I haven’t wanted to drop the “Deadwind”-spoilers (unless someone has specifically and privately asked for them) -, but...
“I expected more of you. A lot more.”
“Goes both ways.”
...Bye. So many layers, so much meaning, so much hurt, so much pining and angst... no matter how many times I watch that part, I feel I could burst out by my feels.

Spoilers for the last scene of Deadwind season 3:
So, Leo is not Nurmi’s biological son, but Karppi goes “Well, he still needs a father anyway”, which, true. I’ve seen some lovely fics where Nurmi adopts Leo, but….. There’s just one problem: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that you still cannot adopt children not related to you as a single man in Finland. Single women and married couples (both gay and straight) can adopt kids, but not single men. So, with Karppi insinuating that Nurmi should adopt Leo regardless of the nonexistent genetic link, all I can think is “Sofia, GIRLLL…… Does that mean that you’re volunteering as a tribute??????”

She took him in, from the carefully groomed hair to the expensive coat and button-down. Fresh, cocky, likely used to getting his way and even worse, vain. An uncontrollable expression of disdain registered on her face.
Karppi's perspective on her first day with Nurmi. Spoiler: No, she does not like him.

dark water
whumpee: sakari nurmi
fandom: karppi/deadwind
hey! this fic is for @thecolourblood who said: Can I request a fic? Pretty please? 😊 Can you do an extended whumpy version of 2x08 (SPOILERS - I think I remember you saying you've watched the whole thing, but if not.. Be warned lol) I think it is where Nurmi gets kidnapped and hung upside down and drowned? Maybe with an angsty resus 😁? That part was cut so short. He just coughs and then he's fine. Stupid writers ... fr they cut that so short and for what! i was so mad when he was fine lmao. i hope this fic is good! i enjoyed writing it even though it did take me a hot minute, sorry. also this follows my usual format of starting right in canon and then taking it in another whumpier direction :)
He wakes suddenly, with cold water being thrown over his face, gasping for air.
“The arrow contained a fentanyl derivative. You might feel it in your head for a while,” says Sten, his back turned.
Nurmi sits up with a groan. His wrists are bound behind him and his feet are chained up. The chain goes all the way up to the ceiling. It feels heavy around his ankles. Sturdy.
Sten gets a chair for himself and sits down. He doesn’t say anything.
“You tried to kill us in Saaremaa,” Nurmi says.
“Mm,” Sten replies, tapping his gun. “Damn Kulju started to show off a little too much. Ots informed him he had arranged a car for you. It was pretty easy to track down where you were heading.”
“You’re framing Kulju as the killer,” Nurmi adds.
Sten chuckles lowly. “Of course I’m framing him. Right from the get-go.”
“It all started in Estonia, didn’t it?” Nurmi asks, cold water still dripping from his face. “You tried to kill Kerttu. She sold you weed in Tallinn, you caught her and forced her into the car. But you screwed up. She managed to escape.”
“You couldn’t just leave it be. Everybody was satisfied.”
Nurmi plows on. “But that episode excited you so much you couldn’t stop.”
Sten leans forward. “You like to come up with theories.”
Nurmi stares at him. “I hope you realize you’ll get caught.” He almost smiles.
“Karppi will find evidence of Kulju’s guilt,” Sten asserts. “You will both be found dead. Karppi will realize that before Kulju killed himself, he had time to kill you after you’d ended up in the wrong place. Everyone at the precinct will be shocked. Soon, everything will get back to normal.” He pauses for a moment, leans back in his chair.  “I haven’t done anything you wouldn’t want. I can see it in you now.”
“What?” Nurmi looks up at him.
“That you want to die.”
“No, I don’t.”
Sten smiles at him, unnervingly, predatorily. “Soon you will.”
He gets up from his seat and picks something up from a table. “It won’t take long with this,” he says, and Nurmi sees a thick silver wire in his hands. Sten sits back down and calmly begins unwinding the wire.
Nurmi takes a breath, thinks about how to play for time. “Why Kerttu? Now…after all these years.”
“That was a coincidence.”
He pauses, thinks, puts the pieces together in his mind. “You were damn lucky when Routa showed up at the same time,” he concludes. Sten smiles, nods, and scoffs.
“You’re a sicko. I don’t think you realize how insane you are.”
“With even one dealer off the streets, I’ve saved hundreds of young people.”
“Bullshit. They were small-timers. Easy targets for you.”
“It’s delusional to think people are equal. They’re not.”
“And you call yourself a cop. You’re nothing but a fucking psychopath.”
Sten looks at him silently for a long moment, readjusts his position. Eventually he sets aside the wire and says casually, “here’s what we’ll do.” He gets up and detaches a remote control from the ceiling, tethered with a chain similar to the one that’s currently holding Nurmi captive.
Sten pushes a button and the chain holding Nurmi’s legs begins to move upwards, gradually dragging him up by the feet until he’s hanging upside down.
Sten reaches down and pulls aside a metal grate on the floor, revealing dark water directly beneath him. Nurmi looks down at it, taking gasping breaths, the panic rapidly setting in. Sten lowers him down with the whirring sound of machinery. His head moves slowly and steadily closer to the water below. He struggles uselessly against his restraints.
From above, Sten gives him a friendly wave and says, in English, “bye-bye.”
He takes a deep breath, and then his head hits the water, and he goes under.
He blinks around at his dark surroundings as he continues to struggle to get free, to no avail. The water surrounding him is freezing and final. There’s nothing to save him, no way out, and he knows it. He is cold and wet and alone and scared. He wonders how much it will hurt to die. His lungs are already beginning to burn.
--
Karppi stops her car on the driveway, just behind Nurmi’s. She wastes no time in climbing out, feeling uneasy. She walks quickly towards a small shed near the water, pulling her gun out and looking around cautiously.
She carefully opens the shed’s door, all but silent. She shoots before Sten even has time to turn around.
He collapses with a yell, hitting the ground hard. Behind him, she sees Nurmi’s legs. His head isn’t visible. There’s water. He is drowning, surely, right at this very moment.
“Stay down, for fuck’s sake!” Karppi shouts, pointing her gun at Sten. He stays down.
She reaches for the remote hanging from the ceiling, and nearly has her finger on the button to pull Nurmi up and out of the water when a thick wire is wrapped around her throat from behind.
