These birds are around every day, I think there are only two.
"The Eurasian Collared-Dove’s species name, decaocto, comes from Greek mythology. Decaocto was a servant girl transformed into a dove by the gods to escape her unhappy treatment; the dove’s mournful cry recalls her former life." - allaboutbirds.org
The Wood pigeon is a regular guest in my garden. I would also be very happy to receive visits from the friendly Eurasian collared dove, but it only comes very rarely. So I have to take photos in other gardens ;-)
Reposting some of my older stuff with better image quality. New posts are coming soon!
March-April 2011. A pair of doves in the nest near my window, sitting on the eggs in shifts, and singing their sweet “Coo-COO-Coo!”.
[ID: in the first image, a philippine collared dove sit in grass. in the second, a eurasian turtle dove walks down a path. they are both light brown with a black band on their necks. ]
pigeons with necklaces, pigeons with hats, what about pigeons with collars? two more fashion doves come on down the runway!
but who's is better? the Philippine collared dove? or the Eurasian collared dove?
