Marooned: Chapter 13
Kid x FemReader x Killer
Warnings: None
An Eyeful
The pieces of Killer's mask came together easily enough in the soft dandelion glow of your power. You didn't have all of the pieces, but there were enough that your power could fill in the gaps. If you didn't have any pieces, or you just had a handful, your power couldn't recreate the object. Something near-complete could be fixed. That was what you had figured out so far, in any case. Without Kid being able to snatch you off the deck, you got your duties done and had free time, which meant you could, at last, restore Killer's helmet.
The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon. No one was in the mess hall when you walked through, Mini on your heels. Muted clangs could be heard the closer you got to the kitchen. You motioned for Mini to stay out of the kitchen. Compromising sanitary conditions was not on your agenda. The first mate was busy making breakfast for everyone. Clearing your throat to get Killer's attention, "Hey."
Killer looked over his shoulder, "Mornin, ... I don't even know what your name is."
You shrugged. "It doesn't matter. I'm not a permanent addition." Killer had narrowed his eyes at that under his old mask. Leaning against the counter, you continued. "Kid calls me Rotten." Killer turned his attention back to cooking, letting silence fall over the room. "I, um, wanted to apologize for ... the other day."
No sound came out, but you saw Killer's shoulders move like he was laughing. "I know that was all Kid. Not your fault."
"Yeah, well," you pushed his fixed helmet across the counter that was between you. "Here." Killer turned quickly at the familiar sound of his helmet clattering on the wood. He grabbed it and turned his face away from you to swap it for the old one. Must be force of habit. You had already seen his face... amongst other things.
"Oh! Thank you. I'll have to tell Kid he doesn't have to bother with making a new one."
"I don't know why you wear that. I mean, look at me. My face is half melted and you're... not... ugly." You tried your best not to outright hit on him, kinda doing it in spite of that. You hoped your face wasn't red even though you swear the back of his neck turned red when you said it. Killer didn't say anything. "Not that it doesn't also look good on," you over-corrected trying not to offend him and accidentally hit on him again. Changing the subject, you went to see what he was doing, "Do you need help with anything? You seem like you're feeling back to normal."
"I am." Killer glanced towards the door. "Your friend can't be in here."
For a second you didn't know what he was talking about and then you saw the front half of a snout sticking through the saloon doors with stubby legs poking out the bottom. "Sorry. I'll get out of your hair." You started to leave.
"Hey," Killer called. "I like what you've done with my shirt." You had been wearing it with one of Heat's old corsets over it, which served two purposes: keeping your boobs in place and giving you a shape.
Wire had been harder on you and the other rookies than he normally was, making some of you go back over places that were already cleaned. It wasn't until later that you had learned that Kid wanted to celebrate Killer being back and the addition of a doctor to the crew. You started to worry that you were going to be held captive here. Worse, why had you been cleaning for your own party!? You supposed it was only fair since Killer was cooking for his own party, too.
To your relief, the girls had kidnapped you away to the women's quarters towards the end of the day, Quincy saying something about you should look nice at your party. Since you stayed in the infirmary, you only hung out with them during meals or on deck. They were nice, but there was no point making friends if you would be gone soon. They unlaced your corset, pulled your shirt over your head, temporarily blinding you, and dragged you into the baths. They scrubbed you down thoroughly while you complained that you could wash yourself, some of them snickering when they saw the bruising fingerprints on your hips and, as it turns out, Kid's lipstick must be longwear. After that, they sat you butt ass naked on the floor of their quarters while they decided what to do.
"You can't wear that shirt any more. It's crusty and I don't even want to know what the crust is," Quincy chastised.
You frowned. "It's all I have!" Your arms covered your chest. "Kid gave me a bunch of hooker clothes to choose from. I'm not trying to flash the entire crew."
"So just some of us then?" Dive teased.
A girl with a mohawk, named Emma, brought out a pile of clothes. "We have a free for all pile. Kid knows that."
I'm going to kill him. I really am. "You don't say." Your frown deepened.
They giggled. "Sorry. Maybe we should have stepped in." Quincy halfway apologized. "You were such a good distraction for him though, it made our lives easier... and quieter."
You rolled your eyes, but that gave you an idea. "Make me the biggest distraction you possibly can." That's how you would get back at Kid. It wasn't going to end well for you in the long run most likely, though any chance to see him drool or beg, and you would take it. "Is he always like this? I mean before I was here, did any of you...?" You didn't finish your question when you saw the look they were giving you.
"Ew, no. He's our boss." Dive fake gagged.
Quincy and Emma were digging through the pile of clothes, periodically taking something out and holding it up to you. "I'm not saying we don't have a little fun on the ship, but Captain and Killer are kind of off-limits. Not as a rule, just weird to sleep with the boss, especially when you know him as a person." Quincy added, "No offense."
"Yeah, plus Quincy has a huge crush on-." Quincy shoved a sock into Dive's mouth to shut her up.
She turned back to what she was doing. "We aren't talking about that, Dive." Dive stuck her tongue out at the ginger, when she was able to get the sock out of her mouth. "We stop a lot. The crew, including Captain, usually indulge themselves at the local brothels if they feel like it. Killer mostly supervises the rest of us while Kid is off doing gods know what."
Dive jeered, "And sometimes Killer supervises the captain doing gods know what." Some of the girls shot her a look. "What?! We all know it. No one is judging."
Emma held up a dress the color of old blood. "What about this one?"
Quincy grabbed it from her hands and did an excited bounce. "This is perfect! And I think I have lipstick to match." She tossed it over your head. "Put it on and stand up." She darted off to get, presumably, the lipstick.
You slid it on, unimpressed. "It's kind of baggy." Emma tugged it around so that you were wearing it properly. "Still not better." It was an off-shoulder type of top portion, with a slit down the middle, that could be tied to secure it from flapping open. The sleeves on it started halfway down your shoulder, draping down your arms. Emma tied the front so that it stayed on over your breasts. The slit created a little peekaboo window in the front. You knew that could be dangerous. One tug of the cord would undo the bow Emma made and your boobs would be bare to the wind, and you knew Kid would love that. You still couldn't see the vision. There was no shape at all to the fabric that brushed your ankles. You looked like a red tent. Quincy came back with something leather in her hand. Her arms snaked around your middle, fastening a black leather corset belt tight to your waist. It sat just above your hips and went up underneath your breasts, accentuating the shape of both. Oh. It didn't really support your boobs but it did push them up a smidge, enough to where you didn't feel like they were sagging. Looking into the girls' full-length mirror, you almost didn't recognize yourself. You couldn't tell if it was the illusion of the cinched waist or the fact that you had actually been eating enough to put weight on, but you were closer to your normal curvy body-type that you had been when you first came on board. You looked good. Sinful even. High-heeled black leather ankle boots to match the belt were being shoved at you before you knew Quincy had scurried away to grab them.
She looked you up and down before whistling. "Eustass better give me a raise for this." She pushed you to sit in one of the chairs scattered around the room so she could paint your face more easily. "Not that you didn't look good before, but now you look like a woman." Quincy snapped at Dive then pointed at your hair. Dive set to work brushing it into a half-up braided look. When Quincy got to the right side of your face, she took the eye patch away. You subconsciously gripped the fabric of the dress with white knuckles while she worked. "You okay?"
When you saw where she was looking, you released your grip. "Yeah. It's fine." You struggled to keep your mind off the feeling of her touching your skin.
"What happened?" Her voice had a tinge of pity, no, empathy. "I mean you don't have to say. Sorry I'm being nosey."
She had you in a vulnerable state, being so kind, and making you feel like a whole person again. "It's a long story. I got in over my head, made some powerful people mad, and got punished for meddling."
"Didn't you have a fake eye?" Dive chimed in.
You nearly choked on your spit. "Oh...uh." Your chest felt hot and you shifted your weight. "Kid... is holding onto it."
"So he must have been in the women's showers because it rolled under the door, huh?" Now you really wanted to slide through a crack in the floor.
"Dive, quit." Quincy made a face and shook her head. "He's terrible. He's my captain, but he's terrible." Quincy cleaned your lipstick up with her fingernail along the edges.
You shrugged. "I... don't really mind. At least he's hot." That earned you a chorus of disagreement. "What!?" Obviously, they didn't think the same as you.
Emma cackled and helped you up from your seated position as the other girls started shoving you out. "You're all done. Get out of here, captain-fucker," Emma smacked your ass and shoved the eyepatch into your hand on the way out.
Great. I'm either 'Rotten' or 'captain-fucker'. You should just tell them your real name at this point. It would be less painful. The eyepatch was really cramping the vibe of your outfit, so you went back to the infirmary with a plan. A lot of the things you discovered about your devil fruit were by accident. At first you thought it could only heal, then when you realized you could fix things that weren't flesh, you thought it might just restore things to their original states. That wasn't quite it either. As long as you had enough materials, you could transform them into what you wanted them to be. It just so happened that in the beginning, you had wanted your flesh to be healed or your shirt to be repaired, so you started calling your devil fruit: The Fix-Fix Fruit. Technically, by changing something's form, you were still fixing it; you were fixing it in a way to suit you. Setting the eyepatch down, you rifled through the cabinets for old or empty glass bottles. When you had a few in front of you, you put your hands around them. With eyes clenched tight, a picture in your mind, the bottles were bathed in a gentle glow, slowly taking the shape of a small sphere. Focusing hard for the next part, the clear glass became opaque, nearly white, a dot of color bloomed from the center until it matched your Y/E/C iris. The lid of your good eye lifted cautiously. It looked nearly identical to what was lost. Washing it off, you separated the eyelids on the right and popped it in, then used the reflection in a metal medical instrument to make sure it moved appropriately. The sight in front of you, though distorted through the bend in the metal, was you. The you from before this life.

