'The Uncanny,' directed by Denis Héroux
Movie, 1977 Supernatural portmanteau horror, in which the evil nature of cats is visited and explored in three different stories, with some familiar faces, as well as a few relative heavyweights slumming it. A real low budget growler, with reasonably ok stories played out with lots of close-ups of agitated felines, fake paws and a load of Kensington Gore thrown in for good measure. The horror is…

HARTFORD WOLF PACK SEASON ENDS WITH 3-1 LOSS TO HERSHEY BEARS
Tumblr media
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack returned to the XL Center on Wednesday night, looking to stay alive in the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs. However, the clock struck midnight on the Wolf Pack’s Cinderella run, as three unanswered goals led the Hershey Bears to a 3-1 decision and eliminated the Wolf Pack from the playoffs. Lucas Johansen potted the eventual game-winner 4:22 into the final stanza. A four-on-four sequence began after Beck Malenstyn and Will Cuylle were called for hooking penalties at 3:51 and 4:07, respectively. Mike Vecchione corralled the puck behind the Hartford net and snapped a pass to Johansen, powering into the slot. Johansen blasted the puck over the glove of Louis Domingue to give the Bears their first lead of the game and eventually send Hershey to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Wolf Pack opened the scoring late in the opening period. Ryan Carpenter collected the puck behind the Hershey net and attempted a wraparound that Hunter Shepard denied. The puck popped right back to Carpenter, who snuck a pass through the blue paint to Turner Elson streaking towards the goal. Elson unleashed a shot over a diving Shepard to give the Wolf Pack the game’s first lead. It was the second time Elson has found the twine in the playoffs. Hershey answered back just over the 15-minute mark of the second period. A delayed penalty was called against Hartford, and Vecchione collected the puck before the Pack could touch it up. Vecchione snapped a pass to Vincent Iorio, who sped into the offensive zone and ripped a shot that found the back of the Hartford net to even the contest at one. The goal was Iorio’s first career playoff marker. Hershey had an opportunity to take the lead when Sam Anas was awarded a penalty shot at 3:28 of the final stanza. However, Domingue made an excellent glove save to keep the score even and keep Hartford’s hopes alive. Johansen scored his first career Calder Cup Playoff goal at 4:22 of the third period, however, putting the Bears ahead for good in the deciding game of this series. Garrett Pilon tacked on an insurance marker at 7:25 of the third frame, burying the rebound from a Connor McMichael shot to put the Bears up by two. The Wolf Pack pushed for an answer late in the third period, with Domingue lifted in favor of the extra skater. However, Shepard held strong, preventing the Wolf Pack from working their way back into the tilt and sending the Bears to the Eastern Conference Finals. Make sure to follow the Wolf Pack on all their social media pages for information on the 2023-24 season. The Wolf Pack thank you for all of your support throughout the 2022-23 campaign, and we hope to see you in the fall! DenMother — FRANTIC RAM (self released)
Tumblr media
youtube
Sartre’s famous line that “hell is other people” is not actually about the potential suffering and frustration of putting up with our fellow human beings and their (real or perceived) inadequacies and cruelties. Instead he’s speaking to the way that we inescapably live conscious of the fact that we are under the apprehension of others, whether it’s specific people or just the generalized Other as instantiated by society and/or the various strictures we feel in our own heads. If anything, New Brunswick’s DenMother suggests, he might have been letting us off too easy. Sartre does acknowledge the way we often internalize the gaze of others even in the absence of their literal gaze (what else would you call socialization?), but on FRANTIC RAM DenMother takes us on something of a Dante’s Inferno of the self, progressing through and witnessing various personal spheres of challenge and torment in ways that reveal that the gaze of the Self can be just as painful and necessary as that of the Other.
DenMother’s Sabarah Pilon has been putting out albums for a decade now, and while 2011’s self-titled debut was already a strong debut of incantatory beats and layers of synths, capping her first decade of work with the vivid, head-spinning atmospheres of FRANTIC RAM feels like a real triumph. Here there are rites and prayers, dances and feasts, the aforementioned Dante, Jungian archetypes and the occult and personal reckoning and the claustrophobia of a global pandemic. It’s the kind of work you can only get when the artist has been mastering these tools and sounds and themes over the course of years and multiple works, and where pointing towards various stylistic roots (synthpop, industrial, the darkest of doomfolk) doesn’t really go far towards describing the singular effect of these songs. Looking for another record that shares some of FRANTIC RAM’s atmosphere you might pull in something like Holden’s The Inheritors, which also bends machines towards making something that feels primal, ritualistic, somehow pre-historic and pre-social.
On these nine songs Pilon evokes furies and seances, nudes and gluttons, women who run with the wolves and birds of a feather covered in tar, self-abnegation (or even -destruction) and fearsome expressions of power. Several of the tracks built to moments of brutal reckoning, with her left gasping “we are imposters” or “I’m nothing else” (in a way that, as its repeated, begins to sound more like “I’m nothingness”). Whether it’s the harsh castigations of “BIRDS (Feast of the Gluttons)” or the imperial, nocturnal sweep of “KING (Idol Worship)”, these songs can feel simultaneously like one is witnessing an intensely intimate working and yet as if they are invoking the same kind of deep inner confrontation in the listener. Ultimately this is something one can only do for themself; as “REDEEMLESS (Dance of the Wretched)” puts it, “and who am I forgiving / if not myself? / and I am the bearer of all my guilt / and nothing else.”
By the time of “FRANTIC RAM (Closing Prayer)” and the end of the album, both artist and listener may have attained a kind of fragile, uneasy peace with those elements of the self that just living in the world can cause to go astray or haywire, a detente that neither strays into denying our own power and agency nor allows us to run roughshod over ourselves or others. The descent through these various circles ultimately does not involve either rejecting these parts of one’s self nor just acting on pure instinct, without consideration, but instead an attempt to tame one’s self instead of either rampaging or allowing the sometimes painful distortions of some Other constraining you. The Inferno is revealed not truly as other people but the place we all live and struggle within, ourselves revealed not as the demons we feared, but merely human beings. However one wishes to follow Dante (strictly, loosely, or not at all), FRANTIC RAM demonstrates at least one part of his larger narrative still holds true; to attain any kind of neutral ground or even paradise, we must plumb this inferno first.

The Last Abode
The Gothic basilica Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis, France), is built on a Gallo-Roman necropolis, burial place of Saint Denis, martyred around 250 CE. The transept of the building will then be used to accommodate royal, Merovingian, Carolingian, Robertian, and Capetian tombs. The monument that we know today is the result of a thousand of years of expansion, due to the reception of the royal necropolis.
(The photos show, in order: an external view of the south transept; the central portal of the basilica; detail of the effigies of Catherine de Medici and Henry II by Germain Pilon; the tomb of Louis XII and Anne of Brittany dating from the sixteenth century; the choir of the basilica; the ambulatory; the apse; the chapel of the Virgin; and finally, the nave. The original photos are not mine and are under free license)

😄 - - #artiste #arte #art #arts #artist #drawing #dreams #drawings #draw #artwork #work #world #workout #castdrawing #sculpture #museum #fashion #forever #france #pencil #pen #paris #anatomie #land #landscape #louvre #love #jesus #gris #nature @museelouvre https://www.instagram.com/p/BmabG-UhPWR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lioxtcpr9nc2