Her hands fly up to pull it away, the wire immediately digging into her skin and making it hard to breathe. She chokes and struggles and she and Sten hit the ground. She tries to pull away but he holds fast. She shifts her position and suddenly her fingers brush against damp blood. She finds the bullet hole and digs her fingers in.
Sten lets go, screaming in pain. Karppi rolls away, finds the first object she can get her hands on - some rope tied into a large knot - and beats him with it until he falls unconscious.
She drops the rope with a soft thump and staggers back to her feet, taking a deep breath. She reaches again for the remote and this time pushes the button with no one there to stop her.
It’s eerie, watching her partner rise through the air upside-down, dripping wet, skin pale and almost blue, not moving at all. Not breathing, she thinks.
She raises him up until his head is above ground level, then drags a square metal covering over the hole in the floor. This done, she begins lowering him until his body is lying prone on the ground, atop the metal cover.
She lets go of the remote, which swings back and forth on its chain with a squeaking noise. She drops to her knees beside her partner, feels his neck for a pulse. There’s nothing there. “Fuck,” she mutters. She holds a hand over his mouth and confirms her suspicion that he isn’t breathing, either.
“Don’t you fucking die on me,” she says, half pleading, beginning to perform CPR. She feels his ribs bend beneath her hands and part of her wants to stop, because she’s hurting him, but he’s not breathing and his heart’s not beating, and when he wakes up - and he will - he’d rather be hurting than dead.
She does compressions for half a minute, then pauses, bends her head down, covers his mouth with her own, and breathes, forcing air into his lungs. She does it a second time, hoping he’ll start to breathe on his own. But nothing happens. She goes back to her compressions, casting a brief glance at Sten and finding him, luckily, still unconscious on the floor.
“Come on,” she whispers, pushing down on Nurmi’s chest. “Wake up and be mad at me for breaking your ribs.”
He does not wake up.
She breathes for him again, goes back to compressions again, breathes, compresses…she can’t stop. He can’t be dead.
He isn’t dead.
She’s in the middle of her fifth round of compressions when he wakes, coughing and choking. She rolls him onto his side, keeping a hand on his back as he coughs up mouthful after mouthful of water.
Eventually, he stops coughing and starts shivering. Within seconds, his whole body is trembling, and she grabs him and hauls him up into a sitting position, tugging him close.
He makes a quiet noise of pain - that’ll be his ribs, she thinks - but he’s too exhausted to do more. He slumps against her, his ice-cold hair brushing the underside of her chin. She rubs a hand up and down his arm and holds him up, feeling him shaking even through their clothes. More importantly, though, she can feel him breathing, feel his chest moving, feel his heartbeat (a little too fast and faint, but there).
“You’re alive,” she says softly, with no hope of keeping the raw emotion out of her voice.
He doesn’t say anything in return - she doubts he’s able to, all things considered - but he nods, nothing more than a slight movement against her shoulder.
It’s enough to be reassuring, though, and she pulls him closer still, letting out a sigh of relief when she at last hears the faint noise of approaching sirens. Everything is going to be okay, now, she thinks. The case is all but closed. They have their killer. And Nurmi is alive.
thanks for reading! did some research on cpr for this one and much to my dismay found that usually people don’t wake up immediately when cpr is successful (and usually it’s not successful at restarting the heart bc it’s not really meant to do that but rather to keep the blood oxygenated or something until medical help arrives but yeah. we’re ignoring that. this is fiction cpr works however i want it to lmao). anyways i hope you enjoyed!! have a good night <3

There is a whole deadwind fandom thing going on on instagram! I saw your tweet about it and wanted to let you know! Just search hastags sofiakarppi, deadwind, karppi and you will find them
instagram! It never occurred to me that fandom might be happening there! Thanks for the tip, anon... feel to say hi if you’ve got an IG or twitter. I’m fairly sure my instagram is @victorian.ennui
And just as a general notice, I am absolutely heading down a Karppi/Nurmi spiral. Plus, it’s inspired me to start rewatching The Killing (us) on hulu, so fair warning, Linden/Holder content, and spoilers for both shows will definitely be showing up on this blog.
But maybe it will inspire some of you to check them out? And join me in this madness? One can only hope ;)

...and the whole third - and sadly last - season of Karppi/Deadwind is watched. Literally during one night. That tells something about how fantastic it is. There are some minor things that I might have chosen to do differently, but still this season might be my favorite of them  - even though the whole show will always have a special place in my heart. So many twists and turns, humor and tears. It really deserves the attention it has gotten and even more. I won’t give away any spoilers “in public”, but if you want to ask something by private messages, I will gladly answer.

New partner
I'm back, and this one is a big one. There are a lot of hurt/comfort/hurt/comfort. And might i add that our fave detectives get quite acquainted here (yeah, i mean sexually too), so brace youservels.
AND SPOILERS FROM SEASON 03
----
It was already past midnight. Nurmi was in his living room, with his big window opened, breathing some fresh air after just putting Leo to sleep. They had played a lot earlier that evening and both Leo and his father were exhausted. So it didn’t take long for the boy to fall asleep after his bath.
The man took this opportunity, and after a long and deserving shower, he picked up a wine bottle and poured the last glass that had been leftover from when he opened it last week. He went to the corner of the living room and stayed there a bit, sipping his wine very slowly since it was the last of it.
Nurmi never thought his life would change so much in three years. Leaving the financial crimes unit, transferring to homicide, meeting Sofia, bumping into Laura and now, having a son. After all the ups and downs, he felt good. Even though he missed being at work and solving cases with Sofia, being home and taking care of Leo gave him the kind of joy that he never felt in his life.
After his one glass of wine was over, the man was getting ready to sleep when his phone buzzed with a text on his pocket.
-Hey, are you awake? - Sofia’s name appeared on the screen. It was late, he wondered why she was texting at that hour.
-Yeah, why? Is everything ok? -He texted back.
-I’m coming over. -Her answer was direct. She was always the mysterious one, and most times her behavior was unintentional, it’s just who she is, and Nurmi didn’t mind at all, he loved solving puzzles, always did, and Sofia was one of his favorites. Plus, it'd be good to see her, they haven't seen each other for almost two weeks now. She was working crazier hours since he went on paternity leave, about a month ago, so they barely saw each other during this time.
