Guess who got the first chapter of Rival Firefighters 🚒 beta’d today and is working on a summary and tags so they can post it next week? 😃😃😃. I am so so sooooo excited to start posting! (still have that last chapter to finish but it’s almost done and I really don’t wanna wait anymore to start sharing this story).
Today’s snippet isn’t from Rivals though, but from LA Lonely 🏙️, the other wip taking over my brain atm.
Prev snippet here.
Buck arrives at dispatch for lunch with Maddie ten minutes early. It’s his day off and he’s finished all his errands with time to spare so instead of waiting the last ten minutes in the car, he decides to head up to the break room. He may also be secretly hoping that by coming in a bit earlier, there may still be a danish left in the pastry box dispatch gets delivered every morning.
He spies the pastry box and makes a beeline for it, letting out a small cheer of victory when he opens the lid and spies a couple of donuts and a blueberry danish. He grabs the danish and takes a bite, groaning and wiggling his shoulders in a happy little shimmy as the buttery pastry floods his tastebuds.
Turning around to find a seat and wait for Maddie, Buck immediately freezes because sitting down at one of the tables and looking right at him is Eddie. Hot hook up Eddie. Chris’s dad Eddie. Eddie from the coffee shop. That Eddie. His eyes are shining bright with amusement and he’s biting his bottom lip trying to suppress a smile.
If the ground could open up and swallow him whole, that would be great.
Buck chews the remaining bite of danish thoroughly before swallowing, not wanting to have another choking on bread situation. One of those is enough for one lifetime thank you very much.
“Uh, any chance you can pretend you didn’t see that?”
“Nope, not a chance.” Eddie says, an amused grin finally breaking free and okay it’s really unfair how one smile from him has Buck’s heart fluttering.

you know i used to think it was weird how sora and roxas have such different personalities for supposedly being 'the same person' but after playing a few games i sort of realized that they do have similar personalities, because roxas acts how sora does when he's under extreme stress.
compare roxas to sora in, say, kh1. that's where a lot of peoples idea of sora's personality comes from. sora is generally very upbeat and optimistic in that game. not very similar to roxas, right?
but let's switch the game and talk about a game where sora is ABSOLUTELY GOING THROUGH IT. chain of memories.
sora's resting state is melancholy in com. he only ever cheers up in short bursts, usually when he's joking around with friends. just like roxas.
he's quick to anger, and tends to lash out at the organization members. best example of this is when larxene makes him 'remember' namine, and he swings at her repeatedly, even after she's gone. he only stops when jiminy is able to snap him out of it.
you know what scene that resembles?
sora, while a bit more on the angry side and less sad, continues to act like this in kh2 when he's in stressful situations. (he also has a tendancy to insult people which, while it's not very related to the point, is very funny and sora saying 'gonna cry?' to xigbar is great.) i cant comment any further than that about kh2 off the top of my head.
so, roxas acts like sora does when he's stressed, right? but why is roxas always acting like that? to which i say, he isnt!
he only ever acts like that when he's also in fucked up and stressful situations, which happens to be a CONSTANT in his life. but when he's hanging out with axel and xion, a decidedly NOT stressful situation, he's a lot more like sora. he's teasing his friends and insulting his coworkers and joking around and acting like a normal kid. not really important, but unless i misremembered some sora lines which is VERY possible, both roxas and sora respond to friendly insults with "oh thanks!" a lot. just a funny little detail that felt relevant.
the biggest differences between roxas and sora boil down to environment and... i dont know how to put it besides volume? roxas is very quiet and tends to keep most of his thoughts to himself, while sora is very loud and expressive in comparison.
there is one other huge difference i noticed, which is less character based and more story. sora wanted to get off destiny islands and explore with his friends, but roxas just wanted routine. sora wants adventure, and roxas wants things to stay the same, for days where he gets off work and eats ice cream with his friends to last forever, to keep having conversations about nothing and watching the sunset. roxas wants normalcy, sora wants excitement. it's just interesting seeing their contrast.
not sure if this is very well said or anything i just wanted to talk about my boys
If the devs don't give UI some lore.... then I will ...
relationship chart:
pebbles:
UI dislikes him, hell they are basically one minor inconvenience away from hating him. he's slightly older than them, but despite being "such a brat" (UI is projecting onto him. pebbles is NOT a brat <///3), he is a lot more liked by the group than UI.
neither do their views align, UI is an anti-sliverist, and pebbles is a sliverist.
so basically UI is fighting pebbles for the title of the cooler third gen iterator of the group (everyone else in the group is either second gen or first gen)
moon:
UI likes moon, literally the only one who UI isn't mean around. and it's not because UI just wants to be on the good side of a senior, no, UI genuinely does think that moon is rather nice. a part of UI wishes that they were her younger sibling instead of pebbles. moon is sort of the only one who's nice to them… thus they need to repay moon by being nice back. UI tries their best to not accidentally push moon away.
grey wind:
never talked to them, sort of wary, but admire them nonetheless. neither did UI wanna talk to GW, i guess they feel too guilty, as if GW absolutely despises them for how they're unable to really keep much friendships without pushing everyone away after 100 cycles. this guilt clouds UI's eyes, making them wary of GW because they so thoroughly convinced themselves GW hates them.
no significant harassment:
rather neutral about NSH, tried to become friends with NSH but ended up pushing him away like they always do. nevertheless, they hold no good or bad opinions about NSH
suns:
UI doesn't know them, has no clue why they talk like they're a part of the group, and really doesn't like them because of this. UI is sort of distrustful of strangers, they definitely live by an extreme version of "you do not get my respect for free"
They didn't make the hyorogan onscreen, but I was so curious I ended up wanting to try it after reading about it. All the ingredients were probably available to me (they were)! I'll have to put more on it in a reblog because it's a neat one but I took a few more pictures than the photo limit would like. I was not expecting to pretty much make candy after hearing they were rations! Reminiscent of day old cinnamon donuts.
