2024 Jan. 22
On this day in 1987, protesters led by Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) marched to Mendiola waving their banners and placards, calling for genuine land reform, a campaign promise of late President Cory Aquino who replaced ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Instead of heeding their democratic demand, militant farmers were met with bullets from state forces. The protest turned into a violent dispersal that took the lives of 13 defenseless farmers and came to be known as the Mendiola Massacre.
The bloody dispersal was followed by decades marked with countless massacres and human rights violations against farmers. These attacks are rationalized by tagging civilian farmers as members of the New People’s Army, a vicious tale as old as time told by state forces to drown voices of dissent.
Farmers in the countryside remain landless, with 9 in every 10 farmers tilling land they do not own. With no land of their own to till, farmers are held captive by big landlords and agribusiness that employ them at extremely low wages, essentially trapping them in a cycle of poverty.
2022 Jan. 22
"Today, the generals responsible for the death of 13 peasant activists remain very much alive in the political scene, some of them are even coddled by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and hold several high positions in the bureaucracy," [Rafael Mariano, 47, one of the survivors of Mendiola Massacre] added.
Those who died in Mendiola 17 years ago and honored by peers as martyrs are: Danilo Arjona, Leopoldo Alonzo, Adelfa Aribe, Dionisio Bautista, Roberto Caylao, Vicente Campomanes, Ronilo Dumanico, Dante Evangelio, Angelito Gutierrez, Rodrigo Grampan, Bernabe Laquindanum, Sonny Boy Perez and Roberto Yumul.

Corn Syrup C6h14o7
To show it, try this yummy Cantaloupe Sherbet with a ripe just-picked melon from your native farmers' market. If you're still questioning about whether or not or not corn syrup in beer — or any food product, really — is a problem, we have got solutions. Keep reading to seek out out the reality about corn syrup and your well being. When moist milled, about 2.3 litres of corn are required to yield an average of 947g of starch, to provide 1 kg of glucose syrup. In contrast, golden syrup is thicker and has very deep caramelized, buttery, and complicated taste notes. This article will explore high fructose corn syrup, together with its manufacturing process and health concerns. In this text, we look at the use of Karo syrup as a constipation treatment for adults and kids. There are a few different sorts of Karo syrup, however the main kind in this article is regular corn syrup somewhat than mild or dark corn syrup. There is a lot of confusion in regards to the composition of HFCS, which is different than generic corn syrup and table sugar. Numerous halal corn syrup sellers guarantee you of cheap costs for the best high quality of the products. Corn syrup sinks within the water and varieties a layer beneath it. When stirred, the corn syrup mixes in with the water and eventually dissolves. Pour 1 tablespoon of alcohol, oil, or corn syrup into its labeled cup. Four lemon sorbets with equal sweetness, however made with totally different quantities of corn syrup and sugar. Honey is comparable to corn syrup on the nutrient aspect . corn syrup in bulk Other mesophilic bacteria may be present but won't grow in these products. Osmotolerant yeasts current the larger danger for spoilage. In our experience, heat-resistant mildew spores could be current in liquid sucrose and high fructose corn syrup and might contribute to the spoilage of beverages the place these sweeteners are used. Many individuals don’t understand that corn syrup, just like the one in the clear bottle on the grocery store cabinets, is simply a sugar that has been extracted from corn and processed right into a liquid kind. Corn syrup off the shelf is pure glucose, whereas some of the glucose in HFCS has been transformed to fructose via a chemical process. That makes it much sweeter than corn syrup or regular table sugar. To revisit this recipe, visit My Account, thenView saved recipes. Corn syrup is on the market in the baking aisle of the supermarket. Danilo Alfaro has printed greater than 800 recipes and tutorials targeted on making sophisticated culinary techniques approachable to home cooks. I made this and used a small portion of it it for a recipe. 