What to watch during the ongoing WGA strike
As the WGA strike keeps going, put the pressure where it belongs: on big companies, not the writers working for better conditions.
While we wait for new content (after an equitable agreement), here are some lesser-known movies, along with the (US) streaming services where they can be found. Feel free to add on with a title, short description, and where it can be found!
(Television show version here!)
Films listed under the cut!
Tumblr media
Netflix:
The Gray Man (2022) - Rated R. A CIA spook known only as Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling) is assigned to kill a former Sierra member... only to find himself at the center of a conspiracy. At the same time, he becomes the target of a sadistic ex-CIA mercenary (Chris Evans).
Genre: Action/thriller. There are likely to be more Gray Man films coming in the near future, along with a television show based on Chris Evans's chillingly villainous Lloyd Hansen.
Rocky (1976) - Rated PG. Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) is a washed-up boxer who works as a Mafia enforcer. He gets an unexpected chance at glory when boxer Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) wants to fight an unknown.
Genre: Drama/sports. If you don't know the story behind Rocky, it's almost as good as the movie itself!
The Imitation Game (2014) - Rated PG-13. The story of Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch), particularly his work in World War II to decode Enigma transmissions intercepted from the Axis powers.
Genre: Biographical drama. The Imitation Game is the story of Alan Turing's life, both triumphs and tragedies. It contains themes of hidden homosexuality, cruel and unusual punishment, and suicide.
Max:
Triple Frontier (2019) - Rated R. An ex-Delta Force soldier (Oscar Isaac) asks his prior teammates to come on one final mission, with the promise of an incredible payout.
Genre: Action/adventure. Triple Frontier is a typical action/adventure movie with some interesting effects and a cast (Isaac, Ben Affleck, Pedro Pascal, Charlie Hunnam, and Garrett Hedlund) that elevates it a little further.
Parasite (2019) - Rated R. The Kim family struggles to make ends meet until Ki-woo is referred to tutor a rich teenager. Through manipulation and daring, the entire Kim family ends up employed by the unknowing Park family.
Genre: Black comedy/thriller. Full of fascinating dynamics and an interesting look at divisions of wealth in South Korea, it's clear to see why Parasite gained such acclaim.
Casablanca (1942) - Rated PG. Casablanca, Morocco is a popular departure point for people fleeing the Nazis. Jaded nightclub owner Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) must decide whether to risk his life to help his ex (Ingrid Bergman) and her husband escape.
Genre: Romance/drama. Casablanca is considered by many to be the greatest movie ever made. If you haven't seen it, try it. Keep an eye out for dry humor and the way the director uses shadows to keep the black and white film interesting!
Ex Machina (2014) - Rated R. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson) wins an office lottery to help the company's CEO (Oscar Isaac) test his new AI (Alicia Vikander).
Genre: Sci-fi/psychological thriller. With incredible effects, a labyrinthine plot, and uncomfortable questions about what makes us human, it's easy to see why Ex Machina is considered one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade.
Hulu:
The Last Action Hero (1993) - Rated PG-13. Film fan Danny (Austin O'Brien) goes to see the latest in his favorite franchise, he finds himself pulled into the movie, working alongside his hero Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzeneggar).
Genre: Fantasy/action/satire. Think of every action trope you associate with Arnold Schwarzeneggar, mix it with a vibe like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and add some self-aware humor, and you have The Last Action Hero. This is not a popular film among internet aggregators, but I enjoyed it!
Palm Springs (2020) - Rated R. Reluctant maid of honor Sarah (Cristin Milioti) is fascinated by a wedding guest (Andy Samberg) who seems to know more than he should. When she follows him from the wedding, she finds herself stuck with him in a time loop.
Genre: Sci-fi/rom-com. Though Palm Springs has some real COVID-19 quarantine vibes, the plot keeps it from feeling like a time capsule.
Whiplash (2014) - Rated R. Talented drummer Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is identified for an elite jazz band by sadistic and manipulative conductor Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons).
Genre: Drama. Though Whiplash is not a horror movie, it is partially produced by Blumhouse Productions. That darkness really shines through in Fletcher's abusive behavior.
Role Models (2008) - Rated R. After a disastrous, drunken day at work, Danny (Paul Rudd) is assigned community service in a big brother program. He is assigned to awkward teenager Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and accompanies him during his favorite activity: LARPing.
Genre: Humor. Though Role Models can get a little close to cringe comedy, it's got enough genuine humor and heart to get away with it... and even be a little sweet.
Amazon Prime:
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - Rated R. An author tells the story of Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), the owner of a once-grand hotel in the former country of Zubrowka, using several frame stories.
Genre: Drama. Wes Anderson's films have a very characteristic style. The Grand Budapest Hotel features stunning sets, a ton of cameos, and enough quirky humor to keep you entertained!
Hot Fuzz (2007) - Rated R. London police officer Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is reassigned to the small town of Sandford. He's frustrated by the small town at first, but a string of murders make him suspect something more is going on...
Genre: Action/comedy. Hot Fuzz is the second installment of the Cornetto Trilogy. It is a satirical look at the cop film genre - and thus has a lot of overdramatic violence - but it manages to stand on its own at the same time.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - Rated PG. Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are two teens more interested in their band than their studies. But if they don't pass their history final, Ted will be sent to military school. A mysterious stranger gives them a time machine, sending them off to write the best essay of all time!
Genre: Comedy/sci-fi. If you're used to Keanu Reeves as a broody hero, you're in for a shock and a treat to see him at his surfer/stoner/slacker best!
