Orter Madl x Reader
I'm feeling very fluffy atm so,
・゚゚・。
In the bustling city where magic reigned supreme, Orter Madl, known for his stern demeanor and dedication to the status quo, found himself feeling a peculiar sensation – longing. Despite his cold exterior, Orter couldn't deny the warmth that radiated within him whenever he thought of you, his significant other.
Days passed, and Orter found himself missing you more with each passing moment. Your laughter echoed in his mind, and the memory of your gentle touch lingered in his thoughts. Determined to show you how much you meant to him, Orter decided to plan a surprise for you, despite his usual reserved nature.
Quietly, Orter enlisted the help of a few trusted allies, carefully orchestrating every detail of the surprise. He poured over intricate plans, ensuring that everything would be perfect for the moment he would reveal his affection to you.
Finally, the day of the surprise arrived. Orter's heart pounded with anticipation as he waited for you to arrive at the designated location – a secluded spot adorned with enchanting flowers and shimmering lights.
As you walked into the space, your eyes widened in surprise at the sight before you. Orter stood there, a softness in his eyes that you had never seen before. With a slight tremor in his voice, he expressed his feelings for you, his words imbued with sincerity and vulnerability.
"______, I know I may not always show it, but you mean everything to me," Orter began, his voice steady yet filled with emotion. "Every moment we spend together fills my heart with warmth, and I couldn't bear the thought of not having you by my side."
Touched by his heartfelt words, tears welled up in your eyes as you stepped closer to him. "Orter, I... I had no idea you felt this way," you whispered, your voice filled with emotion. "You mean everything to me too."
In that moment, Orter's icy exterior melted away, revealing the depth of his love for you. Without a word, he reached out to you, pulling you into a warm embrace as he held you close.
From that day forward, Orter made a conscious effort to show his affection for you in small, meaningful ways. Though he remained stoic and reserved in his demeanor, his actions spoke volumes, reminding you of the depth of his love and devotion.

As the request asks ♥️
Warnings: none, mentions of muscular gender neutral reader. Fluff and a little mention of competitiveness.

A/N: thank you for the kind words and sorry for the wait! They’re a little short as my mind doesn’t like to work atm 😒 but enjoy ♥️

Echo 💪
Tumblr media
Echo didn’t think much of it first. Obviously he saw how well-built you were especially around the arm area but it wasn’t until he witnessed you carry two heavy crates with weaponary that made his skin tingle excitedly.
He was in awe and before you got in a relationship he would admire your strength in silent admiration. He is not at all threatened that you are probably stronger than him as he adores you all the same.
Tech 💪
Tumblr media
Tech acknowledges your strength almost immediately and sees it as a tactical tool for missions in the future. However, when things start to form between the two of you he treats you no different.
Don’t be shocked if he asks for your hand in replacement of Wrecker when it comes to heavy repairs on his ship as he loves speaking to you of them all. And at the same time, you can help rip out ship components he needs whilst you listen to him babble about whatever he desires.
Wrecker💪
Tumblr media
Obsessed. In both a good and bad way.
When you first joined the squad he had a horrible feeling he was going to be replaced when he saw how defined your muscles were. He stayed silent for once and watched your strength in action on the battle field but when he discovers you’re not as strong as he is, he’s a little smug.
There was slight competitiveness when it came between the two of you which he started (of course) by asking if you could lift this or watch him lift that and so on. But, you mutually bonded because of it! His pride in his muscles is still at the top and he really likes having a strong partner too. It makes gym a lot more exciting too.
Hunter💪
Tumblr media
When he first laid his eyes on the muscles in your calves and thighs, his head nearly explodes. You had both been dating for a while but for some reason it has only taken a few months to fully notice how jacked you were… and he loves it!
You were both sparring and he was a little surprised when you knocked him on his rear a good few too many times that he had reached out to grab your leg to pull you down but instead grabbed shear muscle.
“Oh, wow! Work out much?” He chuckles warmly to which you shrug playfully.
“Just a bit.”
Crosshair 💪
Tumblr media
Now this guy is a little more complicated. He acts unbothered by your strength and defined features but he is a little jealous. He knew he was always on the leaner and slim side - still muscular but clearly not as much as you were.
He always had a snappy remark about anyone he meets but with you? No. He is in awe and when he’s scoping ahead and keeping targets off your back, he sometimes gets distracted when he sees you rip a clankers head clean off without as much as a grunt. He would smirk and nod his head approvingly. “That’s my cyare.”
Rex 💪
Tumblr media
Truthfully, Rex did not notice how jacked you were until one day he is walking by one of the gyms on Kamino when he spots you through the window, lifting weights that he knew he definitely could not lift himself. His eyes widen in quiet surprise and he observed you for a moment too long because when you caught him staring, his cheeks caught aflame and he scampers off as if he was on a man on an important mission. But, he was very impressed with what he saw.
When the two of you get together eventually, you like to tease him about that day you caught him gawping at you to which he only replies; ‘can you blame me? You looked incredible’.
Gregor 💪
Tumblr media
This handsome man is strictly infatuated with your body. Not only your face but your physique would send his mind whirling and sometimes he would act like an excitable pup when he sees you do something impressive.
Although he can do a lot of stuff himself, he would be his cheeky self and ask if you could ‘lift’ something for him but that’s just to see you at work and admire your strength.
He always reminds you on how lucky, amazed and bewildered by how incredible you look. On your low days, he is always there to give you lots of love and attention and would offer a massage if you’re ever feeling tense. To be fair, this man could not take his eyes and hands off of you.

I'm reading some sequels fic atm, primarily centered around Finn sparking revolutions amongst the stormtroopers. Which fuck yes, please, I wish we had seen that.
But what kills me, as all of star wars does at this point, is how names are for them. And how clone troopers had no names and then stormtroopers didn't and then maybe did and then the first order troopers didn't again. And how Finn Chose his name. A trooper Choosing his name and how it is More significant than just being Given his name by his parents and how it echos the stormtroopers before him and the clones before them.
Just.
Names. Names.

15. what wip are you taking into next year with you?
adaptive nature, unless i somehow manage to finish it before the end of this year (which is doubtful, but not entirely impossible. it would just take more time than i can probably spare atm)
29. favourite line/passage you wrote this year
ooo. quite a few, some from adaptive nature come to mind but this one is one of my favourite (and more recent) ones
“Seek the forgotten heart,” she says, “Seek it in the darkest depths, and remember to bring your brightest light. Your light shall test you, as will the past, and the flower has thorns that you will not spot. Trust in them, for the flower shall aid you, and the past will guide you. Remember,” her face is going hazy, and his legs have gone almost completely numb, “You are not alone. You do not carry the ice of Aeor with you any longer, I have spared you that burden. Love those around you, or they can slip away far too quickly for you to truly cherish.”
Her face fades, the last of her advice echoing in his ears as he sinks back into a more blissful darkness.
“Hold your heart close, for there is no greater weapon, my dear child.”
I just like this chunk because it's something i had wanted to write for a while (that whole end of the chapter has been drafted since i started writing adaptive nature lol) and it holds a Lot of significance for the penultimate few chapters of the fic ;)

5 ways I’ve minimalised my life and why - BonnyBirdNerd
Tumblr media
Minimalism is a great idea. But bringing this way of life from your Pinterest board into your home, appearance and habits can be tough. It requires commitment, concentration, and consideration - three Cs that, for some, can be chores. Everyone’s ambitions and appetites for change are different. Rather than doing your utmost to imitate a single minimalism guru (as lovely as they are), it may be more helpful to consider one or other of these entry points - and if you’d like to dig deeper, I’ve linked my supporting research.
Reinvent your inventory
Decluttering! Easier said than done in a world chock-full of pretty, shiny, purchasable things. But if you’re looking to improve self-esteem, it’s worth jumping in - recent research from Japan (Aso, 2018) shows that people aged 12-54 who took part in four weekly workshops about health and living spaces improved substantially on clinical self-esteem questionnaires.
Aso, Y. (2018). An educational program for young people who have difficulty decluttering and organizing. European Journal of Public Health, 28(suppl_4), cky214-137.
Redirect the debits
Financial trouble is a ditch everyone should avoid falling into in the first place, but if you find yourself in it, there are significant steps you can take to get out. If your spending habits easily get out of control, ask your bank about a basic bank account. Basic bank accounts are designed for people with bad credit scores, or other vulnerabilities that make it harder to preserve money. They’re similar to any other account - you can make withdrawals from ATMs, set up direct debits and standing orders, and use online banking, but you won’t be eligible for perks like overdrafts or cashback. If you’re on good ground financially, it’s still worth keeping track of your direct debits and regular spending, even just by keeping them in a note on your phone.
Keefe, J. (2011). Guidance to help tackle mental health debt. Mental Health Nursing (Online), 31(2), 10.
Try being timeless
The practice of living in a minimalist way has also been called ‘voluntary simplicity’ or ‘deconsumption’. But is achieving ‘voluntary simplicity’ simple? According to Błoński & Witek (2019), it can be as straightforward as slowing down and honestly considering purchases. What does this look like? Investing in one high-quality dress as opposed to eight terribly-made pieces, using local sharing and freebie apps, and most pressingly, resisting the pressure to impulse-buy - a superpower the shops don’t want you to gain! Personally, I combine this with strategy 1 by thinking ‘one in, one out’ when I’m about to buy something - have I recently done sufficient decluttering to sensibly allow this new shiny thing into my life? I know it sounds harsh, but I’m happier for it.
Błoński, K., & Witek, J. (2019). Minimalism in consumption. Annales Universitatis Mariae Curie-Skłodowska, sectio H–Oeconomia, 53(2), 7-15.
Switch the socials
In his book Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World, Cal Newport advocates taking an audit of your technology use, including social media. Digital minimalism, he says, means that “you focus your online time on a small number of carefully selected and optimized activities that strongly support things you value, and then happily miss out on everything else”. So if you want to get away from Facebook’s toxic echo chambers and creepy ads, but can’t bear to miss out on the latest scorching memes, perhaps a more focused platform is the answer. I’ve found Pinterest to be an ideal replacement space for inspiration, useful tips and mindless amusement, without the constant badgering to ‘connect’ and ‘share’ my every thought. Alternatively, you could simply try a day or two without any kind of scrolling. See what strange and wonderful things are waiting around the corner!
Janssen, M. (2019). A Guide to Digital Decluttering: A Review of Digital Minimalism.
Make more moments
It’s worth asking, why the surge in minimalism’s popularity? Has the whole world decided to become an Ikea? Uggla (2019) notices that people living minimally in the USA and Europe lean towards conscientious, activistic, even radical justifications for their choices. Polish minimalist bloggers express wanting the greater freedom that comes from owning few material possessions, while Americans adopt minimalism out of wanting to save money and time. One common theme in people’s self-reported minimalist journeys is being able to find a deeper sense of self and meaning after they have offloaded their unnecessary stuff: the fast pace of a life built around constant consumption and novelty is destabilising to a person’s identity. In other words, after stepping out of the rat race and saying no to keeping up with the Joneses, it’s easier to move towards the things you really wanted all along.
Uggla, Y. (2019). Taking back control: Minimalism as a reaction to high speed and overload in contemporary society. Sociologisk forskning, 56(3-4), 233-252.

