«Потяг»

Запланував поїздку на семінар з ушу з майстром Му Юйчунем у Одесі. Купив квиток у зворотній бік із Одеси в Ужгород. Так як туда в Одесу квитків не було. Знайшов у інтернеті можливість на тікетс юей, заповнення замовлення якщо з’являться квитки то тікетс юей купляє квиткок для мене. Дав дані картки. Але забув, що це нова моя картка і на ній обмежений інтернет ліміт купівлі. Прийшла смс від тікетс юей, що квитки з’явились, але оплата не пройшла з причини обмеженого ліміту моєї картки. Збільшую ліміт. Роблю повторне замовлення на тікетс юей з толерантності, так як квиток я вже міг купити через приват 24 одразу бо був цілий вагон квитків. Гроші знялись, квиток тікетс юей купив одразу. Але побачити його та видрукувати я не зміг протягом доби. Виникла підозра що квитка немає. Наступний день їду автобусом Ужгород – Білки де телефонує працівниця тікетс юей, вибачається що оформлення купленого квитка з якихось причин не пройшло. І питає в мене, чи мені ще актуально потрібний квиток до Одеси? Відповідаю – так. Питає далі чи будуть від мене якісь побажання, стосовно місця розташування у вагоні? І чи потрібно їм мені ще телофонувати… Відповідаю, що місце у середині вагону, і хай просто куплять вже і вишлють мені той квиток. Але подумав, ще не мусить бути 13 місце, чомусь не сказав про це. Присилають квиток, читаю місце 13. Але мені чомусь несподобалось такий варіант місця у середині вагону. Приїхавши у Білки, анулюю цей квиток на тікетс юей, і купляю у приват 24 новий квиток з місцем 45.

Через місяць. 24 травня, 2018.

Потяг Ужгород – Одеса, 10 вагон, 45 місце.

Жінки чекали біля вагона. Створили чергу.

Я спитався:

- хто крайній?

У відповідь почув:

- ви у 10 вагон?

Відповідаю:

- так!

Жінки:

- то ми вас чекаємо!

Жінки чекали коли прийде чоловік.

Жінки чекали, щоб чоловік першим зайшов до вагона.

Провідниця, молода жінка, не впускала жінок до вагону першими. Щоб першим зайшов чоловік.

Заходжу у вагон. Бо я був першим чоловіком сьогодні котрій підійшов до вагону номер 10.

Зайняв місце номер 45.

Написав смс до Володі Федорцова: «Володя привіт) сів у потяг на Одесу) То семінар у тому лагері Юний залізничник, що завжди? Відповідь «Да», наступне смс від нього: «Єдь давай))». Смс переписка чомусь мені здалась не закінченою.

Під час подорожі потягом думав, що буду давати цікавого на майстер класі з малювання на семінарі з ушу з майсторм Му Юйчунем на котрий я їхав до Одеси. Можливо концептуальне мистецтво, чи ленд арт, чи щось нового. Проїзжаю Карпати, Карпати це акумулятор для людини. Феномен Карпат. Феномен природи.

Подумав про перформанс смс.

Пишу смс до Наталії Волкової: « Привіт) Проїхав: Карпати – Львів - Підволочиськ – Волочиськ – Тернопіль – Хмельницький – Деражню – Жмеринку – Вапнярку – Крижопіль – Попелюхи зараз будуть)). У відповідь два квадрати порожні. Можливо це щось позитивне, але мій телефон кнопковий не приймає від смартфонів знаки не літери.

Згадав, що можливо потрібно продовжити смс переписку з Володьою Федорцовим, головою одеської федерації ушу.

Написав йому смс:

«Привіт) Проїхав: Перечин - Вел.Березний – Самбір – Карпати – Львів – Підволочиськ – Волочиськ – Тернопіль – Хмельницький – Деражню – Жмеринку – Вапнярку – Крижопіль – Попелюхи – Кодима – Абамеликове – Подільск – після Подільська чоловік вчепився у закриті двері вагона на ходу. Провідниця зірвала стоп кран, їду, зараз під’їзжаємо до Роздільна -1))».

