Cartoon Idea: Scooby-Doo: Mystic Mayhem

This is an idea I've had for a few years now. I've seen a lot of people do their own takes on Scooby-Doo. And since I've been a massive fan of the franchise since I was a little kid, I figured it was my time to finally give my take on this classic franchise.

As you could tell by the title of this post, the name for this series would be called....

Scooby-Doo: Mystic Mayhem!

In this new iteration of the Scooby-Doo franchise, the Mystery Inc. Gang now work for a secret organization known as "Special Covert Organization of Otherworldly Beings", or S.C.O.OB. for short, founded by the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt.

The organization specializes in dealing with supernatural phenomenons from all over the world.

Yep! In this series, the monsters are gonna be real!

I know that this isn't a new thing, there have been plenty of Scooby-Doo media where the supernatural threats are actually real and not some phony in a mask. But this would be the first series that would actually put much greater emphasis on the supernatural being real.

The series will also have a much greater emphasis on action, since the Mystery Gang will all have powers!

Yep, we're going Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on this bitch!

I mean, it shouldn't that surprising though since this show also has a much greater focus on mystical elements than most of its previous iterations.

Perhaps the most important thing to note for this series is the cast. This series will have a pretty huge main cast since this series will be one big Hanna-Barbera crossover.

Of course we already have the Mystery Inc Gang, plus Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, but the rest of S.C.O.O.B. consists of The Neptunes (from Jabberjaw), The Funky Phantom Crew, The Teen Angels (from Captain Caveman), The Speed Buggs (from Speed Buggy), The Sundance Kids (from Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kids), The Ghost Chasers (from Goober and the Ghost Chasers), The Club Club, Penelope Pitstop (from Wacky Races), and The Quest Family (from Jonny Quest).

Not only would it be interesting to have such a big main cast of characters (especially in regards to lesser-known characters) but it would have a lot of potential for interesting dynamics and relationships.

Essentially every episode will focus on a different group of the teenage mystery solvers, though one thing would remain consistent among each group is that Scooby and Shaggy are a part of it.

Mr. Socrates would be an android, instead of a computer like in the original Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kids. That way, he could travel with the group if needed.

Vincent Van Ghoul will be the team’s mysterious mentor, and he’ll help them out in a pinch.

Dr. Benton C. Quest and Race Bannon will be the gadgeteer geniuses that will usually create different kinds of gadgets that will help the teens on their missions.

Also the duo will be a gay married couple because....well, you can't tell me that none of you guys ever thought these weren't together.

Scrappy-Doo will also be featured in the series as major character. If Dragon Ball Super: Broly has taught us anything, it's that a bad character can be rewritten in something much better through the right lenses. And besides, I think we all owe Scrappy an apology, especially after the existence of the show that shall not be named, which made everyone collectively realize.

"Perhaps we treated him too harshly....."

The series will also feature some various new and unique romantic relationships between the teenage mystery solvers.

The ones that involve the Mystery Inc Gang would include Fred/Tinker, Daphne/Gilly, Velma/April, and Shaggy/Dee Dee.

As for the Mystery Inc Gang themselves, let's talk about them real quick and what they can do.

The gang have been lifelong best friends, who have been solving mysteries together since they were little kids.

Their personalities are also the same as before.

Fred is the strategic, lovable himbo leader.

Daphne is the fashionable, crafty and enthusiastic muscle.

Velma is the cute and friendly, but somewhat snarky brains.

Shaggy is the cowardly and laid-back slacker jack-of-all-trades.

And Scooby is still a good boy and the heart of the team.

As for their powers and abilities....

Fred is the strategic mastermind and possesses the power of magnetism.

Daphne is skilled in marital arts and possesses superhuman physicality. She also has energy projection, which she can use to enhance the power of her attacks.

Velma possesses the ability to pinpoint the weak spot of a foe and potential probability advantages and fights using a laser gun.

Shaggy possesses superhuman speed, agility, reflexes and a special sixth sense that allows him to detect danger.

And Scooby can shape-shift into anything he can think of.

