it may interest you to know that because I continually forget on my SYWTBAW rereads and have to look up what, exactly, a Lotus Esprit looks like so many times, my Google homepage now always includes at least one article and/or sale of some kind of Lotus. It's been months. (And some of the offers have wormed their way into my very long term 'for future consideration' bucket...)
It's interesting to note that the classic 1983 model has routinely had a pretty good rep as an admittedly high-performance used car. Prices naturally vary, depending on where you're sourcing one and what kind of shape it's in. But you can plainly get pretty nice ones without breaking the bank (in sports car-money terms anyway).
The thought "Wouldn't it be cool to have one of those?" has crossed my mind more than once. But this far along in my life, I very much doubt just getting/having one could match the sheer open-mouthed rush of falling-in-love-with-hardware I first experienced on passing the Lotus showroom in Manhattan, seeing the Esprit in the window there, and realizing exactly what the sentient, predatory sports car in So You Want To Be A Wizard needed to look like.
It was a just-in-time addition, as the book was in copyedit at that point. I'd been groping around for something to fill in for the visual experience of falling down in front of a sports car that, when you sit up, appears to be smiiiiiiling at you. This happened to me with David Gerrold's Corvette, one time. But I knew that for SYW... I really needed something less, well, commonplace. And then the Lotus turned up right under my nose (around 5th and 30th or thereabouts, IIRC), and that was that.
Every now and then, one crosses my path in London, or here. Never fails to make me smile.

PROBLEM –
You’ve cleaned out the rooms. You stand on the threshold and look inward. A showroom stares back at you. Why are you still here? Why can’t you let her go? If you avoid the mirror, you still meet your own gaze in the sink. The water that fills it is still and clear. It’s fit for consumption - just like you. If you keep everything exactly the way that it is, will the water always be so clean?

No. The water won’t stay clear forever. It will stagnate. The green in your eyes will spread like algae. You wake up, stumble to your bathroom and wash your face with it. Six mornings a week, your dearest friend drives you both to your deaths, while the children that you wage war against scream in your ears.

He wants to put a replica of one of the abbeys and is about everybody fighting to trying to send I think it's a good idea it's going to be on Abbey road in New Vegas but it's going to have her full name and they might be another road Abby road design input it's after her and she was saying it and it's a great idea. Las Vegas is kind of a dumb cuz you can't get there you can't get to the casinos it takes too much effort and you're walking and walking and visit maybe 20 ways to get across and there's ways to take tunnels and a seven or more or so Cross roads from the express lane in the middle it sounds like enough. Cuz in the strip is like roadways and parking lots and park and ride it's probably the way to go and there's two strips he's thinking about an outdoor people mover or a tunnel that's top side it's like a corridor safety glass and you could get on and off just like the airport or you can walk through it and then Clement weather. Now you don't have to have security and to make that happen is going to have scooters to rent we can buy drinks and food newspapers having a shoe shine anybody outdoors with the carts too. And the wall is like a shrine and it's for her input and she would decide where it would go and how big it would be or they said they would get together on it it would have to be a certain casino of course it might even be ours and now she's excited about it. And she's from Ben Arnold's side and she looks like our son's great grandma. So people are wondering and yeah she's still around and may have been the one with a knife at the bowling alley and she has a good ideas and she helped with the lawn mower that's what worked and they work together and stuff so now Abby wants to and she's made a name for himself and her mom is actually pink and it's been Arnold's wife and not his sister. And yeah they'll look almost identical great grandma and her so she's going to have to have the same thing and be immortalized for the idea and it's the minis. They both have odd names she's pretty big almost 9 ft really that's why she's chunky. Do you have a street name is a very big input and there's an area that has these cars these minis in Britain like a block, with several mini dealerships and we're going to offer her one and she'll probably accept it Jesus and a casino opportunity just dropping chips on himself and she says the moulin rouge and now that was what he was saying. Aren't you says nothing rude so she has to come up with it and he thinks the women were going to have something and Hera is in on it and Abby is now in on it thank you casinos yeah somehow attached to a shopping area there's a lot of women's necessities in upscale items a Gucci bags Paris Hilton makeup decenza diamonds and so they get that. They like certain cars too but they would be elsewhere but you can put one in the lotus esprit and cars like that high performance mini the jazzed up mustang certain Ferraris and then we put them in there any requested dealer and the dealer would have to make a deal cuz they be selling cars.
We're going to put this in print in preliminary agreements and pink has an idea additional to the dealership. You make a lot made for minis and he didn't wait till she finished and it says sub contact and it's true never a real small cars and need to put a rental place there for rent minis and renting mini homes and cottages and also he says about time people are using the cooler it's not supposed to be warm inside a morgue and it's true. It's on the TV show NCIS San Diego and also they'll be sales of tiny homes and mini homes mobile homes we might try his relocatable homes and they're laughing and have like a showroom with all this mini stuff in it but the sales place would be down the road and it would show what they have all sorts of stuff trailers campers attachments accessories doodads upgrades travel carriers sticker kits anything to think of they're going to put this up and they're thinking of a casino for each of them I don't know maybe we should do it as a consortium and do the jewelry accessories necessities and a spa and our son said the last part

