I really wish that instead of Michael it’d been Polly’s daughter Anna who was alive and got brought into the family business. I mean I get the point of it being Michael — he was the apprentice turned heir appointed threat, the new age to Tommy’s old ways. But how cool would it have been to see a young woman in this new era. An educated girl who becomes the company accountant, who Polly tries to protect from the surly side of the business but she’s her mother’s daughter and just can’t stay away. It would have been interesting to see Tommy navigate the same roadmap, just with a girl cousin instead, and the boatload of other complications that come with that minor detail change. I could see him being more protective, less threatened — but I’d still want to see her hungry for the life, for the power — and Tommy having to fight her the same way he ended up fighting with Michael. Only it’d be way more emotional.
Honestly I just wish there’d been more women. And imagine how angry she’d be when Polly dies. Just the dynamic all around would be so different. She’d have a different relationship with Polly, one where she sticks up for herself against her mother and acts out. And she’d be doted on by her cousins, protected, and she’d fight against all of it just wanting to be treated like one of the guys. She’d make them teach her how to shoot and fight despite Polly and Tommy trying to keep her away. She’d basically be the Ada substitute since she became like half a character throughout most of the show. Don’t get me wrong I love the main women characters who were part of the show, but it just could have been so cool if that one change had been made.

Dear Lee, once more congratulations on your milestone. I love the variety and creativity in your celebration and I can't wait to participate.
📚First of all, I'd like to announce a book return, but I have brush up on some old knowledge because I want to do it justice but the title stands: "Aristos Achaiōn" and I hope you will like it.
☎️ at the reference desk, I'd ask for what subjects you'd think each of the Shelbys would have studied at University
Then I'd also like to register for a library card, but I'll leave it to you if you want to give me one now or when I publish my story
✨🤍
Tysm for the ask, Val! I loved writing these! I hope you enjoy reading them! I look forward to your submission as well! I'll probably issue your library card then since I'm still thinking about your tag.
What the Shelby Siblings Study at Uni
Arthur never cared for school and was never there. When he was present, he only drew pictures of horses. It wasn’t possible for him to go to university as he never sat for his exams. When the time came, he decided to go to trade school instead and opened a successful garage.
Tommy attended one of the best universities money could buy on scholarship. He’d always been good at maths so it made sense that he would go into business or accounting. However, once he was at school, his classes couldn’t hold his attention. He was far too ambitious. He didn’t understand why he should be stuck in a lecture hall when there was money to be made so he left after a year and began a company of his own.
John never gave university much thought until Esme wanted to go. She wanted to become a veterinarian and studied hard to make her dream a reality. One day out of boredom, John picked up one of her textbooks and began reading. “Esme, you’re going to have to put your whole arm up a cow’s….”
“Give me back my bloody book,” she interrupted as he laughed.  However, after his laughter subsided, John began asking her serious questions and night after night they discussed her studies. John entered school the next semester with her and they eventually opened a clinic together on a large farm.
Ada knew she wanted to study political science from the time she met Freddie. Much like John, her partner encouraged her in her studies. “You’re brilliant mind is going to change the world, love,” he would often tell her. She was the darling of all her professors even though she argued with them vigorously in class. After one particularly long session, a professor convinced her to join the debate team and she became a legend at her university, winning every tournament she entered.
Finn is much like Tommy when it comes to school, never going to class. However, he wastes the Shelby family money in doing so and never works to pay them back. He is reluctant to work, claiming nothing suits him. The reality is, he is lazy and wants to spend his days in the gym with Isiah and Bonnie and his nights out in pubs drinking and finding pretty girls. Ada tries to get through to him, but it’s Tommy and Polly who end up threatening to cut off his allowance for good if he doesn’t work full time for the Shelby Co. Limited. He’s really nothing more than a glorified errand boy though.

the royal wedding of small heath
A/N: I was going to post this in one big fic but it’s so long... and I’m not finished quite yet lol enjoy pt 1. PT 2 HERE warnings: soft tommy. for my tommy and his darling wife!au. language, mild sexual themes.  1.9k words
The Garrison was bustling with people. People milled about, this way and that, people Tommy recognized, and people he didn’t. The musicians that Arthur had hired for the event were fantastic, just the exact music Tommy had wanted. None of the new stuff, and all of the stuff Tommy and his brothers held dear to their hearts.
Family members from near and far gathered here today after the rehearsal to celebrate with Tommy and his bride.
He made his way over to the bar, where Harry was rapidly pouring shots for a group of men lined up at the bar Tommy could only assume to be some of your cousins. Not men he knew. “Gentlemen,” he greeted them.
“Mr. Shelby, we appreciate your generosity tonight.” The oldest of them said, leaning over the other two to shake Tommy’s hand.
“It’s my pleasure.” Tommy told him before asking Harry for another bottle of whiskey for the table.
“She looks mighty pretty tonight, Mr. Shelby,” Harry told him, handing him the bottle.
“That she does, Harry. That she does.” Tommy glanced back over his shoulder, hearing your laugh as your sister told some ridiculous story from when you were children to John and Finn.
He turned back towards your table, bottle in his hand. He made his way through the crowd, beginning to itch in his suit. He was far too worn out from all the people that were abso-fucking-lutely everywhere this week. People from your side of the family had started pouring in on Monday from all over England, the United States and fucking France to witness the Shelby wedding. The Royal Wedding of Small Heath is what the Birmingham papers had called it when your engagement announcement ran in the papers. Your mother had bought every paper she could get her hands on and sent the clipping to every family member she could think of.
“It’s pretty rare that someone like us marries someone like Thomas Shelby.” your mother had told you, eyes peering at you over her glasses.
Someone like us.
You’d been raised in London, your parents both modest people. Your father has worked as a banker ever since you could remember. He made a decent living, but with you, your older sister and brother and mother to take care of, there was never really much extra money to go around. You lived well, and had everything you needed, but the wants were never really attended to.
So when you accidentally met Tommy one evening on your way back home in London, your mother insisted it was fate. And a few months later, you deemed that she was right.
Tommy returned to your table, setting the bottle of whiskey down. John snatched it up and poured his and Arthur’s glasses full once more. “Are you doing alright, Sweetheart?” he asked, adjusting in his seat, his arm around you.
“Yes,” you beam up at him. “Are you?” you ask, a hand on his thigh.
“Never better.” he told you, love pouring from his chest.
“If I see a more lovesick man I’ll drag him here so you can have a competition,” John laughed. Esme elbowed him in the ribs. “What? I’ve never seen ‘im like this.” John told his wife.
“Pay him no mind, love.” Esme told you. You giggled, squeezing Tommy’s thigh under the table.
“I generally don’t.” you told her.
“And that, Tommy, is why we love her!” Arthur cackled, raising his glass to his lips and throwing back the whole glass of whiskey.
Your mother apprehensively approached the table. She’d been here for a bloody week and a half and Tommy had barely been able to get his hands on you for fear of her popping up and claiming your whole relationship to be an absolute travesty. “Dearie, your father and I are getting quite tired, would it be alright if we retired for the evening?”
Tommy sighed when you stood up to hug your mother. “Of course, of course. Tommy,” you turned to look at your fiance. “Would one of your brothers escort them to their lodgings?” you asked.
“I’ll do it, love. Happy to.” Arthur told you, standing up. “Anything for you, love.” he threw you a tipsy smile.
“Thank you, Arthur. Mother, remember, we must be at the estate by nine.” you reminded her.
“Yes, of course. We will be there.”
Your mother hugged you goodbye, your father waiting patiently by the door. Arthur lumbered after them, making sure they got there safely. It was only a block away, but stranger things have happened in Small Heath.
After your parents left, other guests started to trickle out of the Garrison, whether to settle in for the night or go get rowdy somewhere else, no one knew. Tommy quietly observed the rest of the people, smoking his cigarette, arm around your shoulders as you talked to your sister.
“Are you ready, sister?” Emile asked.
“For what?” you asked with a confused look on your face.
“To be a wife, of course. And all it entails.” she told you, a suggestive tone in her voice.
“Emile!” you scolded her, eyeing Tommy, who acted as if he wasn’t paying the slightest bit of attention to your conversation. “Not here!”
“Thomas, wait ‘till you see the things our cousins from France bought her.”
“Emile!” you scolded again, cheeks flushing hot. Thankfully John and Finn had gotten up to fetch more beer.
“It’s alright, love, everybody knows you won’t be out in public for at least a week after tomorrow.” Tommy told you, a devious look on his face.
“Thomas!” you scolded, a look of disbelief on your face. “Ganged up on by my sister and fiance. Unbelievable.”
“We’ve been in cahoots this whole time, sister. How do you think he picked the ring the right size?” Emile asked, peering at you over her wine glass.
You look at Tommy, who was smirking. “She’s right, love. Phoned her and asked the second I knew I was going to propose.”
“Which was when?” you asked.
He leaned in closer to you, lips to your ear. “That night after I took you to that restaurant in London–what was it called–”
“Wiltons.” you reminded him.