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
—T. S. Eliot, “The Hollow Men”
“I’m scanning at least four Venators in various stages of decommissioning,” Cerra said. “This one, near the equator, is still mostly intact. Probably our best bet for a functional pod.”
“Planetary security looks tight,” Echo said. “And there’s an Imperial outpost under construction. Looks like the Empire wants to oversee the Scrapper Guild in person here. If they spot us, it will complicate the mission.”
“Got a better option?” Cerra asked.
“No,” he conceded. “I don’t suppose I do.”
“Then let’s hope they don’t spot us.”
Entering atmosphere was bumpy as hell, and the sub-light drive was still making that disconcerting racket, but despite Echo’s pessimism, their shuttle went undetected. He flew low over the Venator, scouting for a landing zone that was at least somewhat secure.
“Any chance you can put us down on the flight deck?” Cerra asked.
“Negative,” Echo replied. “It’s blocked by debris.”
“Figures,” she sighed.
“There,” Echo said after a few moments of searching. “Plenty of cover, not too far from the Venator.”
He landed the shuttle as Cerra readied the cargo floater. Echo exited first, scanning for hostiles before motioning her forward.
“On the plus side, the shuttle blends in with the rest of the junk,” Cerra muttered.
They moved as quickly as possible with the unwieldy cargo floater, keeping a wary eye for Scrapper Guild members. The path was rough and littered with sharp, twisted durasteel fragments and shards of broken transparisteel. Cerra wore sturdy work boots and durable clothing, and she had a blaster strapped to her thigh, but Echo hated how vulnerable she appeared without armor or a helmet. If she slipped and fell, she could easily sever an artery in this scrapheap. He resolved to help her get her gear in order before the next time she went offworld.
They picked their way stealthily to the massive ship, and once aboard, made their way through the shadowy corridors. Cerra seemed to know exactly where she was going, and Echo realized she must have spent a significant amount of time on a Venator. The ships were confusing to navigate even when they were powered up and illuminated, and based on the amount of dust and refuse that littered the passageways, this one hadn’t been operational in a long time.
When they finally reached the med bay, Cerra dropped her satchel and got to work while Echo stood guard.
“Better make sure this thing actually works before I tear it out,” Cerra said.
“I hope you don’t need me to restore power to the ship,” Echo said, remembering Bracca. “I’m not making that mistake again.”
“Rex warned me,” Cerra said. “I brought an auxiliary power unit. It doesn’t have enough juice to actually run the pod, but I can at least make sure it’ll turn on.”
She connected a cable to her small power unit, and pumped her fist in victory when the screen flickered to life.
“Wizard,” she mumbled, disconnecting the cable and immediately beginning the complicated process of uninstalling the pod. She worked in efficient silence, stopping occasionally to consult a datapad, and within an hour, they loaded the surgical pod onto the cargo floater and began their return journey to the shuttle.
“I need to make a detour,” Echo said as they approached the armory.
Cerra nodded and moved to guard the entrance, blaster ready. Echo quickly found what he was searching for, extracted it, and returned to the cargo loader. Cerra didn’t question him once he was back, merely resumed her rapid progress. With the cargo floater fully loaded, it was trickier to get out of the Venator than it had been to get in, and Cerra lost her footing, tumbling down the hull and slamming to the ground.
Echo cursed and ran to help her. “You good?”
“Yeah, all good,” she said. “Gloves are toast, though.”
She stripped off the mangled gauntlets. They had, fortunately, protected her hands from being cut when she scrambled for purchase on the jagged piles of scrap, but in their present state, they would only serve to hamper her dexterity.
“Better not fall again,” she said with a shrug.
As the shuttle came into view, Echo spotted movement and froze.
“We’ve got a problem,” he said grimly. “Scrappers have found the shuttle.”
“I guess the camouflage wasn’t as good as I thought,” Cerra said. “How many?”
“Three at least. We need to get rid of them before they call for backup.”
Cerra craned her neck to see around the pile of rubbish where they were hiding. “Damn. It’d be nice to have a sniper right about now.”
Echo chuckled drily. “Yeah. Ready?”
“Say the word, boss.”
“Go.”
They got as close as they could before they broke cover and fired on the scrappers. They stunned the three they could see, and Echo ran to secure the ship while Cerra retrieved the cargo floater. As he powered up the shuttle, he could see her running full tilt toward him, pushing the cumbersome lift ahead of her. Just when he began to think they’d managed to make a clean break, he saw a flash in his peripheral vision, and a shot blasted into the floater as a scrapper opened fire on Cerra from their vantage point inside the hulk of a derelict freighter. Cerra ducked behind the surgical pod and returned fire, and Echo ran to back her up, cursing. He laid down cover fire as she wrangled the floater up the shuttle ramp, and as soon as she slapped the control to close the ramp, he leapt back into the pilot’s seat and took off.
The shuttle jostled from the impact of blaster bolts as the scrapper continued firing, but within seconds, they were out of range. Cerra secured the cargo as Echo piloted them out of atmosphere, and as soon as they were clear of the planet’s gravity well, they jumped to hyperspace.
It was the middle of the night when they arrived at the repair shop, but Gregor was waiting on the landing platform outside the garage. As they disembarked, he sent Echo a casual salute and handed Cerra a cup of caf.
“Did I ever tell you you’re my favorite commando?” she asked, gulping the hot liquid as though it were life itself.
“I think I’m the only commando you know,” Gregor chuckled.
“Still my favorite,” she said. “Ugh, I can’t wait to shower. That planet was disgusting.”
“I’m afraid it’ll have to wait,” Rex said. “The timeline for Fireball’s extraction just got a lot tighter. We need to finalize our plan tonight and move out in the morning.”
Cerra shrugged. “Your call, Cap. You’re the one who has to smell me.”
As Cerra walked into the garage, Gregor narrowed his eyes at her. “You’re injured.”
“It’s nothing,” she said.
Echo glanced at her and realized she was hunching slightly to the side as though to protect her ribs, and he cursed himself for not seeing it sooner. There was no blaster wound, so she must have hurt herself when she slid off the hull of the Venator. Gregor arched a disbelieving eyebrow and strode directly to the kitchen, rummaging through the cabinets until he found a small medkit.
“Let me see,” he ordered.
“Bossy,” Cerra grumbled, but she shed her jacket and sat obediently on the sofa.
Gregor peeled her shirt up her torso, and Echo turned away to give her privacy. Still, he heard Gregor’s hiss.
“Karking hell, Cerra.”
“It looks worse than it is,” she said.
“Really? Because it looks like you got drop-kicked all the way to Karthon and back. What happened?”
“I fell off a spaceship like a kriffing idiot,” she said. “Are we going to get this mission briefing started, or are we all just going to stand around yammering about nothing?”
Rex frowned. “Don’t you want to wait until Gregor finishes with the bacta?”
“I want to take a farking shower,” she snapped, and despite himself, Echo glanced at her, surprised by the sharpness in her tone.
Gregor worked quickly, but it was obvious that Cerra was in a considerable amount of pain. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and her clenched fists shook as they rested on her knees.
“Almost finished,” Gregor murmured quietly.
“Good,” she said as her voice broke.
“Does it hurt when you breathe?” She merely shrugged in response, and Gregor gave her an impatient look. “I need to know if you cracked any ribs.”
“Why? Nothing you can do for that anyway,” she said.
“I can put you on light duty,” Rex said.
Cerra shot him an irate glare. “Nope, doesn’t hurt to breathe. In fact, I feel great. Never been better. Can we please, please get started?”
“Fine,” Rex sighed as he began to outline the plan of attack.
Gregor finished with the bacta as Rex spoke, then put away the medkit and quickly returned to the sofa. As he sat, he gave Cerra’s hand a little squeeze, and she leaned against him, resting her head on his shoulder as she closed her eyes. Echo would have thought she had fallen asleep, except she occasionally asked a clarifying question or commented on the plan.
As Rex wrapped up the briefing, he said, “It’s vital that we remove Fireball’s chip as soon as possible, so Cerra will remain here and get the surgical pod operational. Any questions?”
Gregor and Echo shook their heads. Cerra watched Rex with an unreadable expression. When nobody spoke up, Rex dismissed them all with orders to get some sleep. Gregor went to the barracks, while Echo headed for the refresher, just as desperate for a shower as Cerra. As he left, he overheard her speak to Rex in a low voice.
“Can I have a word?” she asked.
The two disappeared into the small office at the back of the garage, and Echo took the longest shower of his life, reveling in the luxury of hot water. As much of his life as he’d spent on starships, he was accustomed to the efficiency of sonic showers, but there was no way in hells that he would opt for the sonic when a real shower was available. By the time he finished, he was relaxed and bone-weary, and he headed straight for the barracks.
A low, strained conversation emanated from behind the office’s closed door. Echo didn’t intend to eavesdrop, but his cranial implant amplified Cerra and Rex’s voices as they argued.
“—can handle himself. He has more training than any of us,” Rex said.
“It’s not about his ability,” Cerra said. “It’s about keeping him alive. He’s been through enough.”
