what do you think law's final story line will be? do you think he will die? (in the manga) :o
hmm maybe he'll team up with luffy (+ perhaps kid?) again and they'll fight shanks, blackbeard, and buggy/cross guild? i have no idea! but i'm kinda obsessed with the teach has three souls theory. maybe they'll fight one of each of him. i don't know how that'd work but it sounds cool...
i don't think law will die. his whole thing is that he keeps almost dying but god/fate/luffy just won't let the man rest. but i do enjoy a good character-driven death, like ace succumbing to his pride/loyalty/anger when akainu trash talked whitebeard. if oda has a similar, completely avoidable but dramaturgically inescapable death for law... i would embrace the pain! >:-3

What are the characters sexuality’s?
I've been wondering if anyone would ask this, although I also slightly feared getting this ask because I don't have full answers for everyone. I'll answer what I can though! Read-more for length, but I'll preface this by saying that spirits tend to be queer more than they're not.
Vivian: Gay. Graham: Gay. Shannon: Aro, Ace. I went into detail in a previous post, but he's sex/romance positive, he just has never had any attraction of any kind. As for arousal, he knows what it is, and he's not familiar with experiencing it himself. Sophie: I previously said bi, but I think pan is more accurate. (I use both terms for myself, forgive me.) She sees herself as bi, given who she's dated and married, but I'd argue pan is more likely. Oh, and she's someone who doesn't know this about herself yet, but... She'd thrive in a poly relationship. Rhett: Definitely pansexual. El: I'm not 100% sure for him. Aro spectrum seems likely. Maybe pan otherwise? He finds characters in books attractive more than he finds real people and spirits attractive. He also reads a lot of smut scenes in books (what Vivian doesn't know can't hurt him!). I bet he's a monsterfucker. It would not surprise me. Howie: Pan, and uh, his physical adulthood will be filled with overlapping relationships/encounters. You know that curiosity he has? Well. It applies to this too! Lots of kink experimentation, although he'll happily embrace being vanilla when he's done figuring out his preferences. Beau: Uhhhh... I can't spoil much, given what I have planned for the prologue, so I'm settling for, "Bee likes men." Also... Bee is kinky later. Phineas: Pan. Poor man has not had a relationship in a long, long time though... Also I should mention he will not date humans. Never has, never will. He doesn't hate humans, although he may not be their biggest fan sometimes. He can't deal with the short lifespans. Mir: They're into women. There are other characters, but I figure since Phineas and Mir are coming up and I've mentioned them a few times, I'd include them on this list. Plus I haven't thought over this much for them. Haha.

Book Blurb: In this smart, swoony, rom-com debut from Jenny L. Howe The Make-Up Test, two college exes find themselves battling against each other—and their unresolved feelings—for a spot in a prestigious literature Ph.D. program. Allison Avery loves to win. After acing every academic challenge she’s come up against, she’s finally been accepted into her dream Ph.D. program at Claymore University, studying medieval literature under a professor she’s admired for years. Sure, grad school isn’t easy—the classes are intense, her best friend is drifting away, and her students would rather pull all-nighters than discuss The Knight's Tale—but she’s got this. Until she discovers her ex-boyfriend has also been accepted. Colin Benjamin might be the only person who loves winning more than Allison does, and when they're both assigned to TA for the same professor, the game is on. What starts as a personal battle of wits (and lit) turns into all-out war when their professor announces a career-changing research trip opportunity—with one spot to fill. Competing with Colin is as natural as breathing, and after he shattered her heart two years ago, Allison refuses to let him come out on top. But when a family emergency and a late-night road trip—plus a very sexy game of Scrabble—throw them together for a weekend, she starts to wonder if they could be stronger on the same team. And if they fall for each other all over again, Allison will have to choose between a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and what could be a twice-in-a-lifetime love. In this charmingly bookish debut, The Make-Up Test embraces the truth that people can sometimes change and grow, even when you least expect it.
Review:
Two exes reunite after years and are both forced to TA together as they compete for a spot on a coveted research project. Allison Avery has finally been accepted into her dream Ph.D. program at Claymore University, studying medieval literature under a professor she’s always admired. The only hiccup? She is being forced to TA with her ex who not only broke her heart, stole academic credit, and is now back to steal another academic opportunity from her. Colin Benjamin was the guy that Allison was in love with except he stole an award that she had wanted so badly and then promptly broke up with her a day later telling her he just wants to focus on himself. Now he is back and acting as if they can reconnect and trying to be nice to her again. But then when a family emergency has her panicking and him offering to help, they reconnect and open up to each other again... except once again Allison walks into another betrayal from Colin and this time, it just might be the last straw for her. I’ll say this, if I ever dated someone and they did what Colin did to her, I would never forgive them, I would not give them a second chance, and I would not give them the time of day. As someone who has dealt with people trying to take credit for my own academic work, I immediately disliked Colin and my growing dislike for him only grew worse as the book went on. Colin is not a great person, in fact I completely sided with Allison’s friend Sophie who questions why Allison is giving him the time or day a second time after he completely ruined her the first time, and the fact that she recalls all the things he did and said, the way he treated her? Come on Allison, do better. This man did not change from how he was, and the way they broke up in the third act and the reason for what he did? Nah. NAH NAH NAH. No way would I ever let that man even talk to me again. Let me say this, I appreciated Allison trying to do her best and her anger was justified, what I did not appreciate was her just letting herself be pulled into the orbit that is Colin. This romance just did not work for me, I was expecting academic enemies to lovers but with a bit more substance or at least fun banter, what I wasn’t expecting was being infuriated while reading this and just overall upset that in the end she was lulled back with this man. So while this one wasn’t for me, definitely give it a go though if you are looking for second chance romances.
*Thanks Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

The BMJ have published a paper titled 'Effect of exercise for depression: systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials' and it has found that dancing is extremely beneficial for people, and even more beneficial than SSRIs.

This is why dancing is eternal - speaks to the body, the spirit, can't be contained and anti-night club laws seek to create a more unhealthy society.
The new landscape of the city:
The BT Tower was sold by BT Group for £275M and is now owned by MCR Hotels which will be turning it into an upscale hotel. The city of London doesn't lack iconic hotels - Claridges, The Standard, Ace Hotel (now called One Hundred Shoreditch, Hoxton Hotels - what angle could they be taking? What needs will this new iconic building fill for their guests....
Milan + Paris Fashion Week:
Fur made from denim - really great fashion innovations from Glenn Martens and team. Alongside the streaming of the run up to the show on a 24 hour watch. Something about the way this brand operates - it's almost fake transparency but not in a bad way, in a way like you are in the in group and we're not pretentious. We know what poppers are....It really reminded me of Big Brother culture - the voice, the absurd fashion, the faces on the screen watching you. The people physically in the seats feel less important because we can't see their faces but the digital, peering in....there's something there Mr Martens.
Age of Surveillance - embracing humanity and unexpected. A 24 hour stream is a bit of an invasion of privacy but letting people in can create this dynamic environment, tailored to what the audience wants. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. These kind of live streams are related to mukbang culture, the need to be comforted even though the people that we're watching may not be that comfortable.

