you cheered as the cars sped past you. you noticed a familiar black 2019 dodge challenger and jumped excitedly.

“the8! the8! the8!” you chanted along with the crowd. you moved to raise your arms above your head but instead you ended up smacking someone in the face. you turned to your side and noticed your husband grimace as he held his nose.

“oh my gosh! joshua! are you okay?!” you asked him, worried you had damaged his nose enough to cause bleeding. “here, hold on.”

you stepped forward and removed his hand from his face. you leaned forward and tried to inspect his injury but joshua turned his head, making you frown.

“joshua, honey, let me see. i need to make sure you’re okay.”

joshua turned his face towards you and tried to smile but it came out as grimace. “it’s fine, my nose is just a little sore. see? i’m not even bleeding.”

you scoffed and rolled your eyes but smiled nonetheless. “well maybe if you weren’t so worried about making money from your bets then you would have been watching to make sure you weren’t hit.”

it was joshua’s turn to roll his eyes.

“it’s called doing business. besides, you were too busy cheering for your favorite racer than paying attention to your husband,” he sulked and you playfully punched him in the arm.

“you big baby, we’re watching a race. i’m obviously going to be cheering for my favorite racer.”

joshua rolled his eyes again but smiled at you nonetheless. the two of you just looked at each other for a moment, lost in your own world as the people around you continued to be rowdy, their loud cheering fading into the background.

“-the winner is the8! congratulations!” the announcement of the8’s win brought you back to reality, joshua’s eyes widened and he looked down at his phone, a wide grin forming in his face.

you knew today was another successful night for him.

despite joshua now paying attention to his phone, you smiled fondly. never in a million years would you have thought you would be here, standing next to joshua cheering for your favorite racers.

when you first met, he was quite secretive, never letting anyone become close enough to him to know about his hobbies or anything personal to him. but here you were, the lucky one that he chose to share his life with. including his secret racing career.

“thank you joshua.”

joshua looked up from his phone and glanced at you, a look of confusion crossed his face. “what for?”

“for letting me the one for you.”

joshua’s confusion turned into a look of fondness and he softly chuckled, his eyes closing to form an eye smile.

no words needed to be spoken, his gentle smile and look of adoration told you everything.

“wait!” you shouted suddenly, “i need to get the8’s autograph, i’ll be right back!”

joshua, who was stunned from your sudden outburst, stood silently for a few seconds before cackling loudly.

“i can’t believe you ruined the mood just to get the8’s autograph!” he exclaimed.

“no more time can be wasted, the8 is more important right now.”

and with that you began to run towards the8’s parked car.

“get me a signature too! i need to boast my winnings tonight!” joshua shouted after you.

“only if you buy me a new dodge challenger too!” you shouted back at him.

“y/n!” you giggled at the exasperation in his voice.

yeah, you would never trade this for anything.

you had lost your friends the moment you entered the house. mingyu had left you and wonwoo in favor of dancing with his girlfriend and wonwoo had left to find “something to drink”. wonwoo didn’t come back so you assumed he had found someone for the night.

but now that you haven’t seen neither one of them, you have decided to just send them a quick text letting them now you are leaving the party in case they remembered you.

you walked out of the house and shivered at the bitter cold of the night. it was already half past midnight and you didn’t have a ride as both of your friends were off who knows where. you decided to get an uber as you didn’t want to risk getting lost on your way back home as your apartment was half an hour away.

as you waited, you decided to keep warm by doing a few jumping jacks and blowing hot air into your cold fingers. just as you were about to check your phone to see if your request had been accepted, a black car came into view.

the driver slowed down near you and rolled down the window.

“are you here for an uber?”

even thought the outside lights of the house were dim, you noticed the man was dashingly handsome and didn’t seem to be creepy.

you smiled and replied, “yes, isn’t it too late for you to be driving?”

the man chuckled, “trust me, i make more money driving in the middle of the night than i do during the day. are you going to get in or do i have to tie you up and make you get inside?”

your facial expression must’ve been comical because the man laughed loudly at your scared face.

