Even as a kid I knew there was something just wrong about A Bad Case of Stripes
It gave me a weird feeling as a kid too, and I think it's a combination of the illustration style and the subject matter.
David Shannon has such a particular, oil painting esque style. Most of his illustrations are very cartoony, like his iconic No David books:
Tumblr media
Like look at that! The features and proportions are exaggerated! Full of bright colors! Reminiscent of something a kid might draw.
But then there's A Bad Case of Stripes. In this book Shannon seems to lean much more into the realm of surrealism, and the result is...
Tumblr media
...uncanny. I mean look at those faces!!! Nothing like the caricature bulbous head of little David. These guys look like they crawled out of a Renaissance painting! Look at the shading!!! It looks like you could reach out and touch those little fuzzy blue pompoms! Which brings me to my next point...
A Bad Case of Stripes is just... kid-friendly body horror. There's no gore in it, but what this girl goes through is something straight out of a fever induced nightmare.
Just like those creepy realistic renders of what Patrick Star or Homer Simpson would look like in real life (remember those?) It's the realism, the 3d look, the impeccable shading that makes Stripes so damn creepy. In a more cartoonish style, Stripes probably would've been a wacky little kids book. But because of how realistic the illustrations are...
Tumblr media
...We wound up with the suppressed birthplace of body horror phobias for generations to come.

Why did they make Joe Griffiths-Brown wear a Wig as Raoul? Did they not like his Natural Hairstyle?
This was partly answered by @andrewlloydwebber the other day. But to chime in, I think the main reason is that most Raouls in West End has traditionally been given a wig whether they "need" it or not. I assume it's done for continuity in look, and in that to give the actor more liberty in how they want to style and cut their hair in their private life.
But it also means some Raouls has worn a wig that was basically identical to their own hair, to the point where it took me weeks and months to realize they had wigged up at all. Only when Antony Hansen made a post about his "new weave" on Twitter and where the mesh hairline was kinda visible in the photo did I realize he wore one:
Tumblr media
Same with Will Barratt:
Tumblr media
This in contrast to basically any other replica production worldwide, where Raouls seldom wig up. They wear their own hair, sometimes with the addition of sideburns. I think the exception might be Germany, where Raoul wigs sometimes occur.
In non-replica productions it's also most common to not wig up, but there's been some exceptions. At the top of my head (pun intended) there's Sydney Harbour, as well as cases where the understudy has covered several roles and his main hair is adopted to a completely different role (Sebastian Lamberth as bald Firmin / wigged up Raoul in POTO Kristianstad, for example).
So yeah, that's likely why Joe Griffiths-Brown wears a wig in West End. Raouls there very often do. I think it has less to do with "liking" his hair. If so, that would indicate they haven't liked the hair of most of their Raouls. I don't think that's the message of fitting them with a wig. Rather, as mentioned above, to give them some liberty in how they wear their hair in their private life. They are free to dye it, cut it, curl it, braid it, spray it, go grey, go bald, because they will anyway don a complete costume when going to work.
(and in the case of Antony Hansen, I wanna say he went from long-haired to almost shaving his hair during his Raoul run, while David Shannon sported cornrows for a while. Probably a nice contrast to their stage looks!)

Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas (2014)
In today's review, I find new meanings to traditional holiday celebrations, inside a car with a T.V. star. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2014 faith-based comedy documentary lecture film, Saving Christmas #KirkCameron #DarrenDoane
The holiday season can be a wondrous time, even if you celebrate religiously or not. The commercial impact can somewhat be seen as a dampener for those who seek out the more wholesome, and spiritual aspects of the season. In 2014, former sitcom star, Kirk Cameron, teamed up with Darren Doane in a car, on a mission to Saving Christmas. T.V. Star, Kirk Cameron, leads the charge in this film! It…