A lot of the runway feels less fun, full of capes, fur (!!!), less risk. Recession time, no time to mess about :( London and New York even though lack of investment feel real - exciting, bigger brands want to show in Milan and Paris which is fair enough but there is no heart. I'm sure they'll make some money.
RE: New McQueen - interesting, how does one recreate a house that has so much passion, and turn it into their own thing, their own commercial thing? I think there's more promise in Sean McGirr's McQueen than in the original Gucci debut. There's something there in not making something super commercial on the first thought.

about me
Hey, I’m Sophie Joelle!
AFAB but I don’t really care about pronouns so you go crazy about it! Born in 1994 and mostly speaking English on any platform that I’ve linked. Sometimes my German ass still does a lot of mashup language. Which includes words from French, Korean, Swedish and Italian. I do use social media such as instagram, tiktok and twitter.
Tiktok recently made me realise that I am neurodivergent. Adding AroAce to that since I seem to not have interest in others romantically or sexually.
My main interests are Drarry fanfics, Young Royals, Heartstopper, The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, Sex Education, LoL-Esports and Games.
Drarry FFs
I grew up with those movies, went to cinema at the third movie and all the following ones. Just this year (2022), I decided to read the books… and accidentally stumbled over some Drarry fanfic? That is apparently my personality now (I’ll be insufferable for you by toxik_Angel). So instead of reading the books, I now enjoy slow burn, angsty Drarry fics over books. AGAIN. ( I have some history with gay ffs in other fandoms).OH and one last thing, I am a Slytherin and my fav character is no other than Draco Malfoy. Sadly due to all the controversal stuff, I will distance myself to all the canon stuff connected to a certain person… but I will keep on reading nasty fanfictions about Draco and Harry. Recently been on a wilde readings spree. My tiktok got the hang of recommending fics to me and well, it's come to over 60 open tabs on my phone.
Young Royals
Discovered this end of 2021 or beginning 2022. Fell in love with Wilhelm, their lovestory and Swedish. Talk to me in Swedish and I’ll do anything for you.
Heartstopper - AND ALICE OSEMAN(VERSE)
Not a big fan of Graphic Novels so I only stick to the series on Netflix but damn… this is my new comfort series when I feel sad or down. Nick/Kit Connor is embracing my heart every time. Recently bought all the books and am now officially comsumed by Osemanverse. My favorite character turned out to be Aled Last from Radio Silence!
Sex Education
My fav idiot is Otis in that series and I totally got him up until nearly end of Season 2. After that we divorced and went seperate ways. Meaning, I felt his awkwardness with sexual stuff and then he suddenly had a sexlife, meanwhile me still advoiding it at all cost. Since, I’m ace…
LoL-Esports
Meaning I am a total sucker for LEC. There’s way too many decent Gamers that I want to pour my heart out to. My favorite player is Mikyx. As casters I rly rly love Daniel Drakos. Casting together with his duo Caedrel gives me the chills while I still don’t fully understand League in detail. Drakos and Vedius are producing absolutely madness music. Pls check those songs out:
• Edge of Infinity
• Reckless with my Heart
• Mediocre Rap Cypher of the LEC
Games
Main games are Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Dead by Daylight, 7Days To Die, League of Legends (Aram). Feel free to send me DM for adding on those games!!
Important. I am an absolute simp for Xayah (and Rakan).
BTS
You are looking at one rare Army that has been with them since debut. My bias is Jungkook, but each member individually gives me safe places that nobody irl was ever able to. I am so thankful that we walked together, without them I wouldn’t have become a nurse and settled in a good mental state. They literally cured the negativity in my life and inside of me. 감사합니다, BTS. These days I mainly listen to their music but don’t keep up with their content. Doesn’t mean I love them any less tho.  I've been quite distant from them since the solo songs of my bias, they made me upset and frustrated. Since they are in English and have a feature and they are about fucking. Which, while being used to some singers, I can take, but not by JK..
Small add-on, I do listen to other Kpop artists like Stray Kids, NCT, TXT and WOODZ.

Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy & Horror! :
It’s the nostalgic trip of a lifetime for the Tenth Doctor, as he teams up with the best friends of his previous selves in a brand-new box set from Big Finish Productions coming in September 2022
David Tennant stars in three full-cast audio dramas recorded during the lockdown imposed by this year’s coronavirus pandemic.
The Tenth Doctor revisits classic companions K9, Leela, Ace and Nyssa long after their time-travelling adventures have finished. Because they all need help, and when people need help, the Doctor will never refuse.
Splinters by John Dorney
The Doctor finds K9 floating in space, and sets off to clear up Time War fallout. First, they find Leela protecting a village from the Spriggan.
The Stuntman by Lizzie Hopley
The Doctor and K9 enter a virtual world of a movie stuntman to help Nyssa escape a Time War criminal’s scheme.
Quantum of Axos by Roy Gill
Ace investigates a new tech company which seems too good to be true, and meets the Doctor and K9 as Axos escapes its trap.
Producer David Richardson said: “We took our cue from School Reunion for this set – what would it be like if the Tenth Doctor met some of his past companions, later in their lives. The result is three emotional, exciting stories that cut to the core of Doctor Who, about moving on but never forgetting and always embracing the past.”
David Tennant said: “It’s been one of the great unexpected delights of being locked in one’s house for months on end, that this was something I was able to do. To be not only doing all these wonderful stories but to be appearing alongside people like Louise Jameson, John Leeson, Sarah Sutton and Sophie Aldred, it’s been just such a treat. I’ve loved it. It’s always such a lovely thing to return to, this show.”
Big Finish:  AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 2022