12 Ordinary corn syrup accommodates dextrose sugar which is about three-quarters as sweet because the sucrose sugar in cane or beet sugar. In many sweetener applications this is a bonus as a result of it doesn't overpower the opposite flavors within the food. Er, in some functions, corresponding to delicate drinks, a sweeter style is desired. To enhance the sweetness of odd corn syrup, it undergoes an extra process known as enzyme conversion. This produces a high fructose corn syrup with a 42% fructose content material. Liquid sweeteners similar to sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup are commonly used as components in many meals especially in drinks. I want to assist you to bake with confidence anytime, wherever with my trusted and examined recipes and baking ideas. You could have seen one of my 500+ videos on YouTube & TikTok or as a visitor choose on Nailed It! On Netflix or the Best Baker in America on Food Network. If many crystals are massive, the ice cream shall be perceived as being coarse or icy. Primarily fructose and dextrose with lesser portions of higher sugars. Corn syrups are outlined as having a DE of 20 or larger. Below DE 20, the products are referred to as maltodextrins. With all these alternatives at your disposal, you may never reach for the corn syrup again. As with butter, the fat in cream can effectively disrupt the formation of sugar crystals. Syrups are additionally used as a binder in semi-solid or highly concentrated meals, corresponding to some meat products, where it's permitted by requirements. Two parts by dry weight of corn syrup have a reducing energy equivalent to one part by dry weight of dextrose, the corn syrup would have a dextrose equivalent of fifty. For producing liquid glucose, raw materials like corn and rice are used to produce the starch. As it is a natural sweetener so, it accommodates sugar in definite proportion. The syrup is basically utilized for food dressing or as a baking materials. It is metabolized to fats within the body much more quickly than any other sugar form and since most fructose is consumed in liquid kind, its adverse metabolic results are considerably magnified. There are healthier options to high fructose corn syrup. However, the overall recommendation is to eat any added sugars carefully, as they could all have unwanted facet effects. This sweetener comes from a succulent native to Mexico, generally known as the agave plant. You would possibly recognize the name of the plant, as it’s also harvested to make tequila.

Onion crisis blamed on DA forecasting failures
December 26, 2022 | 7:42 pm
THE ONION shortage has been blamed on the failure of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to adequately project supply and demand for the commodity, resulting in a delay in turning to imports.
Danilo V. Fausto, president of the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc. (PCAFI), told reporters recently: “We failed to import, so that is why we are short of supply. Naturally, there was a transfer of leadership so maybe they did not notice that.”
Mr. Fausto said that during holidays, demand spikes for many commodities, which should have been anticipated and planned for.
“During Christmas season the demand doubles, sometimes triples because of… celebrations and parties left and right. That’s the time that you have to really prepare for, and you prepare for it for a year,” he said.
Mr. Fausto said that this year, the shortage is estimated at about 40,000 to 50,000 metric tons. He added imports should have ordered in July and August to meet current demand.
“We did not import. Naturally, the supply is low and that is why the prices go up. There is no such thing as hoarding of onions,” he said.
Mr. Fausto added that onions tend have a short shelf life. “if you keep onions in cold storage for long, you cannot sell it, simply because of the nature of the product.”
The DA has cited hoarding as a possible cause for high prices.
Mr. Fausto also warned that “farmers are now planting onions because of the price, and it will take three months to harvest.”
He expects a bumper harvest by April, which the government must prepare for with more cold storage.
“If the government will not put up (cold storage), by April we will be throwing onions away,” Mr. Fausto said. — Ashley Erika O. Jose

PCAFI: ‘AgriFood Hub’ to reinforce sustainable food cost chain
Tumblr media
The Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Inc. (Pcafi) is banking on its AgriFood Hub Project that is a cutting-edge market-link tool in general geared toward similarly developing a sustainable meals fee chain within the u . S ..
Pcafi currently cast a partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) and Air21 Global to put in force a clever food cost chain software that aims to “guarantee food protection in the new ordinary.” For its element, Pcafi can be running thru its on-line platform AgriFood Hub.
“This is a milestone with a view to simply support the cooperation among DoST and Pcafi to heighten meals manufacturing, processing and lengthening the shelf lifestyles of nearby meals, reaping rewards our contributors and for country wide intake. It will also allow us to put into effect precision agriculture and digital agriculture,” stated Pcafi President Danilo Fausto in a digital standard club meeting of the organization on Friday.
He stated the collaboration covers food production, food processing, logistics supply chain, sources management structures and clever retailing structures.
“(We may be using) clever technologies which include smarter strategies to reinvigorate agriculture as an industry within the Philippines to expand a sustainable food fee chain within the Philippines, and artificial intelligence to manner data throughout the cost chain may be used in the mission,” Fausto stated.
