COD MW 2023 - Missions
Here's every mission from Modern Warfare 3 (2023). I also added Ghost's CTV mission since I noticed that its timestamp is different to the countdown mission even though they take place one after the other.
Screenshots from Gamer's Little Playground's CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 All Cutscenes (2023) YouTube video. Link and timestamps will be below.
AN 1: This is for you @gamergirlbones, I'll be adding MW3 to the MW1 and MW2 timeline and making it a separate post. Hopes this helps you fanfic writers.
AN 2: This and updating the MW1 + MW2 timeline are the only content I'll make of modern warfare 3. Since I did just want this blog to focus on MW1 + MW2, but I'm willing to change that if enough people ask for it. Which you can ask for in my Suggestions / Questions.

Nova Scotia's modern 'gold rush' poses huge risk to climate, expert warns
Nova Scotia is embarking on what many are calling its fourth gold rush -- but instead of panhandling for chunks of gold, mining operations in the province today consist of massive tailings ponds, enormous open pits extracting small traces of gold and a climate toll that one expert says we’re not properly tracking.
Alana Westwood, assistant professor at the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University, says Nova Scotia’s regulations are woefully behind the times and nowhere near able to keep up with the explosion of new mining claims.
Climate Barometer newsletter: Sign up to keep your finger on the climate pulse
“This is happening across Canada, but Nova Scotia is starting to shape up as a bit of a flashpoint for a national conversation,” she told CTV’s Your Morning on Thursday.
And some experts say the little-understood long-term impacts of contamination from gold mining in Nova Scotia coupled with a new gold rush may be creating a problem of an unknown scale.
There have been three gold rushes in Nova Scotia’s history: one in the early 1800s, another in the early 1900s, and the most recent in 1942.
Those early miners would never be able to comprehend the scale of mining operations today, Westwood said.
“(They) were using pickaxes, working underground, (in) quite small mines overall,” she said adding when it comes to modern mines, “We’re looking at what’s now really low quality ore. So about one gram per ton of rock, so that’s like a paper clip of gold for every Volkswagen Beetle of rock that you’re mining out of the ground today.”
In 2013, there were 158 mining exploration licenses active in Nova Scotia, covering just 1.5 per cent of Nova Scotia’s total surface, according to Westwood’s research.
A map of the province in 2013 shows only two mines either completed or in progress: the Touquoy Gold Mine and the Donkin Coking Coal Mine.
Just 10 years later, the same map looks vastly different.
There are more than 2,000 licenses, covering nearly a fifth of the province’s total land mass. In some regions of Nova Scotia, up to 50 per cent of the land mass is covered by mining exploration licenses. There are four completed mines, two of which are gold mines, with two other gold mines in progress. In 2022, the Touquoy gold mine received approval to increase the capacity of its massive tailings pond by raising the height of its wall by 2.5 metres and extending gold production at the mine site until December 2024.
UNDER REGULATED, OVER EXPANDING
One of the big issues with the explosion in gold mining within Nova Scotia is that regulations haven’t kept pace, Westwood says.
While the federal government introduced new environmental assessment regulations in 2019, broadening the scope of impact assessments for new projects to ensure that companies took climate change into account, among other changes, most mining projects in Nova Scotia go through provincial assessments, Westwood said.
“There are new federal impact assessment laws — these are meant to allow us to look at the predicted impacts of a project on human health, on the environment, on communities, and then make a decision on whether or not to proceed with that project,” she explained. “Nova Scotia’s laws are outdated at this point. There is a promise from the government to update them much more fulsomely, but we haven’t seen that materialize yet.”
The province’s environmental regulations were last updated in 1995, and don’t legally require companies to consider climate change or impacts on Indigenous peoples and nearby communities, Westwood said.
Nova Scotia’s Environment Act does specify that when an application for a project is being assessed for approval, the Minister will consider “concerns expressed by the public and aboriginal people about the adverse effects or the environmental effects of the proposed undertaking,” as well as “steps taken by the proponent” to address these concerns, but doesn’t include any reference to climate change.
“Meanwhile … there’s this huge increase in the number of claims being staked, and that is going to lead to more mines being proposed,” Westwood said. “There’s already more mines going through the impact assessment process than have been in years.”
Creating regulations for resource extraction in Canada is a difficult process, as lawmakers seek to balance economic concerns with environmental ones.
