quill notes - light, light, light! so much to say about him and so much has already been said. the violence had always been there, the bloodlust constant - something inhuman just made the mistake of giving him the gun

I read Diary of an Oxygen Thief by Anonymous last year and while reading it I was reminded of these books.

I read these years and years ago- but now I might do a re-read after thinking about things in Diary of An Oxygen Thief.

Maybe there is a law after all. Of nature. Like gravity. An unwritten axiom that governs our emotional dealings. What you do comes back to you with twice the force, three times the force. We are not punished for our sins we are punished by them.

Just finished Diary of an Oxygen Thief by Anonymous!
I Did Not like the book until the last Big Event that happens. The beginning confused me a lot, and it took a while to get used to the writing style. The MC (unnamed) is clearly not meant to be liked and I think that’s done wonderfully. It’s really interesting to read the karmic things done to him, how love let’s us put up with so much and how hindsight is much clearer but also funkier than real-time. The way he brings up his paranoia, alcoholism, and the way dissociation was represented felt very real, and it definitely reads better when imagining the book as an actual diary and not as fiction (which is never clarified so not wrong in imagining it this way, lol).
I had a blast highlighting stuff and fine tuning my highlighting style. I wasn’t sure if I’d get the sequel when I started, but the mc is a great + harmless way to experience both schadenfreude and second hand embarrassment so I think I will get it!
MC is such an asshole and thinks so incredibly differently from how I think, so if nothing else it was a good thought/empathy exercise and an entertaining read. I think it was important to be able to recognize and differentiate between harmful and neutral thought/behavior patterns in this guy and relate them to my own thought/behavior patterns, as a way to expand greater empathy to parts of my that I may not love as well as sympathize with people who are different in a way that makes me perceive them as cruel (sometimes they are cruel too!! Just that’s not always the whole story and that’s a fundamental philosophy I hold and this book stretched my limits of that philosophy). I don’t know if I would recommend it to anyone lmao

this might(?) be controversial but just because someone admits “yea i’m a bad person and i wrote this book about my bad thoughts” doesn’t automatically make it a good book. there are TONS of good confessional books that aren’t downright depraved and awful