“Ah, yes, Wiltons. I took you back to my hotel and–”
“Okay, I know what day you’re talking about now.” you tell him, pulling away from his lips. He’s smirking at you. “Cheeky man.” you tell him as he lights a cigarette.
“Only bad thing about him, he smokes like a freight train.” Emile joked.
Tommy smiled, cigarette in his mouth. “You get used to it.” you tell her, thankful Tommy was tolerant of your sister's childish remarks.
You sat in silence, Tommy’s thumbs drawing sweet circles on the back of your hand as your sister went to find your brother. “Do you think everyone will behave tomorrow?” you ask Tommy.
“They will, my love. I will make sure of it.” he tells you, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“Where is Ada?” you ask, suddenly noticing her absence.
“She said they will not be making an appearance until tomorrow.” Tommy said, rolling his eyes.
“Because of Freddie?” you ask.
“Yes, because of Freddie.” he confirms, putting the butt of his cigarette in the ash dish.
“It’s not fair to Karl, keeping him from his family.” you tell Tommy, snuggling closer into his side.
Tommy sighs. “I know, my love.”
Polly comes over towards the table, a smile on her face. “Are you two ready for tomorrow? Dress all picked up?”
“Yes. It’s hanging in the room at the estate.” you tell her.
“Thomas, did you pick up–”
“Our tuxedo’s from Mr. Zhang, yes, Pol. I did.” he says flatly.
“The baker came to me this morning and said he would deliver the cake around noon.” she rattled off all the delivery times of the various things. Flowers by nine, musicians would arrive by four, and the estate would be bathed with white roses and greenery by one in the afternoon. Polly had been an integral part of the wedding planning, going with you to every dress appointment, every catering and cake testing. Tommy waved it all off, telling you, “Whatever you want, Darling, all I care about is the bride at the end of the aisle.”
A little before midnight, the party came to a close. Everyone left, leaving you, Polly and Tommy to discuss various particulars of the impending wedding day. The musicians packed up their things, and Tommy handed them a rather thick wad of money.
“Thank you, Mr. Shelby.” the bassist said.
“Thank you, you all did a wonderful job tonight.” Tommy told them sincerely, showing them to the door and locking it behind them.
“Alright, you two might as well start saying your goodbyes. Can’t see each other until she walks down the aisle, Thomas. It’s bad luck.” Polly told him. “I’ll wait outside, love.” she told you, walking to the car that John was waiting in. You were going to spend your last night as a single woman at Polly’s place, sleeping in Thomas’ old bedroom, that he had only just vacated, telling you his wedding present to you was rather grand.
He stood up and walked over to the old gramophone and began to play one of John’s new records. Some of the slow jazz that was popular then. “Will you dance with me?” he asked, turning to you, eyes straining to make out all your features in the dark.
A few lonely candles were still lit, giving the pub a warm glow. “Yes, Mr. Shelby, I will.” you stand up to meet him in the middle of the pub.
He pulls you into his chest and you rest your head against his heart. “I swear to you,” he whispers lowly. “I will spend all my life loving you, and you alone. You are the single best thing to happen to me, my angel.”
You smile against his chest, feeling his heart beating in his chest. “I love you, Thomas Shelby.” you tell him, melting into him.
“I love you.” he whispers.
Your ring sparkles in the faint rays of light, casting small rainbows on the ceiling. It was far bigger a diamond than you thought practical, but Tommy would not hear of a smaller diamond. You were quite nervous to see the wedding band he had picked but he assured you that you would love it.
“I can’t wait to see you in your tuxedo tomorrow.” you tell him, looking up at him.
He smiled softly at you. “Enjoy every minute of tomorrow, Sweetheart. Anything you want, you can have, okay?”
“Will life always be like this?” you ask.
“Like what?” he asked in return.
“Anything you want, in the blink of an eye. The snap of my fingers.” you say, still in disbelief.
“That is my goal, love.” he tells you, reaching down to kiss your lips.
The kiss is cut short by John bursting through the doors. “Will you let her come on? Polly won’t quit complainin’ about the cold. You have your whole lives to kiss.”
Tommy kissed you again, John throwing his arms in the air and huffing before turning around to walk out the doors again. You hear him faintly yell to Polly, “He won’t let go of her, Pol!”
“I better go.” you chuckle, looking into Tommy’s eyes.
“Sleep well, my blushing bride.” Tommy teases you, pressing one last kiss to your lips.
“Goodnight, Thomas.” you tell him.
He walks you to the car, where John is thoroughly annoyed now. “See you tomorrow!” Tommy says, a mischievous grin on his face.

A/N: English is not my first language, sorry in advance if something makes no sense. Warning: death of a family member, angst. Words: 3.1k

"Y/N? Honey, are you still there?" Lizzie's soft voice echoed through the phone.
"Yes, thanks for calling," you said, fighting back the urge to cry. "Hey, why hasn't he called me?"
Lizzie sighed tiredly. "He's busy with work. Besides, he wanted someone else to tell you in case you didn't take it well."
"How the hell am I supposed to take this?" You asked with anger filling your veins. It wasn't Lizzie's fault and it wasn't fair to take out your frustration on her but you couldn't help it.
"I know," she conceded, "but you know your brother, he's having a hard time. Everyone's having a hard time."
Despite the lump in your throat, you nodded. Of course you understood but that didn't make you feel any better. Your Aunt Polly had just died and you had to find out through your brother's ex-wife.
"Thank you for taking the time to call me, see you tomorrow, well in a few hours," you hung up the phone and threw it hard against the mattress, it bounced several times before falling to the floor. The noise that the device made when it hit the ground resonated like an explosion in the silence of the night.
The tears you had been holding back rolled freely down your cheeks. You fell down on the bed, burying your face in the pillow and letting out a choked sob.
It was too late to go to Birmingham, or too early, depending on how you looked at it. In a few hours you would take the first train so you could attend the funeral. You weren't sure what scared you more, facing the reality that Polly was gone or being in the same room with all your siblings again after seven years apart.
-
Since you couldn't fall asleep in the remaining hours until dawn, you packed some clothes and personal items, not many because you didn't plan to stay in Birmingham for too long, and tidied up your room. Cleaning would keep your mind busy.
The train ride was a fucking nightmare. Despite it being so early, your car was full of people, people with children who couldn't stop screaming and running between the seats. Wasn't anyone capable of teaching their children some manners? The boy right behind you had been kicking the back of your seat for more than twenty minutes, the damn thing.
Taking a deep breath, you rested your head on the window as you watched the landscape and tried not to think. The soft rattle of the train rocked you as if trying to comfort you. However, it was not that simple. Memories of your childhood in Small Heath flooded your mind, some of them good, some others the kind you would have liked to banish from your memory. The kind of ones that made you take the decision to put some distance between you and your family in the first place.
Finn and you, as twins, were the youngest with a considerable age difference compared to the rest of your siblings. Due to family problems, your parents had always been absent from your life, so your Aunt Poll practically raised you as her own. Polly was the closest thing you had ever had to a mother figure.
Your childhood and adolescence weren’t easy. Deep down you felt bad for thinking like that, you knew that your older brothers had had it worse while your father still lived with them, but still. As a teenager nothing seemed fair.
It was all screams and arguments, a house immersed in violence. Aunt Polly began to drink more and more, Arthur only thinking of his drugs or who knows what, which caused more fights. When the shouting started you used to run to your room and close the door, getting  into bed, covering your head with a blanket and listening to music at full volume until your ears hurt.
And then you prayed just as Polly had taught you. You prayed that you would fall asleep and wake up with another family, a normal family where no one screamed or came back in the middle of the night beaten up and  covered in blood.
You wiped away the tears falling down your cheeks with the back of your hand as you noticed a little girl staring at you.
"Why are you crying?" she asked in a squeaky childish voice.
Before you had time to make up any excuse a man who must have been her father spoke out loud, clearly making fun of you.
"She broke up with her boyfriend, right, pretty face?"
The look you gave him could rival Tommy's. No one would hesitate to say that you were a Shelby. Slowly, his smile faded from his  face and he looked away embarrassed, grabbing the girl by the arm to make her return to her seat.
-
When you finally got off the train, your eyes were swollen and your nose was red from crying. You took a couple steps through the station and then stopped. Who were you looking for? You didn't even know if anyone was going to pick you up.
“Y/N!”
Turning around, you looked everywhere trying to find who was calling you. They could be calling someone else but the voice was too familiar to be a mistake. And then you saw him, a few metres from the entrance, greeting you with his arm and a huge smile.
"Hello, Isaiah," you said with a small voice. He wrapped his strong arms around you in a tight hug and you buried your face in his chest, a position similar to the one you two shared the last time you said goodbye.
"How are you?" He asked when you stepped away but he immediately rolled his eyes. "Sorry, that was a stupid question."
"It's okay, I'm fine. What about you?"
He shrugged. "Great, given the circumstances. I have the privilege of picking up and bringing home the princess of Small Heath," he joked, winking playfully.
