Acacia's Definitive Defense of Langris x Finesse
No one asked about this pairing, but I'm going to ramble about them anyway... especially since I realized I don't think I've ever actually written a proper post about them as this has been sitting in my drafts for over a year (A/N: Yikes! Sorry friends. I completely forgot I wrote this until today when I tried to find that post I was absolutely certain I had made about Langris x Finesse only to find it buried in my unposted drafts 😅🙈 But I'm posting it now to coincide with the ship ask game so it kind of works...? Maybe? I have no excuses...).
Anyways, dear goodness do I have thoughts about this ship. I’m not sure I can even wrangle them all, but I am going to try my best.
I’m sure it’s pretty clear from my blog that I have a deep love for my spatial mage boys and want good things for them which is one of the main reasons why I have a lot of concerns about the whole House Vaude soap opera. A friend of mine (irl) and I once discussed that plotline for literally 6 hours so I could go on and on about this for ages, but I have tried my best to be brief. That didn't really happen so I apologize in advance for all of the rambling.
I've tried to keep the focus of this post on Langris and Finesse's relationship, so please check out this post if you want to hear my many thoughts on the House Vaude succession drama as whole and in general. To keep things organized, I've divided this discussion into 2 main subsections for clarity under the cut!
(Warnings: Black Clover spoilers and discussion of some heavier topics such as childhood trauma and abuse. Arranged marriage is also mentioned)
Why I Think Langris and Finesse Genuinely Love Each Other (not necessarily in a romantic way but definitely in a selfless care and concern kind of way)
One of my most basic premises for my personal interpretation of Langris' character really comes down to the fact that I think what Langris actually wants more than anything else is unconditional love and to be accepted for who he is (rather than what he does/his accomplishments). He wants to have people who love him, a family—but he'd never admit this because he is convinced he'll never get it. He is convinced that love needs to be earned and he can't earn it, and his relationship with Lady Finesse is a perfect example of this, I think.
It hurts Langris that she is just the kindest person ever and she doesn't like/love him (or such is the reality in Langris' mind anyway given the fact that he has carried around that one time she complimented Finral as "she hates me" for literal years in the canon. But I digress). Langris doesn't like games he can't see a possibility of winning. He closes himself off from love and building meaningful relationships because he doesn't think he'll "win" people's love in the end. He's very cynical and jaded in this way, but more than that, he's wounded. It comes from a place of being denied love without strings attached, without conditions for his entire life and of being told his by his parents that love has to be earned and being convinced that he can't earn it, that nothing he does will ever be good enough and that he will never deserve the love he so desperately craves. And in that way, it comes from a fear of being hurt and rejected. When you care about someone, you give them the power to hurt you—and Langris doesn't want that kind of vulnerability. So I think he just completely counts himself out of the running when it comes to Finesse and defers to his brother—assuming (probably correctly) that she’d choose Finral if she was given a choice between the two of them.
All of that said, he can't quite stop himself from caring for her with a genuine love and respect (not necessarily in a romantic sense but he does care for her)—it’s just sealed off somewhere and not something he really thinks about or allows himself to feel (let alone label) until his brother "declaring war" on him brings all of that to the surface and he kind of has to reconcile how much he wants to be the Head of House Vaude (what he’s worked for his entire life) with how much he wants Lady Finesse to be happy. I love how in that scene there is actually a moment (at least in the anime) in which "the camera" turns and we're watching the scene unfold from Langris' eyes/perspective immediately before he gets involved and tells Finral to clean up his act.
(A/N: If you listen very carefully you can hear the sound of Langris' entire world falling apart...)
Okay, bad jokes aside, this is a huge moment for Langris. It takes him all of five seconds to decide that Lady Finesse's happiness is far more important to him than House Vaude, than his title, his future, his own dreams and aspirations that he has worked for literally his entire life and, ultimately, is more important than everything he has looked to for his own self-worth and fulfillment up unto that point (which causes him to have a bit of an existential crisis as he tries to figure out who he is without those things, without being the next Head of House Vaude, but I digress again). It is an incredible act of love to set aside what someone wants for themselves in order to make another person happy—to choose what is best for another person even at great personal sacrifice. Regardless of how you want to qualify that love (romantic or platonic), it does not diminish the gravity of Langris' sacrifice and the willingness he shows to choose Finesse's happiness over the things that are (seemingly) the most important to him in the world.
Up until this point, Langris is this incredibly goal-oriented character who is set on becoming the best, the strongest, and eventually the head of House Vaude which comes off as self-interested and a little ruthless in his willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, but suddenly, here he is, ready to give all of that up so that Lady Finesse can have the chance to be happy. It's almost like he is saying (honestly, far louder and clearer than any words possibly could), "I love you more than all of that."
Why else would he be helping his brother take over as heir to House Vaude when that actually seems to be something Langris wants for himself? (I know the poll I ran examined some different ideas and interpretations but that's always been my personal take on it). It’s almost like in that moment, Langris has realized that he can’t make Lady Finesse happy (even if he wants to), but he thinks that Finral can so he wants to make Finral into the best he can be for her.
Once Langris is reasonably sure that Finral is at a place that he can make Finesse happy and has become a man "worthy of her," I could definitely see him stepping aside so that his brother could take over their House and marry her—purely out of concern for Finesse’s happiness, and there is something incredibly selfless and very beautiful about that.
I think Finesse's side of things is much more practical. The fact of the matter is that Finesse is royalty in a medieval society where she will inevitably be married off for a political alliance and/or to produce children, and she has probably always known that she needs to marry out of duty/responsibility, so I can’t really see her as that much of a hopeless romantic given the circumstances. If she allows herself anything, it is the hope that she will get to spend her life with someone who does care for her and who she can be content with. I don't think throughout most of Finesse's life and certainly not throughout this whole arranged marriage business that anyone has ever really asked her what she wanted or ever really cared about her wishes before, but Langris seems to have a genuine interest in her wishes and her happiness more so than anyone else. And I think she does care for him (again, not necessarily in a romantic way but it is a genuine care and concern of at least friendship).
As I discussed in this post, when Langris has all that elf-business and the King threatens to dissolve the betrothal and punish the Vaudes, it is Finesse who comes to their defense rather than taking what is quite possibly her only chance at an "out." And it is an informed, free choice on her part. I love her line in the English dub that she "knows Lord Langris and has no misgivings about him" and therefore essentially begs her uncle not to "judge him too harshly." I think there is something very strong and very courageous in her decision to believe in the good in Langris even when he is at his worst, and her concern is truly and completely focused on what is best for him. I'm especially thinking of that moment when she begs him to stop before he does something he will regret. She's worried about him: his hurt and his guilt. She really wants what's best for him, and it's this love for him and this belief in him that really brings out the best in Langris.
My absolute favorite thing about this ship (besides how selfless they are towards each other) is really that Finesse has this way of bringing out this softer, gentler side of Langris that, I think, very few people have actually seen. Langris himself is so insistent on hiding this (probably a learned response from growing up in an environment where any hint of emotion and any sensitivity is viewed as a weakness), but really he has such a deep capacity for love and given the opportunity would be fiercely loyal.
Langris may not care about a lot of people, but the ones he chooses to care about he will love forever. He's just such a tsun about it, I think, so it can be very hard for anyone (and especially for those with preconceived notions of him as a snotty stick-in-the-mud) to see that he's really very sweet and awkward as heck about his feelings. Langris' love might be quiet—it's not very flashy and usually shows itself in doing little, everyday things for the people he loves—but still waters run very, very deep and he has shown that he would do just about anything to protect the people he loves most and make them happy, no matter what that means for himself. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he would die for Finesse if it came down to it.
Ultimately, I can imagine a lot of different outcomes for this relationship (some of which never, ever cross over into that romantic place). I really just want them both to be happy whether that means they end up together or not, but yes, I could see them happy with each other in a romantic sense under very specific circumstances since they do have such a selfless love for each other (but I think that is probably a discussion for another time because this is already super, super long so I'm cutting myself off in favor of the next section...).
Why I personally think Langris rather than Finral is better suited for Finesse
As much I don't like pitting ships against each other, I don't think it's avoidable in this case since she is going to be in arranged marriage with one of them. To paraphrase a favorite musical of mine, it's not a matter of "if" but which one. And I think it's best for me to just start off by saying that while I do genuinely like and appreciate Finesse and Finral as a ship as well, I personally think that Langris and Finesse are better suited for one another in the long term.
I will admit upfront that this is in part because of my own personal experiences of having a chronic illness (and needless to say that is a personal bias that colors my opinions, so please just keep that in mind), but I think it's important to talk about the fact that Finesse is chronically ill because it's not something I've ever really seen discussed when talking about ships for her and I really think it should be taken into account. Like Finesse, I have been sick for most of my life, and I can really relate to the kind of difficulties and limitations that Finesse likely experiences due to being chronically ill and the realities of the less active and much more slower-paced life she would lead and, by proxy, the life anyone who married her would have to lead. Again, I am not saying that I don’t like or couldn’t imagine her & Finral together (I do genuinely like that ship too), but I almost think Langris is better suited for her in that he actually wants (or seems to want) the slower-paced life they’d probably have together. For instance, there are likely to be frequent situations that would arise in which Finesse is too ill or too tired to go out and her husband would then be “forced” to stay home with her. With Langris, I think, there would never really need to be much of that feeling of guilt on Finesse’s part or the fear that she is taking away something from Langris or being a burden, because Langris isn’t super sociable and would just want to stay home anyway. In fact, let’s be honest here, he’d probably, actually feel kind of relieved that he has gotten out of unwanted socializing. Whereas Finral is a much more lively and sociable person (rather than an "old soul" like Langris), and though Finral would never, ever want Finesse to feel like a burden or to feel guilty about being sick, I could imagine there is more of that feeling (at least from Finesse’s side) that he has given up a lot more to be with her since his active social life would drastically change as soon as they married.
There's also the matter of the panic Finral would probably have whenever Finesse was ill or having a flare of symptoms. Of course, Langris would be worried as well, but I think because of his personality, he is better able to shelve that and help in a crisis rather than Finral who gets really worked up and then just sort of shuts down. Obviously this is something that can be learned over time, but I just worry that it would be a constant source of stress for Finral which would ultimately make Finesse very worried about him and upset that he is upset on her account. I think Finesse would have a lot of fear that the life she could give a lively, busy, & social person like Finral would be holding him back in some way. The question there is really: will what Finral wants out of life ever gel with the limitations Finesse has to live with? Whereas I don't think that question is as much of an issue with Langris since he is an old soul and incredibly steady, very unlike his more restless, adventurous, and high-energy brother.
I think Langris and Finesse are alike in this way. Though they have many differences in their personalities (and a really nice balance there), they have a lot of similarities in worldview and their attitudes towards life and their life goals—being more traditional, formal, and proper ‘old souls.' Whereas I think she and Finral have more similarities in personality (despite him being much more lively), they’re both incredibly kind, gentle & easy-going people who aren’t particularly ambitious and often make decisions based on what will make other people happy and "keep the peace." But worldview wise he seems much more modern and less traditional than her which I could see causing some tensions since I think they want different things out of life, in a way. It’s almost more important to be alike in life goals/worldview than personality, I think.
I also think Finesse and Langris share common interests and genuinely enjoy each other's company (as we get these glimpses of in the anime where they're just having a quiet, comfortable tea parties together for instance). Even if it started off as an obligation to spend time together because of this arranged marriage they were going to be in, I like to think that eventually Langris and Finesse actually became fairly good friends and came to genuinely enjoy each other's company. I guess it’s a bit unfair to Finral to bring this up since we haven’t seen him spend a lot of time with Finesse so we can't say that they don’t enjoy each other’s company but I just don’t see them having the same shared interests that she would have with Langris.

