Bianca Umali is Terra! Daughter of Sang'gre Danaya. Honestly, I am no longer surprised bc it has been circulating all over Enca's other fan pages. But I'm not mad, Bianca is absolutely gorgeous and a good actress as well.
Though at the back of my mind I was hoping that it will be another young actress bc she has already played Lawiswis (if I'm not mistaken) in Mulawin vs Ravena...which is in a way connected to the lore of Encantadia. Anyhoo I'm still very excited, idk if Glaiza (Pirena), Kylie (Amihan), Gabbi (Alena), Sanya (Danaya) and the rest of the 2016-2017 cast will still get to play their characters in Sang'gre. Ruru is doing Black Rider rn but bitch I need my Ybramihan wedding!!!
I wonder who's gonna be playing Cassandra, Adamus and Pirena's [unnamed] other daughter? I am so excited for more cast reveal, I will definitely be watching the entire series and I hope I can bring the 4Rs series back. I have a lot going on in my life right now but I'll find ways 😁😁

In 2012, my boss pitched creating a live-action version of Voltes V. She was told that it wouldn't fly because it would be effects-heavy, and the Filipino audience weren't into sci-fi stories. Not anymore.
In 2016, in the midst of writing for the Encantadia reboot/sequel, our director shared that he pitched a Voltes V movie to the bosses. He showed us a demo reel of what he and the effects company he was working with could do. I joked that it wasn't gonna fly. Because my boss already pitched it before, and she was shot down. But my boss, head writer and creator of Encantadia, said they could try to pitch it again.
Near the end of 2016, I was given the task to collect everything I could about Voltes V: episode guides, bestiaries, character sketches--everything. I trawled through ebay and bought the VCD set of what was aired in the Philippines back in the 70s. I even ended up with a vinyl record of the show's closing credit song from back then.
Before we finished writing for Encantadia, we were given the go signal to start pre-production on Voltes V. We didn't have approval from TOEI yet, but the rights holder here in the Philippines were confident that they would be cooperative. We just had to treat the material right.
In 2017, I had one of my biggest anxiety attacks. Followed by another. I let go of my projects, but I was told to keep working on Voltes V. We got our green light from our higher ups in 2018, but we still needed to get the approval of TOEI. And in between writing letters to TOEI, creating story maps, breaking down the character development from what the original material gave us--I was also given the task of writing the pilot script.
We got approval from TOEI in late 2019 or early 2020. Right before the pandemic. By then, we already had the story map plotted out, and the character beats figured into how the story would unfold. We cherry-picked the monsters that would come out in the series, keeping in mind that what's cheap for animation to do isn't cheap for the live-action version. So each monster we would use needs to have an impact on the story--and more importantly: the characters.
And then we went back to the pilot script.
I don't know what my higher-ups were looking for, but I wasn't bringing whatever it was apparently. Mixed in with my growing depression and the anxiety attacks that kept rearing its head in--I was second-guessing everything I was doing.
During this time, I was also part of another show that was already airing. Someone missed the script deadline, and while my boss was reminding me to send whatever draft of the Voltes V pilot script I was on at the time--our program manager thought I was the cause of delay for our airing show. I got an official memo, telling me I needed to shape up or face consequences.
This was in the middle of one of my bouts of depression.
I accepted the memo. My boss corrected our program manager, defending me. But it was too late. I already had the memo. And mixed in with everything going on in my personal life (which takes up around 70 to 75 percent of why I was depressed and anxious all the time), I was at my breaking point.
In 2020, the pandemic happened. Instead of reaching out, I kept myself locked away for three months from Day 1 of the initial lockdown. I didn't talk to anyone.
Month number 3 became 4. A friend found me on discord. Four became five. And six. And seven. And I never reconnected with anyone. There was a moment, late in 2020 when I thought maybe I am finally ready to go back.
And then, on my birthday in 2021, I get a visit from a high school friend who accused me of making up my anxiety and depression. Whatever strength I had mustered up went away.
It never came back.
