In the Mysterious Papua walk in aviary, a Nicobar Pigeon or dove was nesting right next to the walkway just out of reach to the human hand. A few of its feathery friends are pecking at plates of what look like fresh salad.

Dove of war | Viewpoint 1 - The Aviary
Restored Archive - 05/05/2024 - 12:30
Name : Colibri Biographic Memoirs - File N°195
Author : Cirrus
Archive's Date - 06/2020
“Cirrus, still no visual on the other intruders?”
“Still none Colibri, but I was able to locate two connected devices in the floor you were in”
Colibri was now at the bottom of the elevator’s shaft, rapidly breaking open the elevator’s trapdoor with a small impulsion grenade, “Cirrus, before you try to hack into their devices, I’ll need you to open the elevator’s door on floor -2.”
“Easy, I’ll just divert the power again and –” Both metallic doors slid open at the same time, before the loud sound of crashing metal could be heard.
“Shit, they got through.” Colibri muttered as she ran into the dimly lit hallway in front of her, the walls were made of tan concrete, almost all covered with large green metallic lockers, only broken by the few locked doors alongside. “Cirrus, Guide me to the nearest ventilation access, I’ll need to get to the diamond as quick as I can!”
“Hey, I’m trying to hack here! Those devices I’ve located are encrypted to the brim, who knows what delightful intel they have if they’re that protected!”
“Cirrus, for heaven’s sakes I’m being chased here can’t this wait?”
“Take the next door to your left, it should be opened…  now!” Colibri leaped through the doorway, her ring starting to emit a small white light to see through the completely dark room, it looked like some sort of bureau, tons of archival papers stashed into drawers, shelves upon shelves of classified information hidden under one of London’s most secured location,
“This seems to easy Cirrus…” Calmly said Colibri while looking through the papers
“How so?”
“There is not a chance the government would just let all this classified information here without anyone to guard it, I know we had to hack through some doors, but all of this is too dangerous to be left behind just that!”
“What is that “we”? you have no idea how many firewall layers there was to go through just to open the backdoor!”
Small footsteps could be heard, followed by a small ray, similar to those of a flashlight, could be seen looking around the corridor. “This isn’t what we’re here for anyway” muttered Colibri to herself, still trying to find the access to the ventilation system.
“Stop right here, intruder” shouted a deep, gritty voice from behind, “Hands up or I’ll open fire!”
Without much options, Colibri cooperated, putting her hands above her in evidence and slowly turning to see who had caught her, it was a massive grey-haired man, slightly taller than the doorway, his beard hiding all form of expression on his visage. Her captor didn’t look like a guard however, he was in a desaturated light blue lab-coat and formal shoes, not the kind of attire you would jump down an elevator shaft with, he looked more like a science teacher than a fighter, but he was armed with a pistol, and Colibri wasn’t.
“What are you doing here? The conferences are on the other side of the road professor!” she chuckled, trying to relieve the atmosphere
“Got yourself in trouble little bird?”
“Oh shut up Cirrus, I can handle it”
“Intruder, please deactivate your communication device, now!” Said the figure, hunched down to fit through the doorway.
“If you wish!” Colibri said, dropping what resembled an earpiece to the floor
“Great job, I knew giving you that miniature camera was a great idea, I have a visual on him now!” Cirrus muttered, trying to be as quiet as possible. “I’ll try to find his identity in Interpol’s Database, but you have to buy me some time!”
“Now please come with me, We’ll have some talking to do,” grunted the man in front of him before reaching for a small phone-like device in his pocket “Aquilo, I’ve got her, continue the miss–  Aquilo? Do you hear me?” Colibri’s Assailant seemed confused, and flipped the device, remarking a small jammer attached on it’s side, “You, what did you do?”
“Only seemed fair!” Colibri snarkily answered has she leaped backward and landed on one of the lockers. “We could team up you know! You don’t seem to be here for legal reasons, sneaking in the hallways, messing with the cameras, why are you here?”
“Hey now, I’m the one asking the questions here! And a little bird told me you’re not to be trusted!” the man aimed his gun back at Colibri, “I’m the one with a weapon here remember? Now you’re either coming with me willingly, concussed or dead; you’re choice!”
“Colibri, I’ve been able to find a matching profile, You’re faced with Trevor Smith, renowned British Mathematician since about 40 years, he’s also part of some weird association, the “Espa Isles” I’ve never heard about that before!” Cirrus said, his voice slightly nervous, “This guy is like a ghost, no information about his whereabout in the last 10 years is present, none expect an hidden whitelist, where his name was added 8 years ago”
Colibri nodded, even though Cirrus couldn’t see her, before flying head first into his Chest, “Cirrus, I’m going back through the elevator shaft, I’ll need you to open it again”
“Not on my watch!” he said before aiming his pistol, shooting a bullet straight at Colibri, well not really ‘straight’ as the bullet started to move in wave before hitting through one of the lockers at Colibri’s side.
“That’s not normal…” Colibri mumbled to herself before grabbing a small boomerang from one of her pockets, “Cirrus, Light off!”
The light all shut down at once, plunging the hallway into darkness once again, for a few seconds only. Multiple white dots of lights starts to fly around her foe, going so fast they were leaving a white streak of light behind them, Trevor slightly grinned as Colibri was backing up, “Call me Geogeist little bird. So you can tell everyone who took you out once you’re at the Foundation!”
The small dots flew at an incredible speed toward Colibri, all in different trajectories, two of them hit the wall, one broke a light and immediately fried and the last flew straight into Colibri’s knee, the impact punching her to the ground, “Not bad little one, but I’ve gone after far stronger foes than you before, just give up!” Geigeist monologued, “It’s not personal, just business. I can’t let an anomaly run free!”
Colibri was on the ground, another orb flying in an ellipse over her head, stopping her from getting up, Geogeist was getting closer and she was grasping on her boomerang as hard as she could, waiting for him to be in the perfect spot. “But I don’t think you’ve gone against someone wittier than me! Cirrus, open the doors!”
The light flickered as a wave of electricity ran across the hallway, opening all the locked door at once, the closer one hitting Geogeist right in his abdomen. Now slightly concussed, he stopped concentrating on the small drone spinning above Colibri, which fell to the ground immediately.
As soon as the door opened, Colibri took the opening and leapt back on her feet before throwing her boomerang right at the elevator’s door, the boomerang stuck itself into the metal, stopping the door from opening or closing any further.
“Goodbye Geoguy or whatever you called yourself, I sure won’t remember you!” Colibri added before entering the shaft once again. “Cirrus, you said there were two devices, right? Can you locate the other one for me?”