Fausto explained AgriFood Hub’s primary intention is “to develop a sustainable meals fee chain within the united states from farm to companies,” noting Pcafi may be pushing for “successive coordinated” fee-including sports that produce uncooked agricultural substances and rework them into food products that are offered to consumers.
For his component, Pcafi Chairman Philip Ong stated AgriFood Hub changed into additionally inspired by means of “farmers dumping their harvest” at some stage in the early days of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disorder 2019 pandemic. The software includes integrating farming with markets, financing, technologies and logistics, he brought.
“Our assignment is meant to complement with all of these. AgriFood Hub will cognizance to provide extra resources for processors, wholesalers and buyers. (It) pursuits to clear up the lack of supply in quantity on the proper time to fill our processing lines and could want more farmers to provide extra effectively for us,” Ong said.
The AgriFood Hub mission promises to provide actual-time market data and get right of entry to to wide segment of agricultural commodities with established farmers and data of what merchandise they could provide.
According to Ong, customers also can get the fine expenses through efficient marketplace matching as a way to additionally assist farmers maximize their productiveness.
Pcafi represents 42 energetic agricultural sectors composed of various agriculture-based associations, cooperatives, foundations and commodity champions. It has also robust alliance with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization, Coalition for Agricultural Modernization, and the Agri-Fishery Alliance.

[Image ID: Two photos, side by side, of two Filipino men. Jorge Coronacion is on the left; Arnold Buri is on the right. End ID.]
Two coconut farmers were reportedly killed by the Philippine military on Nov. 17, a report of a human rights group read.
Jorge Coronacion, 64, and Arnold Buri, 43, were killed while on their way home to Taquico village in Sampaloc, Quezon, a province south of Manila. The Philippine Army has since claimed it was an “armed encounter” with members of the New People’s Army but human rights group Karapatan-Southern Tagalog was told by local residents that there was no exchange of fire heard in the neighborhood.
The group also noted signs of torture in the remains of the two farmers – one of them a senior citizen and with a  disability due to his sight problems.
Local government officials such as the town’s vice mayor and village chief, have said in their respective pronouncements that the people should be vigilant on the possible spate of killings even claiming that both were farmers and not NPA members.
In a statement, farmers group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemned the killings of the two farmers and the red-tagging of the two even after their death.
“This is a clear case of extrajudicial killing justified as a fake encounter by state forces. It puts the number of peasant victims of EJKs under the Duterte regime at 344,” KMP chairperson Danilo Ramos said.
KMP said that the 59th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, who said that the two were killed in an encounter, is also the same group behind the forced and fake surrenderees in Quezon province, using coconut farmers.
More lies and more search for truth
The military claimed to have recovered what Karapatan found to be an overwhelming number of items for two people. These purportedly include one .45 caliber pistol, seven rifle grenades, two fragmentation grenades, seven commercial radios, two M14 magazines, medical kits, foods, a sack of rice, a flag of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and even personal belongings.
The military, in a statement, also thanked the Barangay Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict for its collaboration. The BTF-ELCAC is the village-level formation of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
“The NTF-ELCAC blatantly tags unarmed civilians and their organizations as armed combatants. They are essentially urging military action against civilians. This further begs the question, how many innocent civilians have died helplessly in the thousands of so-called encounters the army has claimed to have occurred?” Ramos asked, demanding the defunding and abolition of the government’s counterinsurgency arm...
Spate in attacks against coconut farmers
The seeming spate of attacks against coconut farmers came following the dismissal of six civil charges against the late Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. over the coco levy funds...
“Red and terror tagging has been an easy excuse for the military to cover for its many atrocities. While the military focuses its most vicious attacks against us farmers who build organizations to defend our rights, those unorganized become its victims too,” said Ramos.
It can be recalled that the 2020 report of Global Witness revealed that the Philippines is still among the worst countries for environmental and land defenders, consisting mainly of farmers, indigenous groups, and rural people. The dangers were recognized to come from violent crackdowns from state forces such as police and military.

Dar enjoys Duterte’s trust, confidence: Palace
#PHnews: Dar enjoys Duterte’s trust, confidence: Palace
MANILA – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar continues to enjoy President Rodrigo Duterte’s trust and confidence, Malacañang said on Tuesday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque issued the statement in an online press briefing, amid calls for Dar’s resignation due to DA’s supposed failure to address concerns over rising food prices in the markets.
