Feedback Fest let's gooo!
Here's 10 recommendations from me, in no particular order
Tumblr media
1] More Than A Sidekick, by Jason_Todds_Thigh_Holster (Henry Danger)
Oh, the classic "I have to pretend I don't care about you at all to save you, meanwhile I would give the whole word to you"-trope (totally official name). Mixed with the character in danger having relatively low self-worth and a usual "rough around the edges"-caretaker/mentor, it's just HMMMM (/pos)! I'm already a sucker for characters in hostage situations, so pairing these together is Such Good Soup. I personally didn't even keep up much with Henry Danger after my childhood, but the characters are already so nicely characterized within the fic itself, that you truly don't feel like you miss anything.
Tumblr media
2] [injury] of a salesman, by becki (Deltarune)
It's only a one shot, but everything that happens is so well organized and shown that I keep forgetting. "basically just lots of spamton getting the love and care he needs" (author's tag) describes it well, and I am HERE for it. Especially the part where the two eat together tugs at my heartstrings, I love characters with some form of food-insecurity being allowed to eat freely. Swatch as a character is also such a delight.
Tumblr media
3] URL not found, by Aster269 (@aster269) (Deltarune)
Quite a long one, this time; I read it while it was still going, and it was worth waiting for every update! The Addisons have very clearly established personalities and beliefs that are explained through their backstory. It's also very interesting to see every facet of their life, from childhood, to Big Shot Era to reunion. And personally, I can't get enough of the Addison Family unconditionally loving and supporting each other <3
Tumblr media
4] The Wake-Up Call, by cookiescrumbles (Wander Over Yonder)
Wander. Has. Issues. And they are very well acknowledged here.
His personality really shines through here, both in the way he acts and talks. The entire concept is also very sweet; and I love Sylvia's and Wander's relationship. Shout out to the Hat, for getting Wander what he needs!
Tumblr media
5] Tiny Reverberations, by Sylphidine_Gallimaufry (@sylphidine) (Deltarune)
SO! CUTE! Very short, but that just contributes to how fun of a read it is. It's pure fluff, and that mixed with Spam's reaction due to his low self-worth is balm for the soul <3 It's just so adorable; love the kitty <3
Tumblr media
6] Mourning Dove, by LynnCanigula15 (@moonbeam-dragon) (Darkwing Duck)
I must say, I'm always a fan of people talking about the kinda messed-up stuff that happens in DW sometimes. And I think how the other three members of the F4 react to this - relatively complicated - situation is very much in character for who they are. Big fan of angst, and Bushroot's state of mind is especially interestingly described and established in chapter 2.
Tumblr media
7] Back Alley Beatdown, by SwoodMaxProductions (@swoodthis) (Deltarune)
I love seeing Spamton fighting tooth and nail, knowing his own advantages. Sweet Cap'n Cakes are also very sweet and considered to the Spam Man here; making sure to reassure him when necessary. The description of the parts carefully placed beside him is a personal favourite of mine here! It also has a very nice conclusion.
Tumblr media
8] Last of your Kind, by Vanyel (@boonbeenblade) (Cult of the Lamb)
It manages to say what it wants so clearly and concisely, seeing the length that it is. The use of language is truly phenomenal, and it shows a very cool outlook on the relationship between the Lamb and TOWW. Even though the fic depicts events that you literally play yourself, it manages to give an interesting outlook on them, making one able to experience them again as if from fresh eyes, from the perspective of the character. The second-person writing comes off as very natural.
Tumblr media
9] Ever so slightly, by Pancakes_for_Dragons (Deltarune)
Sometimes I need a story that is just unapologetic angst. The fic gives Rouxls a very clear persona that reflects on his literal state as the "Rules Card" very well. How his relationship with Lancer grows is really sweet; and especially "I’m thoust Lesser father, surely that musteth count for something." and the whole event around it, still has a space in my mind, since the first time I read it!
Tumblr media
10] breathe, breathe, by SteveSmackdown2014 (School for Vampires)
Again, just a very sweet story. It's very easy to see it both from Oskar's (with all the knowledge we have as viewers) and from Sunshine's (with a more 'normal', human outlook) perspective; and why they both react the way they do. Oskar's fear is shown as so very real, but the actual moment is just as sweet.