Granted, I haven't thought of the origins of their powers yet, but I wanted the powers to reflect something about each members.

Fred's magnetism to reflect his expertise in traps.

Daphne's superhuman physicality and energy projection to reflect her role as a physical fighter.

Velma's pinpointing to reflect her clue finding expertise.

Shaggy's superhuman speed to reflect his role as a school athlete (plus his God-like nature).

And Scooby's shape-shifting to reflect his usual shtick of using various disguises.

As for their voice actors, they will all be reprised by all their long-standing voice actors.

Frank Welker as Fred, Grey Griffin as Daphne, Kate Micucci as Velma, and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.

The only exception would be Scooby, who would be voiced by previous voice actor Scott Innes, who will be pulling double duty as the returning voice of Scrappy as well.

Before we wrap this up, I do want briefly bring up the world-building.

Mystic Mayhem will essentially be like a spiritual successor to DuckTales (2017), taking elements from various iterations of the Scooby-Doo franchise and bringing them into this universe.

Many of the monsters and supernatural threats will be pulled from previous iterations.

From the cartoons, the comics, the video games, and the movie.

They'll also be plenty of characters pulled from previous iterations as well.

The Hex Girls, Scooby-Dum, Sheriff Stone, Dr. Phineus Phibes, Ben Ravencroft, Crystal and Amber, the parents of the Gang from both A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and Mystery Incorporated, and of course.....

As for the world of this series, it'll be a retro-futuristic version of our own.

Basically imagine the future from Futurama and you've basically got the world of Mystic Mayhem.

This is not only because the cast of Jabberjaw are gonna be featured, and in the original series, they do come from the year 2076, but it's also because this will feature the appearances of various Hanna-Barbera characters, who all exist in this world together.

These would include the likes of The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Augie and Doggie Daddy, Top Cat, Quick Draw McGraw, Wally Gator, Snooper and Blabber, Secret Squirrel, Tom and Jerry, Jeannie and Babu, Space Ghost, Shazzan, Frankenstein Jr., Mightor, The Banana Splits, Birdman, Hong Kong Phooey, and as Lord Farquaad would say....

"And so on and so forth...."

They'll also be appears from various DC characters like Batman (obviously) and The Teen Titans.

Cartoon Network will even get into the mix with appearances from Dexter, Cow and Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, The Eds, Billy and Mandy, Ben Tennyson, and of course....

With its tough-guy cast, suspenseful screenplay, and superb noir-and-white cinematography by John Alton, T-Men is only slightly hindered by efforts to sell itself as a ripped-from-the-headlines True Story. It has a heavy-handed opener featuring the real head of the Treasury Department's investigative division, Elmer Lincoln Irey, selling us on the idea that the IRS is really our friend, and an ongoing voiceover narrative by the actor Reed Hadley that provides exposition we mostly don't need -- it could easily have been integrated into the dialogue. These flaws aside, the film has real grit as it follows T-man Dennis O'Brien (Dennis O'Keefe) and his partner Tony Genaro (Alfred Ryder) in their investigation of a counterfeiting scheme, encountering the usual menacing thugs and hard-bitten dames. Neither of the good guys has it easy, getting beat up and shot as they sleuth through the seamy side of '40s Los Angeles. Alton's camera gives us expressionistic angles and sinister shadows as it explores some well-chosen locations from Chinatown to a Turkish bath to the waterfront.

My Biggest Issue with Trump..

