There's a huge backlash against minimalism, but there's also a steady stream of people (some of the same people, even) extolling early online humor like Ceiling Cat. What is that if not internet minimalism?

#it's not a BAD thing but it's a reliable way of dating people #i mean dating as in. like carbon dating. ah you have been exposed to the internet for THIS long.#or you were too old for that period and have not been exposed since #he has been around for a number of years- enough to indicate a period of the internet and mark it #here's the thing- if we categorize it as a period or an era. marking it as a period would make sense #but at the same time we could seamlessly mark it as a whole era and divide it #i would propose- the nigahiga era- if called one- can be divided into the 'how to be' period. very early maybe around 2005-2007/8 #then the various skits and expansion. take skitzo for example! it was a new take with more characters and exploring a more developing humor #well i wasn't really around for the last period- the b.e.s.t team and his various short movies! still enjoyable! i got to watch A.S.S.#which was nice and enjoyable- 30 minutes was a very long time for a youtube video at the time of its release #anyway some of the periods blend in with each other but i'd say it's a good way of marking the internet #it's a good indication of marking the early internet for me. that's all #yeah i watched a bunch of nigahiga the other day you can probably tell #yeah that might have been because ninja glare was stuck in my head

just been replaying FF7 and thinking how disappointed I was that it didn't just get a straight remake, haven't played the remake simply because it's a bait and switch AU

but anyway idk why but this particular boss battle amused me so much, when I was younger I swear this game wasn't so funny but in spite of the dark tone it takes a lot of the time FF7 is probably the funniest 3D entry, here's our techno-soldier, our R&D guys asked themselves, what would happen if you crossed the Terminator with a toilet?

(the 90s were very weird)

maybe I'll take more screenshots later but the only way I could really enjoy this game was with Yuffie and Cid as Cloud's backup dancers, holy crap they just turn it into a completely different game. FF7 has this reputation as being very serious and emo but it really wasn't, at all lmao. I wish more games were like that, where EVERY scene changes depending on who's in the party. I had such a blast, I kind of kick myself for hating this game for so long, I just didn't know how to play it lmao

#anyway modern games take themselves too seriously or rely too much on Internet meme humor #early FF games? that was 100% home grown free range weirdness and I'm sad it seems to no longer be part of the series #I'm so sad FF (and 7 in particular) has this reputation for being so moody and serious but it wasn't until about 13 I'd say #(and even then 13 can be very funny and the sequel dips into the old FF weirdness)#even the supposed angst-fest of 10 is actually very funny #part of that perception in particular is people taking the voice acting way too seriously lmao #in spite of its flaws. and in spite of the fact that I don't really like it. 15 came close to this kind of thing #I just wish that it hadn't been so rushed and unfinished in spite of having such a long development cycle