You hit him on the arm, of course not hurting him. You followed him only to stop next to the car, he took your bag and put it in the trunk. Once inside, Isaiah pulled out and placed his cell phone on your thigh. "You can choose the music."
The ride was quiet, both of you listening to your favourite songs and humming or making up the lyrics from time to time, like when you were teenagers and ran away from home along with Finn.
"Why did you come to pick me up at the train station?"
Isaiah glanced at you out of the corner of his eye, not really taking his eyes off the road and remained silent for a few seconds. "Why, am I not enough for you?" he joked, in an attempt to light up the mood.
"I won’t hit you because you're driving" you murmured, he laughed softly. "My brothers, why have none of them come? I know Ada was busy with the kids, she texted but they haven’t even talked to me.”
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "I don't know. You should talk to them about that. You've been away for many years, they've changed."
You nodded silently. It had started to rain. "Sure. Thanks for coming to pick me up, Isaiah."
He squeezed your leg. "You know I'll always be there for you."
-
The rain was now pouring fiercely as a reflection of your current mood.
Everything in the house screamed Polly, every corner reminded you of your childhood. It would always keep fascinating you how a simple scent could bring you back in time so easily. Blinking rapidly, you tried to clear your cloudy sight. Ada stepped in front of you, hugging you and murmuring comforting words in your ear and you leaned into her. You had missed her so much in the past few years.
As a little girl you felt devotion towards your only sister. You wanted to spend time with her, sometimes you stole her make up and she ended up mad at you because of it. The rest of the time she just pushed you away, not wanting to babysit you. Back then you thought it was unfair but now you understand, Ada was a teenager and she wanted to go out with her friends and her boyfriend, not staying at home with two little kids.
However, as you got older, it was more and more common for your sister to call to include you in her life.
"Will you stay with me and the children? Hey, Y/N. Are you listening to me?"
You looked at her worried face and nodded. “Yeah, thanks Ada. I don’t want to spend more time here than necessary.”
Ada rubbed your arm as she gave you a sympathetic look. “I know, dear. Have you seen the others? Or Polly?”
Your heart jumped against your ribs with fury. “No, not yet.”
“Y/N!” Arthur called out, striding towards your direction. He stopped a step away from you, undecided whether to give you a hug or not. He looked thinner than you remembered. Actually, he looked older. You were the one who stepped forward and hugged his slender body. He reciprocated right away, burying his face in your hair and sobbing.
“It’s okay, Arthur” you whispered against his chest.
Taking a step back, you stared at him once again, mentally thanking that he wasn’t the one picking you up from the train station. He was a total mess.
Somehow, seeing your older brother like that sent a pang of guilt directed to your guts. Arthur used to be energetic, fierce and chaotic, but this man in front of you was nothing like that. He seemed like he needed a warm blanket and a cup of tea, and maybe sleeping for a couple days without worries.
“Arthur, why don’t we go and talk to Lizzie?” suggested Ada, linking her arm with his and pulling him away. He smiled at you with his blue eyes filled with tears and reached to grab your hand but Ada didn’t let him do it. “Let's give Y/N some space, alright?”
You had been holding your breath without realising it. As soon as they left you alone you let out the air, feeling your lungs deflate. Throughout the house you could hear children screaming while playing, unaware of the sadness that filled the air. They were your nephews and nieces. Mostly John’s kids. You wondered if he was a good father now. When you were ten years old he used to make you watch horror movies such as The Exorcist or It, and then he laughed when you cried terrified at night.
The lump in your throat became more noticeable, you needed to get out of there.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw Finn and Isaiah talking quietly to Michael and a blonde girl you didn't know. Avoiding crossing glances with them, you headed to the kitchen looking for the door that led to the backyard. If you did, you would have to stop and talk to them, exactly what you didn't want to do at that moment.
You weren’t expecting to see Polly’s coffin in one of the rooms so you turned your face away when you walked by its door, almost running until you reached the knob of the door that led to the backyard and turned it, opening the door and stepping outside. The chill wind helped to cool down your feverish cheeks.
After closing the door behind you, you leaned against the cold wall, eyes closed, trying to calm yourself down.
I'm sorry I didn't come sooner, you thought, placing a hand over your heart. I'm sorry for not saying goodbye to you, Aunt Polly, for not taking time to tell you how much I loved you. I was angry with all of you. I'm sorry, I promise to think of you and to not forget your name. Polly. Elizabeth Gray.
Letting out a choked sob, you opened your eyes. You didn't know if Polly was able to hear you, wherever she was now, but you sincerely hoped that your message would reach her somehow.
Someone clearing their throat made you jump. To your right, leaning against the wall just like you was Tommy, taking long drags on a cigarette, as if his intention was to suck the life out of it. "Damn Tommy, you scared the hell out of me! What are you doing here?" you yelled at him, brushing your hair out of your face and furiously wiping away your tears.
He shrugged and let out a puff of smoke. “Same as you.”
His voice was deep and hoarse, like if he had been crying. He used to be really close to Polly and now that you thought about it, it made sense. Just like Arthur, his appearance surprised you.
In your memories Tommy was a young man with his freckles and blue eyes, the dark hair slightly curled at the ends when he let it grow and an encouraging smile that he only reserved for you and your siblings. That was the brother who taught you how to ride a bike and how to swim in the canal, how to take care of horses during the summer breaks and the one who used to tell you stories with funny voices whenever you couldn’t sleep at night.
There was almost nothing of that brother in the man in front of you. Tommy was old. It had been around seven years since you moved away to go to university but time had hit him hard. He was in his forties now and his hair was turning grey in some parts, the wrinkles much more noticeable as well as the deep dark circles under his eyes.
He threw the remainder of the cigarette on the floor and looked at you thoroughly, as if he were analysing you from head to toe. A mix of emotions crossed his face but you weren’t sure to be interpreting them correctly, such as a slight panic, a bit of sadness and finally something similar to approval.
“You look good,” he stated, “how is school? Everything alright?”
Your eyes filled with tears once more but this time you didn't hold them back. All the rage that had been growing inside of you since Lizzie called you a few hours earlier came out freely. “I’m not in school anymore Tommy, I’m a PhD student and I’m writing my fucking thesis so don’t talk to me as if I were a stupid child.”
He seemed taken aback by your sudden anger. “It wasn’t my intention to make you feel like that” he apologised before clearing his throat, raising an eyebrow, “but if you haven’t noticed, you’ll always be a kid to me.”
Tommy didn’t let you say anything back, continuing with his speech. He wasn’t looking at you, instead, he stared at some point far away in the distance.
“When you were born I was the first to hold you in my arms. You were so tiny, I could carry your little body with both my hands. Finn started gaining weight so damn fast but you didn’t and we thought you’d never make it” he pursed his lips as you listened in silence, although you had heard him telling you this story many times when you were younger. “Every hour we had to feed you a bottle of formula and it was no bigger than my finger” he pointed his index finger in front of you as a measurement. “It seemed like a toy. But it worked, just look at you now.”
He turned to you and wiped your tears with his callous hands.
"Tommy, why didn't you tell me Polly was so sick?" you asked quietly, grabbing his wrists.
"You knew she was sick."
"Yes, but not enough to..." To die, you wanted to say, but the words got caught at your throat.
Your brother sighed and when he looked at you again, he seemed more tired than ever.
"I didn't want to worry you unnecessarily. You have your life far from here, you yourself wanted it that way. Your priority is your studies, let me finish," he said, pointing a finger at you authoritatively. "What happened to Poll was so sudden, none of us expected this to happen and it has been a hard blow for everyone."
“I didn’t say goodbye to her,” you muttered.
Tommy held you against his body, hugging you tightly. “Me neither.”
You looked up at him, scrutinising his face. The rim of his eyes was red and his bottom lip trembled a little despite his attempt to hide it. He seemed somehow fragile.
“Oh, Tommy,” you whispered, throwing your arms around his neck and letting him bury his face on your shoulder. You felt the wetness of his tears as you caressed the back of his head. “Next time something like this happens, let me know. Call me and I’ll come. I’m not a kid anymore, I’m part of this family too and I can help. You don’t have to go through stuff on your own. Alright?”
As he nodded slightly with his face still pressed against your shoulder you felt the sudden realisation that you had been mistaken most of your life. All you wanted to do was run away from your family in order to be happier, thinking that they wouldn’t need you after living through your whole childhood feeling like a burden, like someone whom they had to take care of.
For years you had hated them because it seemed that they enjoyed being miserable day and night, continuously fighting with each other… you never stopped to think about the reasons behind all those arguments or their actions. But you were older now and life had taught you that we are all humans and we all make mistakes.
Now everything was different. For once you were the strong one, able to stand by their side to support them. This bunch of sad and broken people were your family and they needed you just as much as you needed them.
Sometimes it was better to put some distance in order to see things from a different perspective, to heal, you realised as you held the shadow of the man who used to be like a hero to you during your childhood. At the end of the day you would always come back to the place where you belonged. The only thing you regretted was not figuring it out sooner.

Your husband would have Finn either send messages to you, or simply keep an eye on your wellbeing. Although Finn hadn’t a clue of what was going on, he knew you of all people didn’t deserve this sort of treatment. He made sure to visit as often as he could for company.
