so a Yellowjackets AU where mari says something to get herself kicked out of the cabin, and she dies of exposure and gets eaten at the bachanalian banquet instead of Jackie, who LIVES, who's there at Shauna's side when she goes into labor, stroking her hair and letting Shauna squeeze her hand hard enough to sprain her fingers, who keeps Shauna calm enough she has a (comparatively!!!!!!) easier delivery, who is the reason the(ir) baby lives.
who finally, after months of feeling adrift and useless because she’s not a hunter or a butcher or a prophet or a captain (anymore) finds her purpose in the wilderness. who painstaking sews patchwork baby onesies and cloth diapers from the girls' spare clothes (Offerings, not donations). who makes a baby sling from animal pelts and backpack straps. who makes a rattle from sticks and pinecones and some light blue pebbles Jackie found by the lake one day and saved. who makes sure the cabin stays warm and clean for Luke Dylan (from 90210--they couldn't decide whether to go with the actor or the character).
who builds them another shelter from blankets and animal hides after the cabin burns down. who keeps shauna and their baby warm through that first terrible winter and the one that followed.
and one day in 1998, Canadian forest rangers happen upon that American high school soccer team that went missing 2 years back. they find a group of starving teens and a baby, a little over a year old, two of the girls wrapped around him--and each other
and when the rescue team tries to separate them the one with tangled, golden brown hair bears her teeth and Growls

This chapter hit me like a fucking truck - because it's the first time I've ever seen someone describe loneliness/desire for friends with food....As you guys know I love cooking. I love food. It's why this manga appealed to me so much - cooking for other's is my love language. I love making meals and people eating them. It brings me joy - and eating alone makes me very sad and lonely (In my apartment I try to only eat while on call...eating breakfast alone always makes me feel lonely).
Its why I have restaurants I always wanted to try but never go - the point of a meal to me is to share it with someone. It will never taste as good alone, at least to me...I'm glad I'm not alone in this feeling, and that it got put into words. Anytime I mentioned this people told me 'who cares just go alone' afdgh

one piece is good because the god of hope and joy and freedom is real and his protection feels like the first rays of sunshine after a storm and his anger blazes and burns and he is also nineteen and wears old flip flops and an older hat and his reindoctor (reindeer doctor) is currently giving him the heimlich because someone said that it’s impossible to eat that much without chewing and he said nuh uh watch this

Consoling myself over the fact that I’m spending my favorite holiday (Easter) alone with the fact that at least I have a dinner planned (kielbasa, pierogi, kapusta) and I have a thematic hyperfixation to indulge that day.

kinda disappointed with how this weekend went. I mean, it wasn't bad! but it was our first weekend in the new apartment, and I/we wanted to get a lot done. I already did a lot during the week (a lot for me, not a lot for most people I guess), but there's lots of things that I can't do/can't do on my own, either because I'm too short or not strong enough or I need someone else to hold something or whatever. which realistically just won't get done during the week because my husband works full time, so. it sort of sucks that only one very small, unimportant thing got done. 😔

Me: *playing random cooking videos of youtube in the background*
Video: ... and maybe this dish might evolve into what my mother and them had us eat when we were younger and that was called goulash. We just substituted really the hot dogs with a little bit of ground beef.
Me: *chokes so hard on their cocoa that it comes out of their nose* YOU CANNOT COMPARE A MACARONI AND GROUND BEEF STEW WITHOUT ANY PAPRIKA IN IT WITH GOULASH!