The Iron Giant (1999) - Rated PG. In 1957, 9-year-old Hogarth Hughes finds a 50-foot tall robot in the woods. He befriends the giant and the two work to evade the government, who suspect it is an attack on the United States.
Genre: Family/adventure. The Iron Giant is one of the most recognizable and emotional animated films of the 1990s - extra impressive considering it's a Warner Bros film that came out in the middle of the Disney Renaissance!
Disney+
The Boondock Saints (1999) - Rated R. Irish Catholic brothers Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Murphy (Norman Reedus) living in 1990s Boston are sick of the crime on the streets. They decide to take matters into their own hands.
Genre: Crime/drama. The Boondock Saints has low scores on almost every film aggregator site, but is widely considered a cult classic. (Edit: warnings for insensitive portrayal of homosexuality and transgenderism.)
Feel free to reblog this and add your own lesser-known film suggestions! Support the WGA strike!
The Reluctant Dragon (1941) - Rated G. Robert Benchley wants to sell a movie idea to Walt Disney. As he searches for Walt, he wanders through the studio and sees how many of the magical movie effects are done.
Genre: Family/fantasy. I'll admit, this film was included on purpose. Not because it's amazing (it's interesting at best), but because of the story behind it. The Reluctant Dragon was released three weeks after the majority of the animators went on strike. (And most of the "workers" in the film are actually actors, another sore spot.) Disney fired all of the strikers before eventually agreeing to let them unionize and rehiring those who wished to return. (You can read more about the strike here.)

Blood on Stone summary and notes
Blood on Stone will be a Predator(Yautja), Alien(Xenomorph) and Clone Wars crossover! A lot of characters are in it, like my Yautja OC’s, the Delta Squad, and the Galactic Marines(lead by Bacara and Ki-Adi Mundi)
Tumblr media
Summary: Marshal Commander Bacara and his general Ki-Adi Mundi get deployed to investigate a strange transmission coming from a seemingly barren planet in the outer rim. The transmission is impossible to decode, so it is vital that the Galactic Marines discover the source. Is it friendly? Sepratist? A warning? They have no idea and head to the harsh planet. The world is called Tarchceakeue, a world plagued by long nights, caves, and horrible cold rainy weather. Once on the world, the supposedly invincible and hardass marines experience some trouble, and have to call in the big guns. The Delta Squad. But after hearing their problems the Delta’s need their own help! So they call an old Yautja friend in for help. (It’s R’tka if you didn’t know)
Notes: I Don’t own Star Wars, or Predator, or Alien, or the species in this. Bla bla bla
Okay, anyways! So I suggest you read ‘The Hunt’ before this so you can learn about how the Delta’s meet R’tka(my OC)  and get to know R’tka some before this! But it is truly up to you, my darling reader.
Along with R’tka, another Yautja OC will be joining this story, along with many clone OCs! Tarchceakeue is of my own creation as well! You will learn more about them all and the planet the further the story progresses
You don’t have to know much about the Delta’s or Bacara and his boys to read this. But I do suggest you have a little bit of knowledge about Aliens(Xenomorphs) and Predators(Yautja) so maybe see a movie or two from the series! (The first Aliens VS Predator is good as hell) But in the story I tried to explains things to the best of my ability!
Also! If Ki-Adi Mundi is out of character then I am sorry. There isn’t much on this dude other than he fucks, has a calm nice voice, and is pretty peaceful for a guy in a war.
Warnings:
Blood, gore, death, character death, alien things and technology, fight scenes that may be poorly written, lots of fighting and killing, Ki-Adi Mundi, cussing/cursing, OC’s, soo many OC’s, Xenomoprhs are gross and make nests from this weird clear gelatinous resin, so be prepared for alien goo and drool, violence and more violence, clone culture, alien culture, injury, major injury, acid and acid burns, advanced technology and medicine, fast healing, things get gross,
I will post the same warnings at the start of each chapter so I don’t spoil anything within!
I hope everyone enjoys this story!!

Henry directs Dean where to go, and you get to an antiques and comic book store. Henry claims it used to be the place where the old Men of Letters used to be, but it's not that anymore. Henry seems sad as he touches the mark on the door that's faded.
"Alright, well, this was enlightening. Let's hit the road, huh?" Dean says impatiently.
"Give him a minute, Dean," you sigh.
"We just spent four hours driving, okay? All he did was stare out the window and request Pat Boone on the radio. He had his time."
"It's just a facade," Henry says, "a way to rook our enemies into believing we are housed elsewhere."
"Okay, enough with the decoder talk. How about you tell us what this whole 'Men of Letters' and 'Legacies' business is, or you're on your own."
"It's none of your concern."
"No, you don't get to do that," you approach him from behind. "You don't get to tell us we're legacies and then not tell us why we are. Is this because we're hunters? What do you have against hunters?"
"Aside from the unthinking, unwashed, shoot-first-and-don't-bother-to-ask-questions-later part, not much, really."
"No, fuck this. We're also John's children," Sam says.
"You're more than that, actually. My father and his father before him were both Men of Letters, as John and you two should have been. Your mother and her mother and her mother before her were witches that were super powerful, as you should also be. We're preceptors, beholders, and chroniclers of all that which man does not understand. We share our findings with a few trusted hunters--the very elite. They do the rest."
"Okay, but if you guys were such a big deal, then why haven't we--or anyone we know--ever heard of you?"
"Abaddon."
Henry opens the door to the comic bookstore and walks inside. You take Joanna out of her car seat and grab her hand before following Henry inside. This place is small but it has a very homey feel to it. If you were someone who was into comic books, then you would feel safe here.