This might be common knowledge in the fandom but I didn't realize that The Silmarillion fandom on ao3 is in the top fandoms that have the most gen fanworks! I cant help but feel proud, because in this fandom gen is such an important aspect and Its good to see it up there. Especially since its not in the top 25 fandoms of all time on ao3.
Tumblr media
When it comes too fandoms with the highest proportion of gen, they are top 4! Its beating some big name fandoms when it comes to Gen, which is an underappreciated category on ao3.
Tumblr media
I found these graphs in this work [Fandom Stats] by toastystats where they have a whole collection of works on fandom research and refrence guides. Highly reccomend.
I love to see one of my favorite fandoms on graphs for top works, no matter the genre, even if I get a little overexcited!
Feel free to recommend your favorite Silm Gen fanworks. Please share your own writing too! We all clearly love Gen in this fandom, and are constantly hungry for more fics.

Hey, so as a person who has in my unpublished works a story wherein APH Greenland is minorly featured, after I saw your post complaining about Greenland's current characterisation in fanworks, I realised that my story 100% fits all the things you were complaining about. And if it's not too much trouble how would you characterise Greenland in a way that is less problematic?
Or do you have any reccomendations for resources I can use to educate myself about Greenlandic culture?
So, I will preface this with the following:
I AM NOT INDIGENOUS. I AM NOT INUK. YOU SHOULD GO ASK SOMEONE INDIGENOUS OR BETTER YET, SOMEONE WHO IS GREENLANDIC INUIT.
However, in this post, I will primarily give some guidelines that are generally applicable to any nation personification of color that has experienced colonialism/imperialism by a Western nation and is still dealing with its legacy. Keep in mind that what you're asking for is a lot, however- we're touching on topics of national anthropomorphizations in political cartoons, the depiction of the colonized, particularly the indigenous, and the relationship between the colonized and the colonizer.
Don't make Greenland America and Canada's relative.
Don't make Greenland Denmark's kid, biological or otherwise.
Don't use sensitive contemporary issues in Greenland for fandom content.
Don't Make Greenland America and Canada's Relative
Every time I've seen this come up, this is usually justified one of two ways-
a) Greenland is related to America and Canada because the Vikings set up the first European settlements in continental North America, so they would be related via their Norse heritage. b) Greenland is related to America and Canada because America and Canada have a native parent, and Greenland is a sibling of that native parent.
To head things off- The first one is bad. See my next section for the issues of making Greenland a child of the Nordics/Nordic ancestors.
The second one almost always carries the implication of that the native parent of America and Canada is some kind of nebulous pan-American "APH Native America" personification; the issues with having the many indigenous peoples of the Americas as similar and interchangeable enough to warrant only one personification to represent them all are obvious, I should hope.
The slightly more plausible alternative is that America and Canada's native parent represents some Inuit group, and through that, Greenland is their sibling. Even if more plausible, we run into the same issue of turning a group into a monolith- there are many different Inuit groups, all with their own unique histories and cultures. Though Inuit groups may be more related than all Indigenous Americans to each other, they are still not a monolith, and determining their relationships to each other shouldn't be resolved with a blanket solution of "they're all related, nuff said."
If we want to dig into the weeds of historical accuracy, it makes no sense for America to have Inuit heritage, seeing as the United States began as the Thirteen Colonies in the Eastern Seaboard of the modern United States which doesn't overlap with the traditional lands of the Inuit. The Alaska Purchase was not made until 1867, hundreds of years after the establishment of the Thirteen Colonies.
I would also like to point out another issue I’ve seen with many “Auntie/Uncle Greenland depictions” in the fandom. Whenever you do see such depictions of Greenland in the fandom, almost never do we see the creator of such interpretations shedding light on any other indigenous characters (particularly ones not related to the USA and Canada). Therefore, such depictions are exceptionalizing and exalting an indigenous character above all other indigenous characters because they have more of a connection to major Western countries.
Overall summary: The primary issue with making Greenland related to America and Canada is that Greenland is never allowed to exist outside of their links to these two. If you want to depict Greenland with respect, the most basic thing you can do is to not reduce Greenland into a tool for you to better characterize America and Canada and flesh out their background.
Don't make Greenland Denmark's Child, Biological or Otherwise
TW: racist caricatures of black, Latino, Native American, and Asian people