Жінка ветеран труда отримує дві пенсії і від України, і від Росії.

Вже у трамваї номер 18 котрим я їхав до 12ї станції великої Фонтанної отримав смс – відповідь на моє смс, від Воді Федорцова зі смайликом. Напевно він зрозумів, що я роблю щось своє…

1.06.2018. Потяг Одеса – Ужгород, вагон 10, місце 45. В Тернополі люди чекали на платфомі, щоб пройшов потяг, потяг котрим я їхав, щоб пройти перехід.

Подумав про те що як буде українською слово перформанс. Записав варіанти: діяння, роблення, рухання, чинення.

I planned a trip to the workshop with wushu Master Mu Yuichun in Odessa. I bought a ticket on the reverse side from Odessa to Uzhgorod. Since there were no tickets to Odessa (from Uzhgorod). Found on the Internet the opportunity to ticket, filling the order, if tickets appear, then “Ticket ua” buys a quotation for me. Gave the card data. But I forgot that this is my new card and its limited internet shopping limit. Having come from the ticker that the tickets have appeared, but payment did not occur due to the limited limit of my card. Increase the limit. I am making a second order for ticketing with tolerance, since I could buy a ticket through a “private 24″ at once, because there was a whole train car. The money came off, “Tickets ua” tickets bought right away. But to see it and print it I could not overnight. There was a suspicion that there was no ticket. The next day went by bus Uzhgorod - Squirrels where the employee “ tickets ua” calls , sorry that the registration of the purchased ticket for some reason did not pass. And he asks me whether I still need a ticket to Odessa? I answer - yes. Asked if there will be any suggestions from me about the location of the place? And whether they need me to call the phone ... I answer that the place in the middle of the carriage, and let it just buy it and send me that ticket. But I thought, there still is not the 13th place, for some reason not saying about it. I'm sending a ticket, I read 13. But for some reason I did not like this option in the middle of the carriage. Having arrived at the Squirrels, cancel this ticket for a ticket, and I will buy a “private 24″ new ticket with a place 45.

While traveling on a train, I thought I would be interested in drawing a master class at a seminar on wushu with master Mu Yuichun, which I was driving to Odessa. Perhaps conceptual art, whether lend art, or something new. I'm going through the Carpathians, Carpathians are a battery for a person. The Carpathian Phenomenon. The phenomenon of nature.

Thinking about performing system.

I write sms to Natalia Volkova: "Hi!") Driveed: Carpathians - Lviv - Podvolochisk - Volochysk - Ternopil - Khmelnytsky - Derazhnu - Zhmerinka - Vapnjarka - Kryzhopil - The Caves will now be)). This fic feels - very small, very claustrophobic, and yet very painful. It’s all about the breaths, and two promises Lin Chen has made.

Meng spends a cold winter caught in a war with two fronts--the Greater Yu army on one front, and a dying strategist on the other. It's basically ten thousand some-odd words of Meng-feels, Meng&Lin Shu bromance, and the slow breaking of a man's heart as he watches his best friend die.

This fic. This fic. This fic sliced my heart open, its Meng struggling to come to terms with the fact that Xiao Shu is dying, Meng struggling to win the war, and the cold. The cold is a character in its own right, it permeates the fic, hangs over everything. This fic took me by the hand and said “you think you already love Meng Zhi and know what it did to him to have to watch his friend die? let me show you.”

It’s Mei Changsu dying but it’s also all the other ways that being at this second Meiling hurt Lin Chen as well, and yet he chooses to be there, because Mei Changsu is there. It’s all the history between them, all the love, and all the hurts and both are equally real and present. Read with a tissue to hand.

This fic sets out events slightly different to how they are implied in canon, but it is canon compliant in all the most important ways. All the most painful ways. I finished this not knowing if this way was better or worse but definitely knowing that I’d been well and truly stabbed. Jingyan :(

Oh this one is exquisitely painful. I don’t know how to say more without spoiling it so - just read.