Barrio Sur बड़ा शोक (heart break) [Self-Released; 2018] Rating: 4/5 If there’s no music, they can’t dance All we ever want is love. And then we fade away. Oblivion, the final punctuation of lost time, is like heartbreak: a thing to see but exist in spite of. We kiss and spin our noises in our timeless lamé gymnasiums, keeping track of how we fit in it all. We wave, grateful for a hand of help; we wave, gracious to have kept our self. That’s something like health between histories, a future pinned on a past-looking present. बड़ा शोक (heartbreak) is remembering time’s tick. Hands anchor us in space and hands section seconds of our clocks. Of all the sounds, the clap of hope is yesterday’s analog love prayed out against our future. A singer sings, “My darling dear, love you for all time,” and: why not? बड़ा शोक (heart break) leans in sweetened ether, grounds itself in a ventricle space (like rhythm & blues, like drums and bass.) Loving, like listening, is unsteady work. A drone’s moo, the digital natural, a maybe-computered glow of some hums in wave of the displaced sound: the impeccable percussive, the rain drop’s warble, the floppy disk bird cheep. All sounds are unplaceable: they are not married to their sources, a “not quite abstraction and note quite representation” (Will Neibergall on $uccessor, 2016). Everything splays out against that unwavering drone, that pipe organ’s pine. And then, the drop If they can’t dance, they can’t kiss not of bass or break, but of time and space. There’s still squeals and slips on “Trade&me,” but those otherworldly noises stick to handclaps and Ventured guitar hook loop. After the stretched impressionism of the title-track first cut, “Trade&me” is the first flirt with the 1950s rock & roll semblanceability that बड़ा शोक (heart break) kicks with, a cut-and-paste cutup, an unearthly angel. You could lose yourself in the loving, in the time you live your life in. “Lee Bannon keeps metamorphosing and right now he could be miles away from what’s on this album” (Hydroyoga on Patterns of Excel, 2015). Movement through time, a song’s start and a mixed tape’s unending, is an vital slice of the rap(/b)id evolution of Lee Bannon, of Fred Warmsley III, of Dedekind Cut, of Barrio Sur. There’s time for all those moving multiple selves, for the folding in of future-sounds into the sounds of our past. बड़ा शोक (heart break) mixes sounds of the past (human voice, analog instrument, “rock & roll music”) with future-forward philosophies (plunderphonics, jungle, “electronic music”) with abandon and glee, the back to and the future. बड़ा शोक (heart break) isn’t a plunderphonics, isn’t jungle, but its hands are right up against those cousin terms, the selves its maker once lived in. “If Jungle celebrated anything, it was the lure of the dark. Jungle liberated the suppressed libido in the dystopian impulse, releasing and amplifying the jouissance that comes from anticipating the annihilation of all current certainties” (Mark Fisher, Ghosts of My Life: Goldie, Japan, Tricky). बड़ा शोक (heart break) is the unknown crevices. Barrio Sur sounds in the dark black places, the paths home washed clean of smells; Barrio Sur is the sound of homeless dogs inside a broken clock a little content to be wild again. If they can’t kiss, they can’t fall in love “This is an oldie,” says the man from the future. The people from his (partial and partially imagined) past scrunch. He lets seven seconds of sweats leak out of sopping pores. Where does that leave him? Where does then lead him now? “Well, it’s an oldie where I come from.” Despite existing almost impossibly (in)between the things that can’t have to happen and the ones that don’t have to not, we laugh at and with and by our selves. We don’t mind being wayless. Or maybe there’s a future where we don’t mind it as much. Barrio Sur, all ears tuned to the sound of losing way, hears that uncertain future in the release (a losing of loss) in mixtape, that forever unending format. “Sslleeppeerr (catfish spiral),” that last spit track of washing electric and brief blues acoustic slips so amply back into the drone of the title track that all of बड़ा शोक (heart break) keeps itself breathing. Losing way celebrates getting past the limits of (at least) a time-wasting boring and (at most) a fascistic finite. In the bourbon jockey swindle of “Civilization with a built” or the looping fuzzy forevers flirted with on “Serrated ,Gang Affiliated Baby” is the loving and the fading, the heart and the break. Then(/as always) there’s “Move (unfinished),” the drums and bass combo that drives and builds up and forward. But instead of ending in any place like catharsis or resolution (always, बड़ा शोक (heart break) is the irresolute), the song, unfinished, drops off into nothing and reenters in the lost highway saxophone, the “Crepuscular IV.” If there’s a center to a mixtape’s unfound sounds, an answer to why we lose lives, maybe it’s in these folds of noise, these looming synths and sojourned saxophone. This song is very good. This mix is very good. “Again, it’s just the music. Feeling like transposed time is as tangible as a dream you’ve mixed up with an actual memory” (C Monster on American Zen, 2016). And I’m history All we ever want is love. “Racism is here, the past doesn’t go away, and everything carries a heritage, especially rage. This mix is very good” (Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli on BHM/N3D, 2016). This mix bridges moments and softens losses. This mix makes me want to drive real fast but not away from anything. Donald F. McGahn II, now President Trump’s White House counsel, made $2.4 million as a lawyer with a client list loaded with deep-pocketed conservative groups, from Americans for Prosperity, backed by the conservative billionaires Charles G. and David H. Koch, to the Citizens United Foundation.