Over the last 25 years, all of Canada’s mineral reserves have been declining in production except for gold, according to a 2023 report from the Mining Association of Canada, with gold production worth more than 13 million in 2021, compared to 5.7 million in 2012.
The federal regulations have been under scrutiny since the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) was put in place in 2019. In March, the Supreme Court held a hearing on the constitutionality of the IAA, following an Alberta Court of Appeal decision in May 2022 that found the IAA was a federal overreach. Those who oppose the new regulations view them as an unnecessary limitation on resource development that will slow the economy.
According to Nova Scotia’s department of Environment and Climate Change, after a company has registered a project proposal for environmental assessment, the government will open Crown consultation with the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia and seek public input to aid with the Minister’s decision. Some decisions end in a request for more specific info from the company, or for environmental reports to be completed to address larger missing gaps of information.
But Westwood said the current setup of Nova Scotia’s regulations don’t provide the ability to look properly at cumulative impacts of mining projects.
“Not just looking at one project, but looking at what happens if you have one mine and then you open another mine, and then you add other kinds of development in and around that,” she said.
“We’re already dealing with the legacy of pollution from the much smaller footprint gold mines we did have.”
AN UNKNOWN TOLL
The scale of environmental contamination that occurred in Nova Scotia’s first three gold rushes — and how much is still affecting the environment and communities today — is little understood.
A 2019 review found the topic is woefully under-researched, but that even the scant data we do have indicates that mercury and arsenic from abandoned gold mining sites can still be found in high levels in plants, fungi, fish and mammals.
“We have arsenic and mercury pollution still leaching from 100 (year) old gold mines, into our waterways, into our fish, we have methyl mercury above toxic levels from this pollution,” Westwood said.
“So I’m a little nervous that we’re going to end up with not just more of the same, but a lot more of the same if we don’t have better oversight and better engagement for communities to say, ‘okay, this is the development I want in my community, but there need to be safeguards,’ or, to say no to that development if they don’t want it in their community.”
Between the mid-1800s and 1950, there were more than 350 gold mines operating in Nova Scotia. A 2021 study looking at sediments in an urban lake, Lake Charles, which is located near a historical gold mining operation in Nova Scotia, found arsenic levels were 300 times above levels known to be toxic to living creatures.
One of the arguments responding to climate-based critiques of gold mining is that the precious metal is used extensively in circuitry and electronics, potentially aiding in shifts towards more electricity-based technology.
But that represents a fraction of the business, Westwood said.
“Only a small proportion goes into technology uses — about half is jewelry,” she said. “And then the remaining proportion mostly goes into investment. Corporations, governments, holding gold as a security, as currency. So very little of it is actually going towards these technological uses, or sort of the green transition.”
Pollutants and tailings waste from gold mines leaching into the ground or water isn’t an issue relegated purely to these historical mines.
In 2014, a tailings dam collapsed at the Mount Polley copper and gold mine in British Columbia, releasing more than 20 million cubic metres of mining wastewater.
A report by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation released in early May found that mining produces more pollutants than any other industry in North America, with an Ontario gold mine topping the list for Canada for most pollutants likely to impact human health.
Atlantic Mining NS Inc., an Australian gold mining company that operates the Touquoy gold mine, was fined $250,000 in February 2022 after pleading guilty to violating federal and provincial laws by depositing damaging substances into water near the gold mine. Atlantic Mining NS Inc. is a subsidiary of St Barbara Limited and is known also as Atlantic Gold Corp.
The government’s impact assessment registry, which lists information on potential and current projects within Canada, lists two upcoming Nova Scotia projects from Atlantic Mining NS Inc. as “in progress,” while a third, Cochrane Hill Gold Project, was terminated in August 2022 due to the company failing to provide required information for environmental assessment within the time limit.
All three projects, including a proposed open pit gold mine in Marinette, Nova Scotia called the Beaver Dam Mine Project, and an open pit gold mine 95 kilometres northeast of Halifax called the Fifteen Mile Stream Gold Project, have sparked controversy.
Environmentalists called for the halting of the Cochrane Hill project in 2020 after a video showed wild Atlantic salmon preparing to spawn in a river near the proposed project.
The company has previously stated that the environment is an important consideration in its projects.
“Part of St Barbara's corporate commitments is to safety always, and respecting the environment,” the parent company said in a 2022 email statement to CTV News Atlantic in response to concerns about the Touquoy tailings pond being expanded. “Our company will continue to work with all parties to ensure we are living up to these commitments in the communities where we operate, now and into the future."

