That in some cases the sea, instead of spreading out sediment in a uniform sheet, heaps it round submarine rocks and islands, it is hardly possible to doubt, after examining the charts of the West Indies; and that the waves have power to form high and precipitous cliffs, even in land-locked harbours, I have noticed in many parts of South America.

Some promotional images from Cats at the CPAC Musical Theatre.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Production description undercut (x)
Cats is based on T.S.Eliots 1939 poetry Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, the songs in the musical consists of Eliot's verse set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
On September 3, 1939, Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies announced that the country was at war with Germany, a sombre moment for a nation still reeling from the losses of World War I. Despite this, the war still felt remote to those on the home front – that is, until December 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and began advancing through Southeast Asia. Suddenly, the threat of invasion placed Australia directly in the line of fire, as was evidenced by the bombing of Darwin on February 19. Enter Melbourne, where only a quarter of street lamps were lit and even electric trains had reduced lighting. The city's "brown out" period was a response to the danger of air raids, and it had a profound impact on daily life. In this production, amidst this tumultuous time, one unique story stands out – the inhabitants of Melbourne’s Jellicle Cats and the threat of war upon them. This assemblage of cats must decide who will journey to the ‘heavyside layer’ in a process of selection for each nominated cat to be considered to be reborn into a new life. In this newly reimagined production, our "Cats" tell this tale, set against the backdrop of wartime Melbourne in 1942, with a nod to the social changes brought on by the war effort, post-war reconstruction, migration, and the reintegration of returned servicemen into the local economy. The musical features no dialogue, only music, and provides a unique perspective on a pivotal moment in Australian history.

The New York Botanical Garden, located on 250 acres across from the Bronx Zoo, possesses the largest herbarium anywhere outside of Europe. Among its treasures are wildflower specimens gathered on Captain Cook’s 1769 Pacific wanderings, and a shred of moss from Tierra del Fuego, with accompanying notes written in watery black ink and signed by its collector, C. Darwin. Most remarkable, though, is the NYBG’s 40-acre tract of original, old-growth, virgin New York forest, never logged.
Never cut, but mightily changed. Until only recently, it was known as the Hemlock Forest for its shady stands of that graceful conifer, but almost every hemlock here is now dead, slain by a Japanese insect smaller than the period at the end of this sentence, which arrived in New York in the mid-1980s. The oldest and biggest oaks, dating back to when this forest was British, are also crashing down, their vigor sapped by acid rain and heavy metals such as lead from automobile and factory fumes, which have soaked into the soil. It’s unlikely that they’ll come back, because most canopy trees here long ago stopped regenerating. Every resident native species now harbors its own pathogen: some fungus, insect, or disease that seizes the opportunity to ravish trees weakened by chemical onslaught. As if that weren’t enough, as the NYBG forest became an island of greenery surrounded by hundreds of square miles of gray urbanity, it became the primary refuge for Bronx squirrels. With natural predators gone and no hunting permitted, there’s nothing to stop them from devouring every acorn or hickory nut before it can germinate. Which they do.
There is now an eight-decade gap in this old forest’s understory. Instead of new generations of native oaks, maple, ash, birch, sycamore and tulip trees, what’s mainly growing are imported ornamentals that have blown in from the rest of the Bronx. Soil samplings indicate some 20 million ailanthus seeds sprouting here. According to Chuck Peters, curator of the NYBG’s Institute of Economic Botany, exotics such as ailanthus and cork trees, both from China, now account for more than a quarter of this forest.
“Some people want to put the forest back the way it was 200 years ago,” he says. “To do that, I tell them, you’ve got to put the Bronx back the way it was 200 years ago.”

1945 04 P-51D Mustang 'Big, Beautiful Doll ' Col. John Landers 357 FG - Stan Stokes
Col. John D. Landers, the pilot of the Big Beautiful Doll, was born in 1920 in Wilson, Oklahoma. He attended Texas A & M and Arkansas State University before joining the Army Air Corp. In March of 1941 Landers graduated from aviation cadet training and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. With America thrust into WWII following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Landers was assigned to the 49th Fighter Group and set forth to Australia. Flying a Curtis P-40 out of bases in Darwin and Port Moresby, Landers became an ace by downing two Betty bombers and four Mitsubishi Zeros. When his first combat tour ended, Landers returned to the States as a P-38 Lightning instructor. During a second combat tour Landers was assigned to the European Theatre as Commander of the 38th Fighter Squadron of the 55th Fighter Group. On June 25th 1944 Landers downed his first German aircraft, an Fw190. Several days later he would bag three Me110s on a single day. Later in 1944 Landers was made acting Commander of the 357th Fighter Group. Flying a P-51 Mustang for the first time he obtained an aerial victory on November 18th. Landers returned to America for a brief rest following completion of his second combat tour. However, by January of 1945 he was back in action as C.O. of the 78th Fighter Group which flew out of Duxford, England. Landers attained 3 ½ additional confirmed aerial victories and destroyed many additional enemy aircraft on the ground. In fact the 78th Fighter Group destroyed 125 German aircraft on the ground on April 16th 1945, which is a record for one day. After V.E. Day Landers was given command of the 361st Fighter Group which he was preparing to take to the Pacific when the war ended. Officially credited with 14 ½ aerial victories, Landers decorations include the Silver Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross with three OLCs, the Purple Heart, the Croix de Guerre, and the Air Medal with twenty-one OLCs. The ace returned to civilian life after the war where he was active in the pipeline business in the Southwest. He retired in 1975, and passed away in 1989 from complications during surgery. The P-51 Mustang played a major role in the Allied victory in WWII. The P-51 was the first fighter with the range to accompany bombers into Germany, and tangle with the best of the Luftwaffes fighters on an equal basis. Many Mustangs carried unique personalized paint schemes. The Big Beautiful Doll is considered by many to be one of the classics with its checker board cowling, black rudder, and red accents.