It's 2023. Exactly two years since that fateful day when said friend went to my house to tell me I was lying about being depressed. And YouTube recommends me the trailer of the live-action Voltes V. It's finally coming out. And all I can say is...
I wish everyone who worked on it success.
I watched the trailer on mute. I think... I think it's a good thing I am no longer involved with it. But I still wish people will watch it and will like it.
And the long-short of it is... I think the trailer cemented for me the idea that I don't want any more birthdays to come after today.

So I watched the Mulawin Vs Ravena scene where Pirena and Lira guest star in, and OMG...
Lira’s God-like cellphone is STILL ALIVE.
That phone is the real MVP. Where on earth did she get that and how is it even alive after more than decades???

Encantadia 2016-17: Before the Finale
So now we're onto our second to the last episode, and things are heating up. While there are still some obviousy rushed "Huh?" Moments here and there, nevertheless, the last scenes of the penultimate episode and the Abangan for the final episode got kinda excited. And yes, I am SOOOOO excited for the fact that it might really be Kylie in the Abangan. Grabe naman ng paasa kung hindi. And yes, freakin' Raquim and Vishka are back! But right now, let me talk about my girl Alena, who's officially the next Queen of Lireo, according to the Abangan. First of all, I am just so happy that my dream of seeing Alena wear the Lireo Crown has finally come true! Alena had been my favorite during the original run, and even though I loved AleBarro '05, I've always secretly wanted to see her become Queen of Lireo ever since the original. I mean, she was the only one among the 3 sisters who didn't wear the crown. But I'm so glad that it happened here, not because it meant that YbraMihan was truly endgame (I'll talk about AleBarro's final closure later), but because in the requel, we clearly saw all the stages of Alena's character growth. From being the "mahina", emotionally unstable, and least favorite sanggre among the 4 sisters... to becoming the wisest, independent, and most balanced woman who has finally learned what it means to truly become a leader. Back then, I used to complain a lot about how annoying Alena was during Book 1, and with very good reason. But now, all her actions in the past have become worth it. If she didn't go through all that, she wouldn't have become the strong person she is today. And if we didn't witness her at her lowest, we wouldn't have been able to see the wonderful development that she's gone through in order to become the glue to her sisters and their kingdom. Book 2 was a lot of things. But Alena was one of the only characters who redeemed some parts of the story. My prediction and wish for her becoming Hara ng Lireo has finally come true. And I'm happy for Gabbi too, because like Alena, we also witnessed how much she grew as an actress. I almost gave up on her during Book 1, but now I'm so glad they didn't kill her off. She's proven that she doesn't need a love team to make it on her own. In fact, she's been getting some endorsements from famous brands like Pantene, and recently became part of the Belo "family". Speaking of love, let me tackle that final AleBarro scene in this episode. Now you all know that I was worried for awhile that they'd bring back AleBarro to appease the leftover fans who still want GabRu, not to mention the fact that almost everyone was/is hating on Ariana. It was especially worrisome when they began sharing a lot of tender scenes for the last few weeks. But that scene in tonight's episode was the final nail to AleBarro's tomb, and I'm pretty happy with how it was executed. After being punished, Alena offered to help Ybrahim to his room after he had suffered from the whipping. Ybrahim once again commented on how good she was to him, AND THEN apologized for the fact that if he hadn't met Amihan, they might've really ended up together (which would most likely be true). I believe this implied that Ybrahim knew, or at least had an inkling, that Alena still retained her love for him even after so many years. And I think he did try to fall back in love with her again, but he couldn't force himself to because his love for Amihan is too strong to let go. And Alena knew that. There was no point in thinking about the What If's, it would only cause unnecessary pain and regret. She was finally able to move on from the past, and accept that this love story is never going to be rekindled again, and hearing Ybrahim's confession only confirmed it. Which was why she let him go instead of being insistent when he told her that he can make it on his own. I'd like to believe that all these AleBarro scenes we've been getting for the past weeks were not only meant for fanservice, but also made in a way