In a significant move, Philadelphia's Republic First Bank has been officially shut down by regulators. This unexpected closure marks the end of the road for the local bank. However, there's a silver lining for its customers as the bank is set to make a comeback, but this time as part of Fulton Bank. The transition promises a fresh start for both the bank's clientele and employees, aiming to offer a seamless banking experience. Stay tuned for more details on how this change will affect your banking services. [ad_1] In a significant move that caught the attention of the banking industry, Philadelphia-based Republic First Bank, also known as Republic Bank, faced closure by regulators. This action by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) has put the spotlight on the bank, which had been a notable entity serving areas in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Before its closure, Republic Bank boasted assets of around $6 billion and had managed deposits worth approximately $4 billion as of the end of January. The banking landscape saw a swift change with Lancaster, Pennsylvania's Fulton Bank stepping in to take over. Fulton Bank has agreed to assume almost all of Republic Bank's deposits and purchase the majority of its assets. This strategic move ensures minimal disruption for customers, with Republic Bank's 32 branches set to reopen under the Fulton Bank name. Customers were assured access to their funds, through checks or ATMs, indicating a seamless transition managed by the FDIC. This closure is not just a singular event but part of a nuanced narrative affecting regional and community banks in the current financial climate. The backdrop of rising interest rates and the dip in commercial real estate values, particularly post-pandemic, have introduced significant challenges. Many regional lenders are navigating these turbulent waters, trying to manage loans against depreciated property values, making refinancing a complex task. Republic Bank's situation is a manifestation of broader industry trends, with the bank becoming the first FDIC-insured institution to fail this year. The incident echoes the challenges faced by smaller banks, highlighting the precarious balance between growth, risk management, and economic fluctuations. The closure of Republic First Bank underscores a critical moment for the banking sector, reflecting on the health of regional banking institutions and the importance of financial stability in uncertain times. As the industry watches how Fulton Bank integrates this new acquisition, the event marks a significant turning point, raising discussions on the future of banking, regulatory measures, and the resilience of financial institutions in adapting to evolving economic landscapes. [ad_2] 1. Why did Republic First Bank close? Republic First Bank was closed by regulators because of issues with its financial stability. This is a process banks undergo when they aren't able to keep up with their financial obligations. 2. What happens to my account at Republic First Bank now? Don't worry, your account will automatically move over to Fulton Bank. You'll still be able to access your money, and it'll be business as usual just under a new bank name. 3. Can I still use my Republic First Bank checks and cards? Yes, for a while, you can still use your checks and ATM/debit cards like you normally would. Fulton Bank will let you know when it's time to switch to their checks and cards. 4. Is my money safe? Absolutely. Your deposits are still insured by the FDIC up to the legal limit. This means your money is protected just like before, now under the roof of Fulton Bank. 5. How do I access online banking now? You should be able to use your existing online login details to access your account through Fulton Bank's website. If there are any changes or updates needed, Fulton Bank will guide you through the process to make sure you have uninterrupted access to online banking. [ad_1]

pairing: george weasley x muggle!reader
warning(s): idk you might cry, i sure did but what else is new. loneliness/discussion of sexual content/idk
A/N: i still have no motivation to write and/or read. and it’s the absolute worst. but i wrote the bulk of this story back in december/the beginning of january, and i figured maybe i’d try and write the ending and publish it and see if it’ll spark any inspiration in me. i’m real, real, real sorry if i haven’t gotten to your fics to read (i’ve got them all saved!) i just don’t know what’s wrong with me atm and it’s THE WORST. also it might evoke more emotion if you listen to this while reading this lil fic. thank you, to all of you, for your support and patience, always.
disclaimer: i do not give consent for my work to be posted on ANY other platform.
Seven-year-old George Weasley watched with wide eyes and a goofy grin as his father twirled his mother in the family space of their normally bustling and loud home. But tonight, the Burrow was quiet. Everyone was already sound asleep, his five brothers and his younger sister. George should be too, but he just couldn’t fall asleep no matter how much he tried. He fidgeted uncomfortably in his sheets and kept groaning, and it wasn’t long before his twin brother Fred threw a few pillows at his face, and eventually, George decided to get up and go for a stroll.
He hid strategically on the staircase so his parents wouldn’t see that he was still wide awake at nearly midnight, and he watched as they swayed lightly to the music emitting from somewhere in the house. It was light as a feather, the music, a small piano tune that echoed through the lower level, its sounds traveling effortlessly up the stairs of the home. Mr. Weasley dipped his wife and Mrs. Weasley giggled like some of the young girls George had seen in the village, kind of a nervous giggle, and he watched her blush. He saw his mother placed her head gently on Mr. Weasley’s chest and they both closed their eyes, and George wondered if they were happy to have a moment of peace without their seven children running around causing mayhem.
He wondered if they danced like this every evening, after everyone had already gone to bed.
George noticed a weird sort of feeling in his chest; he wondered why his heart was hurting. Was it because there was something wrong? But then he realized that wasn’t the case, for the aching in his heart came from his pure desire to find exactly what his mum and dad had -- a love like none other, with seven children, a home with multiple stories, and more treacle tarts than one needs.
He vowed in that moment, as he watched his parents from the staircase and tapped his foot quietly in rhythm with the music, that he’d find love like that one day.
He wanted someone to choose him first, just like his parents chose one another.
He brought his hand to his chest, as if to calm his rapidly beating heart, for the sheer idea of finding a love like theirs filled him with such excitement that he was certain he wouldn’t be able to sleep now. Seven-year-old George Weasley laid in bed, ignoring the soft snores from his twin across the room, his eyes wide with wonder as he dreamt of the woman he’d dance with one day.
Twelve-year-old George Weasley wasn’t ready to date. He was only twelve years old! He much preferred to dream.
He knew when he looked at the girl across from him that she wasn’t the one, lovely as she was. He adjusted his Gryffindor tie and cleared his throat and focused on the Potions assignment in front of him. It wasn’t exactly a date, was it? He was in a Potions lesson with his classmates, and Snape. But when the cute blackhaired Hufflepuff approached him and asked if he’d like to work together on the next of Snape’s ridiculous concoctions, Fred poked his brother in the ribs and winked, as if to say, If you don’t partner up with her, you’re a right prat.
And so George did what he thought was gentlemanly and he said yes. He could tell by the rose pink colour that flooded her cheeks that she was smitten with him, and that she’d asked him to be her partner because she was smitten. And he had to admit, she really was quite cute and very, very kind.. and rather smart for her age as well. And he knew that she’d make some man very, very happy someday. It just wouldn’t be him.
He did what was asked of him. He measured out the correct amount of powdered Griffin claw. He made sure he and his partner had enough salamander blood for their strengthening solution. And he smiled back at his partner, though his heart and his mind were still with the girl he’d dance with one day.
The Hufflepuff tried her hardest to capture his heart, but it belonged to someone he had yet to meet.
She wasn’t the one that felt like home.
-- -
Sixteen-year-old George Weasley didn’t understand why all of his classmates wanted to snog people and move onto someone else without so much as a blink.
So many people were pairing off and lasting less than a week before moving onto someone new. George rattled his brain for answers, he searched the eyes of his classmates for explanations, but he couldn’t understand why people would want to hop from one person to another. Didn’t they want to find love, a love that’s long lasting and pushes boundaries and moves mountains and weathers the storms it meets?
But perhaps, he worried, maybe that’s where he was going wrong.
Maybe, in order to find what he truly yearned for, he needed to be reckless and love without really loving.
Maybe he needed to search less, in order to find her.
And so he decided, with much persuasion from Fred, that he’d ask that pretty brunette Ravenclaw to the Yule Ball, and he’d dance and drink firewhisky and maybe he’d even kiss her, if the courage he tried to summon stayed with him throughout the night.
And maybe if he did all those things, he’d forget about the one his heart desperately craved.
And for a little while, he really did forget. Perhaps he could get on board with this “love the one you’re with” mentality. Maybe he could just be in the moment without worrying about everyone else. Maybe he could kiss girls without feeling anything, maybe he could date casually, maybe he could be like everyone else his age and not think about weddings and marriage and having children.
“Georgieee,” the Ravenclaw slurred on the dance floor. She tugged on his tie and pulled him close. He could smell the firewhisky on her breath and his heart began to pound when she pressed her lips lightly to his cheek. “Dance with meeee.”
No, this wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted more than this. He’d always wanted more than this.
George begrudgingly agreed and caught Fred’s eye from across the dance floor. The elder twin threaded his brows together and pushed the air with his hands, as if encouraging his younger brother to go for it. The Ravenclaw dazedly draped her arms across George’s shoulders and he sheepishly looked down toward his feet, but didn’t wrap his arms around her.
“George Weasleeeeyyyy,” she slurred again, hiccoughing in between giggles, “I said dance with meeeeeee.”
He tried to fight it, tried not to think of what he always did, but he couldn’t help it.
This girl was not the one. He could tell, because there was no love in the way she said his name. There was no true feeling in the surplus of kisses she kept pressing to his jawline, and there was no warmth radiating from her -- not the kind that mattered, anyway.
He knew, as he placed his hands gently on her waist and swayed with her to the music, that this was not what love felt like. This is not what home felt like.
He danced anyway, even though it was not the kind of dancing he’d seen his parents do all those years ago, and he allowed himself to think about what the rest of his classmates weren’t -- the person he’d hold in his arms, who’d be the mother to his children, who’s kisses would send him spiraling, who’s embraces would become all too familiar in a way that would comfort him in the darkest of times.
He allowed himself again, to dream of true love.
-- -
Seventeen-year-old George Weasley was sick and tired of waiting for the one.
It sounded kind of dramatic in his own head, seeing as he was only seventeen, but he’d known now for ten years exactly what he was looking for, and ten years seemed like a lifetime.
It didn’t help that nearly all of his friends had gotten over their casual dating scene and were now all enthralled with their significant others. He felt so painfully lonely, though he’d never admit it to a soul. He could hardly admit it to himself.
One evening, he shot up from the couch and out of the common room in a fit of fury, for if he had to see Fred and Angelina snogging in the corner for one more minute, he was quite certain he was going to explode from disgust. He was happy for his brother, of course he was, but he didn’t need to see it. Not as often as that.
He found Ron sitting in the Great Hall with Ginny, Harry, and Hermione and plopped beside them all before engaging in exciting rounds of exploding snap. But as the night grew darker and he grew more tired, George noticed the undeniable chemistry between his sister and Harry and his brother and Hermione. Though they all hadn’t admitted to one another how they felt, George had found it obvious, and he politely excused himself before he tugged his jacket rather angrily around his shoulders before he walked out into the winter storm, just to feel the cold air numb his skin.
He walked out of the castle, over toward the owlery, through the treacherous amounts of snow. Anything to distract George from everyone who’d apparently been hit by Cupid’s bloody arrow.
Ever since he was born, it had always been Fred and George. What about George and Fred? Was it because Fred was older? And why were people always lumping them together? Just because they’re twins? George loathed that. They were individuals too. He was always second, in everything.
In getting hand-me-downs from his older brothers. In being referred to with his twin. In lessons when the professors would call out their names for attendance, because F came before G in the alphabet. And even when it came to love; all the girls always seemed to flock to Fred instead, because he was more exciting. More boisterous. Less shy.
The cold, winter air bit violently at his exposed skin, and he reckoned it hurt less than watching everyone around him find someone that chose them, all while he was still waiting for the right person to choose him.
George Weasley didn’t want to be someone’s second choice.
He wanted to be someone’s first.
-- -
Twenty-year-old George Weasley didn’t know how exactly he ended up here.
He didn’t know how he ended up in a relationship three years deep, without having said “I love you” once and actually meaning it.
George thought he might’ve found her, his person, during his seventh year. She was beautiful and kind and everything he thought he’d hoped and dreamt of. Her soft touch, her yearning eyes, the way she curled up next to him in the dormitories late at night and held onto him as she slept -- it was everything, and it seemed to be perfect.
He thought that maybe, perhaps, she was it. But even so, he found himself waiting, still, for that feeling… the one on the staircase he’d felt so long ago.
But the pain of realizing that she wasn’t who he’d been searching for was more heartbreaking than the pain of him asking her to leave.
He’d been looking at her through rose coloured lenses and had been ignoring the truth that was right in front of him.
He should’ve left years ago, when that Gryffindor girl began to make backhanded jokes about the shop, and his dreams of becoming a business entrepreneur, claiming that she was only joking around.
He should’ve left when that girl showed up late to the grand opening of their shop, nearly a year into their relationship.
He should’ve left when he held her in his arms, and still didn’t feel comfortable beside her.
His heart ached for it, what he’d felt on the staircase at the mere age of seven. And perhaps he’d become so desperate for it, that he took something disguised as true love.
But the truth was that he knew, deep in his soul, that this Gryffindor girl wasn’t the one. He’d just chosen, outright, to ignore it. Perhaps if he could forget that idea that “the one” would smack him square in the face with an overwhelming sensation of knowing, he could have learned to love her, even when he hadn’t had that smack in the face moment when he’d met her all those years ago.
But it hadn’t happened, had it? He hadn’t grown to love her. Not truly, anyway. And she hadn’t grown to love him. Not in the way he wanted to be loved, at least.
Because it was more than just heated kisses and lazy days in bed and all things physical that he wanted.
It was about love. Pure, blinding, unadulterated love.
He stood frozen solid in the middle of his tiny flat and watched as that Gryffindor girl grabbed her coat off of the hanger and raised her hand slightly before slipping silently into the dimly lit hallway for the very last time. And George poured himself a glass of bourbon and sat near the window, looking up at the stars, expecting to feel sad at her departure, but in fact, he didn’t feel sad at all.
He felt hopeful.
He hadn’t found the one yet, but he knew she was out there, getting to him as fast as she possibly could.
Though his brothers had urged him to come to the pub and meet someone else, George didn’t fancy the idea of doing that. He was over that entire scene, just as he was in school when everyone was pairing off and moving on immediately. He didn’t want something fleeting, and he didn’t want something meaningless.
He wanted something true.
-- -
Twenty-three-year old George Weasley was certain that he was never going to find that feeling ever again, for as long as he lived.
While all of his friends were out at the pubs, meeting people and fooling around as if feelings weren’t involved, George was walking aimlessly through the streets to work. He was constantly dealing with the haze above his head, waiting for it to lift. He was turning down girls left and right and ignoring his brothers’ insistence on dating casually again.
He didn’t want to waste any more of his time on people who weren’t going to reach out and trace circles onto his chest in the middle of the night, or who weren’t going to dance around the kitchen in his clothes while cooking dinner, or who weren’t going to look at him with eyes so tender, it would render him useless for days to come.
He’d been waiting sixteen years to find his person, the one who would choose him everyday over everyone else, and in hindsight it didn’t quite seem like a long time. But as he cried silently to himself every few nights in bed, feeling the empty space next to him and yearning for the one who was meant to be there, sixteen years felt like a lifetime.
He thought for a long while, that maybe she was in another country, or maybe she was an auror or something, fighting her way through the monsters of the wizarding world.
He’d thought for a bit that perhaps he just hadn’t met her yet.
But as the days dragged on and he found himself lost in crowds, searching face after face, looking for hers, he truly felt as though all hope was lost.
And so George paced back and forth in the kitchen of his flat, biting at his nails and pouring himself hefty glasses of wine, keen on ignoring everyone’s attempts at getting him to come out.
Maybe this was what he deserved.
Maybe because he wasn’t out there, sleeping with people whose names he wouldn’t remember come morning like everyone else, he was just going to be alone.
Maybe there really wasn’t someone out there for him. Maybe not everyone finds true love. Maybe his parents had just gotten lucky.
The dull ache in George’s heart grew stronger, and for the upteenth night in a row, he laid in bed and gripped the covers and cried himself to sleep, his tears sliding down his cheeks the same way the evening rain slid down the window terrace.
-- -
Twenty-four-year old George Weasley stopped dead in his tracks as soon as he felt it.
That feeling. The one from the staircase as he watched his parents dance, all those years ago.
Heart pounding, chest rising, hands freezing.
It hit him square in the chest without warning, nearly knocking him over though his feet were rooted into the ground at the spot, smack dab in the middle of that cafe in the middle of London.
Someone was playing a slow, soft piano tune coming from the other end. People were filtering in and out, asking the man in front of them what exactly he was staring at and why he wasn’t moving. But George Weasley stood where he was, not taking his eyes off of you.
You were reading furiously, flipping through pages of a book gripped tightly in your hands, as though you couldn’t devour the plot fast enough. George watched with admiration as a gentle smile tugged at your lips, as your eyes scanned the words quickly, as you tapped your foot on the ground, in rhythm with that slow piano.
He watched with dazed eyes and parted lips as you finished the end of your book. You dabbed your eyes with a tissue and clutched the book tightly to your chest, overwhelmed, clearly, by the end of the plot. George’s heart soared so high at your passion that he found himself struggling to hold back the I love you that was pressing behind his lips.
You immediately took a long sip of your tea and placed your finished book back into your bag, only to pull out another and immediately immerse yourself in the next story. George laughed to himself, stunned that you were so intent on falling into someone else’s storyline, if only for a little while, that you hadn’t dared take a break from one book to the next. You merely jumped right in.
He wondered if his overwhelming feelings called out to you like a signal of sorts, because just as he was working up the courage to walk over to you, you looked up. You searched the room for a moment before meeting his gaze and suddenly, the world around you both stopped.
George found himself wanting to know everything about you. He itched to devour up any and all information you’d be so kind to provide to him -- your name, your favorite color, your birthday. He wanted to know what book you’d just been reading, and what about it had moved you so much to the point of tears. He wanted to know everything, but deep in his soul, he also knew that he’d have years to learn it all.
In fact, he’d have the rest of forever.
Your eyes went soft and George began to feel the steady pounding of his heart increase, and to his amazement, he noticed a gentle smile tug at the edges of your lips.
And he smiled back.
He’d been right all along. That feeling of finding the one would smack him square in the face. He wondered, as he peered at you now, biting down on your bottom lip and looking toward the ground, why he’d ever doubted himself in the first place. And he wondered when you looked back up at him once again and raised a hand to say hello, if you’d been smacked in the face with that feeling too, just like he had.
He resisted the urge to pour his heart out to you, right here and right now. He’d have time.
Perhaps today was just about having today, and recognizing that you were everything he’d been looking for since that evening on the staircase.
He’d tell you this one day.
-- -
“And what does… Lumox mean again?”
George laughed and squeezed your hands. “You mean, Lumos?”
You bit your lip in embarrassment and laughed, too. “Yes! Lumos. That’s the one that produces light, right?”
George brought your hands to his lips and kissed them gently. You two were seated inside a bustling restaurant in Diagon Alley, and he wondered if people passing by realized just how cozy you two looked together. “You’re more brilliant than most witches I know.”
You cocked your head to the side with an air of confidence and batted your eyelashes at him. “What can I say, Georgie? I may have been born a… Mugglie… but maybe I was meant to be a witch.”
George had to bite down on his lip to keep from laughing. He couldn’t get over how painfully adorable you were as you attempted to pronounce these wizarding words and learn spells and charms and things as he taught you all things about the wizarding world. You took his wand and pointed it at your wine glass, pretending to transfigure it. You couldn’t, of course, since you weren’t a magical being. But George didn’t mind. He could watch you pretend all day long.
In all his years of studying magic, he’d never felt anything quite like this.
BONUS, just because i hate feeling sad asf:
Thirty-two-year old George Weasley rocked his redheaded daughter back and forth in his arms, until he was certain that she was sound asleep again -- her mouth open wide as she began to snore softly when he placed her back into her crib.
He peered up at the clock on the wall and blinked a few times before 4:32 a.m. came into focus. Exhausted, he made his way back into his room before sliding into bed.
And there it was again. That feeling.
You turned over in bed to face him, squinting in the darkness as your eyes adjusted to the scene unfolding before you. Groggily, you reached out and traced your fingers across his jawline. His heart nearly stopped. “Is she alright?” you asked sleepily.
George grinned softly and leant forward before pressing a kiss to your forehead. He whispered, “She’s alright. Go back to sleep.”
Though your eyes were already shut, you reached out again and took his hand in yours before bringing your lips gently to his fingers. “Okay.. I love you.. G’night..”
But you were asleep again before George could respond, so instead he pulled you closely to him and began to gently trace circles on your bare shoulders. He breathed in the smell of your shampoo, and listened intently for the beating of your heart that had fallen into sync with his.
Tears pushed at the edges of his eyes, but he slowed his breathing and reminded himself, again, that there was no longer an empty space beside him in bed.
Maybe he shouldn’t have ever given up hope, but perhaps giving up hope was what made finding you so much sweeter.
If only he could tell seven-year-old George what he’d find when the time was right.
And in the darkness, as the rain pattered on the rooftop of his house and he felt your embrace tighten around his body, he whispered into the silence, “I love you, too.”