This fic really, really doesn’t spare the knives :( Fei Liu’s reaction to his Su-gege’s death and Lin Chen’s helplessness in response is so so heartbreaking and there are no easy answers.

However I have read the first few paragraphs while squinting in between my fingers and I can confirm it is beautifully written. Also multiple people who are stronger/more masochistic than I have read it and told me it is amazing so. If you want to be EVEN SADDER go forth and stab yourself.

This is another hard one to rec without giving away fundamentals of the plot so lets just say the knives are bright and shiny and Mei Changsu is perfect and all the other characters are as well, especially Lin Chen. Read if you want to be even sadder/ want to think ‘well, MCS could have made it so much worse!)

Crying can help the healing! And also its nice to imagine the other characters finding ways to grieve and cope and recover. (projecting who me?)

Summary:

Surprisingly enough, Lin Chen can relate to that.

This is one of my favourite fics. Jingyan’s grief is so powerful and real and he is determined to be a good Emperor and live up to Xiao Shu’s belief in him, but it is so painful to see how he is falling apart. I love his developing friendship with Lin Chen, and the way they are able to come to support each other, and Fei Liu looking after Jingyan as well!

This fic focuses in on a really, really minor character - who will not be a minor presence at all in the world post drama. I love the way this fic builds her character up from the little we see of her in the drama, the way it layers rumour and history and reality. I love that it doesn’t shy away from the inequality between Jingyan and Lady Liu, but that it shows them both awkwardly doing their best and coming to a place of contentment in the end.

Okay fair warning this is my own fic but I wanted to throw it in here. Lin Chen decides to get Jingyan a dog. Because I love Jingyan and I just wanted him to have a dog to cuddle and make him smile. Jingyan’s dog is the Best Dog and all (most of) Jinling agrees.

AU Ending - it’s happier than canon! (Limbo under the low bar)

Fics where MCS is still dying of a terminal illness but at least he’s able to live a bit longer with those who love him. (MCS may argue with whether these are ‘happier than canon’ but he doesn’t get a vote)

Okay so there’s one chapter but its a long chapter and it feels like it works as a one shot (although I’m SO glad there’s going to be more!) This is an excellent, lovely, ensemble fic - it manages to pack so many characters in and they all gang up to lovingly bully MCS into taking better care of himself which is just my favourite thing ever. It’s so great to see them all together, there is excellent Nihuang and Jingyan, Consort Jing manages to bang some emotional intelligence into MCS (a miracle!!). It feels light hearted and genuinely funny but there is still a twist of very canon pain throughout the whole thing because Mei Changsu is still Mei Changsu and is Terrible at feelings.

This fic could also be called ‘Mei Changsu is the stupidest genius ever’ and I love it. It starts early in the series with a slight divergence which builds and builds over the series until we end up in a very different place. Mei Changsu just keeps digging himself deeper and deeper into his hole but he finally gets his head on straight just in time and I sniffled at the ending I’m not going to lie.

Lin Chen manages to drag MCS off on the trip as promised but MCS’ time is still trickling away. But it’s a wonderful trip! Lin Chen has all kinds of wonders planned (which are beautifully described and I want to go to all these places now!) Sadly Mei Changsu is determined to live up to his reputation as a party ruiner. Lin Chen just wants him to. Stop. Scheming!! This is a fic that made me laugh through my tears. This fic is just lovely. It could be called bittersweet but Jingyan is happy so I am happy! It blends supernatural spirits and boons with the canon universe beautifully - it opens with young Jingyan (pure noble water buffalo) saving a stranded water buffalo calf and being offered a boon in return. I don’t want to say too much more about the plot for fear of spoiling but it features 1) frustrated man-of-science Lin Chen, 2) protective Lie Zhanying 3) doting besotted Mei Changsu 4) Stubborn and happy Jingyan, and these are all four excellent things which you should go enjoy for yourself right now!

