Y'all help I'm trying to find this tumblr post about lady jessica's characterization and her relationship with paul. It was in paragraph format and the first sentence is the typical tumblr picture-being-in-x's-shoes while the rest of it is in the second person. It talks about how/why she pushed paul into the prophecy (something about it ending up with him killing a ton of ppl while she did it so that he would stay alive but it really messed him up, etc., etc.) and idk if it's book accurate (haven't read them yet, on the tbr) but it popped up on my Pinterest feed a few days back and I didn't save it but I just rewatched the first dune to prep for watching the second later this week and the post popped into my head (I really liked the wording) and I went to show it to someone (it was supporting a thematic point I wanted to make I think I can't know for sure) and I've been looking for like an hour now pls help.

Dune Universe Aesthetics - Chapterhouse
“And always the ultimate unspoken commandment is 'Thou shall not question!' But we question. We break that commandment as a matter of course. The work to which we have set ourselves is the liberating of the imagination, the harnessing of imagination to humankind's deepest sense of creativity.”

Honestly, I don't get this trend I'm seeing online of people watching the new Dune movies, realizing how much Star Wars was influenced by it, and going "Well, Star Wars is ruined for me."
As if Dune having an influence on Star Wars was some big secret; as if George Lucas's original reason for making Star Wars wasn't just because he couldn't make a Flash Gordon movie and went "I'll just do my own space hero thing" and even researched lots of old adventure and pulp stories for inspiration.
I get that "X is a ripoff of Y" is a common tactic deployed by people at works they don't like--or specifically, deployed by people at works that they feel didn't do the idea nearly as cool--but you have to accept at some point that everything is inspired by other things. Even that show you feel was the inspiration for a later (maybe, in your head, inferior) work is really influenced by another work that you don't even know about yet.
Also, people are saying "Star Wars ripped off Dune because it used the story about people rebelling against a corrupt authority" and it's like... Both of those works technically "ripped off" human history with that. Why are we suddenly acting like corrupt empires and underdog rebels are only in the realms of two fictional stories???

The "Star Wars is space opera not sci-fi" argument is also so funny bc like, are you telling me that Valérian and Laureline and Space Battleship Yamato, other globally famous works that are considered space operas, also aren't sci-fi? Come on