do you happen to have any spare kel Dor headcanons? not on any particular subject, i just really like yours.
DO I EVER!!
Here are only some of them because I have many and these are the ones I have on hand atm. There are some things from Legends that I’ve mixed in, mostly just to tie some headcanons together. im also compiling a fan made index of words for the kel dor that i can post at a later date hahaha
- A Kel Dor’s first name holds no major meaning like most other species' names would, but is an onomatopoeia from the various noises that the storms and planetary noises that are made on Dorin (this is partially canon but then again Legends is just not canon now so whatever). What is important are the last names, as those are attached to Clans and have actual meaning to them.
- Kel Dor Clan Names are based on the Clan's original trade or job. The Koon family name, for example, meant 'explorer' while the Raal name means 'reader' and Keevil is one of many ways that had been used to say 'navigator' in the ancient days
- Often a Kel Dor's given name is single syllabled but there are those who expand to up to three, however those are rare. One and two syllabled names are more common and recognized.
-This is due to an ancient superstition about the "wind spirits" of Dorin. Upon hearing the sustained wind-sound of a long name, so the story went, the wind spirits would have mistaken the child for one of their own, and carried him or her off to be raised as a wind-child.
- Though depending on where you are on the planet, the superstition can change to where children who didn’t have short names that matched the noises were spirited away because the spirits believed, as the Kel Dor were seen as the “children” of the spirits, that those children with names that were too long were not their “children” and took it upon themselves to “rid” their “children” of the imposters.
(More under the cut)
- The Spirits, in Kel Dor culture, love to play and Wind Chimes will keep them busy in general. Having a wind chime near your bed or the bed of the child with the longer name kept you or them safe from being stolen away because the spirits were too busy playing with the chimes to even think about taking the person away.
- The tradition of using the sounds of planetary phenomena mean that Kel Dor given names appear to have almost no meaning to an outsider, but another Kel Dor who had heard the sound in question and could identify the phenomenon would understand the significance and meaning of the name. But still, the Kel Dor don’t hinge their lives or any sort of care on that name. For them it is the Clan name that holds importance, as many name meanings do overlap
-For example, Ban Sult's name has next to no meaning to a human, but to the Kel Dor they know that Ban comes from the Dorin equivalent to a Skyquake and for the Sult Clan that signifies one who is courageous and spontaneous
- Plo’s name corresponds to the thunder and is given to one who will become wise and strong. Sha’s is in reverence to the sound of the rain when wind blows it around, and has the same root meaning of Plo’s.
- Saf Koon’s— Sha’s Mother and Plo’s sister— is similar to Sha’s in that it is the noise that is created when rain comes down in sheets but is blown by the wind. Saf has the meaning of new beginnings.
- Fae Koon’s is in reference to the wind that goes through the mountains while Ath Lirn’s to the wind that goes through the valley— both share the same meaning of one who is of compassion and joy.
- Tep Raal is the noise rain makes when it hits the ground and is the name of one who is also strong and wise.
- Lun Feng’s name comes from the echo of thunder that is in the mountain valleys— a thing that is felt more than heard, and thus the meaning is so.
- It is considered it very bad luck to name a child away from Dorin. In the event that a hatchling is born off of Dorin, it is simply called as "An'ak'na" or "Child" until the parents can return to Dorin to name them.
- Kel Dor that are off planet and are meeting for the first time will introduce themselves as their Clan before they use their first name.
Usually it would go something like:
“I am of the Koon Clan Line, well met.”
“Ah, an explorer. Well met, I am of Eerm.”
“A Hunter then! Koh-to-yah, my friend. Your Clan is well, and wait for the days the winds bring you back home.”
- If a Kel Dor is greeting another in a formal setting and they do know one another, Clan names are still often brought into the greeting
“Koh-to-yah, Master Koon! It has been a long time, has it not? The Feng Clan sharpens its talons in anticipation for when the Winds lead you home."
“And to you my friend, I am certain the Koon Clan watches the horizon for when the Winds return you home as well."
- Kel Dor are basically immortal when it comes to age. They just. keep existing. They can be killed, obviously, but dying of old age was an unknown to them until they started interacting with people outside of Dorin. They just... released themselves into the force once they were ready. Though they didn’t call it the Force, they called it “returning to the winds”
- Back on the topic of the Wind Spirits for a moment, but belief of them ranges from Kel Dor to Kel Dor. Nonetheless, the Kel Dor don’t exactly worship the wind spirits as fervently anymore but they certainly believe in their existence still. They have a healthy respect for them and still keep with a lot of their traditions from the ancient days.
- Nearly every Kel Dor is force sensitive, but not all of them meet the requirements to be taken note of by the Jedi Order. Even those who would often do not go, though it varies from family unit within Clans. The Koon Clan sends some, most steamming from Plo, Fae, and Sha's direct relative line, along with Dural, Braga, and Kowa Clans having their own Jedi within the Order through out the millennia
- It's not actually rare for Kel Dor to be off of Dorin, but a lot like Shistavanens, it's harder to find them off Planet. Many will stick to Atmosphere type III planets. Keevil, Koon, and Kowa are the most likely to be seen off planet— affectionately called the wandering Ks among the Kel Dor— as they are navigators, explorers, and merchants.
- That said, the most insufferable of the Kel Dor that was off planet at during the twilight years of the Republic was their last Senator before 19 BBY— Sage and Senator Lun Feng.
- Lun Feng is a living terror to the Senate whenever anything towards the Order, the GAR, Dorin, or Dorin’s Allies are brought up and the Senate Lives In Fear™
- You know how Plo Koon asks the Council chamber to lower oxygen? Lun does that in the middle of Senatorial Meetings if he feels as if someone's bigoted rant needs to be interrupted.
- Whenever Lun Feng brought up to the Council by the Senate, Plo just wheezes because yeah, they should’ve known better than to expect anything but difficulty to the Kel Dor.
- Before Feng, Nir Yilk was the Senatorial Representative with four aides, two of which were Dural and one was a Braga. The fourth was of Raal, much like one of Feng's aides— Tep Raal.
- Kel Dor gender is a very wide spectrum but have been boxed into three possibles due to outside culture while they’re off world. Kel Dor gender is based off of their minds. (we’re not gonna talk about physical differences because I have words about it)
- They have a fifteen click system that they use off Dorin, but Plo does state that there are far more than 15 genders among the Kel Dor because Gender is more or less something that just doesn't matter to them. All Kel Dor can bear and sire children, so why does it matter?
- As Kel Dor are not a mammalian species, if they were to cross species reproductively there is a much higher chance of crossing with other non mammals. However, cross species children are very rare no matter if the other partner is or isnt a non mammalian. This is in part that Kel Dor reproduction in general is somewhat difficult— the act isn't its just that no one is sure why there is a low hatch rate / low number of children who survive.
- Kel Dor in the Order aren't exactly exempt from the No Attachment Rule, unlike Cereans, but this is simply due to the population numbers of the Kel Dor being much higher than the Cereans. Sure a good chunk of them are hundreds of years old, but there's no urgency to reproduce— aside from the fact that Kel Dor adore children.
- Speaking of No Attachment, it gets rather difficult because the Kel Dor view attachment a bit differently than many other sentients. This is because the Kel Dor are a very communal species that creates emotional ties and mental 'webs' of connections with both friend and family.
- They thrive off of those connections and webs that they create and should their web be destroyed all at once, the psychic damage is very damaging to the point of a Kel Dor possibly dying. The damage can be controlled in one of two ways— entering a state of self induced Coma to heal slowly over time usually with the Kel Dor working mentally through the damage as well, or by another Kel Dor throwing up very, very strong walls to minimize the damage and assist in healing. The Kigh Clan specializes in this, though Fae Koon has some skill there as well.
- Should only a portion of the web or connections get destroyed at once, it is a bit easier to deal with. After Order 66 Saa Kowa and Fae Koon both managed to sustain minimal damage due to their larger web of connections with the Sages back on Dorin.

