This is the film I wished I witnessed and seen in the cinemas back then but I was born 4 years late haha. Filipino classic films got this wattpad-novel-plot-like storyline. Though, the chemistry is good. The antagonist is better. The girl protagonist is best. But I'm somehow disappointed on how Rico Yan acted here. I don't know if this was how he usually did it back then, but he seemed stiff or somewhat. I don't know if it's just because he's handsome that he's praised but his acting really disappoint me here. Nevertheless, this film maybe is a comfort movie to many. Rest in peace, Rico and I hope that Claudine have a healed heart already.

English-Waray storybook now available in Tagalog version
#PHnews: English-Waray storybook now available in Tagalog version
TACLOBAN CITY – Maya and Her Loyal Friends, an original English-Waray illustrated storybook published by J. E. Mondejar Publishing House (JEMPH) here, now has a Tagalog version as it aims to produce more copies in other dialects in support of the Mother Tongue-Based Multi-Lingual Education (MTB-MLE) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Actor Diether Ocampo translated the latest edition, including the second book of the series, Adventures of Maya: The Lost Fields of Palale, said Minerva Mondejar-Steinar, JEMPH chief executive officer.
“We are proud to work with Mr. Ocampo on this project. He attracts a global audience to our series, which is integral to our mission,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.
Steiner said her older sister, Bernadette Mondejar-Schlueter, came up with the illustrated storybook that has English text translated into Waray to help address the lack of books in the region that can be used for the MTB-MLE program.
The program is a feature of the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 which mandates the use of the language that students are familiar with as a medium of instruction to allow them to grasp basic concepts easily.
Last December, the Mondejar family, through J. E. Mondejar Computer College (JEMCC) here, and the DepEd Tacloban division signed a memorandum of agreement for the donation of the storybook series to 43 public elementary schools here.
Steiner said they will also donate English-Tagalog version of the book to public elementary schools in Cavite and Bicol.
Just like the English-Waray book, she said the latest edition is also made available for children worldwide, though Kindle, Google Books, and paperback on the Amazon website. The second book is coming out on Amazon next week.
The books can also be purchased at JEMCC in Naga-Naga village or customers can call 0953-832-3023 for inquiry.
“More editions in other local dialects or languages, as well as in some foreign languages are in the offing, too. We like to reach as many Filipinos with Waray heritage as much as possible,” Schlueter said in a separate statement.
For the original English-Waray book, she worked "virtually" with Northern Samar-based poet Ardeen Tuballas Capate to comply with the MTB-MLE program.
The one who served as a publishing consultant and book designer was Aaron Almadro, an editor-in-chief of a regional magazine, she added.
On the other hand, renowned Tacloban artist Ed Rompal provided the illustrations, from the cover to every page of the storybook, as well as for the other forthcoming storybooks of the Maya series.
Besides being colorful and interesting to kindergarten and primary school pupils, Schlueter said the Maya series has unique features depicting Waray culture, arts, games, and tradition that must be preserved and appreciated by the present and future generation.
Among the Waray games in the story integrated by Joel Alfarero and Crescencio Mejarito are "moro-moro," "palpagay," "latik-latik," "tamban-tamban," and "krus ni Magellan" -- which is aimed to draw interest from most children who may no longer play or unfamiliar with these.
“My siblings Arlene, Tipo, and Don also provided insights based on our memories of Tacloban life while my sister Minerva created the website www.thewarayproject.org for the book’s social media exposure," Schlueter said.
She further described the book as a medium to caution children on spending “too much time with technology at the expense of real human relationships; something we can all relate to”.
The international education expert, now based in England, said she is hoping that, with the book, “parents will encourage children to be physically active, enjoy the environment, and preserve these games as part of our cultural identity,” on top of the “cognitive benefits of computer games”. (PNA)

Central Spirit leads her home (LTJG Palmares Story)
By Nestle G. Taala
Tumblr media
CPU College of Nursing Alumnus, Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Tiffany Ann Palencia Palmares.
Central Philippine University, known to produce students equipped with exemplary Christian education, serves not only as a mere institution in which students learn and go, rather an abode, a home where Centralians remember to pay a visit no matter how far they have wandered.
The life of Tiffany Ann Palencia Palmares, a Centralian alumna, speaks not just of God’s calling but of God’s leading as well, and how He works mysteriously in the lives of His people.
Before serving the Philippine Navy full-time, Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Tiffany Ann Palencia Palmares was a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student batch 2011 of Central Philippine University and graduated as Cum Laude. Furthermore, she was able to bring pride and honor to CPU College of Nursing and the whole Centralian community when she placed 7th out of 22,760 successful examinees in the December 2011 Nurse Licensure Examination with a rating of 84.60%. Truly, the doors for such profession would easily be opened because of her said achievement. However, since God has the master plan, she only had eight months of experience in the nursing field.

Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Tiffany Palmares with Navy Reservist Diether Ocampo, CPU College of Nursing Dean, Atty. Salex Alibogha and College of Nursing faculty, staff and students.
Thereafter, LTJG Palmares decided to enter and serve in the Philippine Navy, not as navy nurse or military nurse but a line officer. She trained for almost ten months and was assigned as tactical officer which gave her the opportunity to train incoming and aspiring navy like she was before. On 2017, LTJG Palmares also took the opportunity to learn and to be trained as a pilot. “By the grace of God” she passed the said training with an award as Best in Academics. She also received numerous Military Merit Medals, Military Commendation Medals and Letter of Commendations. Currently, she is a co-pilot of Agusta Westland 109E Naval Helicopter; Admin and Publication Branch Chief, Office of the Naval Air Staff for Admin and Personnel; and Assistant Admin Officer, Office of the Commander, Naval Air Group, Philippine Fleet.
On July 16, LTJG Palmares visited CPU and the College of Nursing as her way of saying thank you to those who were instrumental in her college years. Likewise, she shared in an interview, “Although I wasn’t able to apply all the things I’ve learned in nursing school in the military, the discipline, like for example in inspections, was also very similar to what was taught to me in nursing: you follow rules and you will never go wrong.”
LTJG Palmares, a Centralian registered nurse who pursued her career in serving Philippines and her people as part of the navy, shared that Central Spirit is something which cannot be seen but one can feel.  “I really can’t define it. I think it’s about feeling welcome whenever I come back.” Whenever she hears a new colleague who is also a Centralian, their bond becomes automatic. According to her, Central Spirit is a feeling; it is love for Central and for fellow Centralians.
Truly, wherever someone chose to meander, the Central Spirit will always take every Centralian home – to our beloved Central Philippine University.