Echo slowed to a halt. Were they arguing about him? Did Cerra not think he was capable? He frowned. She hadn’t said anything during their mission to Karthon, and she’d seen him in action. He could take care of himself, and he didn’t need her interfering with Rex’s plans.
“We need his infiltration skills,” Rex said.
“Dank farrik, Rex, you saw the extent of his brain damage when AZI removed his chip. Another hit could kill him.” Cerra kept her voice down, but her distress was evident.
Gregor, Echo understood suddenly. Cerra was worried about Rex’s plan to use him on the extraction team. Echo hadn’t realized how severe the injuries hiding beneath the commando’s irreverent disposition were.
“He knows it’s dangerous,” Rex argued.
“He doesn’t care about the danger because he trusts you so much that he’ll do anything you order,” Cerra said. “Use Echo on the infil team instead. Please, Rex. He’s just as skilled as Gregor, and he’s not at risk in the same way.”
“You know Gregor will never let me ground him,” Rex said.
“I’m not asking you to ground him. I’m asking you to assign him to pilot the ship instead of being part of the extraction team.”
“Cerra, I will protect him,” Rex began.
“Like you protected Fives?” Her voice cut like a vibroblade.
Despite himself, Echo gasped. Rex was silent.
“I’m sorry,” Cerra said after a tense moment. “That was out of line.”
“No,” Rex replied. “You’re right. I’ll put Gregor on pilot duty.”
After a long pause, Cerra finally responded. “Thank you.”
Echo realized he’d been listening much longer than he’d intended to. Shaking himself, he hurried to the barracks and climbed into his bunk. It was some time before Cerra entered, and Echo assumed she must have finally gotten her shower. She moved silently through the shadowed room and climbed into her own bunk. She must have been exhausted, because within a few minutes, he could hear her breath even out as she dropped into slumber.
He was jealous of her ability to fall asleep so easily. He’d never slept well, even before Skako Minor, and his insomnia had only gotten more severe after his experience with the Techno Union’s particular brand of hospitality. Still, he must have dozed off at some point, because quite suddenly, his eyes snapped open at the sound of a distressed whimper.
The sound was barely audible. Echo probably wouldn’t have even heard it if he hadn’t been so restless already. The cry came again, muffled and indistinct, and Cerra thrashed in her bunk.
Gregor moved with such impressive stealth that Echo didn’t even realize he’d gotten up until he heard the commando quietly murmur words of comfort under his breath.
“Gregor?” Cerra asked in a hushed, broken voice.
“Shh, I’m here,” he whispered.
The bunk creaked, and Echo heard the soft rustle of bedding being rearranged.
“I’ve got you,” Gregor said softly. “You’re safe. I’m not going anywhere.”
Cerra shuddered, and a muffled sob followed by stifled, gasping breaths rang out through the barracks. Echo could tell that she was trying to stay quiet by pressing her hands over her mouth.
“It’s all right,” Gregor soothed. “All the way out, remember? One, two, three, four, five. You’re all right, sweetheart, I have you. Now breathe in. One, two, three, four, five.”
Echo had an uncomfortable sense of voyeurism, as though he were intruding on an intensely private moment, but there was nothing to be done. Gregor continued to quietly coach Cerra until she brought her breathing under control. Once again, the barracks descended into silence, and at last, Echo fell asleep. When he awoke early the next morning, Gregor and Cerra were still curled up together in Cerra’s bunk, fast asleep. Gregor was lying, fully clothed, on top of the blanket, with Cerra’s body tucked securely against him and his arms wrapped around her.

Find Peace in the Changing Colors
Tumblr media
(not my gif)
pairing: jake ‘hangman’ seresin x fem pilot!simpson!reader (call sign: sunset)
characters: jake seresin, fem!reader, the dagger squad (mention but speak very little if at all), beau simpson, male!oc- Brent ‘Cash’ Werth (in a flashback)
warning: angst, death, blood, description of injuries, language, dogfighting (not super well written), i’m sorry if i missed any
word count: ~4050 (you guys know me by now)
a/n: because of the topic of death and injuries reader discretion is advised but i am going to go ahead and say this is 18+ and MDNI !
also this is a little jump-cutty but its to give back ground info with going too in depth
and i cried while writing it if that tells you anything
quick summary: jake seresin knows he an asshole, he has his reasons. he uses ‘hangman’ as a way to protect his heart. but what happens when you work your way through the cracks?
*****
Hangman knew his relationship with Rooster was strained before the Uranium Mission. That much was obvious when they were ‘reunited’ at the Hard Deck.
“Hangman, the only place you’ll lead anyone is an early grave.” The statement cut through Jake Seresin like a knife, but he didn’t show it. Played it off like it wasn’t a massive reason he was an asshole, to keep people away and not let them anywhere near his heart.
Because the last time he did that, it ended with him smashing his wings into a casket that held one of his closest friends. It was the reason he flew alone.
Brent Werth, call sign Cash, was Hangman’s backseater. He was like a brother to Hangman. Cash brought Hangman home for the holidays because Jake had a confusing relationship with his parents. Brent was the one that pushed Jake to restore that relationship and get close with them again.
His death was ruled accidental, despite it being a complete lapse in Jake’s judgment.
They were flying a mission with Coyote, routine, in-and-out. It was simple. Until it wasn’t.
Hangman and Coyote were ambushed by bandits and they split. They both made it out, but Jake was leaking oil and they were too far from the carrier.
Cash suggested an emergency landing, knowing Hangman was competent enough to do it and that they were in friendly territory.
But he went down too fast and his landing was too rough. It knocked them unconscious; when Jake woke he was virtually unharmed. However, Cash had been pinned by the dash, busted metal puncturing his femoral artery.
Hangman tried to free him but it didn’t work. Jake fought and fought for it to come loose, but it barely budged. “Hangman! Hang- Jake, Jake… Stop. It’s not gonna work.” Jake felt tears sting his eyes, “No, Cash. I’m getting you out of here. You’ve got a nephew that’s really excited to meet you.”
When Brent’s eyes began to close Jake panicked, “Cash! Brent, open your damn eyes!” Brent’s eyes peeled open. “Hey, there ya are.”
But it didn’t last long, once the rescue chopper landed and Jake took his eyes off Brent for two seconds; Cash let himself go, knowing that he was already gone. He couldn’t feel his legs anymore, and the blood was pooling at his feet.
Jake would never forget that image, it was burned into his mind forever.
He made an oath to himself to never have a backseater again, and he made a silent promise to his heart to never be that close with anyone ever again.
Until you.
Y/N ‘Sunset’ Simpson. A girl that just wouldn’t put up with bullshit and wouldn’t allow him to close himself off.
You dug under the surface and allowed Jake to speak about his trauma from that day. Gave him a place to feel safe and like he did have to put up this facade anymore. You took him to the beach or a cliffside to just watch the sunset; it made you feel calm and safe so you thought it would work for him.
And he doesn’t think he could ever find the words to thank you for everything you’ve done for him.
He owed you his life.
And you owed him yours.
He saved your life and chalked himself an air-to-air kill.
******
Jake wasn’t sure when he fell in love with you but he knew he had to play it safe. Your father’s an Admiral and he didn’t want to get on his bad side.
But you knew exactly the moment you fell in love with Jake. And you weren’t going to let your father intimidate or threaten Jake.
When you wanted something you got it and Jake was willing to give it to you.
******
The squad got called in for another mission.
When Jake got the call, you got one right afterwards.
Both of you were nervous for this mission, but extremely excited for it at the same time. Especially you because you didn’t get called on the last mission due to you being out on medical leave for sprained wrist after an ejection.
But now it was time to get back in your plane and show Maverick what you could do.
*******
Despite them being permanently stationed in the North Island, not everyone got called back.
Phoenix, Bob, Fanboy, Payback, Rooster, Hangman, and yourself were a part of the selected to train.
The mission was dangerous, much like the last one. Drops from low altitudes and dog fights, tight turns and high speeds. The training was similar as well, with a few adjustments to accommodate the mission's needs.
But they were only sending two planes, with Maverick deciding who the best duo was.
And as training progressed, it was obvious who worked the best together.
Cyclone knew you were extremely capable of flying this mission. But he really didn’t want Maverick to pick you. It was selfish, but he didn’t care. You’re his child and he didn’t want to have to bury you.
He also knew that if you were paired with Hangman, you might think irrationally and do something Beau thought was extremely dangerous. And he knew Hangman would do anything for you.
*******
Hangman didn’t want Maverick to pair you with him, he knew that either one of you could die on this mission or both of you could die. You didn’t like the idea of you being paired either. Because, despite your promises to each other, you knew if it came down to it one of you would sacrifice yourself.
But you were too good of a team, and Maverick couldn’t risk the success of this mission.
****
Cyclone sighed, “Pick your team leader.” “Hangman.” You felt your heart speed up as you watched Jake look up and nod at Maverick. “And his wingman?” Maverick looked right at you. “Sunset.”
Your father tensed and made eye contact with you, “Okay. Take off is at 0800 tomorrow morning, be ready.” Both of you nodded at him and you were all dismissed.
******
It was late and you couldn’t sleep.
So you got up and went to get some water. Hoping that it would help to ease your nerves.
But when you walked into the kitchen area, you immediately clocked Hangman sitting on the small couch. “What are you doing up, Honey?” Jake asked, eyes softening at the look he saw on your face. “I could ask you the same, Baby.” He sighed and held his hand out. You took it and sat next to him.