An Interview with Mark Ellis
I recently had the pleasure of conducting my first theatre interview with actor Mark Ellis who will be performing in Nortesur Productions David Mamet powerhouse Glengarry Glen Ross opening in December at The Pearl Company in Hamilton, Ontario.
Glengarry Glen Ross is a play by David Mamet that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1984. The play shows parts of two days in the lives of four desperate Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to engage in any number of unethical, illegal acts—from lies and flattery to bribery, threats, intimidation and burglary—to sell undesirable real estate to unwitting prospective buyers.
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
Mark: Mamet wrote Glengarry for an all-male cast, but in our production the role of office manager Williamson is played by Kayla Gambrill.  The play pivots around the power Williamson wields over the four real-estate salesman.  Only she can dole out the ‘hot leads’ that they’re all so desperate to get.  They resent her for that, and because they see her as a ‘company man’ who doesn’t understand what it is to work the streets and sell.  The story is set in 1983 and putting a woman in that role adds a rich layer to the play.  What’s it like for a woman to occupy a position of prominence in that kind of ruthless workspace?  Mamet’s words take on a whole new meaning when the salesmen tell Williamson ‘You don’t belong in this business,’ ‘You’re a secretary.’ ‘You have no idea of your f^%ing job.’  The level of verbal abuse she faces makes us see the play in an entirely new light.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
Mark: This is a play that needs a lot of rehearsal.  There are so many unfinished thoughts, interruptions and overlaps in Mamet’s beautifully naturalistic dialogue.  In a way, it’s like rehearsing a symphony.  Each instrument has to come in precisely on cue or the music falls apart.
Why is this story one that is still being told today? What makes it relevant to today’s audiences?
Mark: Glengarry’s themes are more relevant than ever.  What happens when people act purely out of self-interest?  How far will they go to manipulate and steam-roll over others to get what they want?  That’s a practice that still exists in business today.  And particularly dominates our politics. I’d love to see Mamet update this play, swapping the ‘Misters’ for ‘Senators’
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on your role as an actor in this production?
Mark: Mamet’s lines are famously difficult to memorize, because they are so precise.  It’s been essential for me to decode Shelly Levene’s internal thoughts as I learn the words he actually says.  Mamet once famously said that actors should just “stand and read the lines.”  I don’t agree.  A composer needs a skilled musician to unlock the code of his score.  Bach needs his Yo Yo Ma.  Mamet’s brilliant writing also requires unlocking, and it’s no easy task.
How do you identify with your character and/or how do you disassociate from your character after rehearsal or performances?
Mark: I’m a terrible salesman.  And I don’t think Levene is very good either.  He’s not as articulate as Ricky Roma, not as assured.  He speaks longer than he should. Crimes I’m all guilty of.  Many of us artists live in fear that we’re not as good as we think we are.  That one day we’ll be exposed for for being some kind of fraud.  Shelley faces that day of reckoning and playing that fall is heart-breaking and disturbing.
What will local audiences be thinking about after leaving the production?
Mark: I think our audience will leave slightly out of breath.  The play rockets along.  It’s dark, it’s caustic, it’s funny, it’s heartbreaking.  They don’t give out Pulitzer's lightly and this is one of the best plays there ever was.

Possibility of city buses transporting N.B. students prompts language, safety concerns
The New Brunswick government is mulling the possibility of city buses taking students to and from school.
The idea is prompting calls from New Brunswick’s opposition parties, that such a move would violate constitutionally protected language rights – specifically, the obligation of separate provincial school systems for Anglophone and Francophone students.
“I think talking to the busing authorities in the cities is just a conversation we can have about how to get our children to school,” says Bill Hogan, New Brunswick’s Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Fredericton Transit, Saint John Transit, and Codiac Transpo (in Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview) are part of the discussions.
Hogan says the province’s use of public transit for students might help address a shortage of school bus drivers, and avoid the sudden cancellation of school bus routes.
“We’re looking at the shortage of supply bus drivers, which is a real issue,” says Hogan.
Liberal MLA Isabelle Thériault says the use of city busses for school transportation would threaten student safety and language rights.
“When you put in the same group a few Anglophone students and few Francophone students, almost automatically it will switch to English,” says Liberal MLA Isabelle Thériault. “We need to preserve those spaces.”