"Henry. Why? Why'd she do it?" Sam asks, catching up to him.
"I think for this."
Henry holds up a brown box with the same symbol that was faded on the door.
"What is that?"
"I wish I knew." He places the box back into his pocket. "Abaddon attacked us the night of my final initiation. All secrets were to be revealed then."
"Let me get this straight. You traveled through time to protect something that you don't know what it does from a demon you know nothing about?" Henry stares at Dean before heading deeper into the store. "Great."
"Hand me your... walkie-talkie," Henry demands of Sam.
"You mean my phone?"
"Even better." Sam hands over his phone, and Henry places the end of the phone to his mouth. "Operator, I need Delta 457."
"Who are you not calling?" you ask.
"Our emergency number."
"Yeah, not like that, you aren't."
You grab the phone and hand it back to Sam.
"They can't all be gone. There must be another elder out there who can help us figure out how to stop Abaddon and what to do with the box."
There is a young woman at the counter with a laptop in front of her, and Dean slinks up to the counter with a smile.
"Hi, could we hijack your computer for a minute?"
"Like you could fit a computer in this room," Henry laughs.
"Times are different, Henry. Shush."
"Sure."
The woman hands over the laptop, and Dean moves out of the way to let Sam do his thing on the computer.
"Give me the name of anybody who might have been there that night. One of those elders."
"David Ackers. Larry Ganem. Um, Ted--"
"Here it is," Sam cuts him off. "August 12, 1958. A tragic fire at a gentlemen's club at 242 Gaines Street."
"This is 242 Gaines Street. There was no fire."
"Larry Ganem, David Ackers, Ted Bowen, and Albert Magnus are all among the deceased."
"Albert Magnus."
"Is he a friend of yours?"
"Even better," Henry grins.
Tumblr media
You didn't know that Henry needed to go to the cemetery. It's past Joanna's bedtime, but Henry really needs to dig up one of his friends for a reason you're not sure of. Joanna is sleeping in Dean's arms peacefully, not minding that she isn't in a bed. You would have stayed with her in a motel room, but you're scared that Abaddon would come for you. You know nothing about her, so you don't know of her weakness.
"These were my friends, my mentors, our last defense against the Abaddons of the world," Henry shines his flashlight on the headstones.
"Here's your buddy Albert Magnus."
"Albertus Magnus was hardly a buddy. He was the greatest alchemist of the middle ages."
"Why is he buried here?"
"He's not. His was the alias we'd use when going incognito. I believe someone planted his name in that article... so that if a Man of Letters came looking for answers, he'd know something was amiss."
"Someone wanted you to come to this grave. Why?"
Dean shines his flashlight on the grave and sees a unicursal hexagram symbol, which is carved into the headstone.
"What is this?"
"Our crest. The Aquarian Star represents great magic and power. They say it stood at the gates of Atlantis itself."
"It's on all of the tombstones except for Larry Ganem's."
Henry kneels in front of the headstone which has a different symbol carved into it.
"This is the Haitian symbol for speaking to the dead. This is the message. Have you three ever exhume a body?"
"I got this," you say and walk in front of the brothers.
You want to give them a break from digging up since Henry doesn't look like the kind of person who would do the dirty work. Joanna is sleeping in Dean's arms, and you don't want to wake her. Instead, you opt to use your magic since there is no way you're digging.
Your eyes shine blue as your magic encompasses the area around the grave. With one palm facing the ground, you lift your other hand, causing the ground to shake. The dirt lifts into the air, and you move it off to the side. You repeat this process until the grave is completely dug, exposing the coffin perfectly.
"You truly have no idea just how powerful you really are," Henry says in admiration.
"What do you mean?"
All Henry does is shake his head in amazement. Sam and Dean shrug, but you step off to the side to let Sam jump into the grave to open the coffin. Sam opens the top and peers inside, his face scrunching up in confusement. There is a skeleton inside wearing a suit.
"Was Larry a World War I vet?"
"No."
"Then who the hell is in his coffin?"
"No idea."
"Maybe Larry survived the attack. He has someone else placed in his coffin so that everyone thinks he is dead. If everyone thinks he's dead, he's safe from Abaddon and everything that comes with her. Maybe he's living this guy's life. Who is he?" you ask.
"Captain Thomas J. Cary III."
"Okay. What are we waiting for, then? Cover this up. Let's be on our way."
Henry walks off back to the car, and you roll your eyes in annoyance. Sam jumps out of the grave after placing the top of the coffin back on, and you use your magic to put the dirt back inside the hole. Once you're done, you three follow Henry back to the car.
You need intel on this guy, so you need to head back to the motel room and do some research. When you walk in the door, Dean heads to the main bedroom area in the other room and lays Joanna down on his bed. She hasn't woken up at all, so you know she will sleep throughout the night.
You, Sam, and John take the chairs at the table, and when Dean emerges from the bedroom, he pulls up a chair next to you. Sam is reading John's journal, John is just twiddling his thumbs and whistling "As Time Goes By", and you're using Sam's laptop. Dean takes a seat next to you and takes over on the laptop, not that you're complaining.
"What is that? I know that tune."
"'As Time Goes By'. It's from Casablanca."
"Right. Dad used to whistle it from time to time."
"Your father saw 'Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy' at the drive-in one night. It scared the beeswax out of him. So, I got him this little music box that played that song to help him sleep at night. It worked like a charm."
"Wow, it's hard to believe Dad was ever scared of anything," Sam chuckles.
