I had never seen any of them this happy. It was an appreciative happiness. Everyone understood that the happiness had been fought for, held onto for dear life, and could be ripped away at any moment. But for now, there was happiness. Peace. Not peace and quiet. A loud peace. A peace that exclaimed itself after an era of being stifled.

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 119
Smithy and Luke are called to a house where noone has seen the occupant for a while. They arrive to a rather telling bad smell and find a young boy just after they find the body. Luke gives chase but loses him and returns to Smithy who informs him he's reported it as suspicious death due to the wound on the forehead. The two officers have to wait for Gina to arrive so spend the time playing cards - which Smithy uses to half let on to Luke that he knows the truth about his sexuality. Later Luke confronts Smithy who takes the opportunity to reaffirm his opinion of Luke from when they were PC's together - "You're a coward and a liar", accusing him of ruining Kerry's life by marrying her when he knew he was gay.
Gina's day goes from bad to worse when she now has four missing officers, June, Jim, Tony and Polly who have been trapped in a cellar whilst working a MISPER (Missing Persons case). As if it's not bad enough it's Jim and Marie's wedding day! And given that this is The Bill it's not enough trauma for the day, lets throw in a gas leak (brushing right over the four friends having a fall out in said cellar and Jim and June very nearly sharing a kiss right as they're rescued).
In the end Luke doesn't have to worry about Smithy outing him - because Kerry furiously outs him during a 'speech' at Jim/Marie's wedding reception after being told that he's telling everyone there that the only reason they split up is because she lost their baby.