◆ Ikemen Villains ◆ William Rex Headcanons Despite Not Knowing a Single Thing About Him
(or just a silly fanfic)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*in case someone happens upon this post in the far future, not much official character information had been revealed about him at the time of writing. I was just having a little fun ^^
He got those rings off his mentor, a nobleman who'd taken him in after the deaths of his parents and taught him how to navigate the seedy underbelly of Victorian England. William was always told to fend for himself first, even under the guise of actually caring, and so he turned a cold shoulder and left his mentor to die at the hands of other nobles who'd grown dissatisfied with him. William returned to the scene later, after enjoying a leisurely stroll, and plucked the rings up while issuing orders to the servants to toss the body into the Thames.
Years later, after learning the full truth about the murder of his mentor, and coming to terms with the reality that the nobleman had been the closest thing to a family he'd ever had (even considering his own parents), William now harbors remorse for his actions (and inaction). Though he outwardly maintains that what happened back then was merely Social Darwinism.
The rings actually have a more complicated history, owing to the fact that his parents were distantly connected to the royal line by blood, and the nobleman (who had been William's mother's childhood friend), had taken these heirloom rings from her vanity after her death. He'd intended to give them to William, the rightful owner, but he couldn't bring himself to part with the only remaining memento of his lost love.
William is the kind of the edgelord who writes all his correspondences and letters in the same red ink that he paints his gorgeous nails with. He files them into sharp points every Sunday after church, which he faithfully attends (and uses as a cover for dispensing instructions to his secret faction of loyalists who'd love to see him on the throne).
His little fangs actually looked a little silly on him when he was a kid, but as he aged into adulthood, they seemed to fit inside his mouth better and produce an overall roguish appearance.
His ostentatious heart-shaped cloak is a gift from the Queen herself, but not one meant good-naturedly. She gave it to him with the meaning of "you are a clown, a jester in this court of fools." It was her way of mocking his birthright, because even knowing that William has more of a legitimate claim to the throne than she does, she believes that William's coronation would be a disaster. William, however, wears the cloak with facetious pride. He's coming for that throne, baby.

This is the only container terminal in the region, which will make it possible to provide services to neighboring countries, Prime Minister Gaston Browne was quoted as saying at the reopening of the facility.
The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation resumed the 90-million-dollar worth project, which began in 2018, with delays exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The port currently has a new cruise berth, cargo and logistics facilities, and other amenities, including offices to house Customs and Excise, as well as the Plant Protection and Immigration Unit, in order to prevent customers from traveling to the capital and returning.
Speaking at the reopening ceremony, Port Authority Executive Director Darwin Telemaque said that it was a “momentous journey” towards completion of the port, adding that it had “all the ingredients for an excellent future.”
The twin islands in the heart of the Caribbean Sea received 125,000 international visitors on cruise ships in 2020 and 300,990 passengers last year, with revenues of more than 300 million dollars.

“So… we’ve been harboring the Keeper of Dreams?!” Troy yelled, his eyes widening in fear and shock.
“Yep,” Paige sighed, rubbing her head, “after what Zion and Adam told me about Desiree, the Keeper of Death, Shiloh and I went to the Stardust Archives… and it’s true. Darwin is the Keeper of Dreams.”
Silence rung over the room for a few moments.
“Well…,” Steven squeaked out, “we’re definitely going to be having nightmares.” “I thought he was claimed by Nightstar… o-or Morningstar,” Silas said nervously.
“Nope,” Paige shook her head, “he was born from Morpheus. The Greek god of dreams.”
“Ohhhh we are so dead,” Roxy said nervously. The Dawn Riders had been harboring Morpheus’ son, of all people. And that was basically a death sentence.
Heather shakily exhaled, “does Morpheus know?” “Poseidon is going to talk to him. Hopefully he won’t be as mad as he should be,” Harry said.
Marley looked around, “where is Darwin?” “In the clubhouse, reading,” Astrid piped up, jabbing her thumb at the clubhouse. Paige could see the outline of Darwin reading a book. He looked relaxed, surprisingly.
Hopefully that was good.

my first art post on tumblr, here are some rottmnt ocs I’ve created!  A lil group of pirate guys, the S.S Mutinee escaped the Hidden City years ago to become pirates in New York Harbor! Their name comes from their uprising against their previous captain, and now they’re all equal members of the team, although Ahab is the most leaderlike.
Some notes: Vespa lost an arm during the fight with their captain, so he has a variety of self made prosthetics (he’s currently using his fav, a cannon he calls Big Bertha). Darwin was the result of oozesquitos laying eggs in water, resulting in the seaweed being mutated. Moby, the koi fish, is alive despite his appearance, he’s simply a yokai spirit of a lucky fish.
hope you enjoy rottmnt fans!