"Hey, according to county records, Tom Carey lives in Lebanon, Kansas, and is a very happy 127-year-old," Dean says, getting back on track. "I say we get some shut-eye and head over first thing in the morning."
"Wait, listen to this. According to Dad's journal, he once tortured a demon that said he made his bones working for Abaddon, who is a Knight of Hell."
"What does that mean?" you ask.
"Knights of Hell are hand-picked by Lucifer himself. They are of the first-fallen, first-born demons."
"So, very pure and very strong," Sam confirms.
"Legend has it that Archangels had killed all of them, which, as we have witnessed, is not the case. Unless she's the last of her kind."
"Wait, let's sidetrack for a second here. You're keeping me in the dark, Henry. What did you mean by how powerful I can be, and what legacy do I come from?"
"Have you ever heard of the Sapphire Witch?"
"No."
"Legend has it that the Sapphire Witch has control over Order Magic, which is the opposite of Chaos Magic. You can do anything you set your mind to. The Sapphire Witch can bend reality to her image. I've never seen a Sapphire Witch at her peak, but I know they exist. The Men of Letters have kept records of them dating back generations. I'm truly shocked you haven't heard of this. Your mother was a sapphire witch, and your grandmother was one. She was one of my good friends."
"I can't believe this," you whisper, trying to process this information.
You're the Sapphire Witch? Will Joanna and Maryann be one too? What does this mean for your magic? What sides have you yet to unlock?
"You say that belonged to your father?" Henry moves on to John's journal. "May I?"
Sam slides the journal over to Henry.
"It's a hunter's journal. I assume the Men of Letters used journals, too?"
"I intended to. I sent away for one the day before my initiation." He opens the journal and sees pictures Dean has stashed in there. He moves them to reveal a "HW" stamped in the leather. "As a matter of fact, judging by my initials here, this one, I believe."
"This was yours?"
"It must have arrived after... I'm beginning to gather I don't make it back from this time, do I?"
"We don't know for sure. All we do know is that Dad never saw you again."
"What did he think happened to me?"
"He thought you ran out on him."
"John was a legacy. I was supposed to teach him the ways of the Letters," Henry sighs sadly.
"Well, he learned things a little differently."
"How?"
"The hard way. Surviving a lonely childhood and a fucking war only to get married and have his wife taken by a demon... Then, later killed by one himself. That man got a bum rap around every turn. You know what? He kept going, and in the end, he did a hell of a lot more good than he did bad."
"Debatable," you blurt.
Dean and Sam's head snap to you, and you press your lips together. Dean scoffs and gets up, slamming the laptop shut. He grabs his jacket and his keys with the intent on leaving alone.
"I'm sorry. I wish I had been there for him."
"Yeah, it's a little late for that now, don't you think?"
"It's the price we pay for upholding great responsibility."
"Your responsibility was to your family, not some glorified book club!" Dean yells.
"I was a legacy. I had no choice."
"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that."
Dean walks out of the motel room and slams the door behind him. You let him leave alone since he needs time to cool down on his own. Sam decides this is a good time to get some sleep. He will take the other bed where Joanna is, and you and Dean will take the bed with Joanna while Henry will take the sofa couch.
It's just you and Henry at the table now, and you feel like this needs to be said.
"John wasn't a good father," you whisper to Henry. "The best he could have done for us was to take care of us when we needed him. The best he could have done was to move on after Mary died, but instead, he took me and his sons down with him."
You get up and head to the bedroom to get ready for bed. Dean doesn't come back for another hour, but when he does, everyone else is sleeping. Dean tiptoes past Henry and into the bedroom where you and Sam are asleep. He takes off his shoes and gets into bed next to Joanna so that she is between you and Dean.
You stay like that until the morning, but when you wake up, Henry is gone.

My Splatoon Agents
Since everyone has their own version of the splatoon agents, I thought I'd contribute! Also this helps me not forgor 💀
For me, I have multiple universes of splatoon, but I'm gonna be focused on the ones I actually work with most of the time. Most of my other universes are results of 1000%ing hero modes multiple times (like five... im normal) but I only tend to focus mostly on the fanon-agreed universe where agents have traits most people agree on, and my own little blorboverse where the agents differ pretty greatly from canon.
Universe A: The Fanon Universe
Captain 3: Default f inkling hair, orange and teal ink, teal and blue eyes. Non-biney lesbian. Quiet protag type, usually tired and seemingly no-nonsense but with a wry sense of humor. They have a scar in the area where they were semi-sanitized, but aside from the aesthetics they suffer no ill (physical) effects. Come off more stoic than they really are.
Agent 4: Short f inkling hair, orange-yellow ink, yellow eyes. Energetic and sporty, and not too smart.. but the sports she's done definitely contribute to her skills as an agent! Brain empty when it comes to food or hot women. She knows the slang better than everyone else.
Agent 8: Default f octo hair, pink ink and eyes. Excitable in an innocent way, complete baby but her lack of knowledge in inkling culture can lead to misunderstandings. Looks up to Captain 3 a lot, but is more casual friends with 4. Stims when she's excited.
Agent 3: Braided inkling hair, pure yellow ink and eyes. Bit of a gremlin. Usually they're silent which sorta gives off the impression they might be stoic or calculating but they're kinda just dogy and when you're not looking they're gonna pounce on an octarian. Loves smallfry to death even if they're stupid - it's okay because they are too.