Hi Lyra! Can I be a little out of the box and ask for Langris and Finesse for your game, please? (I guess they’ve been on my mind a bit since I’ve been thinking about Altan recently). Family Tree of Vaude-Roulacase-Vermillion
And with Langris x Mimosa, I introduce a new crack ship. @mamavino made me ship it^^
Yes, there is a reason why none of the children wear the name Vaude. I have a story for it and I probably need to write it one day... To sum it up, at a certain point, Langris cut ties with his parents, as he realized their toxic love for him and prefers to stay in contact with his brother. The engagement between house Calmreich/Kira and house Vaude almost broke because of that, but thanks to Finrals determination, as well as Finesses, Langris' help and Finesses mother's ruse, Finral and Finesse still got to marry each other.
Since Langris later married into royalty and took the Vermillion name, none of the brothers children got the name Vaude. Ledior and Lillian had a distant cousin who would now one day take over the Vaudes. They're not happy about it.
Their children don't have much contact with their paternal grandparents. It is of course for the better. Lillian complaints more, but only because her grandchildren are royalty. Ledior sends some gifts for birthdays, even to Finrals children, but he never tried to mend the bonds with his sons.
Since Finesse has a poor health, it wasn't certain if she could even bear any children. So, Finral and Finesse considered adoption to have children, even though it's not considered as "proper" for nobility.
Joshua originally came from the streets and had to steal to survive. He once stumbled upon Finral, who decided to take him in momentarily since he obviously needed help. Soon, Finral and Finesse got attached to Joshua and offered to adopt him. Joshua, while growing attached to those two, was a bit hesitant, but a word from his new uncle Langris made accept the offer.
Lemony came from the orphanage. Finesse met him when she visited that orphanage for charity. She immediately took a liking into him and discussed with the director so that she could adopt him as soon as possible. She surprised Finral with a new child when he came home.
Anastasia was a surprise pregnancy for everyone. Of course, Finral was worried for Finesse, but she took a lot of rest during those nine months. After a difficult birth – which ended up leaving Finesse sterile for good, but she was fine thanks to Owen and Mimosa – a little girl was born, named after Finrals mother. Anastasia thankfully didn't got her mother's frail health, on the contrary, she is as healthy as an ox.
Joshua and Lemony are VERY protective of their little sister.
Mimosa and Langris were first friends before slowly starting to fall in love. Mimosa always put him in his place with that calm face she always has when angry... and surprisingly, Langris started to fell for her partly because of that. Really need to write at least one oneshot about them one day^^'
@acacia-may Lemony is named because I thought about you while creating him and because I remembered that you love ASOUE as well ;)
Jacinto is their first born, their two daughters are closer to age together.
They love to prank their father^^
Joshua has very pale purple wild hair and orange eyes, he has Spatial magic (which was handy during his stealing period). Lemony has emerald green hair, rather long & wavy and lemon yellow eyes, his magic is Obsidian. Anastasia has her mother's black hair and her father's pinkish purple eyes, she got Light magic from her mother.
Jacinto has the orange hair of his mother, chin length, and the blue eyes of his father, he got Vine magic. Iris has brown hair like Langris and green eyes like Mimosa, she is the only one of her sibling to got Spatial magic. Amaryllis has her mother's orange hair and her eyes are a mix of her parents, a bright blue-green, she has Leaves magic.
The two brothers are really close now, even more with their respective families.

Hi there, friend! I'd love to hear you ramble about two of my favorite Black Clover pairings Langris x Finesse and Finral x Vanessa, if you don't mind? Hi Acacia, thank you so much for the ask!! 💕 I’m having a horrifically busy semester, so I greatly appreciate the chance to sit down and talk about some of my favorite characters. This is SO EXCITING, prepare for a very lengthy post 😅
💛💙 Duck x Fakir (Starting with these two because they are my everything right now.)
My roommate convinced me to watch Princess Tutu a few weeks ago and I totally fell in love with it! The character arcs are so spectacular. I actually thought about asking you if you had seen it, as it seemed like something you might like based on the other shows you post about (But then I had already pitched it to everyone I knew irl so I figured I should just relax 😆).
But getting back to Duck and Fakir, I think they’re absolutely perfect for each other. Personally, it makes sense and compels me. I believe it’s canon that they have feelings for each other, or at least it’s strongly implied? Either way, Duck inspires Fakir and Fakir believes in Duck, which i think is so sweet, and I feel like Duck and Fakir bring out the best in each other. Also, the way they change together throughout the story is so beautiful! They both end up in way more mature and healthy places than when they started and were a big part of the other person’s growth. I think the best ships are the ones where the narrative weaves their stories together in that way.
This is just me ranting, but I need to mention how beautiful it is that Fakir loves Duck not as Princess Tutu, just as Duck. In Mytho’s case, he thought of Duck as a friend and he was very kind to her, but he didn’t love Duck, he loved princess Tutu. For Fakir to love the real her ties in SO WELL with how she grows from her insecurities and confusion about her identity. I could also scream for a very long time about the fact that Fakir would stay with her forever, even if she was only a duck. The love they have for each other is so mature, but also so sweet and innocent at the same time. They’re perfect!
That’s why the conclusion of their arc broke my heart so much, because they were perfect for each other and would have made each other so happy. It’s so bittersweet. I wouldn’t change it for anything, but I’m a sucker for the fics on ao3 where Fakir writes her back to being a girl. I can envision them having such a happy future together.
🩵🖤 Langris x Finesse
Im so excited to get the chance to talk about these two. They’re one of my all time favorite pairings and they’ve been on my mind recently! In my opinion, they make sense and are super compelling.
I sort of feel like at this point, I’ve thought about them so much that they’re more like my headcanon characters than a faithful representation of the actual characters in the show (I tend to do that lol😅). But even if I try my hardest to separate all of that from what is officially canon, I personally think that Langris and Finesse make more sense than Finesse and Finral. I could see those two being good together under different circumstances even if they aren’t my favorite ship, but I’m really not on board with the way the show is handling it. I’m not gonna open the can of worms that is Finral returning to his abusive household right now, but that is very unhealthy (and it seems like the show is encouraging it??) Even beyond that, I feel like Finral isn’t in the right headspace right now for a healthy relationship. He’s trying his best and I wholeheartedly believe that he cares about Finesse. But he’s been using romance and idealizing girls as a coping mechanism for a very long time, and from what we see on the show I feel like he’s romanticizing Finesse to a degree that wouldn’t be healthy in the long term. She’s his childhood crush and dream girl, and he feels like if he becomes “good enough” for her he can “win her heart.” I don’t know if I’m explaining this right at all, but in my opinion he’s not really treating her like a partner, as much he’s treating her like an ideal to someday be good enough to achieve, which is more tied in with his own self worth than actually seeing her and loving her for all she is. (Although I would totally see them together under different circumstances if he takes time to work on himself!)
Anyways getting back on track, we don’t see that kind of idealization with Langris. He seems to see her and what she wants more clearly, and loves her enough to accept that she is more interested in Finral and step aside. I feel like they so compatible as well, because neither of them are very passionate people like Finral or Vanessa are. I feel like they would have a beautiful, more subdued kind of love and would be able to fit neatly into each other’s lives.
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the time period before Langris was possessed when they were engaged. My heart always breaks when I think about the fact that Langris truly believed Finesse hated him. I think he always felt that she would rather marry Finral, and that he was never able to be really open with her because of this, and even that he resented her for it. I think it’s so compelling that all of this is essentially a misunderstanding, because Finesse does like him, and clearly cares about him and trusts him because even after he went crazy at the royal knights exam she tried to defend and protect him and wasn’t afraid of him (I love Finesse, she has such a beautiful heart). I think that after some character development on Langris’s end, they would be good for each other.
💚🩷 Finral x Vanessa
Vanessa and Finral my darlings!! They have such a sweet canon friendship and seem to support each other so well. For me they make sense and are compelling.
I love how on Vanessa’s end, she is gentle with him when he needs support, but she also isn’t afraid to speak her mind to him in the early seasons when he’s being a sleaze. She keeps him in line, both in the sense that she helps him be a better person and also that she pulls him back to reality when he’s spiraling and feeling insecure. And since I mentioned Finral’s idealization of girls before, I should say that I personally can’t see this happening with Vanessa because they’ve been friends for so long and have both seen each other at their worst. He knows her so well that he couldn’t idealize her if he tried. If he falls in love with her, it’s because he truly sees her and loves her for all her faults. I think they would work so well in a relationship together in a hypothetical future when Finral has decided that going back to House Vaude isn’t the right choice and has gotten over Finesse.
Also on the topic of the future, I see them being incredible parents. They are both passionate and caring people, and I believe they would fully devote themselves to not repeating their parent’s mistakes. It would need to be a slow burn and they would both be very cautious because they value their friendship so much. But I think they make so much sense together!