“Talk to me, Y/N.” “I’m scared for tomorrow.” Jake brought you into his lap and you pressed your face into his warm neck, “It’s okay to be scared. I am too, but hey- we got picked because we make one hell of a team right?” You nodded, smelling his cologne and allowing it to calm you, “That we do, Jake. That we do.” He smiled and kissed the top of your head, taking an inhale of your apple scented shampoo.
You started to play with his fingers, “If anything happens tomorrow, I need you to know that I love you.” Jake tensed, he wished he could confidently say nothing would happen, but he knows that’s not true and you know that’s not true. “I love you too, Y/N. With everything I got.”
“Can we make a new promise?” Jake asked after a beat of silence. You sat up a little to look him in the eye and nodded. “If-”  He swallowed, “If anything does happen, can we promise not to blame ourselves? Because I know us and you know us.”
You lightly chuckled, “Don’t tell me you’re planning to die tomorrow, Seresin.” He shook his head, remaining serious, “No, but I just want the comfort of knowing…” He trailed off, not wanting to speak the words into existence. You swallowed and nodded, “Okay. I promise.” He pulled you in for a kiss, “I promise.”
******
The mission was a success! Everything went as smoothly as it could.
Maybe too smooth.
One the way back to the carrier, three blips appeared on the radar.
“Hangman? You seein’ this?” You asked, your eyes scanning the airspace around you. “I see ‘em. They’re coming in at our one o’clock. Still pretty far out.” You thought of an idea, “Comanche can we drop below radar? Maybe we can slide right under them until we’re in-”
That’s when the missile lock sounded in your cabin.
You looked down at your dash confused, “What the hell?” A forth blip had popped up behind you on your radar system. “Shit! Hangman-” “Evade Sunset!” You did just that, rolling to the left and deploying flares. “Dagger 2 defending!”
Circling, you got behind the bandit and used your guns to take out the plane's engines. “Splash one!” “Those three are comin’ in hot! We need to be ready, stay focused!” You confirmed his command and then chaos ensued.
*****
Back on the carrier, everyone was preparing for the worst.
Cyclone was trying his best to remain stoic in the command center. But it’s extremely difficult when he can hear both his daughter and her boyfriend trying not to panic and doing their best to make it home.
Rooster came over the radio, “Dagger Spare request to fly out for assistance.” Cyclone weighed his options, but he didn’t have time to really think about it. He shook his head. “Request for fly out denied.”
The pilot gritted his teeth, trying his best not to fly out anyway to help, because he was getting a serious case of deja vu.
****
You and Jake were nearing your last defenses.
Both of you were out of missiles, Jake was out of flares and you only had 1 round left. But it was two against 1.
“Sunny?” “Yeah Hangman?” “I’ve got an idea, but it’s a little crazy.” You rolled your eyes, dodging bullets at the same time. “When are any of your ideas sane?” “Sunset, I’m serious. This might be the only way out of this. But you can’t hate me for what I’m about to do.”
You tensed, his tone confirmed his words. “Hey, whatever it is- I trust you. Get us home, Hangman.” He sighed, “Thank you. Now we’re nearing friendly airspace, and we need to split up. He’s been on my ass, so he’s gonna follow me. I need you to try your best to shoot him down. Hopefully I can get across before anything happens.” You nodded, “Alright let’s turn and burn.”
You and Hangman split up, the bandit following Jake just like he planned.
Now, Jake had never disclosed to you that he was out of flares. He knew that if he voiced that, you would have never agreed to this plan. Jake wasn’t about to let you run the chance of dying because you trusted him and believed he would save you. Look where that got Cash.
He increased his speed, dodging and weaving bullets.
Hangman was making good time and you were in his ear talking to him, letting him know you were okay and to let him know when you were firing so he could avoid your bullets.
“I’m getting low Hangman, how close are you?” “Just a few more-”
An inconsistent ringing filled Jake’s cabin. “Fuck! He’s trying to get a lock!”
Your heart dropped, and you got a close as you could to the bandit on his tail, firing directly into his engines.
Unfortunately, before you could hit a critical part of his engine, he got a solid tone on Jake. “Shit!” You pressed harder on your guns, as if it would make them fire faster. But just as you manage to shoot him down, he got his shot off and fired his missile directly at Hangman.
“Jake!”
*******
Everything was blurry. Your senses were on overdrive.
Your head hurts. Your body hurts. The ringing in your ears wouldn’t go away. And the smell of burning jet fuel filled your nose.
It took a moment for you to remember what happened, and once you did you were running in the direction you saw Jake’s plane crash.
Your throat hurt by the time you reached the crash site.
“Jake! Jake! Ja-” You tripped over a branch but rolled right back up, throwing your helmet to the ground. “Jake!”
From what it looked like, Jake had hit the canopy of the trees and it slowed him down enough to not completely destroy the plane.
You went straight to the wreckage, looking for any sign of Jake and preparing yourself for what you were bound to find.
And when you did, you nearly collapsed.
A few feet away you saw the yellow on his helmet breaking up the mix of green and brown. You rushed over to move the debris off of him.
“Shit,” you hissed as the heat of the metal burnt your fingers a little. You dug into the damp, turned over dirt and used that to move the piece of metal. It didn’t even register that you shouldn’t have been able to lift it because your adrenaline was through the roof.
You turned Jake over, trying to get a view of his injuries. “Oh God, Jake… What happened up there?” Your hands twitched out to touch him, but you hesitate before finally resting your shaking hands on his torso and resting your forehead on his sternum.
There was no scream, no wail or cursing to deities that the love of your life was taken from you. But there were tears, sobs wracked your body as you started to break your promise.
If only you were fast enough. If only you were careful enough.
If only…
If you were better you could have saved him. If you were faster you would have been out of there before the other three bandits spotted you. If you were the bait, he wouldn’t be here.
You should have been better.
You lifted your head and turned your body so you could look at him one last time. His green eyes were closed and you wish you could have looked in them one last time. To memorize the patterns woven in them. The gold flakes that were scattered in them, the sea green that outline his irises.
Gently, you pulled off his helmet and tossed it to the side.
You ran a trembling hand through his hair. “Oh, Baby…” Your other hand came up to cup his jaw, your thumb grazing over the scar that was above his lip. “Fuck, Jake…” You situated his head in your lap, your mind in a totally other place as your fingers tried to memorize what his face felt like underneath them.
But when your fingers came to cup his neck, you felt it and it was like the whole world stopped.
There was a pulse. It was faint, but it was there.
Tears of relief flooded your eyes, and you tried to get him awake.
*******
When Jake’s eyes finally began to open, the ringing was the first thing he heard.
He thought for sure he was dead.
But then your voice broke through into his foggy mind. “Jake, Jake come on, Baby. Open your eyes, you’re safe. I’m right here.”
His eyes opened and met yours. “There ya are. Hi, Baby.” Your smile made his heart race, he assumed you felt it when he registered your fingers against his pulse point.
You slowed helped him into a sitting position and from there into a standing position.
“What happened up there cowboy?” Jake blinked, swallowing to lubricate his throat, “I was out flares, couldn’t defend myself.” He watched your face drop, paling slightly. “Why didn’t you tell me!?” “Because I knew you would be the bait.” You nodded, throwing your arms out to the side, “Yeah, because I had one round of flares left! Why wouldn’t you let me be the bate?!”
He squeezed his eyes shut, your shouting splitting his head. “Tell me Jake! Why would you do that!?”
“Because I couldn’t lose you too! Okay!” Jake finally snapped, causing you to step back a little.
He started to gesture wildly with his hands, ignoring the pain in his ribs, “I don’t care if it’s selfish! Because as long as you’re safe that means I did my job!”
That’s when it clicked.
His face dropped, “Why aren’t you on the carrier? What the fuck are you doing out here?” You scoffed, “You really think I was gonna just fly back to the carrier, not knowing for sure if you were dead or not!” “Where’s your plane?” You shrugged, “I don’t know, I ejected. With all the damage and speed stress I put on it, the engines failed. But I’m okay.”
Jake didn’t say a word as he pulled you in for a kiss. “God, you’re fucking crazy, Simpson.” You chuckled a little breathlessly, “You love it.” He kissed you again, “That I do.”
You threw his arm over your shoulder. “I landed in a clearing not too far from here. Let’s get out of here.” He nodded, “Do you have your transponder?” You nodded, “I think so.” Jake steady himself as you stepped back to look for it.
You held it up, turned it on, and both of you walked toward the clearing, grabbing your helmets on the way.
But the moment you turn your back to the plane, leaking reserve fuel ignites and causes an explosion.
*****
While the explosion wasn’t big enough to knock either of you unconscious, it stunned you for a few minutes.
You pushed the branches off of you and got up, coughing as dirt and smoke entered your lungs.
Jake did the same, tears filling his eyes at the pain in his ribcage. He heard you cough, “Y/N?” “Jake?” “Y/N, Y/N I’m here.” He grunted as he pushed himself off the ground to meet you halfway.
You embraced him, chuckling a little. “We can’t catch a break can we?” He buried his face into your neck, the arm not cradling his ribs tightening around you, “Are you okay?” You nodded, “Uh-huh. Yeah.” He released you and you nearly fell, but he was quick to steady you.
