hey did you know that all of my life i spent searching the words of poets and saints and prophets and kings now at the end all i know that i've learned is that all that i know is i don't know a thing so easy to close off place the blame outside hiding in my room at night so terrified all the things i could've been but i never had the nerve life and love, i don't deserve so alright alright i've had my time close my eyes let the death bells chime bury me in burgundy i just don't care nothing's left i looked everywhere is this how i die was there ever any other way my life could be is this how i die such a slough of feelings inside of me but then why am i screaming why am i shaking oh god, was there something that i missed did i squander my divinity was happiness within me the whole time

i live my life being haunted by “did i squander my divinity? was happiness within me the whole time?” and the implication that every human person is divine and that that divinity resides within the ability to be happy. DAVE MALLOY WHAT THE FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely believe listening to Dave Malloy's work religiously has changed my outlook on life. It's the "I will try to forgive myself for being absent in public and bored before stars" it's the "this song's not over just yet, stars and moons rise and set and rise again" it's the "oh you fool, you fool, it's all within yourself" it's the "my life will get better than this, my life will get worse than this, but right now is just right now" it's the "I am fragile and ephemeral, so love me while I'm here" it's the "what a wonder to me, such a wonder to me" it's seeing god under the keys of the piano, "god on stage in this little jazz club" and the "true god i see when im sitting at home, eating an apple, wondering what mecca must feel like, and suddenly i remember to taste, right there at home and not so many miles away and empty."

"See? It's better when you tell it, mom."
[id: Digital sketch of Lady Usher and Roxie, a redraw of Jessie Willcox Smith's 1908 illustration "My Home is in my Mother's Eyes". Lady Usher sits in a white nightgown and shawl over her shoulders, hand supporting young Roxie, who is hugging her waist. Lady Usher's shawl is pale blue with faint stars on it and she's wearing a star necklace. Roxie's red hair is tied in two braids that end in little black bows. She's in Mary Janes and a pale pink dress, that matches her also pale pink socks, which have a faint flower pattern on them. On the right of the image reads "Little bits of stardust ." /end id]