A/n: Hello, thank you so much for requesting. I enjoyed writing this especially because there is not enough love for the Black Clover men out there. I went with a gender neutral reader as you didn’t specify so I hope that’s fine. I also kind of split the prompts, Finral and Kalus are reacting to someone putting down their s/o and Zora and Nozel are someone flirting with them in front of their s/o. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and remember to hydrate or diedrate.
Finral:
Finral may have a history of being a playboy but that all changed. After you agreed to go out with him, he flipped his script real fast. The only person he had eyes for was you, going as far as telling Langris he was no longer interested in Lady Finesse and wishes them both well. Having you as a partner was like a dream come true for him, you didn’t care that he was the disgraced son of the Vaude family, or that his magic was only good for support. You just wanted him to be happy and You helped him feel more confident in himself and his abilities.
For the first time in his life finral actually felt secure in a relationship and would do everything in his power to keep the relationship healthy. So, imagine his shock when he notices you shying away from his affection while out on a date. Normally he could hold your hand, kiss your cheeks or hold you to his side as you walk through the markets of Kikka, but for some reason you pulled away every time he tried to show affection.
“Hey, Y/n is everything okay? You normally don’t mind holding hands and stuff.” He asked quietly, sounding almost scared that he did something wrong or misunderstood what you were comfortable with.
Before you could respond another voice Finral did not recognize, started to speak. “Well if it isn’t Y/n, when you said you were joining the Magic Knights I thought you'd at least try but I guess the Black Bulls are probably the only squad willing to take a weakass mage like yourself.” Turning his attention to the person who so rudely interrupted his date, the spacial mage could quickly tell this was some pompous noble. What he couldn’t tell though was how they knew you and why they were being rude.
“Excuse me, who are you?” Finral asked, his tone showing he was not pleased at all with how this person was acting.
Scoff in offense the noble spoke again. “Don’t take that tone with me. I’ll have you know, I’m Claire Elric, you know the family of mages who specialize in Alchemy magic.” The snob, Claire identified herself. “And I was talking with an old friend. I suggest you mind your own business but then again judging from your robe you’re also a Black Bull so you probably don’t understand respect.” Claire stated matter of factly.
Rolling his eyes, Finral spoke again. “It was a rhetorical question, you could be the king’s kid for all I care, it doesn't give you the right to talk down to people for no reason.” He started not having the patience for assholes. “Y/n is a powerful mage, and works hard everyday to help our squad get better. Not only that but they are extremely kind and caring, so I suggest you treat them with respect.”
Having been silently watching from behind Finral since Claire first spoke, you couldn’t hide the shock on your face. Finral was never the confrontational type, but here he is defending you from one of your life long bullies. Being behind him though you could also tell from the look on her face that Claire was ready to snap, and it would probably be best to leave before stuff goes south. “Finral, we should just go. It’s not a big deal, she’s right anyway the Bulls are the only squad that would take a mage like me.” You said gently pulling at his sleeve trying to get him to drop it and go.
Sadly your pleas were left unanswered as Finral was not going to stand for someone convincing his lovely partner they were less than perfect. “No Y/n, we aren’t leaving just yet. Not until this ass realizes that it’s not a bad thing you are part of the Black Bulls.” He said looking over at you before turning back to the now scowling noble. “Like I said before Y/n is a valuable member of our Squad and any other Squad would be lucky to have them. But Judging from your lack of any squad robe, you weren’t even good enough for any, so instead of spending your time looking down on others who have done more than you, maybe you should try being a better person.”
Claire’s scowl went from mildly upset to pissed real fast. Before she could even think to respond Finral quickly used his magic to open a small portal at the noble’s feet and watched as she fell through it. You looked at him shocked before speaking. “One, thank you for standing up for me. Claire has been a bully since we were young. And two, where the hell did you send her?” You were grateful she was gone but you hoped it wasn’t going to lead to problems for you later.
“Oh I just sent her to the farthest place I could without using too much mana. Don’t worry she’ll be fine though it may take her a while to get back, I hear Hage is a few days walk from castle town.” He said with a smirk. “And I’ll alway defend you, no one should talk down to you for any reason. I mean it, you are an amazing and valuable member of the Black Bulls. I know I for one would be lost without you.” With that Finral pulled you into his side, placing a kiss on your forehead before continuing throughout the market. You would probably get a complaint later about Finral stranding a noble in the forsaken realm, in a few days but hey that’s nothing new for the Black Bulls, plus Yami will probably find it funny.
Zora:
�� Finding time for the two of you to go and enjoy yourselves while being part of the Black Bulls is a hassle. Hell even days off aren’t off limits from chaos as Asta proved when he went to Nean and had a run in with The Eye of the Midnight Sun. So the moment Captain Yami even started to say it was time for everyone to have a day off, you and Zora were out of the hideout and without a second thought.
You guys made your way to a village where hopefully none of the crazier members of the squad would end up and made sure you weren’t followed. Peace and quiet in the misfit squad were hard to come by so you weren’t risking it. Making your way to the local pub, you and Zora sat at a small table only big enough for two and as far from the crowd that had gathered. Planning to enjoy a nice lunch before walking the town and just being together.
Unfortunately maybe the pub was not the best idea for a lunch date. You guys had agreed on it because it would be cheaper than one of the cafes or restaurants around the village. What you hadn’t factored in was the numerous drunkards who either just started their day of drinking or were still there after their night of drinking. In all honesty it took longer than one would expect for one of these drunks to cause a problem but hey it still happened.
You had been mid-sentence about how you hid Magna’s flan the other day and blamed Luck, just to cause some trouble, when some drunk lady stumbled over to your table. “Ex-cuse me, but could I of-ffer you a drink?” The lady said eye one Zora’s shirtless torso, completely ignoring you and the fact Zora could not look less interested in her.
“No. Anyway, Y/n next time we should go a step further instead of just hiding Magna’s food we should -” Zora started plotting how to mess with the resident idiots after turning down the drunk. Only to get halfway through his thought before Drunky spoke again.
“Come o-on handsome, I’m ssure I can give you a great time.” She slurred as she tried to get his attention. Zora just rolled his eyes and tried to ignore her. “Don’t be like thaat, I just want to ssee whatss behind that mask.” The Drunk was clearly to far down the drain to realize she had zero chance.
Being totally done with the lady you decided to take it on yourself to get her to leave. “Hey drunky, he’s not interested. Also we are kinda in the middle of a date and I would appreciate it if you left my boyfriend alone.” You said, making it clear you did not want to deal with her while still being somewhat polite. The lady just scoffed at you before turning back to Zora.
“I know I can give you bett-tter time then this buzz kill.” She said now leaning on the table. You were trying to hide your frustration, when the drunk did something that made the normally calm mage across from you let out his own frustration. While trying to seduce him by running her fingers along his jaw, the lady had the nerve to try and pull his mask from his face.
Standing probably faster than you’ve seen him move in while, Zora completely loses his cool. “Do not touch me and definitely do not touch my mask. We tried to be polite but you leave me no choice. No one would want anything to do with a hopeless drunk who has nothing better to do than interrupt a couple on the first date they’ve had in months, and then touch one of them without permission after being told twice to leave.” The whole time he spoke he had the lady’s wrist in his hand, not a tight enough grasp to break it or leave lasting damage but it was clear from his white knuckles there would likely be a bruise.
Deciding it’s probably best for Zora to not catch an assault charge for possibly injuring a civilian on day off, you step in. Resting a hand on his shoulder you spoke up. “Hey, let's just go back to the hideout. I know we wanted peace and quiet but that clearly isn’t gonna happen here.” Zora thought for a second before dropping the lady’s wrist and wrapped his arm over your shoulders leading you out of the pub ignoring the eyes of the few patrons who weren’t unconscious.
“Sorry our date got ruined by that lady.” You apologized hoping to ease some of the tension clear on Zora’s face.
He just shook his head. “Not your fault. I think we should just accept the madness we deal with. I mean where’s the fun in life if someone isn’t being crazy.” Zora made a valid point.
Chuckling as you made your way back to the Black Bulls’ base. “You’re right, if we wanted quite we probably shouldn’t have joined the Black Bulls of all squads.” You laughed as you reached the hideout and were greeted with the tell tale yelling from Magna and Luck fighting over who knows what this time.
Klaus:
Being at the Golden Dawn’s base was intimidating to begin with, now add not being a member of the top squad and it feels like even breathing wrong could get you yelled at. Luckily you were only there to get your boyfriend for the date you had planned, it was rare that you got the same days off so you liked to take advantage of it whenever you could. Normally, Klaus would either meet you at the date location or come get you from your base, but for some reason he had requested you meet at the Golden Dawn’s headquarters.
You had been greeted at the door by Mimosa who said Klaus was just finishing up a quick meeting with the Captain and then he’d be ready to go. While waiting Mimosa offered to sit and chat so you didn’t feel so out of place, your Black robe standing out in the sea of golden ones. Accepting the offer you and Mimosa sat by a window enjoying some tea while chatting about recent missions and laughing at some stories of Klaus making a fool of himself over Asta.
Completely engrossed in Mimosa’s story about how concerned Klaus was when they found Asta passed out in the cave near Nean, you failed to notice the green haired mage approaching the two of you. “Yes, he really said he was only worried because if Asta was hurt then you would be upset and he didn’t want to see you cry.” Mimosa said holding in laughter also not noticing her Squadmate approaching.
“When did we start letting the riff raff lounge around our base?” Letoile said, as she looked at you with what could only be described as disgust.
“I’m sorry, what do you mean by that Letoile?” Mimosa asked, confused why her squadmate would say something like that.
The compass mage scoffed. “I mean, when was it okay for a Black Bull to just hang around the Golden Dawn’s base, shouldn’t they be with the other commoners and criminals?” Every word that came out hurt, sure you had heard it all before, the Black Bulls weren’t exactly the most respected squad, but this time it felt personal.
Mimosa watched as the color drained from your face, she could tell you were debating leaving even before Klaus was ready to go. “Y/n has every right to be here. They may not be a member of this squad but they are still a Magic Knight. Besides they’re waiting on Klaus, it’s not like they’re trying to move in.” The royal tried to defend you, but it seemed her words only gave the other woman more fuel for her fire.
“Oh that’s right, you’re Klaus’s charity case. The little commoner who barely managed to help save him in that dungeon. I don’t know how you convinced a noble like him to go out with you but he could do so much better. I mean he’s surrounded by powerful mages everyday and he picked a weak peasant like you. You probably used some forbidden spell to get his attention, huh?” Letoile said with a pointed look, clearly enjoying the clear turmoil on your face. She paused trying to think of more insults, hoping to find the one to get you to run off.
Unfortunately for her, it was at that moment a certain purple eyed mage decided to clear his throat. Everyone froze, Klaus may be calm and collected most of the time but when he’s upset it can get scary. “I don’t know what you think you gain from being rude to my partner, Letoile but I suggest you apologize and then leave them alone.” He said voice never changed from his usual calm and strict tone. The green haired mage mumbled a quick apology and quickly ran off. Klaus then turned to Mimosa. “Thank you Mimosa for keeping them company while I was busy, and for standing up for them as well.” The red head nodded and quickly bid farewell before giving you to space.
“So how much of the interaction did you see?” You asked quietly as Klaus moved to help you stand from the table you were sitting at.
“The whole time, I heard you laughing about Mimosa’s retelling of what happened in Nean and was going to join you before she said much else when I saw Letoile approach. I wanted to see what she wanted.” He explained with a slight frown. “I’m sorry I should have stepped in sooner, I was curious to see how other members of the squad would react to you when I wasn’t present.” It was clear from his tone that he was truly sorry for the things his team mate said.
Resting a hand on his arm you spoke up. “It’s fine Klaus, sure what she said hurt but having you and Mimosa stand up for me means a lot. In all honesty I’ve heard worse, I’m a Black Bull after all.” Hearing you laugh at your last comment brought a smile to his face.
“Are you sure you’re okay, you looked close to crying or running?” He asked as he pointed out how clear it was you had been uncomfortable.
“Yes I’m fine. I can’t say what she said didn’t hurt but knowing how much you truly support me and seeing how much you’ve changed since meeting me and Asta, I know everything she said was out of jealousy.” You answered, now enjoying the look of slight confusion on his face.
“Jealousy? What do you mean?” Klaus was truly perplexed.
“Yeah, She’s just jealous I got the best guy and I didn’t even have to try.” You said, finishing the statement placing a kiss to the steel mage’s cheek. Klaus at a loss for words, his face bright red from the kiss, just held your hand and guided you out of the base towards the originally planned date.
Nozel:
To put simply Nozel is clueless when it comes to people flirting with him. To even start dating you had to straight up say you liked him and wanted to go on a date. That being said he is the most thoughtful man ever in a relationship. Believing that his partner deserves the world and all of his focus. So when a random member of his squad started flirting with him, he had no idea.
The first couple of times you had been out either on missions or just running a few errands, so you weren’t there to tell him this girl wasn’t just being kind to him but in fact trying to seduce him. Sure his younger siblings had been around and tried to tell him after the girl had left that she was flirting with him, but he only has eyes for you and in his eyes it’s clear he’s off limits, so surely Solid and Nebra are seeing things.
He only realizes that his siblings were right when the same girl came up and started flirting with him, while at a feast the Silver Eagles were holding for some reason. You and Nozel were sitting together having a conversation about how he should try being nicer to Noelle, when little miss heart eyes popped up.
“Hello Captain Nozel. How’s your day going?” The girl asked clearly unfazed by the glare both the captain and you gave her at the interruption. After hearing the quick fine breathed out by the now eerily calm Captain, she kept speaking. “That’s good to hear, I spent the day training and was thinking maybe you could give me some pointers on how to be more effective in combat?” She asked, twirling her hair and trying to act cute.
Nozel being clueless, and just annoyed that his conversation was interrupted by idle chatter mumbled a sure and turned to go back to his previous discussion. “Wow Captain, you are probably the best Captain there is, being willing to train even the lowest members of your squad. I can’t wait to learn from such an amazing mage.” The silver haired Captain just nodded and made to look back at you. “Do you do this for all your squad mates or am I just that special to you Nozel?” The girl went from subtle flirting to not trying to hide real quick.
“Honey I hate to break it to you, but Nozel is like this with everyone. He stopped listening to your squeaky ass voice the second you interrupted our conversation.” You said being done with the girl’s clear lack of care for those around her. “Besides take it from the person he’s dating, flirting will get you nowhere. Now if you don’t mind Me and my boyfriend here are gonna leave and if I hear even a suggestion that you’ve been flirting with him again you will wish you never looked in his direction.” With that you stood up, Nozel following without protest because he just wanted some peace.
“She wasn’t flirting with me was she?” He asked as you exited the dining hall making your way to your room at the Silver Eagles Base.
You couldn’t help but laugh at how clueless he could be. “Nozel honey, it was so painfully obvious to everyone she’s been flirting with you. Hell your siblings have told me previously that she’s done it and those two are so absorbed in their own delusions of greatness I’m shocked they noticed before you.” He just stared at you perplexed as he really thought, his siblings were fucking with him. Thinking for a moment he just nodded in acceptance entering your shared room ready to call it a night. “You know, for a Magic Knight Captain, you are really clueless sometimes. I’m sure even Fuegolen could have been able to tell she was flirting and that man can’t understand sarcasm.”
Hearing the mention of his rival Nozel glared at you as he undid the braid at the front of his hair. “Not funny.” He said full of seriousness, but from the slight smile he knew you were only joking.

