Ents with flower crowns.

There are few things Ents do in haste. It is tradition after strong storms to gather all the fallen flowers—since it is a waste for them to wilt and fade so needlessly without one last use—and decorate themselves with them. The younger and less tree-like shepherds even go so far as to wind them into wreaths for the oldest who can no longer move.

Finally done with my version of The Universe's design!

#ariart #isat #isat spoilers #the creechur... btw the stuff written on their back veil are lyrics (chaos version) to fleeting words and beautiful song #they have a mouth. but itd be best for em not to use that. i like to think that the Universe communicates via telepathy #cuz if they use their own mouth itd be like an absolute order that cant be broken (like how wishes are granted via wish craft)#the rest of their body is meant like-- a tree trunk. cuz world tree and all that! also favour tree!#hollow stomach with a single floating star aaannd the lower part of the back veil is meant to be a butterfly when whole #yes those are two faces as well. drawing the lines for that nearly made me lose my mind a lil. the angle was painful...#it aint as obvious but the stars (egg and rectangle specifically) dangling on the front veil is morse code for i love you #also in a way the reason why i decided to make their middle pair of hands in that form is that inside their palm is the country #north of vaugarde. so its like theyre holding the country protectively. a star formed to keep anyone from lookin in!

So have you seen this tumblr post about Merry and Pippin's memory of Frodo beginning to fade as they get older after he leaves for Valinor? Okay, now you have.

So now in the Magnolia AU, what do you think their relationship would look like with Frodo choosing to stay in the Shire, in Middle Earth? How often do they see each other? Do they feel sort of distant from him, wanting to reach out and help him but knowing there's nothing they can really do for him, since they don't really know what he went through, not the way Sam does? I just- OUGH I get emotional about this either way 😭

for some reason the intro to phonology and syntax classes for grad students are also the advanced phonology and syntax classes for undergrads, which means the professors are spouting off dense syntactical theory to undergrads who have already taken the intro class with them, meanwhile there's six of us grad students sitting to the side staring at each other like this

#linguistics blogging #no joke I literally made this face in syntax earlier #the professor was describing contiguity theory and drawing syntax trees I could NOT understand #and an undergrad asked her ''what does this mean for phi-boundaries'' or something like that #and I just looked over at my friends and made this face #only to discover they were all also looking bewildered and/or miserable #I'm so glad it's not just me #because I have literally never taken a phonology or syntax class #and I am SO out of my depth #we did the BARE basics of this stuff in my minor #and definitely no theory #so I have no fucking idea what's going on #luckily out of the six of us only two have an actual linguistics degree before this #the rest of us are pretty new to the field #so we are suffering together #i hate syntax and phonology. god.#these technical fields are NOT for me #this is why I'm a sociolinguist!!!!!#I am not interested in theories about how language works from an abstract perspective #I'm much more interested in WHY language behaves the way it does socially #like. I don't care about the phonological reasons for a particular sound feature #im more interested in the social context. does this sound carry prestige? is it stigmatized? how has the perception of it changed over time #I don't care about the theory behind why certain languages have developed grammatical rules for word order #I'm more interested in what happens when a dialect forms from a community with a different L1 #and how their ideas of word order affect their L2 dialect #you know?#the social and historical stuff is where I thrive #not this theory babble #like. the theory is important work. but it's not MY work.