Tumblr media
You were grateful the moment Tommy finally let you out that dreadful basement. You hadn’t forgotten the promise made a few weeks ago to Finn. To bake him a signature custard from your bakery. He’d been dying to try. Soon, it became common for the youngest Shelby brother to stop by. He would either have a letter or message from Tommy. Most of them were if your husband would be late or earlier from work.
You’d pack Finn some lunch before bidding him a farewell. Most of the time it was just you and Charlie in one big, empty house. To say that he was a sweet child was an understatement. He had the power to make anyone’s cold heart melt. How could such a charming child come from a man like Tommy? You hadn’t a clue.
Tumblr media
Of course, you could never replace Grace. You weren’t the one who’d given birth to him. But Charlie was your son in every single way that mattered. There were even a few special moments you’d spend with the other Shelby family members. You especially enjoyed bonding with the women of the family. Teatime with Polly was a particular favorite. She would give you as much advice as a wise woman could. In a way, Polly became your second mother.
As you were setting up the table Polly had been bouncing Charlie on her lap. Finn decided to stop by since today’s work was slower than usual, he choose to stay a little longer. Polly examines her finished tea. Her expression was confused at first, then startled. She shows Finn the cup, and it was as if he'd read something from it.
Tumblr media
Polly let’s out a small sigh, “Tell me my dear…” she places her cup on the table, “…has my nephew been treating you well?”
Tumblr media
You’re at a loss for words. How could you answer to her? Should you tell her the truth? How would she react? You made up your mind to keep it short and subtle, “Tommy provides me with everything a wife may need. What more could a woman want?” you try your best to force a smile, hoping that it was a good enough answer.
But Polly was suspicious that something wrong within your marriage. She could sense it, “You didn’t answer my question dear, has he been treating you well?” her voice is sterner this time. You tense. Your heart races, “I-I’m not sure what you mean...” you play off. Polly could tell that over the period of time since you've been married, the flicker of light in your eyes had disappeared. Blown out by the cold blues that followed into your nightmares.
At that point, Finn has had it. As soon as Polly leaves, he tells you of his plan, “Tommy’s going to some event next week, and he won’t be back until the morning,”
“Finn…” you warn. It wouldn’t be a good idea breaking your husband's trust. A man like Tommy never forgets. Finn grumbles, “I’m sick and tired of seeing him treat you like--like the dirt on his shoes! The bloke!” his hands ball into fists. You don’t think twice about his statement, in fact you understood completely why your new brother had the right to react like this. You sigh, reaching for his hands to hold, “Could you do me a favor?”
You were kept busy for the next few days, planning on yet another escape. Hopefully the last. Finn would send letters to your sister who lived in the next town. It had been quite a while since the two of you would communicate. Her and her husband had been busy since delivering their new baby.
So, it would take time to pack up their belongings before moving in with your parents. Finn would stop by the postal, on the way to wherever he was heading in order to avoid suspicion. For once it felt like everything was going your way.
As each day went by, you grew more excited to leave this place, once and for all. You let out your hair, made yourself more presentable, you even started smiling again. Tommy took note of how the corners of your lips would curl upwards on their own as you hummed a tune while making supper.
He’d been silently observing you adjusting to your new life. After putting away the dishes, you hoist Charlie on a hip before leaving the kitchen. Tommy listens carefully to your footsteps leading up the stairs before following them. He stops in front of his bedroom door, reaching for the knob.
Tumblr media
But before he’s had a chance to twist it open a faint sound of laughter erupts. He opens the door to spot you and Charlie on the bed. Your hands reaching to tickle the boy’s sides. Seemingly unknowing that your husband is witnessing the display of affection.
You hoist the toddler into the air. Tommy notices your expression. For the first time in months, you're actually smiling. It was like some sort of trance. He leans against the door frame. Seeing you with his boy felt, in a strange way, right. As if you both were meant to be. His son loves you. You drop Charlie onto your bosom to catch your breath.
Soft giggles manage to slip out of every exhale. Charlie’s hair tickles your chin so you tilt it to the side. That’s when you notice Tommy standing at the doorway. His posture is more relaxed than usual. For how long had he been standing there?
You look away from his gaze. It always did make you nervous. His fingers twitch, curling into his palms, “I uh...” he slides them into his pockets, “I want you to be my guest for an event,” Tommy looks up, waiting for an answer. You raise a brow and sit up, still holding the boy in your arms, “Who’ll watch over Charlie?”
“Finn offered to keep an eye on him.” of course.
“Alright,” you agreed, already knowing how it would play out. Tommy nods, “I’ll be back, ‘bout three hours from now.” he checks his pocket watch. Double taking the time. You hadn’t planned for him to take you anywhere. It’ll only delay your plans. But you couldn’t risk him questioning his decision, “Sure thing.” you return. Tommy looks as though he had one last thing to say, “And uh...wear something nice,” He turns away, leaving as soon as he came. Now that was odd.

Fun idea:
While living in the Treehouse, Snow Queen starts to mom Finn (And probably calls him Gunther? Who knows) because he is a kid, and she and Simon live there so obviously he has to be their son right? Now they are a family and Simon its never going to leave again.
Also Simon unwittingly starts to dad Finn around because he is Simon and he cant go around wthout adopting a child.
Finn feels a little weird because, while he already had Joshua and Margaret, these two are humans (Or in case of Betty, mostly human) and he doesnt know how to feel about it. His relationship with Simon could be extra awkward depending if the events of The Citadel already happened and Martin is already going around.
sir ma’am or mx you are a genius.
I’m thinking the Sugar Snow War takes place before Finn goes on his dad quest, so at this point he’s still under the impression that he’s the only human around… except for Simon, who they pulled out of an icicle a while ago and who they haven’t seen much of since he went to the Candy Kingdom. he used to visit a lot when he was in Wizard City, but after that he sort of went quiet. now he’s back, with the Snow Queen who’s utterly doting on him and seems very clingy, and with Marceline, who’s a mix of happy that her adoptive mom got her beloved back, and absolutely pissed that her ex tried to imprison said beloved for blackmail purposes and then went on to destroy her mom’s entire kingdom. Marceline leaves shortly after making sure that SQ and Simon will be good to stay at the treehouse (Jake said yes and what Jake says goes), but that just leaves them with Snow Queen, Simon, Finn, Jake, BMO, Shelby in the walls, and also Gunther, who keeps disappearing randomly (presumably to also be in the walls).
and then Finn comes down from i go stroom for breakfast the next morning, and Snow Queen has already set a place at the table for him next to the penguin and Simon is making pancakes, which is Weird, and Jake is already eating the pancakes, which isn’t as weird but it is a little odd that he’s not the one making them. apparently these two want to contribute to the household or something? Finn doesn’t really mind, the pancakes are good and Snow Queen is being pretty civil.
then it starts to get a little weirder.
she put snacks and a couple ice knives in his backpack before he went adventuring, ‘just in case’? she asked if he remembered his sword and said to have fun in the dungeon? she’s offering him life advice that is probably very illegal but not actually that bad? y’know what, maybe he will beset a wizard with penguins the next time they try to take his stuff. Magic Man has it coming, anyways.
it sort of reminds him of his mom — Jake’s mom first, but Finn’s mom, too. she’d done this sort of thing with a little less crazy and a little more sensibleness, but it’s the same gist anyways. it’s only when Snow Queen tries to fix his hair before putting his hat on him and calls him Gunther that he realises she’s trying to parent him.
and honestly, he doesn’t know that he’s really that opposed to it. sure, it’s kinda weird, but she’s not actually hurting anything. Simon’s been following her example to some degree, helping Finn with puzzles and artifacts, telling him about human stuff from the past, suggesting new tricks and games to try, but it doesn’t really feel like Joshua’s ‘tough love’. it’s something different, something Finn doesn’t really remember experiencing before — the closest thing he’s had to this is Jake, who’s definitely never been quite so parental about his worrying.
honestly, his only questions at this point are whether it would make Marceline his older sister if Snow Queen and Simon tried to adopt him (it would), and whether Jake is getting adopted too (he is).
(side note — Finn isn’t quite so messed up about Martin in this au because as soon as the events of the Citadel have played out, he walks himself straight over to the Snow Kingdom and lays on the floor until someone asks him what’s wrong, and then he gets to have Family Therapy with his third set of parents, since the first are half-unavailable and half-terrible, and the second are no longer around. He also gets to hold a penguin the entire time which is very therapeutic and does not leave him with the desire to rip Martin’s arm off.)

In This Moment (5)
Tumblr media
Summary: A single moment can spark a magnificent change in a person’s life.
A/N: Peaky Blinders AU! Ewan Mitchell OC x fem! Reader
The bar bustled with excited shouts and the piano that evening. The lads were celebrating another profitable deal with drinks and games. Everyone was there in attendance that night, including all of the Shelby family. Of course, Y/N made sure that Will was there. He’d become quite close with Arthur and Finn over time.
