RESOLUTION?
Tumblr media
˚₊ ⋆ ☠︎︎ ⋆ ₊˚  prompt: ‘I hope you feel what I felt when you shattered my soul’
Tumblr media
Pt.1 — BETRAYAL.
— Sanzu, Mikey, Hanma, Ran, Izana, Kisaki, and Shion.
Tumblr media
The footsteps lazily heading towards you caused your throat to constrict. The need to cry came back full force as you knew exactly who was behind you. You wish he hadn't followed you out here as his presence no longer brings you any sort of comfort. The love you had for him evaporated the moment you realized this lifestyle meant more to him than you ever would.
Left in love's place was a deep hurt; words couldn't describe the pain and emptiness left in your chest. 4 years wasted on a man who you thought was the one. You felt a gentle touch on your shoulder, trying to turn you around, but you shrugged him off, wanting to get out of this building as soon as you could.
His arms were quick to wrap around your waist, pulling you close to him, halting you in place. "Let me see you," he asked. One of his hands reached up and gently cupped your cheek, turning your head to look at him. He eyed the bruises that had been left behind with a look you couldn't put a name on. It could have been guilt, remorse, or maybe even disappointment.
You didn't care.
You pushed him off you, but his hands were quick to grab your wrist. You both began talking over one another, with you begging him to let you go and him asking you to listen to him. After a solid 30 seconds, just as the tears had found their way back and your pleas began to get hysterical, he yelled your name.
"(Y/N)!" he yelled, the volume in his voice causing you to shut up. "Listen, I just—" he paused, his eyes searching your face as he sighed, trying to gather himself. "I don't know how to say I'm sorry, but I am. I'm sorry," he said, bringing your body back to his. He hugged you tight, his hand cupping the back of your head, burying your face in his shoulder.
Your arms hung limp by your side as the both of you stood there.
Him, believing the problem was solved.
You, too scared to move.

Does Hinamizawa Syndrome Actually Exist?
Keiichi, Shion, Satoshi, Satoko, and Rena all develop extreme paranoia and resort to violence in various timelines
This is just what happens when a young person under extreme stress feels powerless and desperate and goes without food or sleep or healthy social interactions for a long time. All of them have internal justifications for their actions that make sense to them and feel like there's no other choice. Hinamizawa Syndrome functions as a metaphor for all the broader forces that put them in this situation and bear partial responsibility for their actions but precisely because it's a metaphor it's not actually required to explain anything
Satoshi struggles violently when they stop sedating him
Yeah because you kidnapped him and strapped him to a table in a scary looking medical facility. Anyone would be terrified and fight to get away under those circumstances!
Patients have similar delusions (paranoia, footsteps following you, maggots in your throat)
This should actually be expected regardless of Hinamizawa Syndrome since paranoid delusions are very culturally mediated and Hinamizawa has legends about all of these. It's not any more meaningful than American schizophrenics commonly believing that the CIA is spying on them
Hifumi Takano saw many men from Hinamizawa go insane during the war and tear out their own throats
Did he check at what rate non-Hinamizawan soldiers lost their minds and killed themselves after the stress of committing war crimes? Isn't this just selection bias at work? The unique manner of death is interesting but not conclusive beyond their local culture having an approved method of suicide
Irie vivisected the culprit of the dam murder and saw evidence Takano attributed to the disease. Later Irie drilled a hole in Rika's head and Takano vivisected her mother as supposed 'Queen Carriers' and they again saw what they believed to be evidence of Hinamizawa Syndrome
However they never did any controls to check that what they saw wasn't true of all humans or unique to their few victims. A few vivisections with no controls that no one else can attempt to replicate for ethical reasons performed by a scientist with the kind of strong motivation to find evidence that leads to confirmation bias doesn't constitute proof
Irie developed a drug that controls Hinamizawa Syndrome symptoms and a vaccine for the disease. Takano developed a drug that induces symptoms
Anti-psychotics and anti-anxiety drugs both already exist as does drug-induced psychosis. It's totally plausible that they just invented new drugs in these standard categories. Irie supposedly developed a vaccine but Takano was inoculated and still developed symptoms under extreme stress so it's not clear that it's effective
At one point Irie and Takano make the dubious claim that Rika's health controls the health of the whole village and when she's sick everyone gets sick at higher rates
I'm pretty sure this has to be confirmation bias or reverse causation. The whole queen carrier theory is nonsensical anyway and it's canon that the part about her death driving the whole village insane is wrong. It's true that Rika's family has been passed down through firstborn daughters for eight generations straight but that only takes us back a couple hundred years and Hanyuu lived 1000 years ago. What does Takano think happened in generations where the firstborn child didn't have kids or where the main family died out and it went to a cousin or what have you. Rika could easily disprove the whole thing if she just went digging around in the Furude archives and drew a nice family tree
It's somewhat implausible for so many kids in the same area to be at risk of psychosis
This type of mental health issue is very genetic and Hinamizawa is the kind of isolated village where everyone is distantly related. It's more than possible

Until The Very End -Shion x Reader (Hell's Paradise)
Summary: Prepared to head to a dangerous place with criminals, you find yourself not only fighting them but another powerful being living in the forest. Your Master being not that far away from you, always willing to protect you no matter what.
Tumblr media
(So I finally decided to give Hell's Paradise a chance since I saw an image of Shion and Tenza and decided to continue watching the anime. Stayed up until 4am and in all honesty I would've loved episodes 8 trio to be the main characters. I find them more interesting than the actual ones. So, here I decided to write a one shot of Shion, just things are a bit out of order at the end but it's how I decided to write it. Prepare the tissues!)
I stared down at my sword, blood slowly dripping onto the light green colored grass. The person laying on a puddle of blood wasn't one of my team, but a criminal, he was once wanted for killing women in specifically in front of young children, delivering their heads to the male of the house and enjoyed watching them suffer for their loves ones.
It was clear as day that I wasn't fond of who I was teamed up with. He sensed this too, so he tried to kill me when he believed I was distracted once we had traveled across the angry waves of the ocean separating us from our next destination.
The man thought he could kill me, but he was too weak, he was scared when he saw me swinging my sword. Scared because for the first time no one was capable of killing him, he used to suffer watching innocent people die, and he found one innocent who thought would do the same.
"Gross, my sword is dirty again." I cleaned the blade with my sleeves and quickly hid my sword back.
I smelled the air and could smell iron, the smell of blood nearby. I continued to walk further until I saw the body of one of my comrades. I knelt down on the ground and said a small prayer.
Though I wouldn't get along with a few, most of them were good men. I frown looking at the ground and felt a pang on my chest, Eizen. He was the second person who found me back in the day when I needed help, the first one being Shion.
I still remember the day when I met them both. My life wasn't easy from an early age, I worked harder than most men, slept very little and ate when I could find any leftovers.
Life is truly a living hell, full of anger, sadness and lots of death, but at the same time it's beautiful…
"Hope you find peace in the afterlife." I muttered and got back up on my feet.
Quickly I left the spot hoping to not come across another demon and find any of my teammates back again.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
From an early age I felt like I was born to suffer, to not have a full filing and happy life. I don't remember much of my childhood despite going through a lot, but what I do remember is at the age of 12 I was sold by my family.
They are a family with plenty of children, but onto had boys, six boys and a girl when I was born. "A woman has to provide for their family, bear children and do what society tells them to do." That's all I ever heard from my parents.
Despite being still very young, I decided to take another path. I started following in my father's footsteps and my brother's, trying to fit in and train like them, I used to stare in awe when I saw them fighting to become soldiers.
I felt like I could be like them, brave, being recognized for their strength and traveling to get the job done.
The day I turned 12, the exact same day I was sold to a house. My parents said they had no use of me if I wouldn't be of help to them, so they did what was easiest to them.
If they didn't have money, then why did they have so many children?
I was terrified that day, held back my tears as I was dragged to what would be my home, no my work place. I was sold to become a prostitute, entertain men at a young age.
The house was full of beautiful but broken women, wanting to escape their reality just like me.
The people in charge of the pleasure house were anything but kind, but at least they knew I wasn't ready. They said I was still to young to be of service, so I stayed in that home for two more years.
When I reached 14 I was told that my age was appropriate, I was ready to become a woman. Many men had entered the place, some flirting with the woman and others simply enjoying their meals or drinks.
"This one is your newest girl." The madam of the house introduced me with a fake name for my protection.
"Isn't she a bit too young?" I heard a man ask
"A-Ah yes! But it's a woman's job to serve.", The madam replied. "Tonight will be a special night for her."
I panicked hearing those words, when that happened I accidentally spilled tea onto her lap and earned a strong hit from her.
"Stupid girl! You're no help to us at all!" She let her anger towards me known.
I excused myself and quickly left the room as I held my cheeks and felt my eyes stinging. I wanted to run away, leave this place for once, I didn't care if I were to die the next day, I'd rather be dead than live a life others want to control.
"Are you alright?"
I glanced back and took a good look at the man who spoke back inside. He was a bit taller than me, with scars over his eyes and across. Is he blind?
"I see you're upset. It's okay to be."
I guess he was trying to joke at the first sentence, but I could feel calmness coming from him. A pure air coming from him.
"You're planning on running away aren't you? I think you should, I can see that they treat you badly. A child as yourself shouldn't be in these conditions."
I made no effort to talk, afraid that I might get hurt for talking to a man who si clearly higher in status than me.
"Here take this, it's the least I can do to help." The man had in his hands a kunai. "I hope for us to reunite in the future." The man waved and smiled down at me.
