More about the Hamas figures on fatalities in Gaza that everyone keeps quoting, as if antisemitic genocidal terrorists are a reliable source of information... (the part about the men coming back to life is particularly revealing)

And more on the figures regarding the scale of destruction...

The funniest thing about the new Mortal Kombat game is that they have made a continuity where it no longer makes sense for everyone to be performing fatalities on each other.
Everyone is so nice to each other in Liu Kang's timeline and half of them are close friends. A good chunk of the pre-fight banter is just them shooting the shit or having very wholesome interactions. Then the fighting starts and they go back to breaking limbs and gory murdering.
The dissonance is amazing.

Almost six months into the invasion, Russian losses keep going past significant milestones.
Russia has now lost more than 6,000 armored vehicles. That’s 1,899 main battle tanks + 4,195 armored personnel carriers. The grand total is actually 6,094.
Russia has lost over 1,000 artillery units. Considering that this has become an artillery war to a large extent, we can see why the Russian attempts to advance in the east have stagnated.
And Russian troop losses are through the roof. For the sake of comparison, the 44,700 dead is way over 36,516 American dead in the Korean War but still under the 58,220 US total for the Vietnam War.
In perspective, the 44,700 Russian dead exceeds the populations of ten US state capitals:
Montpelier VT •••• 8,074
Pierre SD •••• 14.091
Augusta ME •••• 18,899
Frankfort KY •••• 28,602
Helena MT •••• 32,091
Juneau AK •••• 32,255
Dover DE •••• 39,403
Annapolis MD •••• 40,812
Jefferson City, MO •••• 43,228
Concord, NH •••• 43,976
If losses at this rate continue to the first anniversary of the war, they may equal the population of Trenton, NJ (90,871).
Putin shut down what remained of Russia’s free press to stifle criticism of the war. You can even be jailed for calling it a “war”. Russians are force-fed media diets of outright lies about the war via state-run TV and censored internet. Only a small number of Russians with VPNs have a clear idea of the carnage.
Putin’s bizarre delusion of bringing back the boundaries and hegemony of the USSR is what’s driving this war. Somebody in Russia needs to overthrow Putin to put the country on the road to sanity.

Far be it from me to say that moral panics in any way make sense, but it's still funny in hindsight how much of a moral panic there was over the Mortal Kombat fatalities, because a lot of these are really silly.

Minneapolis police say they’re investigating a car crash that left 5 dead. They say a speeding driver exited 35W where it went through a red light hitting another vehicle. A traffic camera shows the vehicle and what appears to be a State Trooper exiting at a high rate of speed.

Floods were estimated to be the costliest disaster from Asian countries including China and India. China lost $18.4 billion due to floods, followed by India ($3.2 billion) and Thailand ($0.6 billion). India lost $4.4 billion due to storms, followed by China $3 billion and Japan $2 billion. In 2021, over 80 per cent of the extreme events were floods and storms. Floods in India, China and Afghanistan caused the greatest number of fatalities, highlighting the high level of vulnerability of Asia, especially to floods. In India, during the monsoon season, the heavy rain and flash floods resulted in about 1,300 human deaths, the report cited.

32 killed, 147 injured in blast at mosque in Peshawar Police Lines Area
A blast inside a mosque shook Peshawar’s Police Lines area on Monday, with officials saying that at least 32 people were killed and 147 were injured.
...
The outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the blast.
...
[Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Ijaz] Khan said between 300 to 400 police personnel were present in the area at the time of the blast.
Peshawar lies on the historic Grand Trunk Road that connects the city to Islamabad, 184 km to the East, and Lahore and also provides access to the Afghan border via the Khyber Pass, with onward connections to Kabul, which lies 284 km to the West. Yesterday, it was reported that 10 children had died in a mass drowning when their boat capsized on a lake near Kohat, approximately 70 km due south of Peshawar.

If you ask me, I personally believe Mortal Kombat should branch off of their theme from the last game and just make their own brutal fighting game based off of ridiculous characters and icons from the 80’s.
I’m calling it now; the australian guy from the Energizer commercials is the overpowered character nobody wants to fight against.