Hi there friend. Not sure how crack this pairing is but if you’re still taking them I have to ask about Langris x Finesse? It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and not discussed often, but I’m pretty unapologetic in the enjoyment I personally find in this ship (though probably in an alternate reality than the one we’re going to get in the canon). Ok so this may be a weird one but hear me out.
If Finral ever settles down, whether it’s with Finesse or whoever else, if he ever settles down I’d bet 90% of my manga (so a lot) that this boy has a daughter. (Daughter’s name is y/n) It’s always the flirty boys that get their hearts stolen by daughters and Finral would be one of the most adorable fathers out there (writing that sentence I just see him tearing up the first time he gets to take her on a ‘date’ to a father daughter dance 🥺🥰 what if she put a green streak in her hair like daddy?) Okay I’m getting off topic here.
I was wondering if you could please do Finral with a daughter headcannons? How he was when she was first born, first time he held her and a lot of other firsts and how she changes his world? BUT, here is the weird part I warned you about, could you also do Uncle Langris headcannons? They still may be working on their relationship but I think Langris would adore his niece and love being an uncle even though he’d never admit it to his brother. So like with Finral, but from Langris’s new uncle perspective - how he was when she was first born, first time Finral let him hold her and a lot of other uncle niece firsts and how she changes his world? This little girl adores hugging her daddy and uncle.
I don’t know why I love the idea of Unkie-Langris just as much as Daddy-Finral (daddy in the literal sense not the dirty sense!)