Thursday Thoughts: Writing Advice (Part 3 of 3)
And here is the final part!
I recently stumbled across this writer ask meme about pieces of writing advice, and I was having so much fun thinking about it that I decided to just respond to them all!
33. Embrace structure
Yes, yes, yes. Embrace structure. This is not the same thing as being limited by structure. It’s easy to mistake the two.
I spoke before about the importance of familiarity. People enjoy and respond to familiar structures. “Once upon a time” and “happily ever after” are still common phrases for a reason. They work. They’re familiar. People like them. Structure means that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
I also spoke before about leaning into the limitations of a medium. Having a structure to follow gives you something to lean on, while at the same time it forces you to be creative! Structure is yet another example of rules to learn so that you can know when to break them.
34. Dialogue should be purposeful
I like this rule, but I think it’s easily misunderstood.
When people hear “purposeful,” they think “plot important.” So, they end up writing something in which everyone says exactly what they mean all the time, with perfect bluntness.
But people don’t always talk like that. People beat around the bush. People make jokes. People run out of things to say and point out funny-shaped cracks in the sidewalk.
A line of dialogue can have purpose other than furthering the plot. It can set the mood. It can establish a character as a bit scatterbrained. It can demonstrate that two characters are not comfortable or open with each other. (“How are you?” “Fine. You?” “Fine.” “Right.”) It can give your audience a break from the tension.
Write with purpose, yes, but don’t feel obligated for every word to be “purposeful.”
35. Be empathetic
Empathy is at the heart of storytelling. Through writing, you can create an experience for your readers which did not actually happen to them, but it means as much to them as if it had. This can be an immensely powerful exercise in empathy.
Creating a character is another great exercise in empathy. Have you created a person for your readers to connect with, or a stereotype to drive marginalized readers away?
Your readers are people. Your fellow writers are people. Your characters are also people. Treat them all with empathy.
36. Never use a verb other than ‘said’ to tag dialogue
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Again, all words are tools, and all words have a purpose. “Said” is a perfectly nice word; don’t be afraid to use it. But other words can convey different things to the scene.
“What did you do?” she said. (Neutral – we know she’s curious, but that’s it.)
“What did you do?” she shouted. (Wow, okay, this person is upset about whatever happened.)
“What did you do?” she whispered. (Ooh, it must be a secret!)
“What did you do?” she muttered. (She may be asking reluctantly – probably rolling her eyes, too.)
Use whatever word conveys what you need the moment to convey.
37. Do not start a sentence with a conjunction
Conjunctions are tools. Use them wisely.
Consider the medium, the audience, and the pacing. And then decide whether to start a sentence with a conjunction.
See, I just did so there – “and” is a conjunction. It works very well for the kind of train of thought writing I use in these blog posts. In more formal writing, you will want to avoid starting sentences with conjunctions.
But starting with a conjunction (oops, I did it again) is a good way to put your readers right into a character’s mind, to speed things up and make things feel urgent.
Learn the rules of grammar, and then you will know how and when you can break them.
38. A new speaker always gets a new paragraph
According to most structures, yes. Are there contexts in which you might break this rule? Sure.
But keep in mind that people expect new paragraphs for clarity. If you’re going to break a rule, break it with purpose, not just ‘cause you wanna.
39. If there’s a story you want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, you must write it
“Must,” huh? I don’t like the word “must,” as much as I like the general sentiment here.
A lot of what I write are stories which I wish I had had when I was little. This is especially true when I write about asexuality. I wish it hadn’t taken me until college to learn that it was an option. All I needed was one explicitly ace character.
Practically speaking, though, I’m not only writing these stories for my past self. I’m writing for other people.
When I write fanfiction about characters figuring out that they are asexual, readers leave comments thanking me for it – because they needed the story as much as my past self did.
I don’t see the point of telling people that they “must” write the stories they want to read, because not everyone is a writer. More people are readers than writers. And these readers absolutely have a right to get up and say, “I want more stories about people like me!”
40. The ending is just the place where you stop your story
Yes and no. The ending is where things resolve. You might have multiple options, but one will be better than the others, depending on the experience you want your readers to have.
41. The only way you can write the truth is to assume that what you set down will never be read
No, I don’t think so.
I mean, if it helps you to pretend like you’re never going to show someone your writing, then you might feel freer to be honest in your writing.
But writing is meant to be read, and true things are meant to be heard.
42. Write your first draft by hand
Dictating what kind of writing utensils people should use, and when, is the road to ableism paved with good intentions. I consider a computer keyboard a writing utensil.
Use the tool that works for you. If it isn’t working, change it up. Sometimes switching between pen and pencil, or between pencil and keyboard, can shake yourself out of a writing block.
43. Challenge yourself
If you want to improve? Yes.
44. Everyone has a book in them
I think everyone has a story worth telling. I don’t think that literally everyone will write a book. But everyone has a story and a way to tell it.
45. Dialogue should be rhythmic and 46. Dialogue should be natural
I’m gonna answer these two together because, once again, we’re using absolutes where there are two perfectly valid options with different purposes.
What kind of effect are you trying to create? Are you going for realism or poetry? Do what fits the work! Do what fits the scene!
There are rules to writing, yes, but they are rarely cut and dry. That’s the note I want to end on here – different writing advice is valuable for different moments of writing. It’s okay to pick and choose which rules you listen to, and to change your mind later.
And sometimes two pieces of advice that sound like they conflict – like this distinction between rhythmic and natural dialogue – are actually not that different. Rhythmic dialogue and natural dialogue can be one and the same.
If you take a class on Shakespeare plays, the most common rhythm you’ll talk about is iambic pentameter. “Pentameter” just means that there are five beats in a line. “Iambic” is what kinds of beats we’re talking about. An iambic beat has a soft syllable and a hard syllable – it’s all in where we put emphasis in our words.
My name – Sophie – is not an iambic word, because you put the hard syllable first: SO-phie. But the sentence “My name is Sophie Katz” is iambic – “my NAME is SO-phie KATZ.”
For the sake of the screen readers, I won’t keep typing like that. Here are a couple more examples of iambic sentences:
In Romeo and Juliet: “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?”
In an acting warmup I learned once: “Around the rock the ragged rascal ran.”
These sentences are rhythmic. But they are also natural, and that’s why we like to hear them. Now, where do you find a rhythm like this in nature?
Put your hand on your chest and wait a bit.
What could be more natural than your own heartbeat?

I figure it may be useful to give a list of the games featured and which characters belong to which game, since I haven’t yet started to implement specific tags for the games. So, below the cut is a list of dating sims and games with dating sim elements I have played, and the OCs created for different routes and choices within said games that will be mentioned in future on this blog. The more I do and play, this will get updated.

Divine Masculine and Feminine Reading | Week of Sunday July 28 - Saturday - August 4 2019 DIVINE MASCULINE | (top) rider waite tarot deck | DIVINE FEMININE | (bottom) tarot del fuego | Hello, welcome to readings of Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine with Ophilia Sophy. If these messages resonate with you feel free to follow as I will continue to update the sacred DM’s and DF’s as the weeks go on. Remember that there is DM and DF energy within all of us so they are best read together. This weeks DM and DF reading was extremely interesting. As you look at the cards yourself, notice the mirroring between these energies. Divine Masculine is extremely focused on the union with his DF, but it seems that he is starting to have doubts that she even exists. Presently he is in a chaotic energy, possibly wondering if he should walk away from the idea of this union with his Divine Feminine as represented by the eight of cups. The doubts are getting to his head, and he is putting himself in this tower of chaos not realizing that his DF’s energy surrounds him and all signs are leading to this union. You need to hold on Divine Masculine, for it is important for you to get out of your head and look at the bigger picture here. You have to work through the doubts and believe that your union with her is very possible and everything will fall into place with divine timing. I have the feeling that both DM and DF already have the sense of each other. They know who they are, but have not acted or spoken upon it. As you see Divine Masculine is moving towards his Divine Feminine with the chariot, but since he is having so much conflict within himself he is having trouble approaching her. He sees her as this Queen of Pentacles, which she clearly radiates the energy of as she even appears as the Queen of Pentacles in her own reading. She is very secure and sure of herself, which may intimidate the Divine Masculine as he is having so many doubts within himself. He’s presented himself as the Knight of Cups, someone who is quiet and cautious, leaving the Divine Feminine to wait for him to gather up his strength and courage to be the king that he is. Divine Feminine is absolutely sure about her Divine Masculine. There is not a grain of doubt within her. The sun and the strength card are represented in the present, showing that she is holding on strong to the faith of her Divine Masculine. The only problem is, is that she is holding on a bit too tight. She has the Ace of Swords in reverse, she is so focused on him that in return she is hurting herself. She has the hanged man, as if she is putting her entire life on hold waiting for her Divine Masculine, but she needs to let go a bit, and as stated before realize that things will fall into place with divine timing. She also has the nine of pentacles, she is very happy and satisfied in her life, but like a flame within her soul she waits for Divine Masculine to bring her that last pentacle. She needs to know that she is whole by herself to fully embrace her Queen of Pentacles and understand that she is all that is. We’re seeing Divine Feminine wait as Divine Masculine goes through his journey. He starts off as this Knight of Cups, and works his way up to being the King of Pentacles. As he is in this stage of being this King of Pentacles he is realizing and healing things about himself and gathering knowledge of who he needs to be. When Divine Masculine heals and gets out of this chaotic tower energy he will attain the Ace of Wands and finally be ready for his Divine Feminine. Only when Divine Masculine attains the Ace of Wands and embodies the King of Wands will they then be ready for the union as represented by the four of wands and three of pentacles. Once again though, this is a waiting game for Divine Feminine as her masculine continues to grow strength. She has the Hanged Man as her future as she waits for her King of Wands. This is a reminder to Divine Feminine to surrender and release the hold she has on her DM until he is ready himself. She needs to continue her soul work and healing, not put a pause on her life until he arrives. She needs to gather strength herself, for the more strength she gathers as she waits for the union, the stronger this connection will be. I asked for guidance of how Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine can navigate through these energies. Divine Masculine needs to communicate with compassion. Have compassion for himself, work on self love, and self healing. These doubts are only holding you back from what it is you truly desire. Embrace the king that you truly are, and shed the uncertainty you may have of your being. Divine Feminine needs to hold herself with integrity and know that she is already whole. She is strong herself. She needs to not hold herself back and feel less without her Divine Masculine. Realize that her Divine Masculine energy already lives within her, and although he may not be there physically, he is there energetically. It is time for her to put this pause to an end, and continue her soul work. That is the end of this weeks DM and DF reading. If you notice anything else within the cards and the mirroring/synchronicities leave a comment and let’s have a conversation about these energies. If you have any requests of any other readings you’d like to see as well, leave a note! Much love. @ophiliasophy

