23 Republican Senators & 124 Congressmen signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court asking for a 50 state ban on mifepristone, a drug safer than tylenol that is standard treatment for abortion & miscarriages, "due to safety concerns". The brief DARES to argue that banning the life saving drug would save women from 'reproductive control'. (x) These 147 people would rather have women die of sepsis than let women control their own bodies. If your representatives are on this list, call them and tell their office you will be voting against them in the next election because they asked SCOTUS to throw the US medical drug system into chaos at the cost of American lives.

They were sitting on the roof of the Barge. It was a fresh, sunny day in Paris, summer turning to fall, and perfect for a picnic rug, some takeaway from the local Chinese restaurant and a six-pack of beer.

The only difference was that the Barge was now a couple of hundred meters further down Quai de la Tournelle. And they were looking back toward its usual mooring place, waiting for the moment when MacLeod came trotting down the stone stairs with his freshly bought groceries, and realised it was 'gone'.

"Gotta say," Thera took a sip of her beer, glanced briefly to where the engine was mounted in the stern, "she runs pretty well ... but I think it needs a look-over all the same ..."

ONU/Duncan Moore / Delegados participantes en la Asamblea de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente • La nueva edición de esta Asamblea, que se celebra esta semana, registra una cifra récord de 6000 delegados, entre ellos siete jefes de Estado y 139 ministros y viceministros, así como expertos, activistas y representantes de la industria. Entre sus temas a debate figuran algunos como la escasez de agua o las tecnologías que alteran el clima. Este lunes ha arrancado en Nairobi la sexta edición de la Asamblea de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente, que cada dos años reúne a los 193 Estados miembros de la ONU para abordar colectivamente los problemas medioambientales críticos a los que se enfrenta el planeta. Creada como una especie de “parlamento mundial sobre el medio ambiente”, la Asamblea, que seguirá sus trabajos hasta el 1 de marzo, pretende definir las prioridades de las políticas medioambientales y elaborar legislación internacional en la materia. Se espera que la Asamblea del Medio Ambiente de 2024 acoja a la cifra récord de 6000 delegados, entre ellos siete jefes de Estado y 139 ministros y viceministros, así como expertos, activistas y representantes de la industria. La Asamblea se creó en 2012 como resultado de la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre Desarrollo Sostenible, conocida como Río+20, celebrada en Brasil. Desde su creación, la Asamblea ha marcado el comienzo de una nueva era de la cooperación en la que las cuestiones medioambientales han recibido el mismo nivel de importancia que preocupaciones mundiales como la paz y la seguridad, y la salud. A lo largo de los años, la Asamblea ha aprobado importantes resoluciones sobre temas como la lucha contra el tráfico ilegal de fauna y flora silvestres, la protección del medio ambiente en zonas de conflicto armado o la movilidad urbana sostenible, entre otros. Gracias a los debates de la sesión de 2022 de la Asamblea de Medio Ambiente, se han iniciado las negociaciones sobre el primer instrumento internacional jurídicamente vinculante para acabar con la contaminación provocada por el plástico, que se espera esté terminado a finales de 2024. ¿Qué está en juego este año? Los temas centrales de debate serán los acuerdos internacionales sobre medio ambiente y cómo pueden contribuir a superar la triple crisis planetaria del caos climático, la pérdida de biodiversidad y la contaminación. A pesar de las incertidumbres socioeconómicas surgidas a raíz de la pandemia del COVID-19 y de las crecientes tensiones geopolíticas actuales, los dos últimos años han estado marcados por victorias muy importantes para la cooperación medioambiental. Por ejemplo, en 2022, la Asamblea General de la ONU reconoció el derecho humano universal a un medio ambiente limpio, sano y sostenible, abriendo espacio para cambios constitucionales y legales en los países a favor del medio ambiente y la humanidad. Ese mismo año, se aprobó el histórico Marco Mundial para la Biodiversidad de Kunming-Montreal, con medidas para proteger a un millón de especies de animales y plantas en peligro de extinción. En junio de 2023, los 193 países miembros de la ONU firmaron el llamado Tratado de Alta Mar, para conservar la biodiversidad marina en zonas situadas más allá de las jurisdicciones nacionales. El pasado noviembre, en la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (COP28) se anunció un acuerdo largamente esperado sobre la financiación de las “pérdidas y daños” para los países vulnerables más afectados por el cambio climático.