It took about ten minutes and then she knocked on the door. He gave her a spare key a long time ago, this way he wouldn't need to go down there to open it every time she showed up.
When he opened the door to his apartment, Sofia was on her side, leaning on the wall to his left, with a tired look and a wine bottle in her hand. She was wearing her big black coat with a white wool sweater under it, some jeans and snow boots. It was snowing a lot out there.
-Hey. -He said, opening his arms to hug her like they always did. But she didn't do the same.
-Sorry, I won't hug you, I'll get blood on your clothes. -She said standing straight, now facing him, showing the other side of her head that had blood on it. A lot actually. It even got on her clothes. -But hey, I brought wine. -She forced a smile, but he could see that she was feeling pain.
-Shit, what happened? -He said giving her the space to enter the apartment. Sofia took her shoes off and left them by the door. The place was incredibly warm and her body felt good, maybe for the first time that day, since she'd spent all day on the streets.
-It's nothing serious, part of the job, you know, but this area bleeds like crazy. I couldn't go home looking like this, I didn't want to scare Emil. -She said, handing him the wine and taking her bloody coat off. That was not the only reason she wanted to go there, but she didn’t want to get into the subject now, she was still upset about it.
-Are you sure it's nothing serious? I can take a look for you. -He rested the wine on the counter and walked to her, trying to get a look at the wound.
-No, it's fine, I think it just needs cleaning. -She said, looking at him. It hurt a little, but nothing to be concerned about.
-Okay then, go take a shower. Your clothes have so much blood that it looks like you killed someone. And this sweater may be stained by now. -He looked at her clothes and even she didn't notice how much blood had come out.
-Nice, it was my favorite one. -She rolled her eyes and let out a deep breath.
-Maybe some clean water can fix it, give it to me, go clean yourself up and I'll get you something to wear. There are clean towels under the sink. Use my bathroom so the noise won't wake Leo up. -He said pointing her to where his room was. But she already knew the way.
Sofia entered the bathroom and locked the door while Nurmi searched his room for some clothes that might fit her. She took her clothes off and looked at it, shit, it had a lot of blood indeed.
-Hey, the clothes are on the bed. -He said on the other side of the door.
-Okay, thanks. -Sofia said and entered the shower. The warm water was like a hug to her soul, she was exhausted and her head hurt a little. She rubbed the area gently and she could see the blood running down and washing away. After a much needed shower, she got out and wrapped herself in a towel, slowly opening the door that went into Nurmi's room.
On the bed there were some clothes, his clothes, she supposes. A white shirt, gray sweatpants and a sweater, but she wasn't cold anymore, so she'd leave the sweater. Sofia then got dressed and went back to the bathroom to get her dirty clothes while still drying her hair. She'd almost forgotten about the cut on her head when she accidentally brushed the towel above it and she felt it sting.
-Shit! -She said looking at the towel that was now stained red, just like her clothes. She opened the door and went to find her now former partner. He was sitting by the kitchen counter, fidgeting on his phone with two glasses of wine served. -Hey, I'm sorry but I got your towel dirty while drying my hair. -She said, holding the towel in her hands, along with the other clothes. He got up and walked towards her.
-Don't worry, it will come out, it's not a big deal. -He grabbed the towel from her hand and looked at the small blood stain. -Give me your clothes, I'll put them underwater and hopefully the stain will come out. -He said and she handed the white sweater to him.
-The others too. -He asked, looking at the rest of the clothes in her hand.
-It's okay, I'll wash these when I get home. -She said, raising her shoulders. He pretended not to listen and still stretched his hand, asking for the clothes. She then rolled her eyes and gave it to him.
Nurmi disappeared into the hallway and she sat on the counter, taking her phone in hand and checking the time, it was already 1:30am. After some time, her friend came back with a first aid kit in hand and sat by her side, putting it on the table.
-How are you feeling? -He asked, looking at her. Her expression was kinda grumpy, maybe she was just tired and in pain, he thought.
-It hurts a little, but i think it's okay now, the bath helped. By the way, thank you for the clothes. -She said looking back at him. She could see he was also tired, it must be hard having Leo alone. She then looked back at the counter, where the wine glasses were, and tilted her eyes to his again. -Shall we? -She asked, reaching for the glasses and handing one to him.
-Yes! -He smiled and picked up the glass from her hand. -Cheers. -They toasted and both took a sip after. Sofia wasn’t exactly in the mood for “cheers”, she just wanted to drink something. -Can I? -He looked at the wound and then to the first aid kit.
-Yeah, but i think it's not a big deal. -She answered and he got closer.
-Well, you can tell me what happened while I check it out. -He stood up and opened her hair a little to take a better look. It was a little deeper than he thought, but it looked like it was going to be okay.
Sofia actually didn't mind the cut, but she was pissed about something else, something that was not her decision. She tried to shrug it off though.
-I was chasing a suspect and he surprised me. He was hiding behind a wall and when I went through he hit me with a piece of metal and ran away. I got a little dizzy and didn't pass out, but still, he got away. -She said while drinking her wine and Nurmi applied some antiseptic on the wound. -Ouch! -Sofia complained.
-Sorry. Sure you don't want to go to the hospital? Blows to the head are never good if left unsupervised. -He put the things back on the box and took another sip of the wine. It warmed him more and he started to feel hot, so he took off the sweater he had on top of a shirt.
-Nurmi, I'm fine. -She had a crossed look on her face. Sofia swallowed the rest of her wine at once and rested the glass back on the counter.
-Were you alone chasing the guy? -He gave her a disapproving look, drinking the rest of his wine as well and pouring another glass. -More? -He offered her and she nodded yes.
-Yes, and i know what you're gonna say, and i don't wanna hear it. -She said not even looking at him. He served her the wine and slid the glass back to her. He could see she was mad at something. Was he the problem?
-What is up with you today? Are you mad at me? -He asked firmly. She let out a deep breath and looked at him, finally, after drinking the wine in her glass all at once. She was now feeling it burn in her throat.
-I'm not mad at you. Sorry. -Her voice was still serious, but her eyes were softer now, he even thought she was going to cry. -I just have a lot on my mind. -She continued and rubbed her face. Nurmi got closer to her, stretching his hand. She took it.