for Alena to learn that even though she still loves him, she is slowly able to put her feelings aside and stand by him as a friend and comrade. In short, she's learned to finally stop avoiding the problem like a coward, and face it head on with her head held up high. That's why even after more than a decade between Book 1 and 2, she still couldn't fully move on from Ybarro, because she was avoiding him. Now after confronting that long overdue issue, it'll be easier to truly close that chapter of her life and learn to love another. And now, she has truly become a Queen. A very well-deserved one at that. So thank you Encantadia writers for giving Alena the chance to shine on her own. Thank you for making her her own woman, for showing us that we don't necessarily need true love to make us whole. Thank you for bringing justice to my original favorite character, and for making her an example for girls to strive towards. I just love how all four sisters ended up with a future that they never would have thought of or even wanted in the beginning. Pirena and Danaya initially only wanted the crown to prove themselves worthy, although in obviously different levels of want. Now they've learned that they don't need to prove anything to anyone in order to be loved or looked upon. Pirena got the crown, but it ended up not giving her what she really wanted which led her to learn the true meaning of love and being loved. Danaya no longer wanted the crown because of love, but had no choice because at that time, she was the only best choice to take over Amihan's role. And then we have Amihan who was willing to take the crown and sacrifice her personal happiness and desires in order to give her sisters and people a better life. While Alena was the only one who never strove for the crown, because all she wanted was to simply find true love and have a family to live peacefully with. It was a case of duty over heart, and heart over duty. Ironically, they ended up with each others' goals, with Amihan having found her true love (ironically again, from Alena) and having her own complete family, while Alena has learned to not depend on a prince charming and went on to become the Queen. Despite its very many faults, there are also aspects that were made better by the requel, like the ones I've mentioned above. I might expand on them on my final post for the last episode. And yes, the ending seems like it's going to be VERY rushed, I honestly don't know how they're all going to fit in one episode. But let's wait and see until then. So for now, let me say thank you to the staff of Encantadia. Because of the requel, I've made some new friends and had interesting online discussions with other people, which became one of my highlights of the weekdays. Thanks to you guys as well, you made Enca-watching a lot more fun! ❤

MINI-ARC: Trojan War
Total mahilig naman sa filler arcs ang Enca writers, why not let Avria capitalize on the Manik-Ariana-Ybrahim love triangle? Let Avria discover Ariana as Amihan’s sarkosi, thus, be Eris and the remaining be Menelaus, Helen, and Paris respectively. Chos.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
( reposting because this website is determined to f*ck us content creators over. ) click here for seventy gifs of southeast asian actress glaiza de castro, born 21 january 1988. she is specifically of tagalog filipino descent. these are nearly all from her role as sang’gre pirena in encantadia (2016-2017), making her 28-29 years old. (in two gifs, she is 23-24 years old.)
please REBLOG if you can. i do hope you use these gifs. they’re great for period/fantasy/royal roleplays, as her costumes incorporate real elements of precolonial attire.

Avisala! Meet our new Sang'gres!
Bianca Umali as Terra, daughter of Sang'gre Danaya
Faith Da Silva as Flamarra, daughter of Sang'gre Pirena
Kelvin Miranda as Adamus, son of Sang'gre Alena
Angel Guardian as Deia
-
I've seen these actors from other shows before and I have to say that they actually have a lot of potential...
BUT WHERE IS CASSANDRA?!
She was literally shown at the finale episode and she's not one of the main characters wtf?
Angel Guardian kinda looks like Mikee so I was expecting that she was gonna play Lira's daughter. Right now I have a lot of things/crazy theories in mind:
1. Deia is the only character who's from the mortal world (like Paopao)
2. She is (hopefully) Ybramihan baby #2 which makes her Lira's younger sister. Idk maybe Emre granted Amihan another chance to live considering how fucked up her life was in the second half of season 1 **coughs in sarkosi**
3. She's Cassandra in disguise
Honestly, I'm freaking the fuck out that they did not introduce Sang'gre Cassandra. The girl literally grew up with the other new generation of Sang'gres so it's definitely not set in the timeline prior to her birth.
