Blood Simple (1985) - Joel & Ethan Coen (4.5/5)

You spend a lot of time in this film just waiting for that last bullet to show up, but you also see the Coens sharpening their teeth and are so ready to take on the film world, albeit in a more dialogue-heavy manner in the years to come.

Summer films 2017

Alright, I went to the theatre yesterday to see BABY DRIVER with two friends from work. The movie is a classic and polished Edgar Wright putting together possibly the most successful film of his career commercially and critically. That last part is definitely debatable, I still need atleast a second viewing before I can put my balls on the line like that. Anyway the soundtrack was great, I actually liked ansel elgort, the cast was on point for the most part. Jaime foxx got a little annoying fast. The fact that all the driving sequences were all practical without the use of cgi and or greenscreens should be reason enough to put this on your list of films to watch. As it stands right now 9/10 go see BABY DRIVER.

Earlier this week I finally saw OKJA, after waiting almost a year to see it (I worked on the film last summer) and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know what to think of it when I was working on it, the concept sounded crazy at first but director Joon-Ho Bong is a calculated filmmaker who knows when to and when not to focus on detail. The film tells a heart warming, almost “modern day e.t” of a story centred around a young girl and a giant hippo/pig hybrid named OKJA. See, it sounds too wild but trust me, give it a chance. You will either love or hate Jake Gyllenhaal, I was on the love side, he’s eccentric and you can see the man is having a blast playing dr. Johnny Wilcox, the slightly odd and completely whacky animal lover. OKJA get’s a 8/10. Stay after the credits

I, Tonya (2017) - Craig Gillespie (4.5/5)

While there’s some very obvious computer-assisted skating spins and characters speaking directly to camera outside the framing device of the main story, Robbie excels as history’s most infamous skater here, along with Janney as what’s going to go down as one of film history’s worst moms and Stan playing a version of Jeff Gillooly so meek, you wouldn’t believe he was ever the Winter Soldier (or abused Harding in real life, possibly to the film’s detriment.) Newcomer McKenna Grace also has an all-too-brief scene as the younger version of Harding, and Bobby Canavale pops up a few times as a producer for Hard Copy with a so-bad-it’s-good look to him you wish he had more screentime too.