Ugh, this fic is so good! Lin Chen saves Mei Changsu’s life. Mei Changsu is Not Happy about it. Mei Changsu proceeds to piss of absolutely everyone who cares about him and have a massive identityy crisis and be miserable until he manages to pull himself out enough to accept the support everyone is pushing at him. Everyone is just so GOOD in this fic, especially Nihuang (who is justifiably furious at MCS, and gets to be angry at him which is super satisfying given what he puts her through in the series and in this fic) and Jingyan who is completely willing to wield his imperial power in order to force his best friend to get his head out of his own arse..

Even if this Lin Shu technically wasn’t the one lying and scheming and encouraging other people to hate him. The other thing I love is that even through there is no way Jingyan is going to let this Lin Shu go through the suffering that created Mei Changsu he still loves and misses Mei Changsu - and Mei Changsu’s memory has a strong presence all through this fic.

It’s a close Lin Shu POV, who is absolutely AMAZING, a beautiful disaster, who is so loved, has such a wonderful family around him, and then there is Mei Changsu. Lin Shu’s view of Mei Changsu is the best thing about the fic and I don’t want to say too much for fear of spoiling but it is SO good.

Keep in mind: -Notes are in small text -The / is meant to separate paragraphs (I'll use it when it gets too visually messy) Disclaimer : I only studied Japanese for a little while. AA dialogue is pretty simple though. Also English isn't my native language either. Feel free to correct me on anything wrong here. Also note that I'm not trying to make the translations sound natural, I'm mostly trying to explain what the words are saying, sometimes I'll be more literal than others. Translation =/= localization.

Phoenix 終わったな、御剣‥‥。 Owatta na, Mitsurugi... So, it's finally over, Edgeworth.

I'd say it's casual/formal, but the stuttering makes it stiffer, I feel. Also compared to how they behave in 3-5, I think it's very different. Will elaborate in a future post when I get to analyze that dialogue.

Edgeworth ‥‥ム。な‥‥なるほど。 ...Mu. Na.... Naruhodo. Mmm. I… I see. Note how he basically says Wright's butchered JP name, which is a pun for the game (it means 'I see' / 'I understand') but it also means that the gap between them is somewhat getting narrower. It could just be for comic relief, but...note that when he attempts to thank him the first time, he calls out to him with 'Naruhodou', but now on his second attempt he says 'Naruhodo' before trying to thank him. Unfortunately the subtletly and ambiguity of this cannot be localized. By the way, he also uses 'Naruhodo' before the final trial in T&T, will elaborate on in at a later date. (I don't know whether there are other times other than these two, I haven't analyzed enough transcripts yet)

コホン。 Gohon. ahem

う、うおおおおおおおおおっ！ U, Uooooooooh! Whooooooooooooop! This is, and I'm completely serious here, one of my most favourite scenes. Note the difference between Edgeworth's and Gumshoe's shouts: in the JP, 4 'O's are missing in Edgeworth's shout, while in ENG, 1 'O' is missing - the localization was careful enough to add that tiny difference, and although I am not sure why they reduced it to one single 'O', it's still interesting they differentiated them all the same.

‥‥‥‥‥‥ …

ダメだ。‥‥ヤッパリ、私なんか‥‥。 Dame da. ...Yappari, Watashi nanka... I… I feel foolish. literal translation: No, that's not right. As I thought, / someone like me... *'someone like me...' : the underlying message seems to be: 'As I thought, something like this/acting like this wouldn't fit someone like me'

Maya まあまあ、少しずつ慣れていきましょうよ。 Maa maa, sukoshi zutsu narete ikimashou yo. Don't worry. Take it a little at a time. You'll get used to it.

more literal translation: Come on, come on, little by little / let's get used to it! It seems to me Maya says it in a way to mean something like they'll do it together, so he shouldn't worry - implying he's not alone (anymore), again Japanese can be subtle so I'm not sure, but considering Maya's empathic character, I'd say that's what she meant. In any case, she's trying to encourage him. Very sweet! Phoenix （こんなスナオな御剣を　見るの、１５年ぶりだな‥‥） (Konna sunao na Mitsurugi o miru no, juugo-nen buri da na...) (It's been fifteen years since I've seen Edgeworth this… unguarded.)