“Sa pagre-resign, may tiwala pa rin po ang ating Presidente kay Secretary Dar. Sa lahat po ng mga member ng Cabinet (On calls for resignation, the President still trusts Secretary Dar. All Cabinet members), we continue to work or remain in our duties for as long as the President has full trust and confidence in us,” Roque said.
Calls for Dar’s resignation mounted following the surge in prices of pork products and his alleged slow response to the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak.
Nicanor Briones, vice president for Luzon of the Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines, in February sought Duterte’s intervention as he accused Dar of allegedly “favoring” importers and smugglers over local traders.
Also last month, Danilo Ramos, chairperson of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, claimed that Dar is behind the “worsening” state of domestic agriculture and farmers in the country.
Dar earlier said it is “unfair” to ask him to quit his post, saying his agency has already implemented several measures to address the rising prices of pork products.
Meantime, Senator Panfilo Lacson exposed Monday the so-called “tongpats” (kickback) scheme prevailing in the country’s meat importation system.
Lacson, citing information from a “highly placed source”, disclosed during Monday’s plenary session that certain Agriculture officials are getting PHP5 to PHP7 per kilogram of imported pork.
He warned that the unscrupulous DA officials could earn up to PHP6 billion, once the proposed increase in the minimum access volume (MAV) for imported pork to as much as 400,000 metric tons of pork from the current 54,00 metric tons is approved.
Roque is confident that Duterte would call for an investigation into the alleged “tongpats” modus.
“Tignan po natin kung may katotohanan iyan. I’m sure since nilabas po iyan eh paiimbestigahan po iyan ng ating Presidente (Let’s see if there’s truth to that. I’m sure since that has been revealed, the President will order an investigation),” he said.
The Senate adopted Monday a resolution, urging Duterte to declare a state of national calamity due to the severe impact of ASF on the hog industry.
Roque said the Palace is still awaiting the DA’s recommendation on the proposal to declare a state of emergency.
“We welcome that po and as I said, dina-draft na po ng DA ang communication sa Malacañang (We welcome the Senate’s move and as I said, the DA is already the drafting the communication that will be transmitted to Malacañang),” he said.
Following concerns over the rising food prices in the country, DA is set to hold a food security summit with local government units and the private sector to craft a plan to ensure food security amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
On Feb. 1, Duterte inked Executive Order 124 which imposes a price ceiling of PHP270 per kilo for pork kasim and pigue, PHP300 per kilo for pork liempo, and PHP160 per kilo for dressed chicken.
Malacañang also announced on Feb. 17 that the government would allow the importation of pork products if the supply remains insufficient. (PNA)

Can Australia Grow Its Consumption of Locally Produced Coffee?
Australia has a well-established specialty coffee scene, characterised by independent cafés and high coffee consumption levels. In fact, it’s estimated that over 384 Olympic sized swimming pools of coffee are consumed by the nation every year.
A small group of producers have overcome financial and environmental challenges to grow Australian specialty coffee, and a dedicated audience drives local demand. Despite this, few outside the country have heard of Australian coffee – let alone tried it – and it makes up less than one percent of the coffee consumed domestically.
Here’s what makes Australian specialty coffee different from the rest, what challenges its producers face, and what could be keeping them from entering the international market.

Australia’s Return to Coffee Production
Coffee production is primarily concentrated in equatorial regions in parts of Africa, Asia, and South America. The average temperatures, precipitation received, soil conditions, and altitudes in these areas help coffee thrive. This isn’t to say that coffee can’t grow elsewhere, but that it would be more challenging for this to take place.
While Australia isn’t currently renowned as a coffee producer, it used to be. In the 1880s, it was successfully produced and even won awards in Paris and Rome. However, by the 1900s, this petered out, due to the rising cost of manual harvesting and production. In the eighties, coffee production started to make a comeback, with mechanical harvesting lowering labour costs and speeding up the process. Increased demand for specialty coffee further encouraged production.
Today, the industry supports around 50 commercial coffee growers. Most are in south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales, as these subtropical areas support coffee growth. According to Agrifutures Australia, “in the increasingly urbanised environment of the Australian subtropics, coffee is a most compatible crop to grow [here]. Its light environmental footprint fits in well with the high conservation value of this region.”