Aviary August, #2: ruddy quail dove, #3: horned grebe and #4: i'iwi!
[ID: Three digital ketches of birds signed Meaningless Mikhaïl.
First, a ruddy quail-dove, perched on a branch over a duck background. Its head, wings and claws are in shades of red, its belly a warm nude yellow.
Second, a horned grebe and her little ones, swimming in a blue background. Its feathers are a messy mix of colors ranging from a dark grey to a pale gold, with bright red accents. The babies are white with black streaks, cuddled in the adult's wings. Adult and babies' eyes are all bright red.
Last, an i'iwi eating from a yellow flower on a branch, over a pale blue background. It is entirely red, its beak closer to orange, while the branch and leaves are all painted orange. End ID.]
Slowly catching up, I'm having fun with these. They'd be good warm-ups I think!

Any time a bird is in captivity of any kind without fail there’s someone who shows up and goes ‘:( so sad, it should be FREE!’ Which, I’m very aware of the problems with cagebirds, but someone does this every time including when the bird in question is very clearly a genetic freak of some sort. For example, a rescue aviary near me used to have a lovely fantail dove, who according to volunteers was extremely friendly and loved cuddles and sitting on people’s heads. She’s passed away now, sadly, but on the aviary facebook there’s an old video of her and someone has put one of those comments along the lines of she should be in the wild. But she was so visibly a product of human selective breeding it was unreal. She had a huge, bulgy chest and her neck was bent so far back that the resting position of her head was on her back. If her eyes weren’t on the sides of her head she wouldn’t have been able to see over her own chest. Not all fantail doves look like this, but this one was so extreme looking that they had a little sign on the aviary reassuring people she was alright. I just wondered where exactly this commenter imagined she would belong if all the birds in the aviary were released into the wild and somehow back into their ideal habitats. There’s nowhere in the world outside of in the care of humans where a bird looking like that would be remotely ok.

Krow and Mc make art adopts together, but some ai loser steals their design?
Oh man. Let me take a moment to say; fuck AI. Fuck AI art. Fuck all that shit.
Anyway.
First you'd have to explain a bit of AI "art" to Krow. He really doesn't go online much, so he wouldn't immediately know. But once he understands, god, he'd be furious.
Art is Krow's lifes blood and soul for him. To hear that people... STEAL art and make these?? Cheap copies is an understatement. Soulless, artificial MOCKERIES is a huge insult.
And he'd be VERY particular about any of his art going up online henceforth.