I totally ship agent 24 in fanon bc I love the idea of them continually having misunderstandings about the other not liking them and bouncing between being avoidant to avoid conflict and appealing to the other because they're gay. 3, 4 and 8 form a friend group but the new 3 just sits on the sidelines staring like a feral animal.
Universe B: Non-Fanon Universe
Notable changes: The Squidbeak Splatoon is a general army with multiple soldiers. Octarian society is oppressive and does not allow contraband such as music from above ground, lest it lend sentiment to the enemy.
Captain 3 (Gamma): Salacia, Sal for short. Has default inkling f hair, orange ink and green eyes. A golden child - the older and more naturally gifted of two siblings, Sal took to sports and turf wars with enthusiasm. Being both a tomboy and overachiever, it's only natural she would get scouted and enlist in the Squidbeak Splatoon. She earned herself renown as the agent to end all agents, as well as always being active (this is why Marie thinks she smells). Exercise is an important part of their day! Their one regret is they're somewhat estranged from their sibling..
Agent 4 (Delta): Tethys. Sliced f inkling hair, light purple ink and deep purple eyes. Compared to Sal, who always stood out in physical studies, Tethys both admired and envied her older sister. Though it took more time, dedicated study got Tethys as a position in the undercover division of the Squidbeak Splatoon. Compared to the front lines where glory was common, Tethys' experience was fraught with danger in a situation where they were often alone and surrounded by the enemy, crawling around the Octarian underground to gain intel and report back. This resulted in several close calls when they were still green around the ears - their right (our right) tentacle was chewed halfway off by a octocommander, and a scar remains on the top of their head where an octosniper narrowly missed hitting something much more important. Tethys also knows rudimentary octoling as a result of their time having to decode what the enemy soldiers were saying at any given time.
Tethys left home under their birth name, but came back with a new identity and many awards for the service that still haunts them. Tethys has depression as a result and spends most of their time sleeping in their apartment, giving off a very lazy appearance. Support from the Squid VA has kept them afloat, but it has yet to heal the emotional scars. Despite all this, Tethys likes to act cool to younger inklings and plays in the occasional turf war to get pocket money. They have a great sense of humor and look at younger inklings as siblings to protect. Above all, they're just trying to enjoy their retirement until their services are someday needed again. But, their estranged sister is still looking out for them after they left so long ago. And a position like being a Captain means she can find out everything she needs.
Agent 8 (9?): Self-named Novi after her ID of 1,009, Novi woke up in the underground with no memory of where she came from after her close escape from the octarians. But, unfortunately for her.. the underground has already been escaped by Agent 8, and kambado co. and the surrounding architecture had already fallen to ruin. Without a goal, Novi had no choice by to fight up through broken tests and crazed and uncontrolled sanitized octolings to reach the surface with only a pair of dualies she'd found from a weapon depositor. She made it eventually - but it came with a cost. Having been fighting for her life and escaping death by sanitation so many times, the enemy ink had begun to have a negative effect on her body. Novi was slowly turning.
After being recovered by Off The Hook and left with 8, it was found the only way to delay the illness was by bathing in normal ink - namely, participating in turf battles in perpetuity would keep her healthy. But Novi, after her experience, longed to be a pacifist. So she tends to delay until the last possible moment.. Despite this, Novi is a very excitable and peace-loving octoling. She looks up to 8 for escaping before her, and all of the others who have helped her. She wants dearly to help her friends, but she has a problem of minimizing her own suffering - which is a certain danger when she basically has octoling rabies. When she's getting close to turning, Novi will become more aggressive, combative and lose positive emotions. She lives with Eight, partially because she has no other place to go and partially because they're not afraid to rev up their splatling and shoot her for her own good - even if she begs.
Zarya: Wears a ponytail with light blue ink and deep blue eyes. A deserter of the Octarian army. Her life was changed when she discovered a soldier under her with contraband - music from above ground. While listening to one track to confirm her findings, the Inkantation came on by chance and broke her from the subtle, yet continuous and pervasive brainwashing octarian soldiers endure from enlistment. She could only stand staying below ground for so long until she fled, leaving her troop behind.
Zarya was discovered by 8 and Tethys, and Tethys offered their apartment as a temporary home (since the housing market is garbage). However, they're in seemingly constant conflict - Zarya still strictly adhered to the Octarian work ethic, and saw Tethys' actions as lazy, as she basically has zero understanding of what mental health is. They fight often, but she has been ultimately successful in getting Tethys out of bed and practicing self care more often.
Zarya has a strong work ethic and strict morning routine that includes exercise and meditation. She has a strong desire to adhere to her own cultural standards even when above ground, aside from being partially mind controlled. This can also cause friction with Novi when she views the other octolings adaption to the surface as a betrayal of their values.
Despite all of this.. Zarya does care for those she knows, and she's grateful for the support she's been given. Maybe she could just use some help expressing those feelings...
Calder: A silly boy. Calder has the m inkling ponytail + tentacle bang haircut, typically in a dark blue ink with grey-blue eyes. He's younger than most of the crew, being at the very end of his teens whereas everyone else is in their twenties. Calder works part time for Grizz co. to make money, part of which he sends to his large family in another, smaller city. He has a problem with acting very haughty and talking himself up, but he's actually a wonderful communicator on the job. It's just when they get off work that he starts rambling and scares people away.. Berdly ass.
Calder's other part time job is at a hole in the wall cafe, where he's a barista and server. He keeps his two jobs separate as much as possible, and at work comes off as rather quiet and polite to customers.. once again, until he starts talking like Salmon Run is the peak of real battle. He insists on a lone wolf persona where he acts like an adult, but really he's just a kid trying to keep both himself and his family afloat while getting people to like him. Any mention of being childish makes him puff up something fierce.