How do I stop being frustrated that someone says they can't reply to my "longer" thread with them (our only thread) because it's hard for them to write "long" replies atm but they write long replies with their other closer partners? Even combined other those replies add up to a lot of writing, way more than my thread with them.
Hey, Anon!
I am so sorry that this answer is likely to be awful, but it's at least honest and I really mean that I'm sorry about both the situation and that there isn't a whole lot to be done for it. Sometimes, just hearing someone else understand what you're going through and echo your own thoughts is helpful, though. It can really help solidify options we know exist, but maybe, we just weren't ready to acknowledge them.
This is one of those situations where you're the only person involved you can change in any way, so it's good that you're wanting to mitigate your frustration instead of changing the other mun. Good on you for that!
It's certainly frustrating! I try to take on at least one or two blogs at a time who have come to me expressing a desire to write more, they want to become lengthy multipara to novella RPers, and this is quite often the situation I end up in. The mun can manage to churn out lengthier replies to a handful of other muns, but not me. Ultimately, it tends to be a combination of them not being super invested in our plots/the action in the thread right off and my writing style. I can be a difficult person to reply to unless the other mun is also deeply, and I mean, like, Marianas Trench deeply, thrilled by writing in and of itself...and I also do not quick-ship or quick-smut as well as writing muses who can preclude those common interests anyway.
I say that because there might be some similarity going on here, and understanding the why of it can make things a bit less frustrating and personal feeling.
You might also write in a style that is harder for this person to jump right into and roll with - especially if these other blogs getting the lengthier replies are a little below the other mun's writing skill level. People often feel like they're up to and excited by a challenge until they really get into the thick of it, then, it's stressful and they can feel like they'll be judged if they do not write as well as they perceive their writing partner is.
You might have muses and preferences that are not aligning with what they most want and are, as such, most inspired by to write more. Again, that can seem interesting as a challenge, something like a slowburn or platonic interaction, or even a muse that is more difficult to interact with, but once someone who isn't usually into those situations gets into one...it just feels like delay and boredom to them.
I'm not saying that your threads, writing, muses, or you, yourself, are frustrating or boring! Simply that this has been an issue in the past with these situations not just for me but also for other muns I've known, so, it might hold some significance here.
There isn't any good way to do this, I'll be honest, but if you're so frustrated that you're willing to risk losing them as a mutual to feel better about this situation, I'd suggest talking to them about it. Handling it with a lot of care, of course. By that, I mean keeping this all phrased as a you problem not a them problem, regardless of how accurate or upsetting that might be. Don't directly state that it's a little hurtful and frustrating that they can magically expend the effort to write more with everyone other than you!
If you go this route, try something like:
"I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but I wanted to talk to you about something. Is there something I'm doing that is making it harder for you to reply more to me? I notice that your other interactions are longer and seem to be easier for you to do. I know you said that you have difficulty writing longer replies, but if there's something I'm doing that is making it harder, I'd rather know so we can have a better time."
Like I said, still likely to be received poorly. No matter how you phrase it, it's probably going to come off as accusatory or like you're being jealous. I'm only advising it as something for you to consider because, either way, it could lessen the frustration you feel to more actively discuss it with them.
I am pretty sure you don't want to go the route of calling it quits, either. However, I'd definitely be dishonest if I did not advise that as a possibility.
If their actions are making you so frustrated that it's distracting you from better partnerships, making you outright angry a good deal of the time, or otherwise ruining your time here more than it isn't...they really shouldn't be someone you keep writing with. Your frustration is totally valid, you are expending more effort than they are, and watching someone put that effort into everyone else's threads but yours is not a good time. And it isn't something you can expect to change, rather, this situation usually resolves by one mun or the other simply ceasing to reply to the thread quietly.
That isn't ideal for anyone, even though I very much understand the inclination, and you know what? On some rare occasions, that can be the nicest and most peaceable thing one can do. You really do have to know the other mun to decide that. If they're someone who is going to be very hurt, suffers from RSD, or has ever expressed, be that privately, on the dash, or in their rules, that they want people to tell them when a thread is dropped, please, tell them you're dropping. If they're someone who is going to be incredibly hostile about it, who has a ton of threads they struggle to keep up with, might not even notice or be relieved, it might be better. I still will advise 99% of the time to tell someone when you're dropping a thread.
If you don't want to unfollow because you enjoy this mun OOC, they are, or have become, a friend or just someone you enjoy on your dash, a lot of muns are perfectly fine remaining friends and mutuals without continuing to write together. So long as you're not being caustic about how you end writing together, of course! Just telling them that you don't think you mesh as well in writing as you do OOC is a good way to inoffensively end a thread - and it isn't untrue! Again, takes some awareness of the mun as a person, but if they won't take it the wrong way (projecting the meaning of "you're boring, you suck at this, I don't like you" onto what you've said), you can even tell them that you have lost interest in the thread.
Anyway, as I said, I'm very sure that's not an option you are looking for at this time either, but...it is an option. You will be less frustrated if you remove the source of that frustration.
An option you might like a little bit better is trying to allow yourself to...sort of reposition the importance of these threads.
Think of it like this - if you have ten threads and you're not dealing with frustrating partners in eight of them, you can make the two that are a problem low-priority interactions.
I know it's even more frustrating if you're doing something in the threads with this mun that you were very excited about. For some reason, for the longest damn time, every time I had someone who was up for a plot, muse, or verse I had been dying to do, they were not exactly great writing partners. It's so disappointing when you're excited, getting to do something you've wanted to finally, but you're forced to accept that you're kind of still not getting that thread. It's the truth, however. You aren't actually getting what you wanted here, even if all the pieces are in position on your end because they are not, and will not be, on the crucial other end of things.
If that's the case, seek out people who might be interested in something similar from within the group of mutuals you are happy interacting with. It's actually pretty rare that, once you have more than just two to three active mutuals anyway, you don't already write with someone who wants to write even more with you. Maybe they don't know you have a burning need for that plot or to use that verse, maybe they just aren't sure about asking you about it, there are a lot of reasons why! Usually, we're all simply busy with what we're doing and don't notice until someone directly asks/mentions it. So, when you've identified which mutual is most likely to be interested, don't just post on the dash that you want x and hope they pick up on it - directly talk to them about it.
You can also include elements of what you were excited about in already existing threads. Use those things as inspiration for those plots, the developing characterization going on in them, and so. Try to remember that everything doesn't have to happen all at once, nor should it, actually. It's alright to only sort of know how you'd like to include that bit of inspiration in an already rolling thread! Once you're aware of wanting to, that you are totally allowed to do this, and somewhat how, you're prepared to see the moment when it happens and jump on it.
Even if this isn't the case, placing higher importance on the threads written with muns who are returning your energy is a great way to feel less frustrated by the one you feel is devaluing you. There is absolutely nothing inherently wrong about having threads, muses, plots, and muns of different personal priority levels. So long as you're not being shitty to anyone involved or trying to hide it, it's fine. Creativity is not something linear and equal at all times, just as this other mun is obviously more invested in other people, you can be as well. Just be more honest and self-aware than this mun is being with you.
If you think you can't do that because it's your Process to reply in order and/or to queue replies when they're all done, neither is a hindrance. No one is actually watching the order you do your replies in. You can do the ones you feel most inspired by first, don't queue them yet, then, do the replies you know you're not going to get much other than frustration out of last. This way, you won't be wasting the creative effort on those threads either, you'll be concentrating it on the mutuals who appreciate it more. It's absolutely possible to do things with the organization you might require while still making it a better experience for yourself.
Furthermore, sometimes muns do get annoyed when their shorter replies are not the ones replied to quickly. Particularly when they outright state that short replies are their preference, this is usually a part of their process and they feel like it's easier and faster for everyone else because it is for them. If it is harder, and as such, slower, for you to deal with these shorter replies? Be sure you pop that in your rules as a warning, and make it clear when speaking to mutuals that this is the case for you and they shouldn't expect extremely quick turnaround because something is short.
While it's valid and human to not understand why something that is totally fun, easy, and rewarding for us is the opposite for others, upon it being made clear, that's a boundary you're saying needs to be respected.
Expecting replies to be fast because they're short is also something that can induce stress and be incredibly unfair.
When someone expects that their reply should be responded to expediently because it is shorter, that can be stressful to the other mun, it can feel very pressuring. To the mutuals interacting who are writing longer replies, it's unfair when it takes a week for their replies they have put a lot of effort into but someone who won't match length at all is getting numerous replies from you.
And if you like to post replies as soon as you get them done, but doing this is upsetting to the frustrating mun when it isn't theirs? Honestly, Anon, I know it sounds mean, but that's a point to have an unpleasant conversation with them about what they're doing. If they don't like it, the difference is right there for you to point out to them - these threads don't leave me feeling like I'm wasting my energy.
A lot of the time, when we are upset about perceived unfairness, the difference between what we're doing and the other muns are doing is right there for us to see. It probably is unfair to some degree, but if we want to get to the bottom of it, it's a good place to start - asking what these other muns are doing that we're not. Then, the all-important question of whether it's something we want to change, or even can, and acting according to what is going to be most rewarding and possible in the situation.
Like with delineating above what might be some reasons why this mun is responding to others differently than you, actually! Perhaps, those are things you'd like to do differently, but then again, perhaps, that would mean lessening your writing quality and enjoyment. The frustrating replier can see that the muns you reply to give back more of what they've been given, and if they feel like it's both worth it and possible, they'll do the same...or not. Either way, the awareness and tools are right there.
We all don't work out, or work out smoothly and immediately, and nothing about that is inherently mean.
Speaking of not working out, in addition to mentioning in your rules that you don't reply faster to shorter threads, it might lessen some of your frustration to work on a bit of a side project to prevent some of it from happening again in the future by going over your rules. I know much of the RPC is allergic to lengthy rules and any whiff of expectations, but clearly stating what you want and how you operate is the only way to insulate yourself and others from disappointment and frustration.
You might want to consider including some of the following:
you only write multipara - give a rough estimate of what that means to you, as mutlipara can be anything from two to twenty paragraphs, technically! Letting people know what you, specifically, tend to view as multipara, while making it clear it's not a fixed number or anything, can even help alleviate the new mutual anxiety of too much guesswork
or you only write novella - same thing, what does that look like for you? Is it 2-5k words on average, or is it 10k+? Give a rough idea to remove the guesswork, but be clear that you aren't always going to write exactly that amount or expect it
if you do have a minimum you'd like to receive, tell people - it's not demanding, it's honest. If receiving one line back after writing two paragraphs is going to upset you, say you need at least a para in return, for example
if you have a hard time writing short replies, tell people that - again, you should be a little more specific about what "short" means to you. If you find it impossible to write anything under four para, say so
should you prioritize threads based on inspiration, or even well-known partnerships, be open about that as well - it's absolutely going to make some folks pissy, but if they can't appreciate your honesty and are already annoyed before they interact with you, do you actually want to interact with them?
say that you need to know upfront if there is a consistent problem replying to you - you won't be upset or anything, but you can't address a problem you don't know exists, so, if someone is struggling with replying to you, they should feel like it's safe to talk to you about it
Obviously, these are suggestions and need to be things that are true to you! The whole point is taking the frustration you feel and doing something proactive and good with it. It isn't changing this particular situation, but making certain that you are providing new mutuals with clear information as to your boundaries, expectations, and what you'll be giving them could help prevent some similar problems. While, unfortunately, not everyone reads or respects rules, having rules that outline such things let muns know what they're getting into, allows them to make better choices of who to interact with, and is respectful to both them and yourself.
In the future, if you have another mutual like this and have made such things apparent in your rules, you can address it with a bit less awkwardness and even anxiety. It's a different feeling coming to someone with a problem when you already have a base of discussion! That doesn't mean it's a way to be forceful or shitty or anything, just that you can casually remind them at a point in this conversation that "like I said in my rules, it's not fun for me to reply to shorter things." Kind of helps to remind that, hey, you did come into this knowing that was a problem for me, you're the one being kind of lame in this situation, without literally saying that.
Any time you start to feel really frustrated and you want to settle down, consider working on something you can use that energy on. Not talking about going outside and hacking up a tree or anything ridiculous, totally talking about projects that could use a touch of frustration that you might already have sitting in your drafts or have otherwise been meaning to get to.
Take the frustration and work on a thread or meme reply in which your muse is frustrated. Take it and go work on the graphics overhaul you've been meaning to do, as annoyance can be a great way of giving us extreme focus on a task. It doesn't have to be your rules is my point! A lot of things could channel the upset into something enjoyable and productive.
And, I mean, I guess, if you really want to murder a tree...so long as it is your tree and you're prepared to accept the physical consequences of this intense amount of exertion, you could do that.
I'd still suggest replying to the muns who are more appreciative of what you're doing, though. While keeping in mind that, eventually, it really might be in your best interest to not keep writing with this person. They're not doing this maliciously or anything, but the outcome is still that you're not enjoying yourself.
Even in a hobby, you're not going to effortlessly enjoy yourself constantly, but if something is markedly frustrating you on a consistent basis, it doesn't have a long-term place in your downtime. Things do not have to be intentionally shitty for them to be negatively impacting you enough that they've got to go. You might want to work on letting this mutual go by having some more enjoyable, prioritized interactions with others. Not only will it keep you less frustrated to concentrate on positive, more fulfilling experiences, but it'll also make those threads much easier to let go of, even if there are things in them you'd have loved to have written. You'll get the opportunity to with the right people!
Again, I'm sorry if this wasn't incredibly helpful. It's not a great situation, and it isn't one that has a single possible solution, but rather, several that totally depend on how you feel about things and at what point in your frustration you're at.
For me, this would be a we've got to talk, this isn't working out point, but I don't think you sound like you're there...and that's fine! So long as your frustration isn't hurting anyone else, it's perfectly alright to need to get to your own, unique point of being done with a situation. Only you know where that's at, and I don't feel like it's a kind or viable answer to tell people they've got to drastically and immediately make choices like blocking someone over something like that. In addition to being a juvenile way of handling an interaction that isn't glowingly positive, it reeks of serious removal of agency to me. Like, no one other than the mun doing the advising is capable of adult cognition lol that's not cool! We don't do that on this blog. Same thing with not giving you some insulting, and potentially even ableist, "advice" that you should remember it's "just stupid tumblr rp" and not to be frustrated at all.
You're interacting with other human beings in this hobby as is required, other human beings do things that are frustrating, the venue is irrelevant, right? It's also every bit as Not That Deep that it's great to be invested in your hobby, period. (Unless your hobby is something like creating a fascist dictatorship lmao, then, maybe please kind of really get a different one.) So, if, in voicing your frustration with mutuals and friends, anyone has made it feel like you're being ridiculous? You're not, it's 100% valid to be annoyed when someone is telling you one thing and doing another right in front of you. I'd also be frustrated, Anon, and have been with this kind of thing!
I hope whatever you end up trying works out well for you, Anon! If nothing else, maybe you'll find a new mutual or existing one you can write even better things with. Just try to be patient, with this other mun and yourself. Resist the urge to snap at them or be hateful about it, and I'm sure the impulse has come up because these situations feel a lot like being simultaneously othered and lied to. It's just not worth it, it won't change anything, and you'll be the one who looks like a dick. You deserve better than that!