Mr. Trump’s legislative affairs director, Marc Short, earned $78,000 from Freedom Partners, a Koch-linked group where he once served as president, plus nearly $380,000 for consulting work, listing clients such as the Club for Growth and Susan B. Anthony List, both right-leaning activist groups, as well as the presidential campaign of Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida.

And Mr. Trump’s chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, reported earning more than $1 million in income tied to conservative-oriented work, with at least $500,000 of that from entities linked to the conservative megadonor Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah, including the Breitbart News Network and Cambridge Analytica, a data mining firm partly owned by Mr. Mercer that worked for the Trump campaign.

Those disclosures, contained in 92 personal financial statements of Trump administration staff members released starting Friday night, offer a hint of how an explosion in spending has expanded the lucrative array of private political work in Washington, enriching even the anti-establishment activists and operatives who sided with Mr. Trump.

Much of the new business has come through “super PACs” and political nonprofit groups whose fund-raising has soared since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision in 2010. While such groups were once a modest sideline to campaign and lobbying work, the new campaign spending rules have allowed wealthy donors and their entourages to displace campaign managers and party leaders as the leading political power center.

More such business has come from private foundations and ideologically oriented media companies linked to donors like the Mercers, who have invested in websites, documentaries and other endeavors to battle traditional news organizations. They have also formed political advisory operations to steer their giving and promote their influence.

The figures reveal the extent to which private political work has bolstered the financial fortunes of Trump aides, who have made millions of dollars from Republican and other conservative causes in recent years, according to an analysis of the disclosure forms by The New York Times after they were transformed into a computerized database by the Center for Public Integrity.

“It has been a bonanza for the consulting class,” said Walter Shapiro, a fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University, where he studies political spending and campaign finance. “And in this era of dark money, people have gotten very, very rich.”

To be sure, Democrats take care of their own, as well. When President Barack Obama took office in 2009, his senior adviser, David Axelrod, reported an income of more than $1 million, listing consulting services for Democratic candidates and other political clients. Others, like Robert Gibbs, the press secretary, reported income from working on the Obama campaign.

For the Trump aides, one potential drawback is that they will now take government salaries, which for many will amount to a cut in pay as they refrain from outside work to avoid conflicts. When their time in the administration ends, however, they could find even more riches waiting for them.

The arrangement has been especially lucrative for insiders and key operatives with links to the biggest donors, and those closest to Mr. Trump, despite his campaigning on an anti-establishment message and his disparagement of business as usual in Washington.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment from the aides included in this article.

The list of income sources for those in Mr. Trump’s White House reads like an encyclopedia of conservative wealth and influence. Many of Mr. Trump’s aides have earned money from right-leaning media organizations like Breitbart and Fox News, or from a firm set up by Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, to manage his speaking and television appearances. Several aides received payments from organizations backed by major conservative benefactors such as the Kochs or the Mercers. Others were paid for work on Republican campaigns, including Mr. Trump’s or that of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a onetime rival.

Few Trump advisers are as plugged into the old and new worlds of political money as Kellyanne Conway, counselor to Mr. Trump. As a Republican strategist and pollster who ran a consulting firm, Ms. Conway earned more than $800,000 from her firm and reported 75 sources of income.