Y/N grabbed her glass from the bar, watching the joyous shouts from Arthur and Finn. The groups laughter reached from her all the way across the room. A humoured grin grew on her lips as she sipped her water. While she didn’t drink herself, she found humour in watching the rest of them get absolutely wasted...although the fall out wasn’t entirely great when she had to deal with them on occasion.
Y/N glanced up at the person standing over her shoulder, flushing at Will’s expectant smile. She mustered a sheepish smile, “Hi.”
“Hi.” he leaned against the bar, facing the room.
“Why aren’t you with them?” she gestured at the group.
“You looked lonely. Thought I'd keep you company.
She raised her eyebrows, staring into her drink. “I’m perfectly fine. You can go on, I know you want."
He stared at her with a look of disbelief.
“Why are you giving me that look?”
“Forgive me if I don’t believe you.”
She let out an exasperated sound, unsure of the answer to give him. “I’m used to being alone. I’m content with it.”
“Why?” he met her gaze. "Is there a reason?"
“Do you ever feel like-” she paused, trying to trade the words from her mouth. “Like people are judging you? Whether consciously or subconsciously-you can just tell. It’s something I’ve noticed since I was a girl. I prefer my own company most of the time. There's nothing wrong with that."
“Why’d you ever agree to let me live with you then?”
There was a hesitation there along with his curiosities growing. Y/N flickered to study his face, feeling calm in his presence. “I don’t feel that way when you’re around.” she traced the edge of the cup, “I’m not too sure why it’s different, but it just is.”
“You could’ve said no, but you didn’t.” he pointed out.
“You’ve met Tommy. Don’t act like I had much choice in the matter.” she teased.
“I think with the right motivations, you could make anything happen.”
She flushed under his gaze, as he appreciated her flustered state for the moment. Her mouth gaped, a huffed laugh escaped her lips.
“Right.” she traced her eyes to his lips, “And if I asked you something, then. Would you do it?”
“Technically, yes.” remembering Tommy’s order to meet each and every one of her requests. “I do what you ask."
"Why is that?" She asked, wanting to hear him say it.
"It's my job."
"So in practice, I could ask you...anything." Her voice trailed off at the end.
“Yes.” his low voice tickled her ears, curious as to where she was going with it. The new found confidence in her demeanour was surprising. “What’s on your mind?”
“Exactly." He blinked, looking down at her with a smirk.
He was, but that seemed a bit too on the nose.
“A few things.”
His words sent shivers along her skin as her jaw fell open, a shaky breath escaping. Meeting his blue eyes sent her off kilter as she almost fell apart. The emotion in his voice wasn’t what she was expecting, her heart shuddering in her chest. Many things rushed through her mind, the first foremost being that she had hopelessly fallen for him.
Will was now leaning closer to her, his face inches from her’s. Their breaths mixed together, the rest of the part melding into the background so it was just the two of them. “Ask me, then."
"I'm yours."
“What do you mean?" she pondered in astonishment, her voice below a whisper.
"I can't be any clearer."
The loud laughter from the boys shook her from the daze, Will pausing right above her lips. She could feel the brush of his warm breath as she turned to the side, blinking at disturbance.
She didn’t know if it was on her interpretation of his words, or something more hopeful on her part. Y/N stared at him, still unassured. Will pressed forward, his face growing closer. She watched, eyes half-lidded as his lips grew closer and she thought her heart would implode--
It wouldn’t last. It couldn't.
For a moment, it felt right. That was before she realised the absurdity of it all as life kept finding ways to tease her. Things like this weren’t meant for her. She knew that from the beginning. Lost in her feelings, she had acted foolishly for weeks. She had been afraid that falling too hard, once again, would leave her heartbroken. The domesticity was nice while it lasted, but having fallen in love with someone who couldn’t possibly reciprocate was the far cry she refused to accept. She had men flirt with before, and sure she had feelings for others. This, however, was the first time she truly felt for someone this deeply. She was not foolish enough to believe it would work out as she dreamt. Y/N had some dignity left to pull away from the fantasy. From the decision that could potentially ruin it all.
Y/N swallowed the tightening in her throat, dissuading the fluttering in her stomach as she straightened her posture.
“Excuse me.” she said, heading to escape from the moment before she could falter in his presence.
“Wait-”, Will reached out, but she had already departed. Despite her name being called out after her, she kept walking.

The Angel Of Death
Chapter Eighteen: The Seven Deadly Fathers (Part Two)
<- Previous Chapter / Next Chapter ->
Chapter Summary: More information is revealed about The Seven Deadly Fathers. More death is awaiting for Red.
Trigger Warning: Mentions of Death, Major Angst.
Tumblr media
"Red never trusts anyone other than me. She never could trust anyone else other than me. Not since both of our parents had died and since she was adopted by a family here in England, when she was fourteen her parents and mine were killed By The Seven Deadly Fathers. A group that technically doesn't exist." Galina said to Thomas and the rest of his family, "Red doesn't know that I'm telling you this, so I beg that you do not tell her that I have told you everything. She wouldn't have been able to tell you everything. Not without the sub-conscious need to hide details and cover up other things. I know that for the fact that I would do the same thing too."
Before Polly could interject or Arthur could raise his voice to discourage what Galina wanted them to keep quiet about. "If I die before this is over, Red will take her in and care for her, just like her mother would have. Don't argue with her when it comes to her parenting my child because Red and I trust that you can accept this." Galina sighed, taking out both twenty thousand pounds in cash and an gold ingot "As this will guarantee that you will stay quiet."
"First of all, how can you and Red get this much cash, gold this quickly." Thomas started, "Secondly, how do you two even make money?"
"We can do a lot of things Mister Shelby, we're Russian Rats as you lovely Englishmen love to call us." Galina responded, "We steal a lot of things, things like information, goods like guns, drugs and people. People to help us establish our services further, which is mainly in Russia. Here in England we provide protection for the wealthy for a steep price, if the poor wanted protection, we provide with no cost. Over in Ireland, we work jobs no one else wants to do. They provide us eyes and ears on political schemes in the area and how we should operate."
"I'm guessing that's not everything," Polly says to Galina with a laugh.
"You would be right." Galina shrugged, "Red and I work together as a team Mrs. Gray. She is the weapon, mind and soul of our work. Blind and deaf to everything else."
Hours before the meeting with the Shelby's. In the office the belonged to both Red and Galina. The transition period of what it seemed to feel like an eternity. A plan that would change everything built by both Red and Galina.
"This plan is weird even for you Red." Galina stated looking over the detailed plan, "But I know the weirder plans you come up with usually work."
"But the whole meeting about our work with the Shelby's hinges on the fact that they don't know any of it already." Galina states and points out like a mother hen to a belligerent wolf child, "But I know you can think of a back up, I can't expect you to do your part alone like this. Not anymore."
"You have more to say, I know it." Red walked in, "But make sure you say it while I'm not here. I can't tell them everything as I have blocked out most of the important details by now.
"Without you I am both deaf and blind to everything. I know for a fact that you know this and you can share this knowing the time spent at that meeting will give me the chance to save your daughter. Before they can do any harm to her." Red explained getting her pistol from the drawer and going to her cabinet to get her sniper rifle. "I'll be back before you know it Galina"
"How you going to get there?" Galina asked her, "Who is going with you this time?"
"Vanya and Ramon, as always Galina you are fretting over things that worth fretting over. I have it under complete control and all you need to do is stay here, wait for your daughter's safe return." Red says to her packing her things into her car, "I expect nothing to work, which is why things work out for me, we know that."
Red, Vanya and Ramon will be the ones to get Galina's daughter back. While Galina remains behind to make sure no Shelby gets involved. Even though they found a few of the members of The Seven Deadly Fathers kept Masha.
The return home would be more difficult than originally planned. The return of Masha got harder and harder the more they tried to return her to Galina. Vanya took her and left to find Galina in Small Heath. It was up to Ramon and Red to keep The Seven Deadly Fathers from them long enough to finish what they came there for.
Red was in Ireland fighting while Vanya had Masha with them. After minutes of arguing with Ramon, she convinced him to go with Vanya to protect both of them. While she remained to hold them off, delay them as best she could. Her father instructed her movements, told her where they were hiding and showed her how she should kill them. The guidance in the ways of death, she learned a lot from the hallucinated versions of both her mother and father. But the two versions of her parents
the younger version of them and the version they died as.
“I heard about you Red, I heard about your parents and the skill your family upheld with pride.” The lady spoke aloud, with no shame hidden within her voice, “I suppose you should hate us since we are the ones that killed your parents, your friend’s parents and your friend’s husband.”
“So deary, tell me why I shouldn’t kill you and just get this part of my life done?” Red responded staying out of her sight, “I mean you seven fucks are incredibly stupid. If you think I’d stop by just killing one of you. You seven fuckers are nothing just like me.”
“We killed your parents for a special reason” She paused shoving chairs and tables around, “You wouldn’t understand”
“There is no reason good enough to kill someone’s parents.” Red shouted back at her, “No reason good enough for people like you to exist. So don’t give me bullshit for so-called special reasons. For there are none to be had.”