So first some quick historical background: Norse settlement of Greenland began around the 900s-1100s and died out sometime between 1450 and 1500 due to a variety of environmental and sociopolitical reasons. The surviving Norse settlers most likely either left or assimilated with the local Inuit populations, so there is some genetic legacy, but 85-90% of the population of Greenland today considers themselves Greenlandic Inuit.
For the following centuries, there were sporadic interactions between European whalers and the local Inuit. It was only until 1721 that another attempt at colonization was made, this time by the missionary Hans Egede, who founded a trading company and Lutheran mission near present day Nuuk, with the express permission of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway.
Greenland took on a special status in both Danish policy and imagination, a far-off land that was "vulnerable" to other nation's influences and in need of Danish protection. In line with that thinking, the Danish state held an exclusive monopoly on Greenland's resources and all trade with Greenlanders. It pressured Greenlandic Inuit to stay in their occupations of hunting and fishing so that Denmark could maintain access to resources Greenland provided, mainly animal products from local wildlife the Inuit hunted.
Additionally, the Danish also tightly regulated interactions between the Danish colonial population and the local Inuits. For a time, intermarriage was strictly controlled, limited to only Danish men and Greenlandic women of mixed descent and had to be approved by the colonial administration. When the US wanted to build military bases on Greenland for military purposes during WW2, a major concern of Greenlandic authorities was minimizing contact between the US soldiers and the local Inuits.
Of course, Greenland didn’t stay this way forever. Against Denmark’s wishes, Greenland did open up and become further integrated into the global economy and order of nations, and to this day a lot of Greenlanders have a Danish ancestor somewhere in their family tree.
However, to make Greenland (substantially) related to the Norse is to do a disservice to the hundreds of years of Greenlandic Inuit culture that already existed and then continued to thrive for hundreds of years in the absence of continued Nordic contact and influence. It implies that the ethnogenesis of the Greenlandic Inuit was kicked off by the Norse settlers, when in reality, the Greenlandic Inuit are largely descended from the native Thule people and later waves of migration of other Inuit people from modern day Nunavut and Nunavik. To make Greenland the child of Denmark is worse, and stands in stark contrast to the fact that compared to other nations and their settler colonies (think, England and America), Denmark heavily controlled Danish migration to Greenland and wanted to keep Greenland isolated and contained.
Now, moving past the issue of historical accuracy, there's been a long history in political cartoons starring national anthropomorphizations of allegorizing international relationships as familial relationships, or "mentor-mentee" relationships, especially when it comes to colonizer-colony relationships.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
REPORT FROM THE FILIPINES Send more soldiers -Otis Uncle Sam: Balm in Gilead! Well, thank heavens both my new daughters haven't got the same disposition.
Tumblr media
'School Begins', cartoon of Uncle Sam teaching a class in civilisation to pupils labelled 'Philippines', 'Hawaii', 'Porto Rico' and 'Cuba'
In these cartoons, the colonized is portrayed as child-like, infantile, in need of the US's benevolent guidance to be "civilized." After all, if the relationship between the colonizer and its colonial possessions was like that of a parent and their children (or a teacher and their students)- well, children need their parents, so therefore, the colonies need the colonizer and its guidance, right? By doing so, it portrays the relationship between the colonizer and its colonies as a necessary, benevolent one, one done for the benefit of the colony, and masks the inherently exploitative, unequal nature of colonialism.
To make Denmark a parental influence on Greenland, then, is to replicate the same paternalistic attitude Denmark took to Greenland as a colonial possession in need of guidance and direction, and possibly whitewashing the toll Danish colonization has taken on Greenland. Even depictions of Denmark and Greenland that emphasize their “little brother/big brother” relationship are problematic, because they fall into the same colonial rhetoric of Greenland "needing" Denmark's civilizing guidance.
Moreover, sensitivity is another concern for depictions of Greenland. At the risk of speaking for groups I do not belong to, having a child Greenland be raised by Denmark and the other Nordics (esp if Greenland has a negative relationship w them) hews a little too closely to the real life kidnapping of Indigenous children from their families to be raised instead by white families, in an attempt to remove them from their heritage and culture. Unless you're actually Greenlandic Inuit or indigenous, I don't think this is your story to tell.
Don't Use Sensitive Contemporary Issues in Greenland for Fandom Content
Don't use sensitive contemporary issues for fandom content, especially as an outsider. Don't be like the person I saw making angst headcanons around Greenland's high suicide rate.

