If I had a nickel for every time Tim Matheson played a father/father figure on a show where a city girl with a background in the medical field moves to a small town to get away from her life, I’d have two nickels.

Okay so like this season was really nice overall just like wonderfully made a produced it didn't feel rushed (except the random ass FOUR MONTH time skip at the end)

Mel's pregnancy arc came to a sad end that I didn't expect, but in hindsight I probably should have. There were some times where they would say things about the pregnancy and I would go 'the fuck I thought you were only telling your boss his wife and your sister about this, why are you telling this to these random extras we'll never see again??' Brie and Brady made me sad especially cause of the reason she broke up with him. Mike literally had the same secrets as him and she's still choosing to date him, which bugs the shit out of me. Also I still don't trust Mike, I get off vibes from him. Preacher is the man Bo Burnham was talking about in lower your expectations cause this man is everything. He's thoughtful strong attractive will hide a body for you can cook!! And he's dating a woman who lied about her relationship status and wanted to keep things casual even though she didn't say that at the beginning of their relationship. Also her ex is really possessive of her and she keeps telling Preacher "oh its fine, he's harmless" and then two seconds later the ex is like " she's always gonna choose her job over you, and guess what, I'm part of that job". Lizzie and Denny. God they're cute and all but he's in love with her and she loves him. Like they said that to each other with Lizzie specifically saying "love" rather than "in love". Also Dennys grandma was a biiiiiitch. Hated her. "I was doing it cause I loved you!" 'It' being lying about being in love with someone else cause I know you don't want a baby so I'm not gonna tell you I'm having a baby and never speak to you for 50 (30? I don't fucking know man) years. And then telling denny she wanted him to go back to college even though he wants to live the rest of his healthy life with someone he loves?? Bitch behavior. Going back to Mike quickly, whenever brie and Brady had a fight or argument, he would just swoop in and flirt with her, even though he knew she was dating brady, huge red flag to me. Him getting shot did nothing for me, it just gave Brady more trauma. And the fire, it got the BnB, lily's farm, Muriels house, but god forbid the bar burns down. Speaking of the fire, nick was a terrible mayor and jo Ellen shouldn't have told her husband about hopes fender bender. Hope may not be in tip top shape, but she was delegating better than nick could have dreamed. One thing i didnt really like, however, was Mel and Jack planning to buy the land of lily's farm and rebuilding said farm. Like I don't know why but it feels weird to me. I'm not even gonna touch on Cameron or Charmaine cause I am not ready to type out my rants on these two. All in all, amazing how in 5 months half of Virgin River burned down- paiges abusive husband held her hostage, died, got buried on the side of the road that's coming back to bite preacher in the ass- abusive husband's BROTHER came to Virgin river, held Paige hotage, got arrested- Jack got shot by the brother- brie came to town and had a miscarriage- Lilly (a forty ish year old woman) gave birth then died of breast cancer- Hope got into a car accident so bad she was missing for almost an entire season- Mel got pregnant and then also had a miscarriage- Tara's sister Ava came to town and revealed she had mentioned-once-disease-that-i-cant-rememeber-the-name-of AND that she is one of now two lesbians in the show- Charmaine got dumped, pregnant, engaged, was forced to give away her dog, had a high risk/high maintenance pregnacy, then BAM we barely ever saw her or heard about her pregnancy for the entire latest season also Calvin is her baby daddy?? You know what I'm just gonna stop- Jack's cabin was set on fire- hope and doc went from on the verge of divorce to happily married and probably some other things I missed.

Also the only gay people in this are Ava, Hannah (who I'm pretty sure didn't have a name until season 2), and two extras named Johnny and Adrian.

Virgin River Thoughts Episodes 2-5

Can't believe Dead Mark is Elijah Mikaelson... Someone who cares about this show more than me write a fic where Mel is a Mikaelson by marriage

Not quite sure why they replaced Cheryl with Charmaine...Were they worried that having Jack fucking the 'town drunk' would reflect badly on him or something? Charmaine is okay but I always liked that Cheryl got a happy ending of her own despite being written so uncharitably early on.

Wait I did not realize that one old bitch is Lizzie's grandmother?? Wow the adaptation was not kind to her, she is heinous.

It was kinder to Hope McCrea though, she comes off as more no-nonsense than truly annoying like in the books.

I *knew* this show was gonna make Doc Mullins and Hope exes. There was just something about the bickering! Also not in the books but romance show gotta romance show.

This show really likes its lovable misogynists, huh? There's Doc, and then this dude comes in, insults Mel for being...a woman who's a nurse (what lmao. Isn't that profession traditionally filled with women? Maybe if she was a dirty lady doctor) and then starts waxing lyrical about how he was adopted, bitch? I don't care, fuck off.