“i’m kidding, if i wanted to kidnap you i would have already. c’mon, it’s too cold outside and the heat inside the car is escaping.”

you silently got in the car and didn’t say anything else, ignoring the uneasy feeling in your gut.

“so, y/n, that’s your name right?” the man looked at you from the rearview mirror. “my name is junhui. where would you like me to drop you off?”

“would it be okay if you drop me off a block away from the address i gave you?” you wanted to get off as soon as possible. junhui’s charming smile had morphed into something more dark, almost sinister.

“sure.”

and with that curt reply, junhui looked away from you and began driving.

the atmosphere turned cold, almost as cold as the outside despite the heater being on. you didn’t know what to say in order to break the ice cold atmosphere so instead, you decided to check your phone.

you saw a notification letting you know that your request was accepted a few minutes ago. what caught your eye however was the message you received once you opened the app.

hey it’s your uber driver, i’m outside.

you gasped and you looked up from your phone to notice that junhui’s mouth seemed to get larger and larger.

his mouth opened to reveal rows upon rows of razor sharp teeth and you frantically opened the door, barely managing to jump out of the vehicle as one of junhui’s, or should you say creature, hands reached to grab you.

you fell with a heavy thump against the concrete and you felt the air leave your lungs, leaving you gasping for air as you curled into yourself from the pain.

you heard the screeching of tires and rapid footsteps. before you knew it, you were looking into the yellow eyes of a tall, disfigured creature. its long limbs reached for you and its head leaned down towards you.

the last thing you felt was the feeling of its teeth sinking into your neck.

last night, one college student was reported missing and the remains of a body were found. the remains have yet to be identified but it is believed to be that of wen junhui, the reported missing student. he was last seen leaving his apartment around midnight.

"love?" a deep, husky voice groggily whispered into your ear. you tried to roll over unto your back but a muscular arm wrapped around your waist held you tightly back against a hard chest.

"hmm? it's too early chan, go back to sleep."

you felt chan mutter against your hair and you smiled.

it was the morning after your second anniversary and you could feel you lower region ache from the strenuous activities the two of you participated in last night. you had been a little to excited and chan being the whipped man that he was, complied with your every whim.

in all honesty, ever since your divorce from your ex-husband, you were hesitant to start dating again, especially when chan was too eager to "court" you, as he liked to call it.

however, you were more than glad that chan was willing to wait for you to be ready. he never pressured you to rush things, even if that meant he had to start from square one.

"chan look out!" you exclaimed right as chan was about to be shot down by the enemy in call of duty. he screeched as he ducked behind you, causing you to die in place of him.

you felt your eye twitch.

"lee chan! if you don't stop being a coward and hiding behind me every time you are about to be killed, i'll tell wonwoo to replace you as my gaming buddy."

chan immediately clung unto you like a baby, looking at you with puppy eyes and pouting at you.

"but y/n!" he whined, "you promised to protect me from anything!"

"that does not include video games, you small otter!"

you gently slapped his arm and attempted to remove his grip on your waist but he only wrapped his arms tighter around you.

you looked at him, a feeling of fondness washing over you as you saw how this adult-baby clung unto you almost 24/7. you would have thought that from your first meeting, that chan would be against any type of physical affection but he proved you wrong when he would constantly shower you with hugs and cuddles whenever he could.

you smiled as you remembered the beginning of your friendship with chan. back when you were still reluctant to accept any type of physical contact, let alone a confession from him. and yet, you were beginning to fall for him even if he was oblivious to it.

"chan, i want to say first and foremost, thank you for being so patient with me when you could have just left me to deal with my heartbreak by myself and find a significant other that isn't as broken as i am—"

"y/n, i'm going to ask you to be quiet for a moment." chan grabbed your hands, forcing you to stop blabbering as his warm fingers wrapped around your cold ones.