This video is a great introduction to Danish colonization of Greenland, and how I began my dive into Greenlandic history. Bear in mind that this is a 25 minute long video, so it's compressing a lot, but it's a jumping off point, not the end-all be all. Content warnings should be in the beginning of the video.
Phasing out the Colonial Status of Greenland by Erik Beukel
This is a report commissioned by the Danish government and Greenlandic Home Rule analyzing the period between 1945 and 1954, where Greenland's status was changed from that of a colony to an equal part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It's a series of political science essays looking at this period, but I found Chapter 2 the most useful, as it provides an overview of the relevant historical background factors in the relationship between Greenland and Denmark. Warning for some dated language (mostly because it uses Esk*mo at certain points) but otherwise there's not really any content warnings.
Worldviews of the Greenlanders: An Inuit Arctic Perspective by Brigitte Sonne
I haven't fully read this book so I can't totally vouch for this, but given the difficulty of accessing academic material of Greenland (especially as someone who doesn't speak or read Danish), this does fill in some much needed gaps in perspectives on Greenland. I realize the inherent problems of needing to read about Inuit perspectives in a book compiled by an outsider academic as well as the issues with the field of ethnography as a whole, but this may still be useful to some!
Articles I enjoyed that look at Greenlandic history and contemporary issues:
The Arctic Suicides: It's Not the Dark that Kills you
A Brief History of the Indignities Heaped Upon Greenland
How a failed social experiment in Denmark separated Inuit children from their families

anyways since i hurt my wrist ive been reading a lot of DHMIS fic, and as such i have some opinions on alla them! i also have some faves that i am going to reccomend now if any of you are in the mood to read:
First up, this whole series of DHMIS shorts are SO well-written and very bittersweet. They’re both sort of mini stories AND explorations of the positives and negatives of each individual character in the trio + their dynamics with each other. Pretty accurate to the characters, I think, and just straight up, well-written, fun to read. CANNOT OVERSTATE how much I enjoyed these ones. This was my fave of the three, I think about it ALL the time. Though, honestly, you can’t just read ONE and not read the others!
Alright, next is my FAVE FAVE FAAVEE dog/dad duo fic! I love a lot about this fic! I love the in-character dialogue, I love the thoughtful way this fic explores one of my favorite dynamics in the show! It's heartfelt and awkward and jumpy and misshapen- and I think it's a pretty fantastic avenue to take when exploring these characters. There's also a bit of existential terror, for those of you who like that element of the show! Anyways, this fic is literally ALWAYS going to have a rent-free space in my heart.
THIS ONE is a really smart and thought out rearrangement of the first TV season, with a kind of emotional narrative throughline that I gotta say, I was invested in. I always like fanworks that reintegrate lines from canon in different contexts and this is something this fic really understands how to do well. The epilogue made me understand why people will buy and read books telling the exact same event from a different characters POV. tbh i’d buy this if I could.
THIS one is short, sweet and REALLY fucking funny. I literally crack up just thinking about Duck asking Red which of the other two he’d rather be stuck with on a desert island. Comedy of errors with a bittersweet ending that has really stuck around in my head.
This one is less of a singular character exploration and more of a exploration of a hypothetical character dynamic ,imo. And I LOVE the dynamic in it so much! It's compelling, it's messy, it's very push-and-pull, it's like watching two cars almost crash into each other, miss, and then smash violently into poles in opposite sides of the street. I like the OCs in it ( they have a very funny bit going ), I like the fun little fanmade songs, and I like that the relationship between the two main characters is used as a really good platform to see what their insecurities  and their worst traits are up close. I rarely see ship fics that do that! And as someone who is far more interested in the characters themselves than the ship together, I am all in on the carnage.