Name : Colibri Biographic Memoirs - File N°194
Author : Cirrus
Archive's Date - 06/2020
“Cirrus, can you hear me? Is the connection working?”
“Yep, everything is working great over here Colibri, are you ready?”
“Of course I’m ready, we’ve been planning this one for months now, it’s going to finally be a big hit!”
“Okay, but be careful, we can’t let you be spotted yet, we need to stay undercover for now.”
“… Don’t worry about that, I’ve got everything under control”
“So the coast is clear?”
“Yes, no one here to see!”
“Then prepare to glide down, I’m ready for some action!”
London was quiet for once, the never-ending chatter that the city was usually filled with was no more since the lockdown, and since the night had fallen, no one was outside anymore, no one except Colibri.
She was perched atop one of the towers from the Tower Bridge, ready to glide down, while Colibri was no stranger to it, she had never done such a big heist before, where she was mostly content with taking back unregistered artifact from private collections, so they could be studied by specialists instead of being exposed in the living rooms of some Billionaire, she didn’t risk much, because you couldn’t say you were stolen something that wasn’t registered.
But today, she wasn’t stealing an unregistered artifact, she had to make an impact to find more allies, to make a name for herself, and what better way to get known across the globe than was stealing one of the Crown’s jewels?
Colibri had a target, she would get one of the central diamonds, a rare jewel stolen from India when it was still a colony, so she could give it back to the Indian Treasury, with just enough evidence for the world to know she existed.
“Are you making your move or not?” impatiently said the voice in her earpiece, “Time’s Ticking down!”
“Oh, I’m making one Cirus,” answered Colibri before jumping off the tower she was perched on, “and this one is going to leave a mark.”
“It’s 22 O’Clock! Enter now!” screamed cirrus as he was mashing buttons on his keyboards, one of his eyes always locked on the surveillance system the other trying a way to divert the power back to the entrance without activating an alarm.
“Go left, and after that it’s left again!” he said, the buzz of an overworked CPU almost covering his voice.
“Got it, still no movement on the cameras?”
“We’re all clear, the guards are still two levels above you.”
“Uh, Cirrus?” Colibri paused for a bit, “You said left right?”
“Yes, What’s the problem?”
“There’s no door to the left.”
“Oh for god sake!” Cirrus exasperatedly shouted after a loud paper sound covered the transmission, he knew the plan he found was obsolete, small renovations had been made two weeks before, but didn’t think it would cause a problem. “You need to find a way to go left!”
“Why? Are the jewels supposed to be th–?” The sounds of footsteps could be heard coming from the left, stopping Colibri in her chat as she muttered in her earpiece “Cirrus! You said no one was at my level!”
“Nobody is supposed to be here! I have no visuals on anyone at your level!” Colibri was looking around as she heard Cirrus’ keyboard before his voice came back, “You need to go above, whoever is here doesn’t want to be seen as well!”
Colibri had little time left, and the hallway she was in had only one way out, and that’s where the footsteps came from, she had to delve deeper into the unlit corridor, but every door she tried to open were either locked or led to closets and empty rooms, until she came across something else, “I have an idea Cirrus, but I’m not sure you’ll like it.”
“Well I don’t really care right now, you need to get to the level above, as quick as you can!”
“Could you open the elevator’s doors then?”
“That’s such a bad idea…” Cirrus audibly sighed, he knew this was probably the only choice, but it would be a risky play, “I could, but we won’t have time to wait for the elevator to come at your level.”
“I have wings, remember?” responded Colibri in a taunting voice.
“But an elevator shaft? You really think that’s a good idea?”
“We don’t have time, someone is on this level and really doesn’t want to be seen!”
Cirrus sighed again, before going back to mashing his keyboard, “I can’t redirect the current without activating an alarm, but I can invert it’s polarity!”
“And what does that mean?”
“It means that as soon as the doors are open you need to hit the fire alarm, on the right of the elevator and enter the shaft immediately, it’s going to stop the alarm but also close the doors!”
In a flicker, the light that where previously off all turned on in some sort of wave toward the elevator, lighting the hallway letting the silhouettes of two persons, way too colorful to be guards, appear before the light turned back off. The fire alarm blared as soon as the power got to it and immediately after the door opened, Colibri shot the red button on the wall with her bracelet-like taser, giving her just enough time to jump in the empty shaft, the elevator being stuck two stories lower.
Without another choice, Colibri sprung two massive wings from her back, covered in pure white and gray feathers, as if they where ones of a dove, before hitting themselves on the sides of the way-too-small-for-flying-straight-up funnel, forcing colibri to partially close her wings, so she could at least break her fall on glide down, the sounds of banging on the metal doors pressing her to find a way out, quickly.

A month or so ago I came across a listing on Marketplace with one photo, a price of $50, and the following description: "12x8x1 i have 45". Now, $50 for 45 pieces of stained glass of that size is an insane deal; $50 per piece of stained glass is...well, it's not crazy, but it's not a price I'd be willing to pay. Glass generally isn't as expensive as you think.
So I messaged him, and he clarified that the price was per piece, and I did my best to politely explain that I was not interested in paying $2,250 on stained glass slabs. Extracting myself from that conversation took some time, since he was keen to make a sale, and I had zero budget for it, but I did eventually make my graceful exit.
And then three days ago he messaged me, saying he was moving and to make him an offer on the glass.
I told him I really don't have much room in the budget for this, and I know it's not a number he'll like, but the best I could do is $200.
He said sold.
So yesterday I went and fetched forty five slabs of stained glass, each an inch thick and a foot long, and eight inches wide. My plan is to use some in the aviary, and also I may use some for book pressing, because they're pretty. The glass is so thick that you can hardly tell what color they are when they're laid flat. The colors are mostly a range of dark blues, purples, greens, and browns, which works great with my color palette. I want to eventually add a loft so that the doves can be out year-round, and ideally natural light would be good. However, doves are easily startled, and transparent glass runs the risk of them trying to fly through it. Stained glass is both prettier and safer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're intended for a stained glass technique called Dalle de Verre, where slab glass is chipped into irregular facets and set in concrete, which was popularized during the Brutalist movement. It's a cool technique! I don't know if I'll try it, but it is lovely.
