"THE ONLY REASONABLE BASS THEY HAD WAS THE DAN ARMSTRONG."
PIC INFO: Spotlight on live shots of Terence "Geezer" Butler of the mighty BLACK SABBATH, playing a Dan Armstrong Plexiglass Acrylic bass guitar while performing live at Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham, UK, c. 1972, during the band's "Vol. 4" era.
GUITAR WORLD: "On "Black Sabbath Vol. 4" [1972], you’re pictured playing a Dan Armstrong plexiglass bass."
GEEZER: "I only used the plexiglass bass because we were on tour in America, somewhere between Detroit and Toronto, someone had opened the case of my Fender bass and smashed it to pieces. You could see the hammer marks.
It was a Sunday, and shops weren’t open, so we got in touch with the promoter, who had a friend who ran a music shop. He opened it up for us, but it was mostly cheap stuff . The only reasonable bass they had was the Dan Armstrong. That’s what I used on "Vol. 4," which probably has the worst bass sound of any Sabbath record.
On the next tour, that bass was stolen. That’s when I started having custom Jaydee and John Birch basses."
-- GUITAR WORLD, "Geezer Butler on BLACK SABBATH's early days, the making of 13 and which album has the worst bass sound," by Rob Blasko, published 8 January 2020

This is the first Bandcamp Friday in which ‘Witches’ is available! Make sure you go and get your download if you’re a fan of Stoner Rock and Doom Metal! This is the longest song we’ve ever released! https://residualself.bandcamp.com/track/witches RESIDUAL SELF created this song for the events 330 years ago taking place in Salem, Massachusetts. With the lyrical themes of revenge and retribution, the witches have returned, along with their magick. In New England, where RESIDUAL SELF is based, there is a huge jam band scene that both Rex and David have experience playing in. This song "Witches" draws on both our background experience, and our location close to Salem. It is the lengthiest song we've made so far with multiple guitar solos from Josh. This is our answer to a jam style song, but bringing the hard and heavy style RESIDUAL SELF is known for."

Do any of you guys know of the band Maybeshewill? They're basically four just some guys, they make instrumental rock with lots of piano and occasional sample pieces that I would qualify as "soundtracks for hopeful but heartbreaking contemporary action dramas". You know the kind of intense, swelling music that gets orchestral and epic and suddenly fades to fit a visual storytelling? The kind of songs that you'd expect both in art film and JRPG soundtracks.
And with a cool DIY approach to it, no huge studio or production companies, just some guys. Basically the indie rock version of power metal. Real good stuff.
Anyway.
I just want to bring up that they split in 2016 but two years later ROBERT FUCKING SMITH told them that no, they were not allowed to break up and they had to get the band together and start making music again. And then he invited them to a music festival.