“Woah. Hey, we’re okay.” You giggled a little, “Yeah.” Jake met your eyes, “We’re okay, right?” He was trying his best to keep calm, for both of you. You pushed hair out of your face, “Yeah, yeah. Just comin’ off that adrenaline high, that’s all.” He nodded, “Me too. Me too. Let’s get to that clearing, okay Honey?” He took in a deep breath, “Aaaah, shit. I think my ribs are broken…”
You rubbed his back, “Come on. We’re gonna…. Gonna-” You swallowed, pausing to catch your breath. “Y/N?” You shook it off, “Let’s get the he-ell out of here, Jake.” He nodded and grabbed a hold of your arm to keep you steady.
Jake walked a few steps, but when you didn’t follow he stopped, “Y/N? Sweets, what’s wrong?” You swallowed, lifting your hand to wave it off, “I just- just let me catch-” You started shaking and Jake’s eyes widened as you began to fall to the forest floor, catching you just in time to keep your head from hitting the ground.
He pushed more hair out of your face, “What happened? Are you okay?” You nodded, but Jake could see the distant, glossy look cover your eyes. He fought back tears, but he smiled anyway to keep you calm. “Yeah, yeah, you’re okay. What happened?” You smiled at him, seemingly unaware of how fast your chest was moving up and down, “Just-” You swallowed, “Just need to catch my breath.” He nodded, tears slipping past his eyes, “Okay. Okay, yeah catch your breath. I’ll be right here. We got time. Just catch your breath and then the med chopper’ll get us out and we’ll get you some help, okay.”
Jake kissed your forehead, “You’re gonna be okay, just-”
That’s when he felt it.
He sat back and looked down, seeing crimson stains on the knees of his suit.
Jake looked back up at your face with wide, scared eyes before feeling at your back. When he pulled his hand away, it was covered in blood.
You noticed the fear on his face, “Are you okay? What happened?” Jake urgently spoke into his com system. You tried to sit up, but he eased you back, shaking his head, “Nothing happened. Nothing happened. You’re okay, you’re okay.”
You turned your head and looked past Jake, through the trees.
Jake watched a smile spread across your face and tears line your eyes. He tilted his head a little confused, but then you spoke.
“I.. I love sunsets…”
Jake choked out a sob, being able to see the reflection of the sunset in your eyes. “I know you do Baby.” You slowly turned back to look him in the eye, a shaky hand coming to rest on the side of his face, and he nuzzled into it. “Will you watch the sunset with me Jake?”
He nodded, wetting his lips and tasting the saltiness of his own tears, “Yeah, yeah of course I’ll watch it with you, my love.” He gently helped you into a sitting position and then sat behind you.
Jake held you in his lap and watched the sun set through the trees.
But kept his eyes on you more than he did the changing sky colors. He wanted to remember this look of sereness on your face, the look that he fell in love with.
You turned your head, “I love you, Jake.” “I love you too, Y/N.” “Kiss me?” He looked into your eyes, “We need to save your energy, Sunny.” “Please, Jake.” He frowned a little but realized that it may be his last chance to kiss you, ever. He nodded, a small smile on his face, “Come ‘ere, Darlin’.” You smiled and took a deep breath.
Once your lips met, you put everything you had into that kiss. His arms wrapped around you and held you close.
Jake pulled away when the pain in his ribs became too much. He rested his forehead on yours, eyes still closed. “I love you, Y/N. With everything I am. I don’t think I’d be the man I am today without you.” He gripped you tighter when you didn’t respond, “I need to know that you know that. Please, please, Y/N, just say something. Please…”
He finally opened his eyes, only to be met with your closed ones.
Squeezing his eyes shut, the tears began flowing freely, “No. No. No! Y/N, come on! Don’t do this to me! Don’t leave! I can’t lose you too. Please… God, please.” And the words Rooster told him nearly a year ago rang out in his head…
Hangman, the only place you’ll ever lead anyone is an early grave…
*******
A few months later, he was laying on his back in his truck bed in a pasture on his parents’ ranch in Texas.
Your dogtags dangled from his fingers and he talked to them.
“You know, I tried to turn in my wings after your funeral… But your father wouldn’t let me. Told that was the one thing you asked of him if this mission ever went south. ‘Make sure Jake doesn’t give up’.” He sobbed out a laugh, “You knew me better than anyone.”
He gripped the tags in his hand. “You shared your love of sunsets with me because you wanted to help me. You shared something so intimate and personal with someone that was trying to push you as far away as he could get you.”
“But you persisted and I don’t think I could ever thank you enough for that. For that annoying persistence, for your devotion.”
Jake took a deep breath, sitting up slowly and letting his feet dangle over his tailgate. “I’m gonna miss you a lot, Y/N. Miss your laugh, miss your touch, miss your energy.”
He looked up from his hands and saw possibly the most beautiful sunset he’d ever witnessed. And for a moment, it felt like you were there.
A watery smile spread across his face, “Hi, Sweetheart.”

would you mayhaps infodump about LC! lyrics? 👀👀 /nf
(I saw you on the anon game and am incredibly interested)
OOOOOOOOOH YESYESYESYES I WOULD LOVE TO INFODUMP ABOUT LOS CAMP LYRICS
okay okay so first of all. this band is so good. they have so many banger ass songs and that cannot be denied. HOWEVER in my heart To Tundra will always reign supreme. like holy shit. it's got lyrics like "meet me at st. nicholas among the oaks, behind the church that sway like pig-tailed girls as summer wind whistles around your bare-skin knees and the forsythia leaves" and "we take on the burden of all these sad-eyed children with lilies bunched in our hands" like. those lyrics are so visceral and potent they literally leave me with my mouth hanging wide open after i hear them. oh my GOD that song is magical
some of my other favorite songs lyrically is OBVIOUSLY tiptoe through the true bits. that's the song that whenever i hear it i have to stop literally everything i'm doing, turn up the volume as loud as it will go, close my eyes and just absorb the Vibes. it's so gorgeous AHHHHHH. the bit that makes my heart go !!!!!! is the part where it goes "the bed-spread decked in suns and moons and symbols of the star-signs, how you read how mine applied to how I would be sex-wise." like that paired with the little guitar picking up in the back and the drums kicking in are SO GOOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AND. IN MEDIA RES. that song changed my life genuinely. like WOW. the whole vibe of it, especially the end when the trumpets (i think they're trumpets at least) kick in and gareth goes "if you were given the option of dying painlessly in peace at 45 with a lover at your side, after a full and happy life, is this something that would interest you? would this interest you at all?" like WOW what an existential crisis moment while you feel like you're running through a rainy field. man that hits yknow
ALSO i am emotionally attached to Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #4. i dont know why but the first time i ever heard it my brain latched its claws onto it and now it wont fucking let go. so whenever i hear the guitar at the beginning i am Legally Obligated to belt out at the top of my lungs "I RESTORED YOUR MOTHER'S FAITH IN MEN WHILST BORING YOU TO DEATH LEFT NOTHING MORE THAN A CIRCLE OF STUBBLE RASH AROUND YOUR CHEST--"
AND!!!!!!!!! for flotsam also has a very special place in my heart. i love the lyrics in that one, particularly "summer of odd-numbered year" like. MY GUYS YOU ARE SO CREATIVE???? all of your football metaphors to describe your boredom and emotions. like i don't watch football but you go guys i think its so kickass. i love you los campesinos. also the bit where they go "flotsam, jetsam, and spindrift, all the girls i have loved, dumped to earth by a spendthrift, gilt angels from above" with the "aaaahhh" in the back and the very faint piano in the background that i can only hear when i'm listening to it with my gaming headphones on bc my gaming headphones have really good mid range. just AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
AND WHAT DEATH LEAVES BEHIND TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 fun little fact this was the first song that i listened to when i first decided to listen to their discography all the way through. and let's just say that was a VERY good start because i was very impressed right off the bat. like "i was the first match struck at the first cremation, you are my shallow grave, I'll tend you as a sexton, if you're the casket door that's being slammed upon me, i'll be a plague cross painted on your naked body" LIKE HOLY SHIT. THATS SO EVOCATIVE. HOW DO YOU USE SO MANY METAPHORS AND BIG WORDS. THEYRE SO GOOD AT WORDS. i love listening to this one because it is so lyrically complex and yet it all goes together so well auuugghhhhhhhh
also since i started university recently, hung empty rings very near and dear to my heart. like the bit in the bridge that goes "my vision is fading, it's blurry, there are fingerprints all over the sun, we're glad to be loved but we're lonely and we feel like we're the only ones." like. that's the experience of moving out right there!!! i don't know where the fuck i am and i'm so lonely but it feels so bright and new and cinematic. this song Gets me on the most fundemental level it feels so very College-Esque
ALSOOOOOOO she crows!!!!!!!!!!!11 i LOVE she crows. someone inject this song into my veins Right This Fucking Instant. i need to live and breathe this song right now. just the instrumentals combined with the anthemic feel of the song really seals the feeling of looking back on your life and all of your mistakes and acknowledging that all of them brought you to where you are now. especially the end bit, i don't know why, but when it goes "big tip for the pretty girl waiting the IHOP, these blank napkins/unwritten suicide notes, it's dark inside these eyelids, blacker than the ink (squid)" it really feels like the end of the day. these are the lyrics that buzz like caffiene in your veins as you sit outside a dutchbros at eleven pm surrounded by the only people you feel like you can be yourself around. it's the feeling of cold biting at your skin while your heart feels warm and full. it feels like an open finale, the first time you smile in a long time, an acceptance of the complex beauty of life, that unforgettable moment when you realize that you wouldn't trade who you've become for the world
and CODA A BURN SCAR IN THE SHAPE OF THE SOONER STATE. I LOVE CODA SO MUCH AGH. PERFECT CRYING IN THE SHOWER SONG. like the lyric "an artist's impression of the manhattan skyline" will get me fucking SOBBING immediately. it feels like watching the world move on without you, the world a blur as you crumple inward under the weight of your emotions, a collapsing star in an endless void. and then obviously "i can't believe i chose the mountains every time you chose the sea" WOAH the SYMBOLISM i will just pass away right here in my dormitory with my headphones on. no sorry professor i can't write my essay i am unwell about the romance is boring album again. sorry yeah i'll be unavailable for 3-5 buisness weeks
but uh. yeah. los campesinos amirite???????????