when sin tastes like sugar
sugawara koushi x reader
❥ warning(s); drinking of alcohol, cheating, implied nsfw
❥ word count; 1,263 words
synopsis: you’ve always been told that there are some things that are supposed to be forbidden. and you’ve heard that what isn’t allowed tasted like saccharine. you’ve always known this to be true to the extent of alcohol and cigarettes. but when you meet sugawara koushi, you realized you never really knew just how good forbidden things can taste like.
Tumblr media
the liquid burns your throat, its bittersweet taste lingering on your tongue. the drink is a distraction and you savor the sharp tang of citrus and bourbon. you haven't had a good drink in months. a time span far too long for your sanity. all those forced sweetness and politeness has had you wanting to curl your hands around your neck and fucking rip your flesh apart. it was destroying you, all this pretending. you danced around people's suspicions day by day and reassured them with lies you've rehearsed a thousand times. and yet, you get a grim satisfaction upon dodging their prying questions and doubtful eyes. sometimes you wanted to laugh at their faces for how utterly easy they were to fool. you should've been an actress instead of working as a nurse with countless late-night shifts that had you waking up at ungodly hours. your work yet another reason why you relished each sip and cradled the burn and flavor of the alcohol. but that wasn't all. a grimace makes its way onto your pretty face, curling your drunk features into a look of distaste. no, it wasn't the drink-- the thing was practically liquid heaven-- it was something else. or rather, someone else. the drink sloshes almost lazily as you twirl the glass with your hand in a circular motion, ice cubes making a soft noise as it clinks with your cup. your mind wanders into a hazy daydream filled with hazel-brown eyes and soft gray hair that bordered on white paired with a seemingly innocent smile. facial features better suited to an angel. your thoughts go uninterrupted even as the music blares across the packed room filled with bodies dancing to the rhythm of the music and to the melody of each other. you continue twirling your drink dreamily, soft sighs slipping past your lips. hands ghost along your back, sending shivers down your spine. your vivid dreams fall and you turn to see the very face stuck to your mind just seconds ago. "koushi." you breathe, mouth tilting into a small smile. he sits down on the stool beside you, a similar smile on his face as the two of you ignore the thrum of music across the bar. this part of the place was rarely occupied by anybody who wanted to immerse themselves into the beat, they wouldn't be able to, really. considering that the speakers were a good distance away from the spot, the music low enough for both of you to hear each other without yelling at the top of your lungs. a few linger in the farthest corner of the club, either making out or doing business you know better than to stick your nose to. your eyes scan his appearance, mouth going dry as he graces you with his presence, body fitted into a long-sleeved shirt, two buttons undone. he wore black pants hanging loosely off his hips, looking like a goddamned meal in the process. you squirm in your seat, disguising the action as you trying to pull the skintight dress further below your thighs. "it's been a while," he says, gesturing for the bored bartender for a drink. you try hard for your eyes not to linger too long at his figure, staring at the glass of forgotten alcoholic drink like it was the most fascinating thing you've seen in weeks. you let loose of the tension on your shoulders, acting nonchalantly, sipping at the drink which now tasted bland on your tongue. "We don't exactly have the most flexible schedules koushi." you remind him, your statement eliciting a small chuckle from him. you whip your head towards him and drink in the image as he receives the drink from the bartender who is happy to move away from your conversation. you take everything in before he looks up and catches you staring. he had the habit of moving the glass in a circular motion just like what you did before, the action originally from him which you've mimicked during the numerous times the two of you had gone out for a drink. your gaze moves from his lips down to the exposed skin of his neck and you stiffen slightly. barely hidden underneath the collar of his shirt was a mark of red; lipstick stains, you echo in your head. a scoff nearly escaped from your mouth. of course, how could you ever forget? this angelic man in front of you wasn't yours. nor were you his. the feeling of guilt settles into your stomach, its presence no longer bothering you. you were used to it anyways. you turn away from him as he looks up, "and yet somehow we make it work better than we do with our beloved significant others." he lets out and you can't help but snicker at his words. whereas you could barely make time for your boyfriend, you manage to sneak a meeting with sugawara koushi into your already tight schedule. whereas he could barely remember the exact date of their anniversary, he could remember every little insignificant detail about that night you spent with him, driving around town and doing nothing at all. there was just something so beautifully sinful the way you two lied to everybody, safe behind the fog of false words and even faker smiles. alone, unbothered, unburdened- whole. "god, sometimes I forget you're not mine." you sigh, a slow smirk spreading across your face. there was something in your eyes, a flicker of sadness that pierced through your mask of indifference. the emotion so fleeting he barely catches sight of it. his chest tightens, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. but if there was anyone better at lying than you, it was him. so he matches your smirk and drops his voice to a playful drawl. "that's what this is for, y/n, for forgetting everything for one night."
Tumblr media
your eyes flutter open, your vision greeted by his face. still sleeping. there’s affection in your smile, something you barely let him see, then your eyes flicker downwards, meeting toned chest pressed against yours. and still naked, apparently. you roll your eyes, having long outgrown being embarrassed after countless times of waking up to this.
and even if you lost count of exactly how many times the same face has greeted you as you woke up, you know you’ll never get tired of it. why else would you keep coming back for more even when you knew you shouldn’t be?
to you, sugawara koushi was a drug.
and you were the addict incapable of doing anything but to want-- no, need-- more of him.
and so you do. even if it was in secret. hushed meet-ups with the seconds counted and constantly running down to zero, always running out of time, fleeting gazes in public, and the rare brush of a hand around others was what you could afford without risking anything more than what you’re both already putting in line.
in his case, a close friend.
in yours, an engagement.
when his own eyes open he’s never greeted by your sleeping features. it’s always you picking up the purse you brought with you last night to his apartment, fitted in the same clothes he’d taken off of your body hours ago. he's never been given a "good morning". it was always, always a chaste kiss to his lips, a bittersweet goodbye, and one that he'll never get used to, a goodbye that still brings him a plethora of pain that mirrored your own.
but he doesn't stop you, and you don't stay.
as you turn the doorknob behind you, you let out a weary sigh,
daichi really shouldn’t have introduced who he said he was gonna make his best man.
Tumblr media