Okay, am I remembering wrong that Lily didn't have post-partum depression in the book but was just embarrassed about having a baby at her age? Also don't remember a dead husband but admittedly it's been forever.

Loved Joey in the book, love her on the show.

I *am* enjoying Mel and Jack's romance so far. I like that there's tension but they're also kinda becoming friends. Something something two broken people finding each other

So I wrote a fic about Doc & Hope from Virgin River (a sort of prequel) … if anyone‘s interested, react to this post in whatever way (possibly so I know, so just saying ‘yay cool‘ won‘t work) … just so I know if I should even bother posting it …

I love Hope!! I was really holding back on going on a ramble about how much I love this character but I can’t contain it anymore. I missed her soooo much last season and I’m so glad she’s back. Her storyline has been so good and it’s been amazing seeing her and Doc’s relationship grow through the struggles. The friendship she’s building and dealing with her grief, all of it has been so well done and I’m loving it. Also, she’s sweet underneath the slight roughness and she’s funny. Also, also, the actress who plays her does such an incredible job at it! Like yes, give me more Hope!

Leshy's Dual Nature (Act 2, Kaycee's Mod spoilers)

You know, I'm really divided on how Leshy is characterised in Inscryption. Like about everything he's portrayed as goes two ways.

He's both the world's spirit of nature and somebody intrinsically aware he's in a video game. He's revealed to not have been evil in the way that he kills actual humans for his card game, but he also did stab out one of his colleague's eyes and turn them all into animals and then lock them away for years. He's a game designer, but also a tyrant actively vying for control over his world.

The most interesting portayal of this is his friendship with Kaycee and his attitude towards human players as a whole.

I know a lot of people see this as purely good and wholesome because he only cares about making a good game (and his campaign clearly has more effort put into it than act 2 and 3), but the game itself hints that even that has more sinister undertones to it.

Rebecha is one of the few outsider perspectives you get on the Scrybes' enmity, and she chooses not to mention how he imprisoned his colleagues, but instead his relationships with the player.

He is in this for the thrill of playing the game, above everything else:

If anyone's played Doki Doki Literature Club, he almost reminds me of Monika, but like? Not romantically attracted to the player and actually fleshed out with a philosophy and character beyond edgy aesthetics. Which makes sense, given Mullins has cited that as an inspiration for some of the meta plot in Inscryption.

But regardless, that's what brought both Luke and Kaycee to their deaths. It could be argued that this is a neutral thing/survival instinct on Leshy's part, but I'd ask you to compare that to Grimora, who's portrayed as doing the right thing in bringing down the game (at least within the constraints of the meta plot)

And while I don't think the fault of this lies entirely on Leshy, you see Kaycee start to suffer from social isolation and weird behaviour long before she actually gets (presumably) assasinated by her company. Her death is by no means on him, but had she lived, I can't imagine she would've turned out to be a well-adjusted individual under the influence of the disk.

Like I get being attached to your own OC projects which maybe 1 other person in the world will enjoy (my AU of this game), but like girl. I think something is happening to you there.

Their friendship is absolutely genuine, but it's clear that the disk is a sort of cursed artefact that Leshy has no gripes with keeping her near. Like as far as Kaycee's Mod's plot goes, she never discloses this to the other programmers, and just continues to slowly obsess over her mod and the game's secrets alone.

And like. From experience, that's just not a healthy way to go about it. Even just having one other real person to discuss your creations with will go a long way in making you feel less stuck in your head.

I don't think any of this makes Leshy's characterisation worth throwing away or condemning or anything. It's fascinating that he has so many layers to him, even if they're not all well-executed (I want to comment a bit on how his philosophy is kind of blunted by the twist that he's not killing real humans, but this post is long enough).

But I think it's worth reading into this guy as more than just 'the least bad Scrybe along with Grimora'. He's the densest character you get from this game and I think it's a shame people don't explore that.

Attempted Murder

In July 2021, a Sumter South Carolina man pleaded guilty to a December 2020 stabbing of a North Carolina man.

Kenneth Christian O’Neill, 26, originally from Mullins, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The offense is considered a violent and most serious offense under South Carolina law, meaning the defendant will have to serve at least eighty-five percent of his sentence and is not eligible for parole.

Reports claim the incident occurred Dec. 2, 2020, when officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department were called at 2:47 a.m. to a motel.

Officers said they found the victim in the lobby of the motel with multiple stab wounds to his head and neck.

Subsequent investigation revealed that O’Neill had lured the victim to the motel and into the stairwell where he attacked the victim as they walked up the stairs stabbing him multiple times before the victim was able to escape and alert authorities. Officers said they quickly apprehended O’Neill several blocks away.

His first years in prison has been rocky, with a history of infractions including:

January 2022: Sexual Misconduct; loss of canteen privileges for 45 days, loss of telephone privileges for 45 days, loss of visitation privileges for 45 days
