First Avenue remnants, Seattle, 2009.
For many years First Avenue was the "seedy side" of Seattle, a collection of burlesque houses (the Showbox), low-priced restaurants, bars, and of course loan sharks on the stretch between Pioneer Square and Pike Street. Most of that once colorful past has now disappeared, and this complex of signs only hints at what once was.