Class of Heroes AU: Plot Details
So I’ll probably never make a full fic of this, because I suck at writing real stories. but I wanted to give some plot in case someone wants to make a story of this. I plan to incorporate all the movies, and these are what I have so far. Thanks again to @imsparky2002 and @artzychic27 for giving me the inspiration for my AU and for their contributions! I hope you guys like this! I’m always open to ideas and Headcanons! Love and hugs!
Hercules: Comes in near the end, after the whole thing with the Sea Witch is dealt with and Ariel!Ondine can stay on land and they’re having the big battle with the villains. (Kim loses his strength due to a spell cast by whoever will be Maleficent in this universe, but Adrien sends out a healing wave with his power that restores it, as well as curing the others who were affected.) But before that happens, Ondine makes Meg’s sacrifice, meaning her spirit departs to the underworld. (Hear me out: Bob Roth as Hades. Tell me that’s not perfect.) So, Herc!Kim goes to confront his uncle-in-this-AU, but he’s not alone because the whole gang has his back! These crazy kids are storming the Underworld to get their girl back! So the whole Shabang happens, complete with Bob getting punched both times, ofc! (Denise tries to charge at Bob when he reveals that Kim will die in the river before reaching her. “YOU SON OF A BI-“) Everyone cries when they think both of them are gone…until Marc sees a bright golden glow. This ended up, of course, restoring Kim’s godhood, and everyone gets to go to Olympus. He gives it up to stay with his friends and his girl, and to keep helping people. YAY, big group hug! (After the kiss, obvi!) (Also, Bob getting his face punched in and then decked into a river full of dead souls. Just a happy thought to dwell on.😌)
Beauty and the Beast: XY (Gaston) confronts Juleka at her castle before the major battle, and almost kills her. Rose comes back after they had a falling out, inspiring Juleka to fight. All the fight stuff happens, she spares him, so on and so on. Rose calls out to her, and they’re reunited. This is where the twist happens. Rose sees XY approaching, and TAKES THE KNIFE FOR JULEKA. The act of true love breaks the curse, turning Juleka back to normal (though she chooses to keep her beast form), healing Rose, and changing Luka and everyone else back into people. Yay!
I have minor details for a few others. Adrien gets to have his “Did I mumble, FATHER?” Scene (He was stolen from his mothers, Emilie and Nathalie, the queens of Corona.) Mireille returns to the Pride Lands and fights her uncle after discovering he killed her mother, Aurore is able to stop her from killing him. Marc grew afraid of his powers by accidentally striking someone he cares about, idk who yet. That’s it for now!

Hello, big fan of your last quarantine party. If your looking for prompts here a spin on a common one. Crisis AU: Lena Luthor is the Paragon of Humanity, only it not Earth-38 Lena but one of your AU Lena's from another Earth (Paladin Lena, Sensate Lena, Potterverse Lena, etc). Bonus points if it that Lena that reborn in Earth-Prime instead of her Earth-38 counterpart.
A/N: Sensate!Lena for the win!
-----
Lena watches the anti matter wave swallow Earth-38. In the blink of an eye, the entire planet vanishes from the screen, but that isn't what stops the heart in her chest, freezing the breath in her lungs.
No. What makes the world stop is the sudden emptiness in her mind, the vacuum in her thoughts that is the absence of her cluster.
The shock of the severed bond makes the world spin around her. Her knees knock together, catching Supergirl's attention.
"Lena, it's okay, we'll fix it..."
The rest of her platitudes fall away as Lena's grip on reality falters, and she sinks into the nothingness.
Alone.
---
When she awakens, Kara is hovering next to her, perched anxiously on a stool beside the med bay recliner Lena rests in. But the physical nearness to another person does nothing to quash the deep isolation in Lena's chest.
Not one of them had made. None of her cluster survived.
She expects tears to rise, expects the tightness in her chest to resolve into a sob. But nothing comes. She's completely and utterly empty.
"Lena, are you--"
Ignoring the concern, Lena pushes out of the recliner and heads towards the door to the med bay as soon as she's on her feet.
"How do we fix this?"
---
By the time Lex shows up, Lena has nothing to react with. She sees her brother's smirking countenance, egging her to say something, but she remains silent. Not even the fact that her lack of reaction rankles him is enough to make her feel anything.
That doesn't keep him from negging her.
"Tell me," he says, sauntering into the lab the Legends have assigned them, "did any of your imaginary friends manage to evacuate? Or are you alone like the rest of us mere mortals--"
Without a word, Lena whirls and decks her brother in the jaw with a powerful right hook. He staggers, but Lena doesn't give him time to recover. The next thing she knows Sara Lance is hauling her away from where she's straddling Lex's chest and delivering blow after blow to his head and face.
She nearly catches Sara in the face with a flailing elbow in her effort to break free and resume her task of pulverizing Lex's skull to pieces. In response Sara cleanly flips her onto her back, slamming her as gently as possible to the deck and pinning her there.
Still, Lena feels nothing.
"Easy," Sara soothes, "easy now."
Lex coughs, rolling to his side before spitting the blood from his mouth.
"Bravo, sis." His voice is little more than a wheeze, but he still hasn't lost his arrogance. "I didn't think you had it in you." He tsks. "What would your cluster think?"
Lena regards him coolly, her muscles slackening under Sara's weight.
"Fuck you."
---
Resurrecting reality is easier than Lena expects, all things considered. Time spent in the dawn of time isn't really spent at all. None of them age, none of them know when a day has passed or a hundred. Sleep is useless. So Lena works.
The quiet of her own singular consciousness never fills. The emptiness in her chest gapes, driving her to spend every moment working on a solution. At least the other paragons know to keep Lex as far away from her as possible.
When they succeed, when their solution WORKS, as soon as she opens her eyes Lena feels full again. Her thoughts no longer rattle around her mind-- they're ensconced, cradled by the consciousness of the others. Lena stands in the sun of Earth Prime and breathes what feels like her first breath since the destruction of Earth-38.
With tears building in her eyes, Lena closes her eyes and reaches out through the restored connections emanating to and from their shared consciousness.
A flash of images bombard her, but she barely feels it as alarm floods her mind. Her breath quickens in panic, as realization slowly dawns.
She realizes she doesn't know a single one of them.

Bombs Away
Dazed and dripping, Sea Hawk wrung the saltwater out of his mustache. He could have sworn that he was enjoying a lovely, arson-free day on his ship only moments ago. But then a suspiciously beautiful tidal wave had crashed over the deck, and he suddenly found himself in this surprisingly cozy underwater grotto. Why, if Sea Hawk knew his salt (and he did), this could only be the work of —
“Mermista!” he sang, grinning as he turned to see the aquamarine princess. “Just couldn’t wait to get me in private, could you, my love?”
Mermista scowled. “This is serious, boo. You’re the only one I can trust.” She glanced from side to side and then leaned in to whisper. “It’s about Hordak.”
“Hordak? But he’s been ever so helpful since the war ended. He’s even been leading the restoration of Salineas.”
“I know! That’s the problem!” Mermista produced a waterproof datapad and shoved it under Sea Hawk’s nose. “Look! We intercepted a transmission to Dryl from his personal comms just this morning.”
Sea Hawk studied the text on the screen, reading it aloud in a puzzled tone. “Greetings Entrapta. You remain the most wondrous being in the universe. I humbly request a new shipment of bombs to be delivered to my temporary quarters in Salineas as soon as possible. XOXO. PS, this is your lab partner, Hordak. PPS, XOXOXOXOXO.”
He looked up. “Well, this seems harmless enough.”
Mermista mashed her face into her palm. “The bombs, Sea Hawk! He’s obviously planning some kind of sabotage to the city!”
“Oh. What about the hugs and kisses?”
“That’s clearly a secret code! I knew I was right not to trust him.”
Sea Hawk dithered. Despite everything, he had actually started to grow fond of the former warlord. It turned out they had a similar flair for the dramatic, and Hordak had given him some good tips for the best ways to set boats on fire. They’d even gone boot shopping together once.
“Perhaps we should… ascertain the threat level before we do anything rash, my dear?”
“Oh, I plan to,” Mermista huffed. “You and I are going on a stakeout. Come on.”
Sea Hawk offered little resistance. He could think of worse ways to spend a day.
Hordak was quartered in a small beachside cabin near the most active areas of reconstruction. From there, he could work on designs for new buildings, supervise the construction teams, and even make small equipment repairs. There was hardly a moment that he didn’t spend deep in concentration or toiling diligently.
And for every one of those moments, Mermista watched him, peering out of a high palace window with Sea Hawk’s spyglass pressed to her eye. Occasionally she’d yell out what she saw to Sea Hawk (“He left his lunch break five minutes early! Write that down!”) or mutter under her breath about all the possible ways Hordak might be secretly plotting the city’s second downfall (“I bet he’s going to blow up the reefs first. That’s what I’d do.”).