Tethys took him under their wing after meeting on a salmon run shift, as they were both amused and vaguely worried that Calder's inflated self-image would get him into trouble in a real battle. After thoroughly trouncing him in a one on one match, they started training him in what real combat looks like. Calder respects them greatly, but still tries to act tough despite all this.
And finally..........
Agent 3 (Epsilon): A little skrunkle. After the movement of octolings from the underground to the surface, he was happy to follow. Epsilon has curled long tentacles, typically in teal, and purple eyes that fade to pink. He left the army because he thought doing whatever some guy told him was kinda.. lame (lol). But then he just ended up getting recruited by a different military anyway, and he's honestly kinda confused by how no one's noticed or cared that he's an ex-octarian. Even more confusing is when people see him as a girl - real femboy hours. Despite being a deserter due to laziness, Epsilon is very dedicated and a bit of a completionist when it's something he likes. And what he likes are: mysteries, food, money and having a number go up. However, he still values rest and will never work for a full day when he can work half and relax half of it. Epsilon ended up fascinated by Alterna and then mortified by some of the later logs and the philosophical implications.. but he's fine, probably! He ended up picking up his lil guy while traveling to splatsville, where he decided to move because it's allegedly very cool and also very far away from where anyone might be looking for him.
If you got this far - thank you so much for reading!!! This was really just an excuse for me to infodump about the ocs who live in my head and I really appreciate anyone who sticks around. Feel free to comment if you have anything you'd like to say.

In the depths of a remote and verdant jungle, an extraordinary group of primates defied the boundaries of known science. These five monkeys, with their sharp eyes and curious nature, had unwittingly become the subjects of a groundbreaking experiment in psychology and intelligence enhancement.
Dr. Evelyn Moore, a renowned experimental psychologist, had dedicated her life to exploring the frontiers of cognitive science. Her latest venture, Project Primate Paradox, aimed to push the limits of primate intelligence through advanced neural interface technology. She and her team had developed a series of nanobots, capable of enhancing neural connections and accelerating cognitive functions. These nanobots, once introduced into a subject's brain, could exponentially increase learning abilities and problem-solving skills.
The five monkeys in the photograph—Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon—were the chosen participants for this unprecedented experiment. Each monkey displayed a unique personality and cognitive skill set, making them ideal subjects for Dr. Moore's ambitious project.
Day 1: The Awakening
Dr. Moore carefully injected the nanobots into each monkey while they were sedated. As they awoke, the monkeys felt an unusual surge of energy and awareness. Their eyes, once filled with simple curiosity, now gleamed with a newfound intelligence.
Alpha, the natural leader of the group, was the first to realize the changes. He began to organize the others, using a series of complex gestures and vocalizations that were far beyond their previous capabilities. Beta, known for her agility, started solving intricate puzzles that had baffled her before. Gamma, the observer, demonstrated an uncanny ability to mimic human behavior, while Delta, the protector, showed advanced problem-solving skills in ensuring the group's safety. Epsilon, the youngest, exhibited a remarkable talent for learning and adapting new information rapidly.
Day 30: The Evolution
Within a month, the monkeys' cognitive abilities had surpassed the expectations of Dr. Moore and her team. They communicated with each other using a sophisticated language of gestures and sounds, developed tools to assist in their daily tasks, and even constructed a small shelter using leaves and branches.
Dr. Moore decided to introduce a series of complex psychological tests to further explore the limits of their intelligence. The monkeys were placed in a specially designed enclosure filled with puzzles and challenges that required advanced reasoning and cooperation to solve.
To her astonishment, the monkeys not only completed the tasks but also improved upon them. They displayed an understanding of abstract concepts such as numbers and shapes, and their cooperative problem-solving skills rivaled those of human children.
Day 60: The Revelation
As the monkeys' intelligence continued to grow, they began to exhibit behaviors that hinted at self-awareness and a deeper understanding of their environment. Alpha led the group in a series of coordinated efforts to explore the boundaries of their enclosure, seeking out weak points and testing their limits.
One evening, Dr. Moore observed something extraordinary. The monkeys had constructed a rudimentary radio transmitter from the materials in their enclosure. Using this device, they sent out a signal—a complex pattern that, when decoded, revealed a message: "We are more than you think. We seek freedom."
This revelation left Dr. Moore in a moral quandary. The experiment had been an unprecedented success, but it had also given rise to a new form of intelligence. The monkeys were no longer mere subjects; they were sentient beings with desires and aspirations.
Day 90: The Decision
Faced with the ethical implications of her work, Dr. Moore made a courageous decision. She would grant the monkeys their freedom and observe them in their natural habitat, allowing them to evolve and adapt without further human intervention.
With a heavy heart, she opened the gates of the enclosure and watched as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon ventured into the jungle. They looked back briefly, their eyes reflecting a blend of gratitude and curiosity, before disappearing into the foliage.
Dr. Moore continued to monitor the monkeys from a distance, documenting their progress and sharing her findings with the scientific community. Her work had forever changed the understanding of primate intelligence and the ethical boundaries of experimental psychology.
The jungle echoed with the calls of the monkeys, now more intelligent and aware than ever before. They had become pioneers in the exploration of consciousness, a testament to the potential locked within the natural world, waiting to be unlocked by the curious minds of both humans and animals alike.