My eyes widened and I simply stated at him amazed, hopeful, he was the first person to help me. That person was Shion.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
That same night I ran, stole enough money for a few days, had my new weapon in hand and left to never return to that miserable life. That night was finally the night I could finally cry after years of holding my emotions in.
I went into hiding and cut my hair off to dress as a boy. It was the only way to get a proper job and to be treated differently.
So, I trained myself simply by watching other men doing their job. I got myself baggy enough clothes that would hide my figure and I worked selling carbon for a while until I was adopted into a family of an elderly couple.
"This young man is simply impressive. He'll grow up to be a fine soldier." My adoptive parents said.
It wasn't long after I told them my secret, both were concerned over me but they accepted me when I swore to protect them and continue to provide for them. They loved me nonetheless, both their kids were killed a long time ago, so they treated me as their own.
My adoptive father had worked in the Yamada clan in his younger days, seeing my potential he was the one who helped me grow stronger and eventually when I was 16, I was accepted into joining a clan.
I continued to hold onto my kunai, hoping to see the man who gifted it to me. I held the item dear to me, I blushed whenever I would remember him. Though he was just a few years older, I hope to see him again.
So, I went to one of the strongest in their field. I continued to dress as a boy and fooled everyone. I continued to train and eventually met who would be my master.
I was now a part of the Yamada clan, accepted to finally become a samurai.
I remained still in a line waiting with the rest of the newest members and I gasped when my eyes fell on the figure of a talk man with silver hair and scars. My heart began to beta faster than usual, after years I finally saw him again. He grew up to be a lot more handsome.
I was just a child when I met him, there's no way he'll recognize my voice of who I am. Men, soldiers like him are focused on their jobs, nothing more.
"(Y/N), step forward." I did as told and stopped closer to him and was now face to face. "From now on Shion will be your Master. You will obey his orders and train your hardest, let's hope and see what they say about you is true."
I nodded my head and bowed. "I look forward to become your partner and train to be as strong as you!"
The man remained silent and when I looked up I could see a faint smile on his lips when he rose up from bowing his head as well.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Weeks went by and training was indeed hell, but I've endured harder treatments. This is nothing to me, I swore I would grow stronger to prove my parents my worth and to impress, Shion. To show him that I grew to become a strong person because of him.
The blush across my face would be apparent everytime Shion would pass by me. The rest of my team would be confused as to why I would become all flustered. Eizen a man with long dark red hair, I remember him as the one who gave me a bit of money when I was working at the pleasure house.
He was the first one to accept me here and he helped me in choosing the proper tools so my sword would be made.
My back was hurting along with my legs from the amounts of hits I would receive from still training. So, I decided to soak in the river by night time when everyone was asleep.
I winced at the pain when I undressed myself and soaked into the water. I scrubbed myself and cleaned my hair, I realized it was growing a bit longer than I would've liked since I would get caught being a girl.
"What are you doing here so late?"
I screamed and quickly rose up from the water and turned to face Shion. I covered myself quickly.
"I can't see anything, remember?" I saw Shion smiling when he crossed his arms over his chest.
Quickly I reached for my robes and placed them on me. "What are you doing here?" I said making my voice lower, still a blushing mess.
Though he didn't see me, I felt like he did.
I noticed Shion still smiling, "Don't worry your secret is safe with me, (Y/N)."
I gasped and felt my lips tremble and tears beginning to run down my face. "Y-You remember?" I held my chest tight.
Shion nodded his head, "Of course. How could I forget? You were in need when we met years ago. You were just a child, suffering and alone. I imagine you out that kunai to good use?"
His voice lowered and I nodded my head. "I still keep it with me, I….thank you.." I was at loss for words.
After so many years he still remembers me.
"I won't tell your secret, but I don't understand why you would do it. You should let your true self known, if not you'll continue hiding who you really are. Prove to everyone that even if you're a girl, you are capable of standing even more."
I raised my hand up to touch my hair, Shion is right.
"I won't treat you any different. From now on I am your Master and you are my student. Our bond will only grow stronger, no matter what happens we have to be there for one another."
Tears continued to fall down my face. I sniffed began to wipe my face in a hurry. "L-Let's head back inside before they notice we are gone."
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
The village was suddenly attacked one day, most people passed away and so did my adoptive parents. I was left with no one but Shion now, he took me in as now onto his student but to live with him.
I was 20 now and still working and going on missions. Shion and I continued to train but everytime he would win or we would match, I wanted to finally win him but failed everytime.
Over time I grew confident of myself and was accepted when I revealed I was really a girl, some accepted and some did not. But, thankfully I wasn't the only girl.
It didn't take long for me to finally have a student of my own, but I would always consider Shion as my master. My student was resting after suffering a broken ankle but he said he would quickly recover.
Not only did I have a student, but Shion had taken another one in. He had once around the same time he started training me, but info he had to end his once students life when he chose the wrong path in life.
Now a young man known as Tenza was his student. He remained sitting next to my student and began cheering for me to defeat Shion
Both of us quickly dodging ones attacks or almost being able to hit each other.
"When are you finally going to defeat me, (Y/N)?" Shion asked almost bored at the amount of times I've told him to fight me.
I huffed and continued to lunge forward with my attacks when Shion easily blocked his sword from my attacks.
I grin and didn't fall back, "Ha! I'll defeat you one day and when that day comes, You're definitely gonna become my husband and marry me. You'll see!" I exclaim.
Earning odd looks from my student and Tenza. "There she goes again with the flirting. Just marry already!" Tenza shouted.
"I don't think Master Shion might feel the same.." my student making me gasp.
Over time I became confident in myself, and my needles flirting. Shion must've taken this as a joke but I was blurting my true feelings for him known when it was mostly just the both of us alone
In a sense I guess it was a way to repay him for everything he's done for me. Everything I said was the truth, I only wanted to die back then by Shion gave me a different view in life. It may de forbidden between us, but I want to marry him if possible in the future.
"Master..quit embarrassing yourself." I heard my student mutter and hide his face.
"I think it's fun seeing them together." Tenza continued to say.
Shion tilted his head and sighed loudly. "Let's see you try then."
I swung my sword back to my sword and blushed when looking back at him. I'll surely defeat him someday..we ended the fight in a watch and went back to meet with our students who continued to tease me.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Tenza was with the criminal known as Nurugai, surely they mustn't have gone so far. I sniffed the air and could smell two nearby. I began to run faster through trees and spotted two familiar figures.
"Tenza!" I exclaim and I saw him turn back and smile at me.
"(Y/N)!"
We raced towards each other and the first thing Tenza did was hug me and blush. The girl besides him pouted, "You hug her and not me?"
The criminal pouted I stopped hugging Tenza and turned to the criminal. They seem tiny to be a guy..and doesn't seem like a threat at all. Seems very nice.
"Ah, don't worry! Tenza is a friend of mine. You'll have him don't worry." I smile and see Tenza blushing.
"Don't say those embarrassing things." He sighs and stepped back.
I look at them both and saw they weren't harmed. "Everything alright?"
"Yeah, still looking for what we came here. It feels like we've been here forever."
The three of us began walking together hoping to find any clues and trying to not come across demons.
We remained together in the meantime that was until we finally came across, "Shion!" I exclaim finally seeing his tall figure appear.
I ran forward and felt the need to hug him, but it would unprofessional. The last time I hugged him, I hugged him so hard he almost passed out. He did always say I almost an immense strength.
"Shion! It's so great to see you again." I said blushing.
"I knew nothing would happen to you, Master." Tenza said as we all surrounded Shion.
Shion nodded at us both, "Seems like you've been on your own, (Y/N). What happened to your prisoner?"
"He decided to attacks me, so I swiftly killed him before he had the chance to harm me." I inform him and showed no sign that I was scared.
"You've grown to become an exceptional woman, (Y/N)."
Shion praised me! I smiled wide and felt my entire face turn red. "I-I just did as you told me to, nothing more!"
I closed my mouth and we all turned around and remained silent when we felt the air getting heavy, something isn't right. "What's going on?" We remained silent and suddenly a woman appeared before us with bright orange and yellow hair.
One of the denizens.
The woman quickly turned into a man and started to attack Tenza. Tenza began to slice the demons arms, head and eyes out. The four of us beginning to run away when we began to leave the demon behind.
Tenza, Nurugai and I were quickly running ahead since Shion had thrown his sword at the demon and it pierced it leaving it on the floor with the sword onto the tree.
"We're pretty far away." Shion said when we all reunited.
Both Tenza and Nurugai were out of breath. Once Tenza regained his breathing he eagerly turned to the young boy, "Nurugai, now that this guy's here, we'll be okay."
Ouch. I stared silently glaring at him, "Geez thanks, Tenza."
Tenza shivered and began to chuckle awkwardly. "Don't take it as an offense! It's just.. he's more experienced than you."
"A-Anyways, Nurugai! I owe Shion my life, and he taught me how to use a sword.
Tenza received a light smack on the head by Shion's sword. "You were relying too much on your speed, and your movements were sloppy." Shion began to scold Tense for his actions.
"I could hear how lukewarm your lungs were, too. Each strike should be executed carefully." Shion continued to scold and hit his student.
"Nonetheless, I'm glad you're both alive. Last time I saw you both was on the ship."
Tenza rubbed the back of his head still looking at Shion. "Wait a minute, Master. What have you been doing by yourself?"
"After finishing my duties, I tried finding a way back home, but found no current. There's only so much a blind man can do."
Shion said and I watched him begin to take his sword out until he aimed it boy next to Tenzen. "It's your turn to explain. Why are you protecting a criminal? You were told to execute criminals immediately. That's what I did. She tried to seduce me. So I executed her."
