Even when she was young, Feyre was an artist. Her creative tendencies aided her through the most difficult times in her life.
When she was barely a young woman, her mother made her promise to look after her sisters - even though Feyre was the youngest of the three girls. It was an odd request.
After the death of her mother, more tragedy struck. Her father lost everything, and the debt collectors were violent in their workings. The young Feyre watched as her father's legs were beaten badly. Her screams were louder than the crunch of her father's bones.
And then they were cast off into poverty, starvation and desolution. With Feyre being the one to find food. (I think it should also be noted that it is assumed that Nesta and Elain did nothing around the house but I'm sure they kept it tidy and as neat as they could.)
When Feyre was in the woods with her bow and arrow, she saw a large wolf and decided that hunger was more important than any other consequence.
That's how her story starts.
