AUGHHH YESSSS I HAVEEE I mean I have an au where they meet in their 40s-50s and fall in love later in life which I hold very dearly but that’s more middle aged— elderly osoeri is sooo cute I think you hit it nail on the head that they’d still be very goofy and childish and cause even more scenes because they’re old and care less about their consequences LOL

Erina in her 40s-50s had gotten a bit insecure and dressed less flashy getting older but when she becomes older older she gets back into dressing up all the way being a cutie old gyaru again <3 and Osomatsu is a lazy old man who mostly wears robes but yes they would def still wear couples clothes… they still chase each other around even if they’re slow and have weak hips… chewing each other with their gums.. life is slower there’s not much going on but they find something to do everyday with each other… taking walks and yes feeding the birdies and koi.. and if u thought Osomatsu was intense at mahjong back then he goes crazy gambling at the old folks home!!! A lot of handholding and wandering together..

hi, thanks for the q! (some spoilers for late game P5T under the cut)

first things first, i think it's badass! I didn't know ernesto's name/inspiration until the game came out haha!

ultimately, i think it says more about toshiro than erina! toshiro's persona is tied to his perception of eri and her influence on him, so it's more about how his true self was shaped by her desire for justice. i think she revolutionized him, and he needed to open up to see what was unacceptable and demanded change. i think it also means erina and toshiro COMBINED is what creates a revolutionary political leader

and che guevara is The Leftist Icon, right? while im honestly a little surprised atlus chose someone so closely associated with marxism, erina is a guerilla military leader and functions like a proto-ernesto... so it's kinda like a pokemon evolution to me?? LOL

ultimately, I think many revolutionary figures would work as a comparison! maybe eri has an awakening sometime in the future and her own persona is reflection of a more calculated politician like toshiro? two sides of one coin y'know?

[The following will NOT contain spoilers for TEVI, but is a lengthy rant with basically no direction. Viewer Discretion Is Advised]

There were issues with TEVI's story, and I fully enjoyed it regardless of them, and the music is really incredible.

But the gameplay. Oh boy the gameplay (somewhat affectionate).

To start with, I like the crafting system. Not only is it pretty good game-wise, but it really helps emphasize that component of Tevi as a character.

I like the orbitars, they have some really good options, and their whatever it is Burst Gauge thing is pretty neat too, although can be a bit confusing to try to switch around to the one you want while you're busy fighting, as it's desire to add more quality detail over Ribbon's ui actually kind of hurts it. In RR, Ribbons attack options are color coded, and while switching them not only does the bar near your health change but there's also a prompt near your character. In TEVI that's still pretty much the case but since they're icons that are color coded to the two orbitars themselves, trying to swap between them without looking near your health bar can be a bit frustrating when you use the wrong one. C1+C3, S1+S3 look functionally alike, though C2 and S2 are a little more distinct in terms of icon of the others of the same type. Granted you'll never really be confused on if you're on S or C (which I was on S for most of the time, holy fucking shit does S1 kick ass).

Supposedly ranged builds are pretty powerful, but I mostly used melee, using charged shots to add damage, as one generally did in RR outside of 0% runs, especially as that seems to be encouraged in TEVI due to the amount of sigils that change attacks at certain combo levels, and combos in general are a mostly melee thing, unless you're using basic shots and then you're probably using mana and depriving yourself of charged shots. But maybe magic sigils fix that problem, again I mostly did melee so I wouldn't know. Maybe I could try doing a magic run, it seems like a game I'd like to play again as I did with RR.

Speaking of which, Cocoa Mode 2.0 with Cocoa 2.0 in Vena. Please. I need this. I loved Cocoa's playstyle. I loved her bombs. I want it back. And I'm sure we'll probably get it back since they're working on DLC.

In terms of character design, while I do miss the very gay all girl cast of RR, I do love TEVI's characters (yes even the men, they're good characters), and I do find it hilarious (and comforting to an extent) that despite the changes in theming and in character aesthetics, TEVI continues RR's tradition of not allowing characters to wear pants. Well, quite a few do, but for the most part everyone is still pants-less. Yet also with significantly more details to off put that so the game also doesn't feel as sexualized as RR does. Like just compare Tevi to Erina. They're both wearing bunny suits and have ears, and yet Tevi has a lot of details that put that off to the point that you might not even realize that's what it's supposed to be, with the belt and pouches, the leg strap, whatever the hell she's doing with like some kind of coat or jacket. The characters also feel a lot more developed in TEVI. I mean RR's cast had character to them, but most of it was based on character tropes and "oh yeah she's hella gay, but for Character D, unlike Character C who's gay for Character B who seems gay for Character F but will probably come around to C eventually." But none of them have character moments like what happens throughout TEVI's story. Which I would love to go on a tangent about, and might on a separate post, but not yet (see: top of post).

Also, voice acting???? I do like it, even though I don't really understand Japanese at all, it does still add tonal indications that really emphasize the energy of not only what people are saying, but also of the character themselves. If a character is feeling really emotional, on the verge of crying, you can feel that in the VA, if they're starting to get annoyed, you can feel that. If they're very currently not taking their job seriously and are basically on a vacation, you can feel that in their energy. Along with the words themselves and the character sprites to go along with it, character dialogue feels so much more advanced than in RR. TEVI's story can be a little dark, and sometimes you can hear the effects the events are happening on the main 3 through their voices. There's times you can hear Tevi's voice cracking with just pure unadulterated rage and anguish, and I love that. You can hear characters falter as they realize the full scope of what was happening just outside of their vision all their lives, all the things they never knew, were never told. And I think the VA work really contributes positively to that, even if you don't listen to the full thing. You can hear it in just the first couple words of each dialogue.

