I don’t want to dog anyone for their spiritual beliefs...
However...
The idea that the divine divides and aligns itself with the “masculine” or the “feminine” reinforces gender roles and patriarchy.
The “divine masculine” is the go-getter, the leader, the protector, the warrior. The “divine feminine” is the nurturer, the caretaker, and the healer. The fact so many people are surprised that those crunchy, “spiritual” types-- who all believe in this notion-- all turn out to be fucking far-right is baffling. Of course they are! The whole idea of the “divine masculine” and “divine feminine” is predicated on the notion that gender isn’t just essential to human nature, but that it extends to the divine as well.
I’m choosing pretty deliberately not to talk about terfs because I just don’t have to. They are dumb. Their ideas are dumb. They aren’t feminists, they’re just fascists.
The divine is so much more than these silly, human concepts. The divine is everything and nothing like us. Of course, aspects that are usually associated with “femininity” or “masculinity” appear in aspects of the divine, but you are really foolish if you think that those aspects make up the entirety of God.