I flushed furious and grabbed Shion's arm and began to try and move him back and forth but he wouldn't let go of the sword.
"How dare you let a woman sit on you like that! Was she beautiful?!" I was now rocking him back and forth with Tenza trying to get me to stop but was now protected Nurugai.
Shion didn't seem to mind me continue to try and push him away since he didn't even move. "Care to give me an explanation, Tenza? Depending on your answer I'll execute the order."
Tenza was deep in thought until he began to say and remember when Shion took him in, how he said Tense had the probability to make this a better world and how kid Shion actually is and wouldn't do it.
To that Shion smiled and pulled his sword back. "Yay! We knew you were a good man!" Tenza and I exclaimed with Nurugai looking at us weirdly.
"I knew you had it in you, Master! You were the one to save us from our previous lives after all!" I praise reaching out and grabbing his arm and holding onto him tight.
Shion didn't seem to mind the action so he said nothing.
"If protecting her would threaten the Yamada clan or you…"
Our mouths fell open when Shion said "Her." I glanced back at what I thought was a boy and back at Shion.
"What's wrong?"
"Her? I'm impressed you figured it out." Tenza said, making me smack his back.
"You knew she was a girl and didn't tell me?!"
"I-I thought it was kinda obvious!"
I look back at the now girl and was surprised by my stupidity..how can I be so blind and not realize it?
"Of course I did. I've got a good eye for evaluating people." Shion said smiling to himself. "I'm honestly surprised (Y/N) didn't know about it sooner, considering she was crossdressing back then."
Tenza tilted his head and sigh, "You sure go love making jokes like that, being able to see."
Nurugai in her spot was now embarrassed between both men. "Nice to meet you, Master." She said looking up at Shion.
Shion lowers down to her level. "Nice to meet you, Nurugai. But you needn't call me 'Master' I haven't taught you anything."
"You can call him Master if you'd like!" I exclaim at Nurugai as I wrapped my arms around Shion's arm again. "Shion here will become my future husband!" I said making the young woman smile.
Shion sighed but smiled down at me and patted my head. "Whatever gives you the motivation I guess."
Tenza stood between us and smiled as well. "Okay then! Let's not waste any more time. We have to see how we get back and face that things back there-"
"Don't underestimate me." We all looked back and saw the thing that attacked us. Shion grabbed the three of us and pulled us back further until we were at a safe distance from the demon.
"Master Shion!" I knelt down with me and held onto Shion when we saw blood pouring from his neck.
"Huh? I thought I'd taken his head off. Not bad." The demon said almost bored.
I glared at it when it's in it's female form. I took off my scarf I always had with me and tightly but carefully ties it around Shion, making sure he could still breath and to stop the bleeding.
I remained by Shion's side and looked up to see Tenza taking care of the demon, I've heard about them, Zhú Jin. Tenza began to get deeply hurt with blood quickly covering his uniform, I can't let this happen. I placed my hand against Shion's back and I forced a smile and stared lovingly down at him.
Tenza had been bleeding since the demon continued to attack him, Shion's throat was almost cut where it would've killed him. Zhú Jin continued to hit Tenza many times but it kept on rising back and fighting.
I am determined to kill him.
Forgive me Master. I quickly rose up and began to move forward and I pushed Tenza aside and shouted for him to get back to safety.
"You almost killed my friends just for fun. Prepare to die!" I swung my sword forward and groaned when Zhú Jin seemed to enjoy this.
I watched it move quickly and continued to fight with its hands. I felt a strong pain in my chest and I fell almost to my knees and began to couch, blood came out, my hands began to shake when I saw more blood on them. Am I seriously in danger? Will I die? No, I won't. I promised to continue to live and to marry Shion.
At the same time it had sliced me, it also sliced my sword, easily breaking it in half.
I took out the kunai from my uniform and held onto it, He..she..no they are powerful, very strong but I'll make sure to kill it. I won't let Shion, Tenza or even Nurugai die.
Holding onto the kunai tightly I began to dodge the demons attacks and jump back when it almost hit me again.
"(Y/N)!" I heard Shion and Tenza shouting my name. Nurugai not far ahead wanting to help as well, but she would be easily killed if she were to get in the way.
"I'm close to killing! Don't worry I can handle it." I lied feeling my limbs heavy and growing tired of keeping up with the demon. Zhú Jin continued to bleed heavily but kept on regenerating the wounds.
I've never seen something fight this so strong and faster. A human and a demon, the demon will surely come on top and kill the opponent.
Tears began to form in my eyes as I continued to hold onto my kunai and try to continue standing.
"Quit fighting, (Y/N)! You'll only get yourself killed!" Shion shouted for me.
I forced a smile on my face and now felt the tears flowing down my face. "Then I'll die then, if it means that you and Tenza make it out alive then I'll happily give up my life!"
The demon continued to easily dodge my attacks. I kept on fighting with a smile on my face, remembering the many times Shion and I spent time together with my student and Tenza all together.
I cherished spending every time I had with Shion. Wether he saw me as a friend or not. If I were to someday reincarnate, I wouldn't mind going through the same if it means that I would meet with Shion again.
"Take Tenza and Nurugai with you!."
"(Y/N)!!" I felt bad hearing Shion call out to me, no scream my name. I never him so angry before.
"I'm grateful I got to meet you, Shion." I whisper and I looked over to him and smiled with tears running down my cheeks.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
"(Y/N)? What are you doing?" I heard Shion coming to join me outside once we had finished working for the day.
I enjoyed the sun light and stared up at the beautiful cherry blossoms and felt so peaceful being here, like this with him. I felt a nice breeze and saw the beautiful sakura petals falling down from the trees and onto the ground.
"The cherry blossoms are especially beautiful this season. It's a shame they don't last forever.." I said staring up and smiling staring in complete awe at the flowers.
What wouldn't I give to stay like this forever and enjoy my life with Shion by ourselves.
"Wouldn't it be lovely to get married at a time like this?" I joke knowing he mustn't feel the same for me.
I enjoyed the seasons cool breeze and felt a few sakura petals land on my clothes and hair. I hummed surprised when I felt Shion's hand on my hair, picking up a sakura flowers that fell on me. He moved my hair to the side and placed it above my ear.
"When this is all over. I'll make your dream and wishes come true."
I gasped lightly and stared up to look at Shion smiling down at me with a slight blush across his face, I blushed as well and smiled wide looking at him as I placed my hand above his.
"We'll get married then and have lots of children."
Shion continued to smile as he nodded, "I did swear to myself that I would find and be with you until the very end."
Shion and I held hands until I felt him leaning down and pressing his lips against mine.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
I stared at the demon surprised and I felt a sharp sensation inside me, y eyes slowly wandered down to my chest shocked looked at the demon, the being expressionless. The kunai I had saved so dearly, was stabbed right through my heart.
"Shion…I.."
I coughed up blood and began to feel weaker and dizzy. I began to stumble a bit but could feel someone trying to say my name, I looked to the side and smiled at Shion.
Though already defeated I wanted him to know that I would depart this world happy and not scared or sad.
I heard footsteps running away and could see Tenza and Nurugai being taken away from the scene. I finally fell down to my knees and couldn't sense a thing, strange I've received many cuts and had a blade through tm heart but I can't feel a thing.
The being known as Zhú Jin held onto my hair tightly when I fell down to my knees and kept looking down at me, displaying no emotions whatsoever.
I could see his lips moving but couldn't understand what he said. He let go of me making me fall onto my own puddle of blood on the grass. I fell to the side and could feel my body getting cold and numb.
I was now alone. I fell onto my back and stared up at the bright blue sky and it's many beautiful flowers. I know Shion will be alright without me, he's a strong man, despite many years of being lonely and feeling worthless.
Shion was the first man, this person to ever show me kindness and love. The only man who I ever fell in love it. Someday.. we'll meet each other again and no matter happens I'll continue to fight for and with him.
My eyes adjusted to the clear sky and I felt my breathing beginning to slow down, and slowly I wrapped my hands around my necklace, the cold ring resting against my chest.
Don't give up one hope, Shion. I'll continue to protect you just as you did with me. I smiled to myself and slowly felt like I was being embraced by my adoptive parents, their warmth around tm shoulders.
I will continue to love you Shion…until we meet again.

"Have you ever heard of the occultism club? It's located in the old school building, close to the third floor staircase. The club has no active participants and the room remains abandoned, but somehow it's always well organized and clean, even though it's always locked. Some say they hear footsteps and voices inside sometimes, but when they go to check there is no one inside, and the candles are all lit. If you're brave enough to enter, be careful: you may never be seen again..."
Shion is a Hannya, a snake-demon woman made from unstable human emotions. She feeds of negative feelings, and settled in Kamome because it's the perfect place to find her food. She lives among humans, luring them into the occultism room, where she imprisons and torments them for the rest of their lives.
Shion is a kind of antagonist, despite helping the main trio at times due to her own interests. She has no friends, but she likes to talk to Hanako as she lives close to the bathroom on the third floor, and is also sometimes seen walking with Tsukasa through the corridors. When Amane was alive, Shion was a kind of an older sister, even though her interests were just feeding on Amane's negative feelings.
As selfish and unstable as she is, Shion is calm and kind most of the time, especially in her human form, but she transforms completely as soon as she lets herself be dominated by bad feelings. She doesn't consider herself evil, just someone following her nature in order to survive.

Shion with 12 for the kiss prompts please!! Have a great day <3
Shion Kaida
12. Sneaking away to a hidden corner to share a secretive kiss.
Shion had you wrapped around his finger.