A discussion about New Brunswick’s education duality and school buses became a flashpoint issue in 2015. Then-NDP leader Dominic Cardy suggested costs could be saved if Francophone and Anglophone students rode the same bus.
The provincial government under then-Liberal Premier Brian Gallant issued a reference question to New Brunswick’s Court of Appeal for clarification. The Gallant government withdrew the question in 2016, saying individual school districts should be equipped to make individual decisions.
Green Party MLA Kevin Arseneau says school buses are an extension of the school building.
“What I’ve been hearing today and in the last few weeks is a complete misunderstanding of why language rights are there,” says Arseneau.
Hogan says the use of city buses for student transportation is unique from any discussion about language rights.
“I’ve been involved in no discussions, nor do I plan on being involved in any discussions about having bilingual school busses,” says Hogan. “Trying to call upon the cities to help us where we have challenges? That’s an entirely different thing.”
During Question Period on Friday, Premier Blaine Higgs said the idea of municipal transit authorities bussing students to and from school had come about due to wage increase demands from CUPE, averaging an increase of 25 per cent.
CUPE denies the statement made by Higgs in the Legislature.
“Honestly I have no idea what he’s talking about,” says Iris Llyod, CUPE 1253 president. “I’m quite concerned with the premier because CUPE 1253’s contact isn’t set to expire until March 31, 2024. In fact, we haven’t even started creating anything at this point and we haven’t even given notice to bargain.”
Premier Higgs wasn’t made available to answer questions from reporters after Friday’s Question Period.
Hogan says there’s no timeline for when, or if, the changes will take effect.

PM Trudeau says 'erosion of trust' behind SNC-Lavalin scandal
OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that an “erosion of trust” between himself and Jody Wilson-Raybould lies behind the SNC-Lavalin scandal, while acknowledging that he could have acted differently as it continued to unfold.
“I now understand that she saw it differently,” Trudeau said.
WATCH LIVE: PM Justin Trudeau speaks on the SNC-Lavalin scandal
Trudeau is speaking to reporters in the National Press Theatre, offering his take on the affair and how it was handled.
He said that he knows that people wanted to hear from him directly, and that he was prepared to do that now after taking time to review the testimony given on the scandal.
This comes a month to the day after The Globe and Mail first reported that senior members of his government tried to pressure Wilson-Raybould into dropping a criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. At the time Trudeau said the story was untrue, and has since maintained that he and his staff acted properly, and in the interest of thousands of jobs.
Despite his limited but consistent denials, the scandal grew. Wilson-Raybould resigned from cabinet and called on him to allow her to “speak my truth.” She was given that opportunity and took it, a week later before the House Justice Committee. There, she alleged that she faced high-level "veiled threats" and "sustained" political interference from nearly a dozen senior officials for months, to seek a deferred prosecution agreement for SNC-Lavalin, which is facing bribery and corruption charges over business dealings in Libya.
That too, Trudeau rebuffed, saying he disagreed with her characterization of events. Within days he was down his second minister, when Jane Philpott tendered her resignation from cabinet.
The scandal cost Trudeau his top adviser, Gerald Butts, who resigned two weeks after the story broke. Butts appeared before the same committee on Wednesday to offer his side of the story. There he explained the series of events as normal government business, denied being a part of, or aware of any interactions with Wilson-Raybould that could constitute pressure. He said that she never raised with him that she felt any of the conduct on the file was improper.
Butts also cited a breakdown in trust between Trudeau and Wilson-Raybould, which he took responsibility for. He cited her being shuffled out of the justice minister role as the flashpoint for this ongoing affair.
Both Wilson-Raybould and Philpott have vowed to remain in the Liberal caucus as MPs, despite saying they don’t have confidence in the government under Trudeau.
The House Justice Committee has put its study into the SNC-Lavalin affair and the related legal principles on pause until March 19, federal budget day, where potentially behind closed doors the Liberal-dominated committee will decide next steps.
By day’s end Wednesday the opposition parties remained adamant that further probing is needed into the matter. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has requested an RCMP investigation and called for Trudeau to resign on account of him having “lost the moral authority to govern.”
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh wants an independent public inquiry into the matter.
Federal Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion has undertaken his own study of the matter, saying just days into the controversy that he has "reason to believe” federal ethics laws may have been violated. Key actors have had any relevant privileges or cabinet confidences waived in regards to the SNC-Lavalin case to permit them to assist Dion in making his findings, the announcement of which could still be months away.