I really, really appreciate your posts. I've been wondering, since Hamas' numbers are obviously bogus, what do you think would be an actual accurate count or estimation of the true civilian deaths in Gaza? All the love to you <3
Hi Nonnie, thank you so much for the kind words! <333
I honestly don't know, and I don't think anyone can know. Because there's not a single factor in Gaza, which has access to all areas, and has had that the entire time, and could reliably estimate how many people were killed when, and how many of them are actually terrorists. The IDF's number of terrorists is also possibly an underestimate. Just look at how long it took the army to confirm that one Hamas senior terrorist, Marwan Issa, was killed. It took weeks, and that's when we're talking about someone who's important enough that both sides had eyes on him. What's worse, by the time the war is over and the dust has settled, it may be impossible to investigate this even in retrospect. If it ends with a ceasefire imposed on Israel, with Hamas still existing and ruling Gaza, then we'll def never know the real number of fatalities.
I've heard different, even contradicting theories on how many people have been killed. Some (most credible sources I've heard) think the Hamas numbers are too high, some say they're too low (I very much doubt this one, based on everything we know of Hamas and their fake numbers regarding incidents like the al-Ahli hospital), some say the total number might be right, but out of it, the number of women and children is inflated. I think that last part, with the women and kids, is probably true whatever the real numbers are. If you take someone like urban warfare expert John Spencer, he believes the ratio of civilians and terrorists might be 1:1, so if Israel has killed some 13,000 terrorists, that would suggest about the same number of civilians (some of which were themselves killed by Gazan terrorists), and a total of 26,000 fatalities, which is about 5 to 6 thousands less people killed than Hamas is claiming.
At the end of the day, I think the most important part really is how many uninvolved people were killed (not what the total number is), because I personally will not grieve for the genocidal terrorists who perpetrated and celebrated and enabled the massacre we saw on Oct 7. And it's even more important to determine how many of those uninvolved fatalities were actually killed by or because of Hamas and PIJ terrorists. I expect that the number of uninvolved accidentally killed only because of Israel is actually really low.
I know this is probably not a satisfying answer, but I hope it still helps in some way! xoxox

“but what about separating the art from the artist” buddy. listen to me. joanne kathleen rowling is relevant for one reason and one reason only—she wrote harry potter. that’s why she’s famous. that is the bedrock of her fucking platform. jk rowling is the harry potter lady and harry potter is the jk rowling guy. this is not the same thing as listening to a song on repeat even though the keyboardist was an asshole, or reading a novel by some dude who sucked ideological shit in the 1800s. jk rowling has a hate platform right now, today, and she sustains it off of harry potter bucks. u will forgive me if i am unwilling to advertise for her

Russia has passed a grim milestone. About 1 in 5,000 of all Russians who were alive on February 23rd have died in the current war.
Russia has an estimated population of 142,021,981 – (source: The World Fact Book). With its own death toll of 28,500 from the Ukraine invasion, that means 1 out of every 4,983 Russian citizens has died in this unnecessary catastrophe.
On the average, this means that every medium-small town or every urban neighborhood has lost one person in Putin’s conflict. Most likely, everybody knows somebody or knows a person who knows somebody who was killed or seriously wounded in the so called “special operation”.
28,500 is a lot of people.
28,500 is greater than the number of active duty military personnel in many countries including Serbia, Tanzania, Hungary, Norway, and Portugal.
28,500 is greater than the population of the capitals of three US states: Vermont, South Dakota, and Maine. It’s also quickly closing in on Frankfort, Kentucky.
28,500 is about half of the death toll for US military in the Vietnam War (1955-1975). At the current rate, Russia will match the US Vietnam fatalities around August 11th; 24 weeks instead of 20 years.
More recently, 28,500 is almost double the 14,453 Soviet troops killed in the 9+ year Soviet-Afghan War.
For some visual representation, 28,500 is the seating capacity of A.W. Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge.

So this would be a good time for Russia to reflect on the losses it has sustained and the probable losses it will continue to sustain if this needless war is not ended.