Of course he took an interest in the new pretty prison guard, with bright eyes and a pretty smile that got them scolded occasionally. They looked like they were in a daycare rather than a prison, but Shion had no doubt there was more than meets the eye. His eyes followed you as you made your rounds, knowing his ‘special treatment’ due to Paradox Live made it so you’d rarely, if ever, interact with him. But he was never one to be deterred by factors like being a star-crossed lover.
You had been warned to steer clear of specific prisoners, namely Shion, who had already seduced other prison guards before into giving special privileges. You had promised to be on high alert if you had to interact with him, and you were, as he made oddly polite conversation. There was something about him that had you hooked and a little giddy when he went out of his way to chat with you, and the guard who was personally overseeing him seemed relieved when you stated Shion hadn’t hit on or otherwise done something unseemly to you.
Admittedly, you were not supposed to consider the prisoners a friend; they were a job, this is a job. You tried to keep the boundary firmly drawn in the sand, arms crossed as you regarded Shion with minor curiosity but nothing more. The chats may become a daily thing, and perhaps Yuto had even confided in you some of the troubles he had with certain members of GokuLuck over a few drinks, but with every step you felt yourself growing closer and closer to pushing the boundary back just a bit more. Just to get some answers, just to understand Shion a little better, there was no harm in vulnerability as long as you remembered your position, right?
Shion had questions he wanted answered himself.
Why, when you found yourself in a room alone with him, the other guards off on their own routes, no one around to help you — why did you still smile at him? Why did you compliment his voice, the passion he showed when he sang in front of the others? What purpose did you have for watching him closely enough that you knew there was nothing for you to fear when it came to being alone with him?
Why would you treat someone like him with such a gentle touch?
The way your fingers grazed his cheek, looking at his lips with a hunger he was familiar with; he might have turned tail then, at the sign you might be like everyone else, if he didn’t see the hint of something more behind your eyes. You kept moving away as he leaned in, but he was slow, and he had no grip on you. You were free to leave this conversation at any time, to go to your bosses to accuse Shion of assaulting you, and they’d believe you in a heartbeat (even at the cost of your own reputation). Yet it’s like you were teasing him, beckoning him to keep chasing, to see how far he’d go to steal a simple kiss.
Shion had thought, at first, that he was the one in control. But as your lips brushed against his, his hand finding your neck to pull you closer, your hand resting on his chest as you kept an ear out for approaching footsteps, he had to wonder if he was wrong.
Maybe it was he who was, unintentionally, wrapped around your finger instead.

Bound 2
Tumblr media
Mikey, Haitani Ran, Haitani Rindou, Shion Madarame x gn!reader
They fall for you
Tumblr media
Bound to fall in love <3
Sano Manjiro
Tumblr media
I know I got a bad reputation
Walking 'round, always mad reputation
He was a well known delinquent around Japan. Many already knew his last name, because of his older brother Shinichiro, but it was obvious how different they were. Mikey was ruthless, he didn’t care about anything and anyone. His main purpose in life was to create chaos and bring pain. While Shinichiro was a delinquent who cared about everyone. He did what made him happy and he tried to help out other’s as well. That’s why his death brought many to tears, Shinichiro was named as a legend which no one would ever forget.
But for Mikey.. People prayed for Mikey’s downfall and that should’ve been one of the biggest red flags for you. But you didn’t care about any of that. What you cared about was how he treated you. He saw you as an equal and promised to protect you with his whole life. He met you when he was still in Toman. He was buying midnight snacks when you came into the small shop near his house. It wasn’t love at first sight, but he knew you’d be something to him. A friend, an enemy, or a lover - he didn’t know. But he had a feeling. And he was right. You two became close extremely fast.
At nights he’d hold you close and whisper about your future. How he wants to marry you, even though he knows it’s not safe. He even thought about leaving this life behind, but that wasn’t possible. He’d ask you to never leave him. Mikey was broken, after losing so much. And you’d stay with him until the very end. Even if it meant losing your sanity.
Haitani Ran
Tumblr media
Leave a pretty girl sad reputation
He was a playboy. Breaking the hearts of guys and girls without any shame or guilt. He had the looks and the personality and that was enough. People knew how he was, but they still expected to be the one for Ran. But the relationships ended not even a month in. Haitani was capable of having a good relationship, but he just never found the right one. Deciding to just indulge in one night stands. But that was until he met you.
You were so rude and cold towards him. You had no fear, even though you knew the power his name held. You thought he was the most annoying person to exist on this planet and he thought you were the most perfect human being. But of course it was hard for him to convince you that he actually liked you. Ran was cursing out himself for building the reputation he had and Rindou was laughing at his older brother’s problem.
He knew it would take a long while to make you believe him. But he was persistent. He wouldn’t give up. Not until he had you in his arms.
Haitani Rindou
Tumblr media
Start a Fight Club, Brad reputation
I turnt the nightclub out of the basement
Haitani Rindou was known for a lot of things. He was a delinquent, he helped his brother kill someone at the age of twelve, he spent a lot of his teenage years in Juvie, he was known as a celebrity in Roppongi and around school he was also known for being rude and cold towards other students, pushing them around with his brother. Basically, he wasn’t a good person and everyone and their moms knew this. Following the footsteps of his older brother Ran, he built himself a name which brought fear to many. The only exceptions to this were his brother, his friends and for some reason - you.
You had just moved to Japan, not having any family there, or knowing anyone in that country in general. Your dad got a job in Tokyo and he took this opportunity to make more money. Of course you weren’t too fond of this idea, but who were you to crush his dreams. So you sucked it all in and decided to just keep quiet. Surprisingly it wasn’t too bad. Even though you were in the centre of attention (good and bad) you enjoyed making new friends and joining clubs. Mostly everything was going great, until the day you bumped into the famous Haitani Rindou. You had heard stories about him from your new friends, but he wasn’t what you had expected him to be.
He made sure you were okay and was blushing the whole time you two talked. What you didn’t know was how you managed to consume his mind. You were all he could think about. Your smile, your eyes, your cute accent and the funny way you pronounced words. Rindou managed to develop the biggest crush on you just by talking to you for a few minutes.
“Hey, there’s a party at my place.” He clears his throat. “On friday. I’ll be the dj. Come over?”
“For sure.” You smile at him and write down your number on a small piece of paper.
That was a start of a long lasting relationship.
Shion Madarame
Tumblr media
And ay, ayo, we made to Thanksgiving
So ay, maybe we can make it to Christmas
Shion wasn’t the best at showing his emotions. He couldn’t tell you how he felt most of the time. Maybe it was because of pride, or maybe he was never taught to speak out. You didn’t know. But you did know that he loved you. You knew from the high school days, when he bumped into you on accident and then blamed it all on you.
He was a dumbass. He was forgetful, rude, way too stuck up and egoistic. Even after losing a fight, he’d walk with his head high and you didn’t know if that was a good, or a bad thing. All you knew was that you’d be there to patch him up. And even if he didn’t show it - he was grateful. Shion never thought you’d like him back. You were way too good for him. But he never regretted the stupid letter he wrote to you when he was sixteen. He’d always remember how you smiled while reading it and how you knew that it was him.
Now, he walked around the streets of Japan with you in his arms, his head still held high, but for different reasons. Shion knew they were all jealous of him. After all, you were a beauty to behold.

hi! I saw you also liked wtc and it gave me so many ideas!
I wanted to elaborate on my choices so there's higurashi spoilers under the cut
happy holidays!
full disclosure I haven't finished the last few answer arcs, but I have a pretty good gist of what happens
Keiichi-> Junpei
Mion and Shion -> Nona and Ennea
Rika -> Akane
Rena -> Aoi
Satoshi -> Light
Satoko -> Clover
I was hesitant to make Akane younger than Junpei, but it made the most sense to me if I were to keep Aoi and Light teenagers, and I couldn't not make Akane take Rika's role as the timelooper! I think that would make all their relationships different than both Higurashi and Zero Escape
Light would have gone blind a few years ago, and since then would have joined the baseball team with accomodations from other locals (though the baseball bat looks best in Junpei's hands). in this AU, they wouldn't be wealthy and their parents would have died, and Light's overprotectiveness would lead him to killing their aunt
I just thought the idea of Junpei taking in Clover as his little sister and following in Light's footsteps and killing for her would be soo good
Aoi would be Akane's family and live with Akane and Clover at the shrine after their parents died and before Clover/Light's uncle returns, though I made him take Rena’s role-- maybe he'd tinker with scraps at the junkyard? to make his delinquent past possible, I think he would have left town to live in the city and come back after experiencing delusions. Akane would be looping indefinitely until morphogenetic-field-like things start happening (because I haven’t read the last arc I can’t elaborate too much)
Nona and Ennea just clicked as the Sonozaki twins, though it would be kind of sad for Hazuki to be their mom in this context... since they have little canon information on them I aligned them closer to Mion and Shion's personalities. if Ennea were to have a relationship with Light, I think it would have to be onesided but that should still enough for her to fulfill Shion's arc
and I think that's it! thanks for giving me the opportunity to explore the idea, I hope you enjoy ❤️✌️

french kiss (9)
syn -> rindou has a crush on his older brother’s best friend. and literally doesn’t know how to express his feelings. but when ran isn’t available and you come to him for advice, he has an idea.
beware of.. marijuana use, hinted at cheating, rindou gets jealous
Tumblr media
it had been just a few weeks after rindou lost his virginity to you. and he was feeling amazing.
just like he did when he was heading to that one place for his birthday.
rindou felt like he was on top of the fucking world.
he won you over, beat that inupi bitch at the game for your love, and even began passing his classes higher than he was.
rindou walked into the house with shion following behind, the two of them speaking loudly about something.