-It's okay. -He pulled her gently to stand up in front of him. -Come here. -He then closed their distance in a hug. -You know you can talk to me, I'm your partner, that's what partners do. -Nurmi said, wrapping his arms tightly around her. It was incredible how her face went from a tough detective that was bleeding and didn’t care, to the face of a kid that just fell to the floor and needed a hug.
-I know, i just didn't wanna bother you. You have a lot of things to take care of now with Leo and everything. I'll be fine. -She tried to push away the feeling inside of her.
-You won't bother me, I promise. Okay? -He looked down at her and she nodded, agreeing. -You wanna talk about it, or do something else? -His eyes were going all over her face, trying to read her.
Sofia didn't want to talk now, she just wanted to enjoy this time with him, something she hadn't had the opportunity to do in a very long time. It took her some time to realize that she missed him. She's been working so much since he got on his paternity leave that she didn't have time to think about it. It was easier when they were together everyday.
-Something else, please. -She kept looking at him, hoping that he'd feel the same that she was feeling at that moment. Usually they had great communication through their eyes.
The man took a deep breath and she could feel his chest rising before going back to normal again. They kept looking at each other and then he put his hand on her face, brushing her hair to the back of her ear very gently.
Nurmi looked at her lips and calmly approached her, pulling her head slowly so their lips touched each other in a warm kiss. His thumb was caressing her cheek bone while they kissed, not rushing the moment at all. It was all they needed at the end of the day. Their lips moved slowly together while their tongues searched for each other, savoring the moment. Getting comfortable in each other’s mouths.
Quietly, the kiss was ending, but Nurmi kept his lips very close to hers, touching them from time to time.
-I missed you, Sofia Karppi. -He whispered against her lips, making a smile spread across her face.
-I missed you too, Sakari Nurmi. -She said, opening her eyes and searching for his gaze. She loved how alive his eyes looked when they were this close to each other. It was like a crystal window. She stayed like that for quite some time, wondering what was going on inside his head, trying to solve his puzzled expression at her. Sofia could feel the heat rising on her body every time he touched her, and she could also see his look changing from innocent to full of desire.
Sofia then took the step and kissed him again, this time with much more urgency than before. She took him by surprise, but he didn't hesitate, he let her take control of the situation and just followed her rhythm, pressing her back against the nearest wall around.
His hands entered the shirt she was wearing and his fingers touched the skin on her waist. She felt her body burning everywhere he touched, and she wanted this feeling to last forever so she grabbed his hair and pulled him closer to her, like it was even possible.
After a while of hungrily kissing each other, their lungs begged for air, and they were forced to stop kissing in order to breathe. He searched her eyes for an answer to their imaginary question. Did they want the same thing?
Her eyes were sharp and she had a strong look on them, like she was asking him the same question, demanding his answer. Nurmi then smiled at her, but it was very far from an innocent smile. They had their answer.
Without saying a word, he took her hand and rushed to his room. He would've been satisfied with the couch, but didn't want to get caught by his son, who had already learned how to get out of his crib.
When they reached the bedroom, Sofia locked the door behind him and the man grabbed her waist, kissing her again and walking backwards with her to the bed. His legs touched the mattress and they broke the kiss.
Nurmi then relieved her of the white shirt she was wearing and stopped to admire the view. She was incredibly hot, and looking at her made him feel powerless. Who was that woman that was messing with his senses?
Sofia took off his shirt and pushed him to sit on the bed. His hands then grabbed her waist while she was still standing and his lips kissed her belly while he tried to strip her of her pants. And what a nice surprise to know that she was wearing nothing underneath those pants. As he looked up to her, he could see this beautiful woman looking him in the eyes, like she was going to rip his soul apart.
The waves of pleasure taking over her body were driving her insane, like his lips were filled with sparkles. She couldn't wait any longer, so in a quick move, she pushed him on the bed and took off everything else he was wearing, tossing it far away on the floor. After that, Sofia crawled on top of him, kissing him again while his hands explored her body.
Nurmi made a trail of kisses on her neck and moved his mouth to her chest, sucking and licking and touching everything in that area. Her whole body shivered to the warmth of his mouth and she felt the urge to have him, so she pushed him back to rest his head on the pillow and while he grabbed her hips, her hands guided him to where she wanted.
At that moment he didn't know his own name, all that he knew was that he needed her, entirely, all of her, and when she started moving on top of him, his body went into shock by how much pleasure she was giving him. Nurmi held her thighs while she was riding him and his eyes were fixed on her expressions. He could see her whole body shining with the small sweat drops that formed on her skin.
After some time, he turned her around, without getting out of her, and started moving back and forth. She grabbed his back and pulled him closer, causing friction on their skin every time he moved inside of her, and she could feel he was starting to sweat too. Their bodies were on fire.
He backed away a little and looked into her eyes. His mind went back to every other time they had looked at each other like this but couldn't go all the way to their destination. Three years of tension building up between them, everytime they kissed and every time they touched. They always secretly imagined how it would be when they finally gave in to the temptation, and they never even got close to the real feeling. This, right there, was real, their bodies touching, dancing with each other, exploring every inch of flesh. Their emotions were so raw that it had become sensitive to the slightest of touches. He felt like an open wound and she touched it right on the spot.
He loved seeing her like that, surrendered to the pleasure, and most of all, he loved being surrendered to her. She had him in her grip and he didn't want her to let go.
She pulled him down again, kissing him with desire, biting his lips while he increased the speed of his movements, making the sound of their bodies even louder. And when they finished together, Sofia held him in her arms, tightening her grip, holding on to that moment.
After a while, he leaned down on her side, facing her while her hands ran gently through his hair that was now sweaty. Her skin was tingling with pleasure and she got lost into his eyes.
-You know, I've waited a long time for this. -He said resting his head on her chest. He could hear her heart beat slowly returning to normal and his hands were dancing around in her back, touching it smoothly.
-Me too. -She said and breathed deeply, letting out a sigh. It felt so good being here with him, and having him as her partner, which she missed a lot too. It was supposed to be an innocent thought, but suddenly, her body trembled and she felt the lump on her throat.