Dad! Finral x f! reader
When y/n was born, this man absolutely tears at how precious and fragile the thing in his arm is. His heart is overwhelmed with so much love, he didn't even know he could love someone or something this much until he held you in his arms.
The first time you laughed, he felt that it was the most melodious sound he has ever heard. His heart felt so warm and fuzzy he thought it was going to burst.
When you first fell sick, man absolutely started crying again. He was panicking as hell and it took mommy and the rest of the bulls to calm him down. (Well actually uncle Yami just knocked him out.)
He was way beyond elated when the first word you spoke was "papa" he was screaming so loudly and throwing you in the air and making you repeat "papa" the whole day and mom was rolling her eyes so much.
When you first learnt how to walk, he was so excited. He made sure there was cushions nearby and if you fell, spatial magic would drop you into a cushion. Once you were running over to mommy and fell hard on the floor and you cried. He gave mommy the eye only for her to return it.
Fast forward to today, it was the day of your wedding. As he walked you down the aisle, tears streaming down his face, it was just a bittersweet moment for him. As he handed you over to your husband, he said "please take care of my precious little baby. She's my everything." You couldn't help but shed a tear or two.
After your dad cried through a good number of packet of tissues, it's finally the time for the daughter and dad dance.

Because of you, every friday is Uncle Langris day. He would never miss it for the world. If he had to go on mission, he absolutely buys huge and exquisite gifts to compensate missing out on Uncle Langris day.
Ever since you came into his life, Langris has become a more emotional man. He has someone to be the role model of, to protect and to teach. He was more willing to show his soft side, especially towards you.
With your very first paycheck, you bought uncle Langris a little pocket watch, which he brings everywhere. (He does not allow anyone to touch it by the way. ) And whenever he misses you just that much, or when things get a little tough, he'd look at that watch.
Would always take your side whenever you quarrelled with dad. And that really pissed Finral off to no ends and this Uncle loves it. You'd ring him up, crying because dad didn't allow you to hang out late with your friends and he'd come over to pick you to his house to chill instead. (honestly Finral rather had it that way. but he was just jealous Uncle Langris gets all the plus points)
When the news of you getting married came to Uncle Langris, he did a background check on your fiancé. And he also paid a personal visit to him.
Nobody will ever know it, but he shed a tear when he saw you walking down that aisle.

Beginnings in Five Conversations
Vanessa has five conversations to figure out a person's feelings.