Bad Batch thoughts & predictions Ep 12
Continuing these written reactions/predictions somewhere cause itd be fun I think to see what actually ends up happening and remembering what I thought at the time so im dumping it here, youre welcome. (Feel free to discuss if you want) if you want to keep up with it im gonna be tagging these as #jay rambles about bb
- So I sort of expected it by the end of last episode but it seems like last episode was a start of an episode arc about hera's family, which, for rebel's fans I'm sure it's cool and exciting and maybe answers some questions or will actually show things discussed in rebels maybe, but as someone who hasn't seen rebels yet, I really hope this episode and the next few have more bad batch screentime, cause we were a little robbed last episode lol (but in a way I do still enjoy this stuff too, because im sure when I DO watch rebels it'll make the experience better). -- I'm not disliking this arc or anything, but up to this point we've kind of had almost mandalorian style 'one episode one adventure' sorts of episodes, and personally I really hope we get more of that (which I think we will), because while this is all new content and everything, we all have to admit clone wars had some less interesting filler arcs here and there, and I just hope bb doesn't fall the same way (across all of its seasons, im not very concerned about it so far from what we've seen of season 1) because if there is filler, I'd rather sit through a couple of the one episode stories, rather than a 3-4 episode story that takes nearly a month to get through if im disliking it, mostly for the fact that even if we got those 1 ep fillers, its more stories and more likely I'd like at least one. ---kinda rambling about this unnecessarily atm cause while again right now I think bb is fine, I just want the future to be that way too. - fffff every time I see howzer on screen I think of that fucking audio thats "here comes the boy, hello boy~" and honestly can you blame me he is so precious like ugh I swear dave you better be nice to him -- YOU CAN TELL HE FEELS SO BAD AND GUILTY LIKE IT HURTS - hey admiral can you not be MEAN to howzer when he is trying to be fucking helpful -- ;-; BRO im saying it so much already but I feel so bad for howzer like dude someone help him --- imo it feels like its sort of setting up howzer for something more important in the show kinda, at least for his character. Like we can clearly tell he doesn't really agree with the empire and I think they're going to do something with that. He's probably undercover for someone against the empire but I get the bad feeling they're gonna pull a Fives and have him go against the empire and help everyone else somehow but then he will probably end up dead because we cant have nice things. - hello cross... bet you wont be saved this episode - Ok good, some more bad batch here already. -- ALSO GONKY BEING DEFECTIVE!!!! EVEN GONKY IS DEFECTIVE LIKE BB THATS SO CUTE! - uh, im not the only one getting the leia transmission vibes from hera, right? -- ok, again I haven't seen rebels so I dont know BUT if hera has the ability to talk to bb, couldn't she have done so in rebels? Yeah she's older and im sure better at fighting and defending herself and all that, but wouldn't it still be possible for her to have gotten in some kind of rough situation in Rebels to ask for bb's help again? I super doubt bb made any appearance of any kind in Rebels, so doesn't that imply that she lost communications with them? What happens to bad batch >> - bad batch not wanting to help but because omega really wants to you can see its making hunter soften up and I appreciate it - bruh what??? Taa is dead af, like theres no way the show is gonna pull some magic and be like 'oh yep here he is' thing??? Like this has to be a lie, but even then, what even is the plan here?? Saying "oh hes recovering" well he can't be recovering forever, how does that seem like a good plan to lie about that?? People are gonna find out?? - "Great just what we need" from Wrecker about crosshair MAKES ME ANGRY LIKE??? YES?? DONT BE MAD AT HIM ITS NOT HIS FAULT??? SAVE YOUR FUCKING BOY??? -- oooo then the rest of bb doesn't comment about it literally gsjrkgbdkfbg why do they not care about him???? Like it seems they legitimately dont care about crosshair, even though theyve been together for so long like even before the show came out they
had history together and were all really close. I know people argue "oh well its just difficult to save him and its unrealistic for them right now" but so what? Even if they aren't trying to save him they should at least CARE about him. --- Which is also like the thing with echo and fives!!!! Like Echo didn't seem to care much at all when Rex mentioned fives even a little! Or even about seeing Rex that much!! Dave I'm gonna need some answers my guy, cause you humanized these characters but then you dont make them act that way so like whats up. - Lucky hunters abilities came in handy - Back to crosshair for a second im predicting they 100% arent saving him this season. There was a poster released part way through the season and he's not even on it... makes me so sad. - "I'd do the same for you." ;-; that didnt need to get that deep - CROSSHAIR BETTER NOT START SHIT WITH HOWZER - Howzer helping Hera's parents or at least implying that is good but that also means im right so far and therefore worried >> -- HES GOING TO GET FUCKING CAUGHT I BET TALKING TO THEM LIKE THIS AT SOME POINT AND HOW MUCH DO YOU WANNA BET ITS GONNA BE CROSSHAIR THAT CATCHES HIM --- Cham stfu its literally so obvious that howzer is trying to be genuine, also if he's kind of undercover for him like what the fuck do you expect howzer to do if he has to play along with the empire to keep his cover?? "Won't make that mistake again" Fuck off like honestly. ---- #stopbeingmeantohowzer2021 - "A little help" and the gentle "Hey" ahh love it - I'm really enjoying this whole them fighting in the ships sequence - "Stay here and guard the capitol" SCARES ME -- Please for the love of god bad batch don't get howzer killed --- or plot B Bad batch maybe run into howzer but save him and take him with you at least temporarily ---- oh god.... bb is helping heras parents escape and that means howzers gonna get in trouble.../probably replaced by crosshair - Crosshair is smart but thats also badddd - The scene of howzer and crosshair looking at each other is killing meeeeeeeee - Ohhh is howzer gonna stop them before they go out the door? -- YES HE IS SEE WHAT A GOOD BOY HE IS - (please fucking listen to him I beg) - Aw dude I just had a thought that breaks my heart... howzer cares about his squad and "trying to get through to them" but what if his squad is clones as well and the chips... that hurts me so badly... -- Like we all know howzer is a sweet boy by now but ughhh like the thought that he doesnt want to leave them even though they are doing whats wrong shows just how much he cares and I really hope he doesn't get into trouble because of what he's saying to them, but you know he totally would do it because he seems to care about them so much and :( bad batch more like sad batch --- This is the kind of compassion I wanted from bb for crosshair hunter kind of looks back at howzer as they leave him and I doubt itll mean anything but I really hope that maybe seeing how much howzer cares will make hunter care a little too... - *sigh* howzer is getting left behind by them which we know why but yeah... now he's definitely going to be in trouble... I just hope they don't hurt him... - OH GOD HOWZER BABY DONT -- He's making a speech and I know he's trying to sway them but you know damn well this is gonna go so badly for him because of the chips and crosshair is watching so you know howzer is gonna get fucked here and I know what hes trying for but I really wish he didnt just do that because now its blatantly obvious he's gonna be against them ;-; - Wow ok im kinda shocked people are siding with him (I guess cause theyre not all clones right) but I feel so bad for themmmmm - Crosshair missed multiple shots? Uh what? I didnt think that was possible lol - bb please come back for howzer and the others at some point.... -- I guess maybe if hera's parents are going to organize rebels against the empire maybe they will help them but I somewhat doubt it... - Ok I know that crosshair requesting to hunt them was supposed to be this big moment and all but I
can't help but feel like its a little underwhelming (but dont get me wrong still cool vibes) because he's kind of already been doing that anyway?? Or has tried to several times?? So I don't get why its a big deal, however, I do have a possible prediction: We know that bb got their chips removed, (crosshair doesn't, I know that) and so that eliminates the idea that they will get caught and actually go bad like crosshair, but it does leave a possibility where maybe they get captured and then *pretend* to be bad? And that could lead to a better possibility of helping crosshair (they wont) or maybe howzer and the other rebels or something? Cause I also feel like its significant that they brought up how the war will eventually come to them and bb will be a part of it no matter what eventually, and it makes obvious sense theyd be on the rebels side of it, so maybe something like that goes on, idk.

hi there! loving your "Buck is Eddie's love interest" gif series with the tropes. Wondering if you might also have an "Eddie as Buck's love interest" set planned? I think you have a great eye for finding and exemplifying the tropes at work in the narrative. thanks!
Thank you so much! I do have something in the works atm, though I still need to go back through Season 1 to get a better grasp on Buck and Abby moments that would best illustrate the points I hope to make. Buck is a bit of a harder one to map for the main reason that his arc isn’t nearly as clearly mapped out and resolved as Eddie’s (arguably) is. It doesn’t help that we don’t have a Buck Begins or much of anything on his past. But I think there’s definitely enough scenes and moments to work with. I just have to find the time to put it together. :)
Some thoughts under the cut because I love these boys and may as well ramble a bit at the opportunity?
-
I think the most obvious thing pointing to Eddie being Buck’s love interest is the way their arcs complement each other. In the series, one of Buck’s most well established fears is his fear of abandonment. It's hinted at from the first episode but especially driven home in season 3 (in 3x16, for example). And it’s really remarkable considering that Eddie was introduced as a character who is known for abandoning those who needed him. Eddie’s entire life and marriage collapsed because he kept running away, and he’s shown as someone who is deeply aware of the damage he did, and trying to make up for his past and to move on and grow as a person. And even at the first level, these two arcs match perfectly, as for Eddie to develop and mature, he has to learn to demonstrate  courage and commitment to those important to him. And in turn, for Buck to grow, he has to learn to recognise his own value and worth to others, and he needs to see that others are willing to stand beside him when things get tough.
It’s what it made it so significant when the show chose for Eddie to be the one to drag Buck out of his post-injury slump. Because at this point Buck is at his most vulnerable, and it is the moment that would justify any other characters drifting apart. But Eddie is shown to consciously make that effort. A character who used to run away the moment things got too hard was the one who went and showed Buck that he still stood beside him, that Buck still had a friend in Eddie (and Christopher), and that he wasn’t being left behind. And it’s such a beautiful progression for both of their arcs.
-
Another more obvious sign of course is the fact that Buck thinks he has nothing in his life aside from his job. It’s in part what drives his character angst for the entirety of season 3, all the while he is slotted into every possible scene with Eddie to show the viewer that he’s actually already part of Eddie’s family whether he believes it or not. And again, this so perfectly echoes Eddie’s own search for a co-parent and his desire to complete his family again. From the start of season 2, it’s Eddie’s aunt who remarks to Buck how Eddie struggles being alone, and in that same episode, Buck shows himself as the answer to that loneliness.
For the two seasons, the writers have only built up this family unit more and more. It’s why so many fans found it ridiculous that Buck didn’t say yes when Eddie invited him to Christopher’s sleepover. Buck has more than his job, he isn’t alone, he has Eddie and Christopher. The show has set it all up perfectly, and all that’s left is for Buck to realise that fact for himself.
-
911 has a habit of using failed love interests to reflect the fears and flaws of the male heroes. The thing that strikes me about Shannon and Eddie, and the way that relationship developed and resolved, was that Eddie wasn’t ever going to escape the mistakes he made as Eddie 1.0. With Shannon, he would always have been a husband who ran away from his struggling wife and young child when they needed them most. And in turn, Shannon also ran away, and wallowed in guilt for years. The trust they had between them was so mangled and broken, they may never have been able to truly move on, with the shadow of their past decisions hanging over them. And at the end of it all, Eddie was left feeling inadequate, not good enough, suffering still from the consequences of Eddie 1.0
Buck and Abby, in turn, echoes this to a certain extent that was really only established/acknowledged in 3x18. With Abby, Buck entered into the relationship as Buck 1.0. And no matter how happy they are, how much Buck grows, he will always be haunted by the man he used to be. And this is in turn what Abby hints at and reflects when she properly broke things off with Buck in the s3 finale. With Buck, Abby will always be afraid of falling back into the person she used to be, the person she was not proud of being. And by extension, Buck carried that same stigma with him, the fear and danger of falling back into Buck 1.0, or worse, of not fully maturing into his properly-realised self, because of how eager he is to not fall back and do the wrong thing again. Abby knew him first as who he used to be, and unless they leave each other behind, that history can always come back to haunt them again.
And Eddie, being introduced when he was, only ever knew Buck 2.0 - someone who was devoted, loving, endlessly caring for others. And in turn, Buck has only ever known Eddie 2.0 - a responsible and loving father who fought for the people he loved no matter what. It’s telling, in a sense, that they put Eddie’s mistakes in his past, instead of letting it unfold in real time. He could just as easily have been a character who abandoned his wife and child in El Paso and moved to LA to ‘pay the bills’. But he isn’t Eddie 1.0, he’s Eddie 2.0. Buck and Eddie are set up to meet each other right at the cusp of each other’s fresh starts.
And that’s what the lawsuit conflict really drives home in terms of development, is that it’s the first time Eddie and Buck truly glimpsed each others flaws, and the echoes of their 1.0 selves, in a way that hurt each other. Eddie saw a Buck who acted (out of pain, but still) selfishly without regard for how his actions affected and hurt others. And in turn, Buck saw Eddie who turned to avoidance to an extent that it hurt another (and toward violence, but that’s a whole other thing to unpack).
Then, they reconciled. They saw those ugly parts of each other, they saw those flaws, those imperfections, and they told each other - hey, I forgive you. I care about you. I believe in you.
-
And all of these things... that’s where this pairing comes from. They have grown as people, and you see them both toward the end of that growth, seeing how far they’ve both come. You have Buck who is desperate for family, for connection, for someone to love. And in turn, Eddie is someone who is desperate to be loved, to have someone see him as who he is beyond the mistakes he’s made, and to be enough.
And, well, they complete each other.