Ok so I cheated a bit with the recipe for the risotto. Izutsumi asked for something normal with no monsters and Senshi obliged, making a little cheesy indulgence and I'm taking that as my opportunity to use the broth and butter that I think a risotto deserves. Don't tell me that Senshi wouldn't have made a broth from the cockatrice bones if he had the chance. I did try to use Japanese rice though. Ended up using shiitake that I had left over so I went all the way to make a more eastern flavored one with sake, ginger, and white pepper for seasoning.
Hello!
Nightmares, dragons, its straight up manila clams today. Threw in more ginger and dried pepper for seasoning why not. A little kick to remind about the dragon part. They were very fresh with a good texture and the butter added a nice richness to it.
Pompey now entered the city, and married Cornelia, a daughter of Metellus Scipio. She was not a virgin, but had lately been left a widow by Publius, the son of Crassus, whose virgin bride she had been before his death in Parthia. The young woman had many charms apart from her youthful beauty. She was well versed in literature, in playing the lyre, and in geometry, and had been accustomed to listen to philosophical discourses with profit. In addition to this, she had a nature which was free from that unpleasant officiousness which such accomplishments are apt to impart to young women; and her father's lineage and reputation were above reproach. Nevertheless, the marriage was displeasing to some on account of the disparity in years; for Cornelia's youth made her a fitter match for a son of Pompey.
Plutarch, Pompey
both Marcus Licinius Crassus jr and Publius Crassus served under Caesar in Gaul!
speaking of which, you know what makes me feel a certain way? further down the family tree, Marcus Licinius Crassus Frugi married Scribonia (descended from Pompey)!
something. in all of that. the Pompey-Caesar divorce. The three headed monster of the late Republic. Crassus' sons serving under Caesar's command. makes my brain feel like it's being shoved into a blender.
losing my whole mind over this fantasy high: extra credit episode from late 2019 where they take a dive out of nowhere into the characters they'd wanna see in a "haunted fairytale" setting
what if neverafter but pinocchio was actually rip van winkle who was actually rumpelstiltskin (and sleeping beauty was mother goose's son)?? i have many thoughts
Tjjjj ok so i dont think ive talked about ut on here yet but ok so
The premise of Dreamling Tangled AU is: in the comics Dream is canonically Night (their mother)'s favorite child. So after he is born, she basically... keeps him. He is still the king of Dreams and all but his realm is inside of hers and he is not allowed to interact with Dreamers or humans or really anyone else, keeping him isolated and dependent on her. He is obsessed with humans and the Waking and desperately wants to go. One day, he meets Hob, an immortal lucid dreamer and friend of Death who somehow inadvertently manages to find the Dreamlord himself. Dream takes a chance and leaves his realm to go to the Waking where he has adventures, meets his siblings, and finally manages to gain autonomy for himself (as well as a boyfriend)
Ohh which snippet to choose...
Dream stutters, "I-I think he likes me."
Night lets out a musical laugh. "Likes you? Dream, oh darling, you've spent too much time here. Look at you, you're delusional."
Dreams brow furrows, mouth opening to retort, but his mother cuts him off before he could.
She pinches the bridge of her nose, sighing.
"He's using you, darling. For your power. Maybe even your body, as well.” She shudders in revulsion. “Humans are revolting, and animalistic like that. The only reason he is keeping you around-" Night steps forward, reaching up to toy with the bright red gem around his neck, "is for this. He's a thief, darling. Goodness knows how long it will take for him to get tired of you and steal it for himself. I am telling you, sweet boy. Humans are more trouble than they are worth."
"You are wrong."
"Stop this foolishness, love. Come back to our realm. Where you will be safe. We can put this idiotic fling behind us, write it off as a whim."
"No."
Dream hears the word ring in the air, and after a moment realizes it had come from himself.
Whichever anon sent me this today, thank you. There's no way you could have known, but a couple of days ago I suddenly and without warning lost a cat that I raised from the day he was born. When I saw this in my inbox I was confused at first, because what...checkmark...huh...but then I realized that it meant somebody had sent me something--out of the blue, just because--at a time that I really could use something good in my life, even something silly and fun. So, really, thank you. And green is my favorite "real" color, so having one of the checkmarks be green is pretty neat.
I've not really been able to draw anything worth anything lately, believe it or not, so here's the last picture I have of my Night Furry. He loved drives and walks, so earlier this summer on a road trip I took him to the top of the continental divide for a little hike.
(Yes, he's wearing a harness. He had an adventurous and independent temperament, so there was always a risk of him running off to explore someplace where he shouldn't go alone. I didn't just make him wear it because I'm a cruel and stifling cat butler.)
very quick phaesporia to celebrate the new crumbs 🖤🤍 if we do not get to see them battle during the masters 8 i will do something to end up on the national news!! :)
Love the attitude I have towards my sideblog's Tumblr community vs the Twitter community.
When I look at RA, I'm always fondly scrolling through the tags and laughing at people's reactions or jokes, meanwhile when I look at Twitter I'm like:
"So help me god you WILL all be polite and well-behaved or else."