“You are her daughter aren’t you,” She smirked and laughed, as Red continued to delay her. Continued to give time to Masha’s daring escape and rescuers.
“I don’t think you’re here to kill me. I think-“
“Not today, you’re disgusting without even having to look at you.” Red interrupted her shooting both her kneecaps. While getting up to move from her hiding spot, "I will kill you someday, just not today you stupid bitch"
Red still withheld the anger and impulsive need to kill her right then and there. She would have her vengeance fulfilled as soon as she could and where she had full control over the area. Plus, Galina wouldn’t be happy with her decision without her input.
“We will get what we want eventually Red.” She smirked looking over to Red.
“Not if I can help it” Red replied walking towards her and shooting her in the head. “Not if I can prevent it from happening.” “Bring in the peace and quiet as it calms down my temper. Bring in the anger needed in order to kill and to bring in the temptations of evolved fear of death to embolden my spirit.” Red thought to herself on the way home again.
"Galina I hope you left out the assassin part. As we both know how that would sound." Red says out loud to herself in the car she took from The Seven Deadly Father that lived in the cottage. "Forgive me for acting like I know better than I really do."

Peaky blinders modern high school sports AU:
Arthur - everything track and field. Throws a mean javelin. Could be good at more but is too competitive for team sports, fights his own teammates for the ball
Tommy - nothing. Absolutely nothing. Smoking under the stacks or behind the toilet block. Teachers sometimes talk him into umpiring the football so he won’t fail a unit, then he’s absolutely fucking brutal like it’s a game of Tommy Shelby vs both football teams
John - generically good at all team sports, nearly always first pick. Always takes on too many sports commitments and juggling clashes. Prefers football
Finn - squash and badminton. Stays indoors.
Ada - tennis. Likes the way it’s like a verbal tactical battle with a single opponent. Not good at doubles because can’t teamwork with her partner. (Ada in a white short tennis dress. At least one brother makes an effort to go every time she plays and glares at the crowd)
Lizzie - cross country running. Practices in the streets. Wears earbuds and ignores catcalls. If the uniform requires short shorts and sleeves, always wears full length Lycra leggings and long sleeves under
Alfie - lurking under the bleachers with Tommy. Will also umpire if pressed but takes sides and has no shame in it. Used to do rugby and wrestle until he was banned and expelled due to an Incident in the Locker Room
Esme - lurking with Tommy and Alfie behind the toilet block because she’s nearly always pregnant.
May - chief competitive cheerleader, organiser, fundraiser, etc
Grace - excellent at anything involving a bat and a ball, amazing pitcher, has knocked people out with a softball and no one sure if she meant it (her aim’s too good to miss?) or an accident (she’s too perfect to be malicious). Tommy watches the dynamic with interest
Michael - touch rugby. *only* touch. Mum worries too much otherwise. Uniform always immaculate
Jessie - netball, goal defence or centre
Linda - netball, goal attack or wing attack
Freddie - look, teachers keep trying and he keeps trying but the lanky dude’s so uncoordinated he’s dangerous and they let him sit out. He refuses to join the gang behind the toilet block so sits somewhere and sulks and sometimes Tommy comes over and passes him over a durry. Always at Ada’s matches and gives her detailed commentary on what she could’ve done better afterwards.
Gina - competitive ballroom. She’s teaching Michael
Sabini - 100% crazy arsehole PE Teacher vibes. No one understands him. Is he Australian? Is he Italian? Is he English? Is he Czechoslovakian? No one knows. Nearly gets into a fistfight with Tommy trying to force him to participate until administration intervenes

Dark Games (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Arthur Shelby x Evelyn (OC) x Finn Shelby
Summary: (Dark AU) When power hungry Arthur is left to run the Eden Club unchecked, he forces his women into dangerous games with the characters of the London underworld. What happens when Finn interferes with his newest girl?
Moodboard credit: the lovely @shelbydelrey
Author's Note: Written for @shelbydelrey Peaky x Lana Festival. Inspired by "Dark But Just a Game" by Lana Del Rey.
Warnings: mention of violence, weapons, mention of blood, ethnic slur, drug use, drinking, pregnancy, mention of abortion, assault
The faces of all the women Evelyn knew who suffered or simply vanished, flashed through her mind as she slept, each one reaching for her as though she might gain purchase. But they all slipped from her grasp like sand, leaving her defeated to face a mirror. Her own blank expression stared back at her as Arthur’s large hand encircled her neck. His mustache tickling the delicate skin beneath her ear as he whispered, “Evie, my pretty little fool.” As she turned to face him, the glass shattered and he was gone. Stooping to gather the pieces, a large, jagged shard sliced her palm until the blood ran down her fingertips and dripped onto the floor. It collected in a puddle at her feet which quickly turned to inky blackness all around her, creating a suffocating fear. She awoke with a start, covered in sweat and heaving for breath. It had been the same dream since she left London.
Evelyn could recall the evening the Peaky Blinders took over the Eden Club well. It had been a a night ruled by violent chaos. Chairs and tables were overturned as patrons ran from the hoodlums who produced flying fists and razors. Mario was stabbed in the face with a broken bottle trying to stop them. He held a few of them off long enough for some of the girls to hide, including Evelyn.
She took cover backstage, watching with wide eyes as a tall lanky man approached the microphone declaring the establishment was now under new management, "By order of the Peaky Blinders." She readied the knife she hid in her garter belt, thinking of a time when she laughed at the prospect of needing one in a place like this. “I’m not going to change,” she told herself when she’d first arrived, but the girl waiting to stab anyone who came near her begged to challenge that notion.
It was there that Arthur Shelby found her and quickly disarmed her. “Who might you be, angel?” he asked with a devilish smirk, wild hair drooping over his eyes in a rakish manner and and blood dripping from his brow. Pressed close to his lean muscle, there was something about him that intrigued her. It was an unexpected attraction that overwhelmed her senses.
“I’m Evelyn," she replied breathily. "Aren't you going to tell me your name?"
“Thought I’d made it clear, love. I’m a Shelby. Name’s Arthur,” he said proudly.
“You’re bleeding, Arthur. Will you let me help you?” Evelyn asked, venturing a hand to brush the hair from his forehead. Arthur leaned into her touch slightly, his rapid breathing slowing momentarily. His eyes locked onto her as though he were assessing her intentions. When he found nothing but sincerity lying beneath the offer, he accepted and she lead him downstairs hand in hand.
They didn’t speak a word as she found the items necessary to clean his wound and care for him. Arthur watched her graceful movements with awe, something akin to peaceful reverie coming over his face as she sat before him. She quickly realized how touch starved he was when she brushed his face with a cool cloth and felt pity for him despite the acts of violence she’d witnessed earlier.
When she finished her work, she sat back and observed his now calm features asking, “Can I ask why? What does this place mean to you?” She waited to see if her questions raised his ire, but found him more than willing to talk with her.
“We don’t mean you no harm. It’s time for a change is all,” he said, going on to explain that the blinders were expanding their territory and what she had seen was nothing more than a show of their power. Darby Sabini was being run out and he would now be in charge.
“You don’t have to be afraid of me, love” Arthur assured her. “Those wops don’t know how to take care of their women, but I’m going to look after you from now on,” he said, placing a large, calloused hand to her face. She felt her breath hitch at his words. No one had ever said anything like that to her. She’d been on her own for as long as she could remember and the offer of protection was tempting. The Sabini’s had been terrible employers so how could the Shelbys be any worse? Evelyn wanted to trust Arthur in that moment and she did because there was something in his eyes that told her she was safe.
———————————-
It had been a month since the Shelbys had taken over and the club was flourishing. There were new customers coming in every night and Evelyn was making more in tips than she ever had before. Her instinct to trust Arthur had been correct. He was protective of all his employees, especially Evelyn. He didn’t hesitate to throw a punch if anyone disrespected her which made her feel special and if she dared to think it, powerful. She held her head a bit higher knowing no one would cross a woman protected by the Shelbys.
Truthfully, everyone’s mood had improved. Arthur’s younger brother John was around occasionally and his raunchy jokes were a favorite amongst the girls. Although he was married, he had a few affairs she knew of with Elisabeth and Marie. They all giggled about it afterwards, claiming he had the biggest cock they’d ever seen and stamina to match. The early days were full of heady gossip.
The girls also talked about the youngest brother, Finn, though he didn’t come round as often. He worked for the boss, Tommy, back in Birmingham. Finn didn’t seem to be as free to make his own decisions and worked harder than his siblings, always off on errands and chauffeuring them about town. Evelyn felt sorry for him because they spoke to him like hired help rather than a brother and rarely invited him for a drink at the family table.
The older brothers had a habit of gathering at a large booth in the back where the men discussed business and watched their customers with a keen eye. John would saunter over with a girl on each arm and Arthur would call Evelyn to his side, holding court as he laughed and cursed. It seemed as though the party would last forever.