Among the clients that paid her at least $5,000 were the Tea Party Patriots, a group founded in 2009 to oppose Mr. Obama’s health care and spending initiatives, and the Judicial Crisis Network, a nonprofit group that has spent millions of dollars, raised from wealthy donors, in an effort to reshape the federal court system.

She advised nearly a dozen candidates on their campaigns, including Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, now the vice president. Ms. Conway also earned money from speaking appearances at conservative think tanks like the Alabama Policy Institute and the John Locke Foundation.

Like many of her colleagues, Ms. Conway also profited from at least two Mercer endeavors: A super PAC called Keep the Promise, and Cambridge Analytica, which claims to provide “psychographic” profiles that can predict the political leanings of each American adult.

By contrast, Reince Priebus, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff, who toiled in the party machinery as chairman of the Republican National Committee, reported a more conventional, if still lucrative, financial picture. In addition to earning $396,000 from his law firm, Mr. Priebus earned a salary last year of $225,000 from the committee and an additional $175,000 in bonuses. (The party did appear to offer Mr. Priebus at least one perk: rent payments totaling $57,000.)

Stefan C. Passantino, a top White House ethics lawyer, disclosed 70 income sources for his legal services, including groups like the Texas Conservatives Fund, along with more traditional corporate clients like Delta Air Lines and Icahn Capital, the investment firm headed by the billionaire Trump adviser Carl Icahn.

K. T. McFarland, an aide in three Republican White Houses who was appointed deputy national security adviser in the Trump administration, reported $64,000 from Fox News, where she served as a security analyst.

And Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to the president, took in tens of thousands of dollars for his book “Defeating Jihad: The Winnable War,” as well as his work for Fox News and Breitbart.

The Mercers are major investors in Breitbart News, and the filings provide a kind of map to the family’s sprawling influence in Mr. Trump’s White House.

Those who have worked with the father-daughter donor powerhouse have described their charity as having a political bent: to fix what they see as the mistakes of the Obama presidency. That has meant providing funding to institutions, nonprofit organizations and businesses that promote small government, lower taxes and undoing the welfare state.

Breitbart has functioned as a platform to spread a right-wing vision around the world. In addition to Cambridge Analytica, the Mercers have also spent millions on the Media Research Center, a conservative group that says its sole mission is “to expose and neutralize the propaganda arm of the left.”

According to records, the Mercers’ foundation also donated at least $2 million to the Government Accountability Institute, an organization founded by Mr. Bannon and the writer and political consultant Peter Schweizer.

With his own links to Breitbart and the Government Accountability Institute, as well as other ventures, Mr. Bannon has especially close ties to the Mercers. He reported a financial stake worth $1 million to $5 million in Cambridge Analytica, a stake he is now seeking to sell.

Citizens United, a conservative group that was the plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case of the same name, and is run by the political operative David Bossie, received $3.5 million from the Mercer Family Foundation between 2012 and 2014, according to the most recent public records. Mr. Bannon, Ms. Conway and Mr. McGahn all disclosed receiving pay from the group or its affiliates — in the case of Mr. Bannon, totaling $100,000.

The disclosures also, for the first time, provide some visibility into how much Mr. Trump has been paying some of his most loyal employees, who have now moved with him to the White House.

Jason Greenblatt, a lawyer at the family company who now serves as the White House special representative for international negotiations, was paid $1 million by the Trump Organization, the filing says. Keith Schiller, who now oversees Oval Office operations, reported income totaling $294,000 for his security work for the Trump Organization, the campaign and a separate security firm, which worked for the campaign, too.

Fred Wertheimer, the founder of Democracy 21, a nonprofit group that advocates changes in campaign finance laws, said the large payouts were yet another reason that Congress needed to revamp laws to require greater disclosure of political fund-raising and spending.

“This is an industry, a Washington industry, that is embedded into the political system, and the consultant class is making a fortune regardless of what views or candidates they represent,” Mr. Wertheimer said. “And it is a major factor in the cost of campaigns, and it is a group of people who are probably the biggest opponents of campaign finance reform in the system.”
