#pan draws #pan designs #zine #zines #this one was very fun even though it killed me a bit <- guy who had too much shit to do #the cover (spread 1) and album covers are linocut. the album/band names + reviews are 3d-printed plates #the whole thing was ran through a letterpress machine in 2 passes—first pass was the black ink and second pass was the pink ink #there r two variants! the one here is on gray ingres paper but theres another version on white masa paper that also has blind deboss #theres like. 22 total in this edition. maybe i'll open shop for these guys. it was fun #i enjoy carving blackletter typefaces looking forward to doing more o7

I was going to also make a ref sheet for Gale for my first art fight, but now that I have that research exception I imagine I'm going to be spending pretty much all of my free time cramming 6 months of capstone into 6 weeks, so

So here, have what I had finished before, because there's currently no reason for me to finish any outfits v_v

#this just in: local algae enthusiast shocked to find that u feel bad when u dont take care of yourself >:-[#this is bullshit. i am rattling the bars of my cage and also i am standing outside the door with the key #what do u mean i cant not sleep enough. intensely focus for 6.5hrs nonstop and have to take care of additional stuff floating around.#and then spend all my time agonizing over not being productive enough?#ugh. its exhausting. and its one thing to live like this and love what ur doing. its another when u dont fucking care so all ur time feels #empty and pointless bc all u do is work. bleh i just wanna draw all the time but coloring takes so much time when u wanna make complicated #things :-( so its like draw something new or spend 3hrs coloring and i hate coloring :-P #its also frustrating bc when i read papers associated with the work ill be doing in the fall i actually enjoy it #and thats what i wanna do in my free time but that space is so limited bc working takes up all the space #and drawing takes a lot of time. but hey i can cut out more space by not taking care of myself 😎#ugh. dont b like me. draw a healthy line between academia and life #otherwise its like yay reviewers have approved ur 1st authored paper and im like i could not even begin to care #light all my data on fire for all i care. i would feel nothing #and im not gonna rake od measurements today. fuck u. im tired and if i accidentally killed a culture ill be sad #ugh. but i should. but i have to do some coding before the end of the day and i cant if i have to spend another hr here 😫#ugh. just a few more months #unrelated

Boset-Bericha, Ethiopia

(or: some quick analysis of a rift volcano using satellite imagery)

Having a look at global volcanism datasets today (for funsies) and look at this beauty in the East African Rift! You can see lava flows with lobate margins around a central caldera, and tons of parasitic cones on the flanks and inside the caldera (can just about make them out with the hillshade, they’re the slightly suspect circles which catch the eye). It's an easy mistake to make, thinking that this is a basaltic volcano – it is, after all, dominated by flows, not pyroclasts, and the lobate shapes indicate a low-viscosity, mafic character to the lava.

That is not quite the case.

There's something quite unusual about these lava flows and that's the morphology of these lobes:

At first glance, this texture we see is reminiscent of ropey basaltic pahoehoe – a fairly common, immensely satisfying type of lava. However, the field of view here is about 3km, making the 'rope' features here at least 10s of metres in scale. Pahoehoe ropes form at cm to dm scales, and pahoehoe often transitions into a'a downslope as gases exsolve and lava viscosity increases. That transition is not seen here.

The reason is this: we're not looking at a basalt. Instead of pahoehoe ropes, we see ogives or pressure ridges, which are formed by the same processes as pahoehoe ropes, but with different parameters requiring a different lava composition (thus, resulting in these different scales). These flows are peralkaline flows – most likely commendite or pantellerite, which are low viscosity silica rich rocks found over mantle hotspots. Elevated mantle temperatures in plume tails or peripheries result in small degrees of melt very rich in alkaline metals (K, Na) which make lava especially runny. Even rhyolites – which otherwise tend to form very short, spiny flows, or produce highly explosive pyroclastic eruptions.

So – some exotic lava types in Ethiopia, and that's all due to the East African superplume! The same plume is responsible for the Ethiopian flood basalts and the opening of the Red Sea, as well as the construction of Ol Doinyo Lengai, which erupts natrocarbonatite.

✩ ‧ ˚. synopsis: by the end of your checkup, you're seriously considering going out with your doctor.

contents: gn!reader. non-descriptive medical themes (you get a flu shot).

doctor!gojo who's your favorite part of your bi-yearly checkups at your local hospital.

doctor!gojo who swings open the door to your checkup room the very second you finish changing into the robe given to you by his assistant. he shoots a cheeky smile at you before sitting down behind his computer, spreading his legs just enough for it to draw your attention.

doctor!gojo who asks how his favorite patient's doing and pauses his review of your file to listen. his clear blue eyes focus on you intently as you speak, and he smiles when you stumble over your words due to the eye contact.

doctor!gojo who raises an eyebrow in mock disapproval when you admit that you haven't gotten your flu shot this year. he sighs dramatically and scolds you for not taking care of yourself (especially because it's getting awfully close to winter) before offering to give it to you then and there.

doctor!gojo who hums a familiar tune while he traces your arm through gloved hands, rolling up the sleeve of your scandalously thin robe and studying your bare skin. he unwraps a cleansing wipe and rubs it over your skin, fingers gently caressing your arm as he does so.

doctor!gojo who playfully asks if you're scared of needles when you grimace at the sight of it. his slender fingers grasp the underside of your arm as he preps you, making sure to keep your nice and comfy as he does so.

doctor!gojo tells you about how one of his coworkers, a nurse he refers to as suguru ended up in a sticky situation earlier in the day. his words take your mind off the shot, and it's over so fast that you hardly even feel it.

doctor!gojo who unwraps and slips a lollipop between your lips after praising you for being a good, complaint patient. he steps out of the room to let you change back into your clothes. a couple minutes later, when he re-enters, he takes his sweet time looking you up and down before walking you out.

doctor!gojo who leans against the wall, white coat draped around his shoulders as you make arrangements with his assistant for your next appointment. at one point, he strolls over and takes a look, sighing dramatically when he sees just how long it'll be until he sees you again.

doctor!gojo who goes out of his way to escort you all the way to the front door of the hospital. and just when you're about to say your goodbyes and thank him for his time, he slips a slender hand into his pocket and extracts a small piece of paper.

doctor!gojo who takes your hand and delicately presses the paper into the palm of your hand. he clarifies that it's his number and not a bomb threat, which makes you laugh (to his delight).

doctor!gojo who sighs and says that he'd love to stay and chat, but unfortunately, he has a job. he makes you promise to call him later, though, and you both leave with your hearts skipping.

I think you should read webcomics but I also think you should challenge yourself about it, go find that odd creation that's out there because one horny lady once thought it was cool or a dude was giving his first shot at a story and it came all wrong or they tried to do it traditional and their only medium was pencil and printer paper. Maybe if you like reading romance on webtoons you can go look at comic fury and see someone's nightmare of a comic or maybe you like sci-fi and there's someone on tapas drawing the sexiest priest ever who will finally not bore you. Maybe all you've read are Hiveworks webcomics when The Duck comics are right there and maybe that comic that's using only 3D assets that turned you off at first really has the most compelling writing you'll see this year. It's easy to say "read more webcomics" and give you the same three suggestions or collectives over and over. The net is vast and infinite and so is the array of human creation.

Maybe start with a random one. And then keep jumping