“shut up. can’t you see me and my lovely boyfriend are watching something?” ran groaned, speaking over the two.
“you have a room with a tv and sound system. give us this tv.” rindou demanded, tossing his bag down by the door.
ran looked at him with a raised eyebrow, before scoffing and muttering something into kakucho’s arm and giving his attention to the movie.
rindou groaned in annoyance, snatching up his bag and heading upstairs with shion following behind him.
“so lucky kakucho’s here.” rindou grumbled, before making his footsteps heavier to show his older brother that he was ‘angry’.
kakucho looked at the male beside him, before chuckling. “your little test done now?” he asked, looking back at the screen.
ran nodded his head with a satisfied chuckle.
“rin rin’s back to normal. but for how long?” ran muttered, looking up at his boyfriend.
“i swear to god if-” “you gotta let him live and learn mr. backseat driver.” kakucho sighed, running his hands through ran’s ponytail.
“these nicknames don’t get nicer.” ran grumbled, leaning into the bigger man’s hand as he chuckled.
but ran was right, as per usual.
rindou was always happy temporarily. when the fuck would this happiness end this time around?
~
rindou and shion were sitting in the room, playing super smash bros.
“i’m having a party tonight. got some fine big booty bitches coming. you ready to lose your virginity yet or what?” shion asked teasingly, turning to look at the younger haitani.
a grin grew on rindou’s face, before he tossed shion’s character off the map.
“actually. i already lost my virginity.” rindou said proudly, leaning back into the soft beanbag.
shion dropped his controller dramatically and looked at rindou with his mouth wide open in shock.
“to who?! and why didn’t i know?!” shion asked, quickly picking up his controller and pausing the game.
‘because you talk too much’ rindou wanted to complain. but he didn’t. something had caught his attention from the corner of his eye.
ran popped his head into the room with kakucho, eyes widened. his hawk ears must’ve heard what rindou had said.
“oh my baby!” ran said dramatically, stumbling over to hold rindou in a bone crushing hug.
rindou groaned, trying to push his elder brother off of him as best as he could.
kakucho chuckled, taking a seat on the floor next to shion and giving him a pound as a greeting.
“who’d you lose it to- sweet jesus! i need to know who this child will marry!” ran cried out, tossing his head back and putting a hand over his forehead.
“you won’t believe this. it was y/n.” rindou boasted, crossing his arms and cocking his brow in a mocking way.
the room got silent, everyone staring at rindou with a questionable look, and then looking at each other with a knowing look.
rindou rolled his eyes, before picking up his phone.
“it’s true. do you need to see proof or something?” rindou said, swiping it open and immediately going into his camera roll.
“i’d rather you not.” shion groaned, leaning back and covering his eyes.
rindou looked around the room again, and seen ran with a sour expression on his face. kakucho looked at him with a sorry look.
he was utterly fucking confused.
“am i missing something here?” rindou asked looking around the room.
the room stayed silent once more, before kakucho took a deep inhale and looked at rindou.
“does she still talk to you?” kakucho asked shortly, raising his eyebrow.
he had this serious expression on his face. one that rindou has never physically seen for himself.
“uhm.. yeah. we just haven’t spoken today.” rindou responded, raising his eyebrow and looking at his phone.
“i don’t know what you’re thinking, but she’s a good person-” “baise cette merde.” ran cut rindou off, before storming out of the room and into his own.
rindou watched him in confusion, before looking at kakucho.
he was doing that disappointed mother thing he always did when ran would curse in french before going to sleep.
“did i say something wrong?” rindou asked, watching kakucho follow his angry brother into his room.
shion said nothing, but went on his phone and blatantly ignored rindou and anything he could possibly say.
he had no choice but to shrug it off and change the topic from losing his virginity to her.
“is she coming to the party tonight at least?” rindou asked shion, looking at the blond.
shion merely nodded, not taking his eyes off his phone.
“good. i’m thinking of asking her out tonight. make it official, you know?” rindou chuckled, leaning back with a smile.
“i think i should go get the house ready for the party. got a lot to do, you know?” shion said, lifting himself out of his seat and grabbing his belongings.
shion couldn’t bare to look his best friend in his oblivious eyes.
~
going to the party, rindou rode with ran and kakucho. ran hadn’t said anything at all except for merely telling the younger haitani to ‘roll up’.
nothing more, nothing less.
and that’s exactly what he did.
“izana said he’s gonna be there. might be late though.” kakucho said, attempting to get the uncomfortable air out.
ran nodded, not taking his eyes off the road. rindou didn’t even budge.
“said he can’t wait to see you two.” kakucho tried again, looking at rindou through the rearview mirror.
“yeah? you told him the secret everyone’s been hiding from me too?” rindou scoffed, crushing the weed.
“rindou. tais-toi.” ran grunted, turning onto another block.
rindou scoffed, but did as his older brother said. he didn’t feel like fighting tonight.
kakucho sighed, leaning back in his seat and decided to play some music to try and distract himself.
it was like he was almost always in the middle of situations like this, and he was.
ran being the angry mother hen and rindou being the obnoxious spoiled brat who didn’t get his way.
ran pulled into shion’s driveway and leaned back, closing his eyes and sighing.
rindou pushed the two blunts up to kakucho, before taking his seatbelt off and getting out of the car.
“not smoking with us?” kakucho asked, rolling his window down and looking at rindou.
rindou shook his head and smiled, putting his hands in his pockets. “think i wanna remember this night clearly.” rindou said, feeling giddy.
“trust me. you’re gonna want to.” ran muttered, rolling up kakucho’s window.
what the hell was he talking about now?
~
the entire night, rindou was mingling and playing music for the party. he had lost all sights of his brother, kakucho, and shion.
from the dj booth though, he had more than enough sights on everyone there.
it was located upstairs by the railing, overseeing everyone that could walk in and out of the house.
all he really needed to find was you, which was such a difficult task for absolutely no reason.
yeah, shion’s parties were always packed to the fullest, but once you make it upstairs near the dj set, you can see and find everyone.
rindou knew that clearly. it was always how he ended up getting his dick sucked.
“hey. can i borrow that mic?” someone next to him said, looking oddly familiar.
rindou nodded, lifting the mic off the small stand it was on and handing it to the male beside him.
where had rindou seen him before?
after a few short minutes, there were taps into the mic and someone clearing their throat into it.
“goodnight everyone. may i have your attention please?” a familiar voice said, making rindou cut the music off.
no fucking way.
why the fuck was that inui seishu fuck here at shion’s party?
“tonight. is a very special night for me and my girlfriend. it’s our two year anniversary.” he spoke proudly, pulling the female into his arms.
rindou quickly turned off the flashing lights and put the spot light on them, watching him look up and give rindou a thumbs up.
the woman next to him was you.
“and i think i’m finally ready to move forward in our relationship.”  inui spoke proudly, letting you go and digging through his pocket.
rindou’s phone buzzed a few times, catching rindou’s attention. he didn’t want to watch this happen to him anyway.
[10:41pm] aniki -_- : look i know you’re still kinda really fuckin mad at me [10:41pm] aniki -_- : but i’m begging you here rin.. Reconstruction of the reset timeline (ch. 277)
Premise: I’m not really convinced about this reset route, but at the same time the chapter was quite moving. However, I’m worried about some characters relationships, mainly Takemichi & Chifuyu, Takemichi & Naoto, Inupi & Koko.
1998: Takemichi and Mikey both time leaped, decide to stay in the past (well, Takemichi can’t go back to the future even if he wants) and so they became childhood friends. Their mission is to create a future where everyone is happy
In this timeline:
Takemichi somehow befriends Kisaki (Takemichi didn’t save Hina? Or he went to meet Kisaki before that event and became his friend? Nevertheless, Kisaki seems to be a good person now)
Mikey still met Draken, their relationship didn’t change
Mikey and Sanzu are still close (it seems that Sanzu wasn’t a founding member because he didn’t like gangs - probably he joined Toman when his memories where rewritten - his relationship with Mikey change a bit because of the scars, but since Sanzu cared a lot for Mikey in the original timeline, he decide to join Toman)
Kazutora didn’t kill Shinichiro and didn’t went to juvie (he probably received more help from his friends and didn’t need to steal the bike to make Mikey happy)
Baji still met Chifuyu (Probably Chifuyu helped Baji with studying or doing homework instead of writing the letter for Kazutora)
Sanzu and Senju don’t have a strained relationship (since Takemichi became their childhood friend too, he probably helped them get along)
Takemichi became a founding member of Toman
So, Toman still exist. Not founding Toman could have been the safest way to create the best future. On the other hand, Takemichi wanted to save everyone* and some thing are not possible without Toman.
*Everyone include: Shinichiro, Baji, Emma, Izana, Kakucho, Mucho and Kisaki. But it’s suspicious that Hina wasn’t mentioned.
Still, if Toman is founded in 2003 like in the original timeline, what did Takemichi and Mikey do between 1998 and 2003? If their plan is to not change history drastically, then okay.
But with the time they have, they could have help Izana before he found Tenjiku (just an example).
Avoid Kisaki plan
Since Kisaki is not a bad guy anymore, 8/3 and Valhalla never happened. However, Kisaki still met Hanma.
I think that Hanma was a member of a rival gang and Kisaki managed to make him join Toman. Kisaki is not crazy anymore, but he is still smart and know how to manipulate people.