more literal translation: It's been 15 years... since I've seen Edgeworth (act) this honest (with his feelings)... Phoenix is saying that it's been a long time since he's seen Edgeworth be honest/sincere with his feelings/upfront with his feelings. The localization gets the meaning across very nicely. Lotta おっ、いたいた！ O, ita ita! Hey, y'all!

Maya あ、ナツミさん！ A, Natsumi-san! Lotta!

Lotta いやー、アンタら。カッコよかったでー。 Iya, antara. Kakkoyokatta de. Y'all were great in there!

Edgeworth ム‥‥お、おおきに。 Mu... o, ookini. Er… thank y'all very much. ookini = 'thank you a lot' in Kansai dialect (which is the dialect Lotta uses) I find it adorably funny that first he tries to imitate Gumshoe to thank people and now he's trying Lotta's ways...

Lotta ウチには、最初からわかってたんやで！ Uchi ni wa, saisho kara wakattetan ya de! I knew you were innocent from the start, of course.

あんたが無罪だ、ってなあ！ Anta ga muzai da, tte naa! Just look at you! You wouldn't stick your hand in the cookie jar even if no one was there! The ENG adds a lot here which wasn't in the original. in the JP, she basically only says: 'From the start, / I knew! / That you were innocent!!' (I think this is mostly done to convey Lotta's character, since the dialect wouldn't have been enough here to convey that I believe)

Edgeworth ‥‥たしか、初日の検察側の証人だったような‥‥。 ...Tashika, shonichi no kensatsu-gawa no shounin datta you na... You… were the witness on the first day of the trial, weren't you.

Lotta まま。まあまあ。細かいこと、気にしなさんな！ Ma ma. Maa maa. Komakai koto, ki ni shinasan na! Yeah, well, let bygones be bygones, eh?

Phoenix ‥‥また、ずいぶんハンパな金額だな‥‥。 ...Mata, zuibun hanpa na kingaku da na... Huh. What a weird amount. I mean, it's not a little, but it's not a lot either.

Maya ‥‥ななな、なるほどくん！ ...Na na na, Naruhodo-kun! N-N-Nick!

小学校のころ、御剣検事が盗まれた給食費って、たしか‥‥！ Shōgakkō no koro, Mitsurugi-Kenji ga nusumareta kyūshoku-hi tte, tashika...! Wasn't that exactly the amount of lunch money that was stolen from Mr. Edgeworth in school!?

Phoenix さ‥‥３８００円‥‥？ Sa... 3800 en...? $38…!

ままま、まさか‥‥ Ma ma ma, masaka.... No… (I think the shock-induced stuttering in this line might be meant to parallel Maya's previous one. Cute!)

‥‥‥‥まさかああああッ！矢張、お前ェェェェッ！ ...Masakaaaaa! Yahari, omaeeee! No!!! Larry, it was you!!! There is a fun pun lost in translation here. Larry's JP name, Yahari, means 'after all/as expected/as I thought' - so Larry's name can be intended both as a vocative and a figure of speech here. "After all, it was you!" = "Larry, it was you!" The phrases basically overlap in JP, as if he were saying them at the same time.

Edgeworth 何をイロめきたっている？成歩堂。 Nani o iromekitatte iru? Naruhodou. What are you so surprised about, Wright?

Phoenix え？ E? Huh?

Edgeworth たしかに矢張は、あの日カゼで学校を休んでいた。 Tashika ni Yahari wa, ano hi Kaze de gakkou wo yasunde ita. Larry was absent that day from school, right?

だが、だからといって犯人でないという理由にはならん。 Daga, dakara to itte hannin de nai to iu riyuu ni wa naran. But that doesn't automatically rule him out as a suspect.

