I just wanted to say that your new video is so amazing! your editing skills are so great! it inspired me in trying to do a similar thing. Is there any recommendation you have for beginners who would like to improve their editing skills or resources where to get like textures and stuff? (I hope its ok to send this here, I wanted to send it to your main acct, but I couldn't via anon and am too shy) Also, I am looking forward to your ark/pods video because I am always confused about it.

Hi!! I don't know if you're thinking of fandom edits/gifs or of videos, but this advice is all the same, IMO.

I don't really have any specific recommendations or resource places... I kinda just... google for everything when I need it LOL. I guess one recommendation I have is that I use a tablet for like... everything, not just drawing. It makes selecting layers or files faster, using the lasso tool more accurate, using the brush/eraser for whatever reason easier, like everything. Mine isn't super fancy with its own screen or anything, and still I just like... could not imagine designing or editing anything without it LMAO.

Something thing that really helped me improve in my design is looking at other designers!! I love following blogs like curioos (website), mockupcloud, and dddribbble (website), and really soaking in techniques other people use for text, color, composition, etc. If you see something on your feed and go "WOW! I LOVE the way this looks!" ask yourself what is it you like about it, and take a mental note. Even if it's not all what you're doing, you can still take other types of art and ask yourself "how can I make something like this work for what I'm doing?" Like, pixel art, web design, and even fandom edits/gifs are all very different from video editing, and yet what I've learned from those still heavily impacts how I approach my videos.

I've also caught myself a lot lately asking "does it look good while being tiny?". For some reason, seeing something as a thumbnail (tiny preview images for the original larger version) really helps me decide "This part takes up too much space" or "I need to move this part down more", things I don't catch as well if I'm looking at something in its full size, or even half the size. So I will often zoom out 10-20% on my Photoshop files (depending on the size of the image and the monitor's resolution) to see if I really like the way something looks. For videos specifically, I think this is vital for youtube thumbnails.

So eventually if I get to 10k subs I plan on making a whole video full of specific tips I've learned in-depth with visual examples and such.

Tumblr Inspiration

I’ve followed a number of design focused Tumblr’s and will use them as inspiration during my projects, below are two that stuck out to me and I think will prove very useful in my upcoming work.

Dddribbble - I've found a lot of useful inspiration from this Tumblr account, ranging from branding inspiration to web designs. This account features a lot of creative illustrations, these are great inspiration to me in IXD104 when creating my icons/cityscape illustrations. 

It also features examples of monograms and branding designs, which will be useful for ideas with my current branding project in IXD103. There are many UI/UX designs and app design examples, the layouts of these have inspired me as I am currently creating digital wireframes for my Travel app.

Thedsgnblog - The blog has many helpful resources and design inspiration. It covers logo design, digital design, app design, UI/UX and many more. I've found a lot of great colour themes through the account which has gave me great inspiration. 

They cover an "Identity" category which helps gives me inspiration with regards to monograms and wordmarks, and how they can create an effective product/brand when used effectively. It offers useful tips when designing or creating digital products, such as recommending apps and tools.
