( No. For once, I don't think things are okay. Bright side, it's fiction, so like... not real, but gah.. that just.. uh.. of all the things that didn't like do much for me in Echo, this one.... is a lot different. Feels a lot stronger than watching Flynn and Chase fuck, or Jenna's... uh almost death, or the entirety of Leo's route, especially with that one dude with the asphyxiation kink, FUCK THAT DUDE ESPECIALLY. But uh.. this one hurt to see. I'll most likely continue shortly, just need a drink first. That said, I won't lie, that was insanely well-crafted. )

I finished playing through all of Echo. Here are my abbreviated thoughts on each route, in the order I played them as well

TJ -- The most horrifying route. Kinda silly to say this in retrospect considering what happens in all the other routes, but seeing the slow decline in isolation to all the other shit going on, I was genuinely shook by the end. And I feel like I still am.

Carl -- The most gratifying/wholesome route. Felt weird going into this after TJ's since that formed my impressions of what this was gonna be, but it makes sense in retrospect. Carl's whole portrayal of anxiety and the conclusion he comes to, it's not something I see that often and it was a very pleasant ending.

Flynn -- The route that made me fall in love with Flynn as a character. Holy shit, this lizard rules. He acts like he doesn't care but he cares so so so much. Though Carl will always be best boy, Flynn will be my favorite character in the game. He deserves so much more. I now know to not be afraid of my sleep paralysis demon anymore :)

Leo -- The most cathartic route, and my favorite. I deliberately held off on doing this for a while, kinda fitting into that thematic thing of Chase not addressing his problems. But the choice that you need to make at the end and seeing the shit that happens, the realization that things will never go back to how they were. It is painful and it hurts but I know it is for the best. Absolutely some of the best that Echo has to offer.

Jenna -- A nice sendoff. While I really liked Jenna as a character, I feel her route is kinda low for me on the enjoyment scale since the actual horror aspect never feels fully present, just tension. There are no doubt some absolutely horrifying moments (never before have I been so terrified of a walk cycle), but this route feels like it needs to be experienced last, which kinda makes it weirder to enjoy in isolation. It's the bow that ties everything up nicely, but it's hard to enjoy a bow without it being tied to something else. But overall, still a way to go.

Listen closely, I have something to tell you:

I didn't know Echo had good and bad endings for some characters and just thought they each had 1 ending. I thought Leo's bad ending was just the Leo ending.

L: CIV! You've been making fanart of it for months now and haven't even gotten the rest of the way through Flynn's ending! You've literally only completed 2 endings! You can't just talk like you're not still missing most of the other stories!

Don't listen to her. I totally didn't do TJ's route first and thought I had it all figured out from then on.

L: Well maybe if you took a pause off fanart and actually read more of the stories YOU'D ACTUALLY GET MORE MATERIAL TO MAKE FANART OF!

Honestly though, I need more free time to actually do the other routes and see them. I've been so busy I've just been living off my bad Leo and TJ ending knowledge for the last few months.

Don't even get me started on Arches and Smoke Room either.

Obviously, due to the whole "Doofenshmirtz ruled the world for several years" thing, Second Dimension Norman Osborn never had a chance to try to make an army of giant mutant spiders that ended up being radioactive but otherwise normal spiders (yes, that's why the radioactive spider was a thing in Candace's universe. Keep in mind Norman is a Doof-style evil scientist there), so there's no Spider-man variant there. This does not stop Candace-2 from getting involved in Spidey Stuff because the resistance still has access to the "Other-Otherdimensionator" that Heinz built for Doof-2, and have made a significantly improved version of the handheld version Phineas and Ferb made. She mostly just shrugs off the fact that Candace-1 (and anyone who isn't OWCA-associated) can't initially remember her.

Meanwhile, Doof-2 can't figure out how to make his own Otherdimensionator, or replicate most of Heinz's other Inators, despite "objectively" being the more competent of the two, much to his frustration.

god i can’t stop thinking about flynn in jenna’s route. also in every other route but mostly jenna’s rn.

like, it’s so interesting how you’re introduced to flynn as the token asshole who only seems to exist to cause trouble and break apart the friend group, but playing through the whole game really paints a clear picture of how flynn and jenna are BOTH the glue holding everyone together when shit hits the fan. while jenna’s better at staying patient and acting considerate towards people even when they might not deserve it (due to her habitually bottling up her own frustrations), both her and flynn are very straight-forward. they’re usually the ones to speak up about things no one else wants to, and they keep everyone focused on what actually matters - when it matters most. in their own ways, their loud voices and solid foundations help balance out the others’ tendencies to dance around issues, stay quiet and isolate themselves.

the climax and ending of jenna’s route really highlights this aspect of flynn. even if he’s too proud to admit it, i love how sincerely protective he is of his friends’ safety, notably carl and jenna (and sydney of course). no matter how mad and disappointed he can get with any of them, it always comes from a place of love; he just wants his stupid friends to stop messing up their own lives, and what happened to sydney should never happen again. and he’s the oldest of the group, he’s always been everyone’s big brother in a way.

i could go on about all the DELICIOUS symbolic implications during the standoff with heather at the dam. flynn assuring jenna with “i got your back” as he sets up his rifle and plans out everything carefully.....jenna’s “guardian angel” appearing for the second time this route to protect them again, but is only an observer here because jenna got it under control herself.....the way it stops focusing on heather and jenna to look at flynn suddenly, but flynn being the only one who didn’t seem to notice it the whole time.....there’s just something so special about all that.

and of course there’s the scene with carl at the very end. yeah i teared up what about it