But come to think of it, there are five elements that make up the mother gem so Cassandra could be the new keeper of the brilyante ng diwa...but why was she not introduced as one of the main characters?
Anyhoo, I'm still excited for Sang'gre. I'm crossing my fingers that the 2016-2017 cast will still be part or at least make an appearance to the show.

The Case of Ariana Pt. 2: YbraMihan or YbriAna?
So last night's episode caused an uproar within the Enca fandom in a negative way because Ariana was daydreaming about Ybrahim while she was helping the damas, and in her daydream, she was wearing Amihan's old royal gown, something that felt like a betrayal and disrespect to Kylie/Amihan according to fans. Not only that but she also had a "Cinderella" moment during the celebration that night, and it looked like Ybrahim has become attracted to her as soon as she stepped out in her blue gown. But the topping of the cake was that "Abangan" scene where Ybrahim and Ariana shared an intimate dance, nearly leading to a kiss, and Ybrahim starts reminding himself that he should not fall for her because she is not Amihan. It's obvious that most of the fandom has not accepted Arra as the new "Amihan" yet. And honestly, I can't really blame them since I myself am critical about her currently disappointing acting skills and the fact that Ariana's "pabebe-ish" personality is shining through moreso than Amihan's old self. I do not like how the show is making Ariana more concerned or more focused on only Ybrahim every time she appears onscreen. Not that she can't have her moments, but it also should not be overdone even if it's for the sake of the YbraMihan fandom. That's one of the reasons why YbraMihan worked... their slow-burnt love was subtle, mature, responsible, and not "In-Your-Face" in every episode, which made every romantic moment they had together even sweeter and more precious. Like that scene where those beasts were attacking Lireo, and Ariana showed only concern for Ybrahim and even laid out her feelings for him to Deshna even while in the midst of danger. I thought that scene was very out of place. There's a time for everything, and that definitely wasn't the time for confessing when your main concern was supposed to bring people to safety, especially since "Amihan" used to be the Queen of Lireo and is concerned about her people's well-being than herself. Ariana's actions have proven more and more that my Theory #1 about Amihan's soul giving life to Ariana, but Ariana will always be Ariana through and through until the end, is the one that's happening. The old Amihan would never daydream so goofily in the midst of cleaning, or at least while in a public place, and she definitely would've stood up for herself in a "classy" manner against those Damas who thought lowly of her. Despite all my complaints, I will admit that I felt "kilig" at that "Cinderella" moment, and contrary to what most netizens think of, I liked that Abangan scene where Ybrahim and Ariana shared an intimate dance and he began questioning his feelings for her. I never really felt excitement in Ybriana scenes except during their first meeting, and that's mostly because of the Kylie flashback. But in this scene, I could almost imagine Ariana being Amihan, and that it's not Ariana who's dancing with Ybrahim, but the old Amihan. I'm sure that Ybrahim is attracted to Ariana not only because she's beautiful just like how everyone in the room thinks, but because he could see Amihan's image and felt her presence as soon as Ariana came out. But of course he doesn't know that Ariana is Amihan, even she herself doesn't know it yet, so of course he would start doubting his feelings. Sad to say, a lot of the netizens did not share the same sentiments. Some are angry that Ybrahim is growing romantic feelings for Ariana and is starting to "move on" from Amihan, which they think is a betrayal. Others are still critical of Ariana mostly because Arra isn't Kylie or because of how the writers are portraying her love story. And then there are some who still prefer AleBarro. Look, you guys. I love Kylie too, and I desperately want her to come back in Enca even if it's in the last episode only. Or if we're lucky, if Enca extends till late 2017 and she's already given birth and has enough rest at that time, I'm praying that she'll be able to return even for a short amount of time and even without heavy scenes just to give Amihan the happy ending she deserves AS HERSELF. But people by now should fully accept that reality at the moment cannot allow Kylie to come back. And people should not bash Arra for it because she's only doing her job. The person who you guys should be blaming is not her, or the writers, or only Aljur alone, but Kylie as well. It is her own fault for not being careful that