Today is apparently ANGRY STABBY BIRB DAY.

I was taking a walk on the boardwalk out near Bolstadt in Long Beach, when I came across this western grebe (Aechmophorus occidentalis) stranded on the path ahead of me. It looked alert and uninjured, so chances were just that it couldn't take flight off of the hard surface, but I called Peninsula Wild Care anyway to see if they wanted to bring it in for a checkup.

They quickly coordinated a couple of volunteers to meet me nearby, and I needed to get the grebe out of the way since a lot of people walk their dogs there and not all of them are on leashes. I figured okay, this is a relatively small bird, not as big as the muscovies I've carted around on the farm, and it seems calm, right?

NOPE. As I tried to gently reach for the grebe it turned from a calm, if confused pile of feathers on the decking to Stabby McStabberson, and I very nearly got jabbed and nipped a few times by a long, pointy beak attached to a surprisingly agile and very much NOT happy bird. I ended up having to take my hoodie off and dropping it over the entire grebe, and only when the lights were out could I bundle it up and carry it over to the meeting place.

Since it was pretty energetic, not obviously sick or injured, and its body condition felt decent (at least through the hoodie) I'm hoping it's going to get released soon enough after a checkup and a nice meal of fish. Many waterbirds have a lot of trouble taking off from hard surfaces because their feet are so far back on their bodies--which is great for swimming and water takeoffs, but not so helpful on land. If the bird had stayed stranded there they could have been injured or killed by another animal, or ended up dehydrated.

So let's hear it for Stabby the Angry Grebe, and wish them a good release back into the wild!

Lowkey, I think one of my favorite little things about Rescue Bots is how we get to learn a little more about Optimus when he shows up. Like, not war stuff or Orion Pax stuff, but just little things about Optimus.

One of his favorite Earth stories is The Little Engine That Could. Does he read in his spare time and if so, how did he find Little Engine?

He tells Heatwave that he has also been learning from humans. What has he learned? The phrase "Nothing much, double dutch." Who the fuck taught him that? My money's on Miko. Jack would not have the audacity to add that to Prime's vernacular.

He has a motherfuckin' rocket powered car carrier capable of hauling four bots. And since Team Prime had four four-wheelers on the team prior to Darkness Rising, you could reasonably assume that he has used it with Cliff, Bee, Bulk, and Ratch

Optimus knows what a pogo stick is. That isn't anything noteworthy, I just think it's funny.

(Raf and Miko notice their forms beginning to lose their colors.)

Optimus: Oh no…

(Raf and Miko collapse to the ground after they lose all their colors.)

Jack: Leave them alone!

(Sari Sumdac continues blasting her mind beams at the group, felling Jack next.)

Cody: Stop!

(To no avail, Cody is swiftly converted as well.)

Sari Sumdac (possessed by Unicron): It’s a pity, the way you bring out the worst in others. See how you’ve encouraged their deficiencies? It’s written all over their minds: insecure, dependent, obsessed…

Bumblebee: Oh, no, no. G-Guys! Come on, snap out of it!

Sari Sumdac (possessed by Unicron): *bitterly* Please stop helping them. You’ll only make things worse; that’s what you Autobots do. I make things better. Here…!

(Sari Sumdac snaps her fingers and Raf opens his eyes, turning and smiling unnaturally at Bumblebee.)

Raf (possessed by Unicron): Oh, thank you, Dark Lord, I feel excellent now.

Miko (possessed by Unicron): Oh, thank you. How generous of you.

Jack (possessed by Unicron): Thank you, Dark Lord. We feel so much better now.

Cody (possessed by Unicron): I feel excellent.

Sari Sumdac (possessed by Unicron): There we are! I’ve removed their flaws! Now there is nothing to hinder my strong light from sparking through them. I’d rather not spread my uninhibited self so thin, you know, but you’ve made it absolutely necessary. Now, the impurities you’ve encouraged in them are gone. Now, they are brilliant! Now, they are perfect! Now… they are me!

Bumblebee: You’re wrong!

Optimus: The humans don’t need to be fixed! They’re fine the way they are, flaws and all…

Sari Sumdac (possessed by Unicron): There you go again. Do you understand why you defend their flaws? I know why, Optimus. You like surrounding yourself with an inferior species.

Optimus: What?!

Sari Sumdac (possessed by Unicron): *smugly* You enable their terrible behaviors, so you can be the best of the worst.

Do you ever think about how in-universe, Optimus knew a process that allowed a bot to scan a third - and even fourth, which makes you wonder if there's even an upper limit - mode and just never thought to teach it to the rest of Team Prime?

I cannot describe how much the "Griffin rock has living dinosaurs under it" thing frustrates and intrigues me, an aspiring paleontologist. Especially since, it seems like various species (or at least look alikes of dinosaur species) of Very different geological time periods are living together. In caves. IK it's a whole cliche, finding dinosaurs living underground in this sort of hiddem world style, but... To Me, it also seems like there are a lot of geological anomalies in Griffin Rock. We aren't counting the fake volcano, that was a human made mistake that's somewhat very logical because lol humans are like that.

Large amounts of energon, whichhhh if we remember in the aligned continuity, all energon deposits were originally caches during the war and tbh I'd say personally that the rumors of griffins on Griffin Rock could've came from predacons because yeahhh there was a time period where Earth was Shockwave's sandbox. So that's definitely a possibility. .... hmm... what if the reason that Griffin Rock is more technologically advanced than the mainland is because of an Isaac Sumdak situation where a human took advantage of some technology unknowingly left behind by Shockwave, and more or less this influenced other scientists around them and while this ancient Cybertronian technology is probably not still around you can say that the effects of it are.
