Emirates Airbus A380-842, A6-EVH. The Airbus A380 is a large wide-body airliner that was developed and produced by Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner and only full-length double-deck jet airliner. Airbus studies started in 1988, and the project was announced in 1990 to challenge the dominance of the Boeing 747 in the long-haul market. The then-designated A3XX project was presented in 1994; Airbus launched the €9.5 billion ($10.7 billion) A380 program on 19 December 2000. The first prototype was unveiled in Toulouse on 18 January 2005, with its first flight on 27 April 2005. It then obtained its type certificate from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on 12 December 2006. Due to difficulties with the electrical wiring, the initial production was delayed by two years and the development costs almost doubled. It was first delivered to Singapore Airlines on 15 October 2007 and entered service on 25 October. Production peaked at 30 per year in 2012 and 2014. Havayolu amiral gemisi A380’lerle, uçtuğu şehirlerin sayısını 42 şehre çıkarırken, haftada 400’den fazla seferle, yıl sonuna kadar 85 Emirates A380 uçağının aktif hizmete geçmesi planlanıyor.

Emirates bugün en yeni Premium Economy kabinleriyle donatılarak tadilatı yeni tamamlanan A380 uçaklarını Aralık ayından itibaren New York JFK, San Francisco, Melbourne, Auckland ve Singapur dâhil beş yeni şehre düzenlenecek seferlerde kullanmayı planladığını duyurdu. Emirates, yenilenen A380 ile gerçekleştireceği EK203 ve EK 204 sefer sayılı New York JFK uçuşlarına 1 Aralık’tan itibaren başlayacak.

Premium Economy kabinlerinin görücüye çıkacağı EK 448 ve EK 449 sefer sayılı Auckland uçuşlarına 15 Ocak 2023’ten itibaren başlayacak.

Melbourne, 1 Şubat 2023’ten itibaren Emirates’in imzası niteliğinde olan ve Premium Economy kabinlerinin yer aldığı A380’lerin Avustralya’da ikinci uçuş noktası olacak. Bu uçuşlar EK 406 ve EK 407 sefer sayılarıyla gerçekleştirilecek.

San Francisco, iç tasarımı yenilenerek tadilatı tamamlanan A380 uçaklarla ABD’de hizmet vereceği ikinci noktası olacak. EK 225 ve EK 226 sefer sayılı uçuşlar 15 Şubat 2023’te başlayacak.

Emirates’in Premium Economy özelliğine sahip A380’ler, EK 354 ve EK 355 sefer sayılarıyla ilk kez 1 Mart 2023’te Singapur’a inecek.

Emirates, tadilatı tamamlanan A380 uçaklarıyla Londra Heathrow, Sidney ve New York JFK’ye gerçekleştirdiği tarifeli uçuşları da aşağıdaki seferlerle güncelleyecek:

Sidney, 15 Aralık 2022’den itibaren Emirates’in yenilenen uçağının EK 414 ve EK 415 sefer sayısıyla yeniden hizmete girmesi ile birlikte, havayolunun uçuş ağındaki tüm uçuşlarda Premium Economy koltuk sunan ilk şehir olacak.

Londra Heathrow’a Premium Economy ile yapılacak üçüncü günlük sefer, yeni ürünün EK 005 ve EK 006 sefer sayılı uçuşlarda kullanıma sunulmasıyla 1 Ocak 2023’ten itibaren başlayacak.

Emirates, Premium Economy koltukların yer aldığı A380 uçakla New York JFK havalimanına yapacağı ikinci uçuşunu 15 Mart 2023’ten itibaren EK 201 ve EK 202 sefer sayısıyla gerçekleştirecek.

Emirates ayrıca 26 Mart 2023’ten itibaren Dubai – Sidney seferinin bir ayağı olarak, Christchurch’e Premium Economy sınıflı A380 seferlerine başlayacak. Uçuşlar EK 412 ve EK 413 sefer sayılarıyla gerçekleştirilecek.

A380 seferleri artırılıyor

Seyahat talebinin son iki yılın en yüksek seviyelerine ulaşmasıyla, Emirates A380 ile hizmet verdiği uçuş noktalarının sayısını Mart 2023 sonuna kadar 42’ye çıkararak yolcularına daha fazla seçenek ve deneyim sunacak. Havayolu bu güçlü talebi karşılamak için eşzamanlı olarak uçuş ağını da optimize ederek mevcut uçuş noktalarını Dubai’den yapılan A380 seferlerinin sayısını 400’e çıkararak geliştiriyor. Emirates, yolcu konforunda en iyiyi sunmak için Mart 2023’e kadar A380 koltuklarının kapasitesini premium kabinlerinde 81.000 koltuk dâhil haftada 460.000’e çıkarmayı hedefliyor.

Houston, Bangalore, Perth, Auckland, Hong Kong ve Kuala Lumpur gibi şehirlerle uçuş noktalarının sayısını artıran ve ilerleyen haftalarda başka şehirlerle ilgili duyuru yapmayı planlayan havayolu, yıl sonuna kadar uçuş ağının neredeyse üçte birine amiral gemisi olan 85 A380 ile hizmet veriyor olacak. Listedeki şehirlerin sayısını artıran Emirates, pandemi öncesi A380 uçuş ağının %75’ine ulaşmış olacak. Havayolu ayrıca hâlihazırda amiral gemisiyle hizmet verdiği popüler şehirlere sefer sıklığını artırarak operasyonlarında daha fazla esneklik ve istikrar sağlıyor.