Vanessa Enoteca had met Finral Roulacase during her high school years. A friend of hers had had a brother, who was a friend of Finral’s, and so the four of them had met every now and then. Sometimes it was at school corridors, sometimes at their house. Vanessa had, admittedly, not had the most flattering first impression of Finral. She had thought him a little shallow and air-headed, especially after witnessing his flirty demeanour. It was not that she had anything against flirtiness - she quite liked herself throwing the occasional tease - but it was that perceived shallowness. She had thought him shifty, perhaps a player at best. It had changed when she had learned to know him. Finral was one of the kindest people she knew. He was gentle and a little awkward, but his cheerfulness drew people to him. He was a free spirit with a weakness for a pretty face and sweet words. Not that Vanessa could see him commit to relationships too often. Yet those days of high school didn’t see the two become very close yet - it was later, when several years later Vanessa realized that her new neighbour was, in fact, Finral. They met many times then, whether it was during shopping trips or simply coming back from their day at the university. They began to hang out together, and their friendship bloomed. They shared long walks, heartaches, even complaints about their respective universities. Before long they were sitting on the same couch, stuffing their mouths with popcorn and squealing as the protagonist confessed their love in a romantic comedy. Eventually they moved together to help with the expenses, both happy to divide chores and bills.
It was then that Vanessa was introduced more to Finral’s family. His younger brother, Langris, visited their apartment every now and then. He studied physics, just like Finral, though their approaches were different. In fact, to Vanessa it seemed like the two brothers were almost opposites. Where Finral was bright and sociable, Langris was arrogant and a bit withdrawn. They would discuss theoretical and experimental concepts that Vanessa had only heard of, and could barely pretend to know about. It was much easier when the two brother’s childhood friend, Finesse, came along as well. She was a slender, shy woman with a friendly smile and a gentle manner. When Langris would get intense about some experimental concepts, Finesse would take Vanessa aside and simply ask how she was doing or request to see what she was working on. Vanessa would gladly tell her about what she had learnt during her courses or show what she was tailoring. She quickly caught on that the two brothers would quickly lose their interest in talking about physics when Finesse left them like that. They were both extremely considerate about her, and would look after her like two lost puppies. It didn’t take much to guess that they both harboured some amount of feeling for the older woman. Not that she was that much older - just one year over Vanessa, four over Finral, and five over Langris.
“Tell me,” Vanessa started one day as only she and Finesse were sitting in the living room.
Finral and Langris were in Finral’s bedroom, searching for a book Langris wanted to borrow for a course.
“You know that those two have feelings for you, right?”
Finesse smiled a little weakly and shook her head.
“It’s difficult to say what part of them is feelings, and what is childhood fondness,” she replied at length. “Finral, for example, is very fond of me, but if he pretends that he loves me, he is only fooling himself.”
Vanessa looked at her curiously. Finesse’s fingers fiddled a little.
“He has always been like this with me. He flirts, he takes care of me, he makes sure I am fine. If I ever answer his flirts, he withdraws, however. He doesn’t really want it, I’m sure.”
“Do you want it?”
A brief silence followed Vanessa’s question. Finesse glanced towards the room where the boys were.
“Langris is very sweet, you know,” she said suddenly. “Much sweeter than you’d think.”
“That’s not what I asked,” Vanessa laughed out of surprise. “What about Finral?”
“Ah, you’re not catching on.”
Finesse’s voice was a little frustrated, and she buried her head in her hands for a moment.
“Finral is a good friend. I am certain we could live together in happiness, if that would be what he wanted, but we wouldn’t love each other. We could talk ages, lying together on the sofa. He’d take care of me when things would get rough. He would always be there for me. It has always been this way between us: we love each other, but it is not love.”
“You mean–it’s platonic?”
“Yes,” Finesse sighed, sounding a little relieved. “Yes, it’s platonic.”
“Do you think he feels the same way?” Vanessa asked more carefully.
She thought Finesse looked sincerely surprised at her question. As if she hadn’t realised that Finral was, for lack of a better word, infatuated with her. Perhaps it was too strong a word. Yet Vanessa was certain that it was true. Finral loved Finesse. Finesse loved Langris. Now, did Langris love her back?
“What - what is it about Langris?” Vanessa questioned.
She couldn’t quite keep the astonished tone away from her voice. Finesse flushed a little and looked away.
“I don’t know,” she whined. “He can be so passionate when he isn’t with Finral. He gets excited about the smallest of things, though he doesn’t want to show it. I think it is - it is cute. He is shy and tries to act so tough, but he likes a lot of things. He is soft and just - he is just - you haven’t heard him explain all these concepts, with stars in his eyes.”
None of that, indeed, sounded like Langris to Vanessa. She wondered if perhaps Finesse had met some alien that pretended to be Langris, but that would be silly. It wasn’t that unrealistic that Langris would act differently around his childhood friend. Maybe he shed all that arrogance he carried with himself around her. In that case, good for them.
“It’s difficult with them,” Finesse continued. “I don’t want to ruin anything, so I just - I don’t know. It is better to not do anything.”
Vanessa sighed and leaned onto her hand. Finesse was still avoiding her gaze, but she could see the slight flush on the woman’s cheeks still. She cared for Langris, more than for Finral. No, not more - just in a different way.
“Have you–” Vanessa started, but the voices of the two brothers suddenly emerged from the room.
“--seen any cool movies recently?” she sighed resignedly, changing the topic for Finesse’s sake.
She looked thoughtfully at Finral, his adorable face lighting up as he began listening to Finesse’s explanation of an animated movie. She felt a little sting in her chest. His adoration was clear to see. Why did it make her feel so bad?
The thoughts about the love dilemma didn’t leave Vanessa alone, even as days went by. It was difficult enough to figure out if she should say something to Finral, but for some reason, she felt personally affected. She didn’t quite know - or want to know! - why. At least she got another chance at figuring out what the situation was during one of Langris’ visits. Finral was walking outside when he arrived, and so it was just him and Vanessa. After the initial pleasantries had been swiftly dealt with, they stood and stared at each other rather awkwardly. Vanessa couldn’t see what Finesse saw in him. It wasn’t her problem, anyways.
“Hey, can I ask you something personal?” she blurted out.
It was a little sudden. She leaned against a wall and crossed her arms. Langris cocked an eyebrow in that cocky way of his. There were no stars in his eyes, just a smug (and false) sense of superiority.
“What?”
“Do you like Finesse? And I don’t mean - not as friends.”
Langris’ gaze faltered, his hands curling to fists.
“What kind of a question is that?” he said, his tone a tad bit aggressive.
“I had a talk with her recently,” Vanessa confessed, hoping it would lure Langris to speak up.
“And?”
“Answer my question.”
“Sure, sure,” Langris shrugged his shoulders.
He had faltered, but he was going back to that easy-going, arrogant attitude he usually portrayed.
“Finesse is a dear friend to both me and my brother,” he stated. “So what?”
He wasn’t taking the bait.
“Ah, I see,” Vanessa sighed, twirling a finger around a strand of her hair. “That’s all then.”
“What do you mean? Did she say something?”
“I’m sure you can ask her later. She is a dear friend after all, and dear friends have no secrets.”
Langris looked momentarily angry, but said nothing. He simply rolled his eyes and went to Finral’s bedroom. It was a little disappointing for Vanessa. She had hoped he would’ve at least let slip a little more. She didn’t really have a good excuse to follow it up with anything. She’d just have to wait for Finral to come home, and hopefully get more details from him. If he’d be willing to talk about it.
It was actually several evenings later, when Vanessa and Finral shared a lovely dinner of take-out and cheap wine, that she decided to tackle the issue again. She had not seen anything happen between the brothers or Finesse, and she was curious if anything was happening. So, she began with a safe question.
“How’s Langris doing?”
“Oh, well,” Finral pondered, gulping down the food he had managed to put into his mouth just at that moment. “He’s good, I think. Nothing new since he last visited.”
“Mm, I see.”
“Funny that you are asking about Langris. You’ve never done that before.”
There was genuine suspicion on Finral’s face, even as he laughed. Vanessa smiled at him innocently.
“I was just curious. We had a little chat last Tuesday, when you were coming home,” she explained.
“Oh, right. What did you talk about?”
“Well–things.”
“That’s specific,” Finral commented in good humour.
“Agh, it’s difficult!” Vanessa complained. “I don’t know if I should say anything or not.”
“It’s something serious?”
“Yes, well - kind of.”
Finral took a long sip of his wine. He looked thoughtfully at his glass for a moment, then smiled.
“Lay it on me.”
“Are you sure?” Vanessa asked, worried by his reaction.
“Yeah, come on. Tell me.”
“Alright, well, he–no, let’s clear something up first. You like Finesse, right?” Vanessa started. “You love her, don’t you?”
Finral shook her head, but not as an answer. She could see him connecting the dots and trying to shake them off of him. His gaze didn’t leave the wine glass. The smile faded a bit. He didn’t answer, and so Vanessa continued.
“I’m asking because - because he does too. Langris. He didn’t say it outright, but he has at least a crush on her, I know that much. And I’ve talked to Finesse, I know how–”
“I know,” Finral interrupted her silently. “I know.”
Vanessa stared at him.
“You know?” she repeated. “What do you know?”
“I know that Langris likes Finesse, and that she likes him back. I’ve known for a while now. They meet up before they come to our place, you know, it was obvious. Langris would never slip anything, but Finesse, she - she would tell how they’d have been sitting in a cafe before that, or how they walked together, or things like that. I knew.”
His voice, though stable, conveyed a broken feeling that somehow resonated with Vanessa’s. He wasn’t crying, yet his posture and the vacant look in his eyes showed that he had given up. He hadn’t even tried to fight for it.
“I’m sorry,” Vanessa whispered, moving slightly closer to Finral.
He gave her a sad, lopsided smile, and she realized his eyes were blurring with tears. It hurt to see him like that.
“You should talk to them about it - later,” she said as she wrapped her arms around him.
Finral leaned his head towards her and sighed heavily. His body trembled once in an attempt to not cry.
“I’ll wish them happiness when I’ve got more strength,” he promised.
“I’ll be your strength,” Vanessa vowed quietly.
“Thanks.”
The next weeks saw a beginning and an end: Finesse and Langris began dating, slowly at first, and then after a few months they moved in together. Finral was outwardly supportive of them, but it took quite a few bottles and secretly shed tears next to Vanessa for him to get over Finesse. The wound couldn’t close, because Finesse and Langris were still a large part of their lives. The two of them weren’t slowpokes about it either. After having moved in, it only took two months for Langris to propose to Finesse. He said that she was the love of his life, the one that gave him the warmth he had been looking for in life. In return, he wanted to return that sentiment to her: to lift her up in life and make her happy. She accepted. That night Finral came home with quite a few bottles to “celebrate”. It was difficult to read whether he was sincere about it - because that was the worst thing, he might’ve genuinely been sincere about it - or whether he was faking it. Vanessa cooked the two of them a delicious meal and together they got plastered.
“I’m never getting anyone,” Finral sighed afterwards, the alcohol having reddened his cheeks.
He spoke incredibly clearly even when drunk.
“Still interested in Finesse?” Vanessa asked, her tone alarmed.
“Pfft,” Finral only spluttered. “Forget about that.”
“You’re lonely, when you’re here, with me?” she demanded.
Finral was lying on the sofa, with Vanessa leaning onto him slightly. They had been watching a movie. She hadn’t concentrated on it at all. She had just looked at Finral.
“Everyone just sees me as a friend.”
“You’re a kind person,” Vanessa stated. “Of course people wanna be close to you.”
“Yeah, but that’s what I mean. They just want to be my friend. Nothing more. No one wants to live with me.”
“I do.”
“That’s not what I–not like that! They don’t want to do all those things couples do. Like - like supporting each other when the going’s tough, to cuddle and kiss, that kind of stuff.”
“I do.”
As if to accentuate her words, Vanessa flopped to lie on top of Finral. He opened his arms and hugged her close.
“Come on,” Finral half-laughed, half-whined. “You know what I mean. No one wants to love me.”
“I do.”
A silence followed those words. Vanessa wasn’t looking at Finral. She could feel the mood change. It had suddenly gone from light-hearted to serious. She felt the alcohol burn in her veins, as suddenly her heart started beating faster. Had she slipped up?
“You are joking,” Finral finally said, his tone confused.
“No, come on, you,” Vanessa slurred slightly. “We already live together, we spend almost every day together. Why wouldn’t I love you? Why wouldn’t you date me?”
He laughed, perhaps a tad bit nervously. She waited for his answer, not turning her head towards him.
“I don’t - what? What are you saying?” he asked hesitantly.
“I’m saying we should date.”
“What if - what if it ruins it all?”
There was something somber in Finral’s voice, a sadness that permeated the thought. A fear.
“What if we start dating and we hate each other then?” he continued.
“Get out,” Vanessa nearly cussed. “You said it yourself. We live together already. We talk to each other about everything, we support each other, all that. What could go wrong if we bring love into it?”
“It’s a lot of something.”
“It doesn’t have to be.”
“Just - let’s not do this now. Let’s just take it easy.”
Vanessa leaned her head against Finral in silence for a moment and closed her eyes.
“We’ll take it easy. There’s no need for confessions of love. It’s just attraction and mutual–mutual attraction–and like–” she stammered a bit.
She was very tired. The alcohol was robbing her of her energy.
“Let’s just kiss and see where it goes,” she ended her sentence.
Finral laughed a bit. She could feel it in the way his chest rose a bit, the laughter rumbling inside. Yet the sound of the laugh itself was rather dry.
“Let’s,” he simply answered.
Vanessa’s eyes were closed, so she couldn’t see his expression. She didn’t move, and neither did he. They were both exhausted.
It was the last thing Vanessa remembered when she woke up from the sofa, still tangled up with Finral. Her back ached immensely as she pushed herself up, not to mention the headache. One was from the sofa, the other from the drinks. She had fallen asleep while waiting for him to continue. Drat. Hopefully he hadn’t said anything. Hopefully he had also fallen asleep quickly. It was possible. She got up, her muscles stiff from the horrible sleeping position. Vanessa navigated her way to the kitchen in hopes of fixing up some easy breakfast for herself. She picked eggs from the cupboard, failed to find bacon, and substituted it with some sausages left from last weekend. It’d be good enough. She cooked automatically enough for Finral as well - they usually ate similar breakfasts. She didn’t know quite how to take what had happened between them. Had her heart beat faster because she had been drunk, or did she feel something for him? Her headache intensified the more she thought about it.
Few minutes later Vanessa placed one portion of eggs and sausages on her plate and sat down to eat. She felt tense all over. Why had she said what she had? Was Finral really still sleeping, or just waiting for a chance to slip away from the awkward to-be-conversation? What should she say? She ate absentmindedly, forming potential versions in her mind. Eventually there was movement. Groggy, definitely half-asleep movement. Finral rose his head up with half-closed eyes and a grimace on his face. Evidently he was in pain as well from the night.
“Morning,” he muttered, not shying away from her gaze.
“There’s eggs,” Vanessa answered, nodding towards the kitchen.
All the versions she had crafted in her mind had already been eliminated. None of them started with ‘morning’.
“Thanks,” Finral said sleepily, and got up.
Vanessa browsed her phone as he ate in silence, and then she headed to shower. The feeling of yesterday was washed away. When she came back to the room, she had a feeling that Finral had been waiting for her to come back.
“Hey, I–” he started. “I wanted to talk about yesterday.”
“Yeah?”
“Were you serious?”
Her heart clenched in an uneasy way.
“Yes. Maybe.”
“Oh,” Finral paused for a moment. Then–then don’t you think we should figure this thing out?”
“What do you mean?”
“Let’s have a date.”
Vanessa looked at him with surprised eyes. He looked uncertain, unable to even smile. She laughed a little, involuntarily. Her head felt like all the stress was suddenly draining out of it.
“Sure,” she answered. “Let’s.”
Finral smiled brightly at her.
Well, that would be the first. Perhaps it would begin something completely new between them.
Or perhaps it would just strengthen what already was there.