Sundance 2021: Day 1 & 2
Tumblr media
Films: 5
Best Film of the Day(s): Summer of Soul
Coda: It is mostly a truism that the festival tends to start things off on Thursday night with a genial offering, to whet the appetite, as it were, for the vastly more far-reaching, and oft-madcap rest of the program. Sian Heder’s sweetly realized light drama, about Ruby (Emilia Jones), a high school senior in Gloucester, MA, who works in the early morning non-school hours on her father’s fishing boat, and full-time as the only member of her family, including mom (Marlee Matlin), father (Troy Katsur), and brother (Daniel Durant) who isn’t deaf. Balancing out her workload, she joins the choir, in order to be able to spend time with her crush, Miles (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), and turns out to have significant enough talent that her flinty music teacher (Eugenio Derbez), encourages her to apply to the prestigious music college in Boston of which he is an alum. Formulaic, to be certain, but moving nonetheless, with fine performances from the family  —  in keeping with the film’s own set-up, all but Jones actually deaf  —  and a strong sense of their relationships, especially between Ruby and her father. Heder’s screenplay also plays out the difficult dynamic between Ruby, and the rest of the hearing world, as the lone interpreter and defender of her family. As she puts it, they can’t hear themselves being laughed at, but she has no choice. It’s certainly glossy, but it’s also heartfelt, as in one pivotal scene, as Ruby performs a moving duet with Miles for the choir’s big show, Heder unexpectedly douses the sound for a few long moments, giving us a moving sense of what her parents get to experience during their daughter’s moment of artistic triumph.
Censor: As the title suggests, Prano Bailey-Bond’s discreet horror flick is about the idea of repression  —  what we want to cut away from the ugliness of the human experience. Set during the Thatcherite ‘80s, during an era where “video nasties” had become the topic du jour of cultural critics and political wankers, suggesting the sudden proliferation of demented, ultra-violent straight-to-video releases in the UK was somehow leading the country into sadistic nihilism, as opposed to their representing the result of Thatcher’s choking brand of right-wing oppression. Enid (Niamh Algar), a censor working for the government to render such films as Asunder, and Violent Coda properly palatable to the squirming masses, by excising excessive eye-gougings, brutal rapes, and disembowelments just enough to pass the board. She’s already living with her own past demons, a younger sister who disappeared in the woods under her watch years before, leaving her family shattered. Bailey-Bond shoots the film until the very end, as if underground, even while literally outside. Enid makes her way through the tube stations, and pedestrian tunnels, to her windowless office, and back again, with overhanging branches, overpasses, and canopies keeping her away from contact with the outside world. Creepy  —  but notably restrained in its own depictions of violence, save for the grainy, 4:3 imagery Enid has to make her way through at her job  —  Bailey-Bond’s film works well as a half-remembered bad dream from a similar tableau as Peter Strickland, but doesn’t quite have to chops, visually or in its surreal storytelling, to push it past those boundaries. It’s gripping enough, but doesn’t stick with you terribly long.
Summer of Soul (...Or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised): In 1969, during the Summer of Love, when white hippies and counter-culturalists were grooving to Woodstock, and NASA had successfully landed whitey on the moon, an entirely different sort of cultural fusion was taking place in Mt. Morris Park in Harlem. A performer and concert promoter named Tony Lawerence conceived of the event, a big outdoor stage where for six consecutive weekends, people could flock to the free shows that featured Jazz, Afro-beat, blues, R ‘n B, gospel, Motown, and funk. More than 300,000 attended the concerts in total to watch legendary performers including B.B. King, Mahalia Jackson, Max Roach, Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Hugh Masekela, a 19-year-old Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, and, in the sort of fierce performance that defined her live presence, Nina Simone, but even though the shows were meticulously filmed, the footage had never found an outlet, until now. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s directorial debut doesn’t just present the artists’ performances (though it certainly could have), but adds insight from some of the surviving artists, and some of those in the crowd who witnessed them. He also works to put the shows into the cultural context of the time, when a rare mixture of political outrage, multicultural strength, and a dawning of the Black Pride movement created a fulcrum for Harlem, and Black people all over the world. Hippies got the press, and much of the mainstream media coverage, but Thompson makes a strong case as to how the same repressive forces that lead to the explosion of the counterculture movement amongst white college students and young people, also affected the rise of rebellion and tide-shifting in communities of color. Watching Jackson and Staples perform a riveting version of MLK’s favorite gospel song, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” in the wake of the black leader’s assassination, or Simone rip into “Backlash Blues” is to witness the shift of cultural winds, as they whipped across a steamy, jam-packed park in Upper Manhattan.
John and the Hole: The title is, on first blush, terrible, but as with several things in this confidently enigmatic coming-of-a-kind-of-age tale from Pascual Sisto, there’s more to it than that. What initially sounds dumpy becomes somewhat cannily constructed: It’s meant to evoke a kind of modern myth vibe, along the lines of “Jack and the Beanstalk.” As it turns out, the film’s refusal to explain itself becomes a significant strength. John (Charlie Shotwell), is a 13-year-old kid from a wealthy family outside of Boston. Skinny and stammering, he’s also difficult to read, either by his parents (Jennifer Ehle and Michael C. Hall), or his older sister (Taissa Farmiga). Which is why, when John’s family wake up one morning at the bottom of a deep, cement shaft  —  part of a bunker built in the woods near their house  —  after having been drugged, and dragged there by John, their reactions run from mildly surprised to mildly upset. John leaves them down there, occasionally stopping by the edge to drop down food, water, and jackets, while he lives on at the main house, zipping around town in the family’s Volvo SUV, and taking out cash when needed from his dad’s ATM card. At first, he finds it liberating  —  eating a mound of chicken nuggets, endless pizzas, and leaving the mess littered around the house, as he attempts to stave off suspicions  —  but, eventually, he gets lonely, and realizes he prefers their company to being on his own. There’s maliciousness implied in his actions  —  a frequent shot looking up at John from inside the pit keeps re-establishing the peculiar power dynamic in the family  —  but nothing happens, it appears, that can’t be taken back. Sisto shoots the film sumptuously, drawing out the beauty of their immaculate house in contrast to the mess it slowly becomes under John’s ambivalence (an idea neatly echoed with the rest of the family down in the bunker, who quickly become filthier and filthier until the mud and grime seems etched into their pores). What conclusions it may draw are difficult to ascertain, in keeping with the nature of the project, but there is the definite sense that the nuclear family, as rigid as the formation may seem, remains a useful tool for healthy emotional growth after all.
In the Earth: Shot in the summer of 2020, in response to the pandemic (director Ben Wheatley explained pre-screening that he wanted a film that “reflected the politics of the times”), the film is loaded with imagery of madness and obsession. Or, you know, what happens to the human mind when it’s forced to stay in place for months at a go. Set in the near future, when a different and even more deadly virus has devastated the planet, the story concerns a scientist named Martin (Joel Fry), who needs to head deep into a boreal forest to find a research lab headed by a former flame (Hayley Squires). He is aided by a guide, a forest ranger named Alma (Ellora Torchia), who takes him on the supposed two-day trek. En route, however, they run into trouble in the form of Zach (Reece Shearsmith), a crazy devotee of the forest gods, and what he believes are their ritualistic demands. Breaking free from him, they arrive at the research lab, only to find similar insanity. Wheatley’s film feels rushed in places, and is violently incoherent in others, but its sense of immediacy is acute. With its characters having plunged into bizarre cryptic conspiracy theories, having plunged deep into the Boreal heart of darkness, and the sense that reality has been splintered, it ends up being a pretty fair summation of current life and times. It might not hold up under much scrutiny years from now, but it could hardly be more of the moment in the meantime.
Sundance goes mostly virtual for this year’s edition, sparing filmgoers the altitude, long waits, standing lines, and panicked eating binges  —  but also, these things and more that make the festival so damn endearing. In any event, Sundance via living room is still a hell of a lot better than no Sundance. A daily report.

