I know it's incredibly late, but at last! My piece for the Yeehawgust prompt "Yee-caw."
Additionally, I have no justification for making Jack Seward cool and capable of befriending corvids. I just thought that in a high fantasy western au, purely for the aesthetics, he could be a suspicious surgeon type.
Close up because I'm trying new brushes

Love how Hoyo left Wriothesley's origins a mystery (Schrödinger's Fontainian, as @/hydrachea put it), and love even more how Wriothesley's voice line for this is to joke about finding out by diving into Primordial Seawater just to see what would happen snzkxjndm but. I feel like that's such a delightful setup for suspense, too, which is my fave ♡
Just love imagining Sigewinne, unconscious and sunk at the bottom of so much Primordial Seawater where no one can get to her. And she's a Mélusine; she won't drown, because she was made able to live underwater. But that doesn't mean that Primordial Seawater isn't dangerous, even to her. It slowly begins to eat away at her.
And stuck up on the surface, Wriothesley paces, and paces, and paces, asking for the sixth time where the hell is Neuvilette, or even Lady Furina, how much longer til they get here, what if they don't have that long?
Clorinde quizzes everyone present, but it's no use: everyone there is of Fontaine. It's not a matter of no one wanting to save Sigewinne, it's that they literally can't. They would all dissolve the second they were submerged, long before they could dive deep enough to grab her. The only one that they aren't sure is Fontainian or not is-
Clorinde looks back, and Wriothesley is standing close enough to tip into the sea, right at the edge.
"Wriothesley, don't."
He's staring down into the water. He doesn't turn to look at her.
"Wriothesley, don't-!!"
And Wriothesley dives.

Opinion on helpi GASLIGHTING cassie the entire game/lh (im already a gregory protector i may as well be a helpy protector too..)
I honestly…. Really loved Helpy…… like i didn’t even pay attention to what he was saying he was just so cute whenever he popped up on the screen and explained stuff 🥲 I might need therapy but I would let him stab me and I’d still find him cute and just pat his little baby bear head and tell him he’s doing a great job
As for the protector stuff? I’m not taking sides ฅ(≚ᄌ≚) everyone got stuff going on but Cassie def ended up paying for it just for doing things out of the kindness of her heart. I don’t really think that Gregory betrayed her tho, there was more than just the mimic in the pizzaplex giving her trouble or even trying to stop her all unrelated to Gregory :0c hope everyone is ok in the end :> Cassie deserves better too 💖 she’s a good bean

Thinking about Angeal in DFFOO apparently throwing himself in front of a sword to protect Sephiroth, even knowing that he's unrepentantly evil at that point and has no goal except to hurt people and fuck with Cloud, because he just cares about him so much—
But in CC, Angeal is only upset about Genesis' alleged death because he didn't manage to kill him before Zack did. Even though he's completely aware that Genesis is doing all this in an attempt to either 1. not literally rot to death, or 2. take the company down with him in recompense for ruining all their lives from conception.
The only point that he gets genuinely upset after Genesis "dies" is when Hollander calls Gillian by name. That is more upsetting to him than the death of someone who he's known basically since birth. The only issue with his oldest childhood friend being dead is that Angeal didn't get to kill him.
But Sephiroth, openly malicious, violent, abusive—he is worth defending. He's worth protecting. He deserves every possible chance to prove that he's better than he was made, even when he's stated outright that he made his choice and doesn't intend to change.
Absolutely mindboggling that so few people seem to realize the extreme difference in how he feels about them, even when it's on full display.
(Also, I feel like it's more proof for my theory that Angeal is in love with Sephiroth too and the reason he treated Genesis the way he did is because if he wasn't good enough, then Genesis certainly wasn't, and couldn't be allowed to think otherwise. I don't think this was intentionally malicious, but I think Angeal was actually extremely immature and so self-righteous he'd rather they all be miserable than see someone he loved find support from someone he found unworthy.)

Rumor has it: our feisty boy has a fever. And all I’m thinking about right now is Milo wrapped in Sweetheart’s arms, held snug to their chest as they pet his hair and occasionally kiss his forehead. He was reluctant about these close cuddles, in fear of getting his mate sick as well, but their sweet words lured him in closer.
Their gentle voice soothing his breathing and turning his head to mush as Sweetheart softly hums Milo to sleep. Milo gets super axioms when he’s sick, especially right now considering Quinn’s becoming more of a threat to the pack. He’s almost guilty about catching this fever, but Sweetheart hushes all of those thoughts away. Reassuring him that he’s safe, and they’d do anything to protect him. “You’re safe in my arms. Rest, my love.”

the thing about winter is coming/the north remembers, the magic of it all, and the starks being raised with this sense of duty to protect their people is that thinking of it always makes me think of lyanna and howland reed and the story that started with them at harrenhal and ended in a tower in the red mountains. she protected him—beat a bunch of squires off of him, cleaned his wounds, talked him into feasting with them without thinking for a second that he was beneath her (and she found clothes for him so he wouldn’t be out of place), disguised herself as a knight and risked her life and reputation to enter a tourney (though of course she must have thought it was a laugh since… yeah) to fight and actually beat the knights who taught their squires to behave so dishonorably when he couldn’t do it himself—because aside from being the right thing to do, it was her duty as a stark to do it. (why do the gods make kings and queens, if not to protect the ones who can’t protect themselves? / justice… that’s what kings are for) and it touched him so deeply that he went all the way to dorne for her, lied for her, protected her brother and her son, made her into a story he told his children. he remembers her.

only tangentially related to this ep, but - i have an Avatar concept around the cold/freezing water/hypothermia and drowning, and Ive discussed before which Fear that would most closely align with. A lot of people said the Buried or the Lonely, maybe the Vast, mixed with Dark.
Water and cold can be hard to categorise, even aside from how the categories are arbitrary lines drawn between fears etc etc. Cause these motifs have shown up with the Vast, Buried and Lonely, and probably others on occasion too.
But I think the cold an sich, and cold water especially, are most closely related to the Dark. Just like how Manuela describes the darkness as not the opposite of light, but the absence of it, the universe's natural state; so too does she talk in today's ep about how cold is not the opposite of warmth, but the lack of it. Cold is stillness, quiet, numbing. Dark.
...and also;
109, Nightfall: "As soon as my foot hit the water, I fell into it completely. It was colder than anything I had ever experienced, and the torch slipped from my hand as my vision immediately went dark."
140, The Movement of the Heavens: "I gripped the head of my foul adversary, and forced it down, into the dark pool before us. There I held it, the water so cold upon my skin the marks have yet to fade."
143 Heart of Darkness: "... I began submerging the first of the sacrifices in the brackish water it had blessed with its stillness."
143 ,, : "There is another world, a world of still and quiet darkness, where no heat touches..."
Other Fears statements occasionally also feature water, sometimes even cold water (though it's always accompanied of a mention of how dark it is, too), but it's not as much of A Thing as with the Dark. And I think it's a cool motif which they should get more credit for!