Langris x Finesse--dear goodness do I love them! Just thinking of them rekindles my passion for Black Clover! Criminally underrated ship, in my opinion. I have an entire Spotify playlist about them, so I will admit it was a little hard to narrow it down. In the end I've decided on a Finesse song since I feel like most of the time when I ramble about this pairing it's always very Langris-centric (i.e. his feelings and his devotion for her) so I don't talk about Finesse's side of things too much. (Sorry Finesse). The song "A Quiet Thing" really captures how I imagine Finesse's love for Langris would develop as a very slow burn and dare I say "quiet thing" over time, really building on this quiet, steadfast devotion that endeared me to this pairing in the first place. I love this song for them since it's really about how some love (like the love I imagine Langris and Finesse would have for each other) is "a quiet thing," and even if it's not the flashy, grand "fireworks" kind of love we tend to think of from epics romances, it's still really beautiful in its own way.

And here's where the headcanons come in:
Langris and Finesse both are very "quiet" in the way they show their love, neither one of them are going to plan the big romantic gestures or have these huge over-the-top love confessions, but they are both very devoted and steadfast people. They love spending time together, really just enjoying each other's company in these everyday moments as they have tea or tend to her garden together. Langris might not have the romanticism of someone like say Finral (those big "band" or fireworks"), but he takes care of her. He listens to her and remembers all these little details about her and her life. He pulls weeds from her garden when she mentions she's worried about it but too ill to tend her garden herself. He surprises her with a few of her favorite flowers or her favorite soup when she's feeling down. It's in these moments that Finesse sees that despite his somewhat frosty exterior, Langris really does have this soft side and cares very deeply about "his people." It's his soft steadfastness and devotion to her that really leads her to really fall in love with him. And when she does, she is a little shy about it and skirts around the topic, but ultimately, she is the one to confess first.

As for the Altan & Ezio cousin friendship part of the ask... It's so wholesome and makes me so happy that you care about my oc enough to ask about him. I like to imagine they would get along well and be good and supportive cousins and friends for each other so perhaps a bit generic (but one of my all-time favorite songs) I've chosen "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor (the Carole King version is also excellent).

Related Headcanon:
As the older cousin, Ezio has always tried to look out for Altan, in a similar way to how Finral always tried to look out for Langris, but in this case, Altan has always felt comfortable coming to Ezio if he was ever in trouble or needed help. In return, Altan always tries to cheer Ezio up when he's feeling down (or heartbroken). He'll make a warm, comforting cup of tea for him (something he learned from his mother, Finesse) and is a great listener when/Ezio ever needs to talk about his troubles.

Hi there, Lyra! Sending you lots of love and well wishes! 💖 I hope it's okay to send in more than one BC opinions ask for you, but I saw you're closing them soon so I wanted to send this one in: what are your thoughts on the "House Vaude Soap Opera/Love Drama" (or the "Langris, Finesse, Finral, Vanessa (and whoever else you might want to throw in there) love shape")? I've got a love-hate relationship with it myself because while it is probably the subplot I'm the most passionately invested in (and that I've written about at length), but it feels so unnecessarily complicated and frustratingly convoluted and makes me want to bang my head against the wall more than Finral is (which, I am sorry to say, is saying a lot...)
Apologies for the Mini-Rant, but here are some of my feelings: they really threw it in with no warning in the Royal Knights Exam Arc after the anime baited Vanessa and Finral a lot, which is an anime problem but still the emotional whiplash of throwing love interest in there after all that and not only that but then the narrative expects us to accept that Finral not only actually loved Finesse all along but also loves her so much that he is willing to return to his toxic, abusive home in order to be with her (and we're all supposed to be okay with that?) despite the fact he didn't even think about her for 80 episodes and she is basically engaged to his brother (which, how is everyone involved in this just okay with the fact that they have this arranged marriage agreement but the Lord & Lady Vaude just won't say which son Finesse is actually engaged to? Surely Finesse's parents have concerns about this at least? Regardless, it's clear this is all for Langris's benefit since they want him/have always intended for him to inherit, but seriously (and maybe I'm just old fashioned but) brothers really shouldn't share a fiancée and if you're engaged you should probably know who your fiancé actually is... Why is no one bringing this up?) And it just kept getting worse & more convoluted from there since conveniently ignoring the fact that Finesse and Langris are basically engaged, Finral then declares "war" on his brother and kind of yells at both of them while Langris is injured that he's going to be the one to make Finesse happy & win her heart in the end and Langris seems to actually be helping(?) him with this [for reasons that are still unclear...? Though I personally suspect it's because he actually loves her (not necessarily in a romantic way but enough that he's willing to give up what he's worked for his entire life for her happiness)] and okay, yes, this is a soap opera but it's fine/forgivable if they just stopped it here BUT NO...THEN Finral keeps banging his head against the wall trying convince everyone (and himself???) that she's "the only one" for him and that he can't even be in the same room as another woman and needs to go back to his abusive home just to be with her... 🙄 Bringing up so many uncomfortable questions like "does he actually love her or does he just feel like he needs to/is he forcing himself to in order to become the head of House Vaude and prove himself to his family? ect. ect. which, I'm sorry, but if a story wants to sell me on "Character A's love for Character B is so incredibly strong that they are willing to even return to their toxic home life in order for the two of them to be together" these questions should NOT exist! Don't get me wrong, I like Finral x Finesse as a ship (It's totally adorable and has so much potential--I actually really like it a lot which is why this is so frustrating), but I just feel like it could have been handled SO MUCH BETTER which is honestly kind of infuriating. Anyway, I'm very curious what you think and how you'd most like to see that all shake out in the end? (I know you've paired Finral with Vanessa in COTF but what do you imagine happens to Langris? Which one takes over the estate? Do you think Finral and Finesse ever tried to make it work but it just didn't work out? ect.). Hiya Acacia! I'm sorry it's taken me a while to get to this 😭, I've been playing catch up on everything while also doing some IRL things 😆, but now to answering your question!
The Finral x Finesse ship was totally sudden to me, and I'll admit I was very taken aback and a bit upset about it 😆! Because the anime was leaning and hinting at Finral x Vanessa so much (I mean, when he blushed and teared up at her complimenting him during the Royal Knight Exam hello???) that I was already sold on the ship. But then...Finesse came along and kind of threw me off and made me go "wait what?"
I think Finesse, and her introduction, should/could have been handled much better then it was. If they would have hinted at him having someone else he loved back at House Vaude, or even just had him say "I want to get stronger, because I have someone waiting/depending on me" then I would have been a little more...okay with them introducing Finesse as his love interest (btw I like Finesse as a character, I'm putting all the blame on the writing and how they chose to introduce her!). But because it was just kinda thrown in there like "oh btw, we forgot to mention Finral has a love interest so all the teasing we did for Finral x Vanessa was just to misdirect you 😆!".
As you can see...I'm still pretty salty about this 😅!
Now onto the drama with House Vaude and the engagment 👀!
I personally don't like the whole "both share a fiance" thing either, it just feels...wrong 😅. I understand this used to be a thing Royal Families did in history (basically if the elder broher was dead or otherwise incapacitated then sometimes the family would have her marry the younger brother) but it still doesn't feel right 😭! I think the Vaudes probably had the engagment between Finral and Finesse planned out since they were little/babies, but then they realized Langris was more powerful and thought more like them than Finral and so they felt it was better if Finesse married Langris.
I feel like the reason Finral would want to go back to House Vaude is a lot deeper then just maybe being with Finesse. Maybe he wants to change House Vaude and make it better? Make it more accepting and less greedy? I dunno. I'll admit it does feel...like he's trying to convince himself in some instances when he's banging his head against a wall and saying that he only loves Finesse 😅, I know it's played up for laughs, but still 😅.
Finral x Finesse does have a lot of potential! I could easily see the two of them together (even though I prefer Finral x Vanessa), i just think they could have handled it a lot better then they have. I personally think Langris and Finesse are a little more suited for each other, because she softens his rough edges and makes him a better person and helps him grow, and I don't really see her doing that with Finral, but that's just me 😅!
I agree, it should have been handled a lot better, but...it is what it is (luckily we have fanon that can fix it 😌!). Now onto how I seeing it all play out!
I personally see it playing out as Finral and Finesse getting together, but they both leave the Vaude estate and let Langris have it. Why? Because Finral only ever wanted to repair his relationship with his brother and win the love of his life's heart (fairly ofc), he never wanted the house. He was willing to take it on for Finesse's sake, but it wasn't his goal if that makes sense 😆! I can see Finral and Finesse dating and it not working out, or I can see them getting married and having children! Honestly it could go either way 🤔.
In COTF I have it where Finral realizes that the love he felt for Finesse was no longer a romantic one, but more of a friend/familial love. Now she'll always have a special place in his heart as his first love, but now his heart belongs to someone else (Vanessa).