UK Rare Fossils Find Sanctuary in New Nature Reserve
Tumblr media
In a landmark move for conservation, a picturesque corner of the English countryside abundant with geological treasures and rich biodiversity will soon gain the prestigious status of National Nature Reserve. Bradgate Park and Swithland Wood in Leicestershire are set to become the nation's 220th protected area, permanently shielding a remarkable trove of ancient fossils that offer an unparalleled window into the primordial past of our planet.
Ediacaran Marvels: A Missing Link Revealed
At the crux of this 439-hectare natural haven lie some of the world's rarest and most revelatory fossils from the enigmatic Precambrian Period – mysterious life forms over half a billion years old that predate the emergence of complex, multi-celled organisms. Indeed, the celebrated Ediacaran biota fossils preserved in Bradgate's ancient rocks proved pivotal in resolving a paradox that had long vexed Charles Darwin himself. "Bradgate Park is the only National Nature Reserve where you can find fossils of this astonishing age," notes Tony Juniper, Chair of Natural England's governing body. "These fossils were pivotal in confirming Darwin's theory that the ancient seas hosted life eons before complex organisms appeared, finally providing the 'missing link' he suspected must exist."
Uncovering a Prehistoric Past
The soon-to-be-declared reserve's profound geological significance stretches far beyond the famed Ediacaran imprints. The land itself is a palaeontological time capsule, with exposed rock faces revealing the sedimentary layers of bygone eras.  Juniper explains, "Bradgate Park's rich geological history makes it internationally important for scientific research and teaching of Precambrian palaeontology. It is a key site in the future plans for a UNESCO Global Geopark in Charnwood Forest."
A Verdant Tapestry of Life
While its prehistoric wonders understandably grab headlines, the new reserve encompasses a mosaic of diverse habitats teeming with modern-day flora and fauna worthy of equal admiration and protection. From ancient oak woodlands dating back eight centuries to vibrant heathlands and wildflower meadows, the varied landscapes support an array of rare and remarkable species: Majestic oaks over 800 years old, home to deer, endangered spiders like the 'Charnwood spider', and birds like the striking green woodpecker One of the last remaining swaths of Leicestershire's traditional heathland, harboring uncommon flora like the small heath butterfly Medieval deer parks once roamed by herds of fallow deer, now cohabitating with their wild red deer cousins Steeped in layers of natural and human history, the area even holds ties to English royalty – it was the childhood home of the ill-fated Lady Jane Grey and a favored childhood haunt of the world-renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough. As James Dymond of the Bradgate Park Trust remarks, "For Bradgate to be part of His Majesty The King's series of National Nature Reserves is a real honor."
Striking a Balance
Preservation Measure Public Benefit Protecting vital habitats and species Popular trails for hikers around Leicester Aiding recovery of rare biodiversity Opportunities for wildlife watching and learning Securing geological research value Connecting urban dwellers with local nature With its new status, a delicate balance must be struck between unfettered conservation efforts and ensuring the public can experience and appreciate the area's splendor. Tony Juniper believes the reserve "presents a reminder of how partnerships can drive nature recovery at scale while making it accessible for everyone to enjoy."
A Resounding Call for Connection
To commemorate National Nature Reserves Week from May 20-31, over 80 public events will be held across England's protected areas this month – offering the perfect chance for people to immerse themselves in these irreplaceable natural gems. Juniper said, "It's vital that we protect nature sites like this which are accessible to people living in cities. Connecting more people from diverse backgrounds with our most important places for wildlife is key to developing a lasting appreciation for conservation."
A Lasting Environmental Legacy
Bradgate Park's new designation is part of a broader national initiative by King Charles III to create an enduring "green" legacy. Through the King's Series of National Nature Reserves, five new reserves will be announced annually until 2027 with the goal of leaving "a lasting public legacy for people and nature." This crucial first step toward safeguarding an irreplaceable piece of England's natural heritage is being celebrated as a major win for future generations. "National Reserve status will help protect this site going forward," Dymond affirms. "We hope it raises the profile of our geological history and its importance worldwide." With its gnarled ancient oaks joining a national network of over 109,000 protected hectares, this historical haven will become an enduring bastion for biodiversity – and an endless source of wonder, education, and rejuvenation for all who visit.