Just as the light was dimming into evening and the first few stars were appearing in the sky, Sea Hawk was startled awake by an immaculate elbow jabbing him in the ribs.
“Look!” Mermista hissed. “It’s happening!”
Sea Hawk took the proffered telescope. All the other workers had gone home for the night, but Hordak was still standing outside his door, trying and failing to look inconspicuous, glancing in every direction and nervously tapping his foot. Then he looked up towards the sky. Sea Hawk followed his gaze and saw a helicopter drone bearing the seal of Dryl slowly descending. It held a small crate as a payload. The sailor’s stomach sank. He wanted Salineas to be safe, of course, but he also really didn’t want to look for someone else to play shuffleboard with.
“Let’s go!” Mermista cried, jumping out the window. “We have to catch him red-handed!”
One water flume later they were on the beach, Mermista glistening, Sea Hawk trying to extract a hermit crab from his ear. Hordak whipped around, the crate from the drone in his hands. His eyes widened in guilty surprise.
“Princess Mermista!” Hordak stammered. “Please, I can explain!”
“I’m sure you will,” Mermista growled. “I knew you were up to no good. Hand over the bombs!”
Hordak’s ears dipped in embarrassment. Hanging his head in shame, he held out the crate. Mermista snatched it away from him and tore off the lid. Bracing themselves, she and Sea Hawk peered inside.
The box was filled with a dozen colorful spheres, each no bigger than an apple. Mermista prodded one carefully and found that it was made of a chalky, compressed powder. It smelled like flowers.
Sea Hawk tried and failed to hide a smile behind his mustache. “Mermista. My love. Light of my life. With all due respect, I think these are…”
“BATH bombs?” Mermista groaned. “You were smuggling bath bombs?”
Hordak almost seemed to shrink. “I know it is… unbecoming of one such as myself to seek luxury, especially while I am atoning for my wrongs. But you see, the hot water helps with my condition, and since Entrapta introduced me to the science of ‘self-care’ I have…”
“I don’t care about your stupid bubble baths! I thought you were going to blow up the kingdom!”
Hordak straightened and scratched his chin. “Oh. Yes, I can see how that misunderstanding may have occurred. But I assure you, I wish no harm to Salineas. Besides, even if I did I would probably start by attacking the reefs. That would require many more explosives than just one drone could deliver.”
Mermista pinched the bridge of her nose. “Oh for… All right. Listen. You’re coming with me. Right now. No funny business.”
They stalked silently through the palace. Mermista stomped far ahead of the other two, and Hordak followed behind like a chastised puppy. Sea Hawk brought up the rear, trying to think of something reassuring to say and not coming up with much. But when they reached the stairs that he knew for a fact lead to the dungeons, Mermista turned and led them down a different hallway instead. She stopped in front of a pair of tall brass double doors.
Mermista glared at Hordak. “I am giving you special dispensation to access this part of the palace. If you sneak around anywhere else, or if you tell anyone about what’s in here, I’ll drop the ocean on you. Got it?”
Hordak nodded. “I understand.”
Mermista pushed the doors open. Inside there was a massive room lined with dozens of shelves. Many held spheres similar to the ones Hordak had just received, but there were also colorful bottles of magnesium sulfate, scented soaps, and every kind of bubble solution imaginable. The colors and smells were abundant but not unpleasant.
“The royal stash!” Sea Hawk gasped.
“Oh my,” Hordak breathed. One of the labels caught his eye. “You have lavender?”
“I have everything,” Mermista boasted. “Wait’ll you see the ones with prizes in them. And I can’t have any construction workers not taking care of themselves, can I?”
Hordak bowed deeply. “This is a great honor, princess. I vow to remain worthy of it.”
Mermista crossed her arms and looked away. “Yeah, well. This isn’t because I forgive you, or anything.”
While Hordak perused the shelves, humming and waggling his ears in delight, Sea Hawk sidled up to Mermista.
“That was a very nice thing you did, my love.”
“Oh, shut up.”
“I am physically unable to! But more to the point, I’ve noticed that you seem to have developed a taste for the exciting fizzing drinks that Entrapta’s kingdom produces. And now we know that her prince consort has turned his lust for conquest to a lust for bath products. Perhaps this could be the start of a robust new trade agreement between Salineas and Dryl?”
Mermista groaned. But Sea Hawk was right.
That happened occasionally.

hiiiiiiii, mushyyyyyyyyyy 🤩 just droppin my lil blurb in your ask box, but don't rush !! get to it whenever ya have the time 😁
btw, i'd like male matches (that sounds so weird...dude matches ? man matches ? men matches ?) from one piece + jjk/hq ✨
- i'm 5'8, athletic but thicc build, brown eyes + curly black hair w long natural eyelashes + a cute nose (so i've been told hehe)
- i'm naturally intimidating but once i open my mouth people can't take me seriously until i show em i'm serious, which usually comes in the form of anger or intimidation.
- i'm usually a jokester/chill person who doesn't try to dwell too much on things. i also get a little deep + philosophical if im in the mood, but v rarely. i can be a bit chaotic most of the time + i often am not able to tell when i should stop cracking jokes/being silly 🤭 but my friends are always good about telling me it's time to get serious !!
- i'd do anything for my friends + family, am extremely loyal.
- when i'm w others, i'm usually the life of the party !! i'm always cracking jokes or saying/doing stupid shit. but i also enjoy my alone time + i'm just as silly when i'm by myself !! (i talk to myself when i'm alone is that weirddd)
- hobbies include working out, sitting out in the sun, taking care of my plants (to the best of my abilities, i managed to kill all of my patio plants at the same exact time), being anywhere near the water/beach, cooking, + studying because im in med school !!
muchas gracia, miel 💕

alicia, my love! i hope you enjoy your matchups! i thought long and hard about them. i'm sure you'll be able to tell what kind of ship dynamics i prefer, teehee.
╰┈➤ okay! from one piece, i ship you with zoro!
Tumblr media
* ˚ ♥ okay, now hear me out. i don't think i've ever heard you mention his name before, but let me tell you something, let me tell you something! you two? would make a power couple.
* ˚ ♥ from an outside perspective, think pretty princess and her guard dog. people would already find you a little intimidating, mainly because you have a mature air about you and seem assured of yourself. definitely not one to take bs, and people can tell.
* ˚ ♥ but after one look at zoro, who likes to stand right behind you and smirk, probably with a hand in your back pocket or an index finger linked around your belt loop-- it becomes clear that you are not to be fucked with.
* ˚ ♥ despite the scary guard dog persona, zoro definitely lets you fight your own battles. he's standing on the sidelines with a proud grin. whether you're staring someone down or beating some marine's ass, he's glad to witness every instance. finds it incredibly sexy that you're so capable and confident. ...let anyone touch you, though, and it's a different story. consider their ass dead. zoro would handle it.
* ˚ ♥ first impressions are discarded quickly once it becomes clear that you two are just a pair of goobers. for the purposes of this ship, i am restoring zoro's funnybone. yes, i can do that. zoro can be silly. and you, mi amor, definitely bring it out of him. and it's so. so. cute. make a joke about anyone, anyone (besides chopper), and he'll bark out a laugh so loud the birds fly away.
* ˚ ♥ but of course, he's not free from your jokes, either. he pretends to be annoyed by your quips and teasings. grumbles that you're 'disrupting his nap' when you're sitting by his side on the deck, laughing up a storm at his expense. but should you try to leave, his arms'll latch around you quick, pulling you into him.
* ˚ ♥ naps in the sun. often. you bring your study material when you spot him lying on the deck, basking in a sunspot. you always study for as long as you can until you fall asleep, too.
* ˚ ♥ you also work out together! it's cathartic, really. whether you're doing cardio, yoga, or lifting weights, zoro pushes you. he makes a great spotter. and when you get tired, zoro lets you sit cross-legged on his back while he does push-ups. you guys have really insightful conversations like that, actually. you chatting about whatever's on your mind, and zoro grunting out replies in between his pants.
* ˚ ♥ you both appreciate those moments, working out together in the crow's nest. for a few reasons. zoro appreciates that it's an enclosed space, away from the rest of your peeping crewmates. he especially appreciates the look of you in your tight work-out clothes, breathing heavily and dripping with sweat ;)
but really, zoro appreciates everything about you.
✧༺♥༻∞
moving on to your next matchup! and the matchup i love the most, actually. i just think it's cute >.<
╰┈➤ from jujustu kaisen, i ship you with nanami!
Tumblr media
* ˚ ♥ i can't lie, i am quite happy with this pairing. you might be thinking right now that this ship will have a similar dynamic to you and zoro, but i get completely different vibes from you and mr. nanami kento.
* ˚ ♥ in this ship, i'm thinking the dynamic would be tired x the one good thing in the world. in other words, nanami x you. i like the idea of you being a nonsorcerer. we all know that nanami craves normalcy. screw the bakery girl, you give him that. you, who he probably found studying at a coffee shop or something. hastily scribbling vocabulary terms on flashcards, sipping on a lukewarm cup of coffee.
* ˚ ♥ the doorbell jingles as nanami walks in and your gaze wanders to the door, where the broad blond stands. and you can't see his eyes behind his weird ass glasses, but you're pretty sure they're pinned on you. you look away as he orders whatever he came in for, but then a few minutes pass and an employee plops a muffin in front of you, canting their head at the blond. he bought you a muffin. and it's a sweet, simple gesture that means a lot to you, because you're a broke college student and really shouldn't be spending money on coffee in the first place.