Phoenix え！ What?

Edgeworth １５年前の、あの日。 15 nen mae no, ano hi. Think back to that day, fifteen years ago.

休んだはいいが、タイクツだった矢張は、学校に来てみたのだろう。 Yasunda hai ga, taikutsu datta Yahari wa, gakkou ni kite mita no darou. Larry took the day off, but he was bored, he came in to school anyway.

そして、まあ‥‥、ちょっと手が伸びてしまったんだろうな。 Soshite, maa..., chotto te ga nobite shimatta ndarou na. Then he saw the money lying there… and the rest is history.

Larry 伸びちまったんだろうねえ、イヤハヤ、これが‥‥。 Nobichimattan darou nee, iyahaya, kore ga... I never was good at History! Heh… The joke is a bit different here, Edgeworth jokes that Larry's hand must have 'stretched out' , but I suppose 'slipped' is more apt. And Larry is like 'Yeah, guess it must have slipped!' The translation would be something like: Edgeworth: And, well, / his hand must have ended up slipping (must have slipped). Larry: Yeah, guess it must have slipped, / eheh, well...

御剣‥‥まさかお前、 ‥‥知ってたのか？ Mitsurugi... Masaka omae, ...Shitteta no ka? Edgeworth… you didn't know, did you?

Edgeworth ‥‥アヤシイとは思っていた。 ...Ayashii to wa omotteita. I suspected.

literal translation: I thought it was suspicious. (I find it endearing that he suspected but didn't say anything - despite how he acts, Edgeworth is really a softie most times, even towards Larry who he has the rightful urge to murder more often than not) いつもの矢張なら、お前をかばうのはオカシイ。 Itsumo no Yahari nara, Omae o kabau no wa okashii. I just couldn't picture Larry protecting you like he did that day.

みんなといっしょになって、ここぞとばかり責めたてただろう。 Minna to issho ni natte, Kokozo to bakari semetate daro. Everyone else was saying you did it. The whole class was against you, remember?

Phoenix ‥‥うむむむむ。 ... Umumumumu. Yeah… too well. Phoenix's blabbering is hilarious here. He's in utter denial. Like he's nodding at what he's saying but he's refusing the knowledge to enter his brain.

Edgeworth 成歩堂。もしかしたらお前は知らないかもしれないが、 Naruhodou. Moshikashitara Omae wa shiranai kamoshirenai ga, Wright, you may not know this, but we used to have a saying back in school.

この男は、こう言われていたんだ。 “事件のカゲにヤッパリ矢張”と。 Kono otoko wa, kou iwarete ita nda. "Jiken no kage ni yappari Yabari" to. "When something smells, it's usually the Butz." The saying actually means : 'In the shadow of an incident/trouble, after all, there is Larry' There is the usual pun 'yappari Yahari' so I think the localization of the saying and his name was done very well to render the original meaning.

Phoenix そのコトバなら、イヤというほど思い知らされてるよ！ Sono kotoba nara, iya to iu hodo omoishirasa reteru yo! I know, I know. I would translate this more to: 'If you're saying that, why didn't you tell me!'

Edgeworth ‥‥いやあ、成歩堂。まさか、キミが気づいていなかったとは。 ...Iyaa, Naruhodou. Masaka, Kimi ga kizuite inakatta to wa. Really, Wright. I'm surprised you didn't figure it out! '...Why, Wright. It can't be, / you hadn't realized.' This is so funny to me, in both versions. In JP it sounds a bit more teasing and cocky, but still. It sounds like to Edgeworth, shouting objection and reprimanding his classmates and teacher as a 9 year old was no big deal. So he didn't care to mention, thought Phoenix would figure it out. If not, no big deal. To Phoenix, it was life-changing. Phoenix is having a (mid) life crisis.

Larry 意外だねこりゃあ。 Igai da ne koryaa. Well, this is sure an unexpected turn of events, eh?

Phoenix ‥‥御剣。 ... Mitsurugi. Edgeworth…

Edgeworth ん？ N? Hmm?