-Are you okay? -He asked in a whisper, noticing the change in her behavior. She thought that he deserved to know what's going on.
-Actually, no. -She finally said and he raised his head to look at her. -They're giving me a new partner at work. -She said and laid on her back, looking at the ceiling.
He was not surprised by this, they couldn't let her work alone, but he was surprised by how upset she had been about it.
-And how are you feeling about it? -He asked, leaning his head on his hand and making circles on her belly with the other.
-I don't want to work with anyone else. I don't trust anyone else to have my back again. -She said and Nurmi smiled, it was nice knowing she trusted him, again.
-Well, you didn't trust me at first. Now look at us. -He said trying to make her laugh and she did.
-It was different. -She said, biting her lip. Maybe she let out more than she intended to and her answer intrigued Nurmi.
-How? -He asked and she couldn't find the words to answer his question. -Because of how our relationship evolved? -He continued and she nodded her head. He already knew that, but getting the answer from her was completely different.
-Aren't you upset that they gave me another partner? -She asked, looking back at him.
-Well, I'm not upset. We'll be back together once my paternity leave expires, so I think it's okay. Besides, it's dangerous for you to work alone. -He said, looking at the cut on her head and she nodded at him, still pensive. -Are you going to kiss your new partner if you find yourself drunk in your underwear again? -He said remembering the moment and they both laughed.
-If they're hot enough, I might. -She said, teasing him.
-Ouch. -He pretended to be hurt by her statement. -So you kissed me just because I'm hot?
-Well, not just because you're hot, but also because you were you. -She dropped the words and Nurmi gasped. Is this what he thinks it is? Sofia didn't mean to spill the words like this, but it was done. She was just hoping he'd take it lightly.
-What do you mean? -He asked, trying to get more information.
-You really thought that I kissed you only because I was drunk? You have so little faith in yourself? -She asked and he gave her a confused look. She was a fucking mystery.
-Yes and no. I mean, you were drunk, and I'm irresistible. -He said, smiling at her.
-Yes, you are. -She kissed him before he could ask anything else. Nurmi didn't complain, for a long time all he wanted to do was repeat their kiss after that first time, at least when she was sober, and fortunately they got to do it quite a few times.
-Do you think they will let us work together again when I'm back? -He asked when she let go of his lips. She gave him a worried look.
-I don't know, but they better do. -She said and got off the bed, heading towards the bathroom. Nurmi was left there, thinking about everything she just said and his head couldn't quite understand what just happened, so he just got up and, like her, went to clean himself up. After that, he went to check on Leo, who was still asleep.
When Nurmi got back on bed, she had her back to him, so he just went under the blankets and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her body closer to him. He could stay like this forever with her.
-How is the head? -He asked, stroking her hair, near the injury.
-Better, just  a little bit sore. -She said, closing her eyes. He rested his head on the curve of her neck and his hand caressed her waist. Her skin was smooth and warm and it felt good under his fingertips. She felt her body relax to his touch.
-Did you mean what you said? About why you kissed me. -He asked, but didn't know exactly what he wanted the answer to be. She let out a sigh.
-Can we talk about it in the morning? -The woman asked, exhausted.
-Okay. -He kissed her head and closed his eyes. Both fell asleep very fast.
When Sofia's alarm went off in the morning, it felt like she'd been run over by a truck because her head hurt like hell. She had to go all the way to the kitchen, where she'd left her cellphone. When she was finally able to turn it off, she felt everything spin around her and then, it went dark.
Nurmi woke up when Sofia got up to turn her alarm off, it was already 7am. He opened his eyes and kept waiting for her to return to the bedroom. Suddenly, he heard a bumping noise. He jumped out of the bed and ran to the kitchen. Sofia was on the floor, unconscious, so he ran to her.
-Sofia, wake up. -He shook her and gently slapped her face. Soon, her eyes opened.
Her vision was blurry, but she could see Nurmi above her. Her head hurt and she felt something warm run down her face. It was blood.
-Shit. What happened? -She asked, touching her injury.
-I think you passed out. -He said, helping her sit up. -Stay here, I'll be right back, okay? -He got up and went to get a towel, a blanket and some ice. He put the towel with the ice on her cut to stop the bleeding and wrapped the blanket around her, since she wasn't wearing anything more than his shirt.
He then grabbed her from the floor and put her on the couch. Sofia could still feel her head banging and the ice made it worse. But at least the bleeding was stopping. Nurmi sat down by her side and held the improvised ice pack for her so she could rest her arms.
-What are you feeling? -He asked and she could hear his voice was worried.
-My head hurts like hell. -She said with her eyes closed. -And i'm still a little bit dizzy.
-Okay. Stay here a minute and calm down until the bleeding stops. I’ll get you a glass of cold water. -Nurmi said and left her on the couch. He got the water and quickly returned to sit with her. She had blood all over herself again.
-Here, i’ll hold the ice for you. -He handed her the water and put his hand over the ice. -Let me take a look. -Nurmi then took the ice out and checked the wound, it didn't look that pretty. She had her eyes still shut and he could see she was feeling pain, more than she cared to admit.
-Thanks. -She said, giving the glass back to him after drinking the water. He rested the glass on the coffee table and held her by the arm.
-Can you stand up? You’ll have to take another shower. -He was calming down now, seeing that the blood was slowing down.
-Yeah, just help me out. -She said and he helped her get up, and then, they walked slowly to the bathroom. The bleeding had stopped and Sofia was feeling a lot less dizzy now.
Nurmi then seated her on the toilet and turned the water on. Then, he took the blanket from around her.
-Raise your arms. -He asked and she did so he could take the bloody shirt off. -You know, that was not how I imagined undressing you again this morning. -He said laughing at the situation, trying to relieve the tension, and she gave him a comic look.
-Really? And you were imagining that? -She played along with him.
-Yeah, but it’ll have to wait. -He grabbed her arm and lifted her again. -Don’t wash your hair. I know it’s gross but if you do, it might start bleeding again.
-Okay Doctor Nurmi. -She said getting under the water and they both laughed. He helped her wash the blood off her face and body.
Soon she was again sitting on his bed, this time waiting for him to bring out her clothes that were on the drying machine.
-Feeling better? -He sat next to her on the bed, handing her the clean clothes.