--------------------------
Three months in and the club was seeing an increase in Jewish patrons. The girls all whispered about the reasons for this sudden change, considering their previous clientele had been Italian men. Some believed it to be the influence of a new gentleman with a cane at his side and crown tattoos on his hands. He visited Arthur faithfully every Sunday. Whatever was said in their private conversations agitated Arthur greatly and he was never quite the same afterward. Despite her questions about the mysterious man, Arthur kept that business to himself. He only asked Evelyn to keep him company afterwards. A good fuck was all Arthur needed to forget the irritating man who took up too much of his time.
After a stressful night negotiating with the mad baker, he was particularly agitated. With Evelyn too fatigued to offer solace, he offered up his favorite remedy. “We call it Tokyo. It’ll help ya, dove,” Arthur said, pushing the little blue vial into her palm.
“I don’t know,” Evelyn said, tracing her fingertips over his chest. “I know some girls who got in trouble with this stuff,” she said uncertainly.
“Don’t be so serious, Evie. It’s just a bit fun, yeah?” he said, tapping the white powder out onto his hand for her. “Go on,” he said with a charming smile. Without another thought, Evelyn snorted it and felt the most intoxicating rush of her life. There was no turning back after she found this new cure for lack of energy and depressing days. Of course, Arthur never denied her. She was too trusting of Arthur in those days she would recall later.
----------------------
The only person who seemed to notice or care about her habit was Finn. When he began to notice her weight loss, he made a habit of dropping in to check on her. It always brought a smile to her face seeing his impish delight at stealing her away.
“C’mon,” Finn would urge with a wave of his arm. “Let’s get out of here,” he always said, checking the hall.
“Finn, I can’t leave,” Evelyn pretended to protest, knowing he would carry her out if she didn't follow.
“You’re with a Shelby. You can do whatever the fuck you like,” he said with a cheeky grin and she couldn’t help but smile back at him, giving his hand a squeeze as he pulled her out the back door toward a cafe. He would buy her food they would often share as he entertained her with stories about his mischievous nieces and nephews.
Some days he could tell she was sad despite the laughter. He could sense Evelyn wanted to talk about her problems, but she never really did, preferring to sit and smoke, leaning her head against Finn’s broad shoulder for comfort. He wondered if Arthur had anything to do with her unhappy moods and hated taking her back to the club, knowing he was delivering her into the hands of his wayward brother. Finn often found himself thinking about how Evelyn could stay with someone like that.
—————————————
It was nine months before Evelyn noticed girls from the club were leaving. Well, perhaps not leaving so much as disappearing. They would be tasked with providing company to gentlemen and never return. Evelyn and the other girls were urged not to ask questions about anyone who left employment. Truthfully, with girls coming and going so often and the lack of sleep, Evelyn lost track. She was spending so much time with Arthur that she didn’t have time to learn their names anymore. Perhaps is was the effect of a busy life or the drugs, but she rarely noticed the details.
One evening after a long shift, she returned to Arthur's flat, calling out, “Arthur? Arthur, where are you?" She had finished at the club without any snow, but only barely. Her skin crawled with need. Turning the pockets of his discarded coat inside out for the little blue bottle she craved, she whined when she came up empty. As she stomped her foot in frustration, a giggle echoed down the hall. Following the sounds of splashing water all the way to the bathroom, she opened the door to find an intoxicated Arthur, sunk beneath a layer of bubbles, and a girl from the club sucking a bruise into his neck as she pumped his shaft below the water.
“Evie!” He slurred, removing one hand from the water to slick back his hair. “Join us, darlin’,” he said with a wolfish grin, unashamed and completely unaware of her shock and sadness at finding him with someone else.
The girl’s head rose to nod in agreement as she bit her lip. Removing her hand from the side of the tub, she grasped Evelyn’s wrist before she could leave. Like a siren she called out temptingly, “Stay and have a sniff of snow?” She knew her words had the desired effect as Evelyn’s eyes darkened. Although Evelyn didn’t want to stay where another was clearly doing a fine job of satisfying her man, she listened to Arthur’s commands to kneel and take what she badly needed off the woman’s ample breast, his hand at the back of her head holding her in place as he cooed at her how beautiful she looked.
“Come on, love. Get in,” he urged and that was enough for her to undress for him. He sighed at the sight of her, letting his head drop back against the edge of the tub, watching in enjoyment. It wasn’t a difficult choice from there as she saw how much he wanted her. She even began to believe him when she felt the surge of her high kick in, riding him and feeling Clara pushed to the side. “Been waitin’ all day for you,” he groaned, hips thrusting up into her roughly.
“Then tell her to leave, Arthur,” Evelyn said, leaning forward to kiss him. Arthur’s hand came up to grasp at her throat possessively as a wicked smile crossed his lips. Then he nodded, flicking his eyes toward the other girl. “Get the fuck out,” he growled at her and Evelyn had never felt more powerful.
Later as they lay in bed a tangle of arms and legs, Arthur turned to Evelyn and watched her with hooded eyes. Voice low and full of gravel he proclaimed, “You ain’t like other girls, Evie. You help me shut out all the noise when my head gets too loud,” he said, rubbing circles into her hip with his thumb. “I love you,” he said quietly, wrapping his arms around her tightly. Silence descended before he kissed her forehead. Then he rolled her onto his chest, falling into a deep sleep with his large hand splayed across her back. Evelyn basked in his words and warm embrace, knowing her connection to Arthur was far greater than anyone else’s.
Evelyn had never carried a sense of superiority over anyone. Raised by poor people in a dirty slum, it was never her expectation to do better than the life she’d known as a child. However, Arthur allowed her to glimpse the possibility of something more and it was thrilling. Good food, fine clothing and her own dressing room set her apart from the beginning. However, now she could add Arthur’s promises of their future together to the glittering array offered before her like a queen.
It was thoughts like these that caused her to overlook the mistreatment of those around her. It would be another month before she happened to overhear a conversation as she passed outside Arthur’s office that would change all that. She only stopped when she heard the cries of a girl who had been at the club almost as long as she had. Sandra wasn’t prone to theatrics so the cries Evelyn heard surprised her.
“I can’t stay here, Mr. Shelby,” Sandra pleaded.
“Why the fuck not? Solomons likes ya,” Arthur said, pouring himself a drink and taking a seat behind his desk.
“That’s the problem,” she said, voice wobbling.
“You’re talking in bloody circles. I ain’t got time for this. Are you going to get the information from him or not?” Arthur said testily.
“I can’t do that to him. I’m carrying his child,” she confessed.
“You stupid fucking bitch. Thought I told ya…” Arthur warned, chair scraping the floor in shrill protest as he stood to confront her.
“I know what you said, Arthur, but this is different. He loves-“ Sandra attempted before Arthur cut her off with a harsh scoff.
“You going to say he loves you?,” he laughed as he took a sip of the whisky he held in his hand. “Say that myself sometimes after I’ve emptied my balls. Doesn’t mean shit.”
“Alfie deserves to know,” she challenged Arthur.
“You’ve got fucking work to do. Last thing you need is a bloody kid,” he huffed. Slamming his glass down on the desk as he instructed darkly, “Get rid of it.”
“Wh-what?” She stammered in disbelief. “You can’t be serious!” Without thinking she kept going, “I’ll tell him everything, I swear I will. And when Alfie finds out…” she warned.
Heavy footsteps could be heard and then a loud slap as Arthur connected with her face. A loud thud reverberated as Arthur pinned her against the wall by her neck. “Don’t you dare threaten me,” he rumbled. “Could kill you right now if I wanted to. He’d never come lookin’ for ya,” he hissed, squeezing the air from her lungs. A faint gurgling sound could be heard over the course of the next few moments, along with the desperate scratching of nails against the wall.
Evelyn struggled to catch her own breath, frightened Sandra might be dying. Tears pricked her eyes as she bit her fingers, willing her feet to move and do something to stop what she was hearing on the other side of the wall. Just then, Sandra gasped for breath. A sharp wheezing and deep coughs emanated from her as Arthur grumbled, “I’m not gonna let you fuck this up for me. So you’re not sayin’ a word. Understand?”
A small sob that sounded like a yes echoed out along with a few sniffles. Arthur grunted as she ran from the room. Evelyn ran as well, scared and confused by what she’d just overheard. It was a side of Arthur she didn’t want to believe existed.
With his office empty and free of distraction, Arthur picked up the telephone and called for Isiah. “Be at the club tonight by nine,” he said. “Need you to take care of a problem.”

Vampire!Luca au
Cw: blood, murder, allusions to sex, torture, some gore, dark themes
No minors 🔞
Tumblr media
“Have a taste, amore.” He gave his woman a taste of their dinner in a long kiss before letting her have Linda Shelby all to herself.
He would drink them all dry.
Luca tosses Arthur Shelby’s body aside like one of his children’s dolls once he and his bride are done.
He had already taken John and his family, Michael and the hospital staff, Polly Gray, Finn Shelby and the whore Angel died for, Arthur’s sweet wife, their little son and now him after he had seen the rumors are true.
Ada had been the first, in Boston where he seduced her in her apartment and drained her of her savory blood. She had fought him when she realized he was not looking for a fuck. It had not mattered, Luca’s been a demon of the night for a long time now.