Movie Review: Deadpool 2 (Spoilers)
Tumblr media
Spoiler Warning: I am posting this review the weekend after the movie is released in the U.K. So if you haven’t yet seen the movie don’t read on.
General Reaction:
Tumblr media
Pop culture references, or "Meta-Referencing" as it's called in some circles, has become such à staple in both movies and television that it is hard to know who originated it. But in terms of who owns it, that largely is Fox as their animated TV shows, such as Family Guy and American Dad, are built around it. However, Deadpool as a character is a meta-referencing construct. Spouting pop culture satire is what he has been known for since his creation, being the "Merc with the Mouth" and fans may worry that if he didn't have that, would he be a quality character.
Well if Deadpool 2 is anything to go by, I'd say that's a yes. Yes there are still meta-references spread throughout this movie, but the movie doesn't rely on them and instead becomes a fully-rounded comic-book action movie. In my opinion more so than the first Deadpool movie and even Avengers: Infinity War in terms of story.
Tumblr media
Yes the plot is pretty much ripping off Terminator but it does Terminator how you would expect Deadpool to do Terminator. Not only does it satirically play homage to that movie but also the amount of pot shots it takes both at the MCU and DCEU is fantastic.
My two critiques with the meta-referencing in this movie is 1) There is a joke made about child molesting early on in this movie that hinders on that line of very poor taste and 2) They missed some very obvious chances to make fun of some of the movie's cast that they had no reason to miss. When your main character wears a mask covering his mouth, then the writers and director have no excuses when watching this movie in post and saying "Hey we missed an obvious Billy Skarsgård as Pennywise joke and a joke about Orange is the New Black, Black Panther and Wonder Woman, no worries we can have Ryan Reynolds dub over" but alas there is nothing.
As a fully rounded movie however, there is one thing I never expected to see in a Deadpool movie and that is a genuinely emotional scene, in this case Vanessa's death, yes the first movie had Wade discovering he had cancer, but with this scene there were one or two moments I felt would be used to turn the scene satirical, both with the microwave pinging and Wade's emotional reaction but surprisingly they just kept to the reaction...it was somewhat watered down at the end when Wade went back in time and saved her but I'll get into that when I talk about Vanessa further down.
Cast:
Tumblr media
On the subject of characters, much like the first movie this cast proves to be a great support in a movie that is solely the Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool show, unlike the first movie though this cast do just seem to be supporting players.
Tumblr media
Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool just as Hugh Jackman was born to play Wolverine and Krysten Ritter was born to play Jessica Jones. What he does with this character is nothing short of magic. I cannot describe just how much I love this actor in this role, this is coming from a guy who has never been a Ryan Reynolds fan...at all.
I love the fact they finally embraced Pansexual Deadpool as he was clearly in a committed relationship with Vanessa but he did have some flirtatious banter with Colossus and even Cable, I mean he used his crotch in Cable’s face as an offensive attack.
Tumblr media
Reynolds’ physical comedy is upped in this movie, not only does he have that brilliant crouched over through the legs on a moving car bit that I found quite funny but also the that prison break scene when Wade falls from the walkway smack onto a table with his body effectively bent over was really gross and really cool. I haven’t seen physical comedy this funny since Jim Carrey in the 90s; think Ace Ventura or The Mask, even The Grinch, that is what I was reminded of watching Ryan Reynolds in this movie.
As I said, everyone else was effectively a supporting player but the next two with the biggest roles were Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell Collins aka Firefist. What is interesting about both these characters is I have only ever seen them in the 90s X-Men animated series. Cable was a recurring player in all four seasons while Russell was named Rusty and only appeared in one episode during Season 3.
Tumblr media
Josh Brolin as Cable was surprisingly very good and the fact he is still appearing as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War was not a distraction because both characters are very different and with the CGI on Brolin for Thanos, there is a definite distinction between the two.
They definitely didn’t spend enough time establishing Cable as a character in his own right, outside of the fact his wife and daughter Hope were killed by an adult Russell which is why he traveled back in time there was no real character development. There was a minor scene when Cable is looking in the mirror at his body and it does seem he’s pained over the fact the techno-organic virus that is never mentioned is trying to take over his body but other than that there is really nothing defining other than the fact he was a formidable threat.
The fact he chose to stay at the end of the movie wasn’t exactly a shocker because Deadpool 2 was a back-door pilot in setting up X-Force, even though he saw that his family were alive because his daughter Hope’s teddy bear that he carries with him which was burned but then looked like new when they fixed the timeline which was a stereotypical time-travel trope but a good one, he decides to stick around for no real reason. When Wade says a line earlier in the movie saying “That’s just bad writing” I was thinking Cable’s ending was more sloppy.
Tumblr media
As for Russell Collins aka Firefist, I really didn’t get on board with this character. Yes he was the troubled youth that had trauma in his past and being a Mutant in this universe is never good for anyone of any age, but he was just angry. Yes he had one or two funny lines but most of the time his motivation as a character did not seem genuine. In fact, Russell here reminded me of Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a character needing to be needed.
Tumblr media
Whereas Domino I felt I did not get enough of, genuinely mostly everything we have seen of the character in this movie was in the trailers. She had one or two more good lines particularly with the truck chase but outside of that I was left underwhelmed as a fan of Domino’s because I wanted her to be a scene-stealer similar to Black Widow, Deadpool even calls her “Black Black Widow”.
Colossus again proves to be quite a comedic and competent character despite his earlier appearances in the original X-Men trilogy. The only issue is, we never see him outside of being metallic and yet again Deadpool makes the joke about the studio not being able to afford more X-Men than Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
Although there is a fantastic cameo from the X-Men: Apocalypse X-Men team while Deadpool is making this budget speech as the shot cuts to a profile shot of Wade showing a classroom with that team played by those actors in. In the room there is Beast, Quicksilver, Nightcrawler, Storm, Cyclops and bald Professor X all of whom were played by the same actors who portrayed them in X-Men: Apocalypse. It was interesting to see that neither Sophie Turner nor Jennifer Lawrence made an appearance as Jean Grey and Mystique respectively but literally the show was a blink and you will miss it type of shot.
Tumblr media
Circling back to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and I’m going to call her Ellie because it’s easier and that’s her civilian name, again like Domino most of what we’ve seen from her we saw in the trailers but what was confirmed in this movie was her LGBT status.
Tumblr media
Now it is not confirmed if she is bisexual or a lesbian but she is in a relationship with Yukio, who I think is supposed to be Surge from the comics but her name is Noriko not Yukio and Yukio is in fact from The Wolverine portrayed by Rila Fukishima in which case I am frustrated with this character because I loved what Rila did with it. Regardless, I applaud this movie because I have recently written up a Research Project for my university course about the lack of LGBT representation in Marvel and this movie gave me hope that maybe they are turning a corner, both with the teenage lesbian lovers and Deadpool’s pansexuality.
Tumblr media
I did have the opportunity to meet Brianna Hildebrand at Comic-Con in March but opted out in favour of Yondu but I continue to be happy with her role in these movies.
Tumblr media
Then X-Force as a team, the biggest tease I have seen for quite some time, I haven’t seen such a tease lacking followup since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the promise of the Sinister Six. Almost every trailer in this movie promoted the X-Force team starting in this movie but what the trailers failed to say was that they’d be seen for a grand total of five minutes and then literally be killed off save for Deadpool and Domino.
Tumblr media
When you have the likes of Terry Crewes and Bill Skarsgård in the movie, particularly with Billy coming off of such a success with It, yet barely have them speak and don’t really have any screen-time or development before killing them off just to say “We’ve had X-Force” it’s a waste. I mean I get only having Lewis Tan for a glorified cameo as he is more of a stuntman and he was playing a character that would have been all stunts mainly but again it was such a wasted opportunity.
Although the one thing the team did right was give us a bigger shock cameo than Matt Damon in Thor: Ragnarok and I am talking Brad Pitt as Vanisher. Now for most of the time Vanisher was invisible however when he fell down onto the power-lines and got electrocuted to reveal himself as Brad Pitt, the audience I saw this movie gave the biggest reaction all movie. It was such a surprise and such a non-commitment type of role that Pitt didn’t have to do it but either did 20th Century Fox a favour or Ryan Reynolds a favour, either way it actually made me respect him more.
Outside of that brief cameo, the biggest shock for me was the reveal of Juggernaut. I was actually very surprised to see him in this movie. When they “foreshadowed” the character, I genuinely did not know who it was going to be but the fact it was Juggernaut and looking more like Juggernaut than Vinnie Jones did I was loving it. Although I wasn’t so keen on the fact that Ryan Reynolds provided the voice, again Vinnie Jones was great vocally and physically in the role it was just how they styled him I had a problem with. Also the fact he was defeated by essentially having an electric enema was a little bit in poor taste, again there’s a line and Deadpool both as a character and a franchise dance very finely on it.
Tumblr media
Then as for Vanessa, I really like Morena Baccarin as an actress but currently I am not entirely sure she knows what role she wants to commit to. Yes she is a mainstay on Gotham and has been fantastic on that all season and it is clear she was not in the first few episodes because of filming this, but then there is the fact she is back voicing Gideon on The Flash which is a minor voice-over role and then there was this but it is such a watered down version of the character from the comics to the point where she was never revealed as a mutant or had her appearance from the comics. Although interestingly enough the character did first appear in the comics as Domino before revealing herself properly.
The end-credits scene which saw Ellie fix Cable’s time-travelling device and stupidly giving it to Deadpool allowed him to go back and save Vanessa, meaning she’s not dead, which if you follow time-travel lore means the events of this movie should not have happened but even so I digress.
Deadpool’s Future:
Tumblr media
My final thoughts are on the future of Deadpool in terms of movies because of course there is a pending merger that could threaten that.
I do think that when you consider the fact Fox is in the midst of having it’s movie and television properties going over to Disney, one has to consider if Deadpool and the X-Men have a future. Yes Kevin Feige is going to want to capitalize on Deadpool’s box office to add to his own gross and they have confirmed that Deadpool will stay R-Rated. but the meta-referencing to the MCU may have to be taken out if the character becomes part of the MCU and also if Ryan Reynolds does not continue to have control over the character as he does now then we lose something special.
Now they have said that Deadpool 3 will in fact be an X-Force movie and it is already in negotiations, however I do not believe that any development in terms of script, casting or filming will take place until this merger is confirmed. While I think Deadpool is meta enough to be the only surviving character from Fox in this merger, I do think making the movie as Fox but then either part way through or even at the point of premiere becoming a Disney property would mess up what is currently one of the best comic-book movie franchises out there.
Overall I rate this movie a 9/10, it’s not the best movie I have ever seen however both as the type of comic-book movie it promised and the type of character actor Ryan Reynolds is it is a perfect movie. It just isn’t higher because I do not feel the immediate urge of a rewatchability factor.
So that’s my review of Deadpool 2, what did you guys think? Post your comments and check out more Marvel Movie Reviews as well as other Movie Reviews and posts.