Premium havayolu seyahatinde çıta yükseliyor

Emirates’in Premium Economy Class koltuklarını Londra, Paris ve Sidney’de görücüye çıkarmasının ardından, yolculardan gelen tepkiler son derece olumlu oldu ve beklentilerin üzerinde talep oluştu. Tüm bunlar, ürünün cazibesini ve yolcuların sunulan sade lüks detayları ve titizlikle özelleştirilen deneyimi yaşama isteğini ortaya koyuyor.

Emirates’in dört sınıflı A380 uçağında, Premium Economy kabini 2-4-2 yerleşimine sahip 56 koltukla ana gövdenin ön kısmına yerleştirildi. With hundreds of passengers on Emirates Flight 203 from Dubai to New York off the plane and evaluated, health officials will try to pinpoint the cause of the illness that sent 10 passengers to the hospital and left dozens of other passengers reportedly feeling sick.

The investigation of what went wrong will involve the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state, local and airport officials.

Officials will zero in on passengers on the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet who got sick as well as those who didn’t to try to determine the source of the illness, according to Dr. Robert Amler, dean of New York Medical College’s School of Health Sciences and Practice and a former CDC chief medical officer and New York Regional Health Administrator.

“This is really medical detective work,” he said.

Among the questions that will be asked, Amler said:

Were the passengers who went to the hospital seated in a particular section of the plane or spread throughout the plane?

What did the affected passengers eat on the plane?

At what point in the long flight did they get sick? And did they all get sick at once or was it gradual?

“In a disease investigation of any kind, you begin with trying to say what is common on the sick and still was rare among the well?” Amler said.

The early signs point to flu symptoms, according to a spokesman for New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. The CDC reported that many passengers complained of cough and fever.

Investigators will pay special attention, of course, to test results from passengers who ended up in the hospital. The airline identified three passengers and seven crew members sick enough to be sent to the hospital. The mayor’s office said it identified 19 ill passengers, with nine refusing medical attention.

“The results of those tests can also be very, very helpful,” Amler said. “Is this some kind of infection? Is this some kind of toxic exposure to some chemical in the plane? Could this be some kind of mold exposure, or some other kind of food or water borne exposure?”

The good news, Amler said, is that officials are trained on how to investigate these situations. There are regular drills.

“This kind of scenario is a well rehearsed one,” he said. “Every member of the team is going to know what their expectations are.”

Amler said the investigation is not likely to drag on.

“Typically after a few days they should be getting their arms around at least the most likely scenario,” he said.

After Flight 203 landed, the plane was taken to a location away from the terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to a statement from the CDC. Medical personnel from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention boarded the aircraft to evaluate the situation and provided immediate assistance before passengers deplaned and were processed by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

By early Wednesday afternoon, Emirates had its A380 back and announced a three-hour delay on the return flight to Dubai.

The CDC said it will provide updates as they become available.

Emirates announced Wednesday that 10 passengers were taken ill on a 14-hour flight from Dubai to New York, where the aircraft was met by US health authorities.

US media showed images of the double-decker A380 aircraft isolated on the tarmac at John F Kennedy International Airport. US media initially reported that 100 passengers had been taken ill and that the jet had been quarantined.

KCI prepared for possible plane quarantine

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If a potentially catastrophic health emergency happened on a flight bound for Kansas City International Airport, the fact that the airport and health department are both under city control would streamline the decision-making process.

It’s not uncommon for flights to divert to airports across the country, including KCI, when a passenger becomes ill or suffers a heart attack, but a KCI spokesman said he’s not aware of any incident requiring an entire plane to be quarantined.

An inbound plane from Dubai with 500 passengers aboard was quarantined by federal health officials Wednesday at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Initial reports indicated as many as 100 passengers were ill, but Emirates Airlines issued a statement that “about 10 passengers … were taken ill.”

Could it happen at KCI? Anything’s possible, but KCI Marketing Manager Joe McBride said he can’t recall a similar incident in the airport’s history.

“When we had issues with SARS, we’d deal with the occasional sick passenger, but we never had to quarantine a whole plane,” McBride said.

McBride said it wouldn’t be the airport’s call about quarantining a plane anyway.

If a pilot raised health concerns aboard a Kansas City-bound flight that were communicated with the KCI tower or airline, McBride said officials would contact the KCMO Health Department for advice.

It’s possible the Health Department would, in turn, reach out to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but the airport would defer to local health officials for guidance.

“We would keep the airplane from coming to the gate if there was reason for concern,” McBride said.

He said it’s probably a larger concern for inbound flights from international destinations, which accounts for the actions taken at JFK, but it’s something to be aware of with KCI ramping up its international presence.

After decades with few international flights, aside from a flight to Toronto and seasonal flights to Mexico, KCI added direct flights to Europe this year by reaching an agreement with Icelandair for service to Reykjavik.

Flights from Kansas City to Iceland’s capital were scheduled from May to September, and officials with the city and airline will meet later this month to discuss the 2019 schedule.

When completed, a new terminal also may increase KCI’s international presence.