10 generation Black Dragons: Taiju, Inupi and Koko
Shiba siblings situation couldn’t be avoided: Taiju began his abusing after their mother died from illness when all the siblings were very young. At the time, Taiju has his own “values”, but he changed after confronting Takemichi.
But the question is, why Taiju still became the leader of the 10th generation?
We know that Izana (8th generation) corrupted the Black Dragons. Shion (9th generation) followed Izana footstep, this lead to the foundation of Toman (because BD attacked Kazutora).
Taiju became the new leader after Inupi invited him. But, in this timeline many noticed that Inupi didn’t have his scar. I have always supposed that no one except for Koko knew that Inupi had a sister. But, maybe Inupi told Takemichi about his family after they were beaten by Mucho (it makes sense).
But the question remain. If Inupi and Koko never shared the trauma of Akane’s death, how did they end up in a gang?
Let’s suppose that Akane didn’t die. This means that Koko never became obsessed with money. Inupi probably still met Shinichiro at the bike shop and came to admire him a lot, making him want to join a gang.
But I can’t explain why Koko followed him (maybe he moved on his childhood crush for Akane and realized that Inupi is more important).
Then, somehow Taiju became involved. The Christmas arc happened in a similar way, but instead of leaving his family, Taiju decide to stay a redeem himself (?).
Tenjiku
So, even if saving Akane from the fire is possible (for example, preventing Inupi and Akane to go back home that day with some excuse - the house still burns, but with nobody inside), avoiding a car incident is quite impossible. This means that Kakucho’s family still died and Kakucho ended in an orphanage where he meets Izana.
The question here is: what lead Izana to create Tenjiku?
“Tenjiku” is the name of the kingdom Izana and Kakucho wanted to create. It wasn’t suppose to be a gang. Also, Tenjiku never existed until the timeline where Kisaki was kicked out from Toman. Also, in the previous timeline, Izana was too depressed for Shinichiro’s death until he met Kisaki.
But in this timeline, Shinichiro didn’t die. But the fact that he hide the truth from Izana didn’t changed. And it didn’t change the fact that Izana was envious of Mikey.
So, Izana still corrupt the 8th generation of Black Dragons and then retired. In the meantime, Toman rise in power after absorbing Black Dragons and this lead Izana to form Tenjiku just to defeat Mikey’s gang (?).
The battle probably happened similar to Kantou Incident (without Kisaki bringing a gun). In the end, Mikey succeed in “saving” Izana and since Shinichiro isn’t dead in this timeline, the two could reconcile.
Eventually, Tenjiku merged into Toman.
Note: I think that the characters are a little more stable in this timeline because the curse doesn’t existed. In my theory, the curse Shinichiro brings because of time leaping had a major impact on Mikey, but affected Izana too awaking the worst side of him. (Reference)
Toman still disbanded in 2006 and 11 years time skip + someone wedding
Well, it’s suspicious that Hina wasn’t mentioned when Takemichi listed all the people he wanted to save. I fear that “someone wedding” will be between Hina and a totally unknown person.
P.S. If this is an happy ending for everyone, where are Takeomi, Benkei and Waka? I’m also suspicious about Takeomi. He was introduced in Bonten, but he wasn’t even present in the last battle.
Also, I’m curious about South. Since Tenjiku merged in Toman, South couldn’t recruit them in his gang. Did he never create a gang or he became the new criminal boss in the future?
What if this happy ending is just a dream? Otherwise, Takemichi really sacrificed a lot for this ending. Not only he died 3 times, he also gave up his relationship with Naoto, Chifuyu, Draken, Inupi, Mitsuya, Hakkai, Senju. They are still friends, but it’s not the same.

reasons to cup a face / always accepting / @gloryseized ( Shion )
Tumblr media
LIFT, sender gently cups the receiver's face and lifts their chin so the receiver is looking up at them.
It takes a heavy intention for Kane to ignore the rustle of the front curtain being drawn aside. He twitches on instinct, head turning just the slightest, before he remembers he's supposed to be Very Upset right now and coils into a tighter, stonier lump on his bed.
"Go 'way," he tells his brother, 'cause only his brother would have the guts to approach Kane as he is right now. Well, that and he's the only one who gets to enter their house without needing to announce himself. Even his footsteps are recognisable — tha-thump, tha-thump — and Kane feels his shoulders involuntarily unclench from where they've hunched up around his neck.
Still, he holds onto the anger that's been simmering in the arch of his brow and under his fingernails since he stamped up their ladder. "M'not...sayin' sor-ry," he preemptively huffs, just in case Shion's here to make him be nice. Kane doesn't wanna be nice. Not to Mido, who doesn't deserve any apologies from him for anything — even hitting him and causing a fight — when he was being a stupid little weed.
He shouldn't have worried, really. Shion may not have been there when it happened, no doubt hearing the story from others, but this is his brother. A hand lands on his shoulder, gentle and sympathetic. It's such a Shion thing that Kane has to deflate at it.
"He...was bein'...mean," he mumbles, glare turning into something sadder as he stares at the wall. Mean doesn't even feel like the right word for it. Mido can get prickly, sure, but there was a bite to all his mocking this time that practically barrelled over the line of annoying and into genuinely hurtful — worse that half of it was aimed at someone who wasn't there to defend himself. Kane has only had six years of experience in handling emotions, much less Big Ones, and loves his brother very much. Pouncing on Mido had seemed like the best thing to do.
Fingers press against his exposed cheek, patting lightly, before they trail down to cup his chin. Shion pulls. Kane lets him. The look that greets him as he turns gets a corner of his lips to start tugging upwards, and the smile is fully complete when he sees what's being held in the other hand.
Forget him, Shion says without saying anything. Kites, freshly made with how big and green the core leaves still are, promise a much better time than being Very Upset. Kane laughs, soft, and follows his brother's hand the rest of the way out of their house.

Hell’s Paradise EP2
aka: cornucopia bloodbath
Are we gonna start off each episode with the topic of beheading? We’re two for two.
So Sagiri actually wanted to become an executioner because she saw how perfectly her father made his cuts.. I don’t necessarily wanna call that cute but hurray for following in her father’s footsteps I guess?
Oh, good to see she’s not completely heartless about the whole process. Well, I imagine beheading others would instill fear, grief and other emotions into anyone and would probably take many attempts, or several years even, to not feel pain anymore while doing so.
Also, those lifeless bodies we saw in the OP/ED surrounding her now have context with them being her doubts, like right now as this red-haired man explains with the truth reflecting in her blade.
I shall never skip this OP by the way and yes I’m gonna comment about it each week. I heard the full version of it the other day and it’s just as lovely.
Ooohh finally getting little looks at some of our cast like Chobei, Yuzuriha, Nurugai and Tamiya. Same with some of the swordsmen with Shion, Fuchi, and Toma somewhere I’m sure.
All the criminals are throwing their rage at the shogun while Gabimaru is just over here complaining that he can’t breathe with that paper mask over his face.
This dude unrolls a certificate to show them the official pardon but it’s hilarious since none of the criminals can actually see it with their eyes covered.
Yuzuriha knows of our hollow man hm? & despite myself not knowing a thing a out her, I think her voice suits her.
SPEAKING OF VOICES, Gabimaru shares a va with Langa (sk8) and I dunno how it completely slipped my mind last week or how I didn’t pick up on it.
Eh so weird, that poor dude with the flowers blooming out of him is actually still alive?
I’m not entirely sure why, but Nurugai reminds me of Dororo? Maybe it’s the character design somehow.
Oh good lord, large tattoo man just got beheaded with no questions asked.
“Act out in the island, and you’ll be beheaded on the spot.” Yeah that checks out.
“Naturally, if your monitor dies, whether by accident or homocide, you’ll be beheaded.” Glad we mentioned that little bit. But if by some crazy chance they all die, then no one can behead the criminals, right?
“If your monitor isn’t with you, you won’t be allowed onto the return boat.” Oh good, I’m glad we’re answering all my questions right as they come up. So y’all can’t just kill them for funsies because I’m sure they were all just thinking that.
Ya know I was thinking that, there’s way too many criminals here right now and not enough asaemon to monitor them, of course they’re gonna fight for a spot. That and a lot of them just look like randomly placed characters.
Ahha, and looks like our bastard Chobei is gonna get a head start on reducing their numbers. And I know he doesn’t share a va with Bakugo, but that’s all I hear with him, just a little. I have heard him in other things but nothing I remember too clearly.
The fact they can all fight rather well with their hands tied is kinda impressive, I won’t lie about that.
Oh? I assume our main cast are those with these red seals. The special ones with great abilities.
Our man Gabimaru is actually quite the legend huh? Yet he hasn’t move an inch since coming here.. he’s so chill. I love it.
Not me somehow getting Nozel and Noelle vibes when this Eizen man tells Sagiri she isn’t suited for this kind of job. Go prove him wrong girl!
Not that I want her end Gabimaru’s life, but I hope our girl manages to get over her doubts..somehow.
Goddamn, slicing three of them one after another like that..
“Not killing people if you don’t have to is the most natural thing in the world.” Gabimaru you’re such a kind soul.
Holy shit man! You cut the dude’s throat with your bare hands how??
And now he’s just bit another guy’s throat apart.. Gabimaru is literally a beast.
Oohh the scene from the trailers! With him standing in the water with the bodies around him!
“Is it possible that what I needed wasn’t the strength not to fear killing but the resolve to take on the burden of that fear and the lives I took?” Ah perhaps, I’m sure Sagiri will find her answer eventually.
Like Gabimaru last ep, I didn’t expect her to actually have emotions like this. It just didn’t seem like something an executioner would show ya know? So I’m happy we got a look inside her mind and past this time.