these results came out which caused her to give up Amihan's role and ruin the YbraMihan plans that DMR has planned. At the end of the day, Encantadia is only FICTION. Even though Kylie wants to continue on, it's still better to be safe than sorry. Her baby's safety is the most important thing and should be considered a blessing, however wrong the timing was. At the end of the day, Amihan's story has to go on, even if Kylie cannot continue as her. And if there ever will be that sliver of a chance that she can return as a cameo, the only way to do that now is if Arra continues her role as the new "Amihan". And the only way to make YbraMihan canon until the end is if YbriAna happens. Amihan's soul is already in Ariana's body, so even if it'll never be the same, the fact still remains that YbriAna becoming canon will essentially make YbraMihan canon because it is truly Amihan and Ybrahim's hearts that are pulling them back together. It is what it is because we can no longer go back in time and make Amihan stay put in Devas to wait for her loved ones. Our only hope now is to wait and see if Ariana fully embodies Amihan's old self eventually. The writers are already doing everything they can to keep Amihan and YbraMihan's story going, and although some decisions are questionable like their treatment of Ariana's attraction to Ybrahim, we should show appreciation for their efforts instead of cursing them for something that is not within their power. And to those saying that they'd prefer AleBarro to happen instead of YbriAna, unless you're through and through an AleBarro or a GabRu fan, please stop. AleBarro's story has long been over. Returning Ybrahim to Alena just because you can't accept YbriAna is not enough as an excuse to erase all the development Alena has gone through because she chose to move on from her first love. It is not set on stone that Alena should have a love interest or that Ybrahim and Alena should get together just because they are both single or because of pity for Alena's unreciprocated feelings for him. Ybrahim is obviously not romantically interested in Alena anymore. Heck, even as an ally or a friend, he has not shown much concern to Alena or her absence more than he does with Danaya or Pirena even after so many years. So to have him suddenly develop special feelings for Alena maybe as a way to distract himself from Amihan would just be so far-fetched and selfish of him. I'd rather they forget about prolonging that subplot because it's already overdone and only makes Alena more pitiful. Even if you don't see chemistry between Ruru and Arra, story-wise, it is only natural for Ybrahim to start falling for Ariana because he feels Amihan's presence within her. So to those who felt like they're "betrayed" by Ybrahim moving on, try to look at it in another perspective instead of still holding on to Kylie's nearly impossible return. It is completely normal for a single man who lost his true love to move on. I think that's a whole lot better than being grumpy for the rest of your life, and it's completely selfish to wish him that. And even so, Ybrahim is falling for Ariana because of Amihan's presence within her, so in a way, you can believe that Ybrahim has not fallen for "another woman". When you observe their scenes, Ariana's aura in front of Ybrahim lean more as Amihan's instead of her own, so it's only natural that Ybrahim's feelings become confused because he knows she's supposed to be "Ariana", but his heart keeps reminding him of Amihan. What I'm trying to say is that the fans should try to keep an open mind and stop bashing Arra incessantly just because she's Kylie's replacement. You can criticize her acting and her character's portrayal, and you might not see chemistry between her and Ruru like me. But please remember that Arra the actress is only doing her job. Ariana is essentially Amihan even if it doesn't show all the time. After all, she IS in Ariana's body and has Ariana's memories instead of her past life, so of course by instinct she'll have her "Ariana" moments as much as her "Amihan" moments. Think of the characters, not just the actors. Because at the end of the day, the characters' stories are more important than the actors playing them. If you are a true YbraMihan fan, you should realize that the only way now for our ship to become canon is to support YbriAna. And that's exactly what I'm going to do, even if I'm a KyRu fangirl and not an ArraXRuru fan. I'm holding onto this ship for the sake of YbraMihan, because this is the only way for this ship to keep sailing according to how the story's laid out now. At the end of the day, we can only hope that the writers know what they're doing. And who knows, maybe by the end of the series, we might just get our reward for our patience and loyalty to the show.