Parkade Melbourne MPavilion Carpark
Parkade Carpark Melbourne MPavilion, Naomi Milgrom Foundation Publication, Peter McIntyre Victoria Building Architect
Parkade Carpark Melbourne MPavilion
1 Dec 2020
Melbourne Parkade Car Park Building
Location: 34 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Mpavilion Announces Trailblazing, Adaptive Takeover Of Parkade Car Park
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: The Naomi Milgrom Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Melbourne and Creative Victoria today announced that from 8 January 2021 MPavilion—Australia’s most loved architecture and design event—will take residency at the architecturally significant Parkade Carpark designed by Melbourne architect Peter McIntyre AO at 34 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. As an extraordinary contribution to the City of Melbourne’s recovery strategy, MPavilion Parkade, will be a highly-accessible cultural destination, hosting events, workshops, and performances designed to stimulate, entertain, and engage the public, 7-days-a-week.
photo : Timothy Burgess
In a timely example of ‘adaptive re-use’—the process of reusing an existing building for a purpose other than that for which it was designed—MPavilion will use the Parkade car park as a new home for its unique, multi-faceted program of public events and community experiences. The Parkade was designed by Peter McIntyre of one of Australia’s most prominent architectural firms known as Mclntyre Partnerships. His extraordinary portfolio includes Parliament Station, The Jam Factory, The Butterfly House, and the 1956 Olympic swimming pool.
photo : Timothy Burgess
Built c1960-70, the Parkade was originally a carpark with offices and later modified. This adaptive re-use expands upon the broader conservational message of MPavilion’s January program, which has been curated under the theme  ‘Preservation: Propagating Knowledge.’ During this first month of 2021, MPavilion will present a far-reaching series of events exploring conservation, protection, reinvention, and maintenance in a growing city.
Naomi Milgrom AC, the Naomi Milgrom Foundation founder said: “It’s exhilarating to collaborate with the City of Melbourne, Creative Victoria, and our wonderful partners to make MPavilion Parkade a reality. In 2021, MPavilion’s thoughtful adaptation of Parkade car park honours the site as an important part of Melbourne’s architectural history while giving it new life and significance. With this bold reimagining of such a central space, MPavilion demonstrates the possibilities that pre-existing sites can offer Melburnians as we reanimate the city post-Covid. MPavilion Parkade is the embodiment of design as a social practice—a sustainability-conscious, community-bolstering action that empowers hundreds of designers and creatives in the process.”
photo : Timothy Burgess
City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Sally Capp said: “Our city’s economic recovery is just beginning, and we need new and innovative activations and events to encourage people to rediscover everything that Melbourne has to offer. MPavilion Parkade will be a major drawcard while showcasing the famous creativity of our city. The City of Melbourne has been a supporter of MPavilion, and the program for January 2021 is truly something special.”
Parkade architect Peter McIntyre also commented:  “I am absolutely delighted the MPavilion will be using the car park—it’s a very imaginative idea. It’s a useful thing to do with it because cars are on their way out. In the end, looking back on it, it is a true modernist building. It followed those very early principles of modernism in that it was clearly functional, no-frills, no decoration, in some senses, very brutal. It’s very complimentary that we are going to have MPavilion gathering there, and I never imagined that happening!”
photo : Timothy Burgess
MPavilion’s January theme ‘Preservation: Propagating Knowledge’ encompasses a vast spectrum of events that look to Indigenous knowledge and practices, the generation of adaptive spaces, communing with nature while empowering the young, and the embracing of radical new design approaches. As the primary location of January’s program, MPavilion Parkade will play host to a huge array of experiences, conversations, activities, and more, including architectural and design events, jubilant live music performances, interactive installations, and fun workshops for kids and families on school holidays.
photo : Timothy Burgess
Key events of January include a conversation with Julian Burnside AO QC, circus classes presented by Westside Circus. a Chunky Move dance residency, a Margam dance class with Tara Rakjumar OAM and Nithya Gopu Solomon of Natya Sudha Dance Company, architectural film screenings curated by architect and filmmaker Toby Reed, a roller-disco, a concert for dogs (and their humans) with Henry Wagons (in partnership with Melbourne Music Week), a discussion about the power of tapestry with Architects Peter Williams AM, Amy Muir and Australian Tapestry Workshop Director Antonia Syme AM, a climate change meditation led by yoga instructor and founder of Mistletone Records & Touring Sophie Miles, a breathwork soundscape with Make It Up Club curator Nat Grant and artist Dina Smirnov, Yogabean yoga classes for kids, and much more.
photo : Timothy Burgess
MPavilion’s MProjects—a series of unique creations and residencies commissioned exclusively for MPavilion—includes the First Nations Early Career Writers Residency initiative, the BLAKitecture series of talks and events on Indigenous architecture, MPavilion education guides for schools, upcycled staff uniforms by fashion designer Chelsea Hickman, and physically-distanced stools for on-site events by interior designer and architect partners Holly Board & Peter Grove. Other highlights include collaborations with  Bakehouse Studios, Melbourne Music Week, and Open House Melbourne. This summer, MPavilion will also collaborate with Uptown—an outdoor art exhibition at the top of Bourke St—to present a series of talks, workshops and city walks. Details to be released soon.
With over 500 collaborators presenting 400 free public events, including talks, performances, kid-friendly activities, and installations, MPavilion this year has taken on a critical role in the city by adapting its program to support community needs. By making adaptive re-use of the Parkade car park, and reanimating the MPavilions of previous years— including Amanda Levete’s MPavilion at Docklands, Bijoy Jain’s MPavilion at Melbourne Zoo, and Rem Koolhaas & David Gianotten’s MPavilion at Monash University—MPavilion is responding to the challenges of the pandemic with creativity, community, and a revival of Melbourne’s outdoor and public spaces.
An expansion of this season’s events beginning completely online, MPavilion’s lively January program will primarily unfold in-person, in real physical locations across the city—including MPavilion Docklands and MPavilion Monash. The rest of MPavilion’s highly accessible online events, talks, Hope St Radio at Melbourne Zoo streams, and Summer Reading Lists can be enjoyed on the MPavilion website’s specific event pages, the MPavilion Library, or the MPavilion YouTube channel.
MPavilion is supported by principal partners, the City of Melbourne, the State Government of Victoria through Creative Victoria, RACV, and major partner Dexus.