Ah so aside from our cast there’s seems to be a couple more criminals joining the party that I’m not familiar with.
Same with the other executioners too, but I finally spotted Toma and got a clearer look at Tenza!
“There is no danger.” Well that’s a blatant lie if I ever saw one.

The Christmas Episode
[Chapter 1: "No Place Like Home"]
It's the holiday season and I do love me some holiday tropes! Happy Holidays y'all! (Don't celebrate? It's okay! You have a good, healthy and safe month! Shion loves you <3) General Audiences, Cute Fluff for Everyone Featuring: Leon and OC Catherine @squashfics @mishwanders @likesugarandcyanide @the-resident-vampire
@notrattus The taxi slowed to a stop in front of a two-story beige house with a black roof almost completely covered with snow. The stone walkway had been cleared, and the windows and front door were decorated with a wreath with silver bells and a string of red and green lights.
Leon stepped out of the backseat of the taxi, fully dressed in winter gear. The driver opened the trunk, in which Leon had stored his suitcases and duffel bag. He cast a glance at the house before walking over to the driver's side.
"Thanks, buddy," Leon said. "How much?"
"$13.50," the taxi driver replied.
Leon handed over a twenty-dollar bill and waved. "Keep the change."
"'Ey, thanks man. Happy Holidays."
"Yeah, you too."
The driver nodded and drove off once Leon walked onto the sidewalk. Leon picked up his things and made his way up the walkway to the front door. The streets and driveways had been cleared and plowed, but everything else was covered in fresh white snow. A real "winter wonderland", it was.
Stopping in front of the door, he took a piece of paper out of his pocket, looking at the address written, and then to the mailbox to the right of the door.
The name "STANLEY" was front and center on the mailbox in gold lettering. Leon rang the doorbell underneath it.
*DING-DONG*
Five minutes passed as Leon heard footsteps, followed by the clicks of locks being undone.
The door opened to reveal Catherine, hair tied back in a braid with a green ribbon, wearing a pale green apron and long-sleeved white shirt with black buttons, simple white cotton trousers and brown loafers. Oven mitts were stuffed in the apron's pocket.
Her eyes seemed to light up seeing Leon at her doorstep. "Leon! Hello!"
"Hey there," Leon replied with a smirk. "Told you I wouldn't miss this."
Catherine waved her hands, motioning for him to come inside. "I'm glad. Come in, come in, let's get you out of this cold."
The aroma of something wonderful cooking immediately entered Leon's nose. His gaze wandered around the living room--this was the first time he's visited Catherine's house. The white walls were packed with framed pictures and knickknacks. The largest picture being that an elderly man wearing a suit. A large grey couch was set against the left side of the room, with a TV on a wooden stand directly opposite from it. The floor was wooden, with a large colorful rug taking up most of the space. Behind the TV were the stairs to the second floor.
"Here," Catherine said, taking Leon's hat and coat, hanging them on the rack to the left of the door. "Making fresh coffee, dinner will be ready soon. I can make hot cocoa if you want."
Leon shook his head. "Oh, no, I'm fine. Think I drank six cups of coffee today."
"Have a seat, take a breather." Catherine smiled and darted off into the kitchen to check the stove.
Leon relaxed against the couch, thinking to himself. A small picture inside a plastic frame on the table next to the couch caught his eye. Curiousity getting him, he reached over to pick it up, examining it.
It was slightly faded, but displayed a younger girl, definitely Catherine, wearing overalls and holding balloons standing next to the old man in the other picture, both of them smiling from ear to ear.
Turning it over to see the back, the writing, in blue ink read:
Harold's Happyland! June 27, 1996 Grandpa Marion & Cathy
Catherine called out to Leon from the kitchen. "French Onion Soup's on the menu tonight! Be ready in a few minutes!"
Leon smiled, placing the picture back on the table.
He already felt like he was home.

Inside Job (2021 TV series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Inside Job is an American adult animated science fiction workplace comedy television series created by Shion Takeuchi, which premiered on October 22, 2021, on Netflix. Shion Takeuchi, a former Gravity Falls writer, acts as showrunner and is an executive producer alongside Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and BoJack Horseman director Mike Hollingsworth. The series received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the animation, voice acting and social commentary, though its humor polarized critics. The series was renewed for a second season in June 2022.
Premise Inside Job is a workplace comedy set in a world where many conspiracy theories are real. It is centered on an American shadow government organization Cognito, Inc., which attempts to control the world and keep the conspiracies secret. The series follows a team led by a tech genius and her new partner as they work in the organization alongside reptilian shapeshifters, a human–dolphin hybrid, and a sapient mushroom from hollow Earth.
Cast Lizzy Caplan as Reagan Ridley; a brilliant yet socially awkward robotics engineer who works at Cognito Inc. and believes that society itself can be improved, managing her irresponsible coworkers while seeking out a coveted promotion along the way. Takeuchi described Reagan as a leader who "wants to make the world a better place." It is frequently suggested by her friends, family and co-workers that she has Asperger's, which she in turn denies.
Christian Slater as Randall "Rand" Ridley; Reagan's father, and Tamiko's ex-husband. The paranoid former CEO and co-founder of Cognito Inc who was fired after nearly exposing the Deep State and trying to blow up the sun as his "solution" to cure skin cancer. He lives with his daughter Reagan, drinking copious amounts of alcohol and plotting revenge against his former employers while finding time to engage in flame wars with Richard Dawkins. He is reinstated as Cognito CEO by the Shadow Board at the end of season 1 as he holds the most shares in the company.
Clark Duke as Brett Hand; a yes-man from Washington, D.C. who has a front as a fratboy but is actually a sensitive and caring person who wants his peers to follow in his footsteps and strives to bring out the best in his friends and colleagues. It is implied that he was hired partly because his generic appearance made him undetectable to facial recognition software.
Tisha Campbell as Gigi Thompson; a public relations officer, she is the fast-talking Head of Media Manipulation and Subliminal Messages at Cognito, and who is also the queen of office gossip. She is also a big flirt who goes after Brett and is constantly remarking on her looks.
Andy Daly as J.R. Scheimpough; the current CEO of Cognito, a crafty conversationalist who can talk his way out of potentially compromising predicaments. He is sent to "Shadow Prison X" via tube at the end of season 1 after attempting to embezzle the company pension fund to purchase a volcano island lair.
Chris Diamantopoulos as ROBOTUS, the robotic replacement of the President of the United States. Reagan keeps him locked up in Cognito's basement, bribing him with Friends episodes so that he will help her with various schemes. He evolves into the ultimate AI with the goal of destroying humanity.
John DiMaggio as Glenn Dolphman; a human-dolphin hybrid super soldier who oversees Cognito's weapons and arsenal.
Bobby Lee as Dr. Andre Lee; a free-spirited yet anxious biochemist who experiments with a range of unusual narcotics, and is also addicted to some of the very same drugs he creates.
Brett Gelman as Magic Myc; a psychic mushroom-like organism from a hive mind deep inside Hollow Earth with a dry, sarcastic demeanor and the ability to read peoples' minds. The show's opening sequence implies that his species inadvertently brought about the evolution of humanity when their spores were consumed by ancient apes. Myc also provides pure bio sorbitrate, a chemical the company uses for their memory eraser guns, which they have to literally milk him for.
Recurring
Suzy Nakamura as Tamiko Ridley, Reagan's author mother and Rand's ex-wife.
Alex Hirsch as Grassy Noel Atkinson, the real JFK assassin. Ron Funches as Elliot Mothman, head of the HR Department and a literal Mothman. Josh Robert Thompson as Agent Rafe Masters, a character who is a stand-in for James Bond.

part i: fire
They say the cold draws its power from a dying fire.
It starts slowly, when a Hunter would disappear. It would manifest throughout the village first as an unassuming chill, burrowing itself deep under the skin so as to become unnoticeable to those who could still afford to deny it exists. At night, it takes its roots deeper, the cold stealing slowly over the body until it makes itself known in the shivers that rattle the bones. When the breath starts to form clouds, they say his fate is sealed. The Hunter will not come home. Beyond the village, his embers die out. His family will mourn in the empty coldness of the night, and their neighbors are haunted to sleep with the grief that hangs in the air.
The village lies deathly still when Kai runs out of the cottage. The fire in the lamp provides little respite for the fear that takes root in his stomach. The night is deep and cold, frost-bitingly so, and when his breath starts to form clouds he tells himself the cold is just a legend, spun desperately by the villagers to rationalize losses they weren’t prepared to take. It’s happened too often without warning, and the time that expands between the news and the denial and the grief and the mourning have become too commonplace to be an isolated experience. In a village that thrives on individual self-interest and chronic cynicism, the residents have found themselves in morbid solidarity through the cold and its message: My loss is lived and bred and done. Now it’s your turn.
Soran had not yet come home.
“Kai, please.”
Behind him, Kai hears his younger sister’s labored breathing, laced with the same fear that threatens to suffocate him to death. In her eyes are the telltale signs of panic, and were the other villagers present in their midst, they’d hazard a guess and say it was more like hysteria. They’ll think they weren’t off the mark, that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. In the morning they’d shake off the frost from their bones, rekindle the rumors of Shion’s disappearance, find comfort in knowing that her eldest daughter has followed in her footsteps, and that the youngest would trail along soon after. They’d unite over the stronghold of Kai’s four losses: the madness that fell over his mother and sisters and the death of the Hunter father that had instigated it all. They’d seek refuge in knowing that Kai’s losses would outweigh the individual suffering harbored by most of the residents at that point in time, when the Hunter population in the village was dwindling to near extinction. Here is a pain felt worse than mine. There is hope yet for me.