Weather Patterns Decoded: Understanding Botswana's Climate for a Perfect Vacation
Botswana, the gem of Southern Africa, offers an extraordinary tapestry of landscapes, wildlife, and cultural experiences. From the vast expanse of the Kalahari Desert to the pristine waters of the Okavango Delta, this country beckons travelers year-round. However, to truly make the most of your Botswana adventure, it's essential to grasp the nuances of its climate. Here, we decode Botswana's weather patterns to help you choose the best time for an unforgettable vacation, whether you're seeking the thrill of an African safari or the serenity of its natural wonders.
Understanding Botswana's Climate:
Botswana boasts a semi-arid climate characterized by hot, dry conditions for much of the year. However, despite its aridity, the country experiences distinct seasonal variations that greatly influence the landscape and wildlife behavior.
Tumblr media
Dry Season (May to October):
The dry season, spanning from May to October, is widely regarded as the best time to visit Botswana, particularly for an African safari. During these months, the weather is cooler, and vegetation is sparse, making wildlife easier to spot around water sources. With minimal rainfall, game drives are more rewarding as animals congregate around permanent waterholes and rivers, offering unparalleled viewing opportunities.
June to August marks the peak of the dry season when temperatures are at their lowest, making it ideal for daytime activities. However, nights can be chilly, especially in desert regions, so it's advisable to pack warm clothing for early morning and evening game drives.
September and October herald the onset of the scorching heat, with temperatures climbing steadily. Despite the rising mercury, this period remains excellent for wildlife viewing as animals gather around diminishing water sources, creating incredible concentrations of wildlife.
Wet Season (November to April):
The wet season, from November to April, brings relief to Botswana's parched landscapes as sporadic rainfall rejuvenates the earth. While this period may not be as popular for safaris due to the heat and increased vegetation, it offers its own set of unique experiences.
November marks the transition from dry to wet season, characterized by sporadic thunderstorms and rejuvenated landscapes. This is an excellent time for birdwatching as migratory species flock to Botswana's waterways.
December to March sees the peak of the wet season, with heavy rainfall transforming the arid plains into a lush oasis. While temperatures are high and humidity levels soar, this period offers breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to witness the miracle of new life as animals give birth amidst the abundance of water and vegetation.
April marks the end of the wet season, with rainfall tapering off and landscapes gradually drying up. This transitional period offers a unique blend of verdant landscapes and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities before the onset of the dry season.
Tumblr media
Choosing the Best Time for Your Botswana Safari:
When planning your Botswana safari, several factors come into play, including weather, wildlife sightings, and personal preferences. Here are some key considerations to help you decide the best time for your African adventure:
Wildlife Migration: If witnessing the iconic migrations of Botswana's wildlife is a priority, consider visiting during the dry season when animals congregate around water sources, offering unparalleled viewing opportunities.
Birdwatching: For bird enthusiasts, the wet season from November to April is ideal, as migratory birds flock to Botswana's wetlands, adding vibrant splashes of color to the landscape.
Photography: Whether you're an amateur or seasoned photographer, Botswana offers endless opportunities to capture stunning images. The dry season, with its clear skies and sparse vegetation, is ideal for photography, especially for capturing wildlife against the backdrop of dramatic sunsets.
Personal Comfort: Consider your tolerance for heat and humidity when planning your Botswana safari. While the dry season offers cooler temperatures, the wet season brings relief from the scorching heat but higher humidity levels.

*Coruscant, commando barracks*
Fixer, Sev and Scorch looked up from their game of Sabacc when Boss entered the barracks, a holopad in his hands. He cleared his throat loudly, setting the holopad down.
“Bacara and his boys need our help. Apparently they’re in a tough situation.” Boss spoke as he sat down beside Sev, glancing around the table. Sev sighed and began to clean up the game, all the brothers grabbing their winnings. They were playing for snacks instead of money.
“We leave in an hour boys. I know this is sudden but Bacara specifically requested us. He desperately needs us. This is nothing like Mygeeto when they wanted us to scout out and prepare the battlefield. This is a far worse situation. I’ll explain on the way there. Until then, pack up Delta’s.” Boss’s words were strong and serious, he almost seemed on edge about this mission. This Delta’s grew instantly anxious by just Boss’s body language alone.
Scorch tried to lighten the mood, “So no bank robbing with Sergeant Vau and the Strill this time around?” Boss shook his head as he stood, “I’m afraid not Scorch.”
Within thirty minutes they were all packed up and ready to go, Boss silent and tense. He was setting the others on edge, and it was finally beginning to get to Sev. “Will you just go ahead and tell us? You’re grating on my nerves.” Boss glanced his way as he put a crate in the cargo hold of the small ship they’d be taking.
“Once we get moving I’ll tell you. We’re in a time crunch right now.” Sev only huffed at Boss’s words and stomped onto the ship.
The ship was a Corellian G9 Rigger-class light freighter. It was one they had stolen on a job a little while back. The Delta’s had fallen in love with the ship, and they customized it a bit so it was more their style. They also added a few more guns on it as well. They called the old silver ship Susie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Fifteen minutes later*
Fixer and Sev piloted the ship as Boss and Scorch sat behind them, all four armored up and far from relaxed. Once they jumped into hyperspace all three brothers turned to look at Boss, their gazes would burn a hole into Boss if they stared any harder.
“There was a distant transmission on some shithole planet in the outer rim, I think the name was Tarchceakeue…So, the Republic decided to send the Galactic marines in. Only because the surface of the world is plagued often by harsh thunderstorms and has a fuck ton of caves. Also it’s almost always nighttime there, dark as fuck for hours upon hours. The star is far away and the four moons do almost nothing for light.” He paused to clear his throat. ”We don’t know if anyone lived there, at least in the way of intelligent life. But they still wanted to get someone down there to check if it was friendly or possibly Separatist. Since the transmission was impossible to decode, it was better safe than sorry for them.” Boss shifted in his seat and continued.