Fanwork Sunday (late)
Tagged by @blarrghe thank uuuu <3 I love to share recs but forget to do it often. Anyways. I'd recommend @merrybandofmurderers 's dragon age fics but I think I have done that many times already? So! A different author this time :]
Author: @crowwithabrush / KallistoKrow on Ao3!
Reccomended fic: Fellow Heretics
I discovered this fic by happenstance when the writer commented on one of my fics and fell in love with their Lavellan, Revos! The author has an excitement and love for Dragon Age that shines through, particularly in their criticism of the source material's handling of the tranquil. I've loved so far how they weave the Dalish love n respect for their mages into Revos' perspective and his backstory has unfolded in so many fun, unexpected pieces. It's a real treat to read!
Artist: uhhhh.... I know less artists, unfortunately, but! Reccomending @catebeesart who has done a commission for me before and does such BEAUTIFULLY detailed traditional clothing inspired designs.
Below is their artwork of my Dalish oc Fen'an (bc omg I haven't stopped fanboying it still) and a beautiful Gale sketch from them!!

Tagging @just-call-me-angel @merrybandofmurderers @mrs-theirin @thicchaco @horrorscoupes @bicyclepainting @cactusnymph @midnighred74 and @curiouslavellan if u would like to!!

I'm actually seriously considering turning AI research into my full-time hobby/future job and re-opening this blog just to deal with the pure amount of machine learning/generative AI misinformation that is being spread around on this fucking website. If I have to see another retarded post by someone who has clearly never even touched StableDiffusion claiming that 'feeding soulless AI "art" to the plagiarism machines makes the art worse', I'm gonna lose my fucking mind.
My current job is at huge risk of getting wiped out by automation in the next 10-20 years. I've literally got just as much to lose as all of these artists who are calling machine learning 'plagiarism' or 'copying'. But I'm not fucking stupid enough to see technology that could revolutionize employment and creativity on mass scale and immediately start calling for laws that benefit corporations and only strengthen our shitty copyright system against us, the little guys.
We spent the last 20 years laughing at authors who tried to prosecute fanworks, cheering on piracy (even promoting shop-lifting in many popular posts), reccomending open-source software, and hating on corporations, but as soon as AI comes out, suddenly the ONLY way this tech can be used is to harm artists and get rid of jobs and 'steal art'. We HAVE to cheer on the corporations and the established authors who are sueing to destroy the tools that could undermine their bottomline.
Fuck! It's so depressing!

Advice on how to enjoy Jayce outside of Arcane? I don't even like Arcane... But it seems no one remembers he exists outside of that for a decade previously
Im gonna be playing a bit of a bummer role here but........ Jayce focused stuff in fandom is very few and far inbetween. My advice is to curate your tl/dashboard/wherever to include the least amount of stress related to that subject, and if you feel like browsing the character tags is only making your outlook worse, give it a break. (Alternatively: when you do find something you enjoy, let the creator know about it! A comment or compliment goes a long way in terms of encouraging people and that's how you build a niche.)
There used to be a few more league jayce fanwork creators around but I've noticed a sharp decline and migration event since arcane, which isn't rly something I can do much about now nor can I fault them for it 🤷‍♂️
I tend to stick to myself or talk to the same 3ish people that understand what I like, and I'm pretty self-sufficient in that way; the most fun I have is coming up with story or AU concepts that I then throw in gdocs or scribble out on a canvas, and sometimes, if they're legible, I'll share them here for other people. I highly encourage everyone to try their own hand at hyperspecific interest crossovers or comparisons or silly fanart or bulletpoint AU fics that exist for your benefit prior to anybody else's. I'm a creator, and this is the main way I enjoy things. It may be different for you, but I think it's worth giving a shot! I believe the more of something you put out in the world the more it has a chance to take root and give back, but it has to start somewhere.
If reccomendations are what you seek, I can offer [ my fanfic bookmarks ] which contain a lot of jayce-focused works, and you can click on each individual author to browse a few more! (There are others, trust me.)
If you need starting places, try Dialectics and Reflectives or Total Organ Failure -- they set a really nice scene.
In terms of a bit more obscure but very enjoyable fanwork, heres an archive of og lore viktor/jayce art by Kyrrys, including a whole comic
You may also find great joy in Nesirch’s vikjayce twitter moment which has a loooot of 2019+ fanart! PLUS PART 2 (includes arcane)
And The Big Bad Jayvik Compilation, a sizable PDF of archived pre-arcane fic by Tyelperin
I wish I could offer a neater archive of jayce leagueoflegends overall, but it's not something I have ready right now. Maybe someday. When I next get back to you on this, I'll have a few textbased things of my own to add to the pile.