Phoenix 言えよ！ Ieyo! You should have told me! Here it may look like a whole different thing but it's mostly that there is no other natural way to translate this. 'Ieyo' is just the imperative of the verb 'ieru', 'to tell'. It kinda gives the feeling of 'But (then) tell me, dammit!'

Maya まあまあ、なるほどくん。もう１５年前のコトでしょ？ Maa maa, Naruhodo-kun. Mou juugo-nen mae no koto desho? Now, now, Nick. It was fifteen years ago!

これって“じこう”ってヤツだよね？　御剣検事。 Kore tte "jikou" tte yatsu da yo ne? Mitsurugi Kenji. Don't you think the "statute of limitations" has run out, Mr. Edgeworth?

Edgeworth そういうこと、だな。 Souiu koto, da na. I'd say so, yes.

Larry そういうことだよ。 Souiu koto da yo. There you have it! In JP version, I found it funny how Larry parrots Edgeworth's words. 'Souiu koto' means 'it's like that'.

Phoenix ‥‥まったく‥‥。 ...Mattaku,,, Grr…

お前らにカンシャして弁護士になったぼくの立場はどうなるんだ？ Omaera ni kansha shite bengoshi ni natta boku no tachiba wa dou narun da? Where does that leave me!? I became a defense attorney because of what you two did!

Edgeworth 感動的なまでのお人よし、といったところだろうか。 Kandō-teki na made no o-hito yoshi, to itta tokoro darou ka. Well, I'd call you a goody-two-shoes to the extreme.

Larry とんだお調子モノ、とも言えるよナ！ Tonda o-chōshimono, tomo ieru yo na! Yeah! And you get worked up too easily, too!

Phoenix し、死刑だ！コイツを死刑にしてくれェッ！ Shi, shikei da! Koitsu o shikei ni shite kuree! D-death! The death sentence for both of you!

‥‥こんなことなら、検事になりゃよかったあ！ ...Konna koto nara, kenji ni narya yokattaa! Man, if I only had known, I'd have become a prosecutor!

Edgeworth ‥‥それは私も同じだ。 ...Sore wa watashi mo onaji da. The same goes for me, only the other way around…

“もしかしたら、自分は父親を撃ってしまったのかもしれない” "Moshikashitara, jibun wa chichioya o utte shimatta no kamoshirenai" For the longest time, I thought that I might have killed my own father. These are provided as literal phrases he thought: 'Could it be, I myself was the one that ended up shooting my father.'

“自分は罪人かもしれない” "Jibun wa zainin kamoshirenai" I thought I might be a criminal. "What if I'm a criminal, myself.'

‥‥私は、そういう自分を罰する意味もあって検事になった。 …Watashi wa, sou iu jibun o batsu suru imi mo atte kenji ni natta. I became a prosecutor in part to punish myself.

Basically the same, but instead of saying 'in part' he says that was one of the reasons. He says he became a prosecutor for that reason as well (among others), the reason being that of punishing himself. ‥‥こんなことなら、弁護士になりたかったよ。 ...Konna koto nara, bengoshi ni naritakatta yo. If I had known the truth, I might have become a defense attorney after all. 'If it were like this (if I had known), I would have wished to become a defense attorney.' The way he says it seems way more heartbreaking in Japanese. Naritakatta = wanted to become, which here becomes 'I would have wanted to become' because of context. I translated it as 'would have wished' because it seems more apt here. Naritakatta expresses a desire for something you had wanted in the past. 'I would have gone for being a defense attorney'... It indicates that someone wanted to become or achieve something at some point in the past, but for some reason, they were not able to fulfill that desire.

Phoenix ‥‥御剣。 ... Mitsurugi. Edgeworth…

Edgeworth かわるか、成歩堂。 Kawaru ka, Naruhodou. Want to switch, Wright? Says the same thing... and it sounds so resigned in both versions. It's curt, and their conversation ends just like that. Breaks my heart.
