look, in all my time on fo4 tumblr and on the fo4 subreddit where hatred runs rampant, ive still only seen two valid criticisms of the railroad as a faction. ever.
(im putting aside the whole entire slavery allegory for the purposes of this post)
these two criticisms are:
if you (yes, you. the player) fundamentally disagree with the notion that synths are sentient people, the organization makes no sense and is useless. i cant change your bedrock beliefs on what constitutes a person, so this criticism stands
the mind wipes might border on unethical. the idea is good and well-intentioned, but it kinda sucks in practice. synths can choose not to have the procedure, but the railroad's catastrophizing about what will happen if they dont feels coercive sometimes. i could probably be convinced otherwise, but i think this is a pretty good point
thats it. there are no more. im absolutely open to (and would love, actually) yall trying to change my mind but just know that if your criticisms are:
they're short-sighted; the organization will eventually dissolve because there will be no more synths left to help
they have no plan nor reason to help synths post-institute; the moment the institute explodes, so does the railroad
they're too narrow-minded; they should be helping people too, not just synths
by destroying the institute, they're stopping the production of synths; this nullifies their efforts in saving synths and is even, dare i say, hypocritical
their password being railroad is far too simple and the freedom trail is too easy to follow; theyre just asking for another switchboard
[insert member of the railroad, usually desdemona] is mean; the organization is full of assholes
then ur efforts will be wasted on me. all of these criticisms are bad <3

Amapiano, a Nguni word loosely translated to "the pianos", is a South African subgenre of house music that emerged in South Africa in the mid-2010s. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterized by synths and wide percussive basslines.
There is ambiguity and debate concerning its origins, with various accounts of the musical styles in the Johannesburg townships. Because it has a small similarities with Bacardi, some people assert the genre began in Pretoria but it remains uncertain. Various accounts as to who formed the popular genre make it impossible to accurately pinpoint its origins.
The word amapiano is a IsiZulu or IsiXhosa, or dipiano is a word loosely translated to "the pianos", The genre is mostly sang in Zulu and Xhosa, Sotho, Setswana, Xitsonga, one of South Africa's native tongues.
Amapiano is a subgenre of house and kwaito music. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterised by synths and wide percussive basslines.
Amapiano is distinguished by high-pitched piano melodies, kwaito from South Africa basslines, low tempo 1990s South African house rhythms and percussions from another local subgenre of house known as tribal house.
An important element of the genre is the prevalent use of the "log drum", a wide percussive bassline, which was popularised by producer MDU aka TRP. According to amapiano pioneer Kabza De Small:
Tumblr media
I don't know what happened. I don't know how he figured out the log drum. Amapiano music has always been there, but he's the one who came up with the log drum sound. These boys like experimenting. They always check out new plug-ins. So when MDU figured it out, he ran with it.
The use of percussive basslines in South African house music predates amapiano, and was possibly pioneered by kwaito producer M’Du (also known as Mdu Masilela.)

One headcanon I have about synths is that they’re entirely organic except for two things: the plastic chip in their head, and their TEETH, which are made out of ceramic, and every single set is cast from the same mould.
Normal human teeth are already weird enough, so when you’re actively fucking with genetics I imagine things very easily go haywire with their jaws and mouths and it causes a lot of pain/is “unsightly” so the Institute just decided fuck it and instead of messing around with whatever needs-braces gene they gave the synths, it’s easier to just remove the organic teeth and implant new ones. But there’s no reason to make more than one mould, so every single gen 3 synth has the exact same set.
So theoretically somebody could identify every single synth out there with a 100% success rate, but 1) wasteland dentistry is in the GUTTER, and 2) who the hell would compare teeth?? Even if somebody did a full body examination and learned the teeth are ceramic, there would be no reason to compare to those of another synth.