-Yeah, I think so. -She said, looking at him.
-Good, I was worried about you. -He said touching her back gently and then he heard Leo calling him in the other room. -Get dressed and go to the kitchen, I’ll make us something to eat. -He gave her a kiss on the forehead and left the room.
Nurmi entered Leo’s room and he was standing up on his crib. His eyes lit up when he saw his dad.
-Come to daddy. Are you hungry? -He asked and Leo smiled. -Let’s go eat some breakfast with Sofia. -They exited the room and went to the kitchen. Nurmi put Leo on his baby chair and started preparing their food while the baby distracted himself eating a banana that Nurmi gave him.
-Hi Leo! -Sofia emerged slowly from the hallway and sat next to the kid. Nurmi smiled at her and she stayed there watching him cook. Her stomach was growling at the smell of food, especially his food, which was delicious.
After a few more minutes, Nurmi was serving their plates with some scrambled eggs, toast and some fruits he had sliced earlier.
-Coffee? -He asked her.
-Please! -Sofia begged and he laughed. While he prepared the coffee, she helped Leo eat his breakfast without making too much of a mess and then, Nurmi put a cup in front of her when it was ready. The smell of the coffee and the food were amazing.
Sofia and Nurmi ate their breakfast sitting in front of each other while Leo was sitting at the edge of the table, next to them.
-Does it taste good? -He asked while drinking his coffee.
-It’s amazing, thanks. -She said and put more food into her mouth.
-How is the head? -He asked, cleaning Leo’s face with a napkin and giving him some water.
-Much better, I think. But I still feel the thick blood on my scalp, it’s disgusting. -She said and he laughed but soon his expression was serious again.
-I was worried about you. -He said remembering the episode.
-I know, I’m sorry. But I’m better now. -She said finishing her food and the rest of the coffee.
-I don’t think you are. I think you should go to the hospital, the cut is deeper now and probably gonna need stitches. -He said already anticipating the oncoming storm.
-Well, I disagree, I’m fine. -She said, giving him a look of disapproval.
-Well, the collapsing on the floor and the blood everywhere suggest otherwise. Don’t be so stubborn, I’ll drive you. -Nurmi said and she rolled her eyes.
-Fine, but you’ll see it’s nothing. -She said getting up and putting her plate on the sink.
The way to the hospital was quieter than usual for them, except for Leo who was trying to speak some words in the back seat. Nurmi was always pensive when he was driving, and this time it was no different. His mind was remembering the question he’d asked her last night.
-Can we talk about this in the morning? -She had said the night before. But it never seemed to be the moment to ask again.
When they arrived, the ER was crowded and after Sofia went through the triage, they had to wait a long time. The whole time they were there, Nurmi seemed to have lost the ability to function around her. Always pulling his hand away when he was almost resting it on her leg, or reaching out for her hand, like it was a crime to show affection in public.
Sofia noticed his nervous behavior and decided to play along with it, so she rested her head on his shoulder and her arm crossed with his. She felt his body tense up and then relax after a deep breath. He then leaned his cheek on the top of her head and a smile appeared on his face. After what felt like an eternity, the Doctor called.
-Sofia Karppi. -The short woman wearing glasses and a white lab coat appeared on the door, calling her. She then released her arm from Nurmi's and went to the doctor's office, leaving him and Leo at the waiting room.
The doctor examined her, asked a few questions and took a look at her wound, writing some things down in the process. She then sent Sofia in for a head scan, and after that, the infirmary to get stitches. After everything, she got back to the doctor's office to discuss the diagnosis.
-Ms. Karppi, I'll ask you a few more questions, if that's okay. -The woman said and Karppi just nodded yes. -Last night, after the first incident, did you take any medication?
-No. -Sofia answered.
-Did you drink alcohol?
-Hmm yes.
-Did you make any kind of physical effort? -She asked looking Sofia in the eye and her cheeks burned.
-Yeah. -Sofia looked away embarrassed.
-What kind? -The doctor insisted.
-I took a walk after i got the injury, and i had sex a few hours later. -What a moment, she thought.
-Okay, just so you know, we don't recommend any kind of effort in these cases. -The doctor looked at her. -Well, i asked all of these questions because i have your head scan here and it looks like you had a minor injury to the head, and the scan shows a little swelling, which can be caused by the things you described to me, but nothing too serious. Probably that's why you passed out this morning. However, we'd like to keep you here for observation, or, if you have someone to look over you at home, we can discharge you.
-I'd rather go home, if possible. -Sofia asked and the doctor wrote it down.
-Okay, do you have someone to watch you for the next 24 hours?
-Yes.
-Fine then. Just a reminder: no driving, no operating machines, no drinking and no exercise, of any kind -The doctor said looking over her glasses. -And at night, you have to be woken up every two hours. If anything happens, call the emergency or come back here. -The doctor printed out some papers and a prescription for the medication.
-Okay doc, thanks. -Sofia said and the woman smiled at her.
-You're welcome, get well soon. -The doctor said and Sofia got out of her office. When she laid her eyes on Nurmi, he was playing with Leo, who was on the chair next to him.
-Hey, how was it? You took long enough. -He asked, picking up Leo from the chair and getting up.
-Yeah, my brain swelled a little. They gave me the option of staying in for observation or going home, if I had someone to watch over me. -She said while they both walked out of the ER.
-Well, and? -He asked, getting to the car and opening the door to put Leo in. Sofia then handed him the instructions that the doctor had given her.
-Looks like you're stuck with me for the next 24 hours. -Sofia gave him a sarcastic smile and entered on the other side of the car.
-I’ve had three years of intense training on the subject, I think I can manage another 24 hours of Sofia Karppi. -Nurmi said and Sofia rolled her eyes at him, laughing.
After that, they went straight to Sofia's apartment and by the time they arrived, Emil was arriving too from school, so they met at the door.
-Hi mom, what happened to your head? -Emil asked, looking concerned. Sofia then kneeled to give him a tight hug and two hundred kisses on the cheek.
-It's nothing, mommy just had a little accident at work. How was school? -She opened the door and all four of them went in.
-It was fine. We had a spelling contest and my team won. -Emil said, proud of himself. -Sakke, are you staying with us today? -The boy was very smart, he'd give him that.
