Ectoberhaunt 2023: Science VS Magic
Dear Phandom new and old, sorry for the delay but this here is our 2023 theme and prompt list!
Once again we've changed it up a little to make it a little easier on all of us, and to invite fun and mayhem Phandom wide! Prompts are once again Monday-Friday, with Friday being singular prompts, and weekends being (mostly) free as catch up days.
The only real change is our new 'isekai weekend' on the 21st and 22nd, with two different sub prompts for the days.
Isekai is a subgenre of anime in which a character ends up in a different place or world all together. It literally translates to 'otherworld'! The two prompts for this weekend are 'past prompt', where we want to see the Phandom use a prompt from either of our previous calendars. The other is 'portal shenanigans'.
We highly encourage you to create crossover content and AUs you've wanted to play with.
As always, our last prompt day is October 24th to make way for the Ectober Week event. This means our free days are the 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, with the 25th-31st being @ectoberweekofficial's time to shine.
Please tag all prompt fills as "Ectoberhaunt23", and follow the additional posting guidelines below!

Obsession
It started out as a necessity. The opening of the portal was his fault; his brash, stupid, dangerous mistake. So it was only right for him to do damage control. That’s all it was at first. Danny cleaning up the shrapnel of his errors, nothing else.
And even if it somehow wasn’t his fault, even if the portal would have opened without his intervention, be it through the sheer idiotic determination of his parents or through the awesome strength of an overzealous ghost…
Well, if that was the case, then this outcome was inevitable. He would’ve needed to take up his parent’s mantle at some point, halfa or not. His father always said that ghost hunting was in their blood. At first, that simply wasn’t true. Danny didn’t capture rouge ghosts because he enjoyed it, he did it because it was his burden to bear- it was only right for him to correct his mistake. After all, if he didn’t, an entire town would suffer.
Soon, it became routine. People began to know his name, began to look for him in the skies when the ghosts were close enough for even a human to feel its otherworldly chill. There was a thrill to it, along with the weight briefly lifted off his chest. Each ghost caught was another life saved and an iota of guilt temporarily relieved, but it was also proof that his actions were necessary. It was proof of the damage he had done all those years ago, and proof that the fallout would never stop.
People would just keep getting hurt because of him, fighting in their honor wasn’t a choice. With these powers, he could, no, had to, help, even though (no, because) he had caused so much destruction. Even though he would continue to do so.
And anyways, maybe his dad was right, maybe ghost hunting wasn’t all that bad. Sure, it hurt sometimes, but he always made it through, saved the day, made a few witty jokes, et cetera. And he could always smile through the pain if it meant a few less disgusted glares at his snow white hair and ethereal glow. After all, Danny wasn’t human. He deserved to suffer. So why was he trying so hard?
Now, he isn’t quite certain what it is. He has so much help and so many friends. He could take a break. He doesn’t have to keep fighting, keep hurting; keep spending those late, late nights sewing together his own skin, trying so hard to not let his parents see the old green and red stains crusted between the bathroom floor tiles. But he’s having trouble sleeping now, when the nights are quiet, when there’s nothing otherworldly about Amity Park. Even through his exhaustion, he feels the need to get up, to protect everyone, to come home yet again, bleeding and bruised, hiding secrets that don’t need to be hid. And anyways, he can’t stop now. Since, after all, this is his fault. If he let other people help, opened the door to his rotting heart, then what would he be? Just a ghost boy with human powers?
Or maybe just a freak- somewhere between ghost and human, lost in the misery between living and dead.

Day 12 - Way of Life, Cause of Death
Still, she persisted.
It hadn’t taken her all at once, of course. The hurt, the drive, the suit. Standing there, underneath a glowing moon, she knew that. The steps were individual, and she had taken them intentionally. Each pull of a trigger, each tiny hope that it would land true and firm and she’d never have to pull it again. It never did. She made the choices willingly, willfully, with no thought to the consequences. Her dad had always told her she was impulsive. A fair argument, even when she was a kid, as there were some nights that she rumbled the walls of their house, too big for just the two of them, with hare-brained stunts of childhood gymnastics or chemistry.
And now he was dead. And still, she persisted.
When she accepted the first version of the suit, she only thought of her target. Her hunt. She didn’t think of the black-and-red target stuck permanently on her back, only the rush of flying. She didn’t think of the victim, only of the power behind the barrel. She didn’t think she would become the Huntress, just a huntress. But she did. The second version of the suit, the one that sat under her skin and itched, just secured her fate. She had become the ultimate version of herself, and she hadn’t known. She had only wanted to protect, to fight back, to fight.
Once, she realized, she wasn’t able to judge a child’s fear at a glance, taste it in her throat. Once, her teeth didn’t sharpen, her ears didn’t point. Once, she didn’t notice that he had the same. But now, she hovered, bobbing slightly in the passing wind, over the rubble. She tasted it all, the pain, the fear. The anger. The anger tasted best, and it helped sharpen her sight. She saw her target, there, and she pointed her pistol.
She will persist.

Ectoberhaunt 2022: Order & Chaos
What's this? Two themes working together? Why, yes dear Phandom, this year the opposing sides of our theme will be working together against... foes?
We changed it up a little and decided to do prompts only Monday-Friday and left the weekends open as catch up days for you, the creators (and for us on the mod team!). And just like last year, our event ends on the 24th to make way for the Ectober Week event!

Heyo! Just wanted to pop in and say I spent all day reading Fresh Wounds on AO3 and I absolutely love it! I read the second part of the series too, but the third part seemed to reference things that I think maybe I just missed? Is there more that's not in the collection, or are those details just a sneak-peek at what you have planned?
Im so glad you liked it! ^^
Gauze, the third story listed in the series, is meant to be an epilogue of sorts, so it does reference some things that. Technically haven’t happened yet since i haven’t actually written Main Story Part Number Two (The direct sequel to Fresh Wounds)
I have the basic plot for it but i just. Havent gotten around to it yet