About Peter McIntyre
In a career spanning over 70 years, architect Peter McIntyre AO has had a significant influence on Melbourne’s urban landscape. Educated at Trinity Grammar School, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Melbourne University, he founded a practice in 1950 that combined modern, high-technology materials with concern for “emotional functionalism,” or the impact of the built environment on its occupants. In 1953, he founded the McIntyre Partnership Pty Ltd. (previously McIntyre, Mcintyre & Associates) where he serves as practice director, principal, and senior partner. His extraordinary portfolio includes Parliament Station, The Jam Factory, The Butterfly House, and the 1956 Olympic swimming pool.

15 from Kiawe. What if it's on Sophy and Ace's wedding day?
platonic touch meme - accepting
15. Fixing shirt collar
Pacing, stopping, fussing with something on his suit, check this list, then check that one...It's a pattern of nervousness that he has been going through for the better part of an hour, and if one didn't know better than to make such a silly remark (to his face), they might claim that he's like a Togedemaru stuck on an exercise wheel--going absolutely nowhere.
But as things are, he has been left to his anxieties for a while, and it's only Kiawe calling him over that makes him stop.. for all of a handful of seconds before he begins rambling yet again, his worries not stopped in the slightest.
He doesn't protest when his friend's hands reach up and start to try and fix his shirt collar, but worry after worry continues to spill forth from his mouth, and he's so focused on his racing thoughts that he doesn't even notice Kiawe is done until suddenly hands are on his shoulder and there's a familiar expression--smirk and all--staring down at him.
The sudden realization that there's quiet around them is unsettling, and he shoots Kiawe a confused look, only to process that all of the noise he had heard before was from himself.
His cheeks tint a slight bit red at that, and when Kiawe laughs, Sophocles scowls at him.. only for that look to falter after only a few seconds and he follows suit, grinning despite himself as he pulls the other man in to a quick hug.
"I'm sorry, I just--This is all so new to me, and I'm terrified that I'm going to mess it up, you know?"
"You'll be fine, and even if you wouldn't be, you know Ace wouldn't draw attention to it unless she thought you were in danger."
"Yeah, but--"
"No buts--you've got this and you know it."
Sophocles pulls back from the embrace and sighs lightly.
"Well... I guess you're right--"
"--and tonight, you two can try to make some more shorty squad members without a worry."
Even though he's not truly angry, such a statement still earns Kiawe a punch to the gut. ..albeit a halfhearted one.
"--ass."
"What are friends for?"

