Orwell's depiction of a dystopian world was one where people are crushed by oppressors and have no hope of escape, meanwhile Huxley's depiction of a dystopian world was one where people passively and happily allow their oppression.
This is why Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget took such a sharp turn in aesthetics compared to the original film, as the oppressive and dark visual themes of the first film as well as the narrative themes of forced compliance compare better with something like Orwell's 1984 but the colourful retro-futurist themes of the sequel, combined with the themes of delusional compliance and mind-control compare better with Huxley's Brave New World. In this essay I will--

dude... movie tickets prices r kinda crazy (´-﹏-`;) i bought two earlier for a basic 2D showing and it was $35 like HUH? and like... it's for a date and i do want some snacks so i will get food too, but I'm also like uhh I'm generally just. not going to go to the movie theater and will probs avoid it going forward especially since things only seem to get more expensive in this stupid country instead of ever getting cheaper.
I'm sure it'll come out to somewhere around $60-$80 total when like. I have a ceiling mounted projector in my living room .... for no more than $20 bucks I could get a similar experience here AND we can smoke n cuddle and get trashed in private. and what, I just have to wait like a few months for it to come out or keep an eye out for a 3P stream.
i do not mind paying for the date itself at all, i am very happy to actually - i just think abt the strike going on and how these selfish bastards (studios and theaters) are squeezing EVERYONE for the most profit they can get.
paid streaming services suck, theaters are ridiculously pricey - as someone who stopped going almost entirely since 2016 - and it's just like y'all are BEGGING for us to just pirate and stream ur shit (ノ`⌒´)ノ┫:・┻
we need more theaters that aren't Regal and AMC, we need way more resources pumped into indie studios, we need new distribution networks that get the finished work to people who would want to see it without having to go through these greedy giants.
anyways. i just wanted to rant at no one in particular, I think I'm gonna start trying to host some movie nights at my place after figuring out what my friends are into.

Okay
Can we not categorize "Maleficent" as a Disney remake?
I don't think the classification fits. It's a movie that makes Maleficent the main character and shows the (potential) motivations of a character who is otherwise considered to be a black and white villain.
Do we consider "Wicked" a musical remake of "The Wizard of Oz"? I don't think so...
I HATE Disney remakes because they generally bring nothing (good) to the original story and are poor imitations of the source material. Maleficent doesn't fall into that category. It fleshes out a character that gets no backstory in "Sleeping Beauty". It's not trying to tell the exact same story.
Do I think it's one of the best movies ever made? No
But it does have redeeming qualities and brings in some originality. Absolutely
Alright I'm off my soap box (Sorry, I've been watching video essays about Disney remakes and no one said it explicitly, but it's being insinuated that "Maleficent" is a remake and I disagree)

got told on tiktok that i was gatekeeping for pointing out that dudebros acting like Leia surviving in space was brand new information that had never happened before in canon, and that you shouldn't act like experts when you don't even know about the force unleashed. i'm not gatekeeping. i'm kicking you out of the fandom. you, the dudebros, are adam and eve, and i, better, more intelligent, the spokesman of the gays, am the angel at the garden of eden. i'm in charge now and you annoyed me.

i can’t fucking believe i’m getting this emotional over a canned Sailor Moon bootleg with B rated animation and even worse voice acting
but like.. having a main character use a wheelchair AND actively participate in fights? why, just think of all the young kids it could’ve empowered! some of which might’ve need it the most, like kids that could’ve been sick or that’d been in an accident
just imagine it
a young child that has gone through a major life changing event and is struggling to adapt-- then they see someone just like them on TV, fighting bad guys and saving the day--- and she’s a princess to boot!
and-- and she’s surrounded by friends who both love and accept her and they go on magical adventures together, she’s included in all their activities, she’s.. she is happy..... and she’s just like you.
like damn look me in the eye and tell me that couldn’t have changed the perception of themselves, their abilities, and the world at large

I was bummed that they moved Ironheart to 2024 because I was hoping Manny would do promo for it and get asked about Good Girls. I want to know what Manny would say about Christina. I want to see if we get any new crumbs!
Oh, wow, I hadn't realised it was taking that long for Ironheart to come out! I know there'll be a ton of VFX, but two years in post feels like a lot.
It'll be interesting to see how much press he does for it. He's billed for all six episodes, but I suspect he's likely supporting as opposed to a lead given the press focus so far has been more on Dominique Thorne (of course!) and Anthony Ramos. As for whether or not he's asked about Good Girls - maybe! I can't really see him giving anything but a generic answer. He tends to be pretty professional on press tours; he saves his more pointed comments for podcasts and social media, haha.