-Only if i can sleep in your room. -He said looking at Sofia from the corner of his eye and she tried to contain her smile. They both knew he wouldn't sleep at Emil's room.
-Okay. -Emil shrugged it off. When they arrived at the apartment, Nurmi put Leo on the floor and Emil took his hand and started talking to Leo about the last FIFA game he'd played as if Leo was understanding something.
Sofia went to her room to drop her things and change into a more comfortable set of clothes. Her black coat still had blood on it, since it wasn't washed yet, but thankfully Nurmi was able to clean the white sweater before it became stained. She put the coat in the washing machine, along with some other clothes and returned to her room. She stopped by the mirror and took a look at the stitches, checking if everything was ok. It looked fine.
-How are you feeling? -Nurmi suddenly appeared leaning on her bedroom door frame.
-You have to stop asking me that. -She looked at him through the mirror and he walked up to her.
-I know, sorry, I just wanted to make conversation. -He approached her and looked at her stitches through the mirror as well. -I'm glad you're okay. -He touched her back with his warm hands.
-Thank you for helping me out. -Sofia turned to him and he gave her that shy smile he always did when she thanked him for something. She put her arms around his waist and pulled him closer. -Where are the kids? -She whispered with her face close to his.
-Living room. -He answered while he shifted his look between her lips and her eyes. She had that look on her face, like she was studying him, trying to decide what to do with his lips this close. She decided to close the distance between them and landed a nice and slow kiss to his lips, that she was now so familiar with.
He moved his mouth with hers, mixing their breaths, while his hand went to hold her face, placing a rhythm to their kiss. They could do this forever, he thought, if not for the need to breathe. Suddenly, they had lost all of the discomfort about showing affection to each other.
Sofia noticed his eyes glued to her, and his face had a curious expression, almost like he was about to ask her something, but then, his muscles relaxed again.
-Whatever it is you gave up on saying, please, go ahead and say it. -She took a step back and her hands reached to his as a gesture of understanding. Nurmi let out a shaky breath, not sad, just deep and shaky. At the same time, her mind spinned in theories of what he was thinking.
-I know i'm not in position to ask, and please, i don't wanna push it. -He paused trying to see if she showed any reaction, but her face was blank. -But, can we talk about last night? -His mouth showed a nervous smile. Now Sofia understood all of the uneasy behavior he had earlier. She then pulled him to sit on her bed, crossing one leg under herself and turning her body to look at him.
-You mean the part where I told you why I kissed you that night? -Sofia asked and he nodded. -Well, it's true, I kissed you for all of those reasons you already know. I was drunk, I was feeling down but mainly, because you showed up at a moment where I needed you, even though you didn't know. That was the moment where I realized I could trust you. Any other person would've raised hell on me for my actions, but you didn't. And it was everything. -At this point her heart was pounding on her chest so hard she was sure her blood pressure went to the hills.
-Wow, that's… a lot. -Nurmi blinked fast as if he was trying to do a reality check. -But why did we pretend nothing happened then? I thought you regretted it. -He asked, trying to process all the information and trying to make some sense out of it.
-I never regretted a single moment with you, and that's the thing, I knew I'd kiss you again if I could relive that day, but I didn't know how to deal with the emotions that took over me the next day. -Sofia didn't know how she did it, but it was done, and she felt a heavy weight being lifted off her shoulders. Now she has to face him and, whatever comes next, she is prepared.
Nurmi got closer to her and without saying a word, his hands grabbed her face and he looked straight into her eyes.
-You're a fucking mystery Sofia Karppi, not even 50 years as a detective could make me solve the puzzle that you are, but i'm so glad we bumped into each other. And just so you know, I'd do it all again too if it meant that you'd be by my side. -His lips kissed hers hardly, and at that moment, a thousand butterflies took flight in their stomachs. It was a very intense moment, and they felt like everything was falling into place.
Once the kiss ended, they looked at each other breathless, speechless and above all, happy.
-And to think that I came by yesterday just to tell you about me getting a new partner, to drink wine and sob and now look at us. -Sofia said, making Nurmi laugh loud. He then pushed her on the bed and crawled on top of her, burning her with his eyes.
-Seriously though, promise me you won't get drunk and kiss whoever your next partner is until I come back? -He said whispering, now closer to her face again. He loved being close to her face. Sofia narrowed her eyes at him with a comic expression.
-Fuck you Sakari Nurmi. -She whispered back at him, biting his lip gently and then letting go.
-You already did that, remember? -He said and then gave her a soft kiss that made her insides turn. If it weren't for the doctor's order's, she knew exactly where this would end. -Come on, I'll cook us something, our kids must be starving. -He stood up and gave her a hand to do the same.
At that moment, they both knew that, no matter what, they would go down with each other if they needed to.
-----
I just love these two too much. You can sue me for that!
Bye!

Now Zatna shaves what of her hair still grows, instead opting to wear pale ginger wigs whenever she isn't dawning her leather hood or scarf-cloak. Eyes: Golden yet with a tint of darkness. Her eyes are tired and heavy yet alert and sharp, seeing the world through a veil of pain and morals.  Height: 5'/152.4 cm.  Weight: 112.44 lbs/51 kg.  Build: Ectomorph. Zatna is thin yet obviously well-trained, her strength focused on agility and flexibility.  Scars: Burn scars on her shoulder, neck, and head. Several scars on her… everywhere, really. She essentially looks like a grizzled war-veteran (because that’s what she is). Two small pieces of the outer edge of her ear have also been torn off. Tattoos: A few small, simple, and minimalistic ones that seem silly but are deeply symbolic. Distinguished Traits:
Her relaxed posture.
The slight freckling of her skin.
The bags under her eyes.
Silent footsteps.
A missing finger on her right hand.
Common Accessories:
A scarf in either red, black, or purple that you really cannot tell if it’s a scarf or a cloak. Spoilers: it’s both.
A one-handed sword, sheathe strapped to her back.
Two daggers at her hips and several other forms of sharp weaponry hidden across her body.
A cloth pouch and a leather purse attached to her belt.
Two golden hoops in her right ear.
Personal --- -
Profession: Occasional assassin, bounty hunter, tracker, and monster hunter for hire. Full-time Shadowblade and hunter of oppressors, warmongers, and whoever else breaks her moral standard for a living. Hobbies:
Singing.