Fall 2018 Power Rankings
Wow, I actually finished this shit sort of on time this season.
1 Yagate Kimi ni Naru: You know a show is good when you put off finishing it just because you don't want it to end. I did that with Yagakimi this season, and not only is it my favorite show of the season, I'm pretty sure it's my favorite yuri anime of all time. It's not just that Touko and Yuu are such an adorable couple, but that the story and relationship dynamics are genuinely original for a yuri anime. You've got two heroines who are de facto dating from the outset, so no will-they won't-they bullshit like most yuri stories (lookin' at you citrus)... But only sort of, because it's complicated. You've got one heroine who doesn't want her girlfriend to fall in love with her because she has a weird identity crisis because of past trauma and is afraid to embrace her own individuality which having someone fall in love with her would validate because she's "only herself" around said girlfriend... And then you've got the other heroine who thinks she's asexual/aromantic but slowly starts to realize she's actually just gay, but only after she's promised her girlfriend she won't fall in love with her because she "can't." To say this is a weird relationship is putting it mildly. There's also some stuff you usually don't see in anime at all, like another character who actually IS aro/ace, and a live-in adult lesbian couple (one of whom is actually revealed to be bi later on) who are the Big Gay Mentors to the younger characters. There is still the requisite amount of Yuri Melodrama, of course (elevated by a beautiful soundtrack from the venerable Haketa Takefumi) but it's so much more interesting than usual here. Oh, and of course, as I mentioned above, Touko and Yuu are the most darling couple ever, perfect cinnamon rolls who must be protected. Well, okay, maybe not perfect: they got issues. But I love this story and characters so much I actually picked up the manga to read what happens next, and I basically never do that. Maybe it's not technically the "best" anime of the season, but it's the one I love the most. ★★★★☆
2 SSSS.GRIDMAN: Somehow, based Trig just keep doing it. You'd be forgiven for thinking Darling in the Franxx, the show that has "SMART ANIME FOR ADULTS" practically engraved on everything about it, would be the 'cerebral' robot anime Trigger made this year, and Gridman, a spinoff of a cheesy tokusatsu show that was itself a spinoff of Ultraman, would be little more than a fun but forgettable robot romp. You'd be totally wrong, of course: Gridman is every bit the heavyweight that previous Trigger/Gainax robot anime are, with its own flair of course. It takes a while for it to fully develop and present its themes about social anxiety and isolation, but once it does it really pops off. The dual heroines of Akane and Rikka are brilliant, not just for their lewd character designs but also for how well their stories are written. Rikka is the real hero of the show--Yuuta might be the one jumping around in a robot, but ultimately Rikka is the most important. Stellar performances from both Ueda Reina and Miyamoto Yume as Akane and Rikka, respectively, really carry the thematic weight of the show. There is, of course, some great art and animation on display, as you might expect from Trigger, who always make the most (and then some) of whatever resources they're given. Episode 9, which takes place for the most part inside of a dream, was especially visually striking. An all around great production and one that won't soon be forgotten. ★★★★☆
3 Zombie Land Saga: With all that out of the way, here's a show about some moe zombies. Ah, anime, even after all these years it still finds ways to surprise me, like a show about moe zombie idols being as genuinely moving as it is hilarious. Probably the weirdest thing about Zombie Land Saga, even as a show that features the undead filming commercials for a Saga-based fried chicken restaurant and competing in a Takeshi's Castle-style mud Olympics, is that it unironically works as an idol anime, too. All the characters (well, except for Yuugiri, who is woefully underutilized) really do grow throughout the show and it gives the idol anime aspect a really solid backbone to build off of. Of course, Zombie Land Saga is more than just another idol anime, and calling it a zombie idol anime is somehow still selling it short. From the aforementioned chicken commercials, to the unforgettably epic zombie rap battle, to the middle schooler biker gangs, to basically everything Yamada Tae does, this show was not just surprisingly moving but shockingly hilarious at times. Also, it must be noted that these zombies are fricking adorable: definitely way cuter than the undead should ever be. Especially Junko who is the best girl, once again proving the superiority of Showa idols. ★★★★☆
4 Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai: Since this is a light novel anime through and through, it seems fair to describe it in terms of light novel anime: it's basically the Monogatari series meets Oregairu. Our sardonic protagonist with a heart of gold (and impossibly hot girlfriend) meets a bunch of high school girls with weird supernatural problems and helps them solve them. That might make it sound boring or derivative, but as I always harp on, it's really all in the execution and Aobuta sticks the landing. It reminds me of those above shows not just in narrative content but also in terms of how sharp the dialogue is: it is one of those delightful shows where you could have two characters just have a conversation for 24 minutes and it would still be endlessly absorbing. The reliable Ishikawa Kaito is great as our male lead, bringing not just snappy wit to the table but also a surprising amount of emotional depth in later story arcs. The aloof, sarcastic protagonist is of course done to death in this genre (hi, Kyon!) but Sakuta is certainly an example of it done well. It helps that he's such a loving oniichan and cute boyfriend, which really endears him to the viewer. The gallery of heroines is of course stocked with plenty of cute and sexy girls--the art and animation is top notch--but what really carries the show is Sakuta's relationship with his girlfriend (and best girl) Mai, which is a continuing story throughout the series even as the focus moves to other heroines. They're just so adorable together. Ironically, the element of the show that probably matters the least is the weird sort-of-sci-fi plot hooks: you're really just here to watch these characters talk through their emotions and stumble through adolescence, and the sci-fi plot devices are basically incidental to all of it. ★★★★☆
5 Himote House: Talk about a dark horse of an anime... Himote House is the latest... thing... from the man, the myth, the legend who brought us Minarai Diva, Ishidate Koutarou, and it's great. It's half nichijou-kei anime, half just a seiyuu radio show that's animated, and it's all superb. In the scripted bits, the show can get wonderfully weird, from the episode that used the Game of Life to teach us about the lack of gay rights in Japan, to the episode that took place entirely inside of a copy machine, and I haven't even mentioned the Bitcoin episode yet, which is too bizarre to even give away in this review no one will read. The unscripted bits are also great thanks to a collection of some of the seiyuu industry's top personalities, including the always great combination of Suzakinishi, comedic genius Mimorin, and the criminally underrated Mizuhara Kaoru whose performance as Tokiyo really must be experienced: it starts over the top and just keeps going from there. Even the cheap 3DCG animation is surprisingly charming, and it's at least good enough that these girls look genuinely cute, although the show is also helped along by regularly inserting some nice hand-drawn stills in the most important moments. Almost everyone probably overlooked this show this season, but I'd give it a hearty recommendation. ★★★★☆
6 Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san: I hope Comic Cune anime are here to stay, because this was certainly the best pure nichijou-kei offering this season. It's "cute girl vampires" but, as you might expect from the source, this is the most laid-back depiction of vampires you're ever going to find in fiction. None of the human characters even seem to be remotely bothered that vampires are in their midst, the sun is an inconvenience that mostly makes it harder to go buy manga in the middle of the day, and they order their blood from Amazon. Even when a vampire hunter shows up, she's just won over by the vampire girls' cuteness. It does use vampire lore to tell some amusing jokes at times, like Sophie getting trapped outside because she had to count all the seeds in a sunflower, or Akari getting a plank put on her in bed because the vampires felt bad that her bed didn't have a lid, but mostly you're just here for the cute girls cuting, and cute they do. There's the requisite amount of soft yuri, and the character designs and animation are fantastic. Very little to complain about here--the show's only real weakness is that the jokes are occasionally kind of meh. Ellie is best girl. ★★★☆☆