It mattered to them that they could put a finger on such a story, because being able to say that to die of madness provided them a security that the unexplained death of a Hunter could never offer. There was relief in knowing. It didn’t have to be true. It just had to be convincing enough to continue existing. It was enough to keep their eyes off of the things that they couldn’t understand, like the cold and how much it takes without ever telling why.
“I have to go find her.” The fog that follows his words is undeniable. Kai wants to believe it’s only a legend.
“Kai, please, it’s so dark out there, you’ll never be able to see anything,” Hani pleads. He hears the crack in her voice, sees the shine of tears in her eyes. The lampfire works against him and takes advantage of this sight, her distress vivid and undeniable, and he feels his resolve crumble. He’s aware of the dangers of adrenaline, albeit only hazily with the rush consuming his senses, his provisional strength and bravery owed to the disappearance of his older sister. His innate recklessness should have already led to his own demise in the forest much sooner in his haste to find Soran, but Hani is good at what she does. The only reason he’s tethered still to the darkness of the village is because he listens well to the younger sister when the older one isn’t around. The respect is only natural when she’s always known better than he ever did when it came to consequential decisions.
For a moment he considers it, going home. He considers living with the cold, to start dealing with this new frost that will cling to their bones for the rest of their lives at the loss of a third family member. To Kai, that could be the future. He’s dealt with the cold ever since they lost their father. Nothing would change, except for that: the cold. It draws its power after all from the death of a loved one.
But Kai remembers, refuses this future, and when he speaks, it’s fast. He was racing against time. Right now, the clouds are only a legend. He wants to believe they are. It’s the only hope he has left. “This fire should be enough to get me by. It’s cold, but there’s no wind. Nothing will blow it out. The Hunters follow a footpath, leave markings on the trees to find their way back. You know this, Soran—”
“It doesn’t matter what Soran told us. It won’t help you out there.” At this point, Kai senses a certain desperation in the words. He recalls bolting out the door mere moments earlier, playing deaf to her pleas to stay home, though with considerable difficulty. He knows she’s just trying to keep him safe. Alive. And for this, he can’t blame her for what she says next. “You’re not a Hunter, Kai. You made sure of that when you turned your back on training.”
The silence that follows hangs heavy in the air. His next few breaths are the same.
It stings him, and he feels a nerve twitch, feels his hand clench around the handle of the lamp, feels the fire burn his skin despite the frigid air. Of course, Kai knows what she’s doing, taking him apart. Unravelling his insecurities, his weaknesses. He couldn’t become a Hunter because he was weak. He couldn’t stomach hunting deer and other animals because he couldn’t bear taking away the life of another living thing, even if it was for survival. Soran had to enter into training in his stead as the next breadwinner of the family because he couldn’t become a Hunter. He couldn’t kill because it was so easy. It was so easy for his father to die at the hands of thieves, so easy for his mother to follow him in her sleep in her grief. It was so easy to realize too late that she had wrested the door open that night, had sleepwalked herself too far away, that by the time Kai realized what was happening in his fatigue-induced wake, sprinting to the edge of the forest in what he knew was a futile attempt, it was already too late. The cold had set in, burning the soles of his bare feet. His screams broke the deathly silence of the village that night, his anguish a signal for morbid solidarity. Blood drew from where the crests of his fingernails dug into his palm. Blood drew from his heart. He was weak. His loss is living and breeding and nowhere near done. It’s not your turn. It shouldn’t have to be anybody’s turn.
Kai looks Hani hard in the eyes. New blood from his heart. He takes a shaky breath, strengthens his resolve. Kai knows what she’s doing, and he can’t thank her enough.
But Kai remembers, and when he speaks, it’s fast. It’s been two years, he was only seventeen then, and now he’s at the edge of the forest again. He breathes and remembers the clouds are only a legend. They have to be.
“Hani, no one else will look for her. Nobody here looks for anybody once they’re gone. Our parents are gone and there’s nothing to remember them by.” His voice cracks. He remembers his mother. He remembers he’s weak. He remembers that Soran hasn’t come home because of him. “It won’t be the same for Soran.”
Kai starts to feel his throat constrict, starts feeling the weakness manifest, but he fights it, blinking fast. He doesn’t miss the way Hani’s eyes fall in despair at the finality of his decision. He turns around, wishes he has missed it, his already scant willpower threatening to abandon him.
He takes a few tentative steps forward before Hani speaks again, a venomous edge to her voice. What he hears next chills him more than the cold.
“This is it, isn’t it? You’re finally getting what you’ve always wanted.”
Kai turns around slowly, makes no move to approach his sister again. He knows what she’s doing, and for the first time, he thought Hani was dangerous. She’s crossing a line that Kai himself has a hard time drawing on his own, but she’s risking it because she’s desperate. And to Kai that made her dangerous.
He remains on the defensive, rearing his guard up to buy himself a few seconds’ worth of time to just think. About what, he doesn’t know. He never expected to have this conversation right now at all, never expected Hani to wield such a dangerous weapon against him.
“What do you mean?” he asks weakly.
“You know what I mean.” Kai tries not to wince at the sharpness of her voice, like it pains her to have to do this. “You’ve always wanted to leave this village. Ever since Mom disappeared. Maybe even before that.” Her eyes soften a little. “I’ve always admired you, Kai. You could be clumsy and naïve to a fault, but it’s like you understood the most. Mom was always telling you, ‘be nice to everyone here, help out when you can,’ even when the last thing people deserved here is to be helped out by someone like Mom. We saw it our whole lives growing up here, how people would slander her for being too helpful, being too nice, because being too nice made you too easy a target to be fooled. You know how the people here are like, Kai. It’s almost taboo to be someone for other people.”
Yes, Kai thought, I know all too well. He often violated the taboo himself, feeding the strays, giving extra change, returning a lost basket, all the motions of basic human decency and respect, if not more. All this had no place in their village.
“I could tell you knew, even though she tried so hard to hide it from you, how horrible this place is. You told her we could leave, find a better place outside the village, where we don’t have to live on the brink of starvation almost everyday, where we don’t have to risk our lives hunting to survive, where people could just be human to each other.”
Kai remembers the memory, remembers the way his mother’s eyes widened with a fraction of horror, like she’d seen a vision so unspeakable she showed her son fear in a moment of weakness, before she quickly reeled back into a role model of strength and virtue. He remembers the strain in her voice when she said, “We’re not ready for outside yet, Kai.”
He never brought it up again.
“I can tell you’ve thought about it ever since. Could see it in the way your eyes linger in the trees, could tell where you always went off to when I couldn’t find you in the village.”
So she knew. Of course she knew, Hani has always been the smartest between her siblings. Kai doesn’t have it in him to look up at her. He’s weak after all.
“This is your chance now, isn’t it? Mom disappearing was the first step to breaking out of that cage. It’s like you finally had an excuse to be open about leaving the village. Now that Soran’s gone too, no one can finally hold you back.”
Kai realizes what she really means by saying all this, realizes it’s not just a way to keep him here. She’s been thinking about this for a long time, could see it in the way her eyes are pleading, hoping he would prove her wrong, that no, Hani, it’s not easy to leave you. I would never leave you.
Kai raises his hand, reaches out to Hani, wants to tell her he’s sorry, that thinking about this is not as easy as she puts it. But he stops.
He could smell it before he heard it. It cut through the cold in the air; the impact of the stench was so strong he could feel the world spin slightly beneath his feet.
Then he hears a grunt and a long groan and he thinks it sounds familiar, and he turns around to see Soran sprawled out on the cobblestone ground, a dark pool of blood flowing slowly through the cracks between the stones like rivulets.
For a moment neither of them move. The blood continues to flow. The air remains cold. But a fire is still flickering on the ground in front of them, no matter how small. Then Hani stokes it, realizes the gravity of the situation and it’s like she wasn’t about to break apart mere moments earlier. She crouches down to her sister, assesses her condition, yells at Kai to bring the lampfire nearer. When he does, the sight of Soran’s injuries knocks the wind out of his lungs. He stands glued to the spot, eyes wide with terror, and it’s like he has a better idea of the kind of vision his mother saw that day, when he said they could leave. For a brief moment, Kai believes that leaving seems impossible. It was a legend truer than the cold under his skin.
“Kai, please,” Hani pleads. The panic and fear and sadness and pain from minutes ago had come together to manifest a different kind of horror in the air, one that seemed to buzz loudly in Kai’s ears. “Help me get to Enzy, I can’t treat this on my own.”
Kai takes Soran’s other side, careful not to aggravate her injuries. He turns away from them, the stench of blood so strong against his nostrils, and he tries not to pass out from the sheer intensity of it. Against Kai’s better judgement, he tries to imagine what it was like for Soran to make it back here, feels his heart clench at her beaten, battered form, feels a new wave of tears prick at his eyes. She’s alive, he thinks. The clouds from his breath are just that: clouds. The cold in the air is just that: cold. She’s here, and she’s alive. There is no dying fire here.
But he looks down at his older sister, a dying, bleeding ember, stoked desperately by her siblings and she’s alive but at what cost?
Kai carefully shifts Soran’s weight against him, hobbling with his younger sister towards the village’s only doctor, holding the lampfire aloft. He looks sideways over at Hani, the fire casting deep shadows across her face. He sees the weariness and the exhaustion, the determination, the strength. It was their mother’s strength. And he remembers his mother and feels a blaze in his heart.
The night is deep and cold, frost-bitingly so, but Kai believes no, there is no dying ember for the cold to snuff, not from any of them.