Australia produces Arabica, with tropical areas growing red Catuai or yellow Catuai, and subtropical areas growing the K7 variety. Lloyd Thom is a green coffee buyer for Campos Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster in Sydney, and says that red Catuai is mainly produced in North Queensland, as it can withstand the temperatures there. The conditions tend to produce mild coffees with a complex flavour profile, medium to low acidity, and natural sweetness.
Due to the industry’s relatively small size, processing is often undertaken by farmers on site. While wet processing is popular, other methods are also used. Rebecca Zentveld is Director of Zentvelds Coffee, a plantation and roastery in the Byron Bay hinterland of New South Wales. Her coffee is “fully washed, honey processed and natural/dry processed”. However, she also experiments by “adding yeasts in small batch lots to bring out nuances not experienced before.”
Tumblr media
What Makes Australian Coffee Unique?
Australia currently produces a small volume of specialty coffee, harvesting up to 600 tonnes of green beans from about 850 000 trees every year. Production costs remain higher than in most producing nations, which in turn increases its selling price.
Almost none of the coffee produced is exported. Rebecca says that most of it is consumed locally – with a quarter sold online or directly from estates, a quarter from specialty stores and grocers, and a quarter through roasters selling to cafés or who have their own cafés. She explains, “Australian estate coffee is easily all sold and value-added within Australia.”
While their production capacity is small, local producers do benefit from natural advantages. Growing coffee in naturally cooler microclimates within Australia’s subtropical areas means that coffee is naturally free of pests and diseases. With little in their environment to stress them, the coffee will also contain 10–15% less caffeine, as they only produce it when threatened.
As Australian producers have access to quality infrastructure, machinery, and agricultural research, they can afford to keep up with the latest advances in coffee production. Rebecca explains that growers are educating themselves on the latest technology and environmental management practices and as a result can produce coffee without harming the land, waterways, and wildlife. This is accomplished through replanting rainforest corridors, avoiding the use of harmful chemicals, intercropping with legumes, and promoting tree health and pollination through insectaries and beehives.
The country has also embraced the trend for value-added seed to cup experiences. Some producers are tapping into existing tourism efforts to show consumers (and buyers) that their coffee is high quality and being grown in their backyards. They can offer consumers a taste of it and explain how its flavours are shaped by its unique growing conditions.
Rebecca says that reliable access to water, the climate, and the area’s rich volcanic soils have helped produce coffees with desirable and valuable characteristics. It’s helped her “bring out a natural chocolate flavour and sweetness in the coffee”. For example, her Ernesto Roast has “sweet chocolate notes, plus raisin and fruitcake notes”.
Tumblr media
Challenges Facing Today’s Australian Producers
Australian coffee production might be light years ahead of what it was some hundred years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s overcome all its challenges.
Land prices remain high due to real estate competition, meaning there aren’t many plots available at the attitudes required for successful production. Additionally, labour and production costs remain higher than in other countries. As Rebecca says, “our real wage cost is at least ten [times that of] most coffee-producing nations.” Danilo de Andrade is Quality Control Manager for 3Brothers Coffee, a coffee importer in Brisbane. He says that because of these higher costs, it’s “difficult for Australian producers to compete with other origins that can produce better quality coffees at a lower price.”
The changing climate is also a complicating factor. Liam Smith is Producer at Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation in Queensland. He says, “Weather in any farming endeavour is a challenge… We have extended dry spells followed by… six months annual rainfall in one week, which is usually during our picking season. This can also affect the [coffee] drying process.”.
Lloyd says that changing climates can also increase biosecurity risks and make maintenance more challenging. He explains that “The changing climate puts the trees at risk of pests… This is compounded by diseases being present in neighbouring countries such as Papua New Guinea. Many coffee professionals travel to farms in affected countries and return to Australia, and carrying in seeds without biosecurity checks puts the industry at risk.”
Danilo feels that another challenge to local production is that consumption isn’t as high as it could be locally and internationally, as most countries don’t realise Australia produces coffee or prefer to stick to the origins that they’re used to. “We’re naturally attracted to complex and identifiable flavours from coffees grown at higher altitude locations such as Ethiopia and Colombia… I think Australia’s potential is yet to be discovered by the coffee industry.”
Tumblr media
Selling Australian Coffee Locally & Internationally
While Australian producers are recouping their current production costs and can meet their production demands, this will not necessarily guarantee them long term success. Danilo feels that it’s important for local consumption and production to increase, as COVID-19 has already negatively impacted the economy. He says, “The industry can support Australian coffee production by featuring Australian [coffee] in their cafés. This will in turn help our local economy which is always a bonus – especially now.”