Trying to start my ideas and one of them is to head up Big Joe's pancake House and have the big cup of joe coffee brand and everything and Mac wants to help so I get that

1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo Concept Promised the Future (Part 2 of 2)
It might be said that the Carabo’s influence reached its peak around 1983, just as the last Japanese and American cars cast off their “European” affectations of the 1970s. The first, most-angular of Ford’s long-running Panther-platform cars were in showrooms. The Fox-body Mustang still carried its four-eyed visage. The Camaro and Firebird had just given up their curvaceous second-generation bodies in favor of more angular, compact forms. Mitsubishi’s geometric Starion and its Chrysler Corporation captive-import Conquest twin were on the scene, and Honda’s first-generation CRX entered production late that year. By then, the Countach had sprouted fender flares, but it had yet to adopt the disruptive strakes of the Anniversary model. The next year would see the debut of Ferrari’s Testarossa, whose softer, blunted shape would set the aesthetic tone for supercars well into the 1990s.
Ford’s Sierra and Audi’s “C3” 100 bucked the trend early, arriving in 1982. By the 1986 model year, when Ford adapted the Sierra’s jellybean styling for American tastes in the form of the Taurus and the Mercury Sable, the writing was on the wall. At the same time, the edge had begun to come off the edges in Japan. Honda/Acura’s Legend was essentially a softer take on the styling of the third-generation Civic that had preceded it, and the Civic followed suit shortly thereafter. The Camry received rounded corners during the same period, while Giugiaro’s long-running Lotus Esprit was replaced by Peter Stevens’s rounder revamp in 1987. And finally, the Carabo’s indirect descendent, the Lamborghini Diablo, arrived in 1990, shutting the proverbial scissor door on its grandfather’s revolution.
Yes, in the years since we have seen Lamborghini trot out F-117–inspired designs in the form of the Reventón, Sesto Elemento, and Egoista, as well as the arrival of Cadillac’s Art & Science form language. While all of these made bold use of hard lines, none were as simple, plain, and sharp as the shape of things to come that the Carabo foretold. The future, it turned out, was just a phase.

I'm desperately trying to look for the specific model of Lotus that you referenced in the first of the Young Wizard series. I've been wanting to draw a storyboard for a long while for it and for some reason Google is useless.

スターピース 倉俣史朗 倉俣さんを代表するモチーフのスターピースです。内装材としていくつかの店舗で大々的に使われてたものですが、一部家具にも使われていました。いわゆるテラゾーを倉俣式に作ったものです。色とりどりの廃材ガラスを砕いて混ぜたというもの。倉俣さんのアクリル作品にも劣らない美しさがあります。 こちらは80年代の最初期に作られたブロック状のものです。スターピースは製造方法の性質上、個体により雰囲気に差があります。特にガラスの色どりや表情な��ですが、今まで色々と��た中でもこちらのものは個人的にはいい雰囲気だと思います。 また床材でなくブロックなので、置きやすく飾りやすい点もいいと思います。 Star Piece Shiro Kuramata Since I have had a few question about Star Piece, I will explain what this is. Star Piece is designed and developed as interior or exterior material. Mainly floor material. Terrazzo mixed in disposed glasses that were broken into small chips. It is famous story that coke bottle was used. In some of Kuramata’s interior such as Issai Miyake shop or Esprit showroom, Star Piece was used on floor, sometimes for furniture in there. He adopted it for Kyoto table in the Memphis collection. floor material of Star Piece was sold later. Due to production process, Appearance and atmosphere of Star Piece are all different. This block model is from early age probably 1983 or 1984 made. I feel this Star Piece has poetic.