Only Tommy and his little bastard boy remain.
Luca couldn’t wait until he sank his teeth and drank the damned blood of an innocent child. Next to lustful virgins, a child conceived in sin and born in treachery was the vampiric version of fine dining.
He would kill him in front of his father, like he had done with Arthur’s boy and John’s horde of brats.
Nothing like being helpless to your own child’s suffering. It flavors the blood better than lust or the sins you carry from birth.
Tommy Shelby and all those who remain in his gang would make a fine victory feast.
But Tommy was not the main dish, no, that was the woman who started it all: Grace Shelby.
Grace Shelby who faked her death when she saw there was no future with Shelby and sought greener pastures with the Russian Duchess. Tatiana Petrovna who had satisfied them enough to get them from glittering Paris to the filthy place that turned him into the monster he is now.
Grace Helen Shelby was marinating in pain and anguish in her gilded cage back at the hotel.
Even Thomas and Charles Shelby's blood wouldn’t compare to hers, the woman who started it all.
“If you are a good girl, I will let you have Mrs. Shelby.” He tells his darling wife as the other vampires in their army remove all traces of their sumptuous dinner.

Hidden Treasure (Part 11)
Arranged Marriage AU: Dark!Tommy Shelby x Wife!Reader
Warning(s): Kidnapping, Physical harm, Physical assault.
Author's note(s): We see it all unwrapping!
Tension rises within the Shelby family, and your husband is to blame for it all.
Tumblr media
Tommy drags you into the living room. Where the rest of his brothers await. Finn is seated. Your eyes widen from the sight of his bruised and battered form. A cut lip, complimented with a black eye and small bruises that littered his body. There was a firm handprint right against his throat. As if someone had him pinned down. You were all too familiar with the feeling. There was no doubt that this was Tommy's doing. You could practically hear your blood boiling. Your maternal instincts kicking in as you saw red.
You twist out of your husband’s grip and rush towards the young boy, “Finn! What have they done to you?!” Your hands cup his face, causing him to wince in pain. He tries not to squirm in discomfort, “S’alright m’fine…I’m sorry I couldn’t help you...” he looks away in shame, defeat. Your heart breaks for him. Your hand combs through his hair cooing him, “No, you didn’t, it was bound to happen,” you turn around and make your way towards Tommy. You were tired of hiding, Tired of being silenced, Tired of smiling through the hell that he had put you through. You choose not to be afraid of him anymore. Enough was enough. No more. Because now? You were fucking fuming, “You…”
“Hello dear.” He replies nonchalantly. Keeping a straight posture.
“You bastard!” you shrieked.
“Nice to see you too—“Tommy’s head swings to the side from the slap he’d received. You grab him by the back of his neck, Like the many times he’d done to you and growl, “You could’ve done something to me for running off, but instead you had to take it out on Finn! Like a fucking coward!!” you bark at him. He turns his head around. Your backhand was much stronger than he'd expected. A faint trickle of blood drips from his nose. He swipes it with a finger to examine, “Not too bad...could be better…” judging your strike.
Tumblr media
You hissed in his face, “Then fight back!" you slap his chest, "Fight back like you always do!” your voice begins to break, “Or is it because you don’t want your family to know? How much of a monster you were to me?!”
He pulls your wrists together. It was futile to retrieve them back. Tommy held you close, “I’m not going to fight you.” his voice is softer.
“Why not?!” you spat.
“Because you wouldn’t last, not in your condition,” as soon as he glances down your blood ran cold. Tommy had finally found your little secret. His eyes are glue to your belly, “For how long?” he reaches to caress the faint bump. You look down at his hand now resting against it and bit your bottom lip, “Since the last time we went to the Garrison,”
More specifically the same night he had dragged you out of the bar in front of everyone. Soon after firing his gun. Watching the people scatter through the streets, like sewage rats…it made your stomach twist.
Tumblr media
Tommy’s voice breaks the flashback, “Why didn’t you tell me?” his voice is soft. His eyes show a genuine concern for your well being. You tell him your complete and honest truth,
“I was scared you didn’t want it, because it was obvious you didn’t want me, and you’re only now treating me different because I’m carrying your child...how…” tears began to welt, streaming down your cheeks, “…How could you be so cruel to me?” you sob. Tommy pulls you into his chest. You bury your face into his coat.
He felt a guilt like no other. He knew he had only himself to blame for everything that had happened, “I have not been a proper husband, and I understand why you would want to leave, being the circumstances that I put you through…and I’m sorry...“ his hands cup your face. His thumbs glide against your wet cheeks. Your face scrunches as you slap his hands away, “Then why’d you hurt Finn?! He was only trying to help me!”
Finn scratches the back of his head, “Well…actually I sort of…started it, as soon as they asked me, I started raining hell on 'em,” it was during the morning after. Tommy had plans to spend all day with you and Charlie. How long had it been since he’d slept that well? Too long for him not to remember. But to his surprise, he’d awoken to his wife missing. Part of him hoped that you were probably downstairs in the kitchen preparing for breakfast as you usually would.
No matter how often the maids would offer to help you refused. This was the one thing you had to yourself. He didn’t mind. It was adorable seeing you so focused on perfecting a meal instead of a tart. When Tommy arrived at the kitchen, he expected you to be seated already with breakfast done. However, you were nowhere to be found. All of the maids were gone as well.
At that instance Tommy knew there was something wrong, very wrong. He searches every room calling, yelling for your name. By now you were probably long gone. He picks up bits of his scattered clothes. Time was scarce. Every minute mattered. Tommy rounds up his best men, not to search but to interrogate. There was no way an enemy could’ve gotten this close to his house. Not without him knowing. Someone had betrayed him, he’s sure of it.
He finds out who when his brothers arrive. One of them is suspiciously late, Finn. When the younger Shelby arrived at the house he isn’t as alert as he usually is. In fact, he’s quite relaxed. Tommy knew it had all been an act. He stands right in front of him. He reads the younger boy like a book. What gave it away were his shoes. Finn had gotten new shoes a few days ago. In what situation would a young lad refuse to wear them? If they’ve been ruined. Finn must have been out last night during the storm.
Tommy’s hands ball into fists, he snarls in his face, “I’m only going to tell you this once Finn: Where. Is. She?” a storm was brewing inside Tommy. Finn remembers your promise. He remembers the way your lip quivered with fear of failing. He flashes his older brother a grin before tackling him to the ground.
But Tommy’s strength eventually surpasses his, the elder Shelby flips him over, holding Finn by the throat. Finn’s fingers dig deep into his arm but nothing would avail. John and Arthur have to pry them from each other. But like any other Shelby, Finn doesn’t go down without a fight. He gave it his all but against three soldiers. Only for it to end as a lost cause.
You smack his arm then pinch his ear, “That’s for making me worry!” then embrace him in a hug. For a brief moment he’s confused if you’re still angry at him or not but then relaxes in your arms. He chuckles, “The only reason why they’re allowing me to be here was because I told him that if he didn’t let me see you, I’d rat him out to Polly,”
You raise a brow, “And he believed you?”
“No, so I told him I already did,” He grins. You don’t know what fate has in store for Tommy. All you could do is pray for her to listen to your side of the story. It’s about time Thomas Michael Shelby dealt with the wrath of Ms. Elizabeth Gray. He knew at some point he’d have to tell her about their…marital problems. Him and his brothers had kept it a secret for far too long. Now everything had spiraled out of control.
He arrives to the church, the same one he had been married in, twice. Where he’ll have to face the Shelby Matriarch. Tommy sits himself in the booth right behind her. He sighs, “She wanted to leave me Polly,” his shoulders sink, “I’ve changed, more than what I was willing to at first, there’s no reason why she would want to leave now,” His fingers twitch in his lap, "I don't want to lose her,"
Polly turns around. Her temper had gotten the best of her. Slap after slap lands on her nephew. Her voice booms, “Have you gone mad?! Why does she want to leave?!” Echoing off the church’s walls. Polly throws in a few good smacks at him. Someone has to. “You’re a grown man Thomas, for fucks sake act like one! Stop relying on this poor girl to fix you–fix yourself for her! If you think you can just take and take from a good woman and expect her to be fine with it?! You’re a damn fool!” Polly almost falls out of her seat. She catches her breath.

She held her nephew by the shoulders for balance, “If any harm ever comes to that girl ever again, I will make sure to hunt. You. Down,” She huffs. Her expression changes to confusion when Tommy looks up, his eyes now glossed over, “How can I fix this?”
“You’re asking the wrong person,” Polly scolds before walking to the front to give a small prayer. As soon as she crosses herself, she promptly leaves, ignoring Tommy who now sulked all alone. After the war, he had almost lost all faith. After Grace had died, so had a part of him that believed there was something better. Then you came along. You, who had tried so hard to fix a broken man like him. What did he do to deserve a treasure like you?
For the first time in years Tommy decides to pray. He prays for only one thing: Your happiness. Whether it included him or not didn't matter.