Rebecca adds that this will require a buy-in from roasters and cafés, as that they should “choose to pay a real fair premium to reward Australian growers and give it the recognition it deserves… in other words, promote it as a real ‘crop to cup’ low coffee miles specialty.”
Lloyd says that buyers will also need to cooperate, and that this will involve “buying directly from farmers at a price [that] reflects their growing costs”. He adds that by getting involved in the coffee’s farming and production, they can work with farmers to ensure the coffee is specialty grade. This will also benefit the farmer, Danilo explains, by helping them add value to their coffee. By learning the nuances and skills of roasting and packing their product, they can better justify its price, rather than selling it as a commodity to green bean brokers.
Many producers have entered competitions with their coffees, and Lloyd mentions the Royal Agricultural Show and Sydney Fine Food Show as being some of them. However, the most well known event dedicated to specialty coffee is the Australian Coffee International Awards. This ceremony demonstrates that more producers than ever are realising the importance of independent quality scores in getting local buyers interested in their specialty coffee – and possibly attracting international sales interest. This year’s awards saw over 800 entries, with coffees graded as Gold, Silver, or Bronze according to their scores. Rebecca says that competing for these awards also benefits roasters, as it helps them get industry recognition.
Tumblr media
The Future of Australian Specialty Coffee
Australian coffee has something unique to offer, but the local supply chain is somewhat disconnected. Many local coffee shops and consumers are unaware it exists in the first place, while buyers and roasters don’t know what production costs or the quality of what is produced.
Increasing overall demand will require educating local and international consumers on what Australian coffee has to offer, why it’s priced the way it’s priced, and why they should consume more of it. This will ensure that the country keeps producing its coffee for years to come, and won’t disappear again as it did before.

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
It will be their hairstyle for their appearance, since I want them at least recognizable at lease so hairstyle is absolutely important for this.
9. Are they based off of you, in some way?
I could say non of them.
Myself isn't have much interests as self-insert things and that will don't make sence if they based off me, like ALL of my OCs have different nationality, race, backstory and etc with me, the creator (I'm Chinese but they are all European).
3. How did you choose their name?
I have two ways to choose their names, first names from their historical figures, and the second is names can make sence at their languages but also have nice meanings.
Albania: Aleksandër Frashëri
Aleksandër is the Albanian form for Alexander meaming "Defender, protector of man". This name has other variants in Albanian, for example Lekë, Leka and Skënder. I got the inspiration from Aleksandër Stavre Drenova, Albanian poet also the author of the lyrics of Himni i Flamurit. Yes he has the most epic first name in all of my OCs.
Frashëri is an Albanian surname, cames from a village and a former municipality called Frashër in southern Albania. I was inspired by Frashëri Brothers, they were important figures in the Albanian National Awaking period.
Bosnia: Zlatan Petrović
Zlatan is a South Slavic name which is common in serval countries meaning Golden. Since this name is ethnically neutral in Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats so this name has a high frequencies in Bosnia. Also, the national flower of BiH is Lilium bosniacum, in Bosnian it's Zlatni Ljiljan, meaning golden lily.
Petrović is a South Slavic last name meaning son of Petar, an equivalent to Peter. The name Peter it self meaning "stone".
Another thing that I should point out is, his name doesn't have any Islamic root (which is absolutely common among Bosnian Muslims). Zlatan himself is a Muslim but I also want to show some mixed feature at him so that's why.
Croatia: Tomislava Marković
Tomislava is a Crotian and Serbian female name, it's feminie form of Tomislav, meaning "torture" and "glory". The frist king of Croatia, Tomislav had this name.
Marković is a Croatian and Serbian surname, means "song of Marko". Marko is variant of "Marcus" of "Mark", drived from Mars, the god of war. Famous Croatian people had this name included Franjo Marković, philosopher and writer.
Czechia: Václav Dušek
Václav is a Czech male name which from the Slavic elements "veche (more)" and "slava (glory)". Václav I (Saint Wenceslaus) was the Duke of Bohemia, now he is the patron saint of the Czech state. After him, 4 Bohemian kings had this name, and there were two Presidents of the modern Czech Republic have this name.