7 Uchi no Meido ga Uzasugiru!: Shocking no one, the Comedy God delivered again. This show is frequently laugh out loud funny, and it's helped along by animation from Douga Koubou that is right up there with some of the best they've ever produced. The sole factor that makes this show somewhat weaker than Oota Masahiko's previous works is that with its completely absurd comedic premise it is ultimately trying to tell a very serious story--about a little girl who is terrified of having her late mother replaced by having any other adult woman enter her life--with a premise that definitely should not be telling a serious story. The show is at its best when Tsubame (voiced by Numakura Manami in some of her best-ever work) is being an irredeemable lolicon shithead, not a role model. Still, the show is pretty great most of the time, and it only gets better when ドM best girl Midorin turns up about halfway through. The Russian loli is pretty cute too I guess, but as seems to always be the case in these shows (I can't help but remember another Douga Koubou production, Mikakunin de Shinkoukei) the silliest and most perverted girls always steal the show. ★★★☆☆
8 Irozuku Sekai no Ashita Kara: It's a P.A. Works original, so that means it's time to complain about how it's not as good as other P.A. Works originals! Seriously though, although it's not the second coming of TARI TARI, this show is easy to recommend, being beautiful both artistically and narratively, with a simple and heartfelt story to tell about a girl going to a new place (well, a new time) to discover herself. Yep, you guessed it, this is one of my favorites: sentimentality anime! Girl literally learns to see the beauty in the world that she had been blind to by leaving her comfort zone and falling in love. Good shit, good shit. My main complaint is that the best girl, Kurumi, gets short shrift as best girls often do, although she at least does get one little story arc to develop her character. Ishihara Kaori is solid as the female lead, but I just loved Naobou as the snarky Kurumi so much. It's also worth noting that although the cast actually has a fairly even gender split, all the male characters are pretty much inoffensive to likable, which is all I really ask in a show like this. There's no one on the level of Wien, but Chigusa and Kurumi's relationship was pretty cute. Overall, though, this show is just about drinking in the atmosphere and the feels, and trying to avoid thinking about time paradoxes. ★★★☆☆
9 Akanesasu Shoujo: I had cautiously high expectations for this show going into the season, and although it didn't blow me away with a masterpiece, I was satisfied with what I got. The show doesn't have the best production values, but it has a solid premise that is executed well. A group of misfit high school girls in the incredibly lame Radio Club find a way to slip between alternate dimensions, have misadventures where they learn that The Real Power Was Inside Us All Along, and end up saving the universe from being consumed by some vague evilness. The story comes courtesy KID's Uchikoshi Koutarou, and definitely feels like something you might find in a science fiction visual novel. It's not afraid to be at least a little adventurous, with the various dimensions we visit being varying degrees and kinds of social commentary, and it even goes as far as killing off major characters and actually letting them stay dead! Plus, it had Kurosawa Tomoyo basically playing like three or four characters at once, which has to be worth something. If nothing else, I respected this series. ★★☆☆☆
10 Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet: Romeo and Juliet may well be the Bard's most widely popular play, so it's not surprising that now we have an anime version of it... sort of. In true anime fashion, this is not a tragedy of star-crossed lovers, but a comedy of errors about two goofball kids who fall in love at a ridiculous boarding school. Set against a backdrop of, uh, race war. Kayano Ai's blondenblu Juliet is pretty cute but as is typical in these shows the best girls never win, namely Ayaneru's Hasuki and the actual best girl, Shimamura Yuu's Chartreux. As always, the gay girls are the best. The show does have an unusually likable protagonist for one in this genre: Romio is a big dork who is singlemindedly dedicated to his cute girlfriend, and even if she's not the best girl, you definitely want to root for them. A pretty good show. ★★☆☆☆
11 Animayell!: Kirara anime are playing second fiddle to other cute girl shows again this season, but like Harukana Receive last season, this show is still decent. What it lacks in a compelling premise (sorry, not only do I come in thinking cheerleading is lame, but the show's animation isn't good enough to get it over as a cool thing) it makes up for in the most important ingredient for an anime, homosexuality. Not only is there the immaculately gay Hanawa-chan and the extremely homo Ukki, for some reason at one point theres also a completely random, out lesbian side character who asks our heroines for advice confessing to her female home tutor. But yeah, it's definitely worth it for Hanawa and Ukki at least; your mileage may vary on the rest of the actual show. ★★☆☆☆
12 Sword Art Online Alicization: I've repeatedly gone on record saying I love a slow burn, and I don't necessarily mind when nothing happens in a show if its at least giving me some good atmosphere and characters to gnaw on in the meantime... But man, is the new SAO one slow-ass show. Though I've never read the books, this really feels like a case of following the Original Way too closely. That's not to say that what is here is bad by any means; there's some truly interesting concepts, a good SAO story, and of course some stellar animation, but they probably could have cut this first cours down to like, six episodes and still accomplished the same things. I still have confidence that it will get more hype as we progress, though. There's a long way to go in this one yet, so this rating is anything but final. ★★☆☆☆
13 Debidoru!: This show is an ugly looking 3DCG abomination that was probably made in MikuMikuDance, but thankfully we now live in a post-Kemono Friends world, and so Debidoru! was still pretty great. You couldn't ask for a better trio of voices for an ad-lib stuffed comedy than Hanazawa Kana, Mimori Suzuko and Iguchi Yuka and they fill their roles with aplomb, especially Iguchi, who at one point tsukkomis so hard she clips the microphone. Like the best no-money shorts it also had some moments of true ART, like Sugahara Souta (the director) singing the moe opening song (in one uncut take) for no reason, or one of the greatest things I saw all season, episode 11, which was done (also in one take) entirely with paper cutouts of the characters in front of a camcorder. It's not really a mastapeece in the way Himote House was, but it was certainly a memorable little show. ★★☆☆☆
14 Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu Mama: I'm as surprised as anyone that this show ended up as low as it did, but by the end of the season I had a hard time convincing myself to even load up the latest episode of this one, and it's hard for me to really even say why. On the face of it it should be my jam: it's full of cute girls and pastel colors, and it's even occasionally lewd. Really, it's probably just because there's so many male characters who get a decent amount of attention in the narrative. It also doesn't help that Beelzebub (despite being a cute blondenblu voiced by Oonishi Saori) is not really a very appealing character, which makes the protagonist, who is constantly fawning over her like she's the best thing since sliced bread, come off as less likable as well. It had some good stuff too, like Sargatanas's shyness and Gocchin's needing to pee constantly, but I guess it wasn't quite enough to hold my interest. It also doesn't help that my favorite girl, Eurynome, was barely even in the show after she was introduced. We ankle fetishists gotta stick together, man! ★☆☆☆☆
15 Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: I had exactly zero expectations for this show to begin with, so I was pleasantly surprised with it at first. Those great typographic effects, especially, really sucked me into the first episode and I was excited to see where it went for the first few weeks, especially with the promise of cute girls on the horizon. The girls have been underwhelming, though (mainly by virtue of their having nothing to do in the story) and what actually is going on in the story, I find incredibly dull. Rimuru is just such a booooring protagonist, and his very existence tends to sap the tension out of scenes since you know he's ridiculously OP and will probably just absorb whatever bad thing shows up next like he's absorbed every other bad thing up to that point. 俺TUEEEEEE isn’t even necessarily something I hate, and it can be made to work, but Rimuru isn’t cool enough of a guy or really interesting in any way that I can self-insert and live vicariously through his TUEEEEE-ness. Just give me more Shion, she is the best purple oni secretary. ★☆☆☆☆
16 Hashiritsuzukete Yokattatte: I guess I should put this down since it's technically a show I finished from this season. It's kinda boring and lame, do not recommend. The girl with the glasses never even puts them on, she just wears them on top of her head like a doofus the whole time. Might have been able to deliver some feels if it was in a longer format, but just falls flat due to the <60 minute total runtime. ☆☆☆☆☆