Hiiii! What are you thoughts about RNM finale! How do you feel about it? I'm glad Alex was happy and I kind of understand why Micha walked out in the middle of the song even though I know some people didn't like it... Anyways! Hope you have a great day! 😁
Hi nonnie!
Am I having a great day, running on roughly 2 hours of sleep and sheer force of will? Debatable. :P
I’ve been listening to Tyler’s song all day tho, that has definitely improved my mood significantly. I’ll never be over the beauty that is this Malex song. WE GOT A MALEX SONG, Y’ALL!!!! And Tyler’s voice... yeah, the absolute best thing ever. I’m at peace just listening to him. 🥰
WOULD YOU COME HOME is without a doubt the best thing of this episode, the best thing of the season tbh. With that being said, I wrote down some more things.
Putting this incoherent mess behind a cut tho (I’m LJ years old, it’s a cut, not a Read More :P), fingers cross Tumblr doesn’t botch the damn thing.
Hmmmm, I’ll admit that last night (I watched live at 3am, which probably was NOT the best idea, but then I’m an adult, what else am I supposed to do other than make TERRIBLE LIFE CHOICES...), I really hated it.
Nothing made sense, too many questions were left unanswered, Malex were robbed of saying “I love you” to each other first, they were also robbed of an opportunity to talk (dear god, when will they finally TALK, it’s literally all I want), Michael was made to leave IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOVE LETTER ALEX WAS SINGING TO HIM IN PUBLIC (omfg, I’m still so fucking PISSED about that, I’m FUMING) by the writers just to keep the ~drama going, Malex were robbed of a first public kiss, in one moment at the bar it looks like Michael took the handkerchief off, but there’s no way of telling whether they simply forgot to put it on him, or if it was deliberate and he actually took it off and we were robbed of that very significant moment.
Also ngl, Jesse’s death? Underwhelming. I mean, I’m glad he’s finally gone, but his whole storyline this season was underwhelming and so was his death. Oh well, underwhelming is my rating of S2 overall, guess it makes sense for this super villain to go out with a meh instead of a bang.
Blah, I'm still not super happy about the finale, and I especially wanted Michael to hear the WHOLE song, mainly the final two lines
You were the best of me You are the best of me
but since we can’t have nice things it’s not surprising that I’m not a huge fan. At least it wasn’t as devastating as 1x13, or as gross and triggering in 2x06, small mercies, I guess :P
Ngl, the Forlex kiss didn’t spark joy for me personally. I’m a mono shipper, and just like I hated seeing Michael kiss someone else, I hated seeing Alex do the same. But I understand why he did it. Michael left halfway through the song, and Alex was so relieved and proud of himself that he sang it, and Forrest was right there (wearing his Deep Sky ring 👀).
And hey, Alex asked and Forrest gave enthusiastic consent, I appreciate that very much!
I also really liked that Alex and Michael got to destroy the damn shed. I absolutely ADORE that Gregory was there when Alex sang,  alive and looking like the proudest big brother ever (like you don’t even know HOW MUCH I love him!!! ). Tanner’s such an amazing addition to the cast and I hope we’ll get to see him more often next season!
I’m glad that neither Alex or Michael were burdened with Jesse’s death, I hate that Gregory is carrying that burden now, but he seems to be better equipped for it, and I think he’ll be okay living with it.
Also a glimmer of hope for my baby Flint and a possible redemption arc? I like it (mainly bc I adore Kiowa, I just want him back).
The Echo breakup was long overdue, IDK, I haven’t cared that much about them as a couple for a long time, they’ve been lying to each other throughout most of the season, insofar it makes perfect sense that they go their separate ways now.
Rrrrosaaaaaa!!! My girl, I’m so damn PROUD of her!!!! She’s doing absolutely amazing, and I hope they’ll bring Iris back for her in S3 as a real friend. She deserves to spend time with people other than the “alien circle” at large.
M/M breakup... let’s just say I’m glad that particular nightmare is finally OVER. Time for Michael to work on himself. He didn’t get much opportunity to do that all season.
I’m a bit worried that due to the larger time jump between S2 and 3 we’ll either not get to see much of his development, or - even worse - he hasn’t worked on himself when we meet him again. That’s why I really rather hate S2 for him as a character. Oh well, that’s something to worry about in a year, I guess.
KYLE. I was happy about the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Kylex moment, but overall S2′s done him dirty. Constantly sidelined, stuck in a relationship I still don’t care about even a little bit. And now Liz even played “god” and saved Steph (which in itself is a good thing, but Liz has been doing this all season, and no one’s stopped her, and I find that worrisome.) I guess with Steph being saved she’s also going to be in S3? Meh, I couldn’t care less, but also something to worry about next year.
Isobel didn’t get to do all that much this episode, but I love her, she’s had an amazing journey this season, and I feel she’s in a really good place right now. GOOD FOR HER!
SANDERS! Not in this episode, but damn, I love him, and I’m SO glad that MICHAEL’S DAD HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO US THIS SEASON!
Jenna & Charlie AAAAAAHHHHHHHH, I’m so happy for them! And I’m excited to hopefully see both of them again next season! They are amazing, and as a duo a force to be reckoned with! Excited for Riley’s show Hightown to be renewed, still hope she’ll find time to travel to Santa Fe to be in several episodes of RNM.
Max... Ngl, I’m not a fan of the character. Never have been. And while Max 2.0 was nicer than Max 1.0, I never really warmed up to him. Let’s see how things with “Mr. Jones” and Max will go next season.
Maria... Let’s see how things with her go next season. Maybe she’ll finally be allowed to have a storyline that doesn’t revolve around other people.
Circling back to Alex. I love him, I love him the most. He’s on par with my other favorite character of all time (Derek Hale, in case that wasn’t clear). He’s so important to me, and Tyler did the most exquisite job playing him. S2′s been a difficult season for him and I hated that for him.
The writers held him back at almost every turn, he wasn’t allowed to move on, instead Michael got to “dump” Alex every second episode. Man, it got old real fast. But Alex’s resilience finally hammered it home to Michael, that Alex is not leaving again. He’s right there, and he’ll even show up when Michael calls him. New experience for him, I’m sure.
IDK, this whole season was such a mess, so many things that weren’t resolved in the end, the lack of a main plot kept bothering me, and I hated that some of my favorite S1 friendships were completely sidelined.
I hate that an entire season was wasted on Malex being apart, especially wasted for Michael who had a lot of shit on his plate I hoped he’d get a chance at working through (at least in part) in S2, but that didn’t happen. He had some lightbulb moments, but overall he’s still pretty much in the same spot he was at the beginning of the season.
And while I agree that he’s not ready to be with Alex atm, I hate that he did not communicate that to Alex properly, and instead left halfway through Alex’s song.
IDK, I just feel like pretty much every fanfic writer in our fandom would’ve done a better job at writing them this season, they would’ve been allowed to move forward separately, but still towards a common goal.
I know, they are endgame, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m TIRED of them not talking. And especially after Alex’s performance.
Either way, I don’t think any of this makes much sense, coherent thoughts, I don’t have them atm. I’ll need more time to think things through, and maybe my overall negative opinion of this season won’t be quite so negative anymore. Who knows.
I’ve always wondered whether I’d feel like finally watching S2 once I know how it ends, and right now I can answer that question with a firm NO. Canon exhausts me. I’m looking forward to fandom getting time to take a deep breath and process this season.
I’m excited that we get to take care of the characters for the next year. It’s time for some good development, for tons of fics where Malex actually talk to each other, where Gregory is an awesome brother, Sanders adopts Michael and a million other things.
If there’s one thing I’m grateful for is, that the finale didn’t ruin Malex entirely. I’d been really worried about that.
THEY ARE OURS AGAIN, FOLKS! \0/

Pearls of Wisdoms for Pakis
Tumblr media
Beloved Janta of Pakistan,
I would also like to share a secret with you, which you might never apprehend from a person from any other country, especially from an Indian. We LOVE YOU, We are obsessed with you. We enjoy infatuation comparable to that of a 14-year boy who has one on a girl living in his neighborhood, like that teenager whose heart warms up with the girl's sight. Still, he tends to tease her or plays whimsical pranks on her. It is his way of showing his affection.
Accept it, my fellow former Countrymen, you guys are in deep love with us as well. I have felt it first-hand. You folks love watching our Movies and fantasy our starlets. Sing Bollywood songs while proposing to your love. Ache to enjoy Mumbai and Delhi's nightlife. Some of you would even love to reside permanently here for a better future. There is also constant discrimination in every viewpoint; it may be Cricket or politics; in all honesty, you think of our day and night.
Keeping this indefinable affection for each other aside for a while, there is a bitter revelation that you people will have to accept and even feed it in the brains of the future generations to come. I am sure that maximum people over your side of the border should by now have conceded that India will never ever surrender Kashmir in your Lap. It won't be possible in at least another century ahead.
You see, in the manner where India's GDP had expanded from 10 Thousand Crores in the 1950s to more than 10 Lacs Crores in 2019, our sentiment of Nationalism has additionally, grown in a comparable pattern. There was a phenomenal hike in this feeling after India's general elections 2014 onwards; the reason for such an increase is unknown to me. So, the moral is, with such a vast Nationalism level in the hearts of the Aam Janta here, I don't think so parting away an inch of land to anyone would be possible.
Won't it look dishonorable for us in the front of the entire world if we lose the land to you guys who are quite behind then us in all the aspects? You will have to accept that technically both our countries are 73 years old this year. Over this side of the border, we have gradually upgraded in all aspects a Nation has to grow. I could virtually challenge you in where you guys can prove to be better in any improvement zone. This is the land wherein the year 1981 Indian Actor Amitabh enacted on the evergreen song "Dekha Ek Khawab " and his Dame Rekha in the movie Silsila hence parting away with Kashmir is painful to us as it will not only hurt our Ego and furthermore offer grief to Amitji.
Forget the BJP led NDA, Even the Congress-led UPA cannot think of such a gormless deal. The primary reason is that they want to come into power next term too to provide Public service. Now you people only tell which government will be such dimwits to kick their own rear and be signed on the history textbook of 10-year-old kids as the People who gave away Kashmir.
Realize this, Pakistani Government, Your Army and also ISI can't withhold the idea of getting the region of Kashmir in your Nation's Map, even they know that your national flag will never rise in Capital of Srinagar but since it was an Inaugural Political Agenda when your Country was created in where the principal objective of this agenda was to collect vote from you guys and funds from other countries in the name of Kashmir. It is their lollypop for you fellows that their respective parties if came in power, an ideal environment will be created where; a newly wedded couple from Lahore can drive to Srinagar for their honeymoon without a stamp on their Passport and enjoy a bite of Kashmiri Apple laying in the front deck of a Shikara in Dal Sarovar. It's All Fake, acknowledge it, and move on.
So to my Indian friends,
There was a massive inspiration for me to compose this article. It was shocking that it came from the other side of the border. In the great Indian lockdown of 2020, I who was ideally workless like many of us all, I went through many videos of this Pakistani Newsreader and Political Debate Show Host Dr. Fiza Akbar Khan on YouTube. By her venomous language, the passion for thrashing India and people over here and that high pitched voice made me think of another Indian Debate Show Host.  I am convinced that they are unquestionably biologically related to each other. So I should not have a problem with her blabbering rubbish towards my Country as her Bhaiya here likewise.
But I have to admit that her language did hurt me because, unlike her Bhaiya over there who trashes Pakistan in the English language, she uses Urdu, which sounds quite similar to the Hindi language to illuminate unpleasant garbage, the reason is entirely psychological for me being hurt. For example, If somebody calls you a Motherfucker, you might not be offended in the same manner if you are called Madar***d (Pardon my Language).
This Pakistani Anchor goes on and on that How Poor, Uneducated, Physically and Mentally Weak, Shelterless, we Indians live in this Country where our economy is going into the drain. We are foolish people to elect Shri Modi as PM of our Country and that too twice. There is a vast level of discrimination on minorities over here. The world's biggest Democracy is over. In the distant future, if Kashmir is not given to them its freedom, then Islamabad will be the next capital of Pakistan and India.
Can you believe this, she has mentioned all this on her show and that too in a language which can easily pierce in our heart. Let's not get also angered about this and start calling her names. She is just doing her job. She is giving favored content to people of over there what her Bhaiya is doing over there.
As pragmatic as I can get about whatever she says on her show about us, I just can't accept it, I am too egoistic as an Indian to even reply or curse on her Video on YouTube comment section. Hence, I planned to dedicate this entire blog to Dr. Fiza Khan, whom I seriously don't mean to offend as Women, her Nation, and especially not her Religion and would like to give her some advice.
Avoid Echoing about Nukes: A round of applause towards Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan for building Nuclear Weapons, a program from a stolen uranium centrifuge design and a network of grey-market suppliers. But stop jabbering in your show that Pakis can nuke India in case a War erupts between us. Even If Jinnah Sahab from Heaven above commands your Arm Force to it, they will effortlessly deny his orders and don't stress. We likewise won't squander our atomic weapon on you. These weapons are like those expensive Portraits which you can proudly hang in your Living Room, but can't take it out on a date. Stop even using the word Nuke in your show.
Comparison between the PMs: PM Imran Sahab seems to be a jolly good fellow who also appears to try to administrate better than any other PMs or Military leaders of your Country. Let me tell you bluntly that there is no comparison with his Counterpart over here; in fact, he even doesn't stand anywhere nearby India's previous Prime Minister.
Paki's Diplomatic Policies Debacle: This is a typical miscue. You and many colleagues of you have repeatedly misguided your Citizens that Pakistan can easily use the benefit of its diplomatic relationship with a few First World Country and pressurize India on Kashmir Issue. Well, Honey, This is an open challenge to your PM, along with Mr. Qureshi Sahab go to any so-called super Power for assistance or call end numbers of meeting in OIC ( Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ). Nobody will be ready to intervene in the Valley issue for one of the main reason, Why would any country create enmity with the Country will more than 100 Million Population which is a significant business open doors for their corporates.
Playing Second Fiddle: I initially watched your Debate show of earlier years. You always mentioned the US as your elder brother and will still stand next to you along with Saudi Arabia. These were the two countries which you saw as your personal ATM. Lately, these ATM machines stopped removing Cash and Kinds, which they earlier showered on your Country, so you bashed them and accused both these Super Power for adultery. These started leaning towards us. Then you went to China and become a Virtual Puppet who dances on their tunes. Now the problem arises that the entire world started forming against your elder brother and accused them as the creator of the Pandemic of 2020. So you began a rigid assembly against them as well, and now your nation is in an arrangement for another development with Malaysia and Turkey. Understand this dear Fiza ben that in distant future you will have to abuse these two countries also while your government will go and beg to some other countries, maybe North Korea.
Last but not least, which I have already mentioned why Kashmir will never be part of Pakistan earlier in the blog. Read repeatedly till the concept is glued by heart, and if possible, explain it to your people there.
Defense products will be purchased in the name of Kashmir. For Fiscal Year 20-21 Defense expenditure of Pakistan is 1,289 Billion Dollars. India's expenses on the same would be around 66 Billion Dollars. Can you believe these Figures? This Moolah could otherwise be used in Infrastructure and improving the lifestyle of citizens of the respective Country. Civilians and Soldiers' blood will be shed on the name of Kashmir. Approximately 120000 deaths have been registered since 1989, which also includes unsympathetic deaths of militants and terrorists. Television Media will go on with Live debates inviting aficionados and enthusiasts to increase their TRP on the name of Kashmir. Newspapers and magazines will publish viperous articles vocalizing each other's blame for being troublemakers on Kashmir's name. Many commercial Movies and Web Series will also be produced on Kashmir's name. Still, by endeavoring all means of Peace or War, this dream of some of yours will never be fulfilled.