* ˚ ♥ and, as the poets say, the rest is history. i think nanami is at first fascinated by you, maybe even a little envious, because you're a strong, beautiful woman with aspirations and struggles unrelated to fighting curses. learning about you is like peering through a locked window, imagining what life could be like without his burdens.
* ˚ ♥ that fascination steadily turns to admiration. because you intend to spend the rest of your life doing what you can to save people, or help people, or make life a little easier for others, and it genuinely stuns him. it's a different flavor from the jaded outlook of jujutsu sorcerers, who fight curses not because they want to, but because they have to.
* ˚ ♥ your relationship with nanami would be the definition of domestic bliss. oh, you crack your jokes and probably tease him as well, but nanami only ever hums in assent. occasionally deadpans a response he knows will fluster you. he likes listening to you talk, listening to you laugh. it brightens up his lifeless apartment.
* ˚ ♥ your schedule is busy, as you're in med school and all, but that just makes every moment you share with nanami sweeter. he treasures every second he gets to share with you. gets somehow even more stringent about his work hours, because a minute working overtime is a minute he spends away from you.
* ˚ ♥ when your schedules align, the two of you cook together. and it's always a wholesome, efficient affair. the food always comes out delicious, meals switching between nanami's fancies and your own preferences. it's the perfect blend of creativity, warmth, and mundanity, and cooking together definitely becomes a love language between the two of you.
* ˚ ♥ dining together is also a treat. your savory, homecooked meals usually paired with free-flowing conversation and a hearty glass of wine. afterwards, nanami always insists you take home the leftovers, and well, you can't really deny him, can you?
* ˚ ♥ you're over at nanami's so often that you start to leave some of your belongings there. one day you knock on his door with a big smile, arms full of greenery. it's some of your plants, you explain, 'to brighten up the place!' but it's more than that, and you both know it. it's the promise of a future shared—together. nanami ends up taking better care of the plants than you do, but hey. it's all part of your charm! ^-^
and nanami is incredibly charmed by you.

accursed kiss | j.t.k | chapter one
Tumblr media
pairing: jake kiszka x f!reader
warnings: none in this chapter, but future chapters will be 18+!
summary: you, completely unaware of the dark curse you’re under, are falling in love with jake kiszka. he, unfortunately, becomes all too aware of both the curse & its repercussions.
words: 1.5k
big, big love to @tripthelight-fanfic for being my beta on this work!
i.               you
You’d lived your entire life in this tiny town – and despite most of your friends moving onto bigger and better things, you were perfectly content. The shop you owned, bits and bobs, was your pride & joy. It had already made you a liveable income, and once you’d expanded into online sales, things had just gotten better for you. You lived above the shop, a little apartment space that suited you simply perfectly. It was absolutely ideal for you.
Your clientele was pretty consistent, either the other witchy folk in town out for a new tarot deck or the tourists wanting to check it out for a souvenir to bring home. Other people might be bothered by selling genuine things they believed in as souvenirs to tourists, but this was your livelihood, so you didn’t care even a little.
It was year four of you running the little shop, and you could honestly describe the store as home. You had your very own restored vintage turntable at the back of the shop, your favourite records making up the soundtrack to your quaint, perfectly content little life.
And, of course, once you’d expanded into online sales, you’d needed to hire someone to help you package orders. You technically also needed someone to cover the shop when you were on holidays, but you hadn’t gone anywhere in… years. You weren’t sure why your brain was so foggy when it came to memories about holidays, but you didn’t mind much.
Life was good, and you couldn’t complain.
It was a perfectly average, lovely day, and you’d not even come close to having a clue as to how much your life was going to change.
There were three online orders to pack, so you made your way through the shop, collecting items to set aside for Kelly, your employee. She always faithfully packaged the orders, and was so much better at it than you could ever hope to be. You were near done, just two more items to grab, when the little chime you had above the door dingled.
You collected yourself, ready with your customer service smile, but the person who’d just walked through the door knocked the breath out of your lungs instantly.
Beautiful.
There was no other way to describe him. Chestnut brown hair that hung just below his shoulders, deep-set brown eyes, and a face that reminded you of the moon, you couldn’t take your eyes off of him.
He was looking around the shop, and like the stars were smiling down on you, had not noticed you yet.
You took one single breath in before moving closer to him, plastering a smile on your face.
“Hi! Can I help you find anything specific?”
His eyes met yours, and it was like he was staring into your soul.
“I’m just browsing, but thank you. I’ll be sure to ask if I need any assistance.”
“Of course, yeah. I’ll just be behind the counter if you need me.”
All thought had just exited your brain, your entire being focused on regaining your ability to breathe properly while this gorgeous man browsed your store.
There was something so casual about his existence, the way he seemed completely oblivious to how captivating he was. You were trying extremely hard not to stare, but mostly failing.
He looked up from the shelf of tarot cards, eyes once again meeting yours.
“Cute shop.”
You were stunned out of your reverie by his words. “Oh! Thanks.”
“You just work here, or…?”
“Uh, no. I’m y/n, and I own the store.”
He grinned at you, eyes boring into yours.
“You’re very intense.” It was supposed to be a whisper under your breath, but the smirk pulling at his lips told you he’d heard you loud and fucking clear.
He, however, clearly chose to avoid your comment. “I love Hozier.”
You were confused.
He pointed at the record player. “Hozier. Love him. Good choice.”
“Oh! Right, yes. Of course. His whole woodland elf vibe suits the shop, right?”
“It really does.”
You two just looked at each other with a moment. Jake’s gaze was intense, the eye contact honestly a bit unsettling.
“So… can I help you, or? You said you were browsing.”
“Oh! Yeah. I was looking at your crystals. I’m looking for amazonite, but you only have tumbles and towers. I was hoping for something raw, if you have it?”
You were slightly taken aback by his clear desire of what he wanted – it wasn’t like men didn’t come into your shop, but you weren’t used to ones who were knowledgable like this. But you smiled at him, eyes crinkling at the corners. “I might in the back. I think I grabbed two from over there to fulfill an online order earlier – just bear with.”
You darted into the back, fingers brushing the shelves to find exactly what he needed for him. The raw amazonite was at the very back of the shelf – you were near out. You made a mental note to order more, but you were secretly very very glad you’d had what he wanted. Rushing back out into the store with a smile, you took a good look at him before he noticed you. He really was stunning – not very tall, maybe 5’8” at best, but his stature was striking. The sun coming in from the window behind him did not aid matters at all – providing him with a halo, accentuating his absolutely perfect nose.
He interrupted your staring with a smirk. “Find it?”
“Yes! Here!” You were a little flustered, but didn’t let it affect your customer service. You placed the tower into his open hand with a toothy grin.
“Amazing. Do you mind if I just have a look around the rest of the store before you ring me up?”
“Of course! Feel free to explore!”
As he turned to keep browsing, you tried to observe without staring – completely unsure of whether or not you were succeeding.
“Sorry – I don’t mean to bother you while you shop – but are you from the area, or just visiting?”
“Who’s asking?” He responded with a wink, knocking the air from your lungs.
“Um, well. I suppose I am. It’s just a small town, and I know my clientele pretty well, so I’m just wondering if I should expect you in here more often!”
Nice save. The words echoed in your brain, but you weren’t entirely sure the voice in your head sounded like it always did. Weird.
“Just moved in. With my brothers. You know the kinda decrepit mansion on Hazelwood?”
“I do! Nobody’s lived there in years.”
“Yeah, we could fucking tell when we moved in. Sorry for swearing. It’s just, uh, my brothers and I kinda inherited it, and our mum suggested that instead of selling it, we move in. See how a different small town suited.”
“And? What do you think?”
“Well, we’re only on our second day here. But we like it so far.”
“I’m glad! Have you guys tried the café next door yet? Kiss of the Witch?”
“No, we haven’t yet. Why, s’it good?”
“Oh my god, it’s incredible. They do themed drinks, and the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my entire life. Put it on the list, you have to go.”
He had moved till he was at the counter, a genuine smile on his face. “What if I took you there? Tomorrow at 10:30, brunch?”
“Like, with your brothers? Or just you?” It was a stupid question, but you felt the need to clarify. And, perhaps, shake his confidence for just a moment.
“Just me. That ok with you?”
“Yes, that would be okay with me!”
“Cool. See you then. Now, I’ll take the amazonite, and I’d also like this.” He placed a little purple box on the counter – your speciality. You called them “manifestation kits” – a jar of moon water, a bag of manifestation herbs, and a pack of affirmation cards hand-drawn by you.
You scanned the items with a smile, handing him the debit machine.
“You make these?” He gestured at the manifestation kits after tapping his card.
“I sure do! Be sure to let me know whether or not it ends up working out for you. I offer a full satisfaction guarantee.”
You were bluffing. You’d never told anyone that before, and they definitely didn’t come with that guarantee – you’d honestly gotten the idea off pinterest. You were no witch. But you wanted so badly to keep seeing him – even if brunch tomorrow didn’t go that well.
“Duly noted. See ya tomorrow, witchy woman.” He winked at you, then turned on his heel and exited the shop.
It took you a full hour to recover from the encounter, and return your breathing to what felt like somewhat normal. It was only after that hour you realized two things. One, you’d never gotten his name, and two, there was a tickle in the back of your throat and your breathing felt funny.
But oh well – you’d see him tomorrow.