So, yeah... Both make sense and both compels me 🤩
For Rill x Charmy, what can I say? Just look at them, they're so adorable! I already loved them both individually and together, they're just so perfect. They're both so passionate about their respective hobbies (painting & cooking), have fascinating magic and the vibes are just cuteness overload for me. So, yes, I really love them and I would love if they would become canon.
As for Finral x Finesse, kinda a funny story actually. I admit that Finesse was introduced rather late (and I support everyone who ships her with Langris and Finral with someone else), but I was on board rather quick. On one hand, I shipped Finral with no one before Finesse was introduced, so there's that. On the other hand, I loved how kind Finesse was to him and how kind she was in general to anyone, even too Langris. I just loved her from the start and I thought that she is wonderful for Finral.

I’m just SO BUSY. I’m in my first year of college and I’m studying film production which uses all of my creative energy. Also I’m taking too many credits (according to my mom loll) and have a job. I rarely feel motivated to create in the free time I do have simply because I need to use that time to relax and process everything changing so quickly. It’s been a crazy transition for me! Luckily this summer will be much less hectic and I’m taking a lighter class load in the fall, so I’m hoping I can put more energy towards writing in the near future!

I’m going to have to go with Finesse and Langris for this one. I have a headcanon that Finral stops trying to return to house Vaude and Langris and Finesse are engaged again, but she initially refuses to marry Langris and he has to earn her love.
I love this because Finesse is a character who is constantly robbed of agency. It must be so frustrating to always be passed back and forth between these two guys without any say in the matter, but she always chooses to be kind and understanding. I want her to chose the opposite for once!
It satisfies Langris’s arc as well because his fundamental problem is he doesn’t understand love that isn't transactional; he doesn't understand that the way to be loved is just to be kind and care about others. I want him to learn that lesson for Finesse and be patient with her even when she isn’t being her most perfect self.

who are your top ten favorite black clover characters and relationships (platonic or romantic)? talk about them!
Heya anon! I’ll go with the top 10 BC relationships. Covering both platonic and romantic. I’ll put these instead of individual characters because you’ll also see which characters I like. You want me to talk about it and you shall receive my babbling.
Platonic
10. Julius with his sons Yami/William
I would joke a lot about how Julius is a dad but I think he really has a wholesome platonic bond with his adoptive kids. Firstly Julius quickly took in Yami, who is an outsider, made an effort on teaching him the language, and gave him some purpose as someone who had to survive living in a foreign land. If Julius didn’t find him, I think Yami would settle living on the coast. He would be known as some weirdo fisherman. Second, for William he also reached out to him and gave him an opportunity to live differently. Julius made and gave William his iconic mask.
Headcanon: People used to look away from William because of his scarred face but now he gains attention because of one flashy gold mask. It took some time for him to get used to being stared at.
9. Dad Yami & Black bulls
Another dad & kids? Yami may be rough but he doesn't give missions the kids can’t handle. He knows just when to step in once something life threatening happens. He cares and wants his rowdy kids to be more responsible. And what I really like with the Black bulls is Asta and how he does errands without question. Asta is the most responsible of the bunch. Yes, he does the cleaning, does the pet feeding, and the toilet paper replacing.
-The seabed temple arc can be summarized as; Dad takes his kids on a field trip, it goes horribly wrong because the bad guys messed with the wrong family.
8. Charlotte & Sol
Even though Charlotte keeps correcting Sol's 'nee-san' she doesn't really get mad. I find it cute. *whispers* Charlotte actually likes being called nee-san🤭.
7. Julius & Marx
I like just how tired Marx is with Julius' antics. It is also amusing how significantly younger Marx is than Julius and yet their roles are reversed. Marx is the responsible adult and Julius the irresponsible kid. But! Marx is 25 and Julius is 42, that’s a 17 years age difference. So you can see how Julius has placed a huge trust to have Marx as his advisor who is basically a ‘kid’ to him. Also their scene after the elf arc is touching.
6. Mereo/Fuego/Leopold
I love the lion siblings. I mean they are so ‘fiery’. Heh, heh… Fire literally runs through their veins and it shows individually and with their sibling moments. Leo leans closer and relates a lot to his big bro Fuego. But Leo respects his older sister a lot although she can be very ruthless with her training. Meanwhile the only thing I would say for Mereo and Fuego is that they are BOILING HOT.
5. Yuno & Asta
I like them as bros. Yuno stopped being a crybaby because of Asta. Also them competing on who donates more money to the church… Good kids you two🤧😭.
Romantic
4. Finral x Finesse
You can do it Finral ! You can overcome your curse! Langris lowkey wants them to be together but Finral has to prove himself worthy first.
3. Grey x Gauche
I like the reveal of Grey wanting to overcome her struggles after meeting Gauche. Though I still can't see them in scenes too romantic. More of inspiring each other to grow and become stronger. These two need a bit more character development, esp. Grey.
2. Yami x Charlotte
I don't ship them heavily but their scenes in the anime are something I find so hilarious. Charlotte's screaming “Yami!” after the elf incident gets me every time.
AND FINALLY FOR
Number 1. Lumiere x Secre
Surprise, surprise! Woe is Whack to love such a sad, sad ship. As someone who loves the Faust tragedy did anyone see this coming? This one takes the cake because I must confess for also having a thing towards Master x Servant dynamics. My talk here is long for being my top 1.
Personal HCs incoming, buckle up!
-Lumire did eventually view and love Secre as a woman rather than as a servant. But he held back on his feelings for her as to not create any issues among the royals. Because remember that Lumiere is already viewed as an oddball and I'm sure Lumiere knows what people think about him.
-This man can sew! And did you see the dress he made for her? It was so cute and also far more revealing than Secre's servant clothes. He wants to see her in a cute dress. You sneaky prince!
-Secre during her days as a servant and assistant did not think of Lumiere as a romantic interest and only respected him as her master (not that Secre would also dare think of his prince as any more than a master). However, it was only when he battled demon Licht did she realize how much she cared for him. When she sees him bleeding after and attempts to save him, Secre admits to herself that; Yeah, she does love him so much that she would use forbidden magic to save the prince.
-Sadly, Secre during the present time is only left to reminisce about the past. The anime showed how she still finds the time to offer flowers where she sealed him. *sobs*
-Secre keeps the dress he made using her magic. As in either would seal it somewhere or preserved via sealing magic. She will treasure it forever.

I definitely think Asta x Noelle and Yami x Charlotte will become a thing. Finral and Finesse are also have a big chance of happening, but Yana may keep it as Langris and Finesse.