"but..." you traced off when you saw the stern look chan sent you.

"you are the most wonderful person i have ever had the pleasure to meet. yeah, you're right. i could have left you to alone and find someone who wasn't so persistent on being slow with things but the truth is, the moment we met, i fell for you. i couldn't stand the sight of someone so vulnerable crying by themselves so i decided to invite you over to my apartment because i wanted to be the one to comfort you. i wanted to be the one to hold you close to my chest as you cried to let out your negative feelings. i wanted to be the one you chose to live your life with. so never speak so bad of yourself, you provided me with a ray of hope in this cruel world and i want you to know that if it weren't for you, i'd probably be homeless right now."

by the time chan stopped speaking, your eyes were already brimmed with tears. your heart swelled at the words chan spoke. you couldn't believe you have been given a second chance at love. and with a wonderful man at that.

"thank you so much chan."

you leaned forward and pressed your lips against his in a chaste kiss.

"sometimes i wonder why you chose to wait for me, but i'm glad you haven't given up on me. chan, would you be willing to accept me as i am? are you willing to start a new chapter of my life with me?"

chan smiled warmly at you and replied, "y/n, no matter how much you have gone through or how much you'll continue to change as you grow older, i'll be willing to be there every step of the way."

tears ran down your face but you didn't care as you leaned forward once again and pressed your lips against chan's, your salty tears falling in between the kiss.

"y/n? why are you crying?" chan's groggy voice brought you back to reality.

you wiped your tears, surprised you started to cry at the memory.

"remember when i asked you to become a part of my life? not as my friend but as my lover?" you sniffled.

chan nuzzled into your neck as he hummed.

"i remember. that was our first kiss and i remember feeling so happy finally being able to be with the person who mattered most to me."

you giggled from his nose tickling you. however, there was something you wanted to ask him.

"don't you ever wonder what would have happened if we never met?"

chan grunted, "no."

"how come?"

chan let go of your waist and turned you around, the two of you finally looking at each other.

"because there's no need to dwell in what could have or could have not happened when i have finally found the happiness i have been looking for."

you couldn't help but to let a few stray tears fall, chan wiping each one away lovingly.

"in case i haven't told you already, i love you chan."

chan chuckled but nonetheless replied, "not today you haven't."

"meanie," you gently slapped his chest and started to turn around again when he pulled you forward and pressed your head against his chest.

"i love you too, y/n. today, tomorrow, and forever."

"why am I grieving for someone who isn't even dead?" you sobbed into wonwoo's chest, his strong arms wrapped around you. the warmth radiating from him warmed your cold skin.

"shh, it's okay sweetheart, let it out."

wonwoo was your childhood best friend. he's always been there for you since the beginning. when you spoke your first word, he smiled fondly at you when he heard his name come from your small lips.

"won...u?"

when you won first place in the one mile event at your school track meet, he picked you from the ground and spun you around, his fresh mint breath fanning your face as he cheered with you.

and even now, when seokmin broke up with an hour ago at your favorite coffee shop, wonwoo answered your phone call and brought with him your favorite chocolate bar and his hoodies to comfort you.

why couldn't you have fallen in love with him?

this thought plagued your mind constantly. you knew wonwoo had fallen in love with you. he confessed to you during your last year of high school when you told him about your plans of studying abroad for your undergraduate degree.

but despite him being patient with you, it seemed as if your stubborn heart will never accept his love.

"wonwoo, why must i fall in love with the wrong people over and over again?" you lift your eyes and look at wonwoo through your tear-filled eyes.

his sad smile broke you and when he spoke, "because you can't control what your heart wants," a new wave of fresh tears fell from your eyes and you leaned forward.

"hao?" you gasped out as you ran further away from the townspeople running after you with knifes and bats.

"i'm almost there, don't worry love," minghao's voice could be heard coming from your almost shattered phone as you gripped it tighter and closer to your ear. "just give me a few more minutes, i'll call you when i am close."

the line went silent.
