Album Number Five Hundred.

“A Trick of the Tail” is the seventh studio album by Genesis. It was released in February 1976 on Charisma Records and was the first album to feature drummer #philcollins as lead vocalist following the departure of #petergabriel. It was a critical and commercial success in the UK and U.S., reaching No. 3 and No. 31 respectively.

My copy is a gatefold U.S. release on #atcorecords - SD 38-101

Following Gabriel's decision to leave the band, the remaining members wanted to carry on and show they could still write and record successful material. The group wrote and rehearsed new songs during mid-1975, and listened to numerous audition tapes for a replacement frontman. They entered Trident Studios in October with producer David Hentschel to record the album without a definitive idea of who was going to perform lead vocals. Elton John - Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding 

Phil Collins may have worked with Brian Eno, but he's mostly known as the guy everyone likes to mock for his musical choices, even though his career remains an interesting study in contrasts. Genesis' Duke, for instance, feels like an attempt by Mr. Collins to imitate Peter Gabriel's version of the band, had he decided to stay and become more pop. Yes, that might be a bit too pat, yet there's something weird about the entire endeavour, because the entire LP wants to be a continuation of their previous progressive rockism, though you can notice Mr. Collins' heart is into other types of music. Nonetheless, this battle between the two poles causes this to be an interesting listen, which is why one does feel regret they didn't use this tension later on.