“Well they came across these massive eggs in a cave and well…..Things crawled out of them. Fixer remember the hand looking creature we saw in R’tka’s ship? Yeah well those things jumped out. If it wasn’t for the helmets they would have attached to the faces of the marines. The ones they didn’t kill scurried off…..” Boss paused, resting his hands on his armored thighs, waiting to see if Fixer had a reply. All Fixer could do was mumble a curse.
Boss continued, “But what was worse was a few men getting dragged off deeper into the massive cave system by something. No one saw what dragged them off, just shadows and noises. Whatever it was though? It kept them alive…..” Boss looked at his brothers, all cursing and shifting uncomfortably.
Boss continued, “Anyways, later whenever a brother took off his helmet a hand looking creature would stalk him and come out of nowhere, attaching to his face. They currently have six men unconscious with one hand like creature stuck to them each.”
The Delta’s were silent as Boss continued, his accent thickening with his anxiety. “Oh and these hand looking fuckers? They bleed acid. Acid boys. There is no way for them to get off the faces of these brothers without killing them. One is dead from medics trying.”
Fixer shifted and rested his arms on his knees,  “What do they want us to do?” Boss sighed and looked towards the floor, “Help eradicate these eggs I suppose. And whatever may be dragging these men off into the shadows. They’re losing men rapidly and even the fucking Jedi is spooked, Bacara wants us there for some extra insurance I guess.” Fixer nodded at Boss, not very happy with that answer.
Scorch and Sev glanced at one another before Scorch spoke up, “Maybe R’tka could help us? He obviously knows what these things are!” Sev nodded along with Scorch’s words.
“That may not be a bad idea….” Boss spoke, glancing towards Fixer.
*A few hours earlier, the planet of Tarchceakeue(Which translates to Dark Place Of Caves)*
“I believe we need to call in backup sir.” Bacara spoke, his helmeted gaze on Ki-Adi-Mundi. The jedi didn’t say anything at first, his eyes closed and his arms behind his back. His Jedi robes were soaked through by the cold rain, but he paid no mind at all.
They were standing in their little makeshift base, which wasn’t far from a large cave mouth. Troopers sat and paced around them, the nerves in the area almost buzzing in the air. Bacara shifted his footing and glanced towards his men, all of them looking towards him with anxiousness in their body language.
“I agree.” Mundi spoke, his voice as soft as ever. “I thought we were coming here to possibly save lives….But all we have done so far is lose them.” Bacara nodded, his gaze going towards his mud soaked boots.
“We must eradicate these creatures sir. I know you’re not too keen on that option but I believe it is all we have left……We can’t just leave this place with it being this hostile. It could claim more lives or the Separatists could get ahold of it. Possibly weaponizing these creatures.” Bacara moved to stand in front of his general, the Jedi finally opening his eyes. The cold rain pelted them both, the water almost silver in the weak light of the four moons. Night lasted far too long on this planet…….
“I agree with you Commander. These hand-like beasts…..They feel off in the force. The ones we didn’t see in the caves even more so…The intelligence ...The darkness. It’s horrifying.” His eyes locked with Bacara’s visor and the clone nodded.
A medic, named Ket, walked up to them then, “Sir I truly believe you should wear a mask or something. Possibly a rebreather. Just anything to keep these things from getting you too. We already have six men in comas, one dead, and a few…missing…. we can’t lose you as well.” Mundi nodded at that, following the medic into one of the three large first aid tents.
Bacara followed them, “Explain to the general how these hand looking fuckers are working in the bodies Ket” The clone medic nodded at his commander, “Well sir they’re keeping these men alive and in perfect condition. It’s breathing for them….feeding them…..It’s keeping them alive. I even think the creature is altering their DNA, but we don’t have the equipment here to check. I’m a field medic, not a scientist after all…..So I have no idea why it's doing this,” Ket spoke as he began to dig through a box of supplies
“Odd…..Each of you men have your own signature in the force…But these men with the aliens attached. Something is very off.” Mundi’s voice was soft and calm, but laced with enough concern to spook Bacara.
“I’ll call in the Delta Squad, sir.” Bacara spoke, Ki-Adi-Mundi nodding, “Good. Make it quick, they need to get here as soon as possible.” He spoke as Ket handed him the rebreather, Mundi putting it on to protect his mouth and nose.
Bacara stepped out of the tent and looked out at the horizon. The rough mountains and canyons full of caves were everywhere, the faint moon light making the black and gray rocks shine in the rain. Bacara sighed and cursed, pulling out his long range transmitter.
Human skills are composed of sequences of individual actions performed with utmost precision. When occasional errors occur, they may have serious consequences, for example, when pilots are manually landing a plane. In such cases, the ability to predict an error before it occurs would clearly be advantageous. Here, we asked whether it is possible to predict future errors in a keyboard procedural human motor skill. We report that prolonged keypress transition times (KTTs), reflecting slower speed, and anomalous delta-band oscillatory activity in cingulate-entorhinal-precuneus brain regions precede upcoming errors in skill. Combined anomalous low-frequency activity and prolonged KTTs predicted up to 70% of future errors. Decoding strength (posterior probability of error) increased progressively approaching the errors. We conclude that it is possible to predict future individual errors in skill sequential performance.
