this isn't a cancel or a call-out post or anything, i just like talking about weird people on the internet

forrestfire101 (duck song guy) is a great animator and makes funny content but he's also kind of a casually racist weirdo. and by weirdo i don't mean gen alpha "bad person" speak. i mean it's incredibly strange behavior to upload a spiderverse animation right after the movie comes out and then vaguepost in the comments about how the literal child who animated a segment of the movie is less talented than him for using CGI instead of real lego

(normally i would assume he's just speaking generally but this was literally right after the news articles about that kid came out)

the racism is also weird because, on one hand, he will make a video about "black green lantern" where the joke is that he uses AAVE and plays basketball, and then literally not three or for videos later be posting BLM donation links in the description of his videos. i understand people can support BLM and still be racist it's just i imagine that venn diagram being extremely small

but yeah. again not really a call-out or anything. i don't have any strong feelings about him one way or another, but these facts put together are extremely funny and i just like lookin at funky dudes online

The song I chose was The Duck Song by forrestfire101 on YouTube.

The types of figurative language are onomatopoeia, personification, and hyperbole. Respectfully, they are the “waddle waddle” sound that’s repeated to mimic the duck waddling, the personification of a duck being a real person, and the exaggerated “I’ll glue you to a tree and leave you all day there stuck” when the man didn’t have glue.

The literal meaning of this song is to show a funny video of a duck harassing a lemonade stand worker. Metaphorically, however, the silly drawings and fun song might be hiding the upsetting reality that some people (like the duck) enjoy seeing others suffer/enjoy messing with others (like the man running the stand).

Stop motion Reflective Journal 16th - 22nd Jan

This is the week when we first started stop motion. As someone who is very interested in stop motion I found this very interesting. We had Tine Kluth who has worked on many stop motion films in to teach us how to do stop motion. The result can be seen below. I found it very fun and engaging. We were tasked to do a walk cycle with a partner, to have them meet up and preform an action, my figure was walking from right to left and while the idea changed numerous times whilst making it, it was a lot of fun to do. it was a shock to use magnets at first, my old home set up required a lot of blue tac and hope to keep the figures up straight. However I feel magnets are a much better way to do things. If I could have done this exercise differently I would have perhaps planned a little bit before starting as me and my partner Emily were unsure what action to do in the middle and essentially we were thinking as we went along. 

After that lesson I decided to do some resarch of my own, look up some independant stop motion to get ideas and to break down how they achieved in certain aspects. I found a film with was a Lego stop motion which I can say is the smoothest animation I have seen in a long while. Forrestfire101′s use of camera angels as well as having extreme close ups on the characters face works very well, to the point where it is near movie quality. There were other film examples however this one stuck out the most to me. Sometimes visuals can be striking, and sometimes what we don’t expect to see makes us remember movies. that’s why since seeing his film, having Lego bleeding and pouring out guts is repulsive but it’s something I’ve never seen before and as a result it’s all I thought about over the last couple of days.