Also there truly was a historical Czech personification has this name.
Dušek is a Czech surname, diminutive of Dušan which meaning "soul, spirit". Famous Czech had this name included František Xaver Dušek, composer also friend with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Herzegovina: Slađana Radić
Slađana is a female given name in Serbian and Croatian, dervied from sladak meaning "sweet".

Wildfires Are Destroying Bolivia's Rock Art
Tumblr media
Fires raging across Bolivia’s forests and grasslands have razed 4.2 million acres since May. The blazes—largely believed to be started by farmers intentionally clearing land for agricultural use—pose a threat to some 500 animal species, including jaguars, tapirs and parrots. As Agence-France Presse reports, the consequences of this unusually serious fire season aren’t limited to living creatures: Archaeologists say the infernos are also destroying Bolivia’s famed rock art.
“We believe that the damage is big and wide in terms of our heritage of rock art,” Danilo Drakic, chief archaeologist of the eastern Santa Cruz region, tells AFP.
The eastern town of Robore, which is home to sites of engravings dating to as early as 1,500 B.C., has sustained significant damage in recent months. Based on an initial assessment, Drakic says a “dark layer of soot” has blanketed all of the images, while heat from the fires has “caused stones to break, even to collapse.” Archaeologists will only be able to gauge the full extent of the devastation once the blazes have been extinguished.
According to Bolivia’s Rock Art Research Society, or SIARB, the country is home to more than 1,000 rock carving and painting sites. These artistic renderings grace the walls of small caves and rock shelters, as well the sides of vertical cliffs and large boulders. Spanning several millennia, the drawings range from a nearly 6-foot-long stylized serpent found at the El Buey Rock Shelter to the village of Calacala’s llama engravings and Peña Colorada’s abstract geometric patterns.

More
Bolivia’s oldest rock art dates to the Paleo-Indian period, which began with early humans’ arrival in the Americas around 12000 B.C. Per SIARB, other examples date to the pre-Inca period, the Inca occupation of Bolivia, and the colonial and republican eras. Almost all of the images refer to religion, either overtly (some representations painted during the 19th and 20th centuries depict saints) or implicitly (certain battle scenes carry both historic and ritualistic connotations).
A number of archaeological sites have escaped the flames unscathed—at least so far. As CNN Español’s Francho Barón reports, rock paintings in El Parque el Manantial are among the artistic renderings still intact.
In addition to threatening Bolivia’s rock art, the fires are poised to damage the Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos, an Unesco World Heritage Site constituting six 17th- and 18th-century settlements. Although Culture and Tourism Minister Wilma Alanoca told state media that the blazes have “not yet … affected” the Jesuit sites, she added, “There is no doubt that there is an impact on the intangible heritage of the area, which will have to be evaluated once all heat sources are eradicated, which is a priority for the central government.”
According to the New York Times’ Anatoly Kurmanaev and Monica Machicao, this year’s fire season has been far larger and more widespread than previous ones. Per an estimate by Bolivia’s land management authority, some 87 percent of the wildfires were illegally set by farmers emboldened by President Evo Morales’ pro-agribusiness policies—a situation with clear echoes of neighboring Brazil, which has lost more than 7,000 square miles of land to manmade fires this year to date.
Speaking with the Times, Miguel Crespo of nonprofit environmental group Probioma says it could take up to 200 years for Bolivia’s forests to recover from the flames. He adds, “I’ve never seen an environmental tragedy on this scale.”

Since there's people sharing their farmers, I'd like to talk about mine a bit if that's okay! ( !! mentions of drugs / addiction !! ) -🦭 (ps. ty for the last response, I feel ready for tomorrow's test lol)
his name is Danilo, I don't know if he could be considered a dark oc? since his story is pretty much troubled / addicted teen and then he grows to become a fully clean, healing adult after settling in the farm
I haven't really given much thought to canon x oc interactions, but what I have is that he's really kind and friendly to Linus since he was homeless for a while too.
I like to think that his first friend was Abigail, and when she tried to introduce him to Sebastian and Sam they thought that Danilo was way older, he's not actually, it's just that the consumption of substances made his skin look a bit unhealthy. the 4 of them do get along though.
Harvey is really important to him! as the town medic Danilo seeks him out to help with his process of going sober, when he has worse days and feels like relapsing he spends all day at the clinic, he feels safe, accepted and supported under Harvey's care.