I guess that kinda concludes my rant. Standard recommendation that you should play both TEVI and Rabi-Ribi, and I look forward to the DLC of TEVI and eventually when RR2 comes out. Unless you hate metroidvanias. Then they may not be for you. Ender Lilies and Ender Magnolias (which is still in EA during the posting of this) are also pretty good. Hollow Knight and Cave Story+ too. Also Dust: An Elysian Tail, Lost Ruins, Touhou Luna Nights.

Today on P5T, our wet-blanket adult companion continues to be kind of soggy. Also cake, a grand time in the Velvet Room, and my complete inability to pronounce one of our new skills!

……sir, stop doing that pose. That’s not your pose.

Anyway, apparently it’s fine to namedrop Shido and Yaldabaoth in the notes, but the Thieves are still not allowed to talk about them in actual dialogue. Fingers still crossed we get a Maruki note. Come on, Atlus, you cowards.

The Velvet Room’s forge is finally up and running, so it’s time to fuse some personas. It’s… a little strange, because now each persona has an inherent skill, and then can inherit ONE and ONLY ONE skill from its component personas. Which… kind of sucks, because there’s a lot of good skills. We’re using the sub-persona system from PQ2, but Erina’s not allowed to have one because she doesn’t have a core persona. Lavenza is basically like “something is suppressing the power of the Wild Card, but now everyone can use sub-personas.”

She’s having a grand time working the forge, though. We should let Lavenza have even more heavy equipment and machinery.

She also gives you a smartphone app that allows you to reach the Velvet Room from the battlefield, because sometimes there are multiple battles in a row before you can go back to the hideout. Which, hell yeah, but also, Atlus stealing Jade’s blue phones. Add another thing to the list. XD

(I’m joking, of course, but still. The list of things Atlus has “stolen” is like 15 things long by now. XDDD)

So far the main difference between Zenkichi and Toshiro (other than the fact that one is primarily called by his first name) is that Toshiro flagrantly does not want to be here. They’re both kind of concerned about the Thieves –

– but Toshiro’s concern absolutely comes from a place of not wanting this, or like, any situations to be happening. He’s constantly wanting to rethink any of the plans that involve danger, he can’t fight, he’s always prepared to run away, and he’s just basically kind of… indecisive? Ryuji admits at least once that he has a good point about not charging in there, but he wants people to listen to him when he’s not really being helpful in the current situation.

He’s willing to listen to orders when it involves leaving, though.

(So does that mean Erina's the Thieves' age? I can’t tell how old anyone is. Toshiro is described as a young politician, so like… early thirties?)

...that works.

So we’ve retrieved Ryuji and Haru after a clash at the armory, which just leaves Makoto and Yusuke under Marie’s control. The scouts bring work that she’s finally making final preparations for her wedding, because she’s found the groom at last!

Place your bets: Is this Yusuke, Akira, or Toshiro? The Thieves think it’s Yusuke, and set off for the town square to rescue both him and Makoto from the terrible fate of marrying this crazy lady. They’re baking a massive cake in the square, and have put the captured rebels in it? This lady is kind of actually the worst, what the fuck.

It’s a trap, of course. Brainwashed Makoto and Yusuke show up, and announce with disgust that Lady Marie doesn’t want a penniless brat like Yusuke, she wants Toshiro! ...thank goodness. Because if she wanted Joker, I’d have even more questions about her mental state. We go bravely into battle to save our friends by capturing the flag, but after a long fight, when Erina charges to plant our banner in place of the destroyed one, she gets shot! There’s blood! And Toshiro definitely knows her at least subconsciously through his amnesia, because THIS is the thing that gets him to stop being a wet blanket, and sprint through a hail of gunfire to get to Erina.

Genuinely thought for a second he was going to get a persona right here. But no, he just makes sure Erina’s stable, snatches up the flag, and charges in to claim the victory.

Despite freeing all the Thieves, the battle has taken a lot out of everyone, and Marie shows up in person with a goddamn army. It’s a bleak situation, and Joker can offer to distract her so everyone can escape, but for once, he doesn’t have to. The other rebels charge so that the Thieves can get Toshiro and Erina to safety, and we all flee back to Leblanc to figure out what to do next.

That’s where I stopped for the evening, with everyone trying to recover from getting beaten half to hell. I’m assuming that now that we have a full company of Thieves, we’re going after Marie directly, so we’ll see how that goes! The battles seemed easy at first, but they’ve been getting more challenging, so I’m curious how a Major Boss Fight will go.

I got a fusion accident in the Velvet Room, and the forge blows up. It’s hilarious even if it means Lavenza got blasted. XD

Morgana has a tearful sprite when you have to leave the rebels behind, continuing the trend of great Morgana faces.

And, finally, one of the skills on Haru's skill tree is a combination of healing and ailment cure. Which makes sense, for the first-level spell, but the second one…

I don’t know what it is, but for some reason I have so much trouble saying that second one. I get it on a theoretical level, but actually saying it out loud is not working. XDDDDDDD I guess they combined these because they didn’t want more branches on the skill tree, but… ugh.