Journal-writing.
Grumbling over existence, inequality, and people’s poor lack of morals and ethics.
Researching and observing.
Skill(s): Knife; hand-to-hand combat; shooting with a handgun or revolver; daggers, and one-handed axes and swords combat; singing; a bit of Void, Light, and Arcane magic; outdoors survival; surviving otherwise impossible to survive situations; strategising; acting; winging it; pulling pranks. Languages: Fluent Thalassian, conversational Common and Orcish, and a few words of Zandali and Darnassian. Residence: Zatna has a few hidden, barely used cottages scattered about Azeroth but no real, stable home. There’s one in Azsuna, one in Eversong Woods, one in Feralas, and one in Deadwind Pass. She also considers Keizi and Knoton’s abode a home, as well as Zatna’s parents’ estate outside Silvermoon. Still, she’s most likely to sleep and reside in the crowd of the Uncrowned or the wild. Birthplace: Silvermoon City. Religion: None. Patron Deity: None. Fears: Losing people; drowning; having a mission team mate be captured due out of her lack of skill.
Relationships --- -
Spouse: None. Children: None. Parents:
 Vazolra Mirthheart (mother, alive).
Jathun Mirthheart (father, alive).
Siblings: None of blood, but the one person she considered a brother is double-deceased. His name was Itillan Riverseeker. Other Relatives: The only other relatives Zatna knows of is her mother’s side of the family, who abused and bullied every family member into becoming a follower of the Void, which led to them being exiled and becoming ren’dorei. Zatna refers to any of those relatives as “Crimsons”, short for Crimsonveil. Pets: None that are still in her care. When she lived with Keizi, Knoton, and Mo’hir in Durotar, she had several cats and raptors.
Traits --- -
Extroverted / Introverted / In between /: Zatna is an extroverted person, but, lately, with the change of pace in her life, she has become far less social in any way that isn’t business related.
Disorganised / Organised / In between /: She’s not a neat freak but doesn’t make a mess either.
Close Minded / Open Minded / In between /: So long you don’t try and oppress people or hurt them for no apparent reason in her vicinity, there’s next to nothing that she won’t accept and respect.
Calm / Anxious / In between /: Being anxious has never really been a thing she’s done.
Disagreeable / Agreeable / In between /: She fights for a cause and what’s right, not to get people to agree.
Cautious / Reckless / In between /: She tries, and fails, to be cautious.
Patient / Impatient / In between /: This, somehow, always surprises people.
Outspoken / Reserved / In between /: Zatna used to say literally everything on her mind. Now she’s more reserved with personal things, like emotions and her mental state, but anything else she’ll more than happily yell to the entire world about.
Leader / Follower / In between /: She can’t follow orders worth shit. Not even her own.
Empathetic / Apathetic / In between /: She knows and understands and can relate to feelings, but simply has a very, very difficult time actually feeling them. This counts for her own but also things that are supposed to rub off from other people.
Optimistic / Pessimistic / In between /: It frequently changes whether she’s optimistic or pessimistic, though she has a tendency to lean towards a sense of pessimistic optimism. Like, it will probably be fine, but only moderately, and there’ll be some casualties, and overall Zatna simply expects everything to be mediocre.
Traditional / Modern / In between /: No comment.
Hard-working / Lazy / In between /: She can and will work through entire days without eating and sleeping.
Cultured / Uncultured / In between /: Depends on what culture you mean. Sin’dorei culture? Eh, a little cultured. Meme culture? Very cultured. Manners? Not cultured at all.
Loyal / Disloyal / In between /: Her trust is very, very difficult to get, but once you do she will die for you. And, generally, she lives by a “no man is left behind” mindset on missions, unless it’s absolutely, one hundred percent necessary to leave them behind.
Faithful / Unfaithful / In between /: Only thing she has faith in is her ability to track down and kill people.
Assertive / Timid / In between /: Don’t get fooled by her height, you’ll wish her aura never came near you.
Additional Information --- -
Smoking: Occasionally. Alcohol: Frequently, if she didn’t work so much. Drugs: Possibly, if offered. Triggers: Drowning; being stuck beneath something in the middle of a fire. Face claim: Kim Jihae. Theme song: Life by Neffex. Alignment: Chaotic good / neutral. In-game classes she takes after the most: Subtlety rogue with a splurge of outlaw and simple Arcane mage.
Alt Verses --- -
Brightheart: Not much changes here aside from the fact she, briefly, has a successful love life with Halduron Brightwing. They have three kids and end up getting a divorce after they’ve all migrated from their home.
Modern: A woman in the mid-30s still working towards her college degree. Up until a few years ago, she’s been making her income through professional downhill mountain-biking.
Forsaken: Zatna dies in Northrend and is raised as Forsaken. She’s very nonchalant about it. Everybody else isn’t.
RP Hooks --- -
Academy: Vazolra, Zatna’s mom, is the headmistress of a magic academy in the heart of Silvermoon where Zatna, alongside many, many other people, have graduated.
Bounty hunter: Not exactly feeling like going off to an alternative universe for someone who’s already out of reach to harm anyone else on Azeroth, Zatna spent the entirety of Warlords of Draenor as a bounty hunter, alongside her best friends Knoton and Mo’hir. Zatna still occasionally go after bounties and accept bounty hunter jobs, if they line up with her style of targets.
The Uncrowned: Zatna is a Shadowblade going under the alias Eclipse. She frequently launches campaigns, plots tactics, and gathers information to take down vile people of all kinds. In this line of work, she needs the help of all kinds of people, and preferably a lot of them.
Taverns: Zatna is social butterfly and quite the drinker when she finally lets herself take a break from work.

💧: Are there any places they avoid? If so, why?
Tumblr media
“Ooh. Lands of forbidden knowledge.” Lat adjusts her sleeves. “Mm. Deadwind for the most part. Got some bad vibes and experiences from there. Fecking Birds, you know?” She adds a knowing wink to emphasize that. “Also the north region around Arathi. I’ve pissed off a few nobles....ain’t worth my time.”
“Other than that, I obviously avoid places where politics means they might kill me. Aka Orgrimmar. Although I used to visit at a different time. How? Spoilers.”