PODFICCING TIPS! (For the ones with ADHD or an addiction to efficiency)
- Small changes like choosing smaller rooms, pointing mics directly towards your mouth and avoiding louder fabrics, items when recording can make a BIG difference to audio quality.
- Microphones aren’t at all necessary to podfic but if you are considering purchasing one, small Bluetooth mics as relatively easy to use and cheap to buy. If ur super committed to the podfic game, or just generally looking for a great microphone, I can personally reccomend the ‘Rode NTUSB USB Microphone’. Its sortaa expensive for hobby equipment but has great multifunction for recording audio, such as podficcing, singing and instruments.
- Audacity is everyone's favourite audio editing software for a good reason. It’s free, easy to use and find online tutorials. If your the kinda poddficcer who lack the patience to individually edit recordings, I edit out audio as I go. This works also IPhone voice memos. If you mess up a line, simple cut out the area and try again! NOTE: this only really works if you are recording on your own. In order to ensure the audio is a smooth as possible, make sure you always start the new recordings at the start of a sentence, so sudden differences in vocal tone can be avoided.
- GET PERMISSION!! It’s always better when creating fanworks to ask authors, artists or other creators when using their work. The exception is of course, if they have blanket permissions! There is a Ao3 skin which allows you to automatically see which authors allow blanket permissions on their site, which can make this process a lot easier; https://github.com/BrickGrass/Blanket-Permission-Highlighter
-  I always add link to the podfics back onto ao3, so that they are easily available and credited
- There are range of platforms to host fanworks that you create but as a creator that uses Youtube and Spotify only, I can highly recommend them as being simple to use! Podfics can be uploaded onto Spotify in particular using hosting sites such as Anchor, which is my personal choice.

Sometimes im in a very trashy fanfic mood. And with that, I'm not disqualifying the fanwork in question. Trashy doesn't refer to the quality. Trashy refers to the absolute hilarity with which I engage - an hilarity I reserve for the most random, nonserious fandoms.
One of my fav shit to read while on this mood are Stardew Valley, Zoey 101, The Breakfast Club and Sky High fanfic. Alongside a bunch of random fandoms. Many times this includes a deepdive into fanfiction dot net
Point is, I really reccomend reading fanfic you enjoy but have no big emotional ties to. Nonserious stuff. It's a lovely way to unwind.

Account tags > redwrites - original works > redreviews - reviews of fanworks > redrambles - misc posts
Review rules At any time and for any reason you may request a review of your work be privated. similarly you may request a review of your fanwork, however this is not an on demand service and will be at my own discretion.
Review material Topics that may be reviewed and as such may be found on this blog, this will expand in relation to future content. > NSFW & Kink content - this is an 18+ account > Blood and gore - both of the human and transformer kind > References to illicit substances - this isn't health advice > X Reader content - for any gender > OC content - including self insert characters
Hall of fame Fics that I highly reccomend, included are short reviews and comments, however tags are omitted so please use caution before reading.
> In Media Bellum - THE platonic x reader fic, amazing characterisation of the whole cast, Optimus in particular. Introspective and thought provoking, you will leave this fic with a new appreciation for stargazing. > Breaking Bread - SS_Shitstorm is personally one of my all time favourite TF authors and does not dissapoint in this fic. With all their wit, charm and chemistry knowledge this fic is a ride from start to end. Soundwave is a particular highlight of this fic, with more than one occasion provoking an audible aww. > Logical Proposals - An incredibly mature yet wholesome story about family and love. Some incredibly insightful writing on asexuality and parenthood along with all the usual shenanigans one might expect of media including the cassettes.