Danilo feels sympathy for Shane, but he's not really comfortable around him, he reminds him too much of himself, gives him anguish and stuff. almost all their interactions include Danilo making subtle comments about Shane's problem with alcohol
my farmer is just a very self indulgent oc, really. something something character in bad situation actually getting help and fixing their life something something.
⚠️ Warning: mention of drugs:
Hey, I like your Farmer's story. I have to admit, Danilo and Julian are similar in some ways: two men who had a hard time growing up, albeit different situations. Also, I'm glad he's getting help from Harvey in his past addiction.
Do you think Danilo will be Julian's friend? Because Julian doesn't mind getting to know the new Farmer and treating him to tea and apple pie 😊
But anyway, thanks for sharing your Farmer, seal anon! 💖🫰

#### Referencias bibliográficas: * Slattery, S.A.; Niaz, O.; Aziz, Q.; Ford, A.C. y Farmer, A.D. Quezon guv lauds nat’l gov’t for early response, aid
#PHnews: Quezon guv lauds nat’l gov’t for early response, aid
MANILA – Quezon province Governor Danilo Suarez on Tuesday lauded the national government for providing early response and assistance to families severely affected by Typhoon "Ulysses" after he visited five island municipalities including Jomalig, Patnanungan, Panukulan, Burdeos, and Polilio.
"Timely, bago naman ako makarating dun nakadeploy na yung ating relief items kaya't (the relief packs have been delivered before I arrived there that's why) right now we have come up—this is temporary and we need more assistance pero (but) in the occasion of maybe one or two weeks we have enough or ample supply of foods para dito sa ating mga bikitma (for the typhoon victims)," Suarez said during a Laging Handa virtual presser.
Suarez said the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has provided assistance to displaced families through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program, a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers.
"I would like to acknowledge the help of Sec. [Silvestre] Bello nagpadala siya sa’kin ng TUPAD sa DOLE na 20, at ito'y gagawin naming payout sa mga mawawalan ng kita (for providing TUPAD slots which we will provode as payout for those who lost their income)," he said.
He added that the province will be needing more assistance as the typhoon battered the primary livelihood of farmers and fishermen in the islands.
"Fishing and agriculture will be dead for a certain period of time, sapagkat medyo malaki pa ang mga tubig dito (since the flood has not yet subsided in some areas) and that money will be quite handy, maraming salamat kay (thanks to) Sec. Bello," he said.
Agricultural, relief efforts
Suarez said the Department of Agriculture (DA) has already prepositioned its agricultural interventions for affected farmers and fishermen.
"Masisipag ito, gusto nilang makabangon kaagad (people here are really hard-working, they want to recover immediately) but we really need more assistance in terms of agricultural inputs atsaka tulong sa magsasaka (and other interventions for our farmers)," he said.
Suarez also cited the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) relief efforts.
"Nakapagpadala na sila ng (they have sent us additional) 12,000 family food packs [ulet] that will be very, very helpful at ito dinidistribute na namin (the distribution is ongoing)," he said.
He thanked DSWD Sec. Rolando Bautista and Senator Bong Go for extending social services and providing more resources for the affected residents in the province.
Suarez said the DSWD has provided motorized fiberglass boats for affected fishermen in the province.
"Baka kay Sec. Bautista meron pa siyang motorized fiberglass boats na pwede nilang maipadala sa aming lalawigan (maybe Sec. Bautista has spare motorized fiberglass that he could donate to the province)," he said, as he requested DSWD to help more fishermen recover their livelihood.
Around 57,000 families or 214,000 individuals hit hard by Ulysses in Quezon province will be needing more assistance from the national government, according to the governor.
Suarez said Ulysses has destroyed major roads in the province as some remain impassable while others are now accessible with only one lane.
Suarez said road clearing and cleaning operations are ongoing.
He said more uniformed personnel have already been deployed to help rebuild roads in the province.
As residents still reel from losses following the onslaught of several destructive typhoons in the province this year, Suarez appealed to the national government for more food packs and medical supplies that could help them until they recover.
The national government has earlier vowed to aid calamity-stricken areas in the wake of the subsequent typhoons that hit the country, with the creation of the Build Back Better Task Force—a whole-of-government approach to disaster rehabilitation, restoration, and recovery. (PNA)